  1. Microsoft has started rolling out the June update for its dual-screen Surface Duo 2 handset. This update is about 736MB in size and brings this foldable smartphone up to firmware version 2022.418.98. It adds third-party application support to the Glance Bar that allows users to check for notifications when the Surface Duo 2 is folded. This update also adds improved functionality for the Slim Pen 2. Apart from these improvements, the June update introduces a few other new features and general performance upgrades. According to the information available on the Microsoft support page for the Surface Duo 2, the Glance Bar will now show notifications from third-party messaging apps. Prior to this update, the Glance Bar only showed SMS, voicemail, and Microsoft Teams alerts. With the June update, the Slim Pen 2 will receive an automatic firmware upgrade when paired to the handset over Bluetooth. It will enable the Slim Pen 2 to automatically pair with the Surface Duo 2 when being used on either screen. For the automatic pairing to work, users have to ensure that their Slim Pen 2 is updated to firmware version 5.133.139 or later and software version 5.148.139 or later. Furthermore, the Camera app will now have the option to enable haptic feedback control in the settings. The Surface Duo 2 will now offer an improved camera experience in the dual-screen mode for applications with dynamic orientation. This update also optimises charging by allowing the battery to charge gradually overnight which is expected to prevent the battery from ageing quickly. Furthermore, Device Firmware Configuration Interface (DFCI) is now supported to control device usage. The update also brings general performance, stability, camera usability, and touch responsiveness improvements. To recall, the Surface Duo 2 was launched in September last year. It features two 5.8-inch PixelSense displays that offer a combined viewing experience of 8.3-inch when unfolded. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC and packs a 4449mAh battery.
  2. If you're looking for a different email option to the usual Gmail and Microsoft Outlook offerings, a new service is here from Vivaldi. The browser maker has announced the launch of Vivaldi Mail 1.0, which much like its more illustrious rivals, is an email client built directly into your browser. However, the company has looked to help its new release stand out from the crowd with a number of features that it hopes will attract consumer and enterprise customers alike. Vivaldi Mail 1.0 "Vivaldi Mail is an ode to the original, simple, and reliable form of communication. And we hope you will enjoy using it as much as we have enjoyed building it for you,” said Vivaldi CEO, Jon von Tetzchner. “Email can at times be chaotic and messy, but Vivaldi Mail is the partner you need to get the job done – keeping your mail organized and easy to navigate.” The company says it designed Vivaldi Mail, available now on Windows, Mac and Linux computers, around "speed, elegance, and...customization", looking to provide users with the chance to make the service their own. This includes Vivaldi Calendar and Vivaldi Feed Reader, giving you a one-stop portal for your schedules, to-do lists, news feeds and more along with your emails. Users can combine all their email accounts - including Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo Mail - and manage them from within Vivaldi Mail, where they can then be classified and searched through to help locate messages quickly. Emails are also indexed, meaning users can search through them when offline, with prefetched mails indexed before they are opened. Vivaldi looks to offer a range of customization options when it comes to folders and views, with the option to automatically place mails into different views, meaning it can appear across different folders if desired. Different views can be toggled on or off via buttons and a search bar at the top, with seven central options available - Show Read, Show Custom Folders, Show Mailing lists, Show Feeds, Show Junk, Show Archive, and Show Trash. Although all active by default, users can turn specific selections on or off, meaning they shouldn't ever miss an important email. There's also sixteen configurable shortcuts for activities such as composing new emails, replying to emails, and more, and the option to change between several different layouts depending on your preference. New users can access the service by downloading the Vivaldi browser now, with existing users able to activate the new addition by clicking on Settings > General > Productivity features > Enable Mail, Calendar and Feeds.
