I've had my face stuck in a Razer Zephyr facemask, ripping out Bane quotes to shop assistants and my son's nursery staff all week. And, honestly, I'm not convinced I can really pull it off, nor that the old world idyll of Bath, England is ready for it. With my hood up, to ward off the torrential rain, I'm sure people were crossing the road to get away from me. Even on a dry, bright day, on a trip to buy infant nappies for an imminent arrival, I got my fair share of doubletakes walking the aisles of the local supermarket. Razer has had its fair share of weird and sometimes wonderful concept projects, from PC gaming high chairs to triple-screen laptops to toasters. Seriously. Bread to win. But the pandemic brought another to CES 2021; Project Hazel, a new take on the protective face mask that has now become ubiquitous worldwide. The original Hazel concept and the Razer Zephyr it has morphed into are strikingly similar, missing the one piece that would make it the ultimate Hallowe'en Bane costume accessory: the voice amp. That aside, we're still looking at a partly transparent mask, with twin intake fans, with N95 grade filters, and of course RGB illumination. Yes, you can connect it to your phone via Bluetooth and tinker with the Chroma RGB lighting. Razer is now listing the Zephyr on its store, having launched it at RazerCon today. And you can order one right now for the princely sum of $99.99, or $149.99 if you want the starter pack with replacement N95 filters. Despite its birth in the pandemic the Zephyr is being billed as a wearable air purifier, and is specifically not a medical grade mask designed to be worn in a hospital setting. So it's more for air pollution than necessarily protection against Covid-19. That said, the N95 grade filtration system is meant to filter at least 99% of air particles, and Razer says that while it isn't classified as PPE, nor has it been specifically tested against the Covid-19 virus, it "offers the same functionality and adequate protection due to its 99% BFE rating." And will also comply with the mask-wearing mandates of both the USA and UK. But, what of that vaunted voice amp? One of the issues with mask wearing is that it can render the wearer somewhat inaudible, Project Hazel promised voice amplification to combat that. I was hoping it would also provide some fun voice modulation functions via the phone app, but sadly neither has come to pass. Masks have made a lot of human interactions far harder for me; I honestly didn't realise how much I had come to rely on lip reading until now Razer states that it ditched the voice amp to make the final Zephyr design lighter and last longer. For me, the most important piece of the Hazel prototype has been retained: the transparent front. I'm a man of advancing years, who spent far too much of their youth with his head buried in towers of speakers and bass bins in fields at 4am, and as such my hearing is not what it was. Masks have made a lot of human interactions far harder for me; I honestly didn't realise how much I had come to rely on lip reading until now. The internal illumination and transparent plastic front, allows you to see the mouth of the wearer move, even in the dark of the night. And that also means you can see people smile. I can't count the number of times I've smiled warmly at someone by way of an acknowledgement while wearing a mask that makes such gestures moot. The Zephyr's biggest win for me is that visibility. The biggest issue is that it's big, stands out a long way from your face, meaning your peripheral vision is hampered, and those two wee fans can get awful loud when you're running them at full 6,200 RPM mode. It's also kinda weird to hear the pitch of the fans change as you breathe in and out, too. Thankfully there is a quieter 4,200 RPM mode, and the ability to turn them off fully. You can do the same with the RGB illumination around them, too, but if you're buying a $100 Razer face mask, be honest, you're turning those LEDs on. The other issue I have with the Zephyr vs the washable cloth mask that I can stick in my back pocket when I'm not wearing it… well, let's just say I don't have a pocket in my jeans big enough to stuff it into. And that means I've got to spend more time thinking about making sure I've got my mask with me if I'm taking the Zephyr out on my travels, let alone making sure it's charged. I mean, I'm not wearing an RGB-enabled face mask without turning the damned things on, bright sunlight or no. There's also the fact if I've got to spend more time thinking about taking my mask out with me, I'm inevitably going to spend more time thinking about what I look like with said mask strapped to my face. And as a speccy glasses wearer it does solve the issue of having them steam up the moment I put a standard cloth mask on. The Zephyr is lightweight, easy to put on and take off, and fits securely to your face. Even as a bearded man. But, as much as I'm enjoying weirdly intoning "no one cared who I was ‘til I put on the mask" to startled shopkeepers while rocking a natty sheepskin coat, the fact that it seems to be actively freaking people out is maybe a little off-putting. That said, my two-year old loves it, and is constantly demanding I put it back on. Though that in itself is a mite off-putting, too, the more I think about it.

