In 2008 two college graduates who watched too much South Park graced videogames with BoneTown, a game that looked at the Hot Coffee mod for GTA: San Andreas and said, "What if that was half the game? And there are no cars so you have to laboriously walk everywhere?" Though originally distributed via their website, BoneTown did make it onto Steam via Greenlight back in 2013, albeit in a censored version without nudity called BoneTown: Mature Edition. This summer it will return, uncensored, as BoneTown: The Second Coming Edition. According to the developers, D-Dub Software, "this re-release has given us another crack at the game many of you have played and loved for years now--and yeah, we went a little overboard. So much so that we decided this isn't the same BoneTown anymore." Apparently they'll explain what makes it different "soon". Back in the day, Dan Stapleton played BoneTown for us, saying, "Nobody should buy it on its merits as a game; it's obviously a low-budget production, with poor animation, clumsy art and not much by the way of mechanics." He found it more boring than shocking, and summed up with, "Overall, I'd say the most shocking thing about it is that it suffers from a surprising design oversight: the controls require two hands to operate." Jody is that guy who will try to convince you to play some indie game you've never heard of with a name like Extreme Meatpunks Forever. He is also on a doomed quest to play every Warhammer game.

Car thefts fell 13% last year, marked by the Covid-19 pandemic and two lockdowns . The DS7, Renault Mégane RS and Renault Clio were the most stolen cars in France in 2020, according to data from insurers analyzed and published on Friday February 19 by the magazine Auto Plus . closevolume_off The DS7 Crossback is at the top of the Auto Plus ranking with 194 flights for 10,000 insured. The large SUV of the premium brand of the Stellantis group was po[CENSORED]r, along with other similar models, from a network that was dismantled at the beginning of the year. He stole these vehicles using encoded electronic keys. "Vulnerable", "weak" opening systems The question we can ask ourselves is, why a model released in 2018, and therefore presumably invulnerable, tops this ranking? Auto Plus criticizes it for "its vulnerable opening system" which would allow it to be stolen easily and quickly with an electronic box. Even the most successful models therefore have their flaws ... Read also: Stolen cars: 5 tips to protect your vehicle The Mégane RS, the sporty version of the compact Renault, was also particularly targeted, with 179 flights for 10,000 insured. For Auto Plus, the reasons for this "po[CENSORED]rity" with thieves are clear: first, the magazine points to the fact that it is a well-rated model on the used market. But above all, he denounces the safety shortcomings characteristic of Renault cars: "Like all models of the Losange, the sportiest Renault sins by its weak opening / starting system and by the ease of access to its OBD socket (diagnostic socket , which provides access to auto information) ", explains Auto Plus. The Renault Clio 4 and Mégane 4 then arrive in a pocket square. They are very po[CENSORED]r because they sell well in spare parts. The Smart Fortwo, former champion of the classification, is ranked 5th. A classification of 165 models The annual Auto Plus ranking is produced by establishing the theft frequency (number of thefts reported to a sample of 10,000 insured vehicles) of 165 models sold in excess of 3,000 units during the year 2020. The magazine was based on figures from 14 insurance companies, mutuals and banks, covering a fleet of nearly 20 million cars.

Observing that nature has been kind to India in the form of abundant sunlight and air, he regretted that they are not being taken advantage of, leading to the occurrence of various diseases.(WIkimedia Commons ) HEALTH Vice President calls for national campaign to promote healthy lifestyle Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu called for a national campaign for motivating people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, avoid sedentary living and junk food, in view of growing incidences of non-communicable diseases in the country. PTI, Hyderabad PUBLISHED ON FEB 21, 2021 09:36 AM IST Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday called for a national campaign for motivating people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, avoid sedentary living and junk food, in view of growing incidences of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the country. The World Health Organisation data has attributed 61 per cent of all deaths in the country to NCDs like cancer, diabetes and blood pressure, he noted. "We need to go for a massive national campaign for change of life style. Also food habits.. Our forefathers who lived for thousands of years have given us wonderful food. What is lacking in India? All varieties... for all seasons with all reasons," Naidu said during his address at the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) here. Sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy food habits are linked to the increased incidence of NCDs in the country, he added. Naidu claimed that 98 per cent of rural people are not affected by the Covid-19 due to a healthy lifestyle and living close to nature. Observing that nature has been kind to India in the form of abundant sunlight and air, he regretted that they are not being taken advantage of, leading to the occurrence of various diseases. He urged the scientists to create awareness among people on making healthy choices. The Vice President also stressed the need to promote organic farming, revisit our traditional food habits and promote the consumption of protein-rich food for better health outcomes. Cautioning against the fad for instant food, he quipped "instant food means constant disease." Naidu, who inaugurated Pediatric Rare Genetic Disorders laboratory at the CDFD, asked the scientists to continue to work to develop simpler and cost-effective methods for diagnosis of various genetic diseases to help in better patient management. He lauded CDFD scientists for identifying novel genetic mutations for more than 10 disorders in India, including the identification of four new genes, which would be helpful in genetic counseling and management of diseases. He asked CDFD to create awareness among the people through media on the services it was offering on genetic diseases. Referring to the unprecedented challenges faced by humankind in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, he commended CDFD's Corona Warriors for providing accurate diagnosis of the viral infection. Pointing to the problem of increased crime rate in the world, he lauded CDFD for providing state of the art DNA fingerprinting service to courts, judiciary, National Investigating Agency (NIA) and CBI for ensuring correct judgment in criminal cases, and in providing relief to the families of disaster victims.a