  3. MSI has created another GeForce RTX 3090 Ti under the Black Trio(opens in new tab)moniker. This AIB partner card separates itself from the rest of MSI’s 3090 Ti lineup by featuring a fully blacked-out color scheme. Core specifications, however, remain identical to the Gaming Trio variant. Pricing of the Black Trio retails for $1.906 in Japan(opens in new tab) (via momomo_us(opens in new tab)), but official pricing and availability in America are unknown. At first glance, it almost appears that MSI duplicated EVGA’s Black branding; however, this is not the case. Contrary to EVGA, MSI’s GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Black Trio is the company’s only fully blacked-out GeForce RTX 3090 Ti so far. The entire graphics card, from top to bottom, is coated in a matte black finish, with no RGB lighting in sight. It is a direct contrast to the vanilla Gaming Trio, including RGB lighting and a mix of black and silver accents. The GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Black Trio is an excellent alternative to the flashy flagship Nvidia AIB partner cards we are used to seeing. Its stealthy approach suits gamers who prefer function over form or like black-themed PC builds. Besides the drastic change in color format, the MSI GeForce RTX Black Trio is identical to the standard model. Featuring the same clock speeds and, of course, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GPU, with its impressive 10,752 CUDA cores and 24GB of VRAM. In addition, the triple-fan Tri-Frozr 2 cooler design remains the same, with three Torx 4 fans and a thick triple-slot form factor. Strangely, however, the only tangible difference between the two variants is in weight, with the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Black Trio weighing a measly 13 grams less than the Gaming Trio. Presumably, this very minute weight difference is related to the Black Trio’s lack of integrated LED RGB lighting and the change to black plastic accents instead of silver. Either way, this minute weight difference is entirely unnoticeable. Again, we still don’t have official details on pricing or availability for the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Black Trio. But, with the Gaming Trio variant costing $1,949 on Amazon(opens in new tab) at the time of this writing, the Black version should cost less.

The singer described herself as a "gangsta Nancy Sinatra". Artistically, she claims to be influenced by what she considers to be the masters of every genre of music — including Elvis Presley, Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin, Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, Axl Rose, Bruce Springsteen and Lou Reed — , as well as the poetry of Vladimir Nabokov and Walt Whitman and the film noirs of David Lynch. After becoming known around the world, the interpreter was hired by the fashion company Next Model Management, the Swedish multinational company H&M and the car brand Jaguar. 9. There may be a new challenger for the title of most efficient browser if the latest update from Microsoft is to be believed. The computing giant has claimed that its Microsoft Edge offering is saving a mighty amount of RAM usage for users around the world due to one of its most po[CENSORED]r tools. In a tweet(opens in new tab), the Microsoft Edge Dev account revealed that it had seen the browser's Sleeping Tabs tool save users 273 petabytes of RAM over the past 28 days alone. Microsoft Edge Sleeping Tabs The stat is even more impressive due to the fact it appears to be on Windows devices alone, meaning the total figure could be even higher. Microsoft says it is equivalent to around 39.1MB saved per tab, all contributing to better efficiency and battery life on user devices. Sleeping Tabs for Microsoft Edge(opens in new tab) were first revealed back in December 2020, when the company said that using the feature will help cut down memory usage by 32% on average, and will reduce the browser’s CPU usage by about 37% in most cases. The tool was given a useful upgrade in August 2021 that meant Edge users can opt for tabs to fall asleep after just one minute of inactivity, minimizing the time before resource savings will begin to take effect compared to the initial two-hour time period. Microsoft also gave users the ability to view specific memory savings by hovering over a sleeping tab at the top of the browser window. The company will now be hoping that this news is enough to help bring users back to Microsoft Edge following a stagnation of user numbers in recent months. The most recent Statcounter figures showed Microsoft Edge has either lost or failed to gain market share in four of the last six months. It put Edge at a 4.05% share of the market (across both desktop and mobile platforms), which equates to an estimated 200 million users - a long way shy of both Google Chrome (64.34%) and Apple’s Safari (19.16%), but ahead of Firefox (3.41%).
