The Batman trailer is here — in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. At DC FanDome on Saturday, Robert Pattinson the new Batman, Zoë Kravitz the new Catwoman, and The Batman writer-director Matt Reeves unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming standalone reboot of the Dark Knight. “The delineation between when he's Batman and when he's Bruce is not very clear”, Pattinson said at DC FanDome. The new The Batman trailer gives a proper look at Gotham City and teases the action sequences. The Batman trio spoke extensively about the film before they debuted the new trailer. We also get a featurette alongside that set up the world that this version of Batman lives in, with Pattinson, Kravitz and Reeves talking in it. Gotham City cops apprehend the Riddler (Paul Dano) at the start of the new The Batman trailer. “Fear is a tool,” Batman (Pattinson) says later, before we see him go ballistic on some criminals. Riddler says he's been trying to reach Batman. Elsewhere, he meets Selina Kyle (Kravitz). His butler Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis) warns him that there's not much left for him if he goes down this path. Batman vows that he's vengeance, before The Batman trailer descends into a flurry of action. In addition to Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/ Batman and Kravitz as the anti-hero cat burglar Selina Kyle/ Catwoman, The Batman also stars Paul Dano as the serial killer Edward Nashton/ Riddler who taunts Batman and the police, Jeffrey Wright as Batman's police ally James Gordon, John Turturro as mob boss Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham district attorney Gil Colson, Andy Serkis as Bruce's mentor and butler Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the disfigured crime lord Oswald Cobblepot/ Penguin. Barry Keoghan plays Gotham City officer Stanley Merkel, Jayme Lawson is Gotham mayoral candidate Bella Reál, and Alex Ferns portrays Gotham City Commissioner Pete Savage. The Batman has undisclosed roles for Gil Perez-Abraham, twins Charlie and Max Carver, Rupert Penry-Jones, and Con O'Neill. Behind the scenes, Reeves directs The Batman off a screenplay he co-wrote with Peter Craig (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2). Greig Fraser (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) serves as the cinematographer. On The Batman, Reeves reunites with War for the Planet of the Apes collaborators, including celebrated composer Michael Giacchino, and editor William Hoy (who edited the DC film with Tyler Nelson). Reeves is also a producer on The Batman with Dylan Clark. The Batman is a production of Reeves' 6th & Idaho, DC Films, and Dylan Clark Productions. Warner Bros. Pictures is the global distributor. The Batman was made on an estimated budget of $100 million (about Rs. 750 crores). Though The Batman is technically the next DC movie, it's not part of the DC Extended Universe — the shared universe that encompasses the likes of Shazam! and Wonder Woman. The DCEU does have three titles in 2022 though: Dwayne Johnson-led Black Adam in July 2022, The Flash with Ezra Miller, Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton in November 2022, and Jason Momoa-led Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in December 2022. Shazam returns in Shazam! Fury of the Gods in June 2023. The Batman releases March 4, 2022 in cinemas in India (in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu) and around the world. Microsoft has managed to annoy quite a few Windows 11 users, but not for the reasons you may expect. As part of Windows 11’s visual overhaul, Microsoft made a reasonably big deal over redesigned emojis – those little cartoon faces that some people use to pepper their conversations with. Windows 11’s ‘Fluent Design’ look is a big departure from Windows 10, and emojis were expected to be redesigned to fit in with the new look. As MSPoweruser reports, Microsoft’s Windows social media profiles were teasing the new look emojis, and so a fairly sizable portion of the Windows 11 userbase was looking forward to getting them. Here's our Windows 11 review We show you how to download Windows 11 Here's how to fix Windows 11 problems However, it seems like the emoji hype has backfired, as Microsoft has included the redesigned emojis in a new Insider build of Windows 11. These are early versions of the operating system sent out to people who have signed up to help test upcoming new features. The problem is, the new emojis do not look as good as the ones teased by Microsoft, and some people aren’t happy. Spot the difference As you can see from the Windows UK tweet above, the emojis that were hinted at are lively and engaging, with a hint of 3D design. However, the new emojis that are coming to Windows 11 are pretty different, with a less interesting flat 2D design. The differences between what was hinted at and what was delivered wasn’t missed by many people, who have been complaining to Microsoft about it, with some even accusing Microsoft of scamming them. That’s a bit over the top – these are just emoji’s overall – and it led to Microsoft Program manager Brandon LeBlanc apologizing, suggesting that the wrong graphics had been