  1. Correcting the upwards pricing curve seen in the last few months. During Taiwan's Nanya Technology Corporation's Q3 results presentation last Friday, president Dr. Pei-Ing Lee said he expects DRAM pricing to undergo a downwards correction by year end, compensating from recent DRAM pricing increases on a global level. This stems from the current market and supply chain conditions, which might actually be conspiring towards this predicted decline. Despite demand remaining strong throughout staple DRAM-consuming products (such as general consumer electronics, servers, and smartphones), "We are expecting the DRAM market [to] enter short-term, minor correction in Q4, 21," concluded Lee. The company may, however, be in a particularly vulnerable position when it comes to its ability to sustain higher ASP (Average Selling Price) on its products, due to its focus on speciality DRAM. The company supplies the usual suspects when it comes to DRAM chips - such as the office and enterprise and smartphone sectors; however, its other focuses, namely on automotive, home and entertainment (set-top boxes, IoT, and others) and enterprise (for networking and and infrastructure) have been facing consistent supply issues, which likely led to these remarks from Nanya's president. Nanya Technology Corporation is usually ranked fourth amongst the world's DRAM makers, behind Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron. It doesn't compete at the same level as those manufacturers - Statistica placed its Q1 2021 market-share at a mere 3%, which is well below Samsung's 42%, SK Hynix's 29% and Micron's 23% share of the market. Considering Nanya's market share and its president's expectations, however, it's possible that the big three players will soon find themselves in the same situation. Nanya and its 3% market share certainly have more difficulty in securing materials towards DRAM manufacturing in this market than the three giants it competes with, which would naturally have preference due to their much higher volumes. An incoming DRAM price reduction due to oversupply has already been predicted by industry analysts DRAMeXchange, Gartner, and IDC - so Nanya isn't the only company facing lowered revenues in the face of current events. Considering the general direction for higher pricing in all things consumer electronics, at least one of those parts facing price reductions is definitely good news for consumers - even if they aren't for investors and company's bottom lines. link :https://www.tomshardware.com/news/nanya-dram-price-correction
  2. The new beta release of Rufus takes the hard work out of ISO burning. Rufus is a great tool for burning ISO images so that you can install Windows 11 onto your systems. It works with lots of operating systems, is small, and it does the job efficiently and without fuss. It's a great tool to have in your arsenal. And that was before the latest beta release dropped, which somehow makes it even more useful. The latest Rufus 3.16 beta build (via Computerbase) introduces a new 'Extended' installation mode for Windows 11 that allows you to tweak the install at the ISO burning stage to essentially turn off some of the annoying system requirements for Microsoft's latest OS. Specifically, this Beta allows you to ignore the demand for TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, and the minimum requirement for 8GB of system RAM. Microsoft's demand for TPM 2.0 has been frustrating, as plenty of capable machines don't support it, so easily sidestepping it is a welcome tweak. I'm less convinced that you'll actually want to use Windows 11 on a machine with less than 8GB, but there could be some edge case where it absolutely makes sense. This 'Extended' mode is still in Beta, so you won't find it on the main download page, but rather on the Other versions (GitHub) and Other versions (FossHub) pages instead. Once you've downloaded the beta release, grab the Windows 11 ISO image as normal, and you'll be able to select Extended Windows 11 Installation in the 'Image option' box. That's it. After creating the bootable USB stick as normal, you won't have to worry about whether the machine you're installing it on has TPM 2.0 support, Secure Boot, or enough memory. Nice one Rufus. You're even more useful now. link :https://www.pcgamer.com/updated-burning-tool-makes-it-easy-to-ignore-windows-11-system-requirements/
  3. Compare at a glance the best-selling cars in 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021. An exercise that sheds light on the evolution of our car choices. This is one of the most interesting Twitter accounts for car lovers. @lovecarindustry , led by expert Felipe Munoz, compiled the figures for automobile sales in France in the first half of 2021 … Then he compared them to the same period in 2011, 2001 and 1991 . Everything is summed up in a graph that is as pleasing to the eye as it is rich in information. => What are the best-selling cars in France in 2021? French buy French. That's pretty clear in this chart showing the top-10 in H1 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021. A shift from C-HB to MPVs to SUVs. Source: JATO #carindustryanalysis #felipemunoz #carsales #carstats # top10 #france #automotive #instacar #carinfluencer #renaultclio pic.twitter.com/1wSGJ4GQZL - Car Industry Analysis (@lovecarindustry) October 10, 2021 Click on the tweet to zoom. It is a constant in French automotive life: the duel between Peugeot and Renault city cars at the top of sales . 30 years ago, the 205 - already old and at knockdown prices - was ahead of the more modern Clio, in full take-off. It was also the Renault city car that would dominate sales in the 1990s. Today, the 208 - which includes an electric offer - is ahead of the “small” Renault. => Renault Clio vs Peugeot 208: a duel started in the 1970s In detail, however, we note that the market share of these best sellers continues to decline . In the first half of 1991, the 205 was number one with more than 100,000 units produced. Over the same period this year, the 208 is in the lead with “only” 48,000 vehicles registered. This decline is explained by competition from low-cost deals (Dacia Sandero is now 3 e ) and opportunity, as well as the growing segmentation of manufacturers' catalogs. A fragmentation which was first read with the emergence and then the ebb of minivans . Absent from the top ten in 1991 (the Renault Espace was then competed with only the Chrysler Voyager and Pontiac Trans Sport), they “exploded” during the decade, notably with the emergence of the compact Renault Scénic and Citroën Picasso. But these family vehicles are quickly outdated by SUVs. Three "pseudos-4 × 4" are now in the top 10 sales positions in France, favoring manufacturers' margins. Main victims? The D-segment sedans. In 1991, the Renault 21 and Peugeot 450 were among the top five in the ranking . In 2001, the Laguna was still in fourth place in sales. Today, we must go down to 18 th place to find ... the Tesla Model 3. The first tricolor hatchback, the Peugeot 508 is today in 50th position . link : https://www.auto-moto.com/actualite/en-chiffres/voitures-plus-vendues-levolution-de-1991-a-nos-jours-images-292185.html
