  6. Heart failure arises when the heart is unable to adequately fulfill its function: to pump blood throughout the body. It is a serious disease, but it is also preventable and treatable. It is estimated that one in five people over 40 will suffer from it in their lifetime. The treatment of this pathology is supported by different medications and medical procedures, as well as a healthy lifestyle based on regular physical exercise and proper nutrition. Javier de Juan and Catalina Munera, associate doctor of the Cardiology Service and nurse of the Heart Failure Unit of the Hospital 12 de Octubre, Madrid, indicate that, if there are no specific contraindications, “a varied, sufficient and balanced diet is recommended, with abundant vegetables (vegetables and fruit), fish, low-fat meats, eggs, dairy products, legumes and whole grains (pasta, rice, bread, oats) ”. The foods that should be avoided are, mainly, industrially processed, prepared and manufactured products that contain salt, trans fats, added sugars ... Fats of animal origin, such as red meat, and derivatives such as butter, must be limited. Also foods rich in simple sugars, pastries and pastries or sweet creams. Avoid salt in excess Javier Segovia, head of the Heart Failure and Transplantation Section of the Puerta de Hierro-Majadahonda Hospital, Madrid, and a member of the Spanish Society of Cardiology (SEC), abounds in the importance of “eating a varied diet, without excess salt nor of calories ”. The experts clarify that it is not necessary to completely eliminate salt if it is not expressly advised by the clinical situation of the patient and recall that the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends not consuming more than 5 grams a day because a higher intake increases the chances of developing hypertension. The best way to reduce your salt intake is to avoid foods that contain large amounts of sodium and to eliminate prepared dishes, smoked dishes, and snacks. "Or, in case of consuming them, to do it in a very punctual way", Segovia emphasizes. As for low-sodium salt substitutes, experts warn that they can be dangerous due to their high potassium content. Instead, "we can consider seasoning the food with various types of spices, fresh or dried aromatic herbs, vinegars and lemon juice," says Munera. Should you take nutritional supplements? Some patients receiving diuretics (drugs to urinate more) in high doses have a tendency to lose potassium in the urine and may require potassium supplementation. However, it should be borne in mind, as Segovia asserts, that "there are also patients with heart failure with a tendency to hyperkalemia (excess potassium), which is as serious as its deficiency." For this reason, it will be the doctor, "with the help of periodic blood tests, who will establish whether a patient needs potassium supplements and in what quantity." De Juan adds that the general recommendation not to take supplements without a prescription "also applies to herbal products, as they can interact with medication." Restricted soft drinks and alcohol Hydration is essential, but not all drinks are equally recommended. Low-calorie soft drinks "can be taken sporadically, although they do not have a nutritional contribution that makes them advisable as an alternative to water, which is the best option to hydrate," says Munera. In addition, their sodium content should be considered before taking them. De Juan makes an important point about hydration in these patients: "One of the complications of heart failure can be fluid retention and that patients need to recognize the signs of this situation that can put them in danger." The cardiologist warns that, if this occurs, especially in advanced stages of the disease, "it is advisable to limit fluid intake to less than two liters a day." As for alcohol, he recalls that "it is not justified to recommend its intake while waiting for health benefits." Likewise, in some patients the cause of heart failure is precisely the abusive consumption of alcohol. In these cases it is recommended to abstain from any amount of alcohol. In the rest, the general recommendation is not to exceed two units of alcohol per day for men and one unit per day for women. One unit is the equivalent of a small glass of wine or a pint of beer. Mediterranean diet and regularity "The low-salt Mediterranean diet summarizes the general recommendations for these patients," Munera emphasizes. The cardiologist at the Puerta de Hierro Hospital adds that, along with this eating pattern, there is another element that is particularly relevant: regularity in eating habits, which “contributes to better treatment (for example, when taking the medication approximately at the same hours) and to avoid decompensation of the disease. Also, the expert declares that eating healthy "does not have to be boring." For example, as a mid-morning snack or snack, ultra-processed snacks can be replaced by a serving of between 20 and 30 grams of nuts, which provide fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and help improve the elasticity of blood vessels. You can also choose tasty fruits such as strawberries, watermelon, cherries, blueberries or papaya, which according to Segovia “are a very good option due to their richness in lycopene, which has vasodilating properties that protect against high blood pressure and from the formation of clots, reduces the production of cholesterol and protects against stroke ”.

