  10. Koenigsegg re-engineers a 2017 Agera RS at the request of a customer Buyers who order a Koenigsegg are encouraged to personalize their car by working directly with the company to select unique paint colors and trim materials. One customer took the customization process to the next level by commissioning the company's little-known Aftermarket division to re-engineer a 2017 Agera RS. Twenty-five units of the record-breaking Agera RS were available, and production ended in 2018, so it's too late to buy one new. Instead, an owner approached the Swedish firm with a simple request: He wanted to add air vents similar to the One:1's to his car's hood. From there, the project escalated into a relatively long list of upgrades. Koenigsegg explained that after adding the pair of vents, it redesigned the carbon fiber hood and fitted additional winglets on either side of the front bumper. It then turned its attention to the back of the car, where it added an air scoop that's also inspired by the One:1 and an updated adjustable wing controlled by the in-car software. Black paint on the logos, on the exhaust outlet, and even on the visible bolts add a finishing touch to the design. Inside, the anonymous customer requested a digital instrument cluster named SmartCluster in Koenigsegg-speak. Borrowed from the Regera, it takes the form of a big, driver-configurable screen that neatly replaces the three digital gauges and the small clusters of warning lights fitted to the Agera RS when it was new. Koenigsegg initially estimated that implementing the customer's request for additional vents would take a month, but it ended up spending longer than half a year making the aforementioned changes to the Agera RS. It stopped short of revealing how much it charged the owner to re-engineer a car that cost more than $2.5 million when it was new. 11. 12 Ways to Fix Your Sleep Schedule 1. Get right with the light One of the best ways to fix your sleep schedule is to plan your exposure to light. When you’re exposed to light, your brain stops producing melatonin, the sleep hormone. This makes you feel awake and alert. Darkness tells your brain to make more melatonin, so you feel drowsy. In the morning, exposing yourself to light can help you wake up. Try opening the curtains, taking a walk, or relaxing on the porch. At night, prime yourself for sleep by turning off or dimming bright lights. You should also avoid glowing electronic screens from computers, smartphones, or television, as they can stimulate your brain for several hours. 2. Practice relaxation Making time for relaxation might help you sleep better. When you’re stressed or anxious, your body produces more cortisol, the stress hormone. The higher the cortisol, the more awake you feel. Creating a relaxing bedtime ritual may reduce stress and its negative effects on sleep. Focus on calming activities, such as: yoga stretching meditation deep breathing journaling drinking caffeine-free tea 3. Skip naps If your sleep schedule is out of whack, avoid naps during the day. Napping can make it difficult to go back to sleep at night. Long naps might also cause grogginess, which is the result of waking up from deep sleep. If you must nap, aim for less than 30 minutes. It’s also best to nap before 3 p.m. so your nighttime sleep isn’t disrupted. 4. Get daily exercise One way to reset your internal clock is getregular exercise. Most of your tissues — including skeletal muscle — are linked to your biological clock. So, when you work out, muscle responds by aligning your circadian rhythm. Exercise also helps you sleep better by promoting melatonin production. Thirty minutes of moderate aerobic exercise may improve your sleep quality that same night. However, you’ll get the best results if you exercise regularly. Aim for 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity at least five times a week. Keep in mind that evening exercise can overstimulate your body. If you want to exercise at night, do it at least one to two hours before bedtime. 5. Avoid noise A quiet sleeping environment is a must for a good night’s rest. Your brain continues to process sounds, even as you snooze. Loud, distracting noises can make it difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep. To remove loud noises, keep your television out of the bedroom and turn it off before bedtime. Turn off your cell phone or use the “silent” setting. If you live in a noisy neighborhood, white noise can help you get quality sleep. White noise is a soothing, steady sound that masks environmental noise. You can create white noise by using a:fan air conditioner humidifier air purifier white noise machine You can also wear ear plugs to block outside sounds. 6. Keep it cool Just before bedtime, your body temperature drops to prepare for sleep. A cool bedroom temperature — between 60 and 67°F (15 to 19°C) — will help you feel comfortable and doze off. One 2012 studyTrusted Source from the National Institutes of Health found that the temperature of the room where you sleep is one of the most important factors in achieving quality sleep. Anything below 54°F (12°C) or higher than 75°F (24°C) might disrupt your slumber, so be sure to adjust your thermostat. You can also use an air conditioner or fan during warmer weather, or a space heater during cold weather. These offer the extra benefit of creating white noise. 7. Be comfortable A comfortable bed is the best sleeping environment for a good night’s rest. Old mattresses and pillows can cause aches and pains, making it difficult to get quality sleep. Generally, experts suggest replacing your mattresses every 10 years and pillows every two years. You should also get a new mattress or pillow if you wake up feeling stiff, or if you feel more comfortable sleeping on a bed away from home. The firmness of your mattresses and pillows is up to you. But if your mattress is saggy and your pillows are lumpy, it’s time for a replacement. 