  4. Thibaut Courtois has accused football governing bodies of prioritising money over the welfare of players, who he feels are being treated like "robots". The Real Madrid goalkeeper played in both of Belgium's Nations League games during the current international break. This includes Sunday's third-place playoff with Italy, which sparked the 29-year-old's criticism. "This game is just a money game, we have to be honest about it," he told Sky Sports. "We just play it because for Uefa it is extra money and it is an extra game on TV. "OK, for us it's a good game because it's against Italy and for Italy it's a good game because it's against Belgium, but look how much both teams changed their players - if we had both been in the final there would have been others playing." Forwards Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku were two of the absentees for Sunday's game - which Italy won 2-1 - with players suffering from muscular problems after featuring in the semi-final loss to France three days earlier. "This just shows that we play too many games," Courtois continued. "Next year we have a World Cup in November, we maybe have to play until the latter stages of June again. We will get injured and nobody cares about the players anymore. "After a long season we will have to play four games in the Nations League again, we will have two weeks' holiday and that's not enough for players to be able to continue playing 12 months at the highest level. "If we never say anything it will always be the same. They (Uefa) can be angry about other teams making a Super League but they don't care about the players, they just care about their pockets." World governing body Fifa is proposing further changes to the football calendar that would see a World Cup played every two years instead of the current four. "You hear that they want to put a European Championships and a World Cup every year," added Courtois. "When will we get a rest? Never. "So in the end top players will get injured all the time and that's the end of it. It's something that should be much better and better taken care of. We're not robots." link : https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/58870597
  5. Germans are sitting down for far too long and are experiencing ever more stress in their lives, with the pandemic a significant factor, a long-term study into general health has found. Only one in nine Germans leads an “all-around healthy lifestyle” in which a good diet, enough physical activity, low alcohol and tobacco consumption and low stress are adhered to, according to the DKV Report 2021. That marks a low point since the DKV Report was first conducted back in 2010. Now in its sixth iteration, the report revealed several worrying negative records, said Clemens Muth, head of the health insurance firm DKV. “Germans now spend an average of eight and a half hours sitting down on weekdays – one hour more than in 2018,” said Muth. The report, published on Monday, found that the move to home office during the pandemic had worsened the habit of sitting down too much. and they’ve become even more sluggish,” said Ingo Froböse of the Cologne Sports University, one of the authors of the report. Froböse concluded that Germans were living more unhealthily than at any time since the first report in 2010, with around 60 percent failing to find ways to reduce or balance out stress. That’s the highest level of stress measured to date, he cautioned. “Most people aren’t finding ways to recharge their batteries.” “Women are more stressed than men,” Froböse stated, blaming workloads with childcare and homeschooling that had worsened during the pandemic. According to the results, around 70 percent of Germans are physically active for more than 300 minutes a week in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations. That might sound like a good result, but in 2010 the figure was 83 percent. Physical activity refers to activities – both moderate and intense – on the job or in everyday life that have a stimulating effect on the body. It’s by no means just about sport. One in five respondents weren’t even doing 150 minutes of physical activity a week. “They’re not doing anything,” said Froböse. Women are living slightly more healthy lives than men overall, with 14 percent of women as opposed to 9 percent of men being considered “all round healthy.” In terms of the German states, the people of Saxony do best, with 18 percent of Saxonians leading healthy lifestyles. North Rhine-Westphalia has the worst level of healthiness at seven percent. link : https://www.thelocal.de/20211011/german-lifestyles-become-more-sluggish-due-to-pandemic/
  6. A French study published Monday showed that vaccination against Covid-19 reduces the risk of hospitalization and death due to the Corona virus by 90 percent in those over the age of fifty, and it also appears to be effective against the delta mutant. The researchers in the "EpiFar" group reached this conclusion by comparing the data of 11 million vaccinated individuals over the age of 50 years with the data of 11 million people of the same age group but who were not vaccinated, over a period that extended from the first day vaccination began in France, i.e. 27 December 2020 to July 20th. The researchers noted, "a decrease in the risk of hospitalization by more than 90 percent, starting from the fourteenth day after the person received his second dose of the Pfizer-Biontech, Moderna or AstraZeneca vaccine. As for the fourth type of vaccine allowed to be used in France, that is, the Johnson vaccine, which was approved for Its use later, it was used in lesser proportions in France, so it was not included in the study.” It was found by the "EpiFar" group that "this percentage of the decrease is approximately equivalent to the percentage of the decrease in the risk of death during hospitalization due to Covid-19, and that this effectiveness on severe forms of Covid-19 did not decrease during the follow-up period, which reached the five months." In order to determine the effect of the delta mutated, which represents the most prevalent form of the virus currently, the researchers studied specifically the extent to which the rate of admission to hospital decreased during the period in which it spread heavily in France, starting from June 20, that is, a month before the end of the study. And they observed results similar to the results of previous time periods, i.e., an effectiveness of 84 percent among those over the age of 75 years, and 92 percent among those between the ages of 50 and 74 years. However, researchers who are still working on their studies to learn more about the subject, pointed out that these numbers provide "preliminary information", and "this time period is too short to assess the actual impact of vaccination on this mutant." link : https://www.skynewsarabia.com/technology/1469611-دارسة-تكشف-دور-اللقاحات-مواجهة-الأشكال-الحادة-كورونا
