  1. Google Chrome update wants to make sure your passwords are more secure than ever Chrome 88 brings easier password management The latest edition of Google Chrome has been released, featuring a number of useful security upgrades aimed at keeping users safe online Chrome 88 browser comes with a new password manager feature that allows users to check, identify, and fix weak passwords in one place. Users can have greater control over their saved details across multiple platforms and sites thanks to a new shortcut to identify weak passwords and quickly edit them. Check out our list of the best password management software around Here's our list of the best security keys available We've built a list of the best password generators right now To check your passwords, users just need to click on the key icon that appears under your profile or you can manually type chrome://settings/passwords in your address bar. The Google Chrome password manager already saves users' credentials for multiple platforms and prompts if a password is weak. However the new update will allow users to quickly check, identify, and fix weak passwords directly from the Chrome Settings menu, allowing users to sport multiple weak passwords in one place. "Weak passwords expose you to security risks and should be avoided. In Chrome 88, you can now complete a simple check to identify any weak passwords and take action easily," Google said in a blog post. The new password protection features come on the back of other security tweaks Chrome received late last year which included the ability to log in to websites using the credentials saved in your Google account without the need to sync those pieces of information through Chrome. Google said password breaches remain a critical concern online, and that its Chrome’s Safety Check service is being used 14 million times every week. "As a result of Safety Check and other improvements launched in 2020, we’ve seen a 37% reduction in compromised credentials stored in Chrome," the company said. The new features with Chrome 88 will be rolled out over the coming weeks, arriving first on desktop and iOS versions, and the Android app receiving the feature very soon.
  2. Gigabyte Drowns RTX 3080 Gaming GPU Under Beefy Waterblock Plug in and ready to go! The RTX 3080 is a wonderful GPU to begin with in its 'stock' Nvidia Founder's Edition variant, but slap a waterblock on it and you've got something truly wonderful. But not everyone is comfortable with the procedure -- not always because of the danger, but also warranty concerns. With that in mind, Gigabyte is releasing the RTX 3080 Gaming Waterforce, as spotted by VideoCardz. The GPU hasn't been listed on Gigabyte's website yet. This GPU comes in addition to the earlier announced Aorus RTX 3080 Xtreme Waterforce, which has a bigger PCB with elaborate VRM circuitry and a block with leak detection built-in. This new Gaming Waterforce RTX 3080 card is a little more modest, featuring what appears to be a 'reference' PCB design that doesn't stretch as far beyond the expansion slot and uses a little less acrylic in the block itself. The block uses the industry-standard G1/4" threads for fittings and appears to have a typical nickel-plated copper block as cold plate. The RTX 3080 GPU packs a mighty 8704 CUDA cores, which in Nvidia's spec are clocked at up to 1710 MHz. But Gigabyte's card being watercooled, the company is upping the ante to 1800 MHz maximum boost clock, and there's likely more performance on tap for those willing to manually overclock the RTX 3080 Gaming Waterforce.Wired to the GPU is 10 GB of GDDR6X memory that runs at an effective clock of 19,000 MHz. No word on pricing or availability yet, but expect it to be difficult to obtain and expensive if you can.

  4. Two factory workers are talking. The woman says, "I can make the boss give me the day off." The man replies, "And how would you do that?" The woman says, "Just wait and see." She then hangs upside-down from the ceiling. The boss comes in and says, "What are you doing?" The woman replies, "I'm a light bulb." The boss then says, "You've been working so much that you've gone crazy. I think you need to take the day off." The man starts to follow her and the boss says, "Where are you going?" The man says, "I'm going home, too. I can't work in the dark."

