  1. Alienware AW2521H 360Hz Monitor Review: Motion Blur Be Gone Addictive response Is the best gaming monitor about resolution, color saturation, contrast or speed? If you picked speed, then a 360 Hz monitor is for you. The 360 Hz refresh rate is the current pinnacle of smooth response and the lowest available input lag. LCD technology has spent its entire life working to overcome one major flaw, motion blur. Because each frame remains on the screen while the next one is drawn, it has been termed “sample and hold.” Self-illuminant panels, like plasma and OLED, redraw the image hundreds of times per refresh cycle, which means there is no blur, even at frame rates as low as 60 fps. LCD has two ways to combat this, higher refresh rates and backlight strobing. Better known as ULMB (ultra low motion blur), backlight strobing inserts black frames in order to mimic the action of OLED and plasma. It is effective but it reduces brightness and, in most cases, prevents the use of FreeSync or G-Sync. The better option is to raise the refresh rate and that’s exactly what the Alienware AW2521H does. Running at 360 Hz, it not only eliminates motion blur, it delivers super low input lag. Fast flat panels used to rely on TN technology for their speed, but that is no more. Now, we have fast IPS, which brings back good viewing angles and better color saturation. The AW2521H uses one of these, along with a white LED edge-array backlight. HDR10 signals are supported with an effective dynamic contrast feature that broadens dynamic range to almost 8000:1 for HDR using a variable backlight option. Video processing is cutting edge, of course, with 360 Hz and G-Sync. There is no FreeSync support, which is a bit unusual in today’s market. The AW2521H also includes ULMB up to 240 Hz. It won’t work in concert with G-Sync but does make a visible difference in motion resolution. Alienware makes a 240 Hz FreeSync version of this monitor, the AW2521HF. Assembly and Accessories of Alienware AW2521H You’ll notice the gold-plated contacts in the stand when snapping it onto the panel. That enables the lighting. You can still use an aftermarket arm with the included 100mm VESA mount if you wish. The cable bundle includes two DisplayPorts, one with a mini connector, and a USB 3.0 wire. The power supply is internal and fed by an IEC power cord. You also get a snap on cover to tidy up the input panel. Because it is a premium monitor, we expect top-level build quality and a long feature list. The Alienware AW2521H has both. Not only is the AW2521H well-made, it has a glowing Alienware logo on the back and a long LED bar on the stand that mimics the shape seen on Alienware’s gaming PCs. The AW2521H features the same small bezel look as most of today’s gaming monitors. The bezel is visible when the power’s on, but is only 7mm wide at the top and sides. The bottom trim is 15mm wide and features the Alienware logo and a label proudly announcing “360 Hz.” A tiny LED at the lower right glows white and doubles as the power button. Behind the right edge are four more keys and an on-screen display (OSD) joystick. They click like a high-end monitor should and make short work of menu navigation and control. On the panel’s top edge is an ambient light sensor. Turning it on allows the image to vary in brightness with your room’s lighting. Styling is minimalist but distinctly Alienware. The long oval shape is a theme that appears on the back of the upright, ringed by LEDs. You’ll see the same element on an Alienware gaming PC which we currently have in the lab. The RGB is coordinated once you make a USB connection and is controllable in the OSD and by the Alienware Command Center app using AlienFX. You can set different colors and effects for particular games or just to your liking. The stand is of high quality and offers a 5 inch height adjustment along with 20 degree swivel left and right, 5/21 degrees of tilt and a 90 degree portrait mode. Inside the upright, visible from the front, is a convenient graduated number scale so you can remember your height setting when moving the AW2521H from place to place. The input panel is recessed deeply underneath, so much so that cables with large connectors will be difficult to use. Luckily, two of the USB ports and the headphone jack are under the panel edge in a more accessible position. Video inputs include two HDMI 2.0, limited to 240 Hz, and a DisplayPort 1.4, which is the one to use for G-Sync and 360 Hz (see our DisplayPort vs HDMI article for more). You also get two more USB 3.2 downstream ports and an upstream, for a total of one up and four down.