  10. Having launched its first 16-core CPU for servers earlier this week, Loongson is looking forward to releasing a 32-core processor in the coming months and matching the performance of AMD's Zen 3-based products in the coming years. Chinese CPU developer Loongson formally introduced and started to ship its first 16-core 3C5000 processor based on its proprietary LoongArch instruction set architecture earlier this week. At a conference where the CPU was officially unveiled, the company also talked about its future endeavors, and they look pretty ambitious. In the coming months, the company will reveal its 3D5000 CPU with 32 cores, which will combine two 3C5000 processors on a single piece of substrate. In contrast, its next-generation 6000-series processors may match the instruction per cycle (IPC) performance of AMD's Zen 3 microarchitecture, reports EET-China(opens in new tab). Loongson's current-generation 5000-series (quad-core 3A5000 and 16-core 3C5000/3C5000L) processors are on its LoongArch-based 64-bit superscalar LA464 cores. They are compatible with the MIPS ISA (to maintain compatibility with applications written for Loongson's previous-generation processors.) but can also execute code explicitly written for LoongArch. With four general-purpose ALUs, and two 256-bit vector operations units, the LA464 cores look promising. Still, once the software is recompiled to take advantage of 2,000 proprietary LoongArch instructions, they promise to shine. Based on the numbers demonstrated by Loongson at its conference, the quad-core 3A5000 processor operating at 2.50 GHz can challenge po[CENSORED]r eight-core Armv8 implementations as well as Intel's 10th Generation Core 'Comet Lake' processors in terms of single-thread performance in UnixBench. However, the chip falls behind in multi-thread execution speed for obvious reasons. Meanwhile, Loongson did not publish the performance of its 16-core 3C5000 CPU in a similar scenario but only mentioned that the processor operates at 2.0 – 2.20 GHz and delivers up to 560 GFLOPS of raw performance at 130W. For its next-generation Loongson 6000-series processors, the company plans to use its upcoming LA664 core to increase efficiency and boost IPC throughput, the company said at its event, citing the results of its simulations. As a result, Loongson's 16-core 3C6000 and 32-core 3D6000 processors due in 2023 ~ 2024 will be able to challenge AMD's Ryzen and EPYC CPUs based on the Zen 3 microarchitecture in terms of performance per cycle. For Loongson, matching AMD Zen 3's IPC in 2023 is a big deal since the company will be able somewhat to close the gap with modern chips from leading developers. Still, matching instructions per cycle alone may not be enough to reach the actual performance of AMD's CPUs. Perhaps, Loongson's 16-core 3C6000 and 32-core 3D6000 processors will be able to challenge the real-world performance of AMD's contemporary low-power EPYC processors in programs that can take advantage of LoongArch's innovations. Still, we would not expect Loongson's 2023 offerings to be competitive against AMD's 2021 CPUs. Interestingly, due to its 16-core 3C7000, 32-core 3D7000, and 64-core 3E7000 processors due in 2024 ~ 2025, Loongson will continue to rely on its LA664 cores will probably produce them on a new node to increase their performance per watt efficiency. Up to 64 cores and improved performance per watt might pose a more significant challenge to CPUs from AMD and Intel, but expecting Loongson's products to replace processors from leading designers in performance-demanding applications is too optimistic.

