Identifying the issues behind a sketchy or badly-connecting Google Meet video call could soon be a thing of the past thanks to a new update. The video conferencing platform has introduced a new service that will let admins monitor call quality and single out any issues or bandwidth bottlenecks. The new Meet quality tool will even allow admins to monitor connections over time, spotting if there are any specific times when bandwidth may be in high demand. Google Meet bandwidth In a blog post announcing the new tool, Google notes that the service will monitor both inbound and outbound bandwidth, covering both used and available. "Surfacing this information helps admins visualize participants bandwidth compared to the quality of a call, making it easier for them to determine where a bandwidth bottleneck could be causing low quality," the company noted. Google added that knowing which bitrates are available or being used for specific endpoints can be crucial when performing troubleshooting or working to improve call quality in your domain. However such data was previously only available as an average across entire calls, which can make it difficult to narrow down problems during specific points in time. "We hope by surfacing this detailed information, Admins can easily troubleshoot or improve call quality for their users," it said. The tool is available by default to all Google Workspace customers now, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers. The news is the latest in a series of updates as Google looks to ensure its video calling tool stays up to speed with competitors such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Some of its most recent upgrades include allowing up to 500 participants to join a video call at the same time to make it easier to connect and collaborate with colleagues, clients and customers. Users can also enable live streaming in Google Meet which will allow up to 100,000 viewers to watch at once. We've compiled a list of the best online collaboration tools

Intel's support for AVX-512 instructions with its Alder Lake processors has been a confusing affair. The company initially claimed the feature wouldn't work on its new 12th Gen processors and then backtracked when motherboard vendors found multiple workarounds to enable the commands. After a bit of cat and mouse with motherboard vendors that built new firmware to enable the feature despite Intel's attempts at disabling it, the company has finally decided to deploy the nuclear option and fuse off AVX-512 support entirely inside newer revisions of the Alder Lake chips. An anonymous source tipped us off that newer batches of Intel's non-K processors (models that aren't overclockable) appeared to have AVX-512 support disabled entirely. We followed up with Intel, and the company issued the following statement to Tom's Hardware: "Although AVX-512 was not fuse-disabled on certain early Alder Lake desktop products, Intel plans to fuse off AVX-512 on Alder Lake products going forward." -Intel Spokesperson to Tom's Hardware. And so ends Alder Lake's AVX-512 saga, as Intel will now blow an internal fuse to physically disable support at the silicon level. As a reminder, Intel initially told the press that AVX-512 wouldn't work on the new x86 hybrid processors due to the use of two different microarchitectures, one of which doesn't support the instructions. As such, Intel said it would fuse off the AVX-512 FMA entirely. Prior to launch, an Intel optimization guide appeared that showed the feature was planned for the processors, but Intel again claimed that Alder Lake wouldn't support the instructions. The company issued a new guide that removed references to working AVX-512 in Alder Lake processors. The Alder Lake launch found the instructions working on some motherboards via a toggle created by the motherboard vendors, obviously against Intel's wishes. Intel remained quiet on the issue at first, though the company did tell the Taiwanese press that it would treat AVX-512 support on Alder Lake much like overclocking — officially unsupported and at your own risk. In early January, we heard the first word that Intel would disable the feature with new microcode (chip firmware) present in newer BIOS updates. Sure enough, new BIOSes appeared that same week that disabled the AVX-512 option, exiling the AVX-512 faithful to the land of no BIOS updates if they wished to continue to use the instructions. We thought the issue was a done deal at that point. Still, MSI found a way around Intel's AVX-512 assassination by enabling a BIOS toggle that allowed users to easily flip between older and newer BIOS revisions, thus re-enabling AVX-512 support last month. It's fair to assume that Intel was not happy with the continued trickery, and now the company is disabling AVX-512 in a decidedly immutable manner — no amount of BIOS hacking or trickery will enable AVX-512 on all newer Alder Lake chips. So if you're dead set on using AVX-512 on Alder Lake, you'll need an older chip and will have to stick with one of the older BIOS revisions. Intel would like you to step up to its more expensive Xeon chips if you want AVX-512 support with its newer architectures. Intel is also dealing with motherboard vendors that have enabled overclocking with the company's supposedly non-overclockable non-K models. Intel is none too pleased with those workarounds, so we can expect Intel's solution for that "problem" soon, too.