8. Eat early Your circadian rhythm also responds to your eating habits. A late dinner can delay sleep, so eat your last meal two to three hours before bed. This will give your body enough time to digest the meal. Eating dinner around the same time each day will also get your body used to a routine. It matters what you eat, too. Heavy, high-fat meals might disrupt sleep because they take a while to digest. If you’re hungry, eat a light snack. The best foods for sleep include a combination of carbs and protein, such as wheat toast and almond butter. Avoid caffeinated drinks like coffee, tea, or energy drinks. As a stimulant, caffeine takes several hours to wear off, so have your last cup before mid-afternoon. It’s also best to skip alcohol before bed. A nightcap might make you drowsy, but alcohol actually disrupts your circadian rhythm, making it difficult to sleep well. 9. Keep it regular If you want to fix your sleep schedule, it helps to make one first. Choose a bedtime and wake-up time. Stick to these times every day, even on weekends or days off. Try to avoid staying up or sleeping in for more than one to two hours. By following a regular schedule, your internal clock can develop a new routine. Over time, you’ll be able to fall asleep and wake up with ease. 10. Try fasting When you eat and digest food, your internal clock knows that you’re awake. That’s because metabolism and circadian rhythm are closely linked. On the other hand, fasting puts your body on “standby” so it can repair itself. Fasting is also a normal part of sleep. Try skipping food just before bedtime. Since fasting naturally happens during sleep, it may help you doze off. Plus, your body continues to burn calories during sleep. If you fast before bed, you’re more likely to feel hungry in the morning. This might motivate you to rise early, then return to a normal sleep schedule over the next few days. But remember, going to bed on an empty stomach can keep you awake. Fasting may be useful if you aren’t already hungry. 11. Consider melatonin As mentioned earlier, melatonin is a hormone that regulates your sleep cycle. Melatonin is normally made by the pineal gland in the brain, but it’s also available as a supplement. It can promote relaxation, so people with jet lag or insomnia often use it as a sleep aid. At the proper dose, melatonin is generally considered safe. Always follow the instructions. Possible side effects include: drowsiness headache nausea dizziness If you’re taking other medications or have other health conditions, check with your doctor before using melatonin. 12. Talk with your doctor It’s normal to have sleep problems every now and then. Usually, changing behaviors or habits can restore your routine. But if sleep troubles persist, visit your doctor. You might have an undiagnosed sleep disorder. If so, a sleep specialist can guide you through proper treatment.

  12. Sen. Josh Hawley will object to Electoral College results on Jan. 6 Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri said Wednesday he will object on Jan. 6 to President-elect Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory. His objection guarantees a last stand for President Trump, who unsuccessfully argued in lawsuits that fraud handed narrow wins to Biden in swing states. “Following both the 2004 and 2016 elections, Democrats in Congress objected during the certification of electoral votes in order to raise concerns about election integrity. They were praised by Democratic leadership and the media when they did,” Hawley said in a statement. “And they were entitled to do so. But now those of us concerned about the integrity of this election are entitled to do the same.” Hawley added: “I cannot vote to certify the electoral college results on January 6 without raising the fact that some states, particularly Pennsylvania, failed to follow their own state election laws. And I cannot vote to certify without pointing out the unprecedented effort of mega corporations, including Facebook and Twitter, to interfere in this election, in support of Joe Biden. At the very least, Congress should investigate allegations of voter fraud and adopt measures to secure the integrity of our elections.” Some House Republicans already said they would object to the results, but they needed a senator’s objection to trigger actual floor votes on whether to accept the outcome. After the challenge is made, the House and Senate vote independently on whether to accept the Electoral College results, which went 306-232 for Biden. Because Democrats will hold the House, the objection will likely be defeated. Both chambers must accept a challenge. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has pleaded with senators not to object, saying it would force Republicans to oppose Trump. McConnell told colleagues this month it would be a “terrible vote” for Republicans. Sen.-elect Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), who takes office Jan. 3, previously said he was considering challenging the results. Senate Majority Whip John Thune (R-SD) said, however, that an Electoral College challenge would fail even in the Republican-held Senate. “In the Senate, it would… go down like a shot dog,” Thune recently told reporters. But Republicans who break with Trump risk his wrath. Trump will remain a powerful force within the party and may run again in 2024. After Thune’s remark, Trump tweeted, “RINO John Thune, ‘Mitch’s boy’, should just let it play out. South Dakota doesn’t like weakness. He will be primaried in 2022, political career over!!!” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) brushed off Hawley’s statement during a press conference on Wednesday. “I have no doubt that on next Wednesday a week from today, Joe Biden will be confirmed by the acceptance of the vote of the Electoral College as the 46th president of the United States,” Pelosi said.