used. Analysis: Communication matters While this controversy around what emojis look like in Windows 11 may seem like a load of sound and fury, signifying nothing, it does highlight how important communication is for companies who are drumming up hype for their products. If you’re hinting at a new design or feature, no matter how minor, you’re going to want to deliver on those promises, or someone somewhere will likely be disappointed. The reaction to ‘emojigate’ may have taken Microsoft by surprise, but for many people around the world, emojis are a key part of how they communicate with friends and loved ones, so how they look can mean a lot to them. Hopefully, Microsoft delivers on its promise of emojis for those who are disappointed, while taking an important lesson from this: no matter how small a feature may be, never over-promise and underdeliver. link : https://www.techradar.com/news/microsoft-angers-windows-11-users-because-of-emojis

Intel recently shared a developer guide for its forthcoming 12th Generation Alder Lake processors. Gamer's Gospel discovered an interesting tidbit that DRM solutions, such as Denuvo will require updates to support Alder Lake's hybrid design. Gamers typically upgrade to a new processor to get better performance in games. However, Alder Lake may not be plug-n-play and command special attention from DRM developers. Intel has confirmed in the document that Alder Lake will have compatibility issues with DRM solutions unless the provider issues a special update for the protection in question. Consequently, game developers that implemented the DRM into their games will have to do the same. "If your existing or upcoming game uses a DRM middleware, you might want to contact the middleware provider and confirm that it supports hybrid architectures in general, and the upcoming Intel ADL platform in particular. Due to the nature of modern DRM algorithms, it might use CPU detection, and should be aware of the upcoming hybrid platforms. Intel is working with leading DRM providers such as Denuvo* to make sure their solutions support new platforms." Many, if not all, modern triple-A titles carry some type of DRM protection to defend against piracy. Intel specifically mentioned the Denuvo algorithm, however, we suspect that other protections, such as VMProtect or SecuROM will likely necessitate an update as well. Certain games, like Assassin's Creed Origins even have multiple layers of protection, probably requiring multiple updates. It shouldn't be a huge issue for modern games since developers will in all likelihood provide the update for Alder Lake. The problem arises for older titles that are a couple of years old that likely won't get any updates, meaning they'll be unplayable on Alder Lake chips. There are many gems out there that have high replay value so gamers will be annoyed that they can't play them on the shiny, new Alder Lake processor that they just bought. Some game developers eventually remove DRM protections when significant time has passed since the game's launch, but that's not the case for every title. Sometimes developers deploy DRM-free versions of their games on platforms, including GOG. If neither situation is viable, gamers may be forced to resort to piracy despite legally owning the game. link : https://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-alder-lake-cpus-may-not-work-with-older-games

There may be deals come Black Friday itself, but availability and flexibility is going to be more important than discounts in a supply chain crisis. Look around you, Black Friday 2021 has already started. Yes, we're already talking about Black Friday deals on PC Gamer, and we're not alone—it probably hasn't escaped your notice that everyone, from other media to the big retailers, is talking about early deals, whether they're tagged Black Friday or not. That's because if you want to have any hope of getting your hands on the best tech before Christmas this year, it's probably going to be worth getting in early, and clicking that buy button as soon as possible. Now, I know what you're thinking; of course I'm going to say that, I want eyeballs on PC Gamer's deals pages. While that is true, we've also been reporting on the chip shortage and supply chain crisis pretty much all year long, and it's not suddenly going to get better just because Santa's woken up. Sorry, kids, Santa's struggling with distribution too—all your techie presents come in shipping containers, not on the back of an airborne sleigh these days. In the before times—the long, long ago—you used to be able to wait until Black Friday and Cyber Monday for the big deals, confident that retailers were going to save their biggest discounts for the main event. You could also be confident that, with a month to go until Christmas Day, that you were pretty much guaranteed that whatever you ordered would easily ship in time for December 25. But with shipping containers piling up in docks around the world, and ships being turned away from ports for various reasons, none of that can be guaranteed anymore. The chances are that, if you're waiting for Black Friday itself for the big deals, you run the risk of not actually seeing hide nor hair of your purchases