  7. Toyota has made some changes to its hybrid crossover, the Toyota C-HR. It is not a generational change and it is not a major restyling. Rather, it is a slight update, but whose improvements come in the security, connectivity and equipment sections. The Toyota C-HR is a vital model for the Japanese firm. It is one of the brand's best-selling cars in Europe, and the best-selling in Spain, so Toyota must take great care of this hybrid crossover. Let's see what changes this Model Year 2021 really presents. Security, connectivity and efficiency The C-HR expands your roster of driving assistants with the integration of the involuntary lane departure warning with active assistant and trajectory maintenance system. As in many other models, this system works by complementing the adaptive cruise control, keeping the car in the center of the lane and adapting the speed to maintain a correct safety distance with the preceding car. On the other hand, all the new Toyota C-HR will carry the acoustic warning system AVAS -Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System-. This audible signal alerts pedestrians to the presence of the vehicle when driving at low speed in EV mode. At the data communication level, the MY2021 introduces a new DCM -Data Communications Module-. Thanks to it, the brand's MyT application allows you to carry out a GPS trace of the vehicle. If there is a change of location we will receive a notification by the app telling us where it is. Also with this app you can check systems such as lights, windows, door locks and information on possible breakdowns. The only update on a mechanical level is that the less powerful version, the 125H, introduces a gasoline particle filter to reduce polluting emissions, which are already generally low in this type of vehicle. The last detail of incorporation in the Toyota C-HR MY21 is that the two-tone Kaji orange color is no longer available only in the special Kaji Edition version, but is extended by the rest of the variants. Not many months ago we tested the C-HR 180H in that Kaji Edition version.

  15. Selecting a variety of foods with high nutritional value is only part of the problem when it comes to eating a healthy diet, since choosing the most appropriate cooking method is also decisive. Choosing ingredients with high nutritional value is only part of the problem when trying to adhere to a healthy diet, since the cooking method, that is, the culinary operation that uses heat to make a food richer , appetizing, edible and digestible, also favoring its conservation, it is also of vital importance. The Spanish Heart Foundation (FEC), which during these days participates in the eleventh edition of the Gastrofestival held in Madrid, is aware of the importance of diet to improve health and prevent diseases of various kinds. “Following a varied and balanced diet is essential to prevent the onset of cardiovascular diseases if it is accompanied, in addition, by the practice of physical exercise on a regular basis. Furthermore, the Mediterranean diet, supplemented with extra virgin olive oil or dried fruits, is capable of reducing the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke or cardiovascular death by 30%, ”explains Dr. José Luis Palma, vice president of the FEC . “You have to eat a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, cereals, fish, legumes, olive oil and nuts. In addition, it is advisable to choose white meat (pork, chicken, turkey) over red meat and, of course, avoid refined sugars, the consumption of saturated fats and trans fats (hydrogenated) and excess salt ”, adds the expert. The healthiest cooking methods But as we mentioned before, as important as choosing the foods we eat properly is the way we cook them. "In the case of fried foods, the oil adds saturated fat and smoked foods go through a healing process in which salt is added, which, as we know, causes high blood pressure, increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease," explains Dr. Palma, which lists the most appropriate cooking methods with health in mind. Boiling is easy and one of the most suitable methods for healthy eating. It is enough with water and do not overdo the cooking time and temperature, because if this is the case, the food may lose some of its nutrients. Steaming is practically the same as boiling food, with the only difference that it does not come into direct contact with water. It is a perfect method for cooking vegetables. Using the oven allows us to enjoy low-fat dishes, since the food releases its own juice and thus we avoid incorporating extra fats. In addition, this way of cooking preserves almost all the nutrients in the food. Sautéing contains little oil and is perfect for cooking vegetables. It is advisable to always use extra virgin olive oil.
  16. The list of brands that boast of creating their own flying car is very long. However, if we look closely at them, any resemblance to a car is purely coincidental in most cases. At least that's how it was until the appearance of the KleinVision AirCar. A Slovak company whose vehicle does seem to really combine the characteristics of a car and an airplane. So much so, that this AirCar can already be seen in its road and flight tests, behaving in each one like any conventional car or airplane. You just need to spread your wings, pick up speed and take off from a long enough straight. Four wheels, headlights and car proportions This curious transport has been designed by Stefan Klein, the designer behind the Aeromobil that was unveiled a few years ago. The AirCar has a similar design, but comes solely from KleinVision, its creator's own company. It also has four wheels and headlights on both sides of the nose, but in addition the AirCar has a width much more similar to that of any road car. As long as its wings are not spread. A ground / air transformer While not commercially available yet, the prototype appears to be well advanced. As you can see in the video, it performs very well during test flights. At least, on a day with near perfect weather conditions. To transform before taking off, its rear section is extended and the wings unfold upward and then spread out to the sides. In this way you are already in "Flight mode", as if it were just another driving mode (ECO mode, Normal, Sport ...) An AirCar also by sea? As is usual with any engineering development, it is early to know what kind of powertrain the AirCar uses. Since the company still keeps many aspects of its creation secret. Nor are therefore known data such as speed by land or air and the autonomy it has. What KleinVision has announced is that they plan to produce three- and four-seat versions, as well as a possible double-propeller model. Even sources close to the house speak of the development of a variant that could also move through water like an amphibious vehicle. Which would cover the three main means of transportation: land, sea and air. Inside the AirCar, the company's effort to resemble a land vehicle is also appreciated. Although it does not have a conventional steering wheel, its instrumentation, dashboard and central tunnel are clearly reminiscent of a car. They have even put a leather upholstery with visors to cover the screens, as is often done in cars. On the passenger side, the space has been used to include the rest of the information necessary for a flying vehicle.