The latest marketing push for Call of Duty: Vanguard wants you to believe its graphics are so realistic that conflict photographers can't tell the difference between the videogame and reality. "Call of Duty: Vanguard captures the epic intimacy of World War II in an incredibly immersive manner," said chief marketing officer Fernando Machado, presumably keeping a straight face. A pair of photojournalists were given "special camera-like portals [to enter] into the game engine itself," where they captured images just as they would if they were photographing a real conflict. Naturally, they also raved about how realistic the experience was: "As photographers, this is what conflict looks like," war journalist Sebastiano Tomada Piccolomini said afterward. The resulting video of the two photographers at work (above) is as dramatic and over-egged as any Call of Duty trailer. Prints of the four photos are being sold to raise funds to help US military veterans find "high quality employment" through the Call of Duty Endowment program. Which is a good cause, and a convenient thing for Activision to keep in its pocket as a response to any accusations of crassness. Still, these four screenshots aren't exactly Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima or the Execution of Nguyễn Văn Lém. They're being sold for $515 each.

That's a pretty big problem, made worse by the fact that the creators "do not have a timeframe for when FOSE can be updated to this new version" of the game. Enter the Fallout Anniversary Patcher, by mod maker lStewieAl, which restores FOSE functionality by downgrading Fallout 3 to the pre-update version 1.7.0.3, while maintaining the removal of Games for Windows Live dependences. It also automatically loads FOSE when Fallout 3 is started (if it's installed) and enables the game to use 4GB of RAM: Some older Bethesda games, including Fallout 3, have a 2GB limit on RAM usage, and patching that up to 4GB can have a very positive impact on performance. The patch will work with both the standard and Game of the Year editions of Fallout 3 on Steam or GOG. Once it's installed you can boot the game however you like—through Steam or GOG, the launcher, or any mod manager—but if you want FOSE to auto-load you'll need to do it with the Fallout3.exe directly, so you'll probably want to create a shortcut. The patcher doesn't include any copyrighted files so you'll need a legitimate copy of Fallout 3 to use it, and it should not be used to install Tale of Two Wastelands 3.2—use this downgrader instead. It's a bit odd that Fallout 3 would shed GFWL at this very late juncture, although as Shaun speculated when it happened last week, Microsoft's still-relatively-new ownership of Bethesda may have had something to do with it. Whatever the reason, it's good news for fans, who are still playing Fallout 3 in surprising numbers: The average concurrent player count over the past 30 days is 347, which is awfully impressive for a 13-year-old singleplayer RPG with several sequels in the intervening decade-plus.