OnePlus announced at MWC 2022 on Monday that the company will launch the OnePlus 10 Pro in global markets — including in India — by the end of March 2022. The company also announced that it plans to launch its most affordable 5G smartphone yet in India and Europe later this year, along with new IoT devices. OnePlus revealed that it's working on a smartphone that supports 150W SuperVOOC fast charging, and that it will debut in the second quarter of 2022. Interestingly, OnePlus has now clarified that its OxygenOS operating system will share its codebase with ColorOS, but will retain its own look and feel when OxygenOS 13 is released. The two Android-based OS skins were earlier reported to merge into a unified OS. Meanwhile at MWC, Oppo showcased a new 240W flash charging technology that can fully charge a phone's battery in under 9 minutes. The smartphone manufacturer revealed that it would begin selling the OnePlus 10 Pro in Europe, India, and North America by the end of March. It said that the smartphone has generated over CNY 100 million (roughly Rs. 120 crore) in open sales in China, where it launched in January this year. Meanwhile, OnePlus will launch its most affordable 5G capable smartphone in India and in Europe later this year. The company also announced that it will introduce a new retail model in India that will allow customers to order smartphones online, then pick them up at retail stores after a OnePlus store member has set it up for them. OnePlus also revealed that it will launch a new smartphone in the second quarter of 2022 that will support 150W SuperVOOC fast charging. The charging tech, developed by the Oppo Research Institute, is claimed to charge a 4,500mAh battery from 1 percent to 50 percent in just five minutes. OnePlus says the technology is powered by a customised twin battery setup, industry-leading battery PCB protection board, and a highly integrated microcontroller to improve overall charging efficiency. While OnePlus had announced in September that it would merge OxygenOS and ColorOS into a unified OS that would feature on both the companies' devices, OnePlus has now revealed that its OxygenOS 13 will remain an independent brand property when Android 13 arrives. The decision to retain OxygenOS on OnePlus devices was taken as a result of feedback from the community, according to the company. However, OxygenOS and ColorOS will both be developed on the same codebase as previously announced, OnePlus has clarified. On the software front, OnePlus also revealed that it will introduce its HyperBoost Gaming Engine, which offers features such as GPA Frame Stabilizer to reduce frame rate fluctuation, O-Sync to increase syncing speed by up to six times, and GPU Load Control (GLC) to increase rendering efficiency with up to 36 percent improved power consumption. The HyperBoost Gaming Engine will be introduced as part of an OTA update when the OnePlus 10 Pro is launched in India, Europe, and North America. There is currently no word on whether the feature will be available for older OnePlus devices. OnePlus sister-brand Oppo also showcased 150W SuperVOOC charing technology at MWC 2022 on Monday that it plans to introduce on upcoming Oppo flagship phones. The announcement was accompanied by a demo of 240W SuperVOOC flash charge technology that Oppo claims can charge a 4,500mAh battery from 1 percent to 100 percent in about 9 minutes. The technology is designed with 24V/10A on USB Type-C, according to Oppo, and the company says it has utilised three charge pumps for faster charging. The power supplied to the handset can be converted to 10V/24A using a supported adapter, according to the company. According to the company, the 240W SuperVOOC adopts five safety protection measures and uses a customised control chip that controls the voltage, current, and temperature on the smartphone. Oppo is also relying on a customised battery safety monitoring chip that can assess and monitor whether the battery of the phone is damaged by any external forces when in use. The technology is also paired with a temperature protection feature that monitors 13 temperature sensors on the phone to keep track of overheating. Oppo is yet to reveal when the technology will be available commercially or which models will come with 240W charging.

The speed at which Linux developers are working on version 5.17 of the po[CENSORED]r kernel has gotten the OS’ boss a bit worried. In the weekly State of the kernel post, Linux creator (and the biggest developer) Linus Torvalds, said he believed the progress (or lack thereof) wasn’t caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, or “whatever crazy things are going on in the world”, as these things “don't seem to have affected the kernel much." However, the number of known regressions that Torvalds is claiming have been out there since late January have affected the development cycle. Although these “don't seem all that big and scary”, Torvalds did stress that some of them were reported right after the rc1 release, meaning they’re getting somewhat stale Linux “looks fine” “I'd hate to have to delay 5.17 just because of them, and I'm starting to be a bit worried here. I think all the affected maintainers know who they are,” he concluded, before urging subsystem maintainers to make these regressions a priority. Torvalds also seems to be extra careful not to cause any panic, saying “but on the whole, things look fine. Just a few remaining warts is all. But the more testing to verify, the better.” Linux, an operating system that, in its early days, couldn’t stand next to the likes of Windows, or macOS, has grown immensely po[CENSORED]r with the proliferation of mobile devices and the Internet of Things (IoT). An open-source Unix-like operating system, based on the Linux kernel, the OS now powers Android, the world’s biggest and most po[CENSORED]r mobile operating system. Furthermore, many IoT manufacturers have deployed Linux on their devices, as well. However, some manufacturers are also moving away from Linux. Google, for example, is developing an entirely new operating system for some of its IoT and smart home devices, called Fuchsia OS. This new OS, which is still in early development phase, is based on a new kernel named Zircon. These are the best laptops for programming

Intel recently published an updated datasheet for its 600 Series Chipset Family Platform Controller Hub (PCH). If you hit the "PCH SKUs" bookmark to the left side of the linked webpage or download the PDF and head to Page 14, you will see a table like the one below. As your eyes move down the table, you will see some values separated by a slash. The first value is correct with regard to Intel 600 series chipsets. According to some admittedly fragile logic and Japan's Uniko's Hardware, the second value, as highlighted, could represent the changes we will see when Intel's 700 series chipsets arrive. Above, you can see that it looks like there will be some spec changes affecting motherboard PCIe lanes and USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 specs. Please add some salt here, but if we assume these changes represent the move to the Intel 700 series chipset, then the upcoming Intel B760, H770 and Z790 motherboards will pivot towards providing more PCIe Gen4 lanes while trimming available PCIe Gen3 lanes. The final PCIe lane totals remain the same, but users probably won't complain about this rebalancing to newer, faster standards. Remember, these are maximum figures for the PCIe Gen3/4 lanes, so motherboard makers might implement slightly different options, depending on the product and target market. The above table also shows that users can expect the maximum number of USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 ports to increase from four to five, transitioning from Z690 to Z790. These are the fastest USB ports on the chipset, supporting up to 20 Gbps transfers. The H610 chipset won't get a 700 series replacement following the above table analysis logic. Intel 13th generation Core series processors, codenamed Raptor Lake, will launch later this year. Intel seems to be quite far along in development with this next generation, and we have seen several benchmarks and other leaks in recent weeks. Intel confirmed 600 series and 700 series desktop platforms would be cross-compatible. In other words, the LGA1700 motherboard you might already own and use for your Alder Lake CPU should be fully compatible with Raptor Lake chips. Our most recent news coverage regarding Intel Raptor Lake was precipitated by Intel's Investor Meeting 2022. Intel demoed a working desktop based upon its 13th Generation Core Raptor Lake processor at the event using Intel 7 process technology. Intel also gave a little teaser of the features and performance boost to expect (see above image).