Musician Name: Christina Judith Perri Birthday / Location: August 19, 1986 (age 35) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Main instrument: Pop music, Pop rock, Adult contemporary, Folk music Musician Picture: Musician Awards & Nominations:- Best Performance: - Other Information: Christina Perri (Philadelphia, August 19, 1986) is an American singer and songwriter. Her song "Jar of Hearts" rose to prominence in the United States after she appeared on Fox's So You Think You Can Dance television show in 2010, but it was her song "A Thousand Years" that gained worldwide success. Perri moved to Los Angeles, California on her 21st birthday. Later that year, she got married and started producing music videos. She divorced after 18 months and moved back to Philadelphia in late 2009; it was during this time that she wrote "Jar of Hearts". She returned to Los Angeles, becoming a waitress at the Melrose Cafe, where she met a friend who introduced her to a choreographer. He liked the song "Jar of Hearts" so much that he asked if Christina would like to record a professional version of the song. The song "Jar of Hearts" was featured on So You Think You Can Dance on June 30, 2010. Its first single, "Jar of Hearts", sold 48,000 digital copies, and debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 63 and on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs at number 28. Within a month, it sold over 100,000 copies. Then the music video for the song topped the Top 20 VH1 and over 100 million views on Youtube. 15. iOS 16 will not make its way to the iPhone models that are older than the iPhone 8, Apple has confirmed following the announcement of its new iOS release. This simply means that if you have an iPhone 7, iPhone 6s, or the original iPhone SE, you will not be able to experience iOS 16. Similarly, Apple has silently removed the Apple Watch Series 8 from the list of compatible Apple Watch models for watchOS 9. Both the new iOS and watchOS releases — alongside iPadOS 16 and macOS 13 Ventura — will be available for testing under public betas in July and will be released as free software updates for eligible hardware later this year. As mentioned on the iOS 16 Preview site, the new software is not compatible with the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and the original iPhone SE. The list of compatible models for the iOS 16 update, instead, starts with the iPhone 8 and iPhone SE (2020). The iPhone 8, which debuted in 2017, is the oldest model in the list of eligible devices for iOS 16. The iPhone 6s series was launched back in 2015, while the iPhone 7 models and the iPhone SE came in 2016. However, despite being dated, all these models received iOS 15 last year. This is unlike how various Android smartphone makers treat their existing users as they often pull software update support for their older models. Nevertheless, companies including Google and Samsung have started making a change on that front by promising to seed software upgrades for up to four years and security updates for up to five years to their select models. The list of devices that are ineligible to receive iOS 16 also includes the iPod touch (7th generation) — the last-generation iPod. The iPod touch (7th generation) debuted relatively later in May 2019. With the Apple Watch Series 3 becoming ineligible for the update, the Apple Watch Series 4 has become the oldest model in the Apple Watch family to receive watchOS 9. Separately, Apple announced at its WWDC 2022 keynote on Monday that public beta releases of iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9, and macOS Ventura will be available to users for testing in July. Exact release dates are yet to be revealed, though. Before giving the new software versions as public betas, Apple has released its new iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and macOS Ventura for developers who have signed up for the Apple Developer Program. The company has brought the first developer preview tvOS 9, without any pomp and show.
  16. Microsoft may have solved one of the biggest headaches for IT admins across the world with the launch of a new service displaying update status for all devices within an organization. As revealed in a Microsoft Tech Community blog post(opens in new tab), the initial launch of the software updates page in the Microsoft 365 admin center will focus on Windows and Office updates. Microsoft says the new services should help save IT admins valuable time and resources by allowing them to quickly identify any issues with their devices and take action swiftly. Microsoft updates "Keeping devices current with the latest security updates is an important part of an IT admin’s role. The software updates page in the health section of the Microsoft 365 admin center provides a high-level summary view that informs you of devices that may be behind on taking the latest updates released by Microsoft." The page will include separate tabs for Office and Windows, where admins will be able to see whether devices are currently on the latest build or not. They'll also be able to get an overall view of their entire deployment, containing statistics on what proportion of devices are running unsupported operating systems, or how many devices are reaching end of servicing. "We know that it can take a little while to get updates deployed in your environment and so we differentiate between being a single security update behind or being multiple security updates behind," Microsoft said. The page is in preview now, with Microsoft asking admins to test it out and let them know of any improvements that can be made - with more information here(opens in new tab). The launch comes shortly after Microsoft unveiled a new service that it says will help users keep a closer handle on their Windows updates. Windows Autopatch looks to help IT admins manage the rollout of updates across a business, including feature updates, drivers, firmware, and Microsoft 365 apps. The service will be able to detect which updates need to be carried out by utilizing a series of ‘test rings’, and will be able to check settings via Microsoft Endpoint Manager, with admins simply having to follow instructions to get it up and running. Similar to the iOS update, Apple has confirmed on its website that the Apple Watch Series 3 will not receive the watchOS 9 update. The particular model was launched in 2017 and received watchOS 8 last year. If you own any of the dated Apple devices, you are now forced by the Cupertino company to upgrade to a newer hardware to get the latest software experience. But nonetheless, Apple is expected to continue to provide security updates to some of the devices that are ineligible to receive the latest software.
