  2. A scenic portion of California’s Highway 1 will reopen later this month. In January, a mudslide washed out 150 feet of the highway along the iconic Big Sur Coast. The highway has been closed since then and wasn’t expected to be fully repaired until summer. However, the project has moved faster than expected. Earlier this week, the California Department of Transportation announced that the closed portion of Highway 1 will reopen on April 30, almost two months ahead of schedule. YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK WILL LIMIT VISITORS THIS SUMMER DUE TO COVID-19 According to a tweet, "favorable weather & soil conditions" allowed crews to move faster than expected. TEXAS MAN SETS RECORD, RUNS FROM DISNEYLAND TO DISNEY WORLD FOR TYPE 1 DIABETES AWARENESS "Reopening Highway 1 at Rat Creek just three months after a washout of this magnitude is great news for residents, recreationalists, business owners, and those who move goods through this region," Caltrans Director Toks Omishakin said in a statement. "Caltrans has been focused on the emergency work needed to increase the resiliency of this highway section to extreme weather, and the fixes made will allow for safe travel." (Caltrans District 5 via AP) Caltrans construction crews repair a section of Highway 1, along Big Sur, California, in March. The portion of the road was washed According to the announcement, crews have been working "seven days a week during daylight hours" since March 1 to fill in the washed-out canyon with compacted dirt. The highway is expected to reopen by April 30, nearly two months ahead of schedule. A portion of Highway 1 that was washed away in January is pictured. (Caltrans District 5 via AP) The next step is to "establish the base of a new road" over the next two weeks, the announcement said. Crew members will then pave and stripe the road.
  3. Is the current four-wheeled Ford Bronco a little bland for you? Well, look no further than the reservations page at Maxlider Brothers Customs who will build you the 6x6 Bronco of your dreams. Ford plans to offer thousands of accessories for the Bronco, but an extra set of rear wheels seems to be absent leaving Bronco owners no choice but to take matters into their own hands. For a cool $399,000 you can purchase a 6x6 Ford Bronco that will be available in 2022. This insane build adds an additional rear axle and expands the Bronco's interior cargo space and skips the truck bed found on the Mercedes G-Wagon 6x6. A 6x6 Bronco is the most extreme custom offering we’ve seen for the new Bronco so far and we can’t help but wonder if it will become a reality. Gallery: Custom Bronco Builder Announces 6x6 For Customers Seeking Extra Wheels Custom Bronco Builder Announces 6x6 For Customers Seeking Extra Wheels 3 Photos Maxlider Brothers Customs is based in Illinois where they’ve spent years restoring classic Ford Broncos and Ford F100 trucks. The team has recently added offerings that cover modern Ford products like the Ranger, F-150, and upcoming Ford Bronco. To accommodate Bronco owners looking for various levels of modifications, Maxlider Brothers Customs offers packages that range from a simple wheel and tire setups all the way up to the 6x6 build they announced on Facebook. To account for the additional weight, we’d assume that a performance tune or engine swap will be included in the 6x6 build package, however, details are minimal at this time. All we have now are some sleek renderings and a dream to blast through the desert in a 6-wheeled Ford Bronco. With a limited set of build slots available, today’s the day to reserve your 6x6 Ford Bronco.
  4. White-coloured dust has covered buildings and roads around the island, including in its capital Kingstown. Nemo is urging residents to "be careful on the roads, which have become treacherous as a result of the ash flow". Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves said water supplies to most of the island had been cut off and its airspace closed because of the smoke and thick plumes of volcanic ash moving through the atmosphere. Mr Gonsalves said thousands of residents had been sleeping in emergency shelters since Friday. "It's a huge operation that is facing us," he told NBC News. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external sites. Homes across the island, which has a po[CENSORED]tion of around 110,000, have been covered in white-coloured volcanic dust and rock fragments. It prompted warnings from officials to stay indoors, while emergency groups advised caution for those suffering with respiratory problems. "Be careful all. We are covered in ash and strong sulphur scents pervade the air. We ask that you take the necessary precautions to remain safe and healthy," Nemo said. Map 1px transparent line Meanwhile, on Barbados, Chief Medical Officer Kenneth George advised residents to "stay in your house". "This is to protect yourselves and your family," he said. People on the island of St Lucia, which is around 47 miles north of St Vincent, also shared images of volcanic ash on their vehicles and homes. Other Caribbean countries, including Antigua and Guyana, have offered to send emergency supplies to St Vincent. They also said they would open their borders to those fleeing the fallout from the eruption. The volcano had been dormant since 1979, but in late 2020 it started spewing steam and smoke and making rumbling noises. The first sign that an eruption was imminent came on Thursday evening, when a lava dome became visible on La Soufrière. Just before 09:00 on Friday (13:00 GMT), seismologists from the University of the West Indies confirmed that an "explosive eruption" was under way. Evacuees were taken to cruise ships and safer parts of the island.