  6. Europeans Get This Rad, Sporty Ford Ranger MS-RT While it's related to our Ford Ranger mid-size pickup truck, the version Europeans get nevertheless is different. And to put a finer point on this fact comes the new Ford Ranger MS-RT, a sporty-looking version based on the Wildtrak trim. It's no Ranger Raptor—the Wildtrak sits just below that bona fide sport truck in the Euro lineup—but the MS-RT brings some rally-inspired sportiness that gives this well-equipped pickup a bit of an attitude. The lower fascia receives sporty-looking inserts with integrated fog lamps that adds aggression to the front view, while a honeycomb-pattern grille is installed in place of the staid three-bar arrangement in the normal Wildtrak. The 20-inch OZ Racing wheels do a lot of the lifting for the overall coolness of this appearance package, too, but the fresh fender flares and side skirts are pretty sweet, too. The MS-RT is available in Frozen White, Sea Gray, or Agate Black—options that may be too muted. Why not a bold color for a bold truck? Inside, it's mostly stock Ford, with orange contrast stitching on the leather seats, but there are some MS-RT badges and so forth to remind you that you spent a little more to give your Ranger a pinch of attitude. Power comes from the Ranger's twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBlue diesel engine, which pumps out 210 horsepower and a tarmac-churning 367 lb-ft of torque. The "MS-RT" portion of the truck's name comes from the third-party vehicle-design company that has a strong—and official—relationship with Ford's European commercial vehicle division. That means this Ranger MS-RT will be sold through Ford dealers, with a normal warranty and so forth, starting this summer. It joins Ford's other MS-RT offerings, including the Transit and Transit Connect. Pricing has not been announced.
  7. How to Be a Good Husband for a Happy Marriage As the excitement of wedding and honeymoon fades away, and you adjust to the wind and grind of real life, you realise that you have a partner to share in your joys and sorrows. Slowly, you become so used to each other that romance your romance starts dwindling. The vows that are made during the wedding ceremonies are not always followed through by people, but if you are the type of man who wants to really be the perfect husband to the woman you cherish, it is not too late to rekindle the spark and make your woman feel that you love her. Tips to Become a Good Husband Being a good husband is not something that comes naturally to most men. It often means putting yourself second and your wife first, which is something a lot of people take a little getting used to. Here are some tips to help you become a good husband to your wife. 1. Be Her Best Friend A married couple is much more than just man and wife; they are best friends. You are partners in life, so it is best to get into the habit of going to the other first when something important happens in your life. Just the way you would pick up your phone to tell your friend all about the exciting event that happened, your first instinct should be to tell your wife because she is your closest and dearest friend. In the same way, if she comes to you with something, you should be able to share in her feelings about it and help her if she needs it. 2. Be Protective To show your wife that you love her, be there for her. Be protective but never abuse her. Some men ignore if someone else insults their wife, but we know you are not the same. You love your wife and it’s time you show her that. If someone insults your wife, protect her. You need to show that you support your wife and don’t tolerate others disrespecting her. Never tolerate if someone insults or says mean jokes at your wife. Let people know that you are always at your wife’s side, come what may. 3. Look After Yourself Physically Most men don’t care about their physical appearance once they are married. They stop putting any kind of effort into their appearance after they become too comfortable with each other. This can sometimes be what kills romance in a marriage. Make an effort to look good for your wife. She will appreciate it because she knows you are going through the effort for her. 4. Respect Her Beliefs If you are both from the same religious background, it will be easy to share in her religious faith, but if you are from different backgrounds, there can always be respect for what she believes in. You should never make your wife feel silly for what she believes in, even if you don’t believe in the same. Let your wife know that you respect her beliefs. 5. Show Love to Her Men aren’t the most sensitive bunch, and while it can be challenging for some to open up and show their love, it is a worthwhile endeavour. Most women love romance and like it when their husbands shower their love on them, so remember to be romantic with your wife once in a while. Show your love to her by giving her random kisses throughout the day or hugging her and telling her that you love her. These little acts will brighten her day.
