  6. Google has announced a bunch of new AI-enabled features for its office software suite that should help streamline professional workflows. Speaking at Google I/O 2022, CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted a feature introduced to Google Docs back in February that lets users generate summaries of long documents. The idea is to help people grasp the most important facts without having to read something in its entirety. In the next few months, this feature will be extended to Google Chat too, arming users with a bullet list of the most salient moments in a conversation. The feature could be extremely useful for someone returning from holiday, for example, or for high-traffic group channels. Lastly, Google announced a new transcription feature for its video conferencing software, Meet, effectively eliminating the need for taking minutes. There’s nothing particularly innovative here, but it’s an update that helps close the gap on the likes of Zoom and Microsoft Teams. New-look Google Workspace The updates for the Workspace suite announced at Google I/O are the latest in an series of upgrades that utilize AI to either automate processes or improve the quality of the user’s work. Last month, for example, the company lifted the lid on a range of new assistive writing features for Docs, including synonym and sentence structure suggestions. The word processor will also flag up any “inappropriate language” (although the definition is slightly unclear), as well as instances in which the writer would be better served by using the active rather than passive voice. Separately, an update for Google Drive allows the cloud storage service to intuit which documents a user may want to work on at which time of day, cutting the time spent hunting for specific files. The campaign to breathe a greater level of intelligence into Workspace apps is one element of a wider strategy, announced at last year’s I/O, which will see Google introduce new synergies between its various collaboration applications. The implicit suggestion was that Google plans to lean into the benefits of its cloud-based model to help rival the level of interoperability between Microsoft products and services, extending all the way out to the Windows operating system on which most business computers run. The latest Workspace updates may seem relatively insignificant in isolation, but when assessed in the wider context, show that Google is deliberately fine-tuning its software suite to maximize value for time-poor professionals in this new era of hybrid work.
  7. AMD has released the AMD Software Preview Driver May 2022, which is now available to all Radeon graphics card owners. The latest driver comes with new features and substantial performance improvements for both new and old games. The AMD Software Preview Driver May 2022 offers up to 10% higher graphics performance, on average, in various DirectX 11-based games on AMD's latest Radeon RX 6000-series graphics cards. According to AMD's internal tests, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and World of Warcraft: Shadowlands showed 28% and 30% better performance, respectively. The new driver also brings Smart Access Memory (SAM) optimizations, specifically for Death Stranding and Watch Dogs: Legion. As a result, AMD recorded performance uplifts of 10% in Death Stranding and 13% in Watch Dogs: Legion at 1440p on a Radeon RX 6950 XT. With a Radeon RX 6750 XT, the chipmaker saw 12% better frame rates in Death Stranding and 24% in Watch Dogs: Legion. Meanwhile, AMD only observed a 6% increase in Death Stranding and Watch Dogs: Legion on a Radeon RX 6650 XT. The company used a Ryzen 7 5800X3D to power its test systems and used the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 22.5.1 driver for comparison. Games Performance Gains World of Warcraft: Shadowlands 30% Assassin’s Creed Odyssey 28% Total War Saga: Troy 17% Grand Theft Auto V 11% Watch Dogs: Legion 10% Valorant 7% Total War Hammer 3 5% Apex Legends 5% Far Cry 5 4% PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds 3% The Witcher 3 3% Farming Simulator 22 3% Overwatch 3% Other games, which AMD failed to mention in the release notes, will also benefit from the AMD Software Preview Driver May 2022. The developer of CapFrameX, a famous frame times capture and analysis tool, did some of his own testing and discovered some significant DirectX 11 performance upgrades in Crysis Remastered and God of War. The developer used a Core i7-12700K and an overclocked Radeon RX 6800 XT. The results revealed up to 24% higher performance in Crysis Remastered and up to 41% in God of War. He noticed 34% better lows in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. In other news, the AMD Software Preview Driver May 2022 now comes with the "sharpen effect" for Radeon users to tweak the sharpness of the image when using AMD's Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) 1.1 technology. AMD has also integrated the AMD Bug Report Tool directly into the Adrenalin software. Radeon graphics card owners can download the AMD Software Preview Driver May 2022 at AMD's website. It is a preview driver, though, so there are bound to be some bugs. AMD didn't share when the final driver will be ready for prime time.