until well after the new year. And that's only if there's stock left by then. The most visible result of the chip shortage and supply chain crisis for PC gamers is a lack of stock on the electronic shelves for some of the most important parts of our rigs. Graphics cards are the most obvious example—and if you want to know exactly why you still can't buy a new GPU, we've been speaking to the experts—but everything has been affected to a greater or lesser extent. To the point where I'd suggest 'availability' is going to be a more vital watchword around Black Friday this year than the almighty 'deal'. Whether something can actually be bought at a decent price is going to be more important than how much of a discount you can dig up. We recently spoke with Professor Thomas Goldsby, the Haslam Chair of Logistics at the University of Tennessee’s Master's of Science in Supply Chain Management online program, and a certified supply chain expert. His point is that we're going to need to be far more flexible this year. "You know, you can't turn on the news without someone saying 'start your Christmas shopping now, because the shelves are going to be empty.' The truth is the shelves won't be empty," says Professor Goldsby. "It's just that the things you might be looking for might not be in stock. If you're looking at exact products, you can't be as picky. "If you're looking for a specific item, at a specific location, you're probably going to be challenged. You might have to choose a different item, choose a different location, you might have to go to the secondary market, and so we're just gonna have to be ready to make some substitutions and be flexible." I will admit this may sound pretty doom-laden, and like a sort of 'Buy, buy, buy! You must buy now!' kind of capitalist rant, but if there is something you have your heart set on this year—whether that's a piece of tech gratification for yourself or a gift for a loved one—then the recommendation is to shop early and be prepared to be flexible. "The theme of this coming holiday season," says Professor Goldsby, "is going to be flexibility and substitution, which is not something we as consumers have become very open to. I refer to today's consumers as diabolical. "You know, we've all become little monsters." But that's only if you're after something specific and can't face the disappointment of not getting the one thing we desire, or not getting it in time. If you're like a lot of us, and are just looking for some seductive random bargain to tempt you to open your wallet, Black Friday may still have enough capitalist juice left in it to scratch that retail therapy itch for the casual consumer. Just be aware that you can't always get what you want, when you want it. Especially this year. link : https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/black-friday-2021-dont-wait/

When people look back at the results of the British Touring Car Championship event at Silverstone in September 2021, the headline will be an impressive weekend for Rory Butcher, who put his Toyota on pole position and then backed it up with a pair of wins on race day. However, arguably the biggest story from the weekend was the appearance on track of another Corolla GR Sport, as the BTCC’s hybrid test car joined the series regulars in the latest stage of the ongoing development programme for the new electrical system that will feature from 2022. It was back in August 2018 that the BTCC first announced its plan to introduce hybrid technology, before a tender process was opened the following April to determine who would provide a system that would not only spice up the action on track but also ensure that the series remained relevant in the ever-changing wider motorsport landscape. Later that season, Cosworth was named as the company responsible for producing the system. It set to work on the initial design and build and soon the first BTCC car fitted with hybrid technology hit the track to ramp up the testing process. A 60V gearbox-mounted electric motor complements the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine that has become a fixture of the BTCC and provides drivers with an additional 40bhp power boost that they can use on track over the course of a race weekend. Track running has been carried out by M-Sport, the World Rally Championship powerhouse that will provide the latest incarnation of the Toca engine that will also come in next year, with a number of drivers – including experienced GT racer Darren Turner and veteran BTCC front-runner Andrew Jordan – taking turns behind the wheel. “Testing of the hybrid system has gone very well, and we’ve been able to complete a season of running with the car as part of the development programme,” said Neal Bateman, Cosworth’s head of support. “Hitting that mileage was the first target we had, and we’ve achieved that without any major problems and things have run largely to plan. , because we weren’t able to go out and test while in lockdown and we had to learn to work in a different way, but it didn’t have a negative impact on the programme. “We completed the miles we wanted to complete and had the chance to cycle different drivers in the car to gain their feedback, which has