  5. News stories about chip shortages for various applications have become so common in the past few months that they now sound like background noise. It's no secret that demand for PCs and other electronics is high, but sales of personal computers have actually beaten all the expectations in the first quarter as they increased by 55% year-over-year, according to the latest data from IDC. Apple seems to be the biggest winner here since its shipments have more than doubled. The industry shipped as many as 83.981 million PCs in Q1 2021, up 55.2% from the same quarter a year ago and a modest 8% decline from Q4 2020, which is a seasonally strong quarter. In fact, most Top 5 PC suppliers demonstrated over 50% year-over-year PC unit sales growth, an indication that they were eating the lunch of smaller players, which is not particularly surprising as they could procure more components and ship more machines. IDC (Image credit: IDC) Lenovo remained the market leader, selling 20.4 million computers and controlling 24.3% of the market. HP came in second with 19.237 million systems shipped and 22.9% market share. Dell landed in third with 12.946 million PCs and a 15.4% share. Apple was in the distant fourth place, shipping 6.692 million Macs and owning 8% of the market. But Apple's sales were up a whopping 111.5% year-over-year, probably one of the biggest YoY jumps that the company has ever seen. Acer was the No. 5 PC maker in Q1 2021 with 5.837 machines sold and 7% of the market. "Unfulfilled demand from the past year has carried forward into the first quarter, and additional demand brought on by the pandemic has also continued to drive volume," said Jitesh Ubrani, research manager for IDC's Mobile Device Trackers. "However, the market continues to struggle with setbacks including component shortages and logistics issues, each of which has contributed to an increase in average selling prices." Demand for PCs began to skyrocket in Q1 2020 as many countries went into lockdown, sending hundreds of millions of employees and students home. All of these people had to buy new PCs for their remote work and learning, yet the supply chain was not ready, so shipments of PCs dropped year-over-year in Q1 2020 to 54.1 million units (from 59 million in Q1 2019), creating a large number of backorders. This differed demand has been affecting the supply chain since then, and shortages are expected to persist for quarters to come. But that decline in Q1 2020 created a low base effect for Q1 2021, which is why we can observe such tangible growth. "There is no question when entering 2021 the backlog for PCs was extensive across business, consumer, and education," said Ryan Reith, program vice president with IDC's Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers. "The ongoing shortages in the semiconductor space only further prolong the ability for vendors to refill inventory and fulfill orders to customers. We believe a fundamental shift has occurred around the PC, which will result in a more positive outlook for years to follow. All three segments — business, education, and consumer — are experiencing demand that we didn't expect to happen regardless of many countries beginning their ‘opening up’ process. Component shortages will likely be a topic of conversation for the majority of 2021, but the more important question should be what PC demand will look like in 2-3 years."
  6. If your Start Menu feels too big or too small, you can easily resize it and make more space to pin apps. To resize the Start Menu, you simply have to position your mouse cursor on its edge and drag your mouse. However, there’s a catch – the Windows Search interface is also affected when you change the size of the Start Menu. In Windows 10 version 20H2 or older, the Windows Search interface respects the size of the Start Menu. You’ll notice the responsive UI of Search when you position your cursor on the top edge of the Start menu, then and drag your mouse up or down. This will change the height of the Start Menu, and Windows Search will also stay that way. In some cases, when you reduce the height of the Start Menu, some Search UI elements might not scale properly, preventing users from viewing all the main functions of the search feature, such as the Bing screenshot search or “Switch to Microsoft Edge” banners. Windows Search 20H2 Windows Search in version 20H2 In the preview builds, Search and Start Menu have become two separate entities in terms of window size too. You can now change the height of the Start Menu without affecting the Search interface. Windows Search UI Windows Search in preview builds That’s a major move and it’s possible that Microsoft will introduce a new way to change the height and the width of the search interface. Since the Windows Search interface can be controlled via server-side updates, we wouldn’t be surprised if they bring this change to older versions of Windows 10. Windows Search and Microsoft Edge integration In addition to the aforementioned change, Microsoft is also working on another feature that will allow Edge to share your browsing data with Windows Search. In the upcoming version of Microsoft Edge, you can use a new sync service to share browser data across the search services on Windows 10, such as the taskbar search. This setting is currently accessible in the Canary builds of Edge under the Settings > Profiles page. When the feature is enabled, Windows Search will get access to your Microsoft Edge browser data, such as your browsing history, frequently visited sites, bookmarked pages, and more. At the moment, Microsoft is testing Edge integration in Windows Search only, but it’s possible that the feature will also come to other service-based services, including the digital assistant Cortana.