  8. Musician Name: Ayumi Hamasaki Birthday / Location: October 2, 1978 (43 years old) Fukuoka Japan Main instrument: J-pop, rock, dance-pop, electronica, R&B Musician Picture: Musician Awards & Nominations:- Best Performance: - Other Information: Ayumi Hamasaki (浜崎あゆみ Hamasaki Ayumi?, born October 2, 1978) is a Japanese singer, songwriter, record producer, model, actress, spokesperson and businesswoman. Also called Ayu by her fans, Hamasaki wrote all the lyrics for her songs, even producing and composing her own material. Born and raised in Fukuoka, Hamasaki moved to Tokyo in 1993 at the age of fourteen to begin her career in the entertainment business. In 1998, under the tutelage of Max Matsuura, CEO of Avex Trax, Ayumi Hamasaki released her debut single, "Poker Face",[note 1] and, a year later, her debut album, A Song for XX.[note 1] The album debuted at number one on the Oricon music charts, staying there for five weeks, selling over a million copies. The next ten studio albums released by Hamasaki sold over one million copies in Japan, with the third, Duty, selling nearly three million units. A Best, her first greatest hits album, is her best-selling album, with over four million units shipped in Japan alone. Since 2006, after the release of the Secret album, Hamasaki's album and single sales have declined. Ayumi Hamasaki has sold over 50 million records, becoming the highest-selling Japanese solo artist. Hamasaki also holds several records in the Japanese musical sphere, such as the most number of Oricon number one singles (38), the most consecutive Oricon number one singles (25) and the most albums and singles with more than one million copies sold.[note 2] Between the years 1999 and 2010, Hamasaki had at least two of its singles at the top of the charts. She is also the first female artist to have ten studio albums at the top of the Oricon since her debut, and the first artist to have a number one album on the Oricon for 13 consecutive years since her debut. His second remix album, Super Eurobeat Presents Ayu-ro Mix, is recognized as one of the best-selling remix albums of all time, and remains his only album to be recognized worldwide. During the height of her career, Hamasaki was dubbed the "Empress of J-pop" due to her po[CENSORED]rity in Japan and across Asia. After an ear infection, acquired in the year 2000, aggravated by constant exposure to loud music, Ayumi Hamasaki suffered worsening and hearing loss, being completely deaf in her left ear.

  14. Apple has officially announced the discontinuation of the last iPod Touch model, effectively ending its iconic iPod product line, which began with the launch of the original iPod in October 2001. While Apple did not create the market for portable music players, it captured the imagination of the world at the time, with its unique scroll wheel and convenient shape and size. In addition to various iterations of the original iPod, Apple also sold the extremely po[CENSORED]r iPod mini, iPod nano, iPod shuffle, and iPod Touch series over the past several years. The company eventually reduced the portfolio, discontinuing the iPod (later renamed iPod Classic), iPod nano, and iPod shuffle over the past several years. The series had not been updated since the launch of the 7th Gen iPod Touch in mid-2019, which came four years after the previous refresh and was the sole remaining model on sale. Even its presence on Apple's official website had been diminished, as other products, most notably the iPhone, replaced it. Apple's iPod became a pop culture sensation, with several iconic advertisements highlighting the white earphones that were bundled with it. Excitement ran high each time a new model was expected to be launched. The original iPod, with its 5GB capacity and FireWire connection, was exclusively compatible with Macs, but Apple in 2003 capitalised on the line's po[CENSORED]rity and announced a Windows version of the iTunes app required to manage music on iPods at the time. That move would be credited with helping Apple establish its brand identity in the Steve Jobs era. Over the past 20 years, Apple introduced new features such as the click wheel with a touch surface and integrated buttons and flash memory beginning with the iPod nano line. The iTunes Music Store allowed users to purchase and sync music, before streaming became dominant and Apple replaced it with Apple Music. When the iPhone was first unveiled in 2007, it was billed as an iPod with touch controls as well as an Internet-connected device and a mobile phone. With the growing po[CENSORED]rity of the iPhone as well as streaming services, Apple cut down its focus on the iPod line, and the lack of updates beyond the 7th Gen iPod Touch has indicated the eventual discontinuation of the line for years now. While the iPod Touch was at times highlighted as a gaming device, or a more affordable Internet-connected device for children, it is less relevant now in the age of streaming content. Apple now says this model will remain available while stocks last, but suggests its various other products including iPhones, the Apple Watch, and HomePod mini as ways to listen to music on the go and at home.
  15. After acquiring ContentCal last year, Adobe has launched a new content scheduler as part of an update to Adobe Express called “Content Scheduler”, allowing you to time your content to whenever you desire. With tools to plan, schedule, preview, and publish social media posts across multiple platforms, Adobe’s new content scheduler does exactly as its name suggests all from one app, which should be a welcome tool in the arsenal of content creators who are paying for Adobe’s newest subscription service, priced at $9.99 / £9.99 / AU$10.99 a month. Previously, social media savants would often need multiple apps in order to do everything that Adobe’s content scheduler can now do, as this new tool allows you to post to Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, all from one place. Adobe’s Content Scheduler will also let you accurately preview your posts so you can make sure things look right regardless of which platform you’re posting on. Unfortunately for those on Adobe Express’ free tier, the new content scheduler is only available via the premium plan, and it only works across Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, for now, so there’s no support for TikTok and LinkedIn influencers. Additionally, Adobe states that the “full range of Content Scheduler capabilities” are only available via the Express web app, so you won’t be able to schedule on the go from your phone or tablet. Adobe does at least promise that “there’s a lot of good stuff in the pipeline,” so it’s a good start to better publish your content without you being at your desk at least.