  21. By associating wellness and health with the consumption of vegetables, these options continue to gain ground. Caffeine-free coffees based on chicory root, hamburgers without meat and with shiitakes and drinks based on cereals, seeds and nuts are the essentials of the new paradigm of well-being associated with greener food alternatives and that, with the advent of the pandemic , they gained more ground than the functional foods (or superfoods) of the day had already paid. From açaí to ginger, through quinoa, moringa, turmeric (and the list goes on), the revelation ingredient changes every year but retains its vegetable soul. And the figures corroborate the rise of a manifesto that locates vegetable drinks (or seed milks and cereals) as the success story of the family basket. According to the report ‘The unstoppable rise of plant-based alternatives’, by Euromonitor International in March, the challenge that alternative drinks faced for years was the low number of vegans and vegetarians on the planet. Hence, the current success of these depends more on the followers of flexitarianism - who restrict some foods of animal origin, without being strictly vegan or vegetarian - who, according to the study, reach 50% of global consumers. Blanca Hernández, an expert in the future at the market trends forecasting agency WGSN Latin America, says: “Although we are talking about consumers who are beginning to look for alternatives to improve their well-being, several of them are not looking for a radical change. But the gradual change in eating habits can lead them to be more curious to experiment with alternatives to food and reduce the consumption of animal products without completely eliminating them from their diets and that in turn improve their health ”. For the health ... of the environment The advent of the pandemic accelerated the conversion of many towards these food alternatives. “After the Covid-19 outbreak, consumers looked for options to improve their lifestyle and strengthen the immune system. More and more people are eliminating or reducing the consumption of animal proteins, partly due to the zootechnical origin attributed to the coronavirus, and also due to the impact that these foods have on the environment, ”says Hernández. For this reason, the one that was for years the owner of the vegetable ‘milk’, the soybean, lagged behind the bank. 'Dairy free and soy free', say the most desired labels in this new social order, as demonstrated by the 10.6 billion dollars raised in global retail from the sales of soy-free drinks during 2019, according to Euromonitor International, being those of seeds, nuts and cereals the most sought after alternatives by those who demand transparency from the seeds, non-allergenic ingredients and processes with a low carbon footprint. Now, if the reason for joining an alternative diet is environmental care, it is essential to document the effect of the production processes of cruelty-free food, for example. “Or if these can generate an impact similar to the one we seek to counteract through food. If I am going to have to supplement myself with proteins, vitamins and minerals, there is no use being strict with veganism, since the supplements are not natural ”, concludes Ovallos. At the moment, environmental care is in the background when looking for the triggers for the purchase of vegetable ‘dairy’ drinks. However, the multifunction of its formulas and their combination with technological advances that optimize their nutritional profile without altering them biologically are postulated as the future of this prolific niche. The #dairyfree effect The fertility of the land for food and vegetable ‘milk’ is due to the virality of the cult of the body and the various notions of well-being that social networks grid with numbers of diets, fitness challenges and trends imposed by the food industry. Dietitian nutritionist Daniela Ovallos assures that neither Facebook, Instagram nor Netflix are reliable sources and many ‘gurus’ tend to demonize food in defense of their choices. “There is mani[CENSORED]tion of the results, because they only show the side they want. These channels do not show the harmful effects generated by vegetarian diets that are not done correctly ”, he maintains, and emphasizes the need to seek professional advice when making dietary changes. Continent ‘healthy’ According to the study 'Trends in the consumption of plant-based and vegetable-based foods in Colombia and Latin America', developed by the Ingredion company and the Opinaia consultancy, more than a third of Latin