  7. A new Outriders update will start rolling out today on PC and PlayStation consoles that will re-enable crossplay between the two. Xbox players will have to wait as developer People Can Fly is "a little bit delayed" deploying the patch. As a result, crossplay between Xbox and other platforms has been disabled. There's no word on when the update will go live on Xbox consoles. The studio said it is "hoping to have this patch ready for Xbox very soon" and will provide updates once there's information to share. Once the Xbox update goes live, People Can Fly said crossplay between consoles and PC will be "fully restored." For now, People Can Fly said the update is over 2GB on PC and roughly 600MB on PlayStation. The update will make a number of changes to the game, including stabilizing online connectivity and addressing a plethora of crashes. It's unclear if this update has any connection to next week's patch, which will nerf the Technomancer and Trickster's bullet-based skills. The upcoming update has become a hot topic in the community, with Outriders players going to Reddit to blame livestreamers and YouTubers for the nerfs. New Outriders Update Patch Notes PC & Consoles: Once platforms have been updated to the same patch version, cross-play across platforms will become viable again. With the release of this patch, Crossplay between PlayStation and PC is now possible. Crossplay between Xbox and PC/PlayStation has been temporarily disabled until the Xbox patch has released. Crossplay between consoles and PC will be fully restored once the Xbox patch has gone live. Overall stability improvements for the matchmaking service. Crash Fixes: Will fix a multiplayer crash that could result in client players having their inventory wiped. Will fix the crash when completing the "A Bad Day" side quest. Will fix the crash that occurs in No Man's Land when your language is set to Spanish (Yes, we know. Video game code is a magical thing). Will fix crash on launch issues. Will include many more "random" crash fixes: We are confident that these fixes will address the majority of crashes reported, as there are only a handful of root causes but the crashes they generate appear in a number of places. Will fix the HUD disappearing in certain cases. Will fix bugs that interfere with players re-spawning in multiplayer Expeditions. Will fix bugs with players getting stuck on geometry (including when using Gravity Leap) or falling out of the world. Will change the default matchmaking setting from "Open" to "Closed": You will still be able to manually change this setting to "Open" through your game settings. This change will prevent players from joining games where the host didn't intend to play in multiplayer. It will also cut down on AFK lobbies. This will also help improve matchmaking times, as the queues will be less likely to be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of constant matchmaking requests generated by "open" games. Many other minor fixes and improvements. PC Specific: Will Fix a performance issue where GPU is not being fully utilized. This should help with stuttering and DX11/12 issues.

"He was anxious and upset," the Manhattan resident recalled of the incident earlier this year when she had to go out to work for the first time in months. "It was extremely traumatic for the both of us, and I could not focus on my job for days after." To help her dog cope, Cueto has invested $340 in professional pet training and counseling — a fraction of the amount many The boxer mix is among millions of animals across the US who are already suffering from separation anxiety or are set to experience its painful effects after enjoying human company 24/7 since the pandemic took hold in March 2020. HAWAIIAN RESORTS ARE HOSTING SHELTER DOGS THAT GUESTS CAN WIN A STAY WITH: 'WAGS TO RICHES' Now that people are getting vaccinated, offices are re-opening and the work-from-home trend is diminishing, the critters are feeling lonely and confused. "We’ve been inundated with inquiries from worried dog guardians," expert animal trainer and counselor Malena DeMartini-Price told The Post. "They’re taking little trips out of the house, and their pets are shredding the carpets, and neighbors are complaining about barking. "All the indicators show something is not well with their dogs." One of her clients, Jane Yates, has spent $4,800 so far to help her 18-month-old mutt, Jasper, adjust to the sad reality that she is physically returning to work in less than two weeks. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP "We’re paying $800 per month — the cost of a large car repair — but it’s worth every cent," said Yates, a lab administrator in Portland, Oregon, who enlisted the virtual services of a DeMartini-Price associate last October. "All dogs have to learn that nobody can be truly present for them 24/7/365 and to live with their emotions and discomfort," she added. The pup, rescued off the streets and believed to be a Chihuahua/pit bull mix, bonded with Yates to such an extent that he once dug holes under a fence to try and follow her out. "I returned from my walk to hear him alternating between barking and howling from a block away," said his 55-year-old human. "If I so much as put on a mask or picked up my keys, he would jump on the door and cry." The solution has been a desensitization program supervised remotely by DeMartini-Price’s employee, Tiffany Lovell, which involves Jasper spending incrementally longer periods of time apart from his owner. For example, Yates began leaving her kitchen for the garage and returning after a few seconds. Then, when Jasper eventually recognized she would always come back, she increased the minutes of absence. Over the winter, she worked in the garage for several hours using a space heater to keep warm.
  10. The flagship Superb was the first Skoda to get the Sportline treatment back in 2015 before the Kodiaq, Karoq, and Enyiaq iV SUVs all went on to receive the visual upgrades. It's now Octavia's turn to spawn its first-ever Sportline trim level, bringing RS-like cosmetic tweaks without the added performance reserved for the high-performance versions. Black design elements separate the Sportline from the lesser trim levels, along with a subtle rear spoiler for the liftback version. Also available as a wagon, the Octavia Sportline rides on 17-inch wheels with a polished black look, but you can upgrade to 18-inch allow as well as a larger 19-inch set exclusive to this version. Sportline badges round off the changes on the outside. Gallery: 2021 Skoda Octavia Sportline 2021 Skoda Octavia Sportline 4 Photos The interior starts off as an Octavia in the Style trim before adding piano black decorative strips along with sports seats featuring built-in headrests. The steering wheel is adorned with the Sportline logo and the front door sills wear the Octavia lettering. As standard, Skoda will sell the new version – which slots between the Style and RS – with a USB-C port in the rearview mirror to make it easier for the driver to attach a dashcam. As you’d expect from an Octavia, the Sportline is available with a multitude of gasoline, diesel, natural gas, mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Depending on powertrain choice, it can be had with front- or all-wheel drive as well as with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. The big news as far as engines are concerned is the introduction of Skoda's 2.0 TSI engine with 190 horsepower (140 kilowatts). It was available towards the end of the previous-gen Octavia's life cycle when it replaced the old 1.8 TSI, but it's only now the fourth-gen model is getting the gasoline mill. It's available exclusively in an AWD and DSG combination. Although not mentioned in the press release, logic tells us the 2.0 TSI variant comes along with an independent rear suspension. At an additional cost, the Octavia Sportline can be ordered with DCC Dynamic Chassis Control bringing no fewer than 15 settings for the dampers, from comfortable to sporty. The central airbag between the front seats will also cost you extra, and so will Collision Avoidance Assist, Turn Assist, and Crew Protect Assist with rollover function. The only member of the Octavia family currently missing is the luxurious Laurin & Klement named after Skoda's founding fathers and available in all previous three generations of the modern Octavia. It's only a matter of time before it will be added as we know for a fact it's coming to India at the very least.