  5. The Front-Wheel-Drive Honda Ridgeline Is Canceled Despite quietly being one of the best pickups for most Americans, the Honda Ridgeline has always gotten a bad rap from the vocal majority. That's often due to its unibody construction and front-wheel-drive platform, making it an easy target for folks who hate anything that's not body-on-frame and over 6,000 pounds. The current generation Ridgeline has always offered all-wheel drive, though, and for the 2021 model year, it'll be standard equipment, making the FWD Honda truck a thing of the past. With that in mind, the Ridgeline will now start at $37,665 including destination. That's roughly $2,500 more than the outgoing base model, though the 2021 also wears a new, more aggressive face aimed at appeasing a larger portion of the United States' truck market. The same 3.5-liter, naturally aspirated V6 carries over with Honda's nine-speed transmission as the lone powertrain option. Pricing goes up from there with additions like the $2,800 Honda Performance Development (HPD) package. For that, you'll get fender flares, bronze wheels and new graphics that reflect the Ridgeline's attempt at being more rugged and outdoorsy. Still, that aforementioned facelift is present on every model from the entry Sport model all the way up to the $45,095 Black Edition. Buyers looking for something in between the two can spring for the $40,645 RTL trim or the slightly up-market RTL-E that starts at $43,595. Work capabilities for the Ridgeline are propelled by that 280-horsepower V6, which helps it tow a maximum of 5,000 pounds with payload capacity peaking at 1,580 pounds. You might laugh, but the latter is only 10 pounds shy of the Chevrolet Colorado, a midsize truck that most people seem just fine with. Oh, and the 702-hp Ram TRX with its half-ton platform can handle just 1,300 pounds thanks to its active off-road suspension. This all makes sense for Honda as it looks to boost Ridgeline sales and at least put it in line with its American competitors. In 2020, it was outsold by every other midsize pickup aside from the GMC Canyon, and really, it deserves better than that. It'll officially hit dealer lots on Feb. 2, and at least now you can't complain about wrong-wheel drive.
  6. 10 Best Ways to Boost Hair Growth 1. Avoid restrictive dieting According to Dr. Lindsey Bordone, a dermatologist at ColumbiaDoctors and assistant professor of dermatology at Columbia University Medical Center, we can’t control everything that affects our hair growth. But there are things we can avoid that may cause impaired growth and increased shedding. “Restrictive dieting can decrease resources and nutrients needed for hair growth,” said Bordone. “And since hair growth is a relatively low priority compared to other bodily functions, hair growth is halted quickly when your body is placed under stress due to restrictive dieting,” she explained. “Even after resuming a healthy diet, hair shedding usually goes on for a period of months,” said Bordone. 2. Check your protein intake “If your diet is severely restrictive, hair won’t grow optimally, and shedding can occur,” said Bordone. “Eating a well-balanced diet with adequate protein intake is important for optimal hair growth,” she added. “Generally, we recommend 50 grams of protein or more per day.” 3. Try caffeine-infused products We all know that caffeine can give you an energy boost, but one 2014 studyTrusted Source found that it may also have growth-promoting effects on your hair. According to the study, caffeine may help promote new hair growth at the molecular, cellular, and organ levels in both men and women. If you’re interested in caffeine-infused products, these recommended products are available online: Glimmer Goddess’ Organic Caffeine Hair Growth Conditioner has a blend of ingredients, including caffeine, vitamins, premium oils, and organic plant materials. TruePure Natural Caffeine Shampoo is infused with caffeine and other ingredients like niacin, red clover, and vitamins. 4. Explore essential oils Essential oils not only smell good, but they may also help promote hair growth. One studyTrusted Source found that a daily dose of 400 milligrams of pumpkin seed oil in capsule form resulted in an increase in hair growth in men. After 24 weeks, the men who took pumpkin seed oil experienced a 40 percent increase in hair count. Another studyTrusted Source looked at four groups of mice, each of which was given a different hair treatment. The treatments consisted of saline, jojoba oil, 3 percent minoxidil, or 3 percent peppermint oil. The study found that the group given peppermint oil showed the most hair growth. This included a significant increase in dermal thickness, follicle number, and follicle depth. ResearchTrusted Source has also shown that rosemary oil may be just as effective as minoxidil, the active ingredient in Rogaine, at restoring hair growth. 5. Boost your nutrient profile Specific vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids are especially important for your overall health and also play a key role in providing your body with the energy needed for hair growth. This includes: biotin vitamin C vitamin D vitamin E zinc iron omega-3 and omega-6 One studyTrusted Source found that taking omega-3 and omega-6 supplements for 6 months may help protect against hair loss. Data from another studyTrusted Source suggested that lower zinc levels may play a key role in hair loss. While the research demonstrating the efficacy of biotin is limited, a review of the literatureTrusted Source found 18 reported cases that showed clinical improvement in both hair and nail health after biotin supplementation. If you’re interested in vitamin supplements, these products are available online. LesLabs Hair Health contains all the essential nutrients to support hair growth. This dietary supplement contains vitamin A, vitamin E, thiamin, biotin, pantothenic acid, zinc, zinc, pumpkin seed extract, MSM, and bamboo stem extract. Sugarbear Hair Vitamins are a vegetarian gummy supplement that contains vitamins A, C, D, E, vitamins B-6 and B-12, folate, zinc, biotin, pantothenic acid, and more. 6. Indulge in a scalp massage A scalp massage can help promote relaxation and relieve