The accumulation of fat in the human liver is a very dangerous health disorder, and therefore, experts advise early attention to some of the symptoms that accompany the disease, and may not receive the required attention during an early stage. There are two types of fatty liver disease : One of them is alcoholic, caused by excessive alcohol consumption, and the other is a disorder caused by other factors. In some cases, a person may be infected with this disease, and the symptoms do not appear in the first period, but his health condition worsens with the passage of time. According to data from the British healthcare company, "Bupa" , the shrinking of the testicles in a man may be a sign of fatty liver disease. Fatty liver disease leads to this change in a man's testicles, because it causes a host of hormonal changes in the body. The source adds that the symptoms do not stop there, because fatty liver disease may expand the chest tissue, while women may experience a disorder in the menstrual cycle. Other common symptoms of fatty liver disease include an itchy feeling, yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes and hair loss. I’m interested in a technology platform company that had an initial public offering late last year. This isn’t like other companies you may have heard of. Unity Software Inc. U, +2.56% provides software to create, run and monetize interactive, real-time 2D and 3D content for mobile phones, tablets, PCs, consoles, and augmented and virtual reality devices. Here’s the company’s website. A company can build a game on the Unity platform and easily deploy it across all other platforms that people play games on — from their mobile phones, to gaming consoles and, most importantly for the future, virtual reality platforms such as Facebook Inc.’s FB, -2.91% Oculus. The financial fundamentals are impressive, though the stock isn’t cheap. It’s growing revenue at 30% per year, and gross margins have widened, to nearly 80% last quarter. As such, I like the profitability potential in years ahead as more games and ideas for 3D virtual reality get built. Tens of thousands of those games will be built using Unity. In the company’s 2020 S1 filing, Unity estimated that in 2019, on a global basis, 53% of the top 1,000 games on the Apple Inc. AAPL, +0.12% App Store and Alphabet Inc.’s GOOG, -0.76% Google Play were made with Unity software. In its earnings release a couple of weeks ago, Unity said that its market share had increased to 71% of the top 1,000 games in fourth quarter of 2020. But it’s not only gaming: From the last quarterly earnings call, it seems Unity’s management team is aggressively going after non-gaming segments such as retailers and designers. Volkswagen AG VOW, +0.80% has recently used Unity’s Forma app to design a virtual e-commerce 3D showroom. Unity CEO John Riccitiello said: “Now we believe we’re in the early phases of a once-in-a-generation technology transition, in this case, a world in which the majority of digital content is two-dimensional and moving to real-time 3D. Those of you who have followed the history of technology understand that revolutions don’t happen organically. You need change agents. For real-time 3D, we’re seeing a virtuous cycle of software and hardware innovation change agents. For example, faster GPUs, 5G bandwidth, 4K displays and new XR devices are making real-time 3D from any endpoint a reality.” On the other hand, the stock is quite expensive, trading at 30 times next year’s revenue estimate. Unity isn’t profitable. The company will probably begin turning a profit in the next two or three quarters, and then the earnings per share can really start to grow in 2022 and 2023.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US President Donald Trump, Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani and UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan following the signing of the Ibrahim Agreement. It is not until six months ago that the leaders of the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain signed a peace agreement with the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in the White House, but there is a new resident in the Oval Office and other elections coming in Israel. Nevertheless, it appears that the future of the "Abraham Agreement", which normalized relations between Israel and the other two countries for the first time in their history, is secure. Not only that, Morocco and Sudan signed similar agreements, but trade agreements worth millions of dollars were signed between the players. Last December alone, it was estimated that 60,000 Israeli tourists visited Dubai, and this figure does not include business delegations that flow back and forth "We have a lot in common," says Fleur Hassan-Nahum, deputy mayor of Jerusalem and one of the founders of the Emirates-Israel Business Center "The moment peace was announced, people were quick to get to know each other," she says. "We started to create forums on WhatsApp and hold meetings via Zoom, and this process had its pace and activity." Agreements have been announced in areas including banking, football, cybersecurity and food technology. Restaurants serving "kosher" food are now being announced in Dubai, and two sports halls have opened to teach "Krav Maga," the self-defense sport developed by the Israelis