  17. Intel will benefit from €6.8bn ($7.3bn) of European Chips Act funding as it builds and commissions its mega site in Magdeburg, Germany. Martin Kröber, the Magdeburg member of the Bundestag (Social Democratic Party), revealed the decision on Friday, and the amount of funding due this year was confirmed in a federal budget statement (German language PDF link). Raising a new chip fab from the ground is a complicated, time consuming, and expensive process. It is estimated that the Magdeburg 'Silicon Junction' site will break ground in H1 2023 and be completed by 2027. Silicon Junction will feature two large chip fabs. These will be advanced Angstrom-era fabs with plans to produce nodes like Intel 20A and beyond, Intel revealed in March. Intel branded processors will be made at the fabs, as well as partner products via Intel Foundry Services (IFS). The federal budget statement reveals that €2.72bn ($2.91bn) of funding for the Magdeburg development has been set aside for this year. This is a significant chunk that suits a front-loaded project like this. Intel will get a total of €6.8bn to help with the development of this particular advanced node facility. EU Chips Act funding is pinned at 40% of the total cost of the mega fab, meaning the facility will cost €17bn ($18.2bn) in total to build. Intel's Magdeburg Silicon Junction will have a big impact on the local Saxony-Anhalt economy. It is expected to create 7,000 temporary jobs, plus 3,000 permanent positions. "The settlement is a boost for the whole of Saxony-Anhalt," stated Kröber. Additionally, there will be thousands of new jobs at suppliers and partners, plus a wider boost to the local service industry, retailers, and so on, as is typical with the arrival of a large employer. The EU Chips Act was enacted in Feb 2022 with €43bn ($46bn) earmarked to encourage tech industry investment and development. Germany is one of the biggest gainers so far. Intel is also going to invest heavily in Ireland to the tune of €17bn ($18.2bn). Smaller but significant investments of €4.5bn ($4.8bn) each are going toward plans in France, Italy, Poland, and Spain. The above investment sums represent 60% capital from Intel and should be matched by 40% EU Chips Act funding from the countries named. The overall aim of the EU Chips Act is to achieve a production target of 20% of the worlds semiconductor output by 2030. Currently, EU semiconductor production accounts for approximately 9% of the global total. The EU Chips Act was inspired by the US Chips Act ($52bn) subsidy scheme. It serves the same intended purpose, to localize important high-technology factors of production, and secure critical supply chains.

  21. Apple has official unveiled iOS 16, the next-generation version of its operating system for compatible iPhone models. As previous leaks and rumours suggested, Apple has introduced changes and improvements across the system at its annual WWDC keynote event. The software update to iOS 16 will arrive later this year on iPhone 8 and later devices — likely in September — and will feature improvements to the operating system, including an overhauled lock screen and notification system, along with improved and redesigned system apps. Developer previews will be available this week followed by a public beta next month, ahead of the public rollout later this year. Improved Lock Screen support The iOS 16 update will bring one of the biggest updates to the iOS Lock Screen in years with multi-layered cutomisation options. Users will have access to wallpapers with widget-like capabilities and the OS will allow users to pick from different typefaces and colour filters while customising their setup. They can also add widgets for upcoming calendar events, workout status and choose multiple widgets, while picking wallpapers and presets from a curated selection provided by Apple. iOS 16 will also offer a Photo Shuffle mode that will allow users to automatically switch up their lockscreens. The update will also bring support for a Weather wallpaper that will show live weather conditions on the lockscreen, or an Astronomy wallpaper, to see views of the Earth, Moon, and solar system. Developers can also use WidgetKit to make it easier to bring their content to the lockscreen, according to Apple. Apple has revamped notifications on iOS 16, so they don't get in the way of personalised wallpapers and Lock Screen layouts. The lockscreen notifications on iOS will now scroll in from the bottom of the screen, making them easier to tap and access with one hand. Users can also pick from apps that make use of the Live Activities API to bring live game scores, check their Uber ride, or control music, from the lock screen, according to Apple. Focus Modes Focus modes were introduced with iOS 15, and Apple is bringing them to the lockscreen with iOS 16. Users can now activate Focus modes from the lock screen with a swipe from the lock screen. Users will be able to tie a Lock Screen Wallpaper and widget set up to a particular Focus mode, allowing them to switch between Focus modes by simply swiping to the corresponding Lock Screen. With the arrival of iOS 16, Apple will also bring deeper integration for Focus modes to its own apps, allowing users to filter out tabs, accounts, email, and features from apps like Calendar, Mail, Messages