  3. Nothing Phone 1 is set to launch on July 12 in an upcoming event. Now, Nothing, the smartphone brand, has confirmed that the company's first smartphone will get the Glyph Interface that will let enable the LED lights placed at the back of the handset to glow when it receives notifications, phone calls, or when on charge. Nothing has also reportedly confirmed that the smartphone will not launch in the US and Canada as the company is currently focusing on the UK and European markets. In a blog post on the company website, Nothing has confirmed that the new Nothing Phone 1 will launch with the Glyph Interface that will enable the rear LED light functions for calls, notifications, and battery charging percentage indication. The lights at the back of the phone are synced to flash in unique patterns to every custom sound. The flashing pattern of the LED lights will let users know who the call or the notification is from by pairing individual contacts to a particular ringtone and a Glyph pattern. At the bottom of the Nothing Phone 1, there is a LED light bar. The light bar shows the battery charge percentage and also indicates that the smartphone is plugged in. The lights indicating the battery percentage only flash for a few seconds but users can shake the handset to make it light up again. There is a red light in the right top corner that flashes when a recording is on. User can also set a daily timer for the Glyph to turn off when not in need. These features help the users to avoid looking at their screens continuously. Through the Glyph Interface, users can also toggle back to the sound-only feature and also flip the smartphone to turn on the silent mode with lights-only notifications. According to a report from PCMag, it has been confirmed that the Nothing Phone 1 will not be launching in the US and Canadian markets for now as the company currently wants to focus on the home markets, including the UK and Europe. The company reportedly said, “It takes a lot to launch a smartphone as you know, from ensuring the handset is supported by the country's cellular technologies to carrier partnerships and local regulation, and as we're still a young brand we need to be strategic about it." The smartphone is reportedly only going to be available to a limited number of Nothing's private community investors in the US. The company has recently announced that it will be launching the Nothing Phone 1 on July 12 through a virtual event called ‘Return to Instinct' that will begin at 8:30pm IST. The virtual event will be livestreamed on Nothing's official YouTube channel. Nothing Phone 1 has reportedly been approved by the TUV SUD safety certification. The accessories of the smartphone have been tipped to be available on Flipkart as an internal code is said to have mentioned the listing of the cases and covers of the handset on the e-commerce website. The company had earlier announced that it will auction off a few units of the Nothing Phone 1 in collaboration with StockX. The smartphone has reportedly received approval from the BIS India certification as well.
  4. Adobe has introduced a series of updates and features to Premiere Pro designed to speed up the work of video editors and social media creators. The video editing software now features streamlined workspaces, proxy improvements, new gradient effects, and better encoding on Apple M1 devices. Available now to Adobe Creative Cloud subscribers, Premiere Pro’s June 2022 release(opens in new tab) focuses on creating more efficient workflows, while adding performance-enhancing tools and support. Adobe Premiere Pro upgrades The latest update sees the unveiling of the Essentials and Vertical Video workspaces. Optimized to create more efficient workflows, these spaces feature simplified interfaces and access to key functions. So, users will no longer need to switch between workspaces to find the tools they need. The Essentials workspace, a general editor space designed for use on single-screens and video editing laptops, orders panels left-to-right and features a large timeline at the foot of the screen. The new Vertical Video workspace offers a similar experience, specifically built for social media creators working in the 9:16 aspect ratio. There have been a handful of improvements to the proxy workflow experience, too. Proxies - small, lower resolution video clips used as a stand-in for the raw, source footage - can now be identified using the new Proxy badges. Users can even burn-in proxy watermarks, to ensure they don’t slip through the net. Adobe also announced, “proxy files now default to ProRes format, which is a better format to use when working with proxies.” On the graphics side, users can now add linear and radial gradients to strokes and shadows - a po[CENSORED]r technique in Japanese and Korean videos. The video editor now packs more GPU-accelerated effects, including Magnify and Wave Warp, with Adobe promising that better performance, playback, and rendering from the GPU-powered processing. Elsewhere, Premiere Pro has received RED V-Raptor camera support and improved H264/HEVC encoding on Apple M1 machines. With the latest release, Adobe says, “the bit rate of the H264/HEVC encoded files on Apple M1 systems is now as good as the bit rate of encoded files on Mac Intel systems.” The Premiere Pro June updates are out now.