  11. George Floyd died from a lack of oxygen during his arrest, a doctor at the trial of ex-police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis has said. Contradicting the defence, Dr Martin Tobin said fentanyl did not cause Mr Floyd's death. He said even a "healthy person...would have died". Mr Chauvin, 45, was filmed kneeling on Mr Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes during his arrest last May. The ex-officer is on trial for murder and has denied the charges against him. The footage of Mr Chauvin, who is white, with his knee on African-American Mr Floyd's neck sparked global protests against racism. The trial is in its second week and is expected to last for at least one month. The defence is due to begin arguing its case in court next week. What did the experts say about fentanyl? A toxicology report released last June said that Mr Floyd had the painkiller fentanyl and the drug methamphetamine in his system. Since then, the defence has argued that the fentanyl caused Mr Floyd's loss of oxygen. However Dr Tobin, an intensive care doctor, said that Mr Floyd's breathing did not slow down enough for the painkiller to have been a factor in his total loss of oxygen. Meanwhile, forensic toxicologist Daniel Isenschmid, whose laboratory tested Mr Floyd's blood and urine samples following his death, said there was evidence that some of the fentanyl had metabolised, meaning that an overdose was less likely. The man accused of killing George Floyd Watching the Chauvin trial 'was hurtful' 'I stay up at night apologising to George' The defence also questioned Kentucky police surgeon Dr Bill Smock, an expert in forensic emergency medicine. Dr Smock said Mr Floyd displayed "air hunger", a term for when the body becomes desperate for oxygen. While a fentanyl overdose can slow down breathing, he said people who are overdosing are not aware that they are lacking oxygen and often appear sleepy. In contrast, he said Mr Floyd appeared to be alert. On cross-examination, he agreed with the defence that there was "no safe" amount of methamphetamine to be in someone's system, and that an overdose of methamphetamine and fentanyl combined may look different from fentanyl alone. Dr Smock also told the court that while viewing the footage, he heard Mr Floyd complain about being unable to breathe before he was restrained on the ground. What else was the court told? Asked about the positioning of the handcuffs behind Mr Floyd's back, coupled with the downward pressure of Mr Chauvin's weight against him, Dr Tobin - an expert in pulmonary medicine - said that Mr Floyd's ability to expand his chest to breathe was severely impaired. "[George Floyd] is jammed down against the street, so the street is playing a major role in preventing him from expanding his chest. "He's against a hard asphalt street, so the way they're pushing down on his handcuffs combined with the street... it's like the left side is in a vice." George Floyd mural in Minneapolis IMAGE COPYRIGHTREUTERS image captionThe death of George Floyd sparked protests around the world Dr Tobin said the positioning of the handcuffs was also significant. "It's how they're being pushed, where they are being pushed, that totally interfere with central features of how we breathe." Dr Tobin said that the position of Mr Chauvin's knee, pushing down against the left side of Mr Floyd's chest, meant that it was "almost... as if a surgeon had gone in and removed the lung". "[Mr Floyd] has used up his resources and is literally trying to breathe with his fingers and knuckles against the street to try to crank up his chest, to try to get air into his right lung," he added. "You can see he's conscious, you can see slight flickering and then it disappears. One second he's alive, one second he's no longer." 'Healthy person would have died too' Dr Tobin said that Mr Floyd had already shown signs of brain injury about four minutes before Mr Chauvin took his knee off his neck, and that a healthy person who was put through this "would have died" too. About three minutes before Mr Chauvin removed his knee, Dr Tobin said, there was "not an ounce of oxygen left in his body". "The knee remains on the neck for another three minutes and 27 seconds after he takes his last breath," Dr Tobin said. "After the officers have found themselves that there's no pulse, the knee remains on the neck for another two minutes and 44 seconds." Dr Tobin used footage captured during Mr Floyd's arrest to provide his medical opinion on the ninth day of Mr Chauvin's trial. Protest in Washington DC on 30 May 2020 IMAGE COPYRIGHTREUTERS image captionThe anti-racism protests continued through the summer During his cross-examination, defence attorney Eric Nelson suggested that Dr Tobin's assessment was "conditioned upon [Mr Floyd] being a healthy individual". "We understand that Mr Floyd had some heart disease," Mr Nelson said. "That's going to affect blood flow in a person?" Dr Tobin said that if Mr Floyd had been suffering from a coronary condition at the time he would have been "complaining of chest pain and demonstrating a very rapid respiratory rate," adding: "We don't see either." Dr Martin Tobin testifies on the ninth day of the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin IMAGE COPYRIGHTREUTERS image captionDr Tobin said there were no signs that Mr Floyd's death was linked specifically to a heart condition On Wednesday, the police chief of Minneapolis testified that Mr Chauvin had violated the agency's policy on force during Mr Floyd's arrest. Medaria Arradondo said the way Mr Chauvin had restrained Mr Floyd was not in line with training and "certainly not part of our ethics and our values". The defence has argued that Mr Floyd's efforts to resist arrest necessitated the restraint. The main medical examiner, who conducted the county-commissioned autopsy, is expected to give evidence at the trial on Friday.
  12. Hardware detective Tum_Apisak has spotted AMD's Ryzen 9 5900 in a new benchmark. The 12-core processor appears to be a complete monster, but it's a shame that the chip is exclusive to OEMs. Coming out of TSMC's 7nm furnace, the Ryzen 9 5900 is just like any other Ryzen 5000 (Vermeer) processor. Wielding the mighty Zen 3 cores, the Ryzen 9 5900 is essentially the power-optimized version of the Ryzen 9 5900X. The Ryzen 9 5900 retains the same 12-core, 24-thread design with 64MB of L3 cache as its counterpart. Unlike the Ryzen 9 5900X's 105W TDP, the non-X model is restricted to 65W. With a stricter power limit, the Ryzen 9 5900 obviously arrives with lower operating clock speeds. The processor has a 3 GHz base clock, which is 700 MHz lower than the Ryzen 9 5900X. The boost clock, on the other hand, didn't suffer a huge reduction. The Ryzen 9 5900 easily boosts to 4.7 GHz, only 100 MHz lower than the Ryzen 9 5900X. It's normal to wonder how the Ryzen 9 5900 performs in comparison to the Ryzen 9 5900X given the lower TDP. Being an OEM-exclusive processor, it's hard to find benchmarks of the Ryzen 9 5900 until Tum_Apisak managed to unearth one for us. UserBenchmark doesn't have the best street cred, but it's what's available so we'll have to settle for that benchmark for now. Ryzen 9 5900X vs. Ryzen 9 5900 Ryzen 9 5900X vs. Ryzen 9 5900 (Image credit: UserBenchmark) It's important to highlight that the Ryzen 9 5900X's results are based on over 30,000 user submissions, while the Ryzen 9 5900 results is from a single user. For now, approach the results with an open mind. The Ryzen 9 5900X reportedly delivers 5% higher single-threaded performance than the Ryzen 9 5900. As for multi-threaded performance, the Ryzen 9 5900X seemingly outperformed the Ryzen 9 5900 by a margin of 7%. However, the Ryzen 9 5900X didn't win all the rounds of the fight. The Ryzen 9 5900 appears to have a 7% lower memory latency as opposed to the Ryzen 9 5900X. With all things considered, the Ryzen 9 5900 is a very attractive processor, and it's a mystery while AMD won't offer it to the retail market. The Ryzen 9 5900X has a 61.5% higher TDP, and it's less than 10% faster than the Ryzen 9 5900. Of course, we'd have to put the Ryzen 9 5900 through its paces to see whether the performance delta from UserBenchmark is valid. Officially, the Ryzen 9 5900 is only available to OEMs, but that's what AMD also said with its Ryzen 4000 (Renoir) APUs, and we found them all over the place. It's only a matter of time before the Ryzen 9 5900 hits the grey market if it hasn't already.
  13. There are memorable marketing campaigns and there are those that fall flat as is the case with the latest campaign from the website builder and web hosting company Wix. In its new cryptic marketing campaign titled “You Deserve Better”, the company takes direct aim at the hugely po[CENSORED]r content management system (CMS) WordPress. Wix's campaign began with the company sending out noise-canceling headphones from Bose to prominent WordPress users and influencers. The boxes these headphones arrived in featured a QR code that recipients could scan to view a short video in which a man in a brown blazer personified WordPress. We've assembled a list of the best website builders around These are the best web hosting services for your website Also check out our roundup of the best premium WordPress themes In the video itself, the man warns WordPress users in a top secret message that Wix is launching a campaign trashing WordPress but that they shouldn't worry as this is just fake news. The recipients of the headphones were left even more confused by the fact that the box was signed “Yours, WP” which made it appear that the gift was coming from WordPress as opposed to Wix. Following the release of the first video sent to WordPress influencers, Wix has now released an additional six videos that all take aim at common WordPress problems. These videos touch on some of the downsides of using the world's most po[CENSORED]r CMS such as hackers, the update button, conflicting WordPress plugins, constant updates, the White Screen of Death and having to turn to self-help tutorials for support. Unlike the first video though, the rest of the videos feature both a WordPress developer and the man personifying the CMS. The pair appear to be in a therapy session in which the developer is having a hard time dealing with WordPress issues. In one video, the developer even makes a reference to Apple's old PC vs Mac ads and explains that WordPress vs Wix is nothing like it. So far Wix's negative ads have been met with disapproval from both developers and even WordPress' founder Matt Mullenweg who took to his personal blog to respond to the campaign, saying: "I have a lot of empathy for whoever was forced to work on these ads, including the actors, it must have felt bad working on something that’s like Encyclopedia Britannica attacking Wikipedia. WordPress is a global movement of hundreds of thousands of volunteers and community members, coming together to make the web a better place. The code, and everything you put into it, belongs to you, and its open source license ensures that you’re in complete control, now and forever."
  14. Fantasian (iOS) Developer: Mistwalker Publisher: Mistwalker Released: April 2, 2021 MSRP: Part of Apple Arcade ($4.99 a month) If you’ve been paying attention to Fantasian at all over the past few weeks, it’s probably because Mistwalker has been dropping absolutely gorgeous screenshots of the title in the lead-up to its launch. Dubbed a “Diorama Adventure RPG,” it uses more than 150 handmade dioramas to create most of its world. And let me just get this out of the way right now: this game is stunning. These sets and locations are brilliantly designed with Mistwalker employing several model shops to bring the game to life. There is so much detail in each space, and it’s a bit mind-boggling to see how intricate of a world its artists could create on such a small scale. Not everything in Fantasian has been handcrafted and scanned into the game. The overworld map is a traditional 3D map, and all of the characters, NPCs, and monsters that you encounter are 3D models. And while they don’t exactly look like they belong in this diorama world, they don’t really look out of place either. The visual disconnect between the locations and the character designs wilted away quickly as I opened up more of this enchanting place and engaged in its magnificent combat system. While it is a fairly standard turn-based RPG, Fantasian’s combat has two elements that craft an identity of its own. When you engage with monsters, they’re scattered on the diorama battlefield rather than standing in straight lines or groups. This is because every character in the game has attacks that can target either single or multiple enemies depending on where they are positioned. So a basic melee attack will hit just one creature, but if you use a skill or magic, you can target several opponents. Some abilities will ensnare foes if they’re within the attack radius, while others allow you to strike any creature you can line your shot up with. Magic attacks can be curved, so if you have some big oaf right up front with a shield down stopping any shot you send its way, you can bend your spell around them like James McAvoy in Wanted. It’s a pretty genius and engaging system; one starts to shine when you unlock the ability to send monsters to the Dimengeon. Unlike a lot of its modern contemporaries that put enemies directly on the map, Fantasian uses random encounters. But rather than bogging players down with the pitfalls traditionally associated with such encounters, the game gives you the ability to “collect” all of the monsters you randomly encounter on their journey and fight them in what is known as a "Dimengeon Battle". When you first obtain this ability, you can collect up to 30 monsters before you’re forced to fight them. Dimengeon Battles start with a large group of enemies depending on how many you've collected, with each defeated foe getting replaced by more enemies until you've exhausted all the monsters you collected. Not only does this making grinding for experience a snap, as you usually see massive amounts of XP when these battles are over, but as I said above, they are a great showcase for the battle system. When you have large groups of enemies standing against you, it’s easy to line up attacks that strike multiple foes. Dimengeon Battles also dot the battlefield with power-ups, like increase attack strength or steal a turn from the enemy, that can make these battles more methodical. Not every encounter can be collected, though. Boss battles and some special enemies have to be battled right away, and there are some points in the story where the ability will not be available. But it’s there for most of your adventure, and honestly, when I first heard about the mechanic, I was worried it would ruin the flow of the game, that I would just rush through environments and battle all the monsters at once at the end. But it doesn’t really work that way. In fact, it works far better than I ever thought it would, and it’s going to be tough to go back to JRPGs that do old-fashioned random encounters. For as forward-thinking as its battle systems and art direction are, the one aspect of Fantasian that does feel dated is its story. This is a pretty run-of-the-mill tale of a band of adventurers saving the world. You play as Leo, a thief who begins his journey in the machine realm on the run from robots trying to kill him. Upon escaping back to the human realm, he joins up with the mysterious Kina and the two set off to unravel the mysteries of mechteria, a mechanical invasive species that is slowly destroying their world. There are several tropes of the genre at play here, including a luxurious ship you travel on, a coliseum you’re forced to do battle in, stoic heroes who don’t want your help but appreciate you anyway, and a protagonist suffering an attack of explosive amnesia. I could make do with all of that if the cast were better written. Leo isn’t exactly engaging hero material, and overall, the script suffers from an inability to give its characters distinct voices that match their diversified backgrounds. I’d never thought I’d long for Dragon Quest’s terrible faux-Scottish dialog text, but here we are. Despite the tropes and mostly unimaginative dialog, Fantasian is buoyed by strong world-building, interesting backstories, and a genuine sense that your adventure is building up to something incredible. It took me about 18 hours to complete the story, and part one ends with a few developments that I really want to see play out when part two releases later this year. I’m also looking forward to the promised open-ended second half as Fantasian’s first half is a mostly linear ordeal. For the record, I split my time with Fantasian between my iPad and my MacBook Air and used all three control options available. While the visuals were a bit better on my MacBook with less jaggy character models, I actually didn't care for using a standard controller with the game. The movement between the different areas of each diorama is a bit off, enough that touch controls/mouse controls were ultimately the superior option. No matter what device I was playing on, I made sure to have my headphones plugged in as Nobuo Uematsu's score is quite good, blending elements from his time with the Final Fantasy series with music that sounds as though it was inspired by John Williams. Which makes sense, given that mechteria straight up sounds like a Tie Fighter. I've played a few of the RPGs available on Apple Arcade and I don't think a single one has come close to matching Fantasian's vision and execution. This is a wonderful game with an outstanding battle system that is brought to life with what could be the best art direction of 2021. ------------------------------------------- System Requirments -------------------------------------------- Memory: 2 GB Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 File Size: 3 GB OS: Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1 ----------------------------------------