  8. Inauguration Day: Watch poet laureate Amanda Gorman's stirring reading "There is always a light, if only we're brave enough to see it. If only we're brave enough to be it." "History has its eyes on us." Amanda Gorman, US youth poet laureate, read her poem The Hill We Climb during Wednesday's inaugural ceremonies, evoking powerful messages of hope and unity as President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris were sworn in. The Hill We Climb reads, in part: "We've seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it, would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy. And this effort very nearly succeeded. But while democracy can be periodically delayed, It can never be permanently defeated. In this truth, in this faith, we trust. For while we have our eyes on the future, history has its eyes on us." Only a few poets have performed at previous US inaugurations. Former US presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and John F. Kennedy are the only presidents who had poems read at their swearing-in ceremonies. The Los Angeles-based Gorman, 22, was the first to be named national youth poet laureate. She's also the youngest inaugural poet in US history. She's an award-winning writer and cum laude graduate of Harvard University, who's written for The New York Times and has two upcoming books. Gorman also celebrated diversity in her poem: "We, the successors of a country and a time where a skinny Black girl descended from slaves and raised by a single mother can dream of becoming president, only to be reciting for one." When writing The Hill We Climb, Gorman says she reviewed speeches by US President Abraham Lincoln, abolitionist Frederick Douglass and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., but also was inspired by poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou. Gorman was inspired as well by the Tony Award-winning hip-hop musical Hamilton, a modern retelling of US founding father Alexander Hamilton's journey created by composer, playwright, performer and producer Lin-Manuel Miranda.

  10. The Corvette Debuted 68 Years Ago Today On January 17, 1953, the Chevrolet Corvette prototype was unveiled at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City at Motorama. But the car that we recognize today as synonymous with (relatively) accessible sportiness wasn’t as loved when it first appeared. (Welcome to Today in History, the series where we dive into important historical events that have had a significant impact on the automotive or racing world. If you have something you’d like to see that falls on an upcoming weekend, let me know at eblackstock [at] jalopnik [dot] com.) Harley Earl, head designer over at GM at the time, was convinced that a two-seater sports car was the way to go, and introducing a good one could make an impression in what was then a European-dominated market. People were curious, so Chevy had to make sure it filled its expectations. From History: The car featured an all-fiberglass body, a white exterior and red interior, a relatively unremarkable 150-horsepower engine and a starting price tag of around $3,500 (not including taxes or an optional AM radio and heater). In an effort to give the Corvette an air of exclusivity, GM initially marketed the car to invitation-only VIP customers. This plan met with less-than-desirable results, as only a portion of the 300 Corvettes built that first year were sold. GM dropped the VIP policy the following year; however, Corvette sales continued to disappoint. In 1954, GM built around 3,600 of the 10,000 Corvettes it had planned, with almost a third of those cars remaining unsold by the start of 1955. To make matters worse, customers at the time just weren’t impressed with the Corvette. The fiberglass body suffered from poor quality. Doors could open while the car was being driven. Water leaked all over the damn place. GM did its damndest to make sure newly produced cars didn’t feature those same issues, but it’s hard to correct a poor first impression. That said, a Po[CENSORED]r Mechanics survey released in late 1954 revealed that half of the Corvette owner who also owned a foreign sports car said the Corvette was superior to its international competition. Another 19 percent said their Corvette was, at the very least, on the same level as foreign competition. Apparently, GM was onto something. And then Ford launched the Thunderbird, a rival to the Corvette. If it hadn’t been for a serious competitor attempting to occupy the same market space, we might have seen the Corvette taken off the lots, left to become nothing more than a footnote in automotive history. But with Ford waiting in the wings, GM had another stab at the Corvette. I have to say that the investment paid off. The 500,000th Corvette was built in 1977, with the one millionth coming in 1992. The Corvette has become a staple of sporty Americana—definitely worthy of the foibles at the start of its life.