and Safari. Apple will alert users with a message that says Filtered by Focus, for example, in the Messages app. This functionality will also be extended to third party apps, according to the company. Messages Messages is getting a massive update, with the ability to edit messages. This is a feature that is offered on specific messaging apps, such as Telegram. Users can also undo sending of messages, allowing users to recall messages - this is a feature also offered on apps like Signal, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Users can also mark messages as unread, allowing them to come back to a conversation at a later time, according to Apple. SharePlay is also coming to Messages with iOS 16, allowing users to watch synced content like movies and songs, while sharing playback controls in a Messages chat, according to Apple. Mail Scheduling for emails is coming to the Mail app on iOS 16, according to Apple. Users will also be able to cancel the sending of an email, before it is delivered to a recipient's inbox. Users will also be reminded if they forgot to add an attachment to their email and resurface older messages with Remind Later and Follow Up suggestions. It is worth noting that these features are offered on competing services and apps, such as Gmail. Apple is also updating the search feature in the Mail app, and will surface recent emails, contacts, documents, and links as they search for emails. Improvements to Dictation, Live Text, Visual Look Up Apple has introduced a new on device dictation experience with iOS 16. The upcoming update will let users dictate text while leaving they keyboard open allowing them to add specific words or punctuation in. The dictation, which will be processed entirely on device, will also automatically add punctuation and emoji. Visual Look Up has also been updated with a handy new feature. Users can now tap and hold on a subject to lift it from the image and place it into another app like Messages. Meanwhile, Apple has also updated the feature, which could originally identify plants and pets — it will be able to identify birds, insects, and statues with iOS 16. Menahwile, home, office, hotel, and car keys can be shared with other users securely via the Messages and Mail apps, allowing them to access the same keys directly in their Wallet App. The company says it is also working with the IETF industry standard for support to share keys with non-Apple users. Parents will get suggestions for age-appropriate restrictions for apps, movies, books, and music. Kids can also request more screen time on Messages with parents, and parents can approve or decline these requests without leaving the chat. Fitness and Health With iOS 16, iPhone users will be able to set up a daily Move goal in the Fitness app and track active calories to close their ring — the company says it will use motion sensors from the smartphone to estimate burned calories for the Move goal, by tracking steps, distance, flights climbed, and workouts from third-party apps. These can also be shared with friends, according to Apple. Meanwhile, the Health app will be updated with support for a new Medications feature that will allow users to add and manage their ongoing medications, creating schedules and reminders for medications, vitamins, and supplements. Users in the US will also be able to point their camera at a label to quickly see details about the medication and learn of potential interactions. Health details can also be shared with other users, and records from connected health institutions can also be used to create a PDF document from the Health app. iCloud Shared Photo Library iCloud Shared Photo Library is coming to iOS 16, allowing users to share photos with up to five other users. Users can select specific photos from their Photo library or a specific date range. Users can even choose to automatically choose who to share specific pictures as they are being clicked in the camera, thanks to a new toggle that will be added with the iOS 16 update. All six members that are part of an iCloud Shared Photos Library will have equal permissions to add, edit, delete or favourite images in the group. iCloud Shared Photos Library on iOS 16 will also surface suggestions for users to share a particular photo that includes particiapants in the shared library, according to the company. Safety Check At WWDC 2022, Apple announced a new privacy tool called Safety Check, which is designed to help users whose personal safety is at risk from domestic or intimate partner violence. Safety Check is a feature that will allow users to quickly remove access to others. By pressing a button called Start Emergency Reset, users will be able to easily sign out of iCloud on their other devices, reset privacy permissions for all apps, stop sharing their location, and shut down messaging on all other devices except the one they have in their hand. iOS 16 release date Apple has begun rolling out a developer preview of iOS 16 to members of the Apple Developer Program. Meanwhile, a public beta will be available to iOS users starting in July and users can sign up at the company's website. The iOS 16 update and the software features shown off at WWDC will be available later this year — likely in September — for iPhone 8 and later models, according to Apple.