Americans identify with an alternative diet (37% adherents to veganism, vegetarianism, flexitarianism or pescetarianism), as they consider them healthier (80% of those surveyed), key to preventing diseases (44%) or ideal to vary their food sources (39%). And despite the fact that almost a third of Latinos have not consumed plant-based foods, there is a high predisposition to choose them (89% of those consulted), especially in Colombia (93%), Brazil (90%) and Peru (89 %). Jorge Ignacio Zapata, Ingredion's general manager for the Andean Region, says: “There is a consensus on the importance of food in the quality of life. When consuming food and beverages, health benefits are sought, even over taste and economic accessibility, while there is interest in knowing the origin of the ingredients ”. In fact, the preference for less processed products has been a growing trend in the last four years. According to Nielsen, since 2016 Colombians have shown interest in finding food with 100% natural ingredients in supermarkets (70% of buyers from Éxito stores), low in sugar (59%), without or low in fat (58%) , free of colorants (52%) and without artificial flavors (49%). "67% of Colombians indicate they pay attention to the ingredients they consume, and in 99% of households there is at least one healthy product," says Edna Milena Rico, director of Grupo Éxito's Vida Sana fair, who highlights that As of July 31, 2020, products with nutritional benefits reached a 23% share in the portfolio of its supermarkets. “Taeq, our own brand, has more than 350 products of this type, and by the end of the year there will be more than 400, including organic, vegan (lentil burgers and chickpea meatballs) and local, such as chocolate bars with natural cocoa ”, He adds.

  23. They are simple, but they require perseverance and commitment. Ready to study these healthy eating habits to make your skin look perfect? We often turn to cosmetics as a guarantee of young and beautiful skin, but we must tell you that without healthy eating habits, you will not be able to keep it in optimal condition. Nourishing your skin on the inside and providing it with the ingredients it needs to avoid premature aging is an essential requirement, as is a healthy lifestyle. We could say that these are the pillars of "eternal youth", as Inmaculada Canterla, pharmacist, expert in dermocosmetics, nutrition and antiaging and director of the Antiaging Cosmeceutical Center Clinic explains: "A diet low in fat, sugar and salt , but rich in antioxidants, exercising regularly, resting and maintaining an adequate weight and reducing stress are the keys to staying young for longer ”. Well, today we are going to focus on those very beneficial customs that we can incorporate into our daily diet. Go for a pencil and paper and take good note of these tips: Learn to do the shopping. It is useless to mentalize ourselves if then we go to the supermarket hungry and willing to sin with the first whim that comes our way. Instead, Inmaculada advises: "buy fresh fruit and vegetables, avoid convenience foods, and learn to read the labels of the packaged foods we eat." Balance the proportions. Or what is the same, not depriving ourselves of any essential food group, respecting the portion of each one that you must add to our plate. We must, therefore, "opt for seasonal fruits and vegetables, legumes, clean proteins (animals and vegetables), essential fatty acids and an adequate proportion of each of these components is the basis of anti-aging", explains Inmaculada. Always have green leafy vegetables in the fridge. You decide which one you prefer: spinach, arugula, lettuce, mint, chard ... And if it is difficult for you to incorporate them into your usual diet, Inmaculada gives us a trick: "Add ice, water, a few drops of lemon and blend until you get a D-Tox smoothie. & Anti-age. Drink a glass before starting your daily routine. " Consume more oily fish and supplement with Omega 3. It seems to be the best natural anti-inflammatory that we can find, so we should not forget it. "For me, Omega is the main supplement to recommend globally to a po[CENSORED]tion. Obviously, it must be taken into account that Omega 3 is not going to remedy a deficiency of vitamin D or any important mineral, and depending on the health problem it should be combined with other nutrients. But if you have to take a single supplement, almost always it must be Omega 3. In each case, the nutritional and health status of each person must be analyzed and assess what other supplements should be prescribed to obtain specific benefits ".

