  1. I've been patient since March 2019, when Dwarf Fortress creator Tarn Adams announced that the game would be coming to Steam alongside a brand new graphical interface. Adams has released a steady stream of update videos and screenshots since then, showing the work in progress, but this latest one has finally pushed me into making grabby motions with my hands and mouthing "give it to me now" at my monitor. This massive overhaul of Dwarf Fortress is looking—and just as importantly, sounding—fantastic.Dwarf Fortress famously used ASCII symbols instead of art, but it also had a very sparse soundtrack of just two songs, played by Adams on acoustic guitar. The Steam version of the game is expanding on music alongside graphics, and the 10 minutes of soundtrack in this new video is darn near enrapturing. It starts with a similarly sparse acoustic guitar before layering in atmospheric touches and exciting crescendos. I don't know who's doing the soundtrack, but it makes me think of composer Darren Korb's music for Supergiant Games, and I mean that as a compliment. The main purpose of the video is to show off the new desert biome tileset for the first time, and I think it looks quite nice. Dwarf Fortress is typically played from a pretty 'zoomed-out' perspective, so it's not easy to identify everything on screen as the video bounces between the surface and the fortress underneath and in and out of menus. But hey: it's got menus, and they look pretty easy to understand. So do mouse controls like drawing zones to designate storage rooms or places for dwarves to dig.
  2. Samsung Galaxy S22 series is touted as the next non-foldable flagship series from the South Korean tech giant. Now, its colour options and certain specifications have surfaced online. Samsung Galaxy S22 series is expected to comprise the vanilla Galaxy S22, the Galaxy S22+, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The first two are said to get four colour options and the last will reportedly get three colour options. Samsung will also reportedly pack an S Pen with the Galaxy S22 Ultra with a dedicated slot. A report (in Dutch) by Galaxy Club states the new colour options that will be available with the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. The vanilla Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy S22+ are said to come in Black, Green, Pink Gold, and White colour options. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is reported to get Black, Dark Red, and White colour options. The Green colourway is speculated to be similar to the Phantom Green colour available on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 — launched in India in August. The Pink Gold colour option is also said to be different from the one found on the Galaxy S21 series. The report also mentions that since Samsung is still far from launching the Galaxy S22 series, it is possible that it may add more new colour options. It is also possible that Samsung may exclusively sell some colour options only through its official channels. Since there's no official confirmation, this information should be taken with a pinch of salt Through a post on Weibo, tipster Ice Universe has shared that two of his sources have confirmed that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will support the S Pen stylus. Unlike the Galaxy S21 Ultra — that also came with an S Pen support but was sold as an accessory — the Galaxy S22 Ultra is said to come with a dedicated slot in the body that will house the stylus. The tipster also mentions that the corners of the smartphone could be less rounded-off than the Galaxy S21 series but also not as sharp-edged as a Galaxy Note smartphone. The integration of the S Pen in the Galaxy S22 Ultra's body is said to be done by using a 19.3:9 aspect ratio for the display. Even with the housing for S Pen taking up space in the Galaxy S22 Ultra's frame, the tipster mentions that it will get a 5,000mAh battery — also seen in a 3C listing for the smartphone.
  3. A newly-emerged software startup has developed a proprietary case management platform built for patient services. It's called P3 Technology and it was founded by industry veteran Heather Rose in 2019. She has two decades of patient services experience, leading operations for one of the largest providers in the industry, according to a news release. Rose has been consulting with multiple pharmaceutical companies over the past two years, and identifying several opportunities to better serve them and the patients they helped. She found the current customer relationship management (CRM) options in the market do not support the business and its processes, are difficult to use with rigid workflows, fail to automate tedious tasks and generate high on-going third party costs. Heather Rose Heather Rose, founder, P3 Technology P3 Technology “P3 was born out of a passion to empower our customers,” Rose said in the release. “When working in a system 40 hours a week, it’s really important that it’s not frustrating to use. "We believe people should enjoy using software and now through P3, they have an option that is intuitive, customizable and easy-to-use. Our customers are empowered to establish the process and business rules unique to their products and patients, and not be forced to modify them to fit within the technology they’re using.” Rose partnered with David Galownia, CEO of Louisville-based Slingshot, and he became P3 Technology’s chief technology officer. Galownia told me he and Rose had worked together nearly a decade ago at her former employer RxCrossroads (now CoverMyMeds after an acquisition by McKesson four years ago). Slingshot, then igNew, was involved in helping Heather's team with various tech projects including physician and patient web portals and modifications to its internal case management system. The two stayed connected over the years and Galownia decided to join the new software startup after hearing about Rose's idea. “I was just as excited as Heather when she first came to me about this idea,” Galownia said. “I joined her team as the CTO because I wanted to help bring the tech to life. The system fills a huge hole in the industry and represents a huge step up in terms of usability and affordability compared to what is currently out there. P3's platform, built by Slingshot's team, is designed to drive down service times, increase reliability, improve ease-of-use and reduce technology costs. The system is fully developed and ready for demos. Galownia added he and Rose have bootstrapped funding for the P3 Technology so far, having chose not to seek investors to avoid outside influence. "We are taking a methodical approach, growing at a controlled pace, to ensure we nail the product and exceed customer expectations," he said. "We intend to reinvest revenue for the first few years to continue to enhance and evolve the product.
