Noctua have collaborated with Asus to produce a custom cooled Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card. VideoCardz has shared the first images of this second Asus x Noctua cooperative product, and from many angles it is practically indistinguishable from its predecessor. Thankfully the box art makes clear this is an RTX 3080 and the backplate features some significant changes. As ever with these unofficial leaks, please take this information with a pinch of salt. The purported box art suggests that the partners have got together to launch a 10GB RTX 3080, and there is no evidence there will be a version built around the newer 12GB configuration. Immediately evident is that from the fan side the new model looks identical to the RTX 3070 version. The source reckons they are identical in this respect, both with an overall thickness of 4-slots. By our estimations the new RTX 3080 could be a little fatter. Ports available include triple DisplayPort 1.4 and dual HDMI 2.1. This is the same configuration as provided with the previous Asus x Noctua card, but with a slightly different arrangement of ports on the backplate. The new model features twin 8-pin power connectors, just like its predecessor, too. The biggest evidence of change under the cooling shroud comes from the backplate. The new backplate shows a modified and sturdier looking GPU mounting brace on the underside of the PCB. All the vents on the backplate look more substantial too. VideoCardz found the new Asus x Noctua GeForce RTX 3080 listed in Europe at €1,150 ($1,215) – a €250 ($264) premium over the RTX 3070 version. For further reading about Asus x Noctua graphics cards and some insight into what to expect, please have a read through our extensive Asus GeForce RTX 3070 Noctua Review. At the time of the review we lamented that the first collaborative product hadn't been an RTX 3080, 3080 Ti, or 3090 GPU, as the cooling solution seemed like overkill for the RTX 3070. We can't wait to see how the new Asus x Noctua GeForce RTX 3080 fares in the labs. After all, the GeForce RTX 3080 is currently the leading graphics card in our Best Graphics Cards for Gaming in 2022 buying guide.

OnePlus Nord 2 5G OxygenOS 12 Closed Beta Testing (CBT) programme is now open for users in India, the company announced on the OnePlus Community forum. At the moment, the programme doesn't include the Nord 2 PAC-MAN Edition of the smartphone. The Chinese company is looking to recruit 200 closed beta testers for the short term beta testing programme. OnePlus Nord 2 5G went on sale in India in July last year. The smartphone had come as a successor to OnePlus Nord and carried a bigger primary camera, larger battery, and faster charging as the notable upgrades over the previous model. The CBT for the OnePlus Nord 2 5G is the first step towards a stable release. After completing the CBT, OnePlus usually announces the Open Beta programme, which is then followed by a Stable release. Unlike its usual strategy, this CBT will not be a long-term programme. The Chinese smartphone maker is aiming towards a short-term CBT programme and plans to release only a few builds. As mentioned, the current programme is also limited to OnePlus Nord 2 users in India and it doesn't include the Nord 2 PAC-MAN Edition of the handset. OnePlus will recruit 200 OnePlus Nord 2 5G users for the CBT programme who will then have to sign a non-disclosure agreement with the company. The recruited participants are expected to communicate, report bugs/issues, and provide suggestions to the software team on a regular basis via Telegram. Interested OnePlus Nord 2 5G users can head over to this link to apply for the programme. OnePlus Nord 2 5G specifications The dual-SIM (Nano) OnePlus Nord 2 5G runs on OxygenOS 11.3 based on Android 11. It sports a 6.43-inch full-HD+ (1,080x2,400 pixels) Fluid AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI SoC, along with up to 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM. It comes with a triple rear camera setup that houses a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 primary sensor with an f/1.88 lens, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide shooter, and a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor under its hood. OnePlus Nord 2 5G sports a 32-megapixel Sony IMX615 selfie camera at the front. The OnePlus Nord 2 5G carries up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. There are also connectivity options that include 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.2, NFC, and USB Type-C, among others. The phone also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor. It packs a 4,500mAh battery with Warp Charge 65 fast charging support. The smartphone measures 158.9x73.2x8.25mm and weighs 189 grams.

A new era of gargantuan Google Sheets could be coming thanks to a new change made by the company. In a Google Workspace update blog, the company revealed that it was increasing the cell limit in its spreadsheet software from up to five million cells to up to ten million cells. The new limit isn't just for newly-created files either, with Google noting that it will also be available for existing and imported files, meaning you can expand to your heart's content. Giant Google Sheets "Over the course of the last four years, we’ve been steadily increasing the cell limit in Google Sheets: from 2 million to 5 million in 2019 and now to 10 million," the blog post read. "We hope this and future increases give users the ability to work with their data on a much greater scale in Google Sheets." The update is rolling out now to all users, and won't require any special admin control or action to activate. It's available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers. The feature is the latest in a series of recent updates to Google Sheets as it looks to boost its offerings for hybrid workers. This includes the recent addition of intelligent formula suggestions based on the data in question and the user’s initial input, taking much of the heavy lifting out of complex formulae. The software itself also recently saw a cosmetic overhaul to make Google Sheets better for users with smaller screens. The changes saw the menu bar, as well as the right-click menu shortened to better fit on a smaller screen, and to prevent menu items from being hidden off-screen. Some features were also reorganized and moved to “more intuitive” locations. For example, freezing a row or a column can now be done directly from the right-click menu. Menu items also received new icons, while the descriptions of some items in the menu are shorter.

Some interesting comments made by an Intel senior executive in China have come to light. According to a report from Taiwan's DigiTimes, an Intel exec said that it is clear Chinese CPU makers will become "strong competitors" to Intel in the next three to five years. Rui Wang, SVP of Intel Corporation and chair of Intel China, made the comments at the 2022 National Party Congress on March 11. You don't need to ask which party was holding the event in China, and this should help put the crowd pleasing comments into some perspective. Truth or Toady? Speaking at a Chinese Communist Party gettogether probably isn't an ideal situation to share inconvenient truths about the nation's hopes of CPU glory. With this in mind, perhaps Wang was trying to please party despots, to be optimistic, or at least to be polite about China's chances of catching up with the likes of Intel in the CPU sphere. "So far there has not been any local companies that are able to deal a substantial threat to Intel," stated the Intel SVP at the National Party Conference last week. "But in 3-5 years, it will become clear that local companies will emerge as strong rivals," envisioned Ms. Wang. Having said this, Wang went a little distance to temper expectations that US tech giant Intel would easily be displaced, dislodged, or usurped as the CPU leader in China. "Intel won't be polite, and will exert its power to compete fairly," she reminded anyone getting carried away with hopes of an easy victory. Chinese Companies With Intel in Their Sights Unfortunately, Intel China's Chair wasn't specific about the avenue from which Intel's business in China would be assaulted. No specific Chinese CPU or IT company was highlighted, and no mention was made of any specific architecture with a chance at becoming an Intel competitor. China has quite a wide range of CPU design outfits that could potentially surprise us in the next three to five years. We have previously and recently reported on the successes of China-made Zhaoxin CPUs. One of these LuJiaZui microarchitecture quad-core chips features in what looks like a China-only version of the Yoga Slim 7i laptop, dubbed the Lenovo Kaitian N7. The immature architecture combined with a custom China OS means that the N7 isn't a great performer, however, and it looks like it has issues with waste heat and battery life. We have also posted news in recent months discussing Chinese chip advances by the likes of Loongson (MIPS based), Sunway (supercomputers), and Hygon (AMD Zen 1 based, under license). China also has at least a couple of firms building processors on the Arm architecture. Huawei's HiSilicon and Phytium Technology are the two best know Arm architecture proponents in China. Phytium has a particularly wide portfolio with products for the server, workstation, and embedded markets, as well as five new high performance CPUs penciled in for the coming months.