been important.” The system has been designed to be as simple and straightforward to use as possible, with the battery pack positioned where success ballast is currently located in the car to make it easily accessible and the electric motor incorporated into the Xtrac gearbox that’s used across the grid. That allows cars to run on electricity only when leaving the pits to start a session and ensures the system is easily incorporated into any car, regardless of which engine is under the bonnet. “As the gearbox is a spec part, it made sense to incorporate the electric motor in that way,” explained Bateman. “It means that the engine isn’t a big factor, and the only real difference there will be for teams is that the installation will be slightly different for a front-wheel-drive car compared with a rear-wheel-drive car. We now have a BMW 1 Series that we’re working with alongside the Toyota, and the two will continue to test so we can provide teams with all of the information they require when it comes to preparing for next year.” A button on the steering is used to deploy the electrical power as and when the drivers wish for a maximum amount of time per lap, and this will eplace the existing success ballast system. That will add a different element of strategy into a race weekend, putting the emphasis on the driver behind the wheel rather than on the engineering team in the pits. “I’ve really enjoyed the experience of being part of the testing programme and the work that has gone in has been hugely important when you consider that there will be a full grid of cars using this system next year,” said Jordan. “We’re now at the stage where the system is reliable and working as it should do, and we know there’s more to come in terms of performance, because we’re still running safe at the moment. “As a driver, the system is very simple, as it’s a case of pressing a button when you want to use the extra power, and I’ve no doubt it will spice up the racing. It isn’t like DRS [drag reduction system] in Formula 1, where you can just drive past people, as that isn’t the aim, but more of an exaggerated slipstream where you can get alongside someone to attack. “If you have a good driver in a good car that’s well engineered, you can work out how to deal with running ballast, but you can’t do anything when it comes to horsepower, so it will be interesting to see how [the hybrid tech] impacts the racing and how drivers decide to use the extra power available. “For me, I think it’s important that the fans watching don’t see anything different compared with what they see now. There will be something to indicate when the hybrid tech is being used, but as far as fans are concerned, it will still be a touring car and it will sound like it always did.” link : https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motorsport-news-btcc/new-era-behind-scenes-btccs-hybrid-race-debut

XYLOPHAGOU, Cyprus Oct 15 (Reuters) - A Cypriot community's endeavour to pay homage to the humble spud has gone viral after their 5 metre (16 ft) tall statue of a Cyprus potato drew comparisons to a giant penis. The fibreglass replica, which cost 8,000 euros ($9,300) and sits by a main road at the entrance to the village of Xylophagou, has drawn widespread ribbing on social media. "Other countries have instantly recognisable monuments, now we have ours," Euripides Evriviades, who is a former Cyprus ambassador to the UK, wrote on Twitter. Alongside he posted a collage juxtaposing an image of the Big Potato with the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty and Hong Kong Big Buddha. But Xylophagou's residents are taking the ridicule in their stride, insisting that the beige-coloured knobbly design named "The Big Potato" is a faithful reproduction of its main potato crop, the Spunta. Community leader George Tasou said those who saw in the statue anything more than a potato was guilty of a dirty mind. "That is, I think, talk of a mind possessed," he said. "Whether we like it or not this potato, the Spunta, is thin and long." Potatoes are the mainstay of Cyprus, known for its rich red fertile soil. Next year Xylophagou plans another novelty with its favourite produce; frying 800 kgs of potatoes in a chip-fest. Tasou said work on the Big Potato was incomplete and that it would be mounted in local stone with a bench, a park and a small store, bringing the total cost of the project to 15,000 euros. "It will be a landmark," he said as giggling visitors behind him posed for selfies. link: https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/cypruss-homage-humble-spud-goes-viral-2021-10-15/