  7. Don't have a compatible CPU or TPM 2.0 support? Here's Microsoft's method to bypass its own security check. Those stringent hardware requirements for Windows 11? Fahgetabout it. At least that's what Microsoft seems to saying by releasing an official bypass for its new operating system. Microsoft recommends only installing Windows 11 after its PC Health Check check gives your system a pass, and that requires it to support TPM 2.0 and a strict list of compatible processors. But if your PC doesn't meet the criteria, Microsoft has identified two ways to bypass some of those hard checks—though you may not be entitled to Windows updates if you do so, including critical security updates. Tread with caution, especially since we recommend most people skip Windows 11 for now anyway. The first method applies to upgrades from Windows 10. You'll first need to make sure you have a Trusted Platform Module, and that it's on. You can do this easily by pressing the Windows button and typing Device Security. This will pull up the Windows Security module. Under Device Security, you'll want to click on Security processor details. The bypass doesn't let you off scot free as you do need TPM 1.2, rather than the official TPM 2.0, but most CPUs made in the last 7 years should support it. Your PC's Device Security module will let you check your TPM's level and status. IDG Obviously, you'll need a way to upgrade to Windows 11 as well. If your computer doesn't have a TPM 2.0 but it does have TPM 1.2, you'll then need to use Windows 10's registry editor to create an entry telling Windows to skip it. Before you try this route, we recommend that you make a full backup of your machine unless you really don't mind losing everything if things go wrong. The best overall backup software Throwing caution to the wind? It's time to fire up regedit by pressing Windows key + R and typing regedit.msc. You'll then need to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup and create new 32-bit DWORD and name it AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU. (Some PCs don't have the MoSetup folder. If the folder isn't there, right-click the Setup folder and create a MoSetup subfolder.) Once you've done that, set the value to 1 in decimal. Regedit entry showing how to skip TPM 2.0 check for Windows 11 upgrades IDG If you did all this correctly and you meet the other Windows 11 hardware requirements, the Windows 11 Installation Assistant should now skip the TPM 2.0 check when you run the upgrade. You'll be given a choice to perform a Full Upgrade, Keep Data Only, or Clean Install. A Full Upgrade keeps apps, settings and files; Keep Data Only keeps personal files as well as drivers. A Clean Install nukes the Windows 10 install entirely and replaces it with Windows 11. There is a second method available. If you install the OS from a clean ISO image, Microsoft says it will not check for TPM 2.0. Does that mean you can install Windows 11 on your 64-bit Pentium D chip from 15 years ago? No, but it should work for machines right on the borderline of being decrepit. link : https://www.goodgearguide.com.au/article/691938/microsoft-reveals-how-bypass-windows-11-strict-hardware-requirements/
  8. More than half of the people participating in video conferencing calls never utter a single word, according to a new report from Cisco. The company's latest “Hybrid work index” research paper, based on anonymized data from multiple sources, as well as an extra survey, over the past 18 months of extensive video calling, found that only 48% of participants are likely to actually talk. What’s more, virtually all meetings (98%) have at least one person joining remotely, which increases the need for inclusion and engagement for such participants, in order to have them “feel equal” to their on-site peers, the report said. However, “joining remotely” has gotten an entirely new meaning since the pandemic. Nowadays, people use mobile devices to connect to their meetings 27% of the time. Pre-pandemic, that number stood at 9%. Check out out list of the best headsets for conference calls right now These are the best online collaboration software picks around Check out our list of the best business webcams available Regardless of the type of device used to connect to a meeting, and despite the fact that many people rarely speak when on a video conference call, connectivity is still deemed “critical” for the post-Covid-19 recovery, by 82% of respondents. They believe connectivity can empower them to work for any company in the world, increasing their playing field. At the same time, companies get a global pool of talent to work with. Back to work gaining traction For the survey participants, it’s also important that everyone has equal access to jobs, education, and healthcare opportunities. Despite the impressive rise in telecommuting, working on-site won’t be going anywhere, any time soon. Cisco has found that the devices connecting to office-based Wi-Fi networks rose by almost two-thirds (61%), compared to six months ago. Most of the devices were in higher education, professional services, and hospitality industries. To draft the report, Cisco pulled millions of anonymized customer data from a number of its services, including Webex, Meraki, ThousandEyes, Talos, Duo and Umbrella. It also polled 39,000 people in more than 30 countries. link : https://www.techradar.com/news/lots-of-us-still-arent-talking-in-video-meetings
  9. Square Enix promised in 2019 that it would never add "pay-to-win" mechanics to its Avengers game. Marvel's Avengers is still dragging badly on Steam—its average concurrent player count over the past 30 days is just barely above 800—but the recent addition to Xbox Game Pass has given it a real boost on other platforms. That's not terribly surprising: People are generally a lot more likely to play a free game than one that costs $40, after all. But instead of the bump in goodwill you might expect, a good portion of the player community is very unhappy. The problem is that shortly after the Game Pass appearance, Square Enix began selling consumable XP boosters in the game, ranging in price from 100 to 500 credits. A pack of 500 credits sells for $5. Via Reddit: There are two main reasons that players are upset by this. First, developers increased the grind—that is, slowed the levelling process—in March, and second, it contradicts a promise the studio made in June 2019 that Marvel's Avengers "won't have random loot boxes or pay to win scenarios." Some players in this Steam thread, for instance, dispute the characterization of the XP boosters as "pay to win," because there's no PvP element to the game: People willing to pony up for the consumable will advance faster than those who are not, but it doesn't really impact anyone else's game either way. Others express concern that the in-game store will continue to shift to more of a free-to-play style, and that the free consumables currently offered to players will eventually be phased out completely. Unhappiness over the sense that Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix have gone back on their word seems a little trickier to debate, especially among long-timer players. "SE and CD decided a long time ago that new players were their priority and those of us that pre ordered were paid beta testers," a redditor named FantasticMeddler wrote. "They could give a [CENSORED] for any existing players except the whales." "They blatantly and repeatedly stated there would be no Loot Boxes or Pay-to-win mechanics," Motor_Structure7156 added in a separate post. "Labeling it `Pay-to-progress-a-bit-faster` is