stress. But, according to a small 2016 studyTrusted Source, it may also help boost the health of your hair. The study examined the effectiveness of daily, 4-minute scalp massages. After 24 weeks, the researchers found that the nine men involved in the study had thicker hair than at the start. While the study didn’t show any noticeable difference in hair growth, it’s thought that a scalp massage may help dilate blood vessels beneath the skin. This, in turn, may lead to thicker, stronger hair that’s less likely to break off or become damaged. You can get a professional scalp massage or indulge in a do-it-yourself massage at home. 7. Look into platelet-rich plasma treatment (PRP) Board certified dermatologist Dr. Sapna Palep of Spring Street Dermatology says using PRP therapy with patients who have hair loss has shown promise. While more controlled studies are needed, one studyTrusted Source found that PRP may serve as an effective treatment option against hair loss. “PRP is a breakthrough treatment that uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to restore and accelerate hair growth,” she said. “Platelets are protein derived from one’s own bloodstream and DNA that can act like a stem cell when placed back into the body,” said Palep. Scalp injections of PRP can jostle awake dormant hair follicles, resulting in more hair growth. Treatments are once a month, for 3 months, and every 6 months thereafter for maintenance. 8. Hold the heat Heat from curling irons, hair dryers, and straighteners can damage your hair and cause breakage. While avoiding heat styling altogether may not be an option, you may want to try limiting how often you use these tools. Decreasing the temperature of heated styling tools can also help reduce hair damage. Additionally, according to a 2011 studyTrusted Source, using a heat protectant product before using a heated styling tool may significantly reduce hair breakage. Heat treatments work by forming a protective barrier that helps prevent moisture loss when using heated tools. If you’re interested in heat protectants, these recommended products are available online: HSI Professional Argan Oil Thermal Protector is a weightless mist that can help protect your hair from heat exposure up to 450ºF (232.2ºC). Kenra Platinum Blow-Dry Spray is a pricier option that can decrease the blow-dry time and protect your hair from heat at the same time. 9. Talk to your doctor about minoxidil Vanessa Thomas, a cosmetic chemist and founder of Freelance Formulations, says there are some ingredients, like minoxidil, that have been clinically tested for hair growth and have shown positive results. Used to treat hereditary hair loss at the back of the head, minoxidil is the active ingredient in Rogaine. “Some products that contain minoxidil do not need a prescription if the concentration of minoxidil is under a certain percentage,” said Thomas. However, any product that uses this drug has to be registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Rogaine doesn’t work for everyone, and it can take up to 4 months to see results. 10. Go easy on coloring your hair “When we dye our hair and change the texture with chemicals, these processes can put stress on the hair and cause it to break,” said Thomas. “But when we tone down these processes, hair breaks off less and can seem like it’s growing faster,” she added.
  7. 275 cases open in Capitol riot investigation, US prosecutors say (CNN) — US investigators have opened 275 criminal cases and charged roughly 98 individuals in connection to last week's pro-President Donald Trump riot at the US Capitol, federal officials said Friday, emphasizing they are focused on rounding up the most violent offenders. That number will easily grow to over 300 by the end of the day, Michael Sherwin, acting US Attorney for the District of Columbia, told reporters during Friday's news conference. The update comes as federal investigators are chasing thousands of leads in twin efforts to prosecute people involved in last week's attack on the US Capitol and to try to prevent feared follow-up attacks in Washington, DC, and around the country. The challenge, FBI and Department of Justice officials say, is "unprecedented," particularly given the growing concerns about possible protests around the country this weekend and planning around what will be the most heavily fortified presidential inauguration in modern US history. "If this investigation was a football game, we'd still be in the first quarter," Steven D'Antuono of the FBI's Washington Field Office said Friday, making clear the arrests and charges levied so far are only the beginning. At the same time, a more complete picture of what occurred inside the Capitol last week is coming into view after a week of arrests and charges. Shocking new details show the riot was extraordinarily violent and posed mortal danger to the top members of the US government -- revelations that have only fueled anxiety about the days ahead. 'No stone unturned' Investigators are looking at the possibility that some members of Congress unwittingly provided tours in the days before the rally to people who later were part of the mob that stormed the Capitol, a US law enforcement official told CNN. No evidence so far has emerged to show complicity by members of Congress, but prosecutors are examining whether some people may have used tours to familiarize themselves with the Capitol building layout, the official added. Several Democratic House members have expressed concern that some GOP lawmakers were somehow aiding rioters. The idea of an insurrection is unheard of in modern US history, and the possibility that lawmakers or allies inside the Capitol were helping only contributes to the uncertainty and worry about the event and what's to come. During Friday's news conference, law enforcement officials did not deny they are investigating the allegations that some lawmakers were involved in the riot. When pressed on the matter, D'Antuono would only say the FBI will "leave no stone unturned" and is "looking at every piece of the puzzle." He and other officials did not elaborate on those investigations, however. Investigators are also looking into whether some of the individuals who breached the