Detectives are continuing to question a 25-year-old British man who was detained at the scene of Friday's fatal stabbing of MP Sir David Amess. Officers spent Saturday searching two addresses in the London area band are not seeking anyone else. Police are treating the attack in Essex as a terrorist incident, which may be linked to Islamist extremism. The BBC understands the man was referred to the counter-terrorist Prevent scheme a few years ago. Prevent is the UK's terrorism-prevention programme, which aims to stop people being radicalised. Teachers, members of the public, the NHS and others can refer individuals to a local panel of police, social workers and other experts who decide whether and how to intervene in their lives. Engagement in the scheme is voluntary and it is not a criminal sanction. It is unclear whether any further action was taken in the case of the suspect. The suspect, who has not been named, is being held on suspicion of murder at an Essex police station, where he will be facing questions from the Metropolitan Police's counter terrorism team. Police could potentially hold him until Tuesday before having to charge him, or let him go. Government sources told the BBC that from initial inquiries, the UK national appeared to be of Somali heritage. BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner said Whitehall officials were saying the arrested man was not on a database of terror suspects. The UK's threat level has not changed since Friday and remains at "substantial", meaning a terror attack is likely. Follow live updates Sombre mood as town bewildered by MP's killing Not the end of MPs meeting public, says Patel How a tragic day unfolded in Leigh-on-Sea Obituary: Sir David Amess Did you witness the attack? Email haveyoursay@bbc.co.uk Sir David, a Conservative MP since 1983, was holding one of his regular Friday meetings with his constituents at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea when he was stabbed multiple times. The 69-year-old was married with four daughters and a son. A candlelit vigil is being held in Leigh-on Sea to mark Sir David's life. Sir David is the second MP to be killed in recent years, following the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox in July 2016. This latest attack has raised concerns for the safety of MPs, many of whom hold constituency surgeries which anyone can attend. Home Secretary Priti Patel said security measures were being put in place to protect MPs - but insisted they would carry on serving the country unimpeded. "We will carry on, we live in an open society, a democracy," she said during a visit to the scene of the attack with Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and Commons speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle. "We cannot be cowed by any individual or any motivation... to stop us from functioning, to serve our elected democracy." Ms Patel maintained a balance could be found to allow face-to-face meetings with constituents to continue. However, Conservative MP Tobias Elwood - who came to the aid of a stabbed police officer during the 2017 terror attack in Westminster - suggested MPs speak to constituents on the phone or over Zoom for the time being. Labour MP Diane Abbott said she would prefer to meet constituents behind a screen to prevent possible stab attacks. And Kim Leadbeater, the sister of Mrs Cox, said her partner had asked her to stand down as MP for Batley and Spen after Sir David's death. Scotland Yard's decision that the killing of Sir David Amess was an act of terrorism confirms that, on the basis of what they know so far, the killer was motivated to use violence to further their cause. There's no public suggestion from investigations at the moment that there is a specific additional threat to MPs. But detectives and colleagues in MI5 will be delving deeply into the life of the suspect to understand how he reached this mindset - and whether this was an attack by a "lone actor" or someone who is part of a network. Secondly, it confirms the initial conclusion that there would need to be more resources thrown at the investigation. Behind the scenes, a wider range of detectives and support staff will now have been brought into action. If officers have recovered the suspect's mobile phone, they will now be forensically examining its contents to uncover potential evidence of mindset and planning. A phone - and any bank cards - will also help detectives track the suspect's movements in the days and weeks before the incident. That in turn leads them to CCTV, so they can build a three-dimensional view of his life. 2px presentational grey line Tributes to Sir David have been pouring in from politicians as well as his local constituents. The prime minister described him as "one of the kindest, nicest, most gentle people in politics", with an "outstanding record of passing laws to help the most vulnerable". Ms Patel called Sir David a "man of the people" who was killed doing "a job he loved". Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said it was a "dark and shocking day", adding that the country had "been here before" with the death of Jo Cox. Father Jeff Woolnough, a parish priest who led a mass on Friday evening in Sir David's memory, described him as a "great, great guy" and said faith communities had "lost their greatest supporter". Members of Southend-On-Sea's Muslim community said, in a joint statement, his death was an "indefensible atrocity" and that Sir David would be remembered for his warmth, selflessness and kindness. link : https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-58940491