more accurate perhaps but it does not negate the lie that they told. If I am ignorant or disingenuous for calling a spade a spade and not a `human-tool digging interface appliance` then so be it." It's not a universal blowback, but there certainly appears to be enough of it to be concerning for a game that's struggled to find an audience since it launched. Naturally, there are threats to quit the game outright amongst all the complaints; I suspect that most aren't serious (and a few even admit that's the case) but even so, I have to think that there's some concern the change will do more harm than good in the long run. 10. To celebrate Parents in Sport Week 2021 we take a look at the family background of one of England’s top players – Toby Penty. Over the last decade Toby Penty has become one of England’s top badminton stars. His career took off when winning the English U19 National Championship back in 2011, and since then he has consistently delivered at tournaments all over the world, winning the Scottish Open in 2017, as well as having multiple European Championship medals to his name. But what is often forgotten is the family behind the athlete. The parents who support and mentor their children for them to develop into the elite performers we know today. Toby’s dad, Andy Penty, was an excellent club player in his youth and so both his sons were both always likely to pick up a racket. “My first memory of him (Toby) playing was when we used to take him on Sundays, with my older son Ben (four years senior) to play in Kingston,” said Andy. “The coach who was running the junior badminton at the Xcel centre in Walton said ‘why don’t they come and play here as well’. “That was when Toby was nine years old and that was the first time he really played weekly. “But I wouldn’t be involved in watching them play or anything, it was more just a case of dropping them off and letting them enjoy it. “Ben was playing competitions before Toby actually started, so he had something to aspire towards I guess.” Of course, Penty’s parents aren’t unique in being prepared to give up their own time in order to see their child pursue the sport of their choice. But what also perhaps helped the 29-year-old is the rich and varied sporting backgrounds of the family he was born into. “Both families, my wife Kate’s family and my side of the family, have always played sport,” explained the senior Penty. “My dad used to play tennis, as did my elder brother and he was just below the standard of playing the juniors at Wimbledon. “My wife’s side were all runners, so sport has always been around. “Toby originally began at Elmbridge Eagles, which I helped run and still help out at now. They helped him in the early days, but it got to the stage where Ricky (the coach there) said ‘this is as far as I can take him’. “He then used to get regular coaching at Wimbledon once a week, so he improved quickly. “Then he started playing junior tournaments from there. At the height of that period Kate was doing 20,000 miles per year driving, nowadays (post-retirement) we barley do six! “We bought our car at that time, with 11,000 miles on the clock and by the time we had sold it five years ago it had 167,000.” However, it wasn’t as if during those early days Andy and Kate knew they had a clear star on their hands. It actually took Penty a while to fulfil his potential, as his father explains. Andy said: “He was a slow developer in some ways, because when he first started playing he was up against boys who were much more powerful on court, and physically stronger. “He was small up to the age of 16, but then grew really quickly and went over 6 foot. He wasn’t a newcomer on the block really. “I think when he won his first gold (on the junior circuit) that was my proudest moment. Because it takes a long time to get to that standard. “I remember when he was 14 in Leicester, he came up against a French player who was really well-built and who beat him easily, Toby was physically overpowered. It is about helping them get over those moments and just keep sticking with it.” But whenever tough moments came, Penty’s mum and dad helped him build resilience and develop into the player we see today. As this week celebrates Parents in Sport, what advice would Andy give to others who may be about to go through something similar? He added: “It is difficult, but I wouldn’t say we were the pushy sort, which probably helped. You just give your full support and as a parent just do your best. “If you give them that support and just make sure you are always there if they need you, you can’t do any more than that really. “I learnt over the years not to talk to him straight after tournaments, because players are often still emotional after a defeat, but you learn these things. “I have seen kids break rackets and all sorts! But just be committed and not be too pushy really. That is all children want from their parents, I truly believe that.” link : https://www.badmintonengland.co.uk/parents-in-sport-week-with-toby-and-andy-penty/
  11. When it comes to women, breast cancer is the second most common cancer to occur. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), "In 2020, there were 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and 685 000 deaths globally." In India, one woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 4 minutes and one dies every 8 minutes due to breast cancer. As per data, one in twenty-eight Indian women is likely to develop breast cancer during her lifetime, becoming more prevalent among the younger po[CENSORED]tion. There are many risk factors of breast cancer. Some can be changed, while others are inalterable. However, having a risk factor does not mean you will get the disease, and not all risk factors have the same effect. Non-modifiable risk factors are those that cannot be changed and modified. According to Dr. Raizada, such risk factors include: 03/5Follow a healthy diet It is extremely important that you eat nutritious food and follow a healthy diet. Dr. Raizada recommends a diet that is low in fat and calorie consumption, rich in fruits and vegetables. In an age, where processed foods and unhealthy snacks have become an important part of our diet, the risk of developing chronic illnesses is high. Adults and kids alike have become more comfortable with a sedentary lifestyle, leading to unhealthy weight gain. As per the doctor, in order to curb breast cancer risks, one must watch their scales and maintain a healthy weight. 