MMO stories don't get to end. The demands of a live-service game require there to always be more content, the worlds of Destiny 2 and World Of Warcraft bound to never know peace until their servers finally go dark. Which is why it came as such surprise when Square Enix revealed that Final Fantasy 14 would be closing the book on a ten-year plot with its next expansion, Endwalker. Speaking to PC Gamer, game director Naoki Yoshida explains that it's precisely because of FF14's strong emphasis on story that it needs to wrap things up. While Square Enix could easily trail things off indefinitely, the game's story would ultimately suffer not being brought to a close. "I've made it clear that we will continue creating new content, but specifically for Endwalker, it was exciting for me and my team to think about what kind of ending we would depict through the story with this kind of game." Normally, FF14 expansions come in two phases—the expansion itself, and a post-release "season" of patches wrapping up the plot. Endwalker, however, is breaking from that mould by wrapping everything up at release, a decision Yoshida feels necessary to make the ending land. "This is not simply the finale of a single expansion pack, but the end of a long-running saga, so I wanted to make it as grandiose as we could. Since we allocate the most development resources into creating the expansion pack itself, doing this as part of Endwalker could achieve that wish. "Utilising three additional patches worth of resources would result in more to work with, but that would also mean we would have to stretch the story out over the course of those patches as we normally do. In this instance, we wanted our players to experience everything to the end in one exhilarating blast, and so we decided to mix things up and conclude the arc with 6.0." Of course, that focus on story makes getting into FF14 a daunting prospect. There are hundreds of hours of narrative twists and turns spread across four (soon to be five) distinct arcs, and it'd be easy to see a post-Endwalker reset as a way to create a fresh jumping-on point for newcomers. But Yoshida isn't concerned, saying that the decision to start anew wasn't driven by a desire to cater to new players. The feedback overwhelmingly seems to be that while new players are brought in by the latest expansion, they don't much mind starting afresh from A Realm Reborn. "Fundamentally, Final Fantasy 14's story can be thought of a TV series that has different seasons. We are not forcing people to play all of the previous expansions—however, we do want to offer the opportunity for players to enjoy the story from the beginning, just like one would with a new show they want to watch. That’s really all there is to it." Yoshida ended on a somewhat refreshing note for seasoned MMO players. We've all burned out on the endless content churn, and the director seems surprisingly accepting of folks who've taken an extended break. The team simply hope they can tell a story worthy of luring lapsed players back to Eorzea. "I would love to tell those currently on a break from the game that there are even greater adventures and stories waiting and invite them to return to the game. I think the best way to accomplish this would be for us to make a game that is worthy of our players voicing their love for the game to let others know 'it was the best!'" Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker arrives this Fall, with Patch 5.5 laying the groundwork for the climactic expansion's storyline on April 13th.

Over the past several months, I’ve written about how software security testing has evolved to keep up with the speed of software development. That evolution is critical. Software security is important now more than ever, and its importance will only continue to grow for several reasons: • There will be more of it — hundreds of billions of lines of new code are written every year. • Software controls everything. Vehicles, home security, appliances, traffic control systems, utilities — the sky’s the limit. • The speed of development has increased by orders of magnitude in the last decade, and the software attack surface is expanding exponentially. But security teams can keep up — if they do it right. In my previous post, I focused on one of the crucial ways to do that: by ensuring that just enough security testing is done — at exactly the right place and time — throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC) and with a focus on automation. In this post, I’ll describe another enabler of security testing at the speed of development: the evolution of the software security initiative (SSI). As my company’s most recent Building Security In Maturity Model (BSIMM) report documented, SSIs are shifting from a top-down, centralized, governance-based practice to a federated operation. “Security champions” are embedded in product teams, and security is included as part of the DevOps process. MORE FOR YOU Building Resilience: The Importance Of Audit During Times Of Disruption Finding A Recipe For A More Equitable Food And Restaurant Industry Securing Your Server At The Cloud’s Edge None of this happened overnight. The evolution of the SSI has moved through three phases and is now entering a fourth. That evolution involved changes in culture, processes and technology. So let’s look at that evolution. In the first phase, the focus was on security as a cost center. The idea was to spend only as much as was required to convince ourselves that we were doing enough to ensure security. That tended to be done by a centralized team — a low-level team without much bite, but it did introduce some of the tools we still see today. That led to some very ad hoc practices. A team that depended on open source software might adopt an open-source testing tool because the legal team was worried about licensing requirements. A team writing a lot of custom code might use a static analysis tool. Typically, point tools were purchased to address specific problems. The second phase focused on security as compliance — but not open-source license compliance. A central team would define policy and the security team would ensure enforcement. You’d see the CISO’s office in a leadership role bringing a little more “teeth” to the security team. They would come in and overrule the development team, saying, “We need to do this as policy, and we’re here to ensure you comply.” But it would quite often get done late in the SDLC, consistent with classic waterfall development and often disruptive to timelines. The third phase is what more companies are now adopting — the idea of software security as tooling in the SDLC. This phase reflects maturity in the CISO’s office, a build-up of AppSec expertise and recognition of the impact on development. And the range of available tools has increased from just a handful — a source code repository, a compiler, build tools and some custom scripting — to hundreds of commercial and open-source tools. In any given environment, there will be dozens of tools in a single pipeline. A utility company that performs network monitoring of service usage may use over 100 tools in the SDLC to support project initiation, definition and user story, as well as to write code, build code, test code, store binaries, deploy binaries and monitor binaries. When you’re using over 20 tools, you need to start worrying about orchestrating activities, because hard-coding integrations make them very brittle and fragile. And that’s what “security as tooling” is about: policy defined as code and the CISO team starting to devolve the organizational structure. We’ve been seeing a federated model in the BSIMM, with product security champions deployed into product teams. Security champions help product teams understand and adopt the guidance from the central security teams. This also creates trust between the teams. This fundamental shift in organizational structure addresses issues with the enforcement approach that didn’t work when applied top-down. Finally, the fourth phase — which is just starting but will grow — is security as a business enabler. So far, only a handful of companies we see are following this model. Positioning security as a business enabler means thinking of security first when you think about anything you do as a company: what data you collect and how you store it, use it and share it. If your teams think and talk openly about what it means to protect all data so that it’s not at risk of being attributable, then you can claim that your company is beyond reproach. It must be championed from the top, from the C-level executive on down. And it has to apply to all areas that might come into contact with sensitive data. That goes far beyond the basics of keeping credit card data safe. Once you store data about customer activities and analyze it, there are real risks to be considered. Security as a business enabler means thinking deeply about the policies applied to privileged information and developing and nurturing customer trust. That’s where security and privacy have to come together — you simply cannot develop trust without protecting privacy.