  15. Was 2020 actually the year of Microsoft Teams, not Zoom? Teams is here to stay Business turned to video conferencing software as a means to stay connected while working from home during the pandemic and as we prepare for the coming year, this trend will likely continue now that Zoom has become a household name. However, while Zoom emerged as the preferred video conferencing platform for consumers due to its ease of use and po[CENSORED]rity, Microsoft has made tremendous strides in getting organizations to adopt its own collaboration solution, Teams. Back in March for instance, Microsoft Teams saw its number of daily active users (DAU) increase by 12m over a period of just seven days to reach 44m. By October though, this number grew to 115m as the software giant continued to add new features to its collaboration software. We've assembled a list of the best video conferencing software available These are the best online collaboration tools on the market Also check out our roundup of the best business webcams Engagement also increased as users began turning on video in Teams meetings two times more than they had before the pandemic began. New features galore As 2020 progressed, Microsoft continually updated Teams with new features and capabilities to grow the software's user base while making video conferencing more accessible and engaging. One of the biggest changes the company made was introducing Together Mode to allow multiple users to share the same virtual space while on a video call. Instead of seeing participants in a grid, this new feature allowed everyone to be together at the same time in a conference room, auditorium or even a coffee shop. More recently Microsoft even added new winter wonderland scenes ahead of the holidays. Another interesting feature to come to Teams this year was the introduction of Coordinated Meetings. Organizations with one or more Microsoft Teams Rooms devices as well as a Surface Hub in their meeting room can now use Coordinated Meetings to sync all of these devices together for additional screen real estate during video calls. Microsoft Teams Panels were also introduced so that employees in an office could see whether or not a meeting space was reserved for an upcoming video call. Using these panels, workers can view meeting details, reserve a space, view upcoming reservations and even book another room using the “Nearby Rooms” feature. Hopefully Microsoft continues to update Teams at the same pace next year as the service is quickly becoming a one-stop shop for both working remotely and in an office setting.

  16. Intel Alder Lake PCIe 5.0 Configuration Reportedly Detailed In Coreboot Paving the way for PCIe 5.0 Alder Lake won't just be the first to bring an x86 hybrid architecture to desktops; the processors have also been pegged to leverage the high-velocity PCIe 5.0 interface. Coreboot (via Komachi_Ensaka), an open-source substitute for UEFI, seems to contain valuable information on the potential PCIe configuration that we could see on Alder Lake. Early rumors claimed that the 12th Generation Alder Lake processors would support both the PCIe 5.0 and PCIe 4.0 standard, and Tim Wawrzynczak's assessment of the code seems to confirm that. However, the code specifically references Alder Lake-P (ADL-P), so it's uncertain if the same setup will translate over to the Alder Lake-S lineup. We still have no idea what Alder Lake-P will be, but some think it could be Intel's Atom P-series or a mobile chip. In any event, a previous coreboot patch revealed that Alder Lake-P could max out at 14 cores, six Golden Cove cores, and eight Gracemont cores. Alder Lake-P appears to provide a flexible PCIe layout. The processor reportedly offers one PCIe 5.0 x8 lane or two PCIe 4.0 x4 lanes. It would appear that neither interface supports bifurcation, meaning you can't split up the PCIe 5.0 lane or get the PCIe 4.0 lanes to operate at x8. Nonetheless, both are backward compatible with previous-gen devices. A single PCIe 5.0 x8 lane might sound lackluster at first, but it actually provides plenty of bandwidth. PCIe 5.0 x8 is essentially equivalent to PCIe 4.0 x16; therefore, the interface is good for up to 32 GBps of bandwidth, which is more than any consumer PCIe-based device can consume. Only AMD's Ryzen 3000 and Ryzen 5000 mainstream processors have embraced the PCIe 4.0 standard at this point. Intel's imminent Rocket Lake should change that panorama. There are quite a few mainstream PCIe 4.0 products, including graphics cards and M.2 SSDs, on the market right now. Tests have shown that even the fastest graphics cards have yet to saturate a PCIe 3.0 x16 interface, much less PCIe 4.0. M.2 SSDs, on the other hand, have been able to exploit the extra bandwidth that PCIe 4.0 brings to the table. We expect the PCIe 5.0 situation to play out the same.