12. Inquest into death of Metepenagiag man shot by police heard testimony from more than 2 dozen witnesses A coroner's inquest jury ruled Rodney Levi's death in a police shooting last year was a homicide and issued recommendations around mental health and police training aimed at avoiding similar deaths. The recommendations covered three broad areas: Indigenous policing, mental health, and for the RCMP. They included changes to mobile mental health crisis response teams to make it available to respond 24-hours a day, increasing training on mental health calls for RCMP cadets at the Mountie training facility at Depot in Saskatchewan, establishing detox and mental health centres on First Nations, more Taser training for police, and speeding up the rollout of body cameras for the RCMP nationally. "We sincerely hope that the RCMP adhere and implement some of our recommendations," the juror who read the recommendations said. The juror expressed condolences to Levi's family. Members of Levi's family cried, hugged and, after the recommendations were read, clapped. "We got what we wanted — except for our brother," Levi's sister Linda told reporters after the conclusion of the inquest while family members held photos of the 48-year-old "We're very happy with the work that the the jury did and how attentive they were," Rhoda Levi, another sister of Levi, said. Levi, of the Metepenagiag Mi'kmaq Nation on the Miramichi River, was shot twice in the chest by RCMP Const. Scott Hait outside the residence of a church pastor on June 12, 2020, near Sunny Corner. The inquest, a quasi-judicial proceeding with evidence and witness testimony, heard from more than two dozen people since it began Sept. 28. The jury of three women and two men were asked to determine Levi's manner of death. Presiding coroner John Evans said accidental death could be ruled out, leaving essentially three options for the jury to decide: homicide, suicide or undetermined. He cautioned the jury that their role is not to find responsibility for Levi's death since an inquest isn't a criminal or civil trial. Witnesses told the inquest Levi had two kitchen knives that he wouldn't release, even after being Tasered three times by Const. Justin Napke. The officers testified Levi moved toward Hait, who then shot Levi while the two were a few feet apart. Levi's family expressed dismay when the inquest heard Tuesday from a suicide expert, who suggested Levi's death could be considered "suicide by cop" and said they were pleased the jury instead declared his death a homicide. "I'm just glad today that we can finally breathe," Rhoda Levi said. "Just breathe, and remember our brother and that he did not want to die." Rodney Levi inquest jury deliberates on cause of death, possible recommendations Video showing Rodney Levi being shot by RCMP evokes gasps and sobs from family The jury began deliberations Thursday morning, stopped overnight and resumed for only a few minutes Friday morning before reaching a decision. The recommendations touched on various aspects of witness testimony over the preceding week. Experts in RCMP training and use of force had talked about how RCMP get 26 weeks of training at Depot, followed by about six months of field training in which they're paired with a mentor. However, the witnesses said, sometimes RCMP staffing issues can affect how much time a new officer and mentors can spend together. The jury called for much more in-field training and for more experienced officers to be paired with new officers. Hait had finished training at Depot about eight months before the shooting. He wasn't trained to use a Taser, something the jury said should be done at Depot. Rodney Levi could have been saved by community policing, says inquest witness Use-of-force experts say shooting Rodney Levi justified in circumstances The recommendations touched on mental-health mobile-crisis teams with addiction and mental-health social workers. Hait had requested the team in Miramichi be dispatched after he arrived on scene, but the inquest heard the unit didn't deploy because it was only given the responding officers cellphone numbers, and calls went unanswered. The recommendations suggested changes to the way the unit is dispatched and when it should be deployed. The jury also heard that some RCMP training is online-based without the element of a hands-on scenario. Evans said he was pleased with the jury's work. The recommendations will be provided to the various governments or agencies they're related to, but it will be up to those organizations to decide whether to implement them. The jury recommended: Reinstatement of the Aboriginal band constable program, and until that's done, that the RCMP use a designated Aboriginal community liaison; Counselling services for witnesses, victims, and family members of traumatic events be provided in a timely manner; First Nations communities be provided with increased mental health services and facilities; Detox facilities be made readily available in First Nations communities; That in mental health wellness checks on First Nations, RCMP shouldn't be the first responders but be on standby for mobile health crisis units or an aboriginal liaison for that community; Mobile crisis units be dispatched in similar fashion to other emergency services; For mental wellness checks, the mobile crisis unit be dispatched along with other emergency services; Information sessions on mental health and addictions be offered in First Nations communities regularly; RCMP implement mandatory First Nation cultural sensitivity and awareness training at the Depot level; RCMP provide dedicated, uniformed liaison officers to each detachment with a First Nation community in its jurisdiction; Mandatory, scenario-based suicide intervention training to cadets; RCMP expedite the deployment of body cameras to all officers nation-wide; RCMP implement Taser training at Depot; Increase RCMP field training time from six months to a full year; RCMP adopt training recommendations submitted by Sgt. Kelly Keith to the inquest; New RCMP officers be paired for field training with an officer who has a minimum of experience of five years; RCMP increase its manpower; Crime scene be cleaned professionally by a cleaning service. link : https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/rodney-levi-inquest-jury-ruling-1.6204506
  13. Even restyled, the Outlander is not the most attractive in its segment. But, with its hybrid-rechargeable technology, it is surely the smartest. It only takes a try to get used to it: once you get home, it's no longer a matter of entering the house after wiping your feet! Before hanging up his coat, the driver of an Outlander PHEV will have taken care to connect his Mitsubishi to a domestic outlet . This short operation which, when it rains, can make those who do not have a garage moan, will make them smile the next day, when the big 4.70-meter SUV will start silently, without consuming the slightest drop of fuel. The Outlander has been capable of this feat since 2014, when it adopted the PHEV badge. It has also become the best-selling plug-in hybrid car in Europe , with more than 100,000 units sold. But, since its discreet restyling, which focuses on the grille, shields and optics, the Japanese have also modified its components, to afford greater autonomy. Thus, after less than six hours of charging on a conventional 230 V / 10 A socket, the Japanese vessel can travel 40 kilometers in 100% electric mode , without even leading to economy. This increase is due to the lithium-ion battery, whose capacity has increased from 12 to 13.8 kWh. It powers each electric motor, including one of 60 kW and 137 Nm to drive the front axle, and one now developing 70 kW and 195 Nm for the rear axle. With these new elements, the Outlander can even go on expressways in electric mode; it accelerates well and reaches 135 km / h. Once the batteries are empty, no breakdown or panic : the new thermal engine, increased from 2.0 to 2.4 liters, takes