  4. GOLDEN, Colo. — A guided tour walks by Arapahoe Street in Golden, stopping to hear the history of the gold rush town, given by a man in a cowboy hat and tweed vest. They talk about the 1850’s and the history of how the area was founded, as they sit in the literal shadow of another piece of Golden’s history: the family-owned hardware store behind them. “A lot of history that goes way back,” Steve Shaefer said with a smile. While the town itself was founded by gold rushers and settlers, it was also built, in some small part, using the tools and materials from Meyer Hardware. “My grandparents started the store back in 1945,” Schaefer, now the owner, told Denver7. It started in the 40s along Washington Avenue, at the base of the -known Golden Arch. The store would expand to take up several storefronts along the main street, and would lead to the building of a new store in the 1970s. “I would say it’s definitely a mainstay, one of the foundation businesses of the town,” Steve said. Meyer Hardware would be passed down over three generations, in operation for 76 years. “I’ve been here actually 56 years. I started here when I was 10 years old,” Steve added. But, like the gold rushers before him, time catches up. “It’s been a bittersweet decision to make,” the owner said. Meyer Hardware is now in its final days. Saturday will be the last day in business. “People ask me why are we getting out. That’s the hard part,” Steve said. “It’s time to step back while I have my health and be able to spend time with my family and my grandkids.” Following a liquidation sale, the store, once full of 60,000 pieces of merchandise, sits almost empty. It could be managed and manned by Steve and maybe one more employee, yet the store’s full staff is still there, working their normal shifts. “Many have been here many, many years. They're very dedicated and supportive," he said. "I wanted to make it right for them.” Steve calls the staff a family, and part of it is family. His brother Jim has worked at the store for 49 years. “He’s been an integral part of Meyer Hardware,” the owner said, When the store closes its doors, tour guides that walk by may not include it in their spiel. But that doesn’t mean the store will simply disappear. “We’ve been in contact with the (history) museum. There will be things we will be donating to that to try to continue the legacy of the Meyer family,” Steve said. Seventy-six years is a long time for a family-run business to be in business. After that much time, putting more than a half a century in himself, Steve came to a difficult but simple
  6. I have always been a big advocate of youth sports. It might be because I played organized baseball and basketball from early grade school through high school. Things were much different 40 years ago than they are today. There were not nearly as many club and travel teams in the 1980s like you see now. Also, many kids played multiple sports throughout the year instead of concentrating on just one sport like you see today. The biggest change from my childhood to today’s youth sports is the technology that is available for athletes. Up until about 10 years ago, the only way kids improved at playing a sport was to practice. Some would also notice a change if they encountered a growth spurt, which is still true today. However, technology has come a long way over the years, and now every athlete has video analysis and high-tech computer programs that analyze every aspect of their game and can help improve their overall performance. That is a game changer in the sports world and so many youngsters are taking advantage of the new technology available to them, even though the cost of such equipment is a major investment for their parents. The advancement in technology came around the same time as the physical appearance of the youth athlete began to change. About 25 years ago when Tiger Woods took the golf world by storm, his physical appearance was a big change from the typical golfer of that time. Tiger was strong and lean, and he had a personal trainer to help him transform his body. Soon, every professional athlete in all sports began to change their training regimen and emulate Woods. Instead of football players being the only sport where teenage athletes needed to lift weights, you started to see the same trend develop in baseball, basketball and other high school sports. Core strength is a huge part of athletic development from the age of 13 and up. As the parents of a 9-year old boy, my wife and I have encouraged him to play as many sports as he wants to. However, we have noticed how competitive youth sports has become for even boys and girls as young as 5. Many of these youngsters now play travel or club ball, and their families spend thousands of dollars every year so they can compete all over the country. While I appreciate and admire the commitment that so many parents devote to their children, I worry that some could see their kids get tired of playing sports before they enter their teenage years because they spend all of their time practicing and competing in games. It is also why I think multiple sports is a must for any child younger than 13. ___ Since 1997, Steve Kaplowitz has hosted “Sportstalk” from 4 to 7 p.m. weekdays on 600 ESPN El Paso. link ; http://www.elpasoinc.com/lifestyle/kappys-corner-time-technology-changing-youth-sports/article_f634acfa-1d59-11ec-b20b-1fcc2cadebf0.html
  7. Huawei executive was arrested in Vancouver back in 2018 on a U.S. extradition request Chinese tech executive Meng Wanzhou has reached a deferred prosecution agreement with the U.S government, resolving the U.S. fraud charges against her and clearing the way for Canada to drop its extradition proceedings. As part of that arrangement, Meng pleaded not guilty in a U.S. court today to multiple fraud charges. The Huawei chief financial officer entered the plea during a virtual appearance in a New York courtroom. She was charged with bank fraud, wire fraud and conspiracies to commit bank and wire fraud more than two and a half years ago. David Kessler, an attorney with the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York, told the court the deferred prosecution agreement (DPA) will last four years — from the time of her arrest on Dec. 1. 