A new concept by Antonio De Rosa imagines a Apple hardware cryptocurrency wallet, complete with Apple Card integration. One element of the concept is rather farfetched – the idea that you could mine a meaningful amount of crypto on a Mac – but the cold wallet concept is interesting, and I do feel this is an area where Apple could make a real difference… At the heart of the concept is a cute Apple hardware wallet with Touch Bar-like touchscreen and a Touch ID sensor. De Rosa sees this integrating with the Apple Card, so that your crypto balances would be visible in Apple Wallet, and could be spent via the card. The concept also imagines the ability to transfer crypto between individuals. The hardware key is also shown as monitoring crypto-mining by Macs or other Apple devices. This isn’t realistic these days given the huge processing power required to achieve a worthwhile return. Only dedicated mining rigs or sizeable networks stand a chance today. But the core concept of Apple creating a cold wallet for crypto strikes me as interesting. Even many techies are concerned about the risks of currency being lost or stolen, so a hardware wallet is a good approach, and Apple has the required level of trust. Indeed, the Cupertino company could even make its own cryptocurrency exchange. With Apple branding and marketing, it could turn crypto from a somewhat nerdy phenomenon into something ordinary consumers might adopt. Check out the rest of the concept here. What’s your view of the core idea of an Apple crypto wallet? And is crypto an area Apple should move into? Please share your thoughts in the comments.

Pierre Gasly's team has lifted the veil on its new single-seater and its ambitions for 2021. The AlphaTauri F1 team, which presented its single-seater and its drivers on Friday, including Frenchman Pierre Gasly, has set itself the "objective for this year to be constantly at the head of the midfield", according to its manager Franz Tost. In 2020, the Italian team, previously known as Toro Rosso, had their best season ever, scoring 107 constructors' championship points. She was only seventh out of ten, however, and last in the midfield, 95 points behind McLaren, 3rd and first in the midfield. "To achieve (this goal) we have to avoid reliability issues and finish all races in points," Tost urges. This can only be done if we don't make mistakes, so we need to be 10% focused on our work, race after race, on and off the track. " As for the drivers, Gasly (25), winner of his first Grand Prix in 2020 at Monza and tenth in the championship, will be the “leader” of the team. With his experience in the category since the end of the 2017 season, he will guide the Japanese rookie Yuki Tsunoda (20 years old). "The arrival of Yuki (who succeeds the Russian Daniil Kvyat, 26, editor's note) means that I will have more responsibilities and I am ready to take on this role", assures the Frenchman. “Very satisfied” with his results last year, he still believes that there is “still room to progress, to refine”. Third in F2 in 2020, Tsunoda says it has been "a very useful experience and a good warm-up", but the Honda protégé and member of the Red Bull youth network also knows that "the step is high". Tsunoda wants to "learn quickly" “The speed of the cars makes a huge difference, as well as the fact that the season is much longer (23 races, a record, note). Technically, there are a lot of differences, ”he lists. "There are a lot of complex procedures and you have to learn them as quickly as possible and the team is much larger, with a lot more engineers to work with." "My goal is to learn quickly and to deliver results as soon as possible", concludes the Japanese. Starting from pre-season testing in Bahrain from March 12 to 14, AlphaTauri will run a single-seater called AT02, still powered by Honda. To support the economic impact of the Covid-19 crisis, developments are largely frozen, apart from changes to aerodynamics mandatory for all. The car will still have a new front wing, among other things. “It's hard for me to tell you anything about the performance of the car,” said Tost. If you ask the engineers today, they'll tell you it's very good, much faster than last year, but I'm waiting to see the times. "