  11. What makes a good friend? Having good friends makes you happy, and being a good friend to others makes them happy, too. Think about your friendships - are you being a good friend? Are your friends being a good friend to you? Good friends make you feel good Good friends say and do things that make you feel good, giving compliments and congratulations and being happy for you. Good friends support each other If you’re feeling down, a good friend will support you. If you need help, a good friend will try to help you out. Good friends don’t always have everything in common Everyone is different, and has different hobbies and interests. Even if you’re not into the exact same things, a good friend will encourage you rather than making you feel bad for liking a different band, activity, TV show or animal! A good friend understands that sometimes you do your own thing, and enjoys doing the things you have in common together. Good friends listen A good friend allows you to talk and doesn’t interrupt you. They’re interested in what you have to say. Good friends are trustworthy If you tell a good friend something private, they won’t share it. You can trust a good friend not to be judgmental. Good friends handle conflict respectfully and respect boundaries Sometimes you and your friend might disagree on something. Sometimes you might have said or done something that upset your friend. A good friend will tell you if you’ve done something to hurt them. If you tell a good friend they’ve hurt you, they’ll be sorry and won’t do it again. Good friendships go both ways It’s not a good friendship if one of you is doing all the talking and the other is doing all the listening, all the time. Good friends make each other feel good, rather than one friend receiving all the compliments and the other giving them all the time. In a good friendship, you’re making each other feel great! Having a group of friends Don’t limit yourself by having just one “best friend”. Your friendship is something special which you can share with everyone who needs a friend! Sometimes friends drift apart or fall out. That’s a part of life. Having more than one friend means it’s more likely there will be someone who can help you when you need it. See our guide to making new friends to find new people in your life to share friendship with. Friends not followers In the digital world you can feel under pressure to have a lot of friends and followers. Remember that you only need a small circle of friends to be happy, and it’s a good idea to keep your most precious (and private) thoughts and moments for those that really care about you. Help! I have a bad friend! Sometimes you might realise that someone you considered a friend hasn’t been a good friend to you. Our friendships and frenemies page has advice for what you can do in this situation.
  12. Phil Spector, famed music producer and murderer, dead at 81 Phil Spector, the eccentric and revolutionary music producer who transformed rock music with his “Wall of Sound” method and who later was convicted of murder, has died. He was 81. California state prison officials said he died Saturday of natural causes at a hospital. Spector was convicted of murdering actress Lana Clarkson in 2003 at his castle-like mansion on the edge of Los Angeles. After a trial in 2009, he was sentenced to 19 years to life. While most sources give Spector’s birth date as 1940, it was listed as 1939 in court documents following his arrest. His lawyer subsequently confirmed that date to The Associated Press. Clarkson, star of “Barbarian Queen” and other B-movies, was found shot to death in the foyer of Spector’s mansion in the hills overlooking Alhambra, a modest suburban town on the edge of Los Angeles. Until the actress’ death, which Spector maintained was an “accidental suicide,” few residents even knew the mansion belonged to the reclusive producer, who spent his remaining years in a prison hospital east of Stockton. Decades before, Spector had been hailed as a visionary for channeling Wagnerian ambition into the three-minute song, creating the “Wall of Sound” that merged spirited vocal harmonies with lavish orchestral arrangements to produce such pop monuments as “Da Doo Ron Ron,” “Be My Baby” and “He’s a Rebel.” He was the rare self-conscious artist in rock’s early years and cultivated an image of mystery and power with his dark shades and impassive expression. Tom Wolfe declared him the “first tycoon of teen.” Bruce Springsteen and Brian Wilson openly replicated his grandiose recording techniques and wide-eyed romanticism, and John Lennon called him “the greatest record producer ever.” The secret to his sound: an overdubbed onslaught of instruments, vocals and sound effects that changed the way pop records were recorded. He called the result, “Little symphonies for the kids.” By his mid-20s his “little symphonies” had resulted in nearly two dozen hit singles and made him a millionaire. “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” the operatic Righteous Brothers ballad which topped the charts in 1965, has been tabulated as the song most played on radio and television — counting the many cover versions — in the 20th century. But thanks in part to the arrival of the Beatles, his chart success would soon fade. When “River Deep-Mountain High,” an aptly-named 1966 release that featured Tina Turner, failed to catch on, Spector shut down his record label and withdrew from the business for three years. He would go on to produce the Beatles and Lennon among others, but he was now serving the artists, instead of the other way around. In 1969, Spector was called in to salvage the Beatles’ “Let It Be” album, a troubled “back to basics” production marked by dissension within the band. Although Lennon praised Spector’s work, bandmate Paul McCartney was enraged, especially when Spector added strings and a choir to McCartney’s “The Long and Winding Road.” Years later, McCartney would oversee a remixed “Let it Be,” removing Spector’s contributions. A documentary of the making of Lennon’s 1971 “Imagine” album showed the ex-Beatle clearly in charge, prodding Spector over a backing vocal, a line none of Spector’s early