  24. The Volvo XC40 continues to be the most valuable product for the brand in the Spanish market. It is not the most expensive or the most dynamic car, but it is the best-selling car in our country. Globally it also works really well, as it is the second best-selling Volvo model today, which is said soon. Be that as it may, the brand recently invited us to discover a new version of access to its compact SUV. It is the T2 mechanics, which carries a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with three cylinders and turbocharging, developing 129 hp. Is the Volvo XC40 T2 a recommended version? The XC40 has been on the market for a while. In fact, we already tested it in 2018 during its national presentation. Later, my colleague Enrique examined it in the mechanical version D4. That is why we are not going to go into details of design or habitability. We are going to focus on this new version of access to the Swedish model that, for sure, helps to increase your sales even more. Technical data Volvo XC40 T2 This Volvo XC40 has external dimensions of 4,425 mm in length, 1,863 in width and 1,652 in height; as well as a wheelbase of 2,702 mm. And since we are talking about measurements, the trunk cubes 460 liters. It is a figure higher than that of the Mercedes GLA, but lower than that of other direct competitors, such as the Audi Q3 or the BMW X1. But let's focus on the mechanics we've been testing. As I said, it is an inline three-cylinder engine, which has exactly 1,477 cubic centimeters. It has double camshafts, direct fuel injection and turbocharging, of course. In terms of performance, its technical sheet declares a power of 129 hp at 5,000 rpm, as well as a maximum torque of 245 Nm between 1,500 and 3,000 revolutions. This motorization is available with a six-speed manual transmission and with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Of course, it is always front-wheel drive. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is identical whatever the transmission, and can be completed in 10.9 seconds. As with all newer Volvo cars, the top speed is limited to 180 km / h. The WLTP approved consumption does vary, being 6.8 l / 100 km in the manual versions and 7.2 in the case of the automatic ones. At the wheel: Everything will depend on your usual trips During this test we have been able to drive for several kilometers on two-way roads, mountain passes and highways. Surely many of you wonder if this access mechanic (the cheapest and the least powerful) is enough. I was asking myself this question before I got behind the wheel. The answer is yes, and no ... I'll tell you. I sincerely expected the Volvo XC40 T2 to be a somewhat more refined engine in terms of noise. It is a three cylinder and logically it is not an easy mechanics to isolate. Once hot, at idle, the “imbalance” typical of tricylindrics is not noticeable. You have to pay attention and have the audio equipment turned off to notice it. However, the same does not happen once we are underway. In accelerations, although they are not very strong, from approximately 2,500 rpm you notice that somewhat harsh sound of the engine. If we go with the music it is not appreciated too much, but I think it should be a little better achieved in the case of a car that starts at 31,450 euros without discounts. The response of this engine to stroll is more than correct. We have tested it with the 8-speed automatic gearbox, and the truth is that it is a smooth and pleasant combination. In city and crossings the 129 CV and 245 Nm of torque are more than enough. Therefore, I consider that if the vast majority of your routes are urban, this option is very sensible. I cannot say the same if you are going to use the car to travel with the family from time to time. It is true that there is no problem to maintain a constant high speed on freeways without slopes, but when an incline arrives the automatic transmission reduces one or two gears to try to maintain the rhythm. We are also not overloaded when joining a fast road on a slope or when overtaking on a two-way road. You have to measure well, be proactive and accelerate hard to get enough speed. All this, in the case of our test, has been with a single occupant and a suitcase in the trunk. If we go four adults and the trunk loaded with luggage "we will suffer" more. We solve the doubt Is this T2 version with a 129 hp gasoline engine enough? If your usual routes are around the city and its surroundings, yes. But if you are going to go out on the road regularly, you will not find a very energetic response when overtaking or if you intend to carry out dynamic driving. In that case, you'd better opt for a more powerful variant. Anyway, do not think that you are totally "sold". You can travel on the highway without problems at normal speeds as long as the orography of the area does not have too many slopes, which is where that extra performance is a bit lacking. In fact, if you drive a lot of kilometers, you can also opt for a diesel version, such as the 150 hp XC40 D3, which is also offered with manual and automatic transmission, and can also be optionally combined with AWD four-wheel drive. The front-wheel drive manual D3 starts at 34,350 euros. Of course, despite its lower power consumption could be more content. It is true that in these presentations the actual consumption cannot be measured well, but the 7.5 l / 100 km on the highway at 120 km / h seems like a high figure to us. Leaving the engine aside ... If we put engine performance aside, the Volvo XC40 is a very high quality and very comfortable product. It does not have a sporty orientation, but rather seduces drivers with a high level of comfort through its suspensions, really comfortable seats and a touch of all controls that its German rivals must respect. What I did miss is a couple of paddles behind the wheel. It is not that we are usually going to change gears, but at certain times they come in handy to, for example, reduce a couple of gears ourselves, rev the engine and better prepare an overtaking. The operation can be done from the selector lever, but it is not as comfortable and fast. At the level of driving assistants, the Volvo XC40 comes well loaded. To highlight the good operation of the Pilot Assist system, which helps us in driving by combining the adaptive cruise control and the lane keeping system. It works well and smoothly, something that cannot be said in all cars. There are also other assistants and safety systems such as City Safety, blind spot control or cross traffic alert; technologies that contribute significantly to reducing accident rates on the roads.