  5. We already knew AMD would power the world’s fastest supercomputer - the US Department of Energy (DOE) El Capitan. Expected to be installed in 2023 at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), the HPE-built system initially leveraged AMD’s Zen 4 CPU cores and MI Instinct GPU accelerators, unlocking unheard-of performance above the 2 Exaflop mark. Yet there’s something that the initial announcement didn’t say: the system won’t be leveraging disparate CPU and GPU accelerators. Instead, confirming our speculation, El Capitan will be leveraging AMD’s recently-announced MI 300 Accelerated Processing Units (APUs). It marks the first time an APU is a supercomputer’s central processing grunt (opens in new tab)- and at Exascale, no less. “It’s the first time we’ve publicly stated this,” said associate director for HPC (High Performance Computing) at LLNL, Terri Quinn. In a world-first disclosure in a presentation delivered today to the 79th HPC User Forum at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), he added that the information came straight from the source: “I cut these words out of [AMD’s] investors document, and that’s what it says: it’s a 3D chiplet design with AMD CDNA3 GPUs, Zen 4 CPUs, cache memory and HBM chiplets.” AMD’s MI300 APUs will feature CPU and GPU chiplets in the same 3D-enabled packaging with a coherent, HBM3 memory architecture, powered by the company’s 4th generation Infinity Fabric and next generation Infinity Cache. Leveraging both Zen 4 and the CDNA 3 graphics acceleration architecture, MI300 APUs will leverage TSMC’s 5nm process technology (likely N5 or N5P). However, the balance of CPU and GPU cores per APU is still a wild guess. Being APUs, El Capitan will benefit from what’s likely to be the densest performance profile ever achieved in the world of supercomputing. Make no mistake: El Capitan will represent the pinnacle of semiconductor performance, design, and integration. It’s not hyperbolic to say that it’s likely to be one of humanity’s most technologically complex endeavors. It is all thanks to tightly-packaged AMD APUs, bundled into HPE Cray XE racks and tied together with Cray’s Slingshot-11 networking, powered by its 16 nanometer Rosetta controllers that can dish out 200 Gb/sec interconnects. The form factor and the number of accelerators per rack is still question mark. When push comes to shove, Frontier should also become one of the most energy-efficient systems (if not the most efficient), with operating power limited to 40 MW for an optimal performance/power balance. Workloads will run through El Capitan’s circuits starting from 2Q 2024, with the planned end of life set for 2030. AMD’s continued roll into the Top500 list of the world’s most powerful supercomputers keeps advancing at a breakneck pace. The company is steamrolling Intel’s previous dominance, already scoring five out of the world’s top ten supercomputers - including first place, thanks to Frontier - against Intel’s single Xeon-based system powering China’s Tianhe-2A, currently ranking ninth(opens in new tab). The company has come a long way from its infamous and nearly company-breaking Steamroller architecture family. Not all news is bad news for Intel, however, as the company too has earned an Exascale contract with the Argonne National Laboratory. The Aurora supercomputer, too, will be a 2-exaflops HPE-Intel system that has undergone several revisions already. Aurora’s installation is already underway, albeit the exact date it enters operation is still unclear. Intel’s delays on its Sapphire Rapids CPUs have already pushed the supercomputer’s installation, so it remains to be seen how long the execution will take. Nvidia, too has a relevant presence in the world’s top-performing systems, although it currently only operates in the GPU provider space, scoring three systems powered by its GPUs. But it recently achieved an essential contract as a provider of both CPUs and GPUs for MareNostrum 5, to be installed in the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC) in Spain. The operation could commence as early as 2023. Sadly, Nvidia has already taken the “Superchip” nomenclature with its Arm-based Grace CPU product for High-Performance Computing (HPC) deployments. So perhaps AMD should be looking to claim an “Überchip” already?