Windows 11 finally has the highly anticipated support for Android apps which Microsoft promised upon first revealing the OS – albeit just in testing for now, and only certain Windows Insiders can benefit from it. As you may recall, the ability to natively run Android apps on the Windows 11 desktop – or at least some Android apps, namely those provided by the Amazon App Store, via the Microsoft Store – was hoped to be present at release, but the feature never came. The best Android apps of 2021 Check out all the best PC games We'll show you how to build a PC Now, at least, we can see Microsoft is progressing towards its realization with the introduction of the Android apps experience to testers in the Beta Channel (Windows 11 Build 22000.xxx series) who are in the US. Dev Channel testers won’t get Android support yet, but Microsoft says they will do “down the road”. Microsoft reminds us that this functionality is driven by the Windows Subsystem for Android, which eligible testers will find under the Start menu (and they can tweak relevant settings from there). Like the Windows Subsystem for Linux, it runs in a Hyper-V Virtual Machine From the user experience point of view, Android apps can be treated just like common-or-garden Windows apps on the desktop. They can be pinned, Alt-tabbed between, snapped side-by-side to run more than one app, plus Android apps are supported in the Action Center with notifications, and you can cut and paste clipboard material between Android and Windows software. The idea, as you might expect, is for things to be as seamless as possible, and Microsoft also makes it clear that accessibility is high on the priority list, noting that “many Windows accessibility settings apply to Android apps and we are working with Amazon to deliver more improvements”. Android support is live now, in theory, for the aforementioned testers, but the link Microsoft provides in its instructions to get going is actually missing. We expect that’ll be remedied very soon, though. Analysis: Not a surprise, but great to see nonetheless The arrival of native Android app support is no big surprise given that there was a very recent leak of the feature being tested internally at Microsoft, so it was expected to be here soon. Maybe not quite this soon, but hey, the sooner the better, obviously. With testing now fully underway in the Beta Channel, the prospects for a more timely arrival in the release version of Windows 11 are looking brighter. Naturally, the addition of more apps to the armory of Windows 11 users is a good thing, but the initial selection for testing is small as you might expect. There are 50 apps to begin with, but new software will be coming as the months progress. The initial offerings include the Kindle app, Lego Duplo World, and mobile games including Lords Mobile. Of course, it’s early days, so don’t expect smooth sailing when playing around with Android apps. Indeed, Microsoft has highlighted a bunch of known issues, including camera glitches in some apps, bugs around apps coming out of modern standby, and performance slowdown when running multiple Android apps. While only US testers can get involved at the moment, presumably that will open up to other regions as time progresses, too.

AMD was long the dominant force in budget graphics cards and often able to sweep the charts in contests of performance-per-dollar versus Nvidia. As of late, however, neither company has focused all that much on the cheaper side of things (thanks, global chip shortage) and that's left us with a growing void of cheaper chips. But there are some that straddle the ephemeral concept of 'entry-level' today. AMD already offers the $379 RX 6600 XT and Nvidia's cheapest is the $329 RTX 3060. Both far from entry-level as we once knew it, but that's what we're working with, and what AMD is up against with the RX 6600. AMD RADEON RX 6600 SPECIFICATIONS What are the AMD Radeon RX 6600 specs? The Radeon RX 6600 neatly fills a gap beneath the Radeon RX 6600 XT in the red team's RX 6000-series line-up, and it's safe to say there are few, if any, real surprises here when comparing the two cards. There are a few differences to note between the two, though, those which make it all the more important to consider stretching to the extra bucks of the XT model, if possible. First off, the major similarities. AMD's RDNA 2 architecture is the company's best to date, and it's already found its way into an impressive line-up of graphics cards, including the impressive Radeon RX 6900 XT and Microsoft and Sony's latest consoles. It is, of course, also the architecture powering the RX 6600 XT and RX 6600. If you want to read more about the RDNA 2 architecture, I recommend you check out our Radeon RX 6800 XT review. That's where we explore its changes and improvements in more detail. AMD Radeon RX 6600 graphics card on colourful background. This architecture's inclusion is a good thing, generally, as the RDNA 2 architecture has proven itself an impressive step up over AMD's first-generation RDNA. For the RX 6600 specifically, the RDNA 2 architecture comes in handy when it comes to pushing performance per watt, which as you'll see later in this review, falls in the RX 6600's favour versus the RTX 3060 12GB. RX 6600 SPECS GPU: Navi 23 Compute Units: 28 Stream Processors: 1,792 Infinity Cache: 32 MB Memory: 8 GB