2018 to Dec 1, 2022. A copy of the agreement has not been made public yet. Kessler said that if Meng complies with her obligations, the U.S. will move to dismiss the charges against her at the end of the deferral period. If she doesn't, she can still be prosecuted. Kessler also said that, once the DPA is agreed to, the U.S. will "promptly" tell the Canadian minister of justice it is withdrawing the extradition request. U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly said she accepts the terms of the agreement. The matter will be moved to a B.C. court at 5 p.m. ET today. Today's developments could mark a new phase in the strained relationship between the Canadian and Chinese governments. The 49-year-old Meng was arrested at Vancouver's international airport on Dec. 1, 2018 on a U.S. extradition request on allegations that she lied to a Hong Kong banker in August 2013 about Huawei's control of a subsidiary accused of violating U.S. sanctions against Iran. A few days later, Canadians Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig were detained in China in what is widely seen as an act of retaliation by Beijing against Canada. Questions turn to release of Canadians Both men were charged with espionage. Spavor has been sentenced to 11 years in prison. Kovrig has yet to be sentenced; his trial wrapped in March. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has called the charges "trumped-up." China has long claimed that the cases of Spavor and Kovrig are not linked to Meng's case. Colin Robertson, who served as a Canadian diplomat in China, said he expects talks between Washington and Beijing will now pivot to returning the two men home. "You would get the plea by Meng Wanzhou and then at some later date we would see the two Michaels deported back to Canada, but I would not expect it to follow in a matter of days," he told CBC's The Early Edition. "This would be a negotiation involving Canada but it would be principally between the U.S. and China." link : https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/meng-wanzhou-us-court-1.6188093

  9. After Bentley, Ford, Jaguar and Lotus, it's Volvo's turn to announce its desire to go all-electric, starting in 2030. We suspected it a little, here we have now the confirmation: Volvo will indeed go electric, and this definitively. It is in a press release published this morning that the Swedish brand confirmed this news, announcing that it will no longer offer any model powered by a thermal engine by 2030. Suffice to say that it is tomorrow, on a scale of the automotive market. A transition that was to be expected, however, as the brand has been focusing on electrification for many years.of its range, while all models currently sold have their hybrid alternative. These versions should therefore also soon disappear, since only electric vehicles will remain at the start of the next decade. A great development, all in all quite logical for the manufacturer, which then follows in the footsteps of other brands which have also chosen to take this turn. => Discover all the manufacturers who will soon become 100% electric For now, the only zero-emission model present in the range is the Volvo XC40 Recharge , powered by an electric motor of 408 horsepower, associated with a 78 kWh battery. The catalog should nevertheless quickly grow, as the brand has just lifted the veil on a brand new zero-emission model, the C40. The first vehicle in the range designed solely with an electric motor, this coupe SUV is then able to cover approximately 420 kilometers on a single charge, thanks to its battery with a capacity identical to that of the XC40. Later, a total of seven vehicles will appear, as a teaser had shown, illustrating several silhouettes. Strong ambitions According to the manufacturer's forecasts, half of its sales should be made in electric by 2025, while the rest will be hybrid, while simple thermal engines should start to disappear very quickly. This is already the case for diesel, which is no longer offered on the very latest models, and which should therefore accelerate its decline in the years to come, while this fuel is increasingly criticized by our leaders. Volvo is therefore betting everything on the rapid development of the charging infrastructure network , "promoting the transition to electric mobility for all", as the brand specifies in its press release. Its CEO Hakan Samuelsson has indeed declared that “thehe vehicles equipped with an internal combustion engine have no long-term future […] We are firmly committed to becoming a 100% electric vehicle manufacturer by 2030. This will enable us to meet the expectations of our customers and be part of the solution in the fight against climate change ”. The Scandinavian firm then follows in the footsteps of several other manufacturers such as Alpine, Jaguar , Ford, Lotus and Bentley, which are also looking to a massive electrification of their range in the years to come. In addition, Volvo wants to go even further in its modernization, by only selling its electric cars online and no longer in classic dealerships. The brand indeed wants to simplify the purchasing process for customers, while its boss announces that " instead of thousands of options, you will have a kind of dish of the day with good combinations that our customers can choose, with a delivery fast. But we will also be able to build cars à la carte ”.

If you've noticed billboards around Buffalo teasing something called "Buffalo Kids," this weekend you'll actually be able to go see what all the hype is about. Westside Gunn, the Buffalo-native rapper and member of hip-hop group Griselda, is opening a brick and mortar store for his lifestyle brand, named Buffalo Kids. The brand features, as the name implies, apparel inspired by the Queen City. Buffalo Kids will open in the Walden Galleria on the ground floor near Starbucks on Saturday, March 6 at 9 a.m. The store will have specific rules to help with social distancing, such as time limits for groups in the store, cash won't be accepted, and masks will be required. “I’m excited to bring my vision to the City of Buffalo, this was a dream of mine and I’m trying to lead by example to show every Buffalo Kid with hard work, anything is possible,” says Gunn. Westside Gunn will sell his merch, the Buffalo Kids brand, his wrestling company’s clothing line Fourth Rope, and Griselda merch by Fashion Rebels. The rapper hopes to host future meet and greets with celebrities in the store. The store also says customers are allowed to take photos in the store. Buffalo Kids says they strive to create apparel of high quality and claim that their online offerings are always in high demand. As of Tuesday, it appears most of the Buffalo Kids website is sold out. The store will have a limit of one of each item per customer.