The sun was shining in Utrecht when my friend Rini and I set off for England in a white Ford Capri, in March 1979. We loved classic cars and were going on a tour of used car dealerships in search of a vintage Jaguar. Aged 19 and 20, we were full of the spirit of adventure. It was so mild when we arrived in Kent that occasionally we would stop to sunbathe on the car bonnet. We had no luck finding a Jag in the south-east so decided to head farther north. We didn’t check the forecast on our way to a dealership in Cumbria. As we drove, the weather got colder and wilder. Snow was falling as we reached the Yorkshire Dales. Unperturbed, we drove over the moors in remote Swaledale. A tumbling white mass of wind and snow began battering the car along the road. We struggled on until the storm became so heavy we couldn’t see where we were going; the car barely moved over flurries of fresh snow. Advertisement With no chance of going anywhere, we waited for the storm to pass. It was bitterly cold. With every exhale, the vapour in our breath froze in a cloud of ice. Our summer sleeping bags offered little protection, nor did our thin jackets and jeans. All night, the storm raged, burying the car deeper and deeper. The cold slowed our senses, until it was all we could feel. The next morning, the car was buried in snow. Everything was dark. Panic set in. Staying in the car would kill us. We had to get out – and fast. We tried the doors but they would not budge; the weight of the snow was too great. With great difficulty, we managed to roll down the windows and squeeze through the gap. Outside, we were met with an onslaught of gale-force winds and horizontal snow. With each step, we were knee-deep. Our minds fogged and our bodies numbed. My hair froze, and icicles formed on my eyebrows. We tried to find a farm we’d passed on the road, but it was hopeless. The whiteout obscured everything; the sky and road were indistinguishable. We clung to each other, fearful we’d become separated. Rini was fading, giving in to the comfort of sleep. I knew if he closed his eyes they would not open again. So, I kept him going, with kind words or a slap across the face; whatever worked. Finally, we stopped at a hay barn; I felt ready to die. At that moment, I heard what sounded like a dog bark. I forced my friend to stand and we headed back into the blizzard. I saw a figure coming towards us through the sheets of snow. “Are you both crazy? Out for a walk in this weather?” the man shouted. The man, Clifford Harker, told us he owned the farm we had passed. He’d been out with his dog, herding his sheep to safety. He told us he lived a 10-minute walk away, so we followed, battling through the storm. Ten minutes passed, and there was nothing in sight. “How much longer?” we pleaded. “Ten more minutes,” he replied again. After what seemed like a lifetime, we saw lights in the distance. We stumbled into the farmhouse, much to the surprise of Jennie, Clifford’s wife. We were shaking, dazed and numb, but we were alive. Experience: I fell in love in an Uber Read more Jennie ran us a bath, clothed us in her husband’s pyjamas, and on her doctor’s advice, made us bowls of lukewarm custard. It was the first thing we’d eaten in almost two days and it tasted glorious. The storm left the roads covered in 10ft drifts, so we had to stay on the farm for several days. The Harkers were so welcoming towards us: two Dutch strangers who had burst into their lives. We went back to visit them in Easter that year, loaded with presents for the family. We spent several days at the farm, helping Clifford tend to his sheep and eating more of Jennie’s delicious food. Our car had been dug out of the snow by the local garage. We told the owner we’d come to England to find an old Jaguar. By coincidence, he had one to sell. It wasn’t the exact model we were looking for but that dream finally came true last year. I am restoring a Jaguar XK140, 42 years after we first set out to find one. In 2015, my wife and I travelled to the UK to see Jennie again after Clifford passed away. I was sad I wasn’t able to say goodbye, but I keep a photo of him above my desk. It always makes me smile to look up at the man who saved my life.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison pledged on Friday to go ahead with laws that force Facebook to pay media for content, saying it had received support from world leaders after the social media giant blocked all media. Facebook banned the website pages of domestic and foreign news outlets for Australians, and also banned users of its platform from sharing any news content on Thursday, saying it was left with no choice before the new content laws. READ ALSO How to permanently delete your account on Facebook? It has become an arena for the struggle of fake news ... Facebook's credibility is at stake in the US elections Facebook may close its services in Europe for these reasons Including the Guardian and The Economist .. Facebook pays publishers millions of dollars for content The move, which also wiped out many government and emergency department accounts, as well as non-profit charitable sites, caused widespread outrage. Morrison, who criticized Facebook on its own platform on Friday, said the leaders of Britain, Canada, France and India had shown their support. "There is a lot of global interest in what Australia is doing," he told reporters in Sydney. "That is why I invite Facebook to participate constructively, because they know that what Australia will do here is likely to be done by some other western judicial authorities." Canadian Heritage Minister Stephen Gilbo said late Thursday that his country would adopt the Australian approach as it formulated its own legislation in the coming months. The Australian law, which will force Facebook and Google to strike business deals with Australian publishers or face mandatory arbitration, has already been approved by the Federal House of Representatives and is expected to be approved by the Senate next week. Not a trade deal but rather the sovereignty of Australia Australian Treasury Minister Josh Freidenberg said he had spoken to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook for the second time, "We talked about the outstanding issues, and we agreed that our relevant teams will work on them immediately," and added in a tweet, "We will talk again during the weekend." On the other hand, Facebook said, in its statement announcing the move in Australia, that the Australian law "misunderstood" its value for publishers. But Friedenberg responded earlier, telling the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, "There is something much more at stake here than just one or two trade deals. This is about Australia's sovereignty." Advertising Facebook and Google both campaigned against the laws, and both threatened to withdraw essential services from Australia if the laws went into effect. However, Google announced a raft of proactive licensing deals last week, including a global agreement with News Corp. Facebook restored some government pages later on Thursday, but a number of charitable and non-profit organizations and even district and neighborhood pages remained closed. The Facebook move had an immediate effect on entry to Australian news sites, according to early data from New York-based analytics firm Chartbeat. ChartBeat data showed that total traffic to Australian news sites from various platforms was down from the day before the ban by 13% in the country and 30% outside the country. Likewise, traffic to Australian news sites from Facebook alone has decreased from about 21% to about 2% in Australia, and from about 30% to about 4% outside the country. This effect was confirmed by Michael Miller, CEO of News Corp Australasia, in his testimony during an unrelated parliamentary hearing, but he said that the number of Australians visiting the company's websites directly had increased.