Capitol intended to "capture and assassinate elected officials," as alleged by federal prosecutors in a new court filing. So far, officials have not found "direct" evidence of a kill-capture plot but they are pursuing that possibility as part of the investigation based on the evidence they have. "We don't have any direct evidence of kill-capture teams," Sherwin said Friday, adding that counterterrorism prosecutors are still looking at coordination between groups. "We're looking at significant felony cases tied to sedition and conspiracy," Sherwin told reporters on Tuesday, without specifically saying whether any lawmakers or members of law enforcement were under investigation. But Sherwin added, "Our office organized a strike force of very senior national security prosecutors and public corruption prosecutors. Their only marching orders from me are to build seditious and conspiracy charges related to the most heinous acts that occurred in the Capitol." As such, prosecutors are working toward a sedition case and if they establish direct evidence of plans to capture and or kill members of Congress, they will bring those charges. Police being investigated Authorities are investigating a growing number of current law enforcement officers who allegedly participated in the riots. "Unfortunately as this case goes on we're seeing indications that law enforcement officers, both former and current, maybe who have been off duty, participating in this riot activity," Sherwin said Friday. Two police officers from Rocky Mount, Virginia, were arrested Thursday on federal charges relating to the riot, Sherwin said. "We don't care what your profession is, who you are, who you are affiliated with, if you are conducting or engaged in criminal activity, we will charge you and you will be arrested," Sherwin said. Additionally, D'Antuono said Friday that the most "egregious" of the pro-Trump extremists from last week's Capitol attack are the ones who are charged with assaulting law enforcement. Charges have already been filed against individuals like Robert Sanford and Peter Francis Stager and others who may be charged are "a priority for the FBI and our partners." "You attack one of us, you attack all of us," D'Antuono said. Sanford, a retired firefighter, was arrested on Thursday in Pennsylvania and accused of throwing a fire extinguisher that hit three police officers in the head while they were in part of the crowd on a Capitol terrace. Sanford now faces four federal criminal charges related to the riot, including assaulting, resisting or impeding officers on duty. Stager, of Arkansas, faces a criminal charge related to allegedly beating a uniformed officer. He allegedly used a flagpole that had an American flag on it to hit the officer as he lay on the ground surrounded by the mob, according to court records in DC District Court. There are no known arrests related to the death of Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick but the FBI is investigating "several" people, two law enforcement officials told CNN. Earlier Friday, D'Antuono said his investigators are "making progress" on the investigation into the death of the officer. The incident with Sanford is unrelated, he added. D'Antuono said investigators are looking at "anyone and everyone" who may be involved, but did not give specifics on the scope of the investigation. The New York Times was first to report multiple people were being looked at in the probe. No deals Even though some federal defendants related to the riots are self-surrendering, they will not be able to cut deals where their defense attorneys negotiate with prosecutors at this time. "We're not cutting deals with anyone. Even if people are self-reporting, they will be held accountable," Sherwin said. Sometimes in large investigations, prosecutors allow defendants to negotiate down their charges if they offer law enforcement assistance. Prosecutors have noted in court filings how several charged defendants have already spoken to investigators about the riot and how many have posted about their experience or footage they took of the riots on social media.

  10. Microsoft Teams will now recap your meetings for you Very useful for those missed meetings Microsoft Teams has a new feature that will allow users to access important information from a meeting following its conclusion. The recap feature will begin its rollout by the end of January and is expected to be with all Teams users by mid-February. The new addition will allow Teams users to access meeting recordings, chat messages, notes and transcripts from the meeting tab. The feature is expected to prove extremely useful for individuals that may have been unable to attend a meeting, as well as those that were present but want to access the relevant information at a later time. Following the coronavirus pandemic, digital tools like Microsoft Teams have increasingly been used to allow members of staff to remain in contact and collaborate while face-to-face meetings are not possible. However, there remains logistical challenges and not every individual can be present at every meet meeting, even remotely. The new recap feature should make it easier to ensure members of staff do not miss out on important discussions. We've assembled a list of the best video conferencing software available We've ranked the the best collaboration tools around And here's our list of the best business webcams on the market A presentation platform Microsoft has launched a number of new features for its Teams platform of late. In addition to the recap functionality, a history menu will be launched in February that will make it easier for users to navigate to previously visited locations, and enhanced search functionality should make finding specific content more straightforward. Teams has had to compete with other po[CENSORED]r collaboration tools, including Zoom and Google Meet, all of which have seen their po[CENSORED]rity surge over the last 12 months. Teams may be at an advantage, however, if it leverages the po[CENSORED]rity of Microsoft’s other office solutions. Recently, the company announced that a new Presenter View for Teams would enable it to better incorporate Microsoft PowerPoint presentations.