  11. The spread of highly contagious coronavirus variants is threatening to fuel a "potential fourth surge of cases" in the US, a top health official has warned. The head of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said she was concerned by recent Covid-19 data. Dr Rochelle Walensky said about 70,000 new cases a day had been recorded last week - "a very high number". There were nearly 2,000 deaths a day in the same period, she added. "Please hear me clearly: at this level of cases, with variants spreading, we stand to completely lose the hard-earned ground we have gained," Dr Walensky said. "These variants are a very real threat to our people and our progress." There are many different versions, or variants, of Covid-19 circulating, but health experts are particularly concerned about a few which appear to be more contagious, including those first detected in the UK, South Africa and Brazil. The CDC has predicted the highly contagious B.1.1.7 variant first found in the UK will become the dominant strain in the US this month. Given this, Dr Walensky said she was "really worried" about reports of US states "rolling back the exact public health measures we have recommended to protect people from Covid-19". "We have the ability to stop a potential fourth surge of cases in this country. Please stay strong in your conviction," she said. Imagining what 500,000 lost lives look like In total, the US has recorded more than 28 million infections and 500,000 deaths related to Covid-19, according to World Health Organization (WHO) data. How big a threat are variants in the US? Daily infections and deaths fell steeply after a peak in January, when vaccinations against the disease started to be ramped up. But the CDC says, until more people are vaccinated, variants could drive a spike in cases, threatening health systems already under strain. More than 2,463 infections involving variants of concern have been reported, according to CDC data. Most of those cases - at least 2,400 - are of the UK variant. Coronavirus variants: The science explained What are the Brazil, South Africa and UK variants and will vaccines work? The true number of people infected by variants in the US is thought to be higher. There is no evidence that any of the variants causes much more serious illness for most people who become infected. Scientists believe current vaccines do offer protection against variants as well. How are vaccinations going in the US? As of Monday, the US had administered more than 76 million doses of vaccine, CDC data showed. Overall, the US has given the most doses of any country in the world. But when breaking the figures down by po[CENSORED]tion, looking at doses administered per 100 people, the US ranked fourth behind the UK, the UAE and Israel, according to Our World in Data. Among the vaccinated in the US are former President Donald Trump and former First Lady Melania Trump, according to reports. They were both vaccinated at the White House in January, an adviser told the New York Times and other US media outlets. It was not clear which vaccine they had received, but only jabs made by Pfizer and Moderna had been approved by regulators in January. A third, single-shot vaccine developed by Johnson & Johnson was approved for use in the US on Saturday. Jeff Zients, co-ordinator of the White House coronavirus response team, said the vaccine would start to be delivered "as early as tomorrow". About 3.9 million doses of the vaccine will be distributed across the country in the coming days, he said.

  13. The Estonian won Sunday the Arctic Rally, the second round of the WRC world championship contested behind closed doors in Finland. An event that did not smile at all on the French world champion. The Arctic Rally, which replaced the Swedish Rally canceled due to a pandemic, delighted Ott Tänak. The 2019 world champion won this unprecedented round in the WRC after a perfectly started race on Friday, through the snow-covered forests of Lapland. “We had a very good weekend, nothing too much, just one mistake yesterday,” commented the Estonian at the finish of the last special. A success that allows him to forget his abandonment on the side of Monte-Carlo at the start of the season a big month ago. A victory built without taking excessive risk, as he confided on Saturday evening with a smile: “We especially had to go at the end of the afternoon and we made no mistakes. We were still attacking a little this morning, but it was important to avoid the pitfalls in the afternoon. The reigning world champion, Sébastien Ogier, finished, far behind, more than 10 minutes from the lead, due to an exit from the road. 200 meters from the finish of the last special on Saturday, the Frenchman's Toyota finished its race in a wall of snow. He crossed the finish line about twenty minutes later. “We started a little too far to the side and we hung up the snow wall, it's a shame but it's a weekend to forget,” commented Ogier. This Sunday, the Gapençais managed current affairs, without succeeding in really shining on the power stage where he only grabs the point of 5th place. “There was still too much sweep. I couldn't do more, I was at the limit. It's like that ! It was good to come here, it
  14. There isn’t a better time than now to start getting fit with health information and products so easily accessible. Simply incorporate the basics into your daily routine — good nutrition, adequate exercise and a daily supplement — and start down the path toward better health. Plan a nutritious diet The Dietary Guidelines for Americans describes a healthy diet as one that emphasizes fruits, vegetables, lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, nuts, whole grains and fat-free or low-fat milk products. It should be low in saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, salt and added sugar. Warm weather makes fresh produce more easily accessible. Eat more fruits and vegetables by setting freshly washed and prepared produce on the kitchen counter or at eye level in the fridge. At every meal, make sure half your plate is made up of fruit and vegetable servings. One-fourth of your plate at every meal should be made up of grains, such as wheat, rice, oats, cornmeal or barley. People who eat whole grains as part of a healthy diet have a reduced risk of some chronic diseases. The remaining one-fourth of your plate should be lean or low-fat cuts of meat, plant-based protein or seafood. Get regular exercise The Department of Health and Human Services recommends an adequate amount of exercise every day. This guide can point to the right amount of exercise to add to your schedule: Get at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity every week. For best results, spread the time out over several days. Do strength training exercises at least twice a week. Lifting weights builds muscle, which means the body burns more calories — even at rest. It’s important to keep in mind that when people are active, they produce more free radicals. The antioxidants found in supplements can help buffer the negative effects of the workout. Improving your diet, exercising regularly, taking a daily supplement and getting enough restorative sleep are all important steps to overall wellness. Work to incorporate each step into your daily routine until you reach your goal of good health, and find more health-conscious tips at eLivingToday.com. (Family Features)
  15. RECENT DECLINES IN KEY coronavirus metrics like cases and hospitalizations appear to be stalling at levels that are still considered high, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned on Friday. [ SEE: The Latest News on the Coronavirus Outbreak ] CDC Director Rochelle Walensky called the development a "very concerning shift in the trajectory." "Over the last few weeks, cases and hospital admissions in the United States have been coming down since early January and deaths had been declining in the past week," Walensky said at a press briefing. "But the latest data suggest that these declines may be stalling, potentially leveling off at still a very high number." Compared to last week, cases across the U.S. have been increasing over the past three days, she said. Leading infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci added that "if we plateau at 70,000, we are at that very precarious position that we were right before the fall surge, where anything that could perturb that could give us another surge." Although deaths fluctuate more than infections and hospitalizations, the most recent seven-day average – approximately 2,000 per day – is slightly higher than earlier in the week, according to Walensky. The trend comes as over 14% of the U.S. po[CENSORED]tion has received one or more doses of a coronavirus vaccine and nearly 7% have received both doses, according to a CDC tracker. While it is still early in the vaccine rollout process, it is unclear what effect – if any – the vaccines have had yet on key metrics. [ MAP: The Spread of Coronavirus ] Walensky suggested the developments could be due to the spread of highly transmissible variants. "We may now be seeing the beginning effects of these variants in the most recent data," she said. The CDC previously predicted that the variant first found in the U.K. would become the dominant strain circulating in the U.S. in March. Just this week new variants were documented in California and New York.