  16. Intel Arc Alchemists's launch isn't going according to plan - but then again, most of the world isn't. According to an Intel blog post penned by Lisa Pearce, Vice President and General Manager for the Visual Compute Group, Intel's Arc Alchemist launch has been hit by software development snags that have pushed availability forwards in all designs, from mobile GPUs through desktop-class Arc cards - whose initial release seems to be locked for OEMs and system integrators. The blog post also states the impact of recent COVID-19 outbreaks in China (which we've covered before) impacting component availability. According to Pearce, Intel is pushing through the issues - particularly the production ones - with a number of OEMs, such as Samsung, Lenovo, Acer, HP, and Asus, in order to increase the number of delivered designs with Intel's Arc A3560 and A370 graphics. If you're hoping for more graphics grunt, however, and were looking at Intel's Arc A750 and A770, you'll have to wait until early Summer. Intel's work in delivering full-performance desktop graphics solutions is even more convoluted. According to the company, desktop Intel Arc graphics will only be initially available through OEMs and system integrator. According to Pearce, this is being done in order to control the number of hardware configurations that can be paired with the company's first high-performance desktop GPUs. Compatibility is one of the pitfalls of PC components; there are a myriad of possible hardware configurations that can be paired with a latest-gen graphics card, and GPU manufacturers such as Nvidia and AMD know full well how this adds to driver complexity and potential performance pitfalls that come along with it. It might take a while before you can actually acquire an Intel ARC graphics card from the shelves of your local PC hardware store. Adding to the staggered Arc launch, Intel's blog clarifies that initial roll-out of entry-level Arc desktop cards (A3 series) will first occur in China starting in Q2, with a later in the year launch for A5 and A7 series cards. This makes sense for a launch troubled by materials and component shortages as well as supply chain bottlenecks that are still being felt: China stands as the world's nevralgic center for materials and chip processing. Once again, worldwide roll-out of desktop-class Arc cards will come later. None of these elements are particularly surprising; we've already covered the staggered launch of Intel's Arc Alchemist lineup. Originally slated for worldwide availability, we were as surprised as you were when Intel announced limited, localized availability of Arc GPUs through a partnership with Samsung for the South Korean market, before increasing availability on both Samsung and other partners' designs around the globe. Adding to this is one particularly egregious moment for Intel's software development efforts, after the company failed to produce a promised day-0 driver release for Elden Ring that never materialized. Delays and execution problems on Intel's Arc launch are happening even as Intel recently promoted Raja Koduri to the position of Executive Vice President for his contributions to Intel over the years. Of course, the consistent software and hardware delays don't paint a picture of perfect execution. But we're living strange times in the PC space - and in the world. Perhaps Intel knows more about its Arc GPUs than it's letting on.

  24. Microsoft continues to improve upon its resurrected media player in Windows 11, bringing back a music library and the ability to better control how your videos look. Windows Media Player was first announced by the company in November 2021 that would be replacing the Groove Music app. Since then it's become available on the redesigned Microsoft Store, allowing users to manage their content in an app that's not VLC or through their YouTube playlists. Having the ability to manage your music library will bring a big advantage to those who want to only add, delete and view their favorite albums in Windows Media Player, much like how many used to in the days of Windows 98. But with the added feature of being able to control the brightness and contrast of your videos, it makes us wonder what plans Microsoft has for its nostalgic media player for Windows 11 users. Analysis: Microsoft, bring back the visualizers After years of faintly supporting its Groove Music app, it's great to see a renewed focus from Microsoft on not only bringing back the Windows Media Player name, but bringing a design that harkens back to previous versions of it from the days of Windows XP. While you can use third-party apps such as IINA, VLC Player, and iTunes, there's something about managing your music in Windows Media Player again in 2022. But the company can go further to tug on those nostalgic heartstrings for the app. Nostalgia applies to all types of medium - from television to games, and now apps. Users remember logging onto MSN Messenger after school and sending 'nudges' to each other, and having some features be brought back to Media Player could be a nice touch. The visualizations were a big drawer in previous versions, so to have these in an upcoming update would be great to see as you're playing the latest Kendrick Lamar album. As an added touch, having these work across multiple monitors, a common staple in offices and workplaces, could bring the multi-colored visualizations to a new level in how they can work on multiple devices. In the meantime however, these new updates to Media Player, however small, will be a big help to those who just want to manage their music with no fuss, but in an app that calls back to the days of a CRT monitor, attached to a beige-colored PC, logging in to the internet through a dial-up connection.