Po[CENSORED]r developer Q&A platform Stack Overflow has shared that the shift to remote work has prompted more cybersecurity questions across platforms than any breach. To do their bid for the cybersecurity awareness month, Stack Overflow analyzed the cybersecurity topics across the developer collaboration platform to track the evolution of security conversations within the developer community. Its analysis revealed that the previous biggest peak in questions came right after Yahoo! disclosed its 2013 breach in 2016 and later announced another larger breach at the end of the same year. We've put together a list of the best endpoint protection software Protect your devices with these best antivirus software These are the best malware removal software on the market Interestingly though the volume of security-related questions at the start of lockdown exceeded that of any year in Stack Overflow history, notes Stack Overflow’s Senior Data Analyst, David Gibson. Pandemic pandemonium Gibson says that historically security-related activity across the platform appeared to be tied to major breaches. All that changed with the en-masse shift to remote work in the beginning of 2020. “Stack Overflow saw an undeniable pandemic-related spike at the beginning of 2020 when the shift to remote work prompted a nearly 60% increase in questions related to authentication,” notes Gibson. His analysis also confirmed a correlation between the types of security incidents, and the volume of questions. For instance, when there’s a breach due to a software vulnerability, cybersecurity-related questions within the developer community rise too. “While vulnerabilities are inevitable, developers shifted from just reacting to breaches to proactively trying to secure everyone during the move to remote work,” concludes Gibson, noting that the biggest takeaway from the analysis is the shift to a culture of learning. link :https://www.techradar.com/news/remote-working-sees-cybersecurity-questions-soar-on-stack-overflow

Although numerous companies have announced M.2 SSDs designed specifically for Sony's PlayStation 5 game console, there are enthusiasts who already have unused high-end SSDs and who could use them with their PlayStation 5 consoles. For this audience, SilverStone has launched its TP05 heatsink for M.2-2280 drives that will fit perfectly into a PS5. SilverStone's TP05 (SST-TP05B) comprises of an aluminum heatsink featuring a 5.6-mm z-height, an aluminum bottom cover, and two types of thermal pads: a 0.5 mm thick for the bottom of the drive (with a 1.8W/mK thermal conductivity) and a 1.75-mm thick for the top of the drive (with a 1.5W/mK thermal conductivity). The cooling system can be used with any M.2-2280 SSD and will ensure decent heat dissipation under high loads from both sides of the drive, reports Hermitage Akihabara. While the PlayStation 5 can accommodate off-the-shelf SSDs made by third parties, the console has very specific requirements for these devices. First up, it should feature a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface and provide sequential read speed of 5500 MB/s or higher. Secondly, thickness of its primary heatsink should not exceed 8 mm, whereas its secondary heatsink should not be thicker than 2.45 mm. The whole thing isn't unlike building your own external SSD, just for something you put inside your PS5. It is certainly not hard to pick an SSD already equipped with a cooling system that is compliant with Sony PS5's requirements (some, like Samsung, are making versions of their SSDs with heatsinks just for this purpose), but for those who already have a drive or plan to purchase an SSD without a heatsink and equip it with one themselves, getting SilverStone's TP05 makes sense. SilverStone did not announce pricing of its SST-TP05B heatsink, and we're not sure of its availability. But this should make plenty of more otherwise-compliant SSDs that you have around your house easily fit Sony's recommendations. link : https://www.tomshardware.com/news/silvestone-announces-ssd-heatsink-for-ps5

In Path of Exile's next quarterly league expansion, Scourge, the cursed continent of Wraeclast is coming under siege by a demonic army from a parallel timeline. And, naturally, you'll also be able to venture into this extra-doomed parallel world to smash demons so you can reforge your weapons in their blood. At this rate, Path of Exile's Wraeclast is never going to make a Top 10 fantasy island getaways. Like all of Path of Exile's seasonal expansions and leagues, players will need to roll a fresh character to encounter a new NPC—a refugee from this parallel, doomed timeline where demons have rudely taken over and redecorated with a lot of fire and eldritch tentacles. This survivor entrusts you with a demonic artifact, the Blood Crucible, and tells you to keep it safe by embedding it in your flesh. Which of course you'll do because nobody on this continent has ever backed down from a bad idea. The Crucible works a bit like the Horadric Cube from Diablo 2, only fueled by murder. It allows you to re-forge already rare items with corrupted demonic upgrades, offset by penalties. These 'scourged' items can go through the process multiple times, re-rolling it with higher tiers of positive and negative traits each time. You just need to grind up some demons to make it work. After charging the Crucible with spilled monster-blood, players can press a button to