  3. Apple on Wednesday acknowledged its strict App Store policies saying that it blocked potentially fraudulent transactions worth around $1.5 billion (roughly Rs. 11,021 crore) last year. The Cupertino giant claimed that it wiped out over 1.6 million risky and vulnerable apps and app updates from defrauding users. In 2021, with the App Review process, apps from more than 107,000 new developers landed on the store. Apple rejected 34,000 apps for privacy violations, while 157,000 apps were rejected for being described as copycats or misleading users to make in-app purchases. The new announcement by the company comes at a time when the iPhone maker is facing scrutiny across the globe over its tight measures on the App Store. In a new post on its newsroom site, Apple detailed the efforts taken by the App Store throughout 2021 to prevent potentially fraudulent transactions on the platform. As per the report, Apple has blocked fraudulent transactions worth around $1.5 billion (roughly Rs. 11,021 crore) on the App Store and blocked over 1.6 million risky and vulnerable apps and app updates from defrauding users through the course of last year. The company affirmed that it used various measures including an App Review process that leverages machine learning and heuristics to discover and prevent frauds. Apple's multilayers App Review process was used to extract details about the apps' potential issues and violations. Under this process, every app and update were cross-checked to ensure that they follow the App Store's guidelines related to privacy, security, and spam. Apple claims that more than 107,000 new developers get their apps onto the store with App Review last year. Also, 835,000 apps and 805,000 app updates that are found to be problematic were banned. Developers of banned apps can file an appeal to the App Review Board. More than 157,000 apps were rejected for being copycats, misleading users, or mani[CENSORED]ting them into making in-app purchases. Similarly, over the same stretch of time, the App Review team of Apple halted more than 34,500 apps for including hidden or undocumented features. "Sometimes, nefarious developers try to circumvent App Review by creating an app that appears one way, only to alter its concept or functionality once it's been approved," said Apple, adding that it shut down over 155,000 apps from the App Store for these violations. Apple said it rejected over 343,000 apps last year for requesting more user data than necessary or mishandling data they already collected. Apple also revealed some figures concerning App Store reviews and ratings. The company said that it processed over 1 billion ratings and reviews in 2021 and blocked more than 94 million reviews and over 170 million ratings from publication. Around 610,000 reviews were taken down after publication over customer concerns. Further, it noted that it terminated over 802,000 developer accounts in 2021 over fraud concerns and rejected over 153,000 developer enrolments as well. Apple found and blocked over 63,500 illegitimate apps on pirate storefronts. Over 170 million customer accounts associated with fraudulent and abusive activity were deactivated during the period. Also, more than 118 million attempted account creations were refused in 2021 because they displayed patterns consistent with fraudulent and abusive activity. The tech giant banned over 3.3 million stolen cards from being used to make potentially fraudulent purchases on the platform and blocked nearly 600,000 accounts from transacting again.
  4. A new Google Drive update should make it easier to find out exactly where your key files are hiding. The cloud storage platform has announced it will be adding a new "Location" column that expands to show the exact full name and other information of your Google Drive files. In a blog post(opens in new tab) announcing the news Google said the new feature will make it easier for users to differentiate between similarly-named files stored in different locations, meaning you should be able to find exactly what you’re looking for at a much faster rate. Google Drive search The new Location column will sit alongside the existing name, owner, size and last modified fields found within the Search, Recent, Starred and Trash web views of Google Drive. Hovering over or clicking on the information will display the full location data, which acts as an alternative to the current method of right-clicking on a file and selecting "show file location", which can take you to a different window. The new feature is rolling out now, and will be enabled by default. It will be available to Google Workspace customers, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers. The update is the latest in a series of upgrades given to Google Drive in recent months as the company looks to make the platform more useful than ever for all users. This includes the introduction of “search chips” in Drive, which lets users filter search results using various different parameters, including file type, labels and last modified date. When searching for a file, users can now type in a key word, rather than the exact file name, in order to try and track down what they're looking for. The company also recently revealed that Google Drive will now allow admins to configure custom labels that can be applied to files housed within their organization’s domain, helping users categorize and organize content more easily, whilst also assisting with the file discovery process and guard against the deliberate misuse or accidental mishandling of sensitive files.
