Chinese authorities have arrested at least 10 people after intercepting a boat believed to be heading to Taiwan from Hong Kong, local reports say. China's coastguard said the arrests were made on Sunday morning off the southern province of Guangdong, near Hong Kong. Hong Kong media reports said those on board the vessel were trying to reach Taiwan to claim political asylum. The reports said Hong Kong activist Andy Li was among those detained. Mr Li, who was arrested earlier this month for alleged collusion with foreign forces and money laundering, was detained on suspicion of "unlawfully crossing the border", the South China Morning Post reported, citing police sources. It was not immediately clear what those now in custody might be charged with. Attempts by people from Hong Kong to flee the territory by boat are considered to be rare. Hong Kong has seen a wave of arrests of activists in recent weeks under a controversial national security law imposed by China in June. The security law, opposed by many in Hong Kong, punishes what Beijing broadly defines as subversion, secession, terrorism and collusion with foreign forces with up to life in prison. The number of arrests has raised fears that China will use its security law to undertake a broad crackdown on Hong Kong's pro-democracy activists and media figures. Hong Kong was handed back to China from British control in 1997, but under a unique agreement - "one country, two systems" - that gives the territory freedoms not seen on the mainland. But critics have accused China of eroding those freedoms, leading to protests in Hong Kong and political tensions between Beijing and the international community. What do we know about the arrests? A social media post by the Guangdong Coast Guard on Wednesday said those arrested were being held on suspicion of unlawfully crossing the border. What's Taiwan's role in this? Taiwan, a self-ruled island off China's south-east coast, has sought to help Hong Kongers fearful of a political crackdown by Beijing. In July, Taiwan opened an office to enable people from Hong Kong to emigrate to the island. The office received more than 1,000 inquiries in its first month alone. Taiwan has for all practical purposes been independent since 1950, but China regards it as a rebel province that must be reunited with the mainland - by force if necessary. That has resulted in political acrimony, with Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen accusing China of trying to force the island to accept Chinese sovereignty. President Ing-wen heightened those tensions on Thursday by warning of an increased risk of accidental conflict in the waters around China. The US and China have also been conducting military exercises in the disputed South China Sea. The sea has in recent years become a flashpoint for tensions between China and other nations which claim sovereignty over two largely uninhabited island chains, the Paracels and the Spratlys. The missile launches came on the same day the US announced sanctions on two dozen Chinese companies for their role in building artificial islands in the South China Sea. Speaking in Hawaii, the US Defence Secretary, Mark Esper, said China and America were in a "great power competition". OverOps is launching a new integration with GitLab and GitHub that provides support for git blame, which ties developers to their errors. According to OverOps, this will help reduce resolution time of errors. The integration allows teams to see who was the last author who changed code in the call stack of each error, link errors to commits, assign issues to the correct developers, and capture rich error snapshots with the source code and variable state for every error. OverOps explained that the previous way of viewing source code in OverOps was to either decompile the code or manually point OverOps to the location of source files. This new capability allows it to automatically pull source code from code repositories, including comments and corresponding line numbers in each error analysis. “Integrating git blame data into the OverOps code view and error analysis is just the beginning. Iran has agreed to give International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors access to two suspected former nuclear sites. A joint statement said Iran was doing so in good faith to resolve outstanding issues related to nuclear safeguards. The agreement came during a visit to Tehran by the IAEA's director general. The global watchdog has criticised Iran for not answering its questions about possible undeclared nuclear material and nuclear-related activities at the two locations and blocking inspections. It is not clear what inspectors suspect might have happened at the sites. But it is thought the activities took place in the early 2000s. That is long before Iran struck a landmark deal with world powers that placed limits on its nuclear programme in return for the lifting of sanctions.

Rumor mill: Once again, rumors of a more powerful, 4K-enabled Nintendo Switch have arrived. This time, several publications have claimed that the machine's development is finally moving along and that we can expect its arrival sometime next year. While power and graphics aren't the Nintendo Switch's main selling points, it's been rumored that Nintendo wants to bring out an upgraded version of its hybrid machine that will look less like a relic from the past when compared to the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Both Bloomberg and Taipei's United Daily News (UDN) write that Nintendo is working on a new model, and while its specs remain undecided, the next Switch will have "more computing power and 4K high-definition graphics." Bloomberg doesn't state when the new Switch might arrive, but UDN claims production will begin by the end of 2020 with a release schedule as early as Q1 2021. Bloomberg adds that Nintendo's holiday release schedule is intentionally light this year as the company wants an enticing series of launch games for next year's upgraded Switch. Back in January, one analyst claimed a 4K Nintendo Switch Pro would arrive sometime in 2020, but Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa quickly refuted this, confirming the company had no plans to release a new Switch model this year. He never ruled out a future 4K Switch, though, and it looks as if we'll see one in 2021. Despite its technical limitations, the Nintendo Switch has sold 61 million units since launching in 2017. The prebuilt development environment provider Gitpod has announced it is now open source, enabling teams to automatically spin up ready-to-code environments for GitLab, GitHub and Bitbucket projects. Gitpod is a VS Code powered, Kubernetes application that works right in the browser. With Gitpod, developers can maintain their environments as code and turn manual tasks into machine-executable code. “These days, developers are dealing with complex polyglot projects composed of many microservices. With such cloud-native architectures, setting up and managing dev environments becomes extremely challenging,” said Sven Efftinge, co-founder and CEO of Gitpod. “Gitpod allows developers to start coding instantly with a single click from any branch, issue, and from any merge and pull request respectively. dev environments.” According to the company, the open-source solution is very similar to CI systems. It watches changes happening in the repository and prepares the dev environment based on those changes. The Kremlin has dismissed accusations that President Vladimir Putin sanctioned the poisoning of critic Alexei Navalny. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the allegations were untrue and could not be taken seriously. Doctors in Germany, where Mr Navalny is being treated, said he had "probably" been poisoned but Mr Peskov questioned why they had "rushed" to that opinion. Mr Navalny fell ill on a flight from Tomsk to Moscow last Thursday. His supporters suspect poison was placed in a cup of tea at Tomsk airport. The flight of the arch-Putin critic was diverted to Omsk, where doctors treated him for three days before he was transferred to the Charité hospital in Berlin. His condition is serious but not life-threatening, the Berlin doctors say. Mr Navalny, 44, made his name by exposing official corruption, labelling Mr Putin's United Russia as "the party of crooks and thieves". He has served several jail terms which he says were the result of politically motivated charges. There have been a number of previous attacks on high-profile critics or opponents of President Putin, including politicians, intelligence officers and journalists. The Kremlin has always denied involvement. What did the Kremlin say? Mr Peskov said of the allegations of President Putin's involvement: "We can't take such accusations seriously. They absolutely cannot be true. They're more like 'empty noise', so we don't intend to take them seriously." In response, Mr Navalny's spokeswoman, Kira Yarmysh, tweeted: "It was obvious that the crime would not be properly investigated and the culprit found. However, we all know perfectly well who he is." Mr Peskov said the diagnoses by both Russian and German doctors matched but the "conclusions differ". "We don't understand why our German colleagues are in such a hurry. The substance hasn't yet been established," he said. German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday called for a Russian investigation into the suspected poisoning. The UK also called for a "full and transparent" investigation. Mr Peskov said one would only be launched if poisoning were definitely established as a cause. What is Mr Navalny's condition? The Charité hospital says that "clinical evidence suggests an intoxication through a substance belonging to the group of cholinesterase inhibitors". The exact substance has not been identified. The inhibitors can be used to treat conditions like Alzheimer's but can also be used in nerve agents. They block a crucial enzyme meaning that muscles, particularly those associated with breathing, can go into spasm. Mr Navalny has been treated with atropine. The Kremlin says Russian doctors also noted lowered cholinesterase levels and administered atropine, but found no evidence of poisoning. Mr Navalny's wife, Yulia, said she feared Russian doctors had delayed his transfer as authorities were trying to wait for evidence of any chemical substance to disappear. Now, it seems a successor is on the horizon, which instead of being a simple streaming dongle, will run Android TV and come with its own remote to compete with the likes of Apple TV, Roku and Amazon's Fire TV. The Chromecast has arguably been Google's most successful hardware to date, bringing the joy and convenience of streaming to TVs from browsers/phones at an affordable price point. The streaming dongle slowly gained more capabilities like 4K and HDR support with the 2016 Chromecast Ultra, but these features were absent on the later 3rd-gen model in a bid to keep prices down. Rumors around a new model codenamed 'Sabrina' began surfacing earlier this year, and Google's recent FCC filings suggest that an Android TV dongle could launch alongside the Pixel 5 at the company's annual hardware event in October. 9to5Google reports of two new Google devices with model numbers GZRNL and G9N9N in FCC's listing. The former is described as an "Interactive Media Streaming Device" that supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, while the latter is simply listed as a "Wireless Device" that will have the FCC label "under the power cover," suggesting that it could be a remote control for navigating Android TV's UI. In addition to 4K 60fps and HDR support, Google's Android TV dongle is expected to feature a low-latency gaming mode for Stadia that will automatically toggle a TV's built-in gaming mode to disable post-processing and reduce lag while streaming games. The dongle is said to have twice the RAM of the Chromecast Ultra at 2GB, which, alongside its more powerful internals and the new dedicated remote control, would likely make it a more expensive option to Google's current offerings. To make it stand out from other streaming media players, the company could also offer free Stadia Pro subscriptions as it did for existing Chromecast owners a few months ago. The Common Weakness Enumeration (CWE) has released its 2020 “Top 25 Most Dangerous Software Weakness” report, which found improper neutralization of input during web page generation, also known as cross-site scripting (XSS), and out-of-bounds write, where the most dangerous weakness. With cross-site scripting, software does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output, used as a web page, and served to other users. Once the malicious script is injected, the attacker can perform a variety of malicious activities. In the out-of-bounds write vulnerability, the software writes data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer, which can result in the corruption of data, a crash, or code execution. “These weaknesses are dangerous because they are often easy to find, exploit, and can allow adversaries to completely take over a system, steal data, or prevent an application from working,” CWE wrote in a post that contains the whole list. Improper input validation, out-of-bounds read, and the improper restriction of operations within the bounds of the memory buffer followed as the 3rd through 5th greatest vulnerabilities. The biggest changes since last year was that CWE moved up more specific weaknesses and moved down abstract class-level weaknesses, saying that this will greatly benefit users that are attempting to understand the actual issues that threaten today’s systems. The biggest shifts in the list had to do with four weaknesses related to authentication and authorization such as: insufficiently protected credentials moved from number 27 to 18, missing authentication for critical functions moved from spot 36 to 24, and missing authorization moved from 34 to 25. “One theory about this movement is that the community has improved its education, tooling, and analysis capabilities related to some of the more implementation specific weaknesses identified in previous editions of the CWE Top 25 and have reduced the occurrence of those, thus lowering their ranking, and in turn raising the ranking of these more difficult weaknesses,” CWE stated.