A team of researchers from Stanford University, working with associates from the Gladstone Institute of Data Science and Biotechnology and King Abdulaziz University, has developed a software system that can be used for integrative single-cell chromatin accessibility analysis. In their paper published in the journal Nature Genetics, the group describes the software, the platforms on which it can be run, and how it might be used by researchers. Currently, researchers are able to produce very large datasets containing information about single-cell chromatin, the material that makes up chromosomes, such as DNA and RNA. Unfortunately, tools that allow for analyzing such data are limited. One of the main problems is the amount of additional data that is created as part of such analyses—it grows at such a rate that it overwhelms computer memory. In this new effort, the researchers have overcome that problem with the development of a new software product called ArchR. The new software is geared toward research involving the way that genes are regulated by the physical arrangement of DNA. ArchR can be used to analyze single-cell data on chromatin accessibility—it shows the ways that DNA can be involved with transcription. More specifically, it can be used to analyze single-cell clustering, double removal, cellular trajectory identification and unified peak set generation. Making the software even more useful is that it can operate without the need for a high-performance computer. The researchers on the project also claim that it has an easy-to-use interface that for carrying out a variety of analysis scenarios. They also claim that the new software runs some of the same types of analysis schemes as other systems, but faster. And most importantly, because of the way it was designed, memory issues will no longer be a problem. Testing showed it capable of working with much larger datasets than current systems. The researchers note that the new system provides an easier way to combine transcriptome and epigenome analyses. They suggest that their new software has practical applications for researchers in the field. They next plan to add more functionality to the system.

  19. I love mechs. But I also love a good bug. Thankfully, with Stonefly, I don't have to choose between the two, with a first look at Flight School Studio's chill action-adventure showing off some delightfully insectoid robots to kick about in. Something wonderfully catastrophic must've happened while I wasn't looking, because humanity's been shrunk to the size of ants. To get around this, folks get around in bug-like mechs. As one of these pilots, you'll be cobbling together your own machine to hunt down your dad's lost mech—reworking and rebuilding your robot to suit whatever challenge faces you. I do adore these robotic battlemechs, too. It's such a delightful approach to killer robots, creating mechanical multilegged beasties that skitter and crawl over the game's world. Adding new components at your tent will give your rig new abilities, and improve your survivability in more dangerous environments. Of course, you're not the only bug in town. But rather than just blasting up other insects, Stonefly features a diverse menagerie of bugs with their own characteristics, and you're encouraged to use those to shoo them (not shoot them) away. Bugs can be distracted, or flipped over, or blown off the branch with a well-placed gust of air. A more humane form of combat, really. It's also bloody gorgeous—which, honestly, should be expected from the team behind the striking Creature In The Well. Stonefly sports a similar kind of bold, folded environments, scratched with vibrant colours. It lends a phenomenal sense of scale to the game, and in the trailer at least, I really do feel like I'm watching teeny tiny beetles duke it out. Stonefly is out this summer on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
  20. «Since I was a child I have been a Ferrari fan, and my commitment must be maximum, like yours. We are part of a team that matters more than us. We are interpreters of an enormous, moving passion, but we are also veterans of disappointments that must not be repeated. We have an imperative: to represent Ferrari, to honor the uniform we wear , because the Prancing Horse is the emblem of Italian excellence in the world. I expect fewer and fewer mistakes, more quality and healthy competitive joy »: these are the thoughtful, profound words that Ferrari team principal, Mattia Binotto , has chosen to set the stage for Ferrari's F1 2021 season. Ferrari's first official 2021 chapter in Formula 1 took place today, with the presentation of the team . An appetizer that in Maranello they wanted to offer fans before the main course - this year's single-seater, the SF21 - to be served cold, almost like a revenge, on 10 March, a few days before the pre-season tests in Bahrain. And, regardless of the car, there are indeed some news. First of all, the presence in the team of a fresh face, that of Carlos Sainz, who replaces Sebastian Vettel alongside the man of the future of the Red, Charles Leclerc. But changes were also made to the organization chart, in particular as regards the technical area, with the identification of "clear roles and responsibilities" in four macro areas. And, of no small importance, the team principal Mattia Binotto sees his baggage of responsibility lightened, with the commercial aspect transferred to Nicola Boari. All to the advantage of supervising the crucial work in view of 2022, a task to which Binotto will give priority over the presence on the track at each GP. Binotto - it was already announced last year - will not always be on the circuit. The racing director, Laurent Mekies , will take his place , assisted by the deus ex machina of strategies, the Spaniard Iñaki Rueda, in the role of sports director. In short, not insignificant jolts, which in turn could be an appetizer of a more substantial change. But here we enter the field of suppositions. Better then to focus on the declarations. Starting with those of Captain Binotto: «2021 will be an important year, with many challenges. Our car comes from last year's car, and there is a budget cap, to be tackled with determination. It is a non-trivial exercise. 