  5. Clevo has started to advertise its Clevo X270 notebook with Intel's range-topping Arc Alchemist A770M graphics processor, as noted by @9550pro(opens in new tab). The company calls the machine 'the first Intel CPU + GPU gaming laptop' and, judging by its configuration, positions it for demanding gamers, which may imply the somewhat competitive performance of the graphics processor. Clevo's X270(opens in new tab) is a 17.3-inch gaming notebook powered by Intel's 12th Gen Core 'Alder Lake-H' processor and the company's flagship Arc Alchemist(opens in new tab) A770M mobile GPU that is cooled down using a dual-fan cooling system featuring seven heat pipes and liquid metal. In addition, the machine comes with a premium Mini LED display panel from AU Optronics(opens in new tab) and has all the I/O ports that one comes to expect from a gaming PC (Ethernet, two TB4 ports, mDP, HDMI, USB 3.2 Gen 2, 3.5-mm audio, etc.). Clevo did not publish performance numbers for the machine. Still, it would be illogical for the company to equip a gaming laptop with mediocre performance with a rather expensive monitor, so we can make some guesses about what to expect from Clevo's X270. Perhaps, the most important thing about the gaming notebook is that it comes from Clevo. Clevo may not be a household name, but this manufacturer produces barebones laptops for well-known brands like Alienware, Eurocom, Gigabyte, Maingear, MSI, Sager, Schenker, XMG, and Xotic PC, to name a few. We do not know which of these gaming PC brands will use the Clevo X270 design with Intel's Alder Lake-H and Arc Alchemist A770M discrete mobile GPU, but the chances are that at least some of Clevo's over 35 clients will use this configuration are pretty high. Another thing that remains to be seen is how much Clevo's X270 and products on its base will cost. AUO's 17.3-inch panel is certainly not cheap, so we are talking about a premium product here. Still, since Intel is interested in capturing discrete GPU market share, it may offer its top-of-the-range Arc Alchemist A770M at a very competitive price.

  11. Discord, the po[CENSORED]r gamer-targeted chat platform, is finally adding a text channel to each voice channel in a server. The feature is aptly named “Text chat in voice channels,” because why complicate it? If you don’t know what this means, let us break it down. Discord servers are essentially big group chats with the ability to form other chats within the Discord server for specific purposes and communities. Communications primarily take place with text-based messages, but voice chat channels are also a big selling point. With these channels, anyone can drop in or drop out at any time without having to host a room, as they do in other meeting apps like Skype and Zoom. If, for instance, someone in a voice channel wants to send a YouTube video link to other people in the voice chat, the link often gets sent to the “general” text channel or a channel specifically for chats pertaining to that voice channel, like a text-based “voice-chat-spam” channel. With Text in voice channels, each voice channel has its own text channel attached to it. Whether you’re in that voice channel or not, you’ll be able to access the text channel as you would a normal text channel. The aim of the new feature is organization; in larger servers (group chats with many members) not everyone wants notifications for every new message, and messages for people using a voice channel can get lost among other messages. Using the new feature, servers will be less cluttered, and participants in a voice call will have an easier time sharing things with each other. Text channels in voice channels will function the same way as normal text channels, with access to emojis, Giphy, and reactions. During voice calls and when the chat isn't open, new text messages will show a small popup at the top of the screen. Discord has made Text chat in voice channels available to all non-community servers as of today. If you don’t know whether or not a server you made is a community server, it probably isn’t. Community servers will need to opt-in to the feature, at least until June 29, when all community servers will have it enabled by default.
  12. At the International Supercomputer (ISC 2022) trade show, HPE demonstrated blade systems that will power two exascale supercomputers set to come online this year — Frontier and Aurora. Unfortunately, HPE had to use sophisticated and power-hungry hardware to get unprecedented computing performance. Hence, both machines use liquid cooling, but even massive water blocks cannot hide some interesting design peculiarities the blades feature. Both Frontier and Aurora supercomputers are built by HPE using its Cray EX architecture. While the machines leveraged AMD and Intel hardware, respectively, they use high-performance x86 CPUs to run general tasks, and GPU-based compute accelerators to run highly parallel supercomputing and AI workloads. The Frontier supercomputer builds upon HPE's Cray EX235a nodes(opens in new tab) powered by two AMD's 64-core EPYC 'Trento' processors featuring the company's Zen 3 microarchitecture enhanced with 3D V-Cache and optimized for high clocks. The Frontier Blades also come with eight of AMD's Instinct MI250X accelerators(opens in new tab) featuring 14,080 stream processors and 128GB of HBM2E memory. Each node offers peak FP64/FP32 vector performance of around 383 TFLOPS and peak 765 FP64/FP32 matrix performance of approximately 765 TFLOPS. Both CPUs and compute GPUs used by HPE's Frontier blade use a unified liquid cooling system with two nozzles on the front of the node. The Aurora blade(opens in new tab) is currently called just like that, carries an Intel badge, and does not have HPE's Cray Ex model number yet, possibly because it still needs some polishing. HPE's Aurora Blades utilize two Intel Xeon Scalable 'Sapphire Rapids' processors with over 40 cores and 64GB of HBM2E memory per socket (in addition to DDR5 memory). The nodes also feature six of Intel's Ponte Vecchio(opens in new tab) accelerators, but Intel is quiet about the exact specifications of these beasts that pack over 100 billion transistors each(opens in new tab). One thing that catches the eye with the Aurora blade set to be used with the 2 ExaFLOPS Aurora supercomputers(opens in new tab) is mysterious black boxes with a triangular 'hot surface' sign located next to Sapphire Rapids CPUs and Ponte Vecchio compute GPUs. We do not know what they are, but they may be modular sophisticated power supply circuitry for additional flexibility. After all, back in the day, VRMs were removable(opens in new tab), so using them for highly power-hungry components might make some sense even today (assuming that the correct voltage tolerances are met), especially with pre-production hardware. Again, the Aurora blade uses liquid cooling for its CPUs and GPUs, though this cooling system is entirely different from the one used by Frontier blades. Intriguingly, it looks like Ponte Vecchio compute GPUs in the Aurora blade use different water blocks than Intel demonstrated(opens in new tab) a few weeks ago though we can only wonder about possible reasons for that. Interestingly, the DDR5 memory modules Intel-based blade uses come with rather formidable heat spreaders that look bigger than those used on enthusiast-grade memory modules. Keeping in mind that DDR5 RDIMMs also carry a power management IC and voltage regulating module, they naturally need better cooling than DDR4 sticks, especially in space-constrained environments like blade servers.

  18. Microsoft is preparing an update for its Outlook email service that will solve an unnecessary headache for iOS users. As explained in a new entry(opens in new tab) to the company’s product roadmap, Outlook for iOS will soon allow users to choose whether to share images as attachments or embed them in the message body. Historically, the only available option has been to embed images within messages, with obvious effects on readability, especially when attempting to send multiple photos at once. Microsoft Outlook update Microsoft Outlook has for many years been a central part of people’s professional and personal lives, but the way the service is consumed has changed over time. Increasingly, people access their email on mobile platforms, a trend likely accelerated by the transition to hybrid working. It follows, then, that the iOS and Android versions of Outlook should be equipped with identical functionality to the desktop application. In some instances, the smaller screen real estate means this is not feasible, but the inability to attach photos to email messages on mobile is tough to explain. Scheduled to roll out by the end of June, the upcoming Outlook update will at least remedy the issue for Apple customers, making it easier to send multiple photos (either from the local gallery or cloud storage) without impacting the reading experience. TechRadar Pro has asked Microsoft whether Android users can expect to benefit from a similar update in the near future. Beyond the image attachments upgrade, Microsoft has been busy working on a significant overhaul for Outlook on Windows 11. Referred to as “One Outlook”, the new-look email client is designed to unify the company’s various productivity tools - email, calendaring, to-do lists etc. - under a single platform. The client also features deeper support for Microsoft Loop, a service that lets users collaborate on portable data widgets across Microsoft 365 apps. The eventual goal is probably to bring One Outlook to all major platforms, which would address the current discrepancies in user experience across desktop and mobile.