  6. Musician Name: Elvis Presley Birthday / Location: January 8, 1935 Tupelo, Mississippi US Main instrument: Rock and roll pop rockabilly country gospel R&B blues Musician Picture: Musician Awards & Nominations:- Best Performance: - Other Information: Elvis Aaron Presley [note 1] (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977) was an American singer, musician, and actor. Nicknamed the "King of Rock and Roll", or simply "The King", he is considered one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century. With a string of successful television appearances, and chart-topping hits, he became the leading figure in rock and roll. Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, in the United States, he moved with his family to Memphis, Tennessee, when he was 13 years old. His music career began in 1954, recording at Sun Records with producer Sam Phillips, who wanted to bring the sound of African-American music to a wider audience. Accompanied by guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, he was a pioneer of rockabilly, a fusion of country music and rhythm and blues. In 1955, drummer D. J. Fontana joined the team and completed the singer's classic quartet, the Jordanaires, and record label RCA Victor acquired his contract in a deal arranged by Colonel Tom Parker, who would go on to manage him for more than two years. decades. His first single with RCA, "Heartbreak Hotel", was released in January 1956 and became a number one hit in the United States. In November 1956, Presley made his film debut in Love Me Tender. Drafted into the military in 1958, he relaunched his music career two years later with some of his most commercially successful work. However, he performed few concerts, and under Parker, devoted much of the 1960s to making films and soundtracks, most of which were not well received by critics. In 1968, after a seven-year hiatus from performing live, he returned to the stage in the acclaimed Elvis television special, which led to an extended Las Vegas residency and a series of highly profitable tours. In 1973, he became the first solo artist to have a show broadcast around the world, Aloha from Hawaii. Years of prescription drug abuse seriously compromised his health, and he died suddenly in 1977 at his estate, Graceland, at the age of 42. His energetic interpretations of the songs and his sexually provocative performance style, combined with a uniquely potent mix of influences beyond the color barrier during a transformative era in race relations, made him enormously po[CENSORED]r and controversial. He is the best-selling solo artist in music history. He also achieved commercial success in many genres, including pop, country, blues, and gospel. Elvis won three competitive Grammys, received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36, and was inducted into multiple Halls of Fame. The singer holds several records, including the most RIAA certified gold and platinum albums, the most albums on the Billboard 200, the most number-one singles by a solo artist on the UK Albums Chart, and the most number-one singles on the UK Singles Chart. 10. Japan is tracking eight Russian and Chinese warships near its territory. (Top photo: The People's Liberation Army destroyer Lhasa, in an image released by Japan's Ministry of Defense.) At least eight Russian and Chinese warships were spotted in the seas near Japan this week, in another sign of the apparent pressure the two partners have been exerting on Tokyo as relations deteriorate over Ukraine and Ukraine, respectively. Taiwan. Japan's Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that its forces had observed five Russian warships, led by an anti-submarine destroyer, sailing through the Tsushima Strait, which separates Japan from South Korea. The Russian fleet of five ships has been near Japanese islands for a week, from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south, the ministry said in a press release. Meanwhile, at least two Chinese warships and a supply ship were sighted on Tuesday in the Izu Islands, about 500 kilometers south of the capital, Tokyo. One such ship appeared to be the Lhasa, a Type 55 guided missile destroyer and one of China's most powerful surface ships. The Ministry said the group had been operating in waters close to Japan since June 12. "This is an obvious show of strength from both Russia and China," says James Brown, an associate professor of political science at Temple University in Tokyo. "These activities constitute a major concern for Japan." Not least, following the movements of both Russian and Chinese military forces puts pressure on the resources of the Japan Self-Defense Forces." There was no claim from Tokyo that the Russian and Chinese naval groups were coordinating their actions, as happened last October, when a total of 10 Russian and Chinese warships jointly participated in exercises in which they circumnavigated much of the Japanese archipelago. More recently, when Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida hosted a summit of the leaders of the United States, Australia and India in Tokyo, Chinese and Russian air forces conducted joint strategic air patrols over the Sea of Japan, the East China Sea and the Western Pacific Ocean, in what the Chinese Defense Ministry called part of an annual program of military cooperation. According to Brown, Kishida's hosting of the summit was just one reason why Beijing wanted to show its displeasure with Tokyo. "Beijing was outraged by Japanese statements about Taiwan's security, which the Chinese Communist Party considers an internal matter," says Brown. In fact, it was at the Tokyo summit that President Joe Biden said that the United States would intervene militarily if China tried to take Taiwan by force. The White House later backed down on that comment, but the US maintains a powerful military presence in Japan - troops that could come into play in any conflict over Taiwan. Taiwan and mainland China have been ruled separately since the defeated nationalists retreated to the island at the end of the Chinese civil war more than 70 years ago. But the ruling Chinese Communist Party sees the self-governing island as part of its territory - despite never having controlled it. Beijing has not ruled out using military force to take Taiwan, and Japan sees the conflict across the Taiwan Straits as a threat to its security. Meanwhile, Moscow was outraged by Tokyo's support for Ukraine after Russian forces invaded its European neighbor nearly four months ago, says Brown. That support included imposing sanctions on Moscow and expelling Russian diplomats. “Russia therefore wants to use its military power to intimidate Japan, in the hope that this will dissuade Tokyo from imposing more such measures,” says Brown. Brown describes the fact that this week's naval actions by Russia and China do not appear to be coordinated as a "gilding the pill" for Tokyo. "Japan's strategic nightmare is a genuine alliance between Russia and China," he concludes. 