2022 will instead see a completely new car. We will face a long and bumpy path. We will make mistakes, even unacceptable ones. But we must learn to grow, with the right spirit. As for an orchestra, the team also needs the best instruments. Not only thanks to Ferrari, but also to our partners. On Charles and Carlos we want to found our future ». The newcomer, Carlos Sainz , has a love for motorsport that goes back a long way. «My passion for racing started when I was a child. When I was two I got on my car, thanks to my father. As a child, I fell in love with F1 seeing Alonso and Schumacher at the Spanish GP ». And now, a pivotal moment in his career, with that Ferrari that « changes your life when you sign . In December I met all the people in the factory, engineers, mechanics. The first time you put on the red jumpsuit is an unforgettable moment ». The main objective is clear: « In five years, I want to be world champion. Driving for the most important team in the world is a great responsibility. Now we are trying to improve, and teamwork is needed. And when the results arrive, we will be even more determined for the future. For Charles there is respect, but also the desire to beat him ». Even Charles Leclerc seen disrupt the lives coming to Ferrari. «I thought I knew what it meant to sign with Ferrari, but that's not the case. Here everything is optimized for performance, it's a unique atmosphere . I can't complain about my job, 99% of the time I do it with a smile on my face. There is maximum attention to detail, everyone pushes to the limit. I see F1 as a team sport, not an individual one. And Ferrari is a family ». Leclerc seems to have grown up after a not easy 2020: «I worked a lot on tire management, I try to be just the right aggressive. Every mistake has great consequences, we cannot afford to lose focus even for a moment ». The crossroads of his experience in Ferrari, however, was another. «Everything changed after Monza 2019 - says Charles - it was the best for me. People stop me more on the street, and you can feel the passion of the fans in Italy. Ferrari cheering is almost like a religion in Italy, it is a great honor to be part of this family ». A blind passion, like that of the most tormented and deepest loves. And Mattia Binotto , concluding his speech at the beginning of 2021, addresses directly to "those who look at us and judge us every Sunday", with a single word. Courage. Like what Ferrari will have to find to revive its fortunes. COMMENTS

Now a new study published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology finds that adhering to generally recommended healthy lifestyle behaviors also reduces the risks for death and some major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in individuals with reduced kidney function. Investigators led by Sarah J. Schrauben, MD, of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, pooled data from 3 cardiovascular cohort studies in the United States (ARIC, MESA, and CHS) involving 27,271 participants. Kidney function categories were 60 or higher, 45 to less than 60, and less than 45 mL/min/1.73 m2, according to the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equation for estimating glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Survival Adhering to recommended lifestyle behaviors was associated with lower risks for all-cause mortality, regardless of eGFR. Death risk was 54% lower for former or never smokers compared with current smokers (reference). Compared with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m2 or higher (reference), a BMI of at least 18.5 but less than 30 kg/m2 was significantly associated with a 16% decreased risk of death. Moderate or no daily alcohol intake was significantly associated with a 13% decreased risk of death compared with excessive intake (reference). A diet score of 2 or higher was significantly associated with a 7% decreased risk of death compared with a score of 0-1 (reference). Any moderate to vigorous physical activity, compared with none (reference), was significantly associated with a 20% lower death risk. Adhering to all 5 lifestyle behaviors reduced the risk for death by a significant 52% compared with adopting none. For the diet score, 1 point was given for each of the following components recommended for the general po[CENSORED]tion: fruits and vegetables (4.5 cups or servings/d or more), fish (3.5 oz or 2 servings/wk or more), whole grains (3 one-oz servings/d), sodium (less than 1500 mg/d), and sugar-sweetened beverages (36 oz or 4 glasses/wk or less). Moderate alcohol intake was defined as up to 2 drinks for men or 1 drink for women per day. Today’s Top Picks for You on Renal and Urology News SHPT in Nondialysis CKD Associated With Major Adverse Events Dapagliflozin Under Review for Chronic Kidney Disease Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation May Not Reduce Renal Function in Sickle Cell Disease CONTINUE READING Cardiovascular Events Cardiovascular endpoints included a composite of major coronary events (myocardial infarction, fatal coronary heart disease, or revascularization procedure such as coronary angioplasty), as well as ischemic stroke, and heart failure events. Regardless of eGFR, not smoking currently and any moderate to vigorous physical activity were significantly associated with a 38% and 15% reduced risk of major coronary events and a 52% and 14% reduced risk of heart failure events, respectively, compared with reference values. Any moderate to vigorous physical activity, compared with none, also correlated with a 20% decreased risk of ischemic stroke among those with an eGFR of 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 or higher. A healthy BMI of at least 18.5 but less than 30 kg/m2 was associated with a 13% decreased risk of heart failure events, regardless of eGFR. Remarkably, moderate to no daily alcohol (versus excessive consumption) was significantly associated with a 29% increased risk of major coronary events, regardless of eGFR. The investigators found no significant associations between adherence to the American Heart Association’s dietary pattern and lower cardiovascular risks possibly because they merged the intermediate and ideal categories to define a healthy diet (a score of 2 or higher rather than a score of higher than 4). Cardiovascular risks decreased as the number of healthy behaviors increased. Adherence to all 5 healthy behaviors was significantly associated with 27%, 38%, and 44% reduced risks for major coronary events, ischemic stroke, and heart failure, respectively, compared with adopting none of the behaviors. That benefits of a healthy lifestyle did not vary by kidney function may reflect improvement in traditional cardiovascular disease risk factors, such as hypertension, obesity, insulin resistance, and hyperlipidemia, according to the investigators. However, healthy behaviors may also mitigate cardiovascular risk factors unique to kidney disease, such as albuminuria and mediators of inflammation and oxidative stress, they stated. “Our study supports the importance of lifestyle as a potentially modifiable risk factor for individuals with and without kidney disease,” Dr Schrauben’s team concluded. Clinicians may want to prioritize counseling patients with CKD about healthy behaviors with appropriate referrals. 