over without being noticed. With its 135 hp and 211 Nm of torque, it can directly (and very quietly) drive the front wheels, and turn into a generator, so as to maintain a sufficient charge level for the battery. While all of this may seem very complicated, the driver of the Outlander has nothing to deal with, however, just to savor. The sport ? No. Pleasure and comfort above all Economical in use, this SUV is not intended to offer sensations. Its performance is very convincing, thanks to a cumulative power of 230 hp, and its different driving modes are managed automatically, and imperceptibly, when not taken care of. However, the machine flirts with the two tons once a couple travels on board, and its suspension, soft enough to offer a pleasant comfort, struggles to contain the movements of the body . Its steering also lacks consistency but, for classic use, which perfectly corresponds to the idea we have of a hybrid car, the Outlander PHEV is very pleasant. And its all-wheel drive, whose distribution varies according to the conditions and / or the desires of the driver, generates a safe and healthy behavior. On board, well-being is the key word. Despite regrettable small details, such as a few poorly camouflaged screws, the level of finish is flattering and nothing is missing from the endowment of our test model, at the top of the Instyle range. Nothing, or almost nothing, since no GPS is offered ; it is necessary to rely on the guidance of a connected smartphone, the map of which can appear on the touch screen of the central console. The habitability ratings are stagnant but there is no shortage of space on board. However, no 7-seater variation is offered. On the other hand, we appreciate some welcome tips, such as the two 230 V outlets accessible from the rear seats and the boot, which deliver 1,500 W. The Outlander can be parked for free ... But the Outlander hides other advantages, invisible to the naked eye: like any other plug-in hybrid car, it benefits from favorable registration fees and attractive parking conditions. Thus, with the recent green disc, it can be parked free of charge for two hours in 31 French agglomerations which normally pay a fee, and can even remain parked “free” for six hours in Paris . In short, even stationary, this Outlander saves money! Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV test: the verdict If it was badged Volkswagen or Audi, this big SUV would sell like hot cakes. Instead, he has a quiet career in France. Still, this Mitsubishi Outlander is definitely worth a visit. We like Electric autonomy Comfort and quiet operation Roominess and equipment Ease of use We like less No GPS Cash movements No 7-seater version link:https://www.auto-moto.com/essais/mitsubishi-outlander-phev-restyle-courant-201415.html#item=1

  15. Trying to define value-for-money in the true wireless earbud market is odd, but Anker has done a decent job figuring it out. It’s not something that can be identified by looking at a spec sheet. For example, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 have only 6mm drivers inside, compared to the beasty 10.6mm drivers you will find in the new Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro. And yet the price of the former is higher and the sound quality is superior. You can only really figure out what is and isn’t a good value by using them. On the face of it, the Liberty 3 Pro seems to address the key missing pieces in the Liberty 2 Pro — that being active noise cancellation and a 30% smaller design — for an additional $20 (£30), but do they translate into a continually good value? You can order a pair of Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro in Midnight Black, Frost White, Fog Gray and Dusk Purple. Prices are set at $169.99 USD, £139.99 GBP, $199.99 CAD and €159.99 EUR. This is $40 more than the Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro, more than double the price of the Soundcore Life P3 and $70 more than the Nothing ear (1), which puts them at the higher end of the mid-range tier price bracket. At 0.7 x 1.1 x 1.1 inches, the Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro benefit from the removal of the stem found on typical earbuds like the Liberty Air 2 Pro (1.4 x 0.9 x 0.9) and Nothing ear (1) (1.1 x 0.8 x 0.9). Fortunately, these new buds are 30% smaller than the Liberty 2 Pro and, at 0.2 ounces, they’re lighter too. They’re still slightly heavier than the competition (Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro weigh 0.18 ounces and Nothing ear (1) are a featherweight 0.16 ounces), but with the self-contained stem-free construction, this isn’t such a problem. Looking past these numbers and buzzwords like “Fusion Comfort” technology, the new lightweight design translates into a stylish pair of earbuds that are comfortable to wear. The variety of tip and ear wing sizes ensure a snug fit regardless of whether your ears are more Gary Lineker-sized like mine, and the IPX4 water resistance makes them durable even when exercising. The case is a slim, lightweight pebble at 2.8 x 2.2 x 1.1 inches with a weight of 1.6 ounces — smaller than Nothing ear (1) (2.3 x 2.3 x 0.9 inches) and lighter than the Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro’s (1.8 ounces). Plus, Anker seems to have worked on its sliding door mechanism, with this one feeling stronger than the Liberty Air 2 Pro case. Anker Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro: Controls and digital assistant You’ve got the use of four different tap inputs on each side, from single to triple taps and a tap and hold that can alter the volume, skip tracks and switch between ANC and transparency mode. Once you’ve figured out the tap speeds, these are easy enough to operate, but weirdly, the hold interactions are hit-and-miss — some gestures are not recognised whatsoever. Hopefully, this is something that can be fixed with a firmware update. And of course, you can tweak the controls to activate your digital assistant of choice, which picked up my requests just fine both in and outdoors. That’s particularly baffling given the poor call quality, but more on that later on. link : https://www.laptopmag.com/uk/reviews/anker-soundcore-liberty-3-pro