GDDR6 Memory bus: 128-bit TBP: 132 W MSRP: $329 The RX 6600 comes with a 132W TBP (total board power), and AMD recommends it be paired with at least a 450W PSU. That's lower than Nvidia's RTX 3060 TBP of 170W, which it recommends gets paired up with a 550W PSU. In some circumstances, then, that could be a helpful money saver. On the power front, then, all is rosy. But these modest power demands come at a larger cost elsewhere, and are seemingly down to a reduction in core count and clock speed. The RX 6600 is a far cry from the 5,120 cores of the Navi 21 chip found in the RX 6000-series top card. Instead, it comes with a pared-back version of the same Navi 23 GPU as the RX 6600 XT. The RX 6600 comes with 1,792 cores (28 CUs), down from 2,048 (32 CUs) in the RX 6600 XT. It might not seem like much, but four CUs at this grade can make for a sizeable loss in performance, and the RX 6600 loses out in other ways to its XT sibling, too. For one, it's not as blisteringly fast as we're used to seeing. The RX 6600 comes with a reference boost clock of 2,491MHz, which is also the max boost clock for our Powercolor review unit. The Game Clock—which is the clock speed AMD expects you to hit while gaming—is set to a more modest 2,044MHz. That's still impressively over the 2GHz mark, which has been a feat all RDNA 2 GPUs have achieved through some careful and clever tinkering. Though it is shy of the RX 6600 XT, which manages 2,589MHz boost and 2,359MHz game clock. Under actual gaming conditions, we saw the RX 6600 easily smash its Game Clock, regularly hitting 2,337MHz, but that's still around 300MHz slower than the actual in-game clock speed of the RX 6600 XT. What this all means is that the RX 6600 slips behind the RX 6600 XT in-game by a decent margin, as you'll see in the performance graphs below. However, potentially one upside to the RX 6600's slimmer specs is this could allow for more slimmed-down coolers from AMD's partners—even the relatively minimal cooler on our reference Powercolor Fighter manages to keep this card at a surprisingly low temperature during operation. I'd like to think that will mean more RX 6600 graphics cards at or around MSRP, but in today's wild west of graphics card retail that's not something I can say with any real certainty. It's also worth noting that both the RX 6600 and the RX 6600 XT use a PCIe 4.0 x8 connection, and what this means is the graphics card only has the physical pins for an 8x connection, not the amount required for the more standard x16 one. That's no issue if you're running a PCIe 4.0 compatible PC, but plug this card into a PCIe 3.0 slot and it may drop some performance. There's unlikely to be much in it, a frame or two, but just keep this in mind when comparing scores, especially at 4K. Pair this card with any modern AMD Ryzen CPU and you are set to benefit, and you'll also be able to notch your performance upwards a touch through the use of Smart Access Memory (SAM). For the record, our test bench is powered by an Intel 10th Gen gaming chip and Z590 chipset, and thus does not offer PCIe 4.0 compatibility.

Played for about a day made it to level eleven thought I’d enjoy the game, I was wrong. You have to have gold to get guns, you get about 7 gold for every 30 seconds of adds you watch. Every good gun costs over 1000 to 2000 gold!!! Not to mention all the other attachments and ridiculous things you need to keep up with that cost gold. You need weapon points to upgrade your guns and armor points to upgrade your armor; once you run out of your limited starter points though expect to be using your gold for armor and weapon points...just another thing you need to do to stay competitive unless you like losing...all in all the game is overwhelming and will take a huge investment of time and money just to enjoy it. Concept of game is great graphics are great clan system is a good idea but haven’t even felt like I was good enough to get there. Don’t play at night the game will pair you with the one night owl who pays to play and you will get crushed. It would be great if infinity wars simplified a bit and made rewards not so add and money based. Seriously 7 gold for watching an add?!?!? (And they are long long adds btw.) Activision Blizzard has filed a motion to temporarily halt proceedings in the lawsuit filed against it in July by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing. The publisher wants a time-out to collect evidence in relation to a surprising allegation against the DFEH that could give the company an advantage when the case proceeds. The allegation, made last week, doesn't primarily have to do with the content of the DFEH lawsuit, which claims that Activision Blizzard has for years harbored a culture of sexism and harassment. Rather, it has to do with the lawyers who filed the suit. According to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, a US federal agency that recently proposed a settlement with Activision Blizzard over similar claims, the DFEH lawyers behind California's suit used to work for them, and actually investigated Activision Blizzard on the federal level before taking up the case again in California, where they objected to the EEOC's settlement terms. Our article from last week goes into more detail about why the agencies are in conflict, but the short of it is that you're not allowed to do that.