22. The Human Rights Watch Unit of the University of London completed an investigation that lasted for 8 months into the killing of Palestinian Ahmed Erekat last June by the Israeli army at a military checkpoint known as the "Container" in the south of the West Bank. The investigation indicated that the accident was accidental, and Erekat had no intention of deliberately colliding with the Israeli soldiers, which refutes the Israeli story, which announced at the time that the young man was killed for carrying out a car-ramming operation that resulted in the injury of a female soldier with minor injuries. The investigation unit relied on advanced techniques to reconstruct the scene and use what was photographed by passers-by with their mobile phones and video clips published by the Israeli army from the surveillance cameras deployed at the military checkpoint. British accidents expert Jeremy J. Power focused on 4 points to prove the nature of the accident, including: the speed of the car in which Ahmed Erekat was traveling, the Israeli army’s use of what he described as lethal force and neglecting to provide urgent medical assistance to him after he was shot and fell to the ground. I conducted an interview with one of the researchers in the unit and she gave me an explanation of the results of the investigation carried out by the unit, where she said: “We relied on what we have video clips that were published immediately after the accident, and through our monitoring of the movement of the car, we noticed that it did not accelerate significantly and collided with the Israeli soldier at a low speed. This is not the behavior of a driver who intends to cause severe damage to his target, in addition to firing 6 bullets in just two seconds at Ahmed. The first two bullets hit him in the chest area and the rest of the bullets hit separate parts of his body before falling into the ground. The family of Ahmed Erekat, along with the Palestinian Al-Haq Foundation for Human Rights, provided assistance and the information it had regarding the course of the investigation, hoping to speed up the release of the body of Ahmed, who had been detained since the date of the accident. I went to the family's home in the town of Abu Dis, east of Jerusalem, in which the scene on the day of the accident turned from joy to relief. The garden of the house, which was prepared to receive visitors congratulating the wedding of Ahmed's sister, received crowds of mourners for his loss. In the same garden, I sat with the father, Mustafa Erekat, who told me: “I am happy with the results of the recent investigation, and I do not ask for much. I just want to receive my son’s body for his riches. We know that he was killed in cold blood and with the aim of training the Israeli army soldiers, and we will continue to demand the release of his body.” He pointed out that the family submitted a petition to the Israeli court after the killing of his son Ahmed to demand receipt of his body, but the court sessions were postponed for several times. Deliberate run over' The Israeli army confirmed the conduct of lengthy investigations into what it considered a car-ramming operation carried out by Palestinian Ahmed Erekat last June against Israeli soldiers at a military checkpoint in the southern West Bank. The army told the BBC: "The run-over operation was deliberate and posed a threat to the lives of our soldiers who shot and killed Ahmed. The detention of his body continues in coordination with the political level and the Israeli Supreme Court, which is looking into the legality of the file." The army indicated that there is a phenomenon of run-over operations that kill and injure many Israelis in various areas of the West Bank. Human rights demands The Palestinian Campaign for Body Recovery announced the existence of about 72 bodies of Palestinians who were killed in various incidents that have been detained by the Israeli authorities since 2015. The campaign, together with local and international human rights organizations, calls for an urgent international and legal intervention to end the policy of detaining the bodies. The director of programs at the Palestinian Al-Haq Foundation, Tahsin Alyan, explained: “The Israeli authorities implemented in October 2015 the policy of detaining the bodies, and since then Israel has been holding more than 72 Palestinian bodies in its refrigerators, which constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law and collective punishment of the families of Palestinians whose bodies are detained. I have Israel. " Palestinian figures indicate that there are more than 326 Palestinian bodies detained since the 1960s, most of them in the cemeteries called Israeli Numbers Cemeteries, and the Palestinian campaign to retrieve the bodies calls for the recovery of the bodies through more than 196 lawsuits filed in Israeli courts.

  24. At school I had a passion for maths and problem solving but if you’d asked me at that time what software engineering was, I would have drawn a blank. In an all-girls secondary school there simply wasn’t much exposure to an engineering career path. Today, I’m a software engineer at Stripe in Dublin, having recently graduated in computer science. I got into the area by signing up for an offsite computer science workshop in transition year, and loved it . I could deploy the same thinking I did in maths, but I was solving practical problems and seeing instant results on screen. I decided this was something I wanted to pursue. Read More UL software course offers work with tech giants from 1st year Since graduating, I’ve realised how many career options there are for software engineers. You can basically work anywhere in the world that uses technology, and you can have a real impact in solving some of the world’s most pressing problems. Most fifth-year students may not think that studying computer science could allow them to help fight the climate crisis or improve access to financial services around the world. But as the internet economy grows and software becomes more central, the opportunities are endless. If I had the choice at the time, Immersive Software Engineering would have been a dream course for me. To learn by building technology rather than just studying the theory, to put your skills to the test in a real working environment, to create a startup of your own; these experiences are priceless. If you’ve worked hard and are aiming for high points in your Leaving Certificate, you might be tempted to put medicine, actuarial science or law on your CAO form. But if your strengths are in problem solving and creative thinking, consider software engineering. Studying software engineering gives you the freedom to follow your passions and put your creativity to work. Sarah Sharkey is a software engineer who helped consult on the design of the new UL course.