warp to a parallel hell-version of the area you're in for a quick rampage. It looks very cool (in a red, glowy, lava and tentacle-filled kinda way) and is po[CENSORED]ted with thousands of demons. Beat them up, harvest their corruption and pump it into the equipment you want to upgrade. Rinse, repeat, and maybe harvest some new 'tainted' currency items in the demon universe that'll let you reconfigure the The Crucible also gains experience and levels up, letting you pick from a variety of perks to alter how it behaves, giving you additional incentive to keep using it and experimenting on items you might have otherwise discarded. And of course there's more to the league, with three distinct factions of demons to fight, each with their own bosses and special loot. Scourge content extends well into Path Of Exile's sprawling Atlas Of Worlds endgame, which is also where this expansion's other major slab of content lies. As seems typical with the last few expansions, Grinding Gear Games have once more reworked the Atlas, the dimension-hopping adventure players go on after completing the main story. Rather than being a major overhaul (that's coming in the next expansion), it feels like they're tightening it up and turbo-charging it a little. There are now fewer map nodes to work your way across, split across four regions, down from the previous eight. Grinding Gear say this will halve the grind to reach the final round of endgame content. Even though the grind is reduced, that's not to say there's less to do in the Atlas. Far from it. Scourge brings a whole bundle of extra tough 'Uber' challenges to the table, including optional ultra-hard versions of the Breach, Blight, Legion, Delirium and Delve leagues. There'll be bigger fights, remixed and more frequent boss fights, and some new rewards for players with builds min-maxed enough to tackle these challenges, which will reward players with some extremely powerful new unique items. And oh, what builds they'll be. Scourge also brings a revamp to the game's intimidating-looking passive skill tree, adding a major new feature: masteries. All notable (see 'build-defining') passives are linked to a similarly themed Mastery slot on the grid. After claiming that notable passive, you can spend additional skill points to pick additional, related perks from the mastery slot. Simply put, there'll be less skill points spent on reaching cool perks and more on notably upgrading your character. Wanted: time management skills It wouldn't be a Path Of Exile expansion without a bundle of new active skills, too. There's a handful of fun skills that could create whole new character builds. Energy Blade lets you channel your energy shield into a powerful lightning-element melee weapon. Temporal Rift lets you rewind time by four seconds, returning you to your previous position with whatever stats you had at the time. Take a big hit or cast something that drained all your mana? Just rewind! Tornado is an especially fun looking skill. It summons a big, slow-moving homing tornado that does damage over time. The Tornado also picks up the properties of any projectiles you fire into it, just in case you want to create your own all-consuming fire twister. Be honest, you do. Poisonous Concoction adds another skill to the growing alchemist archetype, letting you throw the corrupted contents of your health flasks to deal some beefy AoE poison damage, with damage scaling with how potent the healing flasks are. There's also a whole new set of six Link skills designed for co-op. These link two players with a visible tether that allows them to share various defensive or offensive buffs, with the thrilling trade-off that if one linked player dies, then their partner does too. Anyone who loved the dynamic of the Heavy and the Medic in Team Fortress 2 is probably going to have some fun here. These new skills should help offset the coming nerfs to Aura skills, which were previously the go-to buffs for co-op players. These are just the big-ticket features of the Scourge expansion, which is easily one of the largest the game has seen in a while. There's also been some sweeping balance changes, some quality-of-life improvements to guild hideouts, and a major rework to how personal hideouts work. Now players are free to decorate their personal space however they see fit, untethered by the old Favor system where you had to buy decor items. Perfect for fans of The Sims or Animal Crossing that woke up and chose violence. While I'm excited to dive into Scourge and the new Atlas endgame, there are a couple small flies in the ointment of this expansion. Scourge marks the first expansion where Grinding Gear is removing big content from the endgame. To make room for a slightly revised set of Expedition events on the Atlas, the Perandus league from early 2016 is being retired. Studio head Chris Wilson also confirmed that this will become standard moving forward—the weakest and least liked leagues will be tapping out to make room for new content in the Atlas. As Scourge is such a major expansion (featuring a league, an endgame rework and some major passive and active skill tweaks), Grinding Gear also had to put on hold their plans to revisit and upgrade the earