  17. 3DCenter has published a GPU market pricing analysis which updates German pricing trends up to July 18th. The news isn't the best; it seems that the pricing decline is levelling off, with a minimal 3% average price drop for Nvidia's RTX 30-series. AMD's Radeon RX 6000 series pricing, however, has bounced slightly up an equivalent 3%. Despite the massive reduction in pricing compared to previous May highs, which saw NVIDIA's RTX 30-series selling on average at three times their MSRP, prices are still inflated across the market, with Nvidia's latest-gen graphics cards still commanding 50% higher street price than their launch MSRP. AMD buyers have a slightly worse situation on their hands - over on team red, pricing is 56% higher than the MSRP. See more For official resellers and the second-hand market alike, it's all a matter of attempting to maintain margins. German resellers have to balance their prices, for cards already in stock and bought at increased prices from distributors who themselves have increased margins due to the unprecedented supply/demand ratio for graphics cards ever since launch of both Nvidia and AMD's offerings. It's a tricky business; even if retailers can now acquire new GPUs at prices close to MSRP, they still have to offset the higher price they paid to distributors on previously ordered graphics cards. This leads to price averaging between new, lower-priced stock and older, higher-priced stock: resellers increase their margins on cheaper GPUs they've recently acquired so as to be able to reduce pricing for existing supply. This means that any pricing reduction at a distributor level will take a while to propagate - which brings us to the current price stagnation. The second-hand market, however, seems to source its stock mostly from miners who are attempting to flee crashing cryptocurrency prices and Ethereum's protocol updates - or from scalpers. None of these have any incentive to reduce their pricing other than lack of sales; and in the current downtrend market, they'll use reseller prices as the baseline for their asking price. As such, and all things considered, the pricing downtrend stagnation likely signals a longer term return to normalcy.
  18. We’ve seen some big improvements in the common web browser this year, with Firefox and Safari seeing big redesigns, and the Opera browser is available now on Google’s Chromebooks. In the run up to students returning to campus soon, it’s looking more important than ever for web browsers to do more than just display web pages that meet a certain standard - as they now have to help with communication, work and even streaming. With the R5 update now available, we spoke to Opera about plans for the near future, including how it is preparing for the launch of Windows 11. We pick the best VPNs Our guide to the best web browsers The best Windows 10 deals Opera and Chromebooks, together With Chromebooks having been in student’s hands for some years now, our first question to Opera was unsurprisingly, why only now? “We always believed in providing people with the ability to choose a different browser than the system default. We’ve noticed the growing importance and po[CENSORED]rity of Chromebooks during the past year and a half and decided to act on it,” said Stefan Stjernelund, product manager Opera for Android and Arjan van Leeuwen, Product Engineering Lead, Opera Desktop. “It’s a hard balance with a web browser that does more than display the internet within a modern user interface, so we wanted to know what the team were specifically proud of, as we’ve passed its 26th anniversary this year of being available to users.” “We treat our browser as a whole, but are of course proud of the many features that were previously unavailable in a browser on ChromeOS. We’ve added unlimited, free browser VPN, native access to messengers, Instagram and Twitter as well as the built-in crypto wallet. But looking at the bigger picture, we are very proud to continue providing superior browsers that don’t come pre-installed on people’s devices. This means people who use Opera have taken a moment to consider their options and chosen our browser vs. the original default - that’s what we’re particularly proud of.” Opera browser Of course with Windows 11 on the horizon, we asked Opera if having its web browser on the Store was something that it was looking at before the launch, and what its thoughts were on the upgrade so far. “We are exploring our options but our goal will be to bring Opera to the Microsoft Store as soon as possible. So far, we’ve seen a bit more user-friendliness in the new Windows 11 UI and, of course, any such changes that make our users’ lives easier on Windows are welcome,” Stjernelund and van Leeuwen note. “In terms of the Microsoft Store, we're very happy to see Microsoft is opening up the store to more products and developers, and we think this might be an opportunity to distribute Opera to users who are used to the app store model of downloads.” New Windows 11 build showing search bar in start menu With the R5 update now out for users, accessibility is a topic that’s being seen, quite rightly, as a high priority by many companies now. Opera agreed in this perspective, that the user experience has to take top priority when working on future versions of the web browser. “Improving the user experience is always our top priority at Opera: that’s why we placed built-in messengers as well as Twitter, Instagram and a music player directly in the sidebar. In the case of R5, it has certainly been important to make the new features easy to reach and use. In case of easier videoconferencing with the video call pop out, the user needn’t worry about accessing it, it is there and will be automatically activated when he or she switches to a different tab: the video call will remain on top. In the case of pinboards, they are easily accessible directly from the address bar (the pin symbol).” Opera GX on Chromebooks? With Opera on Chromebooks now an alternative option for users, especially for students as the next academic year is on the horizon, we wanted to see if the gaming version of Opera, GX, could also be coming to Google’s laptops in the future. “Let’s see. We just launched the mobile version of Opera GX, so it’s now available on all major platforms other than Chromebook.”
  19. Qnap has quietly introduced its six-bay TVS-675 NAS powered by an eight-core Chinese x86 CPU designed by Zhaoxin, a joint venture between Via Technologies and the Shanghai Municipal Government. The NAS for small businesses (SMBs) is one of the first (if not the first) commercial devices set to be available in the U.S. and Europe, with the KaiXian KX-U6580 processor developed primarily for the Chinese market. Zhaoxin was established in 2013 to build x86 processors in China for the local market and cut reliance on processors designed by AMD and Intel, but retain compatibility with the vast library of x86 software. The initial generations of Zhaoxin's products weren't successful because of utterly low performance, and the latest KaiXian KX-6000-series is also not a performance champion in general-purpose tasks (according to our review). But it looks like Qnap found the eight-core 2.50 GHz KaiXian KX-U6580 (with Zhaoxin C-960 graphics) good enough for its entry-level NAS. Usually, Qnap's entry-level network area storage devices use Arm-based SoCs or Intel's Celeron SoCs powered by the company’s low-power architecture. NAS manage files, run light applications, or encode videos, so these inexpensive SoCs are good enough for their workloads. Zhaoxin's KaiXian KX-6000 can certainly run light apps, but as our review revealed, its media encoding performance is very low by today's standards, possibly because it lacks certain hardware encoders applicable to our test scenarios under Windows, whereas its general-purpose architecture is not exactly suited for such tasks. Keeping in mind that Qnap's TVS-675 NAS is aimed primarily at SMBs that hardly need it for media encoding, this drawback of the KaiXian KX-6000 probably won't affect users of this NAS. Furthermore, Qnap says that the SoC does support H.264/H.265 transcoding with its OS. Speaking of the Qnap TVS-675, this NAS promises to provide SMBs high capacity, high performance, expandability, and rather fast network connectivity. The NAS has six hot-swappable 3.5-inch bays for high-capacity SATA HDDs, two SO-DIMM slots for DDR4 memory modules (the system ships with 8GB, but you can install up to 64GB), two M.2-2280 slots for SSDs supporting a PCIe 3.0 x1 or SATA interface, and two PCIe 3.0 x4 slots for SSDs or network cards. The unit also has two 2.5 GbE ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A connectors, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, and one HDMI 2.0 output. Qnap equipped the TVS-675 with three fans to cool down the PC-oriented SoC, six HDDs, two SSDs, and expansion cards. The company claims that the fans produce 23 dB of noise (though it does not disclose how it measured this level). The Qnap TVS-675 ships with a choice of either QTS or the enterprise-grade ZFS QuTS operating system. QTS supports all the capabilities expected from an entry-level NAS, including, Qsync cross-platform file sharing (for Apple, Windows, IBM AIX, and Linux machines), Qtier caching technology that automatically moves frequently-used file/data to SSDs, snapshots, RAID modes, virtual JBOD, FTP server, HTTP access, and so on. The NAS also supports QNAP-certified first-party and third-party apps. Qnap hasn't disclosed pricing yet, though this is a business-oriented machine with rich features and will be priced accordingly.
  20. Lanayru Desert also has quite a number of Goddess Cubes. To help you get them all, we've compiled their locations below for your reference. If you're curious about other Goddess Cube locations, read our comprehensive Goddess Cube roundup. For more guides, be sure to check out our Zelda: Skyward Sword guide roundup. Otherwise, read our Zelda: Skyward Sword HD review. There is a goddess cube in the southwest sector of the desert, and reaching it requires you to cross a vast expanse of sinksand. You can't normally cover that much ground, so use the enemies' shells nearby as a resting platform to regain some stamina before making the final sprint When you are near the Temple of Time in the Lanayru Desert, there is a minecart near the north end of the entrance wall. Activate the time shift stone nearby and push the cart into the timeshift radius. Jump in and start charging your sword. As you pass the cube, simply unleash your strike towards the cube. Once that's done, simply head to Beedle's island to find the chest. After striking this Goddess Cube, you'll once again have to wait a while until the next available one in the Sky region. If you're finding them in order, the next Goddess Cube you'll encounter is in the Faron Woods region. However, if you've already got what it takes to get the next Goddess Cube in the region, then keep reading. That's all the Goddess Cubes you can find for now in the Lanayru Desert region. If you're finding them in order, you'll encounter the next one in the Faron Woods region. However, if you've already got what it takes to get the next Goddess Cube in the region, then keep reading.