  18. New York state’s finalized budget for the fiscal year of 2022 says junior big game hunting will be expanded to pre-teens as young as 12-years-old. In a sub-section titled "Expand Hunting and Crossbow Licensing," the state’s Executive Budget Briefing Book claims: "The Budget includes expanding the existing crossbow season and increasing the pool of possible big game hunters to 12- and 13-year olds to encourage and expand outdoor recreation." The expansion of big game hunting in New York will reportedly generate revenue for the state from licensing fees. Previously, junior hunting with firearms was permissible for youth hunters who were between the ages of 14 and 15, according to guidelines listed on the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. (iStock) Starting in June 2021, junior hunters between 12 and 13 will be allowed to hunt big game such as bears and deer with shotguns, rifles, muzzleloaders and crossbows in eligible areas so long as they have a licensed parent or legal guardian who is at least 21-years-old with them – just like their bowhunting counterparts. TEEN KANSAS HUNTER'S 42-POINT BUCK CONFIRMED AS WORLD RECORD This expanded youth hunting pilot program is set to expire on Dec. 31, 2023, according to the New York State Legislature. Each county legislature or board of supervisors will vote on the authorization of the new youth hunting age minimum. Junior hunters between the ages of 12 and 15 are required to have a hunting license, which costs $5, according the DEC. For juniors who want to hunt with a bow, they will need to have a bowhunting privilege, which costs $4. A separate $5 trapping license is required for applicable junior hunters. Junior hunters between 12 and 13 will be allowed to hunt big game such as bears and deer with shotguns, rifles, muzzleloaders and crossbows in eligible areas with adult supervision. (iStock) Besides big game, junior hunters can hunt fowl during open hunting seasons or special days, including turkey, Turkey, pheasant, ducks, mergansers, brant, gallinules, coot and Canada geese. Daily bag limits apply for all hunted species. When out in the field, junior hunters and their mentors must wear fluorescent orange or pink gear that is visible from all directions. This includes a "shirt, jacket, or vest with at least 250 square inches of solid or patterned orange or pink (the pattern must be at least 50% orange or pink) OR a hat with at least 50% fluorescent orange or pink," according to the DEC’s Junior Big Game Hunting guidelines.
  19. With the continuous rise of SUVs, big sedans have largely fallen out of favor. That said, there will always be a segment of the market with a soft spot for the ol' saloon. Mercedes recently launched the new S-Class, BMW will be doing the same with the 7 Series in 2022, while Audi is currently working on a facelift for the A8. It goes to show the Big German Three is determined to keep the fullsize luxury sedan segment alive. This isn't just any A8 facelift, but the stretched version, as denoted by the imposingly long rear doors. The prototype in question might be even more special than that judging by the small piece of disguise on the base of the C-pillar. There's nothing in that area on the current model, leading us to believe Audi could be hiding the Horch badge reserved for a posh version of its flagship. Gallery: 2022 Audi A8 L Horch spy photos 2022 Audi A8 L Horch spy photo 15 Photos While the Four Rings haven't confirmed the return of the "Horch" name, officials from Ingolstadt have revealed plans for an "especially luxurious and prestigious derivative." A precursor to the Audi we know today, Horch was one of the four brands that merged to become Auto Union AG in 1932. The subsequent Auto Union GmbH automaker was formed in 1949 and went on to merge with NSU in 1969 to form Audi NSU Auto Union AG. In 1985, the company changed its name to Audi AG. A potential Horch-badged A8 would allow Audi to take on the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class without stepping on the Bentley Flying Spur's toes. It's a known fact the current-generation A8 will be the last production Audi with the majestic W12 engine, and it would be a natural fit to mark its retirement with an ultra-luxe A8. The prototype caught by our spies gives us a good understanding of what to expect from the A8 facelift in general. The headlights and taillights have a different look and the front grille has also been modified. We're expecting the Horch model to ride on a unique set of wheels and possibly have a bespoke grille as well, but Audi isn't likely to make any substantial changes over the normal A8. The same holds true for the Maybach S-Class as it only has a few design tweaks compared to the Benz model. One big difference between the two is that while the Maybach S-Class has a further stretched wheelbase, the Audi A8 Horch could have the same distance between the axles as the A8 L. Most of the changes over the normal sedan will take place inside the cabin where the list of equipment will be longer than the already numerous goodies offered for the "plain" A8. The wraps should come off later this year and it will be interesting to see whether the Horch derivative (if it's actually coming) will be a limited-run special edition or a permanent member of the family as it is the case with the Maybach S-Class.