Mediation is to take place to try to avoid a High Court hearing of a dispute between a multinational software development firm and four former Irish-based employees alleged to have unlawfully diverted business to a rival firm in which they are involved. Scotland-headquartered Integrated Environmental Solutions Ltd (IES) and related IES R&D Ltd has brought the action against John Gleeson, Clontarf Park, Dublin, Darren Jordan, Rosealier House, Kilnagoran Kildare, Stephen Earle of Kilmuckridge, Co Wexford, and Seán O’Riordan of Hanover Quay, Dublin. The case is also against Building Performance Consulting Engineers (BPCE), Ashbourne, Co Meath, which was allegedly set up by Mr Gleeson when he was still an employee of IES. IES develops specialised software used to help design buildings that are more environmentally friendly. The court has heard that all four were senior employees at IES’s Irish branch and. on dates between December and January last, they resigned from that company. Proceedings IES claims, during the course of their employment, and in breach of their contracts, they diverted business from it to the benefit of BPCE. It wants various orders against the defendants, including an injunction restraining them using IES’ virtual environmental software. The claims are denied. Last week, Ms Justice Leonie Reynolds granted IES permission to serve the proceedings on the defendants at short notice and adjourned the matter to Wednesday. Marcus Dowling SC, for IES, told the judge on Wednesday the parties had agreed to go to mediation subject to an undertaking given in a solicitor’s letter and to a provision the defendants will be fully contesting the claim if mediation is not successful. The mediation is due to take place this Friday and the case could come back to court a week later, he said. The judge agreed to adjourn it to Friday week and noted an undertaking had been given and the letter reflected a compromise in relation to what the parties’ positions are.

Larian Studios has announced the fourth major update to Baldur’s Gate 3, called Nature’s Power. It introduces the first new playable class, the Druid, who among many other interesting abilities can turn into a burrowing death badger with glowing eyes. For those unfamiliar with the game a new Baldur's Gate 3 class is A Big Deal, coming as it does with a whole new set of voiced dialogue for the game, as well as introducing new options and story moments throughout. Druids have more than 30 spells & abilities, but let's face it: This is all about the animal transformations. You can be a dire wolf, a polar bear, a spider, a raven, a cat, a rothe (big ox), some sort of tadpole beast, and of course the badger. Just have a look at this. That little red dude is screwed. A big badger in Baldur's Gate 3. (Image credit: Larian Studios.) Larian says NPCs will react to particular animal forms, giving the example of chatting to bears when you're a bear. As a D&D game the Druids also come from one of their two traditional 'circles', adding yet another customisation option. Giant killer badgers aside, the patch itself will make a substantial number of changes to the game. One is the option to play with 'Loaded Dice' (every interaction in the game depends on a simulated dice roll). If chosen this does not affect damage rolls, but otherwise "helps smooth out the extremes of the bell curve [but] retains the core elements of RNG, ensuring a player can no longer be unlucky or super lucky with several dice rolls in a row." There are a bunch of quality-of-life improvements, including the much-requested ability to target by clicking on portraits, a 'torch' button so that equipping torches isn't such a pain, the addition of a 'flee' option in battle, and the ability to more easily share / steal stuff in co-op multiplayer. Finally, Larian Studios announced the opening of two new Larian... err, studios. There is now a Larian in Guildford, England, and in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This news comes with an unusually poetic note on studio scheduling: "this expansion is not only about increasing the number of developers working on the game, but also allowing development to follow the sun, with each studio acting as a mirror-image of one another, insofar as it’s possible."

Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel is selling eight cars from his personal collection, including a Ferrari LaFerrari. Notice to amateurs! Are you a fan of cars and Formula 1 ? Then you should definitely like the sale we are talking about today. And for good reason, the vehicles, which are already available for purchase, are not just any. Beyond the prestigious logos on their hood, these have indeed an interesting pedigree, since they all belong to Sebastian Vettel. The quadruple Formula 1 champion has indeed decided to part with no less than eight vehicles from his personal collection, currently offered for sale by Tom Hartley Junior, a British seller specializing in luxury car transactions. For now, these are still stored in the house of the star of motorsport, located in Switzerland, before joining their new owners, probably in the coming weeks, when it is already possible to order. If you feel like it. For now, the champion has not commented on the reason for the sale. Is it a matter of making some room in his garage, which is no doubt full, by getting rid of cars that he rarely uses? It is probable, whereas the cars presented here have a very low mileage. But according to some rumors, it could be that it is the new employer of Vettel, namely Aston Martin , which is at the origin of this big spring cleaning. His contract would oblige him to drive only in vehicles of the British brand. The team's press service for its part wanted to deny these rumors, saying that " we are not aware of Sebastian's plans for his car collection and we have not made any request in this regard. ". Anyway, we invite you to discover now the list of cars put on sale by Vettel, in order to perhaps make your choice! Discover the supercars sold by Sebastian Vettel: Ferrari LaFerrari from 2016 - already sold Ferrari Enzo from 2004 - price on request Ferrari F12 TdF from 2016 - around € 860,000 Ferrari 458 Speciale from 2015 - around € 400,000 Ferrari F50 from 1996 - already sold 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series - approx. € 316,000 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG from 2010 - approx. € 200,000 BMW Z8 Roadster from 2002 - approx. € 200,000