11. I was surfing the internet normally, and I see a news about russia Russian and Chinese warships sighted near Japan (when the pressure seems to build). 15. Accessing PDF files in Microsoft Teams should soon be a lot easier thanks to a new update for the video conferencing platform. Microsoft has announced it is working on making the PDF experience much smoother for users of the po[CENSORED]r Adobe Acrobat tool. Namely, Microsoft Teams admins will soon be able to set Adobe Acrobat as the default PDF editor app, removing the annoying headaches and frustrations currently caused each time a user needs to open one of the files. Microsoft Teams and Adobe Acrobat In its entry on the official Microsoft 365 roadmap(opens in new tab), the update is still set as being in development, with an expected public launch of September 2022. Microsoft notes that the change will allow admins to tweak the current PDF preferences in the Teams admin center, allowing users to view and edit files using Adobe Acrobat as the default. The company notes that it hopes to have a preview of the update ready for this month, and will launch the tool across all Microsoft Teams users on Mac, Web and desktop versions of the platform. The news is the latest productivity update added to Microsoft Teams as the company looks to ensure it remains a useful hybrid working(opens in new tab) tool. This includes the recent addition of updates largely aimed around improving the audio quality on Microsoft Teams calls using AI and machine learning. In what will be welcome news for many Microsoft Teams users, the new updates, the result of using a machine learning model trained on 30,000 hours of speech samples, include echo cancellation, better adjusting audio in poor acoustic environments, and allowing users to speak and hear at the same time without interruptions. The company is also reportedly aiming to bring so-called "Microsoft Teams 2.0(opens in new tab)" to enterprise devices soon, having previously only limited it to consumer accounts. Directly integrated into Windows 11's new Chat app, Microsoft Teams 2.0 supports calling, messaging, audio controls, meeting management and native Windows notifications, and also now lets users resize windows and quote replies directly from the conversation tab.
  16. Contrary to po[CENSORED]r belief, the best SSDs for Valve's Steam Deck aren't the ones with the fastest performance or the biggest capacity. That's right. The best SSD for the handheld gaming console is one that fits. The Steam Deck has an M.2 2230 slot to house M.2 NVMe SSDs. While there are M.2 2230 SSDs on the market, it's not one of the widespread form factors such as M.2 2280. However, Twitter user Belly Jelly(opens in new tab) has discovered a way to expand the M.2 2230 slot to an M.2 2242 slot, opening the door to more SSD options. The resourceful Steam Deck owner ordered some small M.2 adapters to modify the device's standard M.2 slot. With the 30mm to 42m adapter, he could extend the slot's length to house the longer 2242 SSDs. Belly Jelly noted that the Steam Deck's PCB was generous to allow him to adapt the M.2 2230 slot into an M.2 2242 one. His simple mod didn't interfere with any electronic components on the PCB or strain the cables. The only caveat was that the mod made the heat spreader bend slightly; however, it didn't stop him from reassembling the back plate. He highlighted that he had to remove a thermal pad on top of one of the inductors by the M.2 slot. Belly Jelly didn't specify which M.2 2242 SSD he had installed in his Steam Deck, but the photograph partially reveals a KingSpec logo. The drive could be one of the brand's NE-series units with 3D TLC NAND and sequential read and write speeds up to 2,100 MBps and 1,000 MBps, respectively. The Twitter user's experiment produced positive results as he could reinstall SteamOS and download his games onto the SSD. In addition, he reported average write speeds up to 406 MBps during installation once his download was completed. Although the SSD inside the Steam Deck is user replaceable, DIYers must pay attention to specific parameters. Valve designed the Steam Deck to work with one particular SSD. Therefore, replacing it with an aftermarket unit could affect the handheld console's performance. According to Valve's guidelines, users must pay close attention to the power consumption of the SSD. If a third-party SSD draws more power than the stock SSD, users could experience overheating and reduced battery life. Valve placed the M.2 2230 slot very close to the wireless module. The company has tested various SSDs to find one that doesn't interfere with the Steam Deck's wireless and Bluetooth connection. An aftermarket SSD could have a different emission pattern that might degrade wireless performance. Other aspects include the mechanical and assembly elements of the SSD. Valve has placed components underneath the SSD, and a different drive may interfere with the components. Furthermore, the company states that a particular screw holds down the thermal module onto the AMD SoC and the board shield. Removing it could potentially affect the thermal module's performance. Swapping the SSD inside the Steam Deck doesn't seem like an easy task. However, DIYer Belly Jelly was seemingly successful in his attempt, though he hasn't reported any battery life or other testing before and after the upgrade. It may work fine, but there may also be some unexpected bugs or other issues using his aftermarket M.2 2242 SSD mod. Proceed with caution, in other words.