  20. Brazil has recorded more than 4,000 Covid-related deaths in 24 hours for the first time, as a more contagious variant fuels a surge in cases. Hospitals are overcrowded, with people dying as they wait for treatment in some cities, and the health system is on the brink of collapse in many areas. The country's total death toll is now almost 337,000, second only to the US. But President Jair Bolsonaro continues to oppose any lockdown measures to curb the outbreak. He argues that the damage to the economy would be worse than the effects of the virus itself, and has tried to reverse some of the restrictions imposed by local authorities in the courts. Covid vaccines: How fast is worldwide progress? What is the Brazil variant and do vaccines work against it? Political crisis and Covid surge rock Brazil Speaking to supporters outside the presidential residence on Tuesday, he criticised quarantine measures and suggested without evidence that they were linked to obesity and depression. He did not comment on the 4,195 deaths recorded in the previous 24 hours. To date, Brazil has recorded more than 13 million cases of coronavirus, according to the health ministry. Some 66,570 people died with Covid-19 in March, more than double the previous monthly record. "Brazil now... is a threat to the entire effort of the international community to control the pandemic," Dr Miguel Nicolelis, who has been closely tracking cases in the country, told the BBC. "If Brazil is not under control, then the planet is not going to be safe, because we are brewing new variants every week... and they are going to cross borders," he said. What is the situation in Brazil? In most states, patients with Covid-19 are occupying more than 90% of intensive care unit beds, according to the health institute Fiocruz (in Portuguese). Several states have reported short supplies of oxygen and sedatives. But despite the critical situation, some cities and states are already easing measures limiting the movement of people. Image shows the countries with the most recorded deaths Presentational white space "The fact is the anti-lockdown narrative of President Jair Bolsonaro has won," Miguel Lago, executive director of Brazil's Institute for Health Policy Studies, which advises public health officials, told the Associated Press. "Mayors and governors are politically prohibited from beefing up social distancing policies because they know supporters of the president, including business leaders, will sabotage them," he said. The far-right president - who has played down the virus, raised doubts about vaccines and defended unproven drugs as treatment - has seen his po[CENSORED]rity plummet amid heavy criticism of his handling of the crisis. He has shifted his tone on immunisations recently, pledging to make 2021 the year of vaccinations. But the country has struggled with the rollout of its programme. media captionBrazil's city on the Amazon river buckles under Covid wave Critics say his government was slow in negotiating supplies. Only around 8% of the po[CENSORED]tion has been given at least one dose, according to the Our World in Data tracker. Epidemiologist Ethel Maciel said Brazil was in a "dreadful situation", telling AFP news agency: "At the rate we're vaccinating... the only way to slow the extremely fast spread of the virus is an effective lockdown for at least 20 days." What is the Brazil variant? Fiocruz says it has detected 92 variants of coronavirus in the country, including the P.1, or Brazil variant, which has become a cause for concern because it is thought to be much more contagious. It is thought to have emerged in Amazonas state in November 2020, spreading quickly in the state capital Manaus, where it accounted for 73% of cases by January 2021, according to figures analysed by researchers in Brazil. Image shows a graph charting deaths in Brazil Presentational white space Experts fear the proliferation of the Brazil variant will mean increasing cases for several months. Dr Nicolelis, who until recently was the co-ordinator of the pandemic response team in north-eastern Brazil, told the BBC that the country's response amounted to a "complete calamity". "It's the largest human tragedy in Brazilian history," he said. "We may get to 500,000 deaths by 1 July, that's the latest estimate," he said. "But the University of Washington released an estimate on Friday suggesting that if the rate of transmission goes up by about 10%, we could get to 600,000 deaths." The Brazil variant has also been linked to a spike in infections and deaths in a number of South American countries.
  21. When Raspberry Pi co-founder Eben Upton announced via Twitter that Raspberry Pi had an informal RP2040 sample program, many makers pitched their ideas for the chip that powers the Raspberry Pi Pico. One of those makers, arturo182, has already started work on an RP2040 based Raspberry Pi Zero W form factor board, but for its next project it has tweeted the design process of a one-inch square RP2040 board that packs plenty of features into a tiny package. See more Arturo182 has designed the one-inch square RP2040 Stamp, and they have documented the entire process via an extensive Twitter thread. The idea behind the board is to pack all of the functionality of the Raspberry Pi Pico into a package that can be soldered into a project. There are no fiddly surface mount components to worry about, just all of the pins you need and castellations for eas Arturo182 has fabricated a small number of test boards, and they have managed to pack in extra features. As well as the full Raspberry Pi Pico GPIO, we see a large 16MB flash, a reset button, LiPo battery charging circuit, and of course a Neopixel RGB LED. The GPIO is broken out around the board's perimeter, and we see that artuto182 has considered the pin numbering scheme, favoring a logical progression counter-clockwise around the board with pin numbers printed at each corner. You will notice that there is no USB interface but fear not, as there are GPIO pins for both USB and SWD debugging. The RP2040 Stamp project is still a work in progress, but you can learn more via the Solder Party Twitter account.