If you've ever watched a daily vlog, a package unboxing, or a clothing haul on YouTube, you may understand the appeal of lifestyle influencers. These manicured, subtly-filtered people — who are usually women — enchant their viewers with their ringlit videos and highly-curated Instagram feeds. Even before COVID, these types of influencers were facing backlash for a number of reasons — quitting their "real" jobs, contributing to unattainable body image ideals, selling snake oil, among others. Now, nearly a year into the pandemic, there's more to loathe than ever. I'm over lifestyle influencers, and I don't know if I can ever go back. Some capital-i Influencers have made themselves easy targets for ire, like TikToker Bryce Hall, who threw parties with more than 100 guests in the midst of the pandemic. Another, Tana Mongeau, blatently said she "doesn't [CENSORED] care" about COVID safety precautions. But even the influencers who've taken the pandemic seriously, who've stayed inside and paraded their masked faces on camera going to Trader Joe's — I'm over them too. As they've continued to document their "real" life, through selfie clips edited together with plucky music, I've became more and more disillusioned. SEE ALSO: Harnessing the power of social media to help young people quit vaping At the start of the pandemic, influencers had the same confusion and panic as the rest of the internet/country/world. They vlogged their days at home and the empty store shelves; some cried to their DSLRs. As someone who was equally confused and panicked at the start of this staying-at-home slog, I felt terrible watching these videos. They reflected my experience and made me all too aware of how widespread our new reality was. Hitherto, I'd watch lifestyle vlogs as entertainment, to kill time, or to find out if a brand was actually worth trying out. When the pandemic hit, vlogs ceased to offer any escape and only reminded me of our very real hellworld. As 2020 wore on, my aversion to these videos only grew stronger. Some vloggers went the toxic positivity route, always trying to find the "good" in the situation. Those were easy to take out of my usual rotation, but others were sneakier. They were more "real" about their experience — but a viewer has to examine how real it actually is. Footage in vlogs, just like any other piece of content, is handpicked, edited, filtered. If an influencer is having a bad day or sobbing on camera it's because they wanted you to see it; it's curated mess, curated "realness." When the pandemic hit, vlogs ceased to offer any escape and only reminded me of our very real hellworld. Beyond toxic positivity and selective negativity, another nefarious factor was at play: the need for influencers to sell. This was true before COVID, but even in the midst of the chaos these #ads never stopped. I've seen discount codes and diatribes about meal subscription boxes, beauty products, clothing, website domains — everything. When the world halted, influencers and brands kept churning out marketing material. Especially when millions of Americans are unemployed, a millionaire influencer hawking yet another moisturizer I don't need seemed tone deaf. Yes, I know influencers make their living off sponsorships for superfluous products. During a global crisis, however, the need for this profession model seems more insignificant than ever. So I've opted out of watching them hawk their wares. Surprisingly, however, I do still watch YouTube daily. Clicking away from lifestyle influencers actually allowed me to find a different genre that I find even more entertaining: commentary channels. SEE ALSO: Here’s what you need to know about Clubhouse, the invite-only social app Commentary channels deep dive into current events while providing their own #takes and explore corners of the internet that haven't made the mainstream yet. The difference is not only the content, but the focus. Instead of being about the channel owner's day-to-day life, commentary channels are about the owner's interests, research, opinions. These YouTubers gave way to film reviewers, political commentators, and other genres I never fully explored in the "lifestyle" trenches of Starbucks and lash extensions and #spon. Now when I go to YouTube, I'm greeted not with the same few (often white) smiling faces, but a variety of pop culture and societal dissections. I won't say I'll never watch a vlog or an unboxing again — I'm only human. It's also true that non-influencer channels have paid sponsorships, although they tend to place them at the tail end of their videos and they seem tangential to the experience. Regardless, the past year has made me examine my YouTube habits in a way I never had before. Instead of watching small glimpses of an influencer's day, I watch a commentary channel dig into a TikTok trend I didn't know about, or a pundit examine this week's political antics. I've realized I'd rather be on YouTube to benefit myself, not watch someone else's life through a selective lens.

After the US administration finally agreed to finalize an advanced tactical missile deal to Cairo, from the Ram Block 2 model, Egypt is on a date with a new batch of armament development for its armed forces' capabilities, which was considered by MPs in the Defense and National Security Committee of the Egyptian House of Representatives as a continuation of closer military cooperation Between Cairo and Washington, in order to enhance the capabilities of the Egyptian Navy to secure Egypt's borders and protect its economic capabilities. " The Defense Security Cooperation Agency of the US Department of Defense announced that the US State Department approved the potential deal at an estimated cost of $ 197 million. In the first comment of the Defense and National Security Committee in the Egyptian House of Representatives, the head of the committee, Major General Kamal Amer, told Sky News Arabia from Cairo that the indications of the US administration’s approval to conclude an advanced missile deal to Egypt are the desire to strengthen relations and military cooperation between the two countries. In response to a question whether this represents a joint Egyptian-American message in the eastern Mediterranean to confront the tensions in that region, he said that Egypt "freely chooses its weapons and is completely stripped of what suits its airspace and its own theater of maritime operations." The head of the Defense and National Security Committee of the Egyptian House of Representatives stressed during his statements that the US administration realizes that "Egypt is not an aggressor against anyone, but rather aims to defend itself and its national security." The Defense Security Cooperation Agency of the US Department of Defense announced that this deal would "support the fast missile ships of the Egyptian Navy, as well as provide greatly improved defense capabilities over the Egyptian coastal areas and the entrances to the Suez Canal," according to a statement issued by the committee. In turn, a member of the Defense Committee of the Egyptian Parliament, Major General Yahya Kadwani, told Sky News Arabia that “Egypt is working to modernize the armed forces, raise combat efficiency and diversify weapons sources,” referring to a strategic methodology followed by Egypt to diversify weapons sources To achieve integration of all major weapons of the armed forces, even self-sufficiency in local manufacturing of many military equipment. He continued: "Our armed forces are the bulwark of safety for our Egyptian, Arab and regional national security," noting that this means restoring the international and regional weight to Egypt by possessing these combat capabilities, and this supports the Egyptian navy forces, securing our borders and protecting our economic capabilities. Related news The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in its recent statement that "the deal supports the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping improve the security of a major non-NATO ally, which remains an important strategic partner in the Middle East." For his part, Deputy Defense Committee of the Egyptian House of Representatives, Representative Ahmed Al-Awadi, told Sky News Arabia that “Egypt's relations with the United States are strategic, regardless of the change of leadership or the US presidency, as relations remain extended in all fields, and they are old since For a long time, it may be tainted by some flaws at times, but it will return to its natural course as strategic relations for both parties. " Regarding the impact of the advanced missile deal , the Egyptian parliamentarian pointed out that “Egypt in recent years has clearly built its strategy (at the level of armament), and the armed forces, especially the navy, have witnessed a remarkable development in the recent period, regardless of developments in the eastern Mediterranean only. Given that Egypt has extended coasts, and it is concerned that its naval fleet is a strong fleet capable of protecting the state’s borders, in addition to protecting the territorial and economic waters of the Egyptian state