  19. ASRock has revealed five upcoming X670 and X670E motherboards on its main site, including the X670E Taichi Carrara, Taichi, Steel Legend, Pro RS, and the X670 PG Lightning. All five boards will serve as ASRock's introduction into the AM5 platform and are designed to run AMD's upcoming Ryzen 7000 series processors. The newest entry in ASRock's lineup is the X670E Taichi Carrara. This board appears to be nothing more than an outfit change over the vanilla X670E Taichi, with general specifications being identical between the two motherboards. The Carrara sub-variant features a rather extravagant looking white marble top spread out over the entire bottom and rear I/O section of the motherboard. This design is accompanied by a matte black finish in the top and top-right sections of the motherboard, paired with a line of RGB LEDs to the bottom right. This design is a huge departure from the Taichi aesthetic we're used to seeing. If you didn't see the board's name at all, you would think it's an entirely different motherboard model from ASRock. The standard X670E Taichi sticks to its roots and takes design queues from all of ASRock's previous Taichi models. However, unlike previous designs, the X670E Taichi is the most mature-looking design with the least amount of bling and graphics ever on a Taichi board. The board is doused in a pure black finish from top to bottom, featuring both matte black and glossy black finishes. To keep the board true to its predecessors, it features gold and silver accents all around the board's edges and features gear-like icons on the chipset cooler and rear I/O panel. Both the Taichi and Taichi Carrara boards feature identical core specifications, including an X670E chipset, dual PCIe x16 5.0 slots (one with 8 lanes), and a beefy 26 Phase SPS power delivery system being the primary key points. I/O connectivity includes a plethora of ports, with two USB Type-C ports that serve as either Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 connectors, a single front USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C port, five rear USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, and seven USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports with four of those designed for front I/O. Audio comes in the form of a Realtek ALC4082 audio codec, assisted by an ESS Sabre 9218 DAC. Internet connectivity comes in the form of a killer E3100G 2.5Gbps ethernet port and a Killer AX1675X Wi-Fi 6E wireless module. Storage solutions are extensive, including a single M.2 Gen5 slot, dual M.2 PCIe Gen4 slots, and a single M.2 slot that can run either PCIe Gen 4 or SATA 6Gbps based SSDs, for a total of four M.2 slots. On top of this, both boards also feature eight SATA connectors for standard SATA-based hard drives and SSDs. For now, it appears the Taichi and Taichi Carrara will both serve as ASRock's flagship motherboards on the AM5 platform with the only differences being aesthetics, though it's possible ASRock will position the Carrara at an even higher price point. X670E Steel Legend The next motherboard on the list is the X670E Steel Legend. Not much is known about this board, but it should be one of ASRock's cheapest gaming motherboards packing the X670E chipset if it serves the same role as the previous generation X570 Steel Legend. Unfortunately, ASRock has only listed a few general specifications and no listing image to speak of, so we have no idea what this board looks like. According to the product page, it will be a substantial downgrade compared to its Taichi counterparts. Specs for the Steel Legend include a single PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, with Realtek ALC 1220 audio codec paired to Nahimic Audio software. M.2 storage comes in the form of a single PCIe Gen5 slot, and all that's known about the USB ports is that there will be USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C connectivity. Finally, network connectivity consists of a Dragon 2.5Gbps LAN port and an unknown Wi-Fi 6E module. We should know more details once ASRock gets around to finishing the product pages of all its AM5 motherboards. X670E Pro RS The final X670E chipset motherboard in ASRock's lineup is the X670E Pro RS, which is ASRock's first AM5 motherboard aimed at professional users. Thankfully we have a product image to reference, however specs again are very vague. The most interesting feature about the X670E Pro RS is its PCIe slot setup. The board forgoes the addition of a secondary x16 slot entirely, giving users only a single primary x16 5.0 slot to play with. The only other PCIe slots on the board are a pair of x1 slots for small add-in cards. We believe ASRock made this change to save cost, since PCIe 5.0 is very expensive to implement on a motherboard with its extremely high bandwidth requirements. On the flip side, ASRock is able to use the additional room to give users two more M.2 slots covered by a very long M.2 heatsink. That gives the board a total of five M.2 slots, plus a sixth if you count the M.2 WiFi slot. Aesthetically the board features the same color scheme as ASRock's older Pro SKUs with a black and grey finish. Overall, it fits the design language of a professional mainboard of being stealthy and fitting into the environment with its color-neutral tone. General specifications are largely the same as the Steel Legend with a Dragon 2.5Gbps LAN port, and USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C connectivity. The only note-worthy change is the use of the rather outdated ALC897 Realtek Audio codec. X670 PG Lightning Last but not least is ASRock's only currently announced X670 motherboard called the X670 PG Lighting. Unfortunately, ASRock has again neglected to include a product image like the Steel Legend, so we don't know what the board will look like. The current spec sheet is even vaguer than the previous product pages of the other AM5 motherboards. All we know is the board will feature HDMI and DisplayPort outputs, an ALC 897 audio codec, USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C connectivity, and a Dragon 2.5Gbps network port. That's it. However, we can make some assumptions based on previous PG (Phantom Gaming) models about where this board will lie in ASRock's lineup. PG has traditionally been ASRock's midrange gaming motherboard lineup, with slightly better features and power delivery systems than the Steel Legend series, and slightly fewer features than the Taichi motherboards. We expect the X670 PG Lighting to fill in that same role on the AM5 platform. ASRock has always had a higher tier PG motherboard as well, with either a flagship AMD or Intel chipset, so we should expect ASRock to come up with an X670E variant of the Lighting sometime in the future.