  16. If you saw a player over the age of 30 playing in an academy game, you could be forgiven for assuming they were there to regain fitness after injury. But there's a growing trend in football that is seeing clubs sign senior players who will never play in the first team, but will instead nurture their up-and-coming talent. Manchester United have signed Paul McShane, Southampton have brought in Olly Lancashire and Gary Dicker has arrived at Brighton. All three previously played for their present employers and all three are utilised as support players or player-coaches. Their job as senior professionals - with hundreds of games under their belts - is to pass on knowledge and experience to young players starting their journey. Brighton are the furthest along in this process with Dicker the second player to occupy that position. Their first, current under-23 boss Andrew Crofts, did it for two seasons and is a former team-mate of Dicker. The Seagulls picked up the idea when they played against Bayern Munich in a development match and the German side had an over-age centre-back playing for them. Academy manager John Morling says that after the initial surprise - and asking a few questions - the benefits of having someone like that became clear. He said: "We thought it was a really good idea and in the first year when Andrew did it he was still playing in the [National League]. "He was already interested in the coaching side, he'd already done his B licence and A licence and was going to start his pro licence so he was heavily involved in development anyway. "It's very hard to find the right person to do it because they've got to be able to train every day and be able to add value on the training pitch add value on the gameday as well." The over-age player scheme could cause issues if not managed correctly. In the first year when Crofts was starting out in the role, players went to Morling with concerns about it limiting their game time. Morling said: "The players who were worried about game time saw the benefits in training and how he helped them, especially the ones in the same position. "In three or four weeks' time it was at a point where the players were really happy with it and they could see what he brought." The benefits are clear to see, Brighton have had eight academy players make their first-team debuts so far this season. Brighton use their over-age player as part of their player-to-coach scheme, with senior players combining their playing duties with doing their coaching badges and taking sessions. Dicker, 35, who made more than 150 appearances for the Seagulls in his first spell at the club, left Scottish side Kilmarnock in the summer. "You can see the age of players in our first team is getting younger and the teams I was playing in were getting younger. The game is about young players getting the chance," he said. "I've kind of been used to that to be honest with you. I played with a lot of younger players and so that wasn't too hard, maybe the type of music and the general chit-chat [about] what to do at the weekends is a lot different than what I'm doing at home with the kids. I've enjoyed it and it is keeping me young so I've no complaints. "As an older player you can feel moments in games that someone less experienced hasn't had and you understand the right decisions to make. The best thing about it for me was Crofty had done the role so I'm not coming in blind and expecting to play every game. "But I'm here for training and it's about driving up standards. Can you keep doing the right thing and setting the right example? It's a 24-hours-a-day and a seven-days-a-week occupation." Although Dicker can see the advantages of his role, he admits that he still harbours the urges of a competitive first-team player. "There is the odd day where I think 'he's naming the team and I want to be in it' but that's just a natural thing that you have as a footballer because it's geared up to playing at the weekend," he added. Former Wales midfielder Crofts says there are plenty of challenges to the role. He said: "It's tough gig. I think people probably underrate how tough it is. "I think more clubs are doing it and more players want to do it because years ago you had that blend of young players and senior players in reserve teams and that has probably been missed. "So it is an ideal opportunity to be able to implement that into a young group and hopefully the young lads get those golden nuggets of information and a role model to prepare them for their next steps." link: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/58820061
  17. Students around campus have found many ways to work out in their busy schedules. Some physical activities can be more strenuous than others, but they all have the same common goal: taking the stress away from school. “It helps me clear my mind and focus on what I am doing at the moment,” Athens, Ohio, senior Lindsay Zatta said. Zatta recently joined an organization called Gain at Baylor. The program is an all-women’s group that tries out new gyms every week. Zatta said that they have tried D1, Rush Cycle and Duality and that they will be going to Crunch Fitness this week. “We get to try out all the gyms for free essentially and get to bounce around Waco and see what workouts work for us,” Zatta said. Out of all the locations she has worked out at, Zatta said that Duality was her favorite because it involved yoga and made her feel the most relaxed. Zatta said she enjoys hot yoga because it helps her burn more calories while being in a tranquil state of mind. “It’s a different form of working out without the stress of competing,” Zatta said. “It’s taking the time to reflect on your day and to reflect on your body and just enjoy the process and take it in.” While other students enjoy going to the McLane Student Life Center (SLC) to work out, Axtel junior Logan McCowan said he is able to stay on task while getting his physical activity in by following an organized workout plan. “I use an app called Playbook, and it has full workouts for $15 a month,” McCowan said. “It usually takes about an hour per workout, and they time it for you, so you stay on task.” McCowan said his workout plan focuses on the lifting aspect of his workout, and for cardio, he does rugby twice a week. He said he tries to keep the same schedule to stay consistent and live a healthy lifestyle. “I’m bettering myself and my health when I am working out,” McCowan said. Hastings, Minn., senior Kathrin Notch said she enjoys sand volleyball at the SLC and looks forward to playing every Tuesday and Thursday night. Notch said she got involved by joining a GroupMe chat called “Baylor Rando Volleyball University,” which is a chat consisting of 290 students in which people send out times and locations to play volleyball. “It has helped me to know other students, especially underclassmen,” Notch said. “We will all play and then go get food after and get to know one another.” link: https://baylorlariat.com/2021/10/07/student-uses-exercise-to-manage-stress-keep-healthy-lifestyle/

  19. Plenty of car companies could lay claim to creating the small SUV class, but Toyota has some pretty strong credentials. The original RAV4 arrived in 1994, and it was one of the first cars of the era to deliver rugged styling and practicality in a relatively compact package. It was a hit for Toyota, but over time the RAV4 has grown in size, so Toyota has bolstered its SUV range to compensate. First it introduced the C-HR as a smaller alternative, but with the explosion in po[CENSORED]rity of supermini-based SUVs, the company needed another model on its books. Enter the Toyota Yaris Cross, which has just gone on sale. The new model shares more than just a name with Toyota’s award-winning supermini, because its platform and running gear are identical, too. That means hybrid drive is standard, which should help it to deliver low everyday running costs. With petrol-electric power central to its appeal, the Yaris Cross offers something different in the small SUV class, but it’s not a unique format in the sector. While the Kia Niro now comes with electric or plug-in power, it arrived as a hybrid in 2016. Constant development has refined and improved it over the years, but does it do enough to show