When Nevada high schooler Simone Gardella scored a zero on a short writing assignment early last fall, she thought the grade was inaccurate. But she couldn't find out what she might have done wrong. No human teacher had read what she wrote, and the computer program that had given her such a low mark didn't provide any feedback. "A robot is my teacher," said Gardella, a senior who had taken Advanced Placement classes before the coronavirus pandemic arrived. "I put thought into it. I felt like I answered the question. But I didn't get to find out what I did wrong." She saw more problems with the online lessons, and eventually, she spoke up, writing a letter to her local newspaper to criticize school administrators and Edgenuity, the vendor that her district had hired for remote learning. It turned out that there were a lot of critics of Edgenuity, an education tech company based in Scottsdale, Arizona, and owned by private investors. Edgenuity sells an online curriculum for grades K-12, and before the pandemic, it was known in large part for "credit recovery": online classes for students who had previously failed courses or otherwise needed to catch up. Then the pandemic hit, leaving school districts to figure out how to suddenly educate entire schools over the internet. And Edgenuity has bore the brunt of a lot of the frustration in recent months. The company has been the target of picketing, anger-filled school board meetings and local freedom-of-information requests from parents and students who say its software is inadequate for taking classes at home. Parents have turned to Edgenuity's Facebook page to lodge complaints, and petitions have popped up on Change.org to ban Edgenuity's software. In Rhode Island, a teachers' union alleged that administrators were using Edgenuity to replace them. Interviews with eight parents in five states showed how Edgenuity software was pressed into duty by some school districts as a kind of all-in-one approach to remote learning after Covid-19 shuttered most schools nationwide 11 months ago. It's one piece of a nationwide struggle to move learning online in response to the pandemic, a herculean task that has meant turning living rooms into classrooms, finding laptops for families who didn't have them and learning how to remember login credentials for countless websites. Edgenuity (pronounced like "ingenuity") says its software is used by more than 20,000 schools nationwide, including in 20 of the 25 largest school districts. It says 4 million students and teachers had accounts on its products last year. The company, founded in 1998, said that its products weren't designed for a pandemic and that it's up to schools to provide live teachers. Deborah Rayow, Edgenuity's vice president for instructional design and learning science, said in an interview that some school districts were having more success with the company's tools than others. The most successful ones, she said, have blended its software with live teacher interactions of some kind. "The schools that are using Edgenuity with more teacher involvement, that have provided more training for their teachers, are likely finding more success," Rayow said.

ack in May 2020, Google surprised the Android modding community by silently introducing hardware-backed attestation for SafetyNet responses on some devices. Due to the fact that Google’s servers didn’t entirely stop accepting “BASIC” evaluation reports to check the integrity of the software environment of remote devices, the advent of hardware-backed key attestation seemed like more of an experiment. At that time, however, Google said they were “…evaluating and adjusting the eligibility criteria for devices…,” indicating the potential of a wide scale rollout. Well, Google is finally doing exactly that. According to a recent post on the Google Group for “SafetyNet API Clients,” the “evaluationType” field in the SafetyNet Attestation API response has now become an officially supported feature. For a developer, it means you can utilize Google Play Services to send an unmodified keystore certificate generated using the device’s Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) or dedicated hardware security module (HSM) to SafetyNet servers every time you want to verify if the software environment of the device has been tampered with in any way. However, one shouldn’t overuse the facility, as it is solely intended for apps that already use the “ctsProfileMatch” parameter and which require the highest level of device integrity guarantees, as suggested by the official documentation. SafetyNet Response BASIC and HARDWARE_BACKED SafetyNet Attestation API response with evaluationType returning “BASIC” and “HARDWARE_BACKED.” Credits: XDA Senior Member Displax There were signs of this happening a few weeks ago when people noticed that Google Play Services had started giving preference to hardware attestation for CTS profile validation in many cases, even when basic attestation was selected. Keep in mind that it might still be possible to exploit the opportunistic nature of the hardware attestation routine and pass basic attestation in such scenarios. While this is not a permanent fix (and none before it have proven to be), it should allow people to bypass SafetyNet until Google decides to abandon basic evaluation altogether. Nevertheless, it is a shame to our enthusiast and developer community that Google is taking these steps in the first place. If Google continues enforcing hardware-backed attestation, this might mean the end of the days where power users could run Google Pay and other SafetyNet-based apps in conjunction with root access by employing masking techniques. Since the situation is still developing, things might be more complex than what they appear on the surface. We will keep our readers posted if there are new developments on the matter.