artists would have dared cross. Spector worked on George Harrison’s acclaimed post-Beatles triple album, “All Things Must Pass,” co-produced Lennon’s “Imagine,” and the less successful “Some Time in New York City,” which included Spector’s picture over a caption that read, “To Know Him is to Love Him.” Spector also had a memorable film role, a cameo as a drug dealer in “Easy Rider.” The producer himself was played by Al Pacino in a 2013 HBO movie. “A genius irredeemably conflicted, he was the ultimate example of the Art always being better than the Artist, having made some of the greatest records in history based on the salvation of love while remaining incapable of giving or receiving love his whole life," Steven Van Zandt of Springsteen's E Street Band said Sunday on Twitter. The volume, and violence, of Spector’s music reflected a dark side he could barely contain even at his peak. He was imperious, temperamental and dangerous, remembered bitterly by Darlene Love, Ronnie Spector and others who worked with him. Years of stories of his waving guns at recording artists in the studio and threatening women would come back to haunt him after Clarkson’s death. According to witnesses she had agreed, somewhat reluctantly, to accompany him home from the Sunset Strip’s House of Blues in West Hollywood, where she worked Shortly after their arrival in Alhambra in the pre-dawn hours of Feb. 3, 2003, a chauffeur reported Spector came out of the house holding a gun, blood on his hands, and told him, “I think I killed somebody.” He would later tell friends Clarkson had shot herself. The case was fraught with mystery, and it took authorities a year to file charges. In the meantime, Spector remained free on $1 million bail. When he was finally indicted for murder, he lashed out at authorities, angrily telling reporters: “The actions of the Hitler-like DA and his storm trooper henchmen are reprehensible, unconscionable and despicable.” As a defendant, his eccentricity took center stage. He would arrive in court for pretrial hearings in theatrical outfits, usually featuring high-heeled boots, frock coats and wildly styled wigs. He arrived at one hearing in a chauffeur-driven stretch Hummer. Once the 2007 trial began, however, he toned down his attire. It ended in a 10-2 deadlock leaning toward conviction. His defense had argued that the actress, despondent about her fading career, shot herself through the mouth. A retrial got underway in October 2008. “Lana Clarkson was a warm, compassionate, kind, loving woman who would be 58 years old now. Her energy, brightness and love of life have sustained her family since her murder 18 years ago in 2003," Clarkson's mother, Donna Clarkson, said in a statement Sunday. Harvey Phillip Spector, in his mid-60s when he was charged with murder, had been born on Dec. 26, 1939, in New York City’s borough of the Bronx. Bernard Spector, his father, was an ironworker. His mother, Bertha, was a seamstress. In 1947, Spector’s father killed himself because of family indebtedness, an event that would shape his son’s life in many ways. Four years later, Spector’s mother moved the family to Los Angeles, where Phil attended Fairfax High School, located in a largely Jewish neighborhood on the edge of Hollywood. For decades the school has been a source of future musical talent. At Fairfax, Spector performed in talent shows and formed a group called the Teddy Bears with friends. He was reserved and insecure, but his musical abilities were obvious. He had perfect pitch and easily learned to play several instruments. He was just 17 when his group recorded its first hit single, a romantic ballad written and produced by Spector that would become a pop classic: “To Know Him is to Love Him,” was inspired by the inscription on his father’s tombstone. A short, skinny kid with big dreams and growing demons, Spector went on to attend the University of California, Los Angeles for a year before dropping out to return to New York. He briefly considered becoming a French interpreter at the United Nations before falling in with the musicians at New York’s celebrated Brill Building. The Broadway edifice was then at the heart of po[CENSORED]r music’s Tin Pan Alley, where writers, composers, singers and musicians turned out hit songs. He began working with star composers Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who had met at Fairfax High a few years before Spector arrived. Ultimately, he found his niche in producing. During this period he also co-wrote the hit song, “Spanish Harlem,” with Ben E. King, and played lead guitar on the Drifters’ “On Broadway.” “I had come back to New York from California where there were all these green lawns and trees, and there was just this poverty and decay in Harlem,” he would recall later. “The song was an expression of hope and faith in the young people of Harlem ... that there would be better times ahead.” For a time he had his own production company, Philles Records, with partner Lester Silles, where he developed his signature sound. He assembled such respected studio musicians as arranger Jack Nitzsche, guitarist Tommy Tedesco, pianist Leon Russell and drummer Hal Blaine, and gave early breaks to Glen Campbell, Sonny Bono and Bono’s future wife, Cher. In the early 1960s, he had hit after hit and one notable flop: the album “A Christmas Gift to You,” released, tragically, on Nov. 22, 1963, the day President Kennedy was assassinated, the worst possible time for such a joyous record. “A Christmas Gift,” featuring the Ronettes singing “Frosty the Snowman” and Love’s version of “White Christmas,” is now considered a classic and a perennial radio favorite during the holiday season. Spector’s domestic life, along with his career, eventually came apart. After his first marriage, to Annette Merar, broke up, Ronettes leader singer Ronnie Bennett became his girlfriend and muse. He married her in 1968 and they adopted three children. But she divorced him after six years, claiming in a memoir that he held her prisoner in their mansion, where she said he kept a gold coffin in the basement and told her he would kill her and put her in it if she ever tried to leave him.