hybrid specialist Toyota the way? There’s only one way to find out. The Yaris Cross is the smallest model in Toyota’s SUV line-up. It slots below the C-HR, starts from £22,515 and is around £3,000 more, model for model, than the Yaris supermini. Here we’re testing the Design model, which sits in the middle of the range and costs £24,140. Design & engineering Like the supermini of the same name, the Yaris Cross uses Toyota’s TNGA-B platform, and UK models are built in the same French factory as the hatchback, too. There’s one powertrain option available, which again is the same one found in the Yaris: Toyota’s 1.5 VVT-i hybrid set-up with a three-cylinder petrol engine, electric motor, compact battery, CVT gearbox and front-wheel drive. There’s a modest 116bhp on offer, but that’s adequate for a model such as this.On the outside, the Yaris Cross foregoes the supermini’s curves for a chunkier look. It rides 30mm higher than the supermini, and the off-road appearance is further emphasised by the gaps between the wheels and the arches. There are the usual additions of black plastic cladding and silver roof rails, while Design trim comes with chunky-looking 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Our car’s Urban Blue paint is a £250 option, while higher-spec versions can be had with a contrasting black roof. Inside, there are clear similarities between the Yaris and Yaris Cross. The dashboard is pretty much identical, with the same switchgear, steering wheel, air vents and touchscreen infotainment system in place. You get heavily sculpted door cards that add a touch of flair to the cabin’s appearance, while silver trim around the gearlever and a piano-black finish for the curved section above the climate controls give the cabin a bit of a lift. 21. In its first big move to expand into a software company, General Motors is introducing a new software platform it created called Ultifi. The automaker will begin putting Ultifi (all-tee-fy) on some internal combustion and electric vehicles starting with the 2023 model year with the hope that it helps boost consumer loyalty to GM cars and opens up new channels to revenue beyond car sales. "Ultifi is a big, big step in our software strategy," Scott Miller, GM's vice president of software-defined vehicles said Wednesday. "Today, cars are enabled by software, with Ultifi, cars will be defined by it." Last week, Alan Wexler, GM's senior vice president of innovation and growth, announced that GM has a new business model that extends beyond the hardware of building cars, to becoming a software platform innovator. Wexler said GM's vehicles will merely be a platform to deliver GM-developed software to offer consumers services beyond driving. Those services can then be used in their homes and other areas of their lives. Wexler called GM's new business model, "a potential game-changer for delivering subscription services that create recurring revenue." Ultifi is the first step in GM's new business model, Miller said. It builds on GM's current vehicle intelligence platform (VIP). Think of VIP as a smartphone and Ultifi as the operating system that provides the functions. Ultifi holds the potential for more cloud-based services, faster software development and new ways GM can increase customer loyalty. "At our core, we're going to make great cars, trucks and vehicles," Miller said. "What we're talking about is adding a platform with Ultifi. (Customers) will love it when they buy it, but they'll love it even longer as it gets better. When the next new thing comes out they can add it to their vehicle and not have to go buy a new car so this improves the relationship with them." Similar to software on a smartphone, Ultifi can provide regular updates and let customers choose from a variety of over-the-air upgrades, personalization options and apps. For example, imagine a camera inside your car that recognizes your face and starts the engine for you. Or, the camera can detect if there's a child in the back seat. Miller said those services would not be subscription. Another example would be a weather forecast with the ability to close a vehicle's windows if it's parked in an area where it's expect to rain, Miller said. Or an alert that warns drivers of specific icy spots on roads.GM will open Ultifi up to allow third-party developers to create content for it and there will be the chance to add subscription offerings, for added revenue for GM. But Miller declined to say how much revenue GM expects it will generate. A GM spokesman said the automaker will discuss revenue in more depth next week, most likely at its Investor Day on Oct. 6.But Miller said GM will work out a revenue sharing formula with third-party software providers, noting, "They're not going to come to our platform for free, but we're not going to give up our platform for free either, so that's a solvable issue we'll address in the future."A customer will buy a car with Ultifi on it and then choose various plans with it or levels in terms of the number of upgrades they will get, the kinds of services and software or apps they want to access. "The key thing about Ultifi is we like to call it continuous integration," Miller said. "We're separating the software from the hardware so we can continuously upgrade apps. It will allow us to be very agile and constantly learn how to make it better."
  22. After five long years of theorizing and contemplating what the Batman Arkham series developer Rocksteady Studios could be making next, we finally have our answer, albeit an unexpected one: Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Unlike most games announced recently, we actually have a release date for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and an inkling of what the story is going to be about. We also have our own guesses as to what the gameplay will entail thanks to the cinematic trailer shown during the game's debut. Here’s everything we know so far about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. See our Xbox Series X review, PS5 review and best virtual tabletop software Meet the therapist using videos games to teach mental healthSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release date While we’re not entirely sure what day Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will launch, Rocksteady Studios revealed that it would release sometime in 2022. Right now, it’s set to launch for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Similar to our Gotham Knights prediction, if this title follows the release date of the other Batman Arkham games, it’s likely to launch sometime in Q2 or Q3 2022. There’s no word on cross-play functionality as of yet, so stay tuned for that before you decide which platform to buy. The next time we get an update will ideally be when gameplay is able to be shown, or maybe even when another Justice League member makes the target list. Unfortunately, we've gotten more updates about the Suicide Squad movie before the actual game, which isn't necessarily bad, but we're excited to see what this game looks like in action. Gotham Knights was recently delayed to 2022, so it's possible that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League might get pushed back as well at some point.