  22. Let's face it - no one enjoys dealing with Windows updates. We've all had the frustration of booting up or laptop or PC to be faced with "Your device is installing updates", a process that always seems to either take seconds, or hours. Fortunately, Microsoft is close to launching a new service that it says will help users keep a closer handle on their Windows updates to ensure this process is as smooth as possible. Initially targeting enterprise customers, Windows Autopatch is set to enter public preview this week, meaning a general launch is getting closer. Windows Autopatch First announced in April 2022, Windows Autopatch looks to help IT admins manage the rollout of Windows 10 and Windows 11 updates across a business, including feature updates, drivers, firmware, and Microsoft 365 apps. The service will be able to detect which updates need to be carried out by utilizing a series of ‘test rings’, and will be able to check settings via Microsoft Endpoint Manager, with admins simply having to follow instructions to get it up and running. Customers with at least a Windows 10 or Windows 11 Enterprise E3 license will be eligible for the new service, and will need Intune, Azure Active Directory, and Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise to be correctly configured. "The takeaway if you're an IT admin? You can continue using the tools and processes you're accustomed to for managing and deploying updates—or you can take a hands-off approach and let Windows Autopatch do it for you," Microsoft's Lior Bela said(opens in new tab) at the initial reveal of Autopatch back in April 2022. "Changing the way things get done, even when that change makes things easier, gives pause to most people who run large IT organizations. By joining the public preview, you'll be able to get comfortable with Windows Autopatch and ready your organization to take advantage of the service at scale." Previously, Microsoft had issued most of its software and security updates on a particular date - Patch Tuesday. However the company has now announced that Patch Tuesday rollouts will end in the summer of 2022, with Autopatch taking its place.
  23. According to a report by Jon Peddie Research, the discrete graphics card market has seen a massive shift in value and product volume over the past year, in favor of consumers. Discrete graphics card shipments from AIB partners have escalated significantly, with JPR reporting a massive 32.2% year-over-year gain in overall shipments from both Nvidia and AMD. At the same time, the AIB market value dropped by $4 billion from $12.4 billion down to just $8.6, because of lower GPU prices this year. This is good news for consumers, and means prices should continue to fall until they hit MSRP. The start of 2022 marked the first time in eight quarters that average selling prices (ASPs) of AIB partner cards finally began to drop. JPR sees a bright future for the graphics card market and estimates it will grow from $46 billion right now to $57 billion by 2025, thanks to Intel's entry into the AIB partner market by 2023. This is despite the current market's drop in value from over the last quarter. This hiccup is a result of the massive cost inflation of graphics cards we saw in 2020 and 2021, with the market now recovering rather quickly in 2022 from these super-inflated prices. But if JPR's predictions are true, the market will fully recover and regain all that value through GPU shipments instead. Again, this means GPU pricing should stay comparatively low as many many more graphics cards hit store shelves. Market share between AMD and Nvidia has also shifted over the course of the past year. in Q1 of 2021 AMD had a 20% market share in the discrete GPU market, with Nvidia at 80%. In Q1 of 2022, market share shifted towards AMD a little bit, with AMD now at 24% market share and Nvidia at 75%. This isn't a massive shift, but it is a rather big one for AMD, since the company has been struggling to gamin market on the GPU front for years. Overall, 2022 appears to be a year of recovery for the discrete GPU market. Shipments have escalated significantly since last year, and prices have dropped drastically at the same time. This may also be a good sign that next-generation GPUs will ship at MSRP and won't have the same supply problems as Nvidia's RTX 30 series did at the start of its launch. At the very least, barring any major changes on the mining or geopolitical fronts, current-gen GPU prices should keep trending in the direction of affordability.