  15. Resident Evil Multiplayer Game Teased, Closed Beta Coming You can sign up for a chance to test an upcoming Resident Evil multiplayer game. Capcom has invited fans to sign up for a closed beta test for an upcoming Resident Evil multiplayer game, a title that apparently has not been announced yet. Or perhaps this is all related to Resident Evil Village and Capcom is intentionally keeping that a secret for now. Coinciding with the announcement of the Resident Evil Showcase, Capcom has launched a website that mentions a closed beta test for a game that will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Resident Evil. The beta test will run on PS4 and Xbox One, though people with a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S who are accepted into the beta can play via backwards compatibility. More details about the beta test will be shared during the Resident Evil showcase on January 21. Nowhere on the page is the name Resident Evil Village mentioned, though the landing page includes "Village" as a directory. Whatever the case, the beta test itself will be held on January 28 and 29, and you have until January 25 at 6:59 AM PST / 9:59 AM EST to register. Capcom said people who are in the Resident Evil Ambassadors program will have a better chance at getting selected. Silver members will have a 2X chance of getting in, while Gold members have a 5X chance, and Platinum users have a 10X chance. The website mentions that this new Resident Evil game supports 4-6 players, but that's all the information that's available at this stage. Capcom has tried Resident Evil multiplayer before, most recently with Resident Evil Resistance. Resident Evil Village, meanwhile, is slated for release in 2021 on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. The first-ever gameplay footage and a new trailer will be released during the Resident Evil Showcase on January 21.
  16. Windows 10’s new look hinted at in fresh screenshots Rounded corners for the win… Windows 10 is supposedly getting a major interface revamp later this year, and more clues as to what might be coming in the pipeline have just been spotted – namely rounded corners for windows. As you may recall, this is a possibility that has popped up before, with rumors flying for some time that Microsoft is planning to drop the sharp edges on windows or other interface elements like menus or panels, and replace them with smooth, rounded corners. Windows 10 taskbar to get a brand new feature How to speed up Windows 10 How to uninstall a Windows 10 update More recently, we’ve seen rounding of the likes of the Settings panel in mock-ups published by Microsoft, and it’s thought that this more modern look is going to be part of the whole major UI revamp known as project ‘Sun Valley’. Windows Latest reports that in recent preview builds of Windows 10, Microsoft is now testing a new ‘rounded corners prototype’ flag, which delivers a subtle rounding effect to the main elements of the desktop interface. That includes the Start menu, Action Center and Settings app. 21H2 update So, given the weight of evidence, it would seem that this is Microsoft’s intention, although obviously it remains to be seen whether rounded corners will be adopted for Windows 10 when Sun Valley theoretically comes to fruition in the second update of 2021 (Windows 10 21H2). As ever with leaks, we’ll just have to wait to find out, and indeed Microsoft could well change its mind in the meantime. However, because Sun Valley is aiming to usher in a more modern look, the new smoothly shaped corners would certainly fit with that brief, and therefore the move seems a solid possibility. We recently heard that Windows 10 21H2 could be finished – meaning it hits the RTM build – as soon as June, although Microsoft could still hold onto it until much later in the year, likely giving the feature update extensive testing (as it’s a big one). Usually, the second Windows 10 update of the year arrives in October or November, but it could of course be earlier than this.