  22. Windows 11 has a neat new privacy tool which is now in testing, and allows you to see what applications have recently accessed sensitive bits of hardware like your webcam. The Privacy Auditing feature was shown off on Twitter, by Microsoft’s VP for Enterprise and OS Security, David Weston, and it’s present in a new preview build of Windows 11 (being tested in the Dev Channel, where the earliest preview versions of the OS are put through their paces). The feature nestles under Settings (in Privacy & security > App permissions), where you can view a list of recent activity to see, for example, which apps have accessed your microphone in the past week, or maybe your camera, another obvious point of call for checking up on any potentially suspicious activity. It also keeps tabs on applications which have accessed your contacts, or details relating to your location, phone calls and more. In each instance, the user is also told the exact time and date of the access made to the hardware or function in question. Analysis: A useful way to keep an eye on your applications It’s good to see that the coverage provided here is pretty wide-ranging in terms of keeping tabs on various sensitive bits and bobs, from the obvious cameras and mics, through to contacts and other such details. This is great info to have in terms of transparency relating to what the software on your system is getting up to. Periodically checking through the privacy audits present in Settings could potentially yield some interesting findings, flagging up apps that you wouldn’t have otherwise known had got their claws into some more sensitive aspects of your system (or highlighting something malicious that has flown under the radar, even). Microsoft has long had a troubled reputation for privacy when it comes to Windows, particularly since Windows 10 came along, so it’s also good to see the software giant taking a positive step forward on this front – one that should help Windows 11 users maintain a better level of vigilance and overall security when it comes to their PC. Assuming the feature makes it past the testing stage, of course...
  23. Is it that time already? Every three weeks we get an insight into European graphic card pricing trends and insight from 3DCenter. The latest survey data, which considers a host of prices across Germany and Austria, marks a milestone this time around as the average AMD graphics card is now 5% cheaper than MSRP. Nvidia's cards have kept a tentative grip on MSRP+ pricing, with the green team's average graphics card at 2% above MSRP. The last time we reported on the 3DCenter data, three weeks ago, we noted that graphics cards were slowly descending to their MSRPs. The averages were helped by some big price cuts to premium products, but some 'core offerings' remained stubbornly overpriced, by as much as 30%. In the latest survey there is still imbalance in pricing. These prices are focused on European countries, but they give us a general insight into which direction they are going. Probably the worst place to be as a GPU buyer in late June 2022 is one looking for the traditional sweet spots for good value performance gaming from the best GPUs. Those pondering buying an AMD GPU will see that the most 'overpriced' examples are centered around the Radeon RX 6600 (~20% over MSRP). Nvidia fans will find the most 'overpriced' GPUs are the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (17%), RTX 3060 (11%), and RTX 3050 (13%). Of course these prices are the result of supply and demand, which indicates people are still willing to pay more for this level of performance, or shortages persist across these mainstream products. If it is indeed shortages keeping the mainstream gaming cards over MSRP, by the time of the next survey there could be some more dramatic movements. The Tom's Hardware graphics editor Jarred Walton is of the firm opinion that the GPU deluge has begun. The phenomena we are observing now is largely due to the collapse of cryptocurrencies as speculative capital takes flight to less risky assets. This follows typical investor / speculator behavior when faced with a recession. If you are interested, please check out our article with logic and reasoning backing up our assertion that things are starting to go south rapidly in the GPU market. Our article on the GPU deluge includes consideration of both new and used graphics card prices (data from June 15). For extra fuel on the GPU pricing bonfire, please also consider that the next gen GPUs from AMD and Nvidia are expected to launch within the next four months. Traditionally, tech markets go cool ahead of a refresh, causing retailers and used sellers to cut prices deeper.