  25. The Cabinet on Wednesday cleared production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes for pharmaceuticals and IT hardware, including laptops, which would cost the government as much as Rs 22,350 crore. Shedding the historical, costly bias in favour of small companies, the government has earmarked big bucks for big firms with elevated export potential. Under the scheme for pharmaceuticals, as much as Rs 11,000 crore (73% of the total incentives of Rs 15,000 crore) will be extended to eligible applicants whose global manufacturing revenue was in excess of Rs 5,000 crore in FY20. Similarly, the firms with manufacturing revenue of Rs 500-5,000 crore in FY20 will be granted incentives of Rs 2,250 crore. RELATED NEWS Govt to consider up to 20 times incremental sales value for computing telecom PLIGovt to consider up to 20 times incremental sales value for computing telecom PLINew intermediary rules: Social media players welcome regulations to address 'challenges'New intermediary rules: Social media players welcome regulations to address 'challenges' The relatively small ones, with FY20 revenue below Rs 500 crore, will get Rs 1,750 crore. Any unutilised incentives, meant for the firms with revenue in the range of Rs 500 crore to Rs 5,000 crore, could later be distributed among larger players. The PLI scheme for manufacturing of IT hardware including laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs and servers, has an outlay of Rs 7,350 crore over a four-year period and a total of 15 companies, five global players and 10 domestic firms, are expected to benefit from it. The incentives are expected to generate additional investments of `2,700 crore and result in incremental production of `3.26 lakh crore, 75% of which for exports. The government expects the scheme to reduce India’s import dependence for IT hardware in a major way – currently, 80% of the country’s laptop and tablet demand is met through imports. The scheme, to commence from April 1, will enable domestic value addition in IT hardware to rise from 5-10% at present to 20%-25% by 2025. Under the scheme, incentives of 4% to 1% on net incremental sales over the base year (2019-20) will be given to the beneficiary companies. It is also expected that the scheme could generate over 1.8 lakh direct and indirect jobs over the four- year period. The duration of the pharmaceutical PLI scheme will be from FY21 to FY29. This will include the period for processing of applications (FY21), optional gestation period of one year (FY22) and incentives for six years (FY23-FY28). The disbursement of incentive for sales during FY28 will take place in FY29. According to official estimates, the scheme is likely to bring in investment of Rs 15,000 crore. It will also result in total incremental sales of Rs 2.94 lakh crore and additional exports of Rs 1.96 lakh crore over six years through FY28, apart from fetching handsome amount of direct and indirect taxes. It is expected to generate a total of one lakh jobs—20,000 direct and 80,000 indirect. At the same, it will improve research and development in the critical sector and help the goal of affordable healthcare for the po[CENSORED]tion. The PLI for pharmaceuticals was one of the 13 such schemes announced by the government in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic last year. The idea is to lure mainly large companies to create “global champions” out of India that have the potential to grow in size using cutting-edge technology and can, thereby, penetrate the global value chains. The total incentives under the PLI schemes, covering sectors including telecom, electronics, auto part, pharma, chemical cells and textiles, stood at Rs 1.97 lakh crore over a five-year period. The pharmaceutical PLI scheme under three categories. The first category will include biopharmaceuticals; complex generic drugs; patented drugs or drugs nearing patent expiry; cell-based or gene therapy drugs; orphan drugs; special emptycapsules like HPMC, Pullulan, enteric, etc; complex excipients and phyto-pharmaceuticals. The second category will include active pharmaceutical ingredients and drug intermediates. The third category will cover all the drugs that are not captured in the first two, including re-purposed drugs, auto immune drugs, anti-cancer and anti-diabetic drugs. The rate of incentive for products in the first and second categories will be to the tune of 10% (of incremental sales value) for the first four years, 8% for the fifth year and 6% for the sixth year of production. The incentives for the production of the rest of the pharma products will be 5% (of incremental sales value) for first four years, 4% for the fifth year and 3% for the sixth year. The Indian pharmaceutical industry is the third-largest globally in terms of the volume term of production and is worth $40 billion in value term. The country contributes 3.5% of total drugs and medicines exported globally. Currently, India’s annual laptop imports are to the tune of Rs 29,500 crore and tablet imports are at Rs 2,870 crore. The market for IT hardware is dominated by 6-7 companies globally which account for about 70% of the world’s market share. Earlier, the government has approved two PLI schemes on similar lines, one for mobile phones and the other for telecom equipment. While the outlay for mobile phones has been kept at Rs 41,000 crore for a period of five years providing incentives ranging between 4-6%, the one for telecom equipment has an outlay of Rs 12,195 crore for a period of five years providing incentives in the range of 4-7%. In the case of mobile phones PLI, the government has already selected five global and five domestic firms, while the detailed guidelines for the telecom equipment PLI scheme is yet to be finalised. Highlighting the success of PLI scheme for mobile phones, communications IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in the last five months of scheme operation and despite challenging times, the applicant companies, including top global mobile phone companies, have produced goods worth Rs 35,000 crore and invested Rs 1,300 crore. Additional employment generation during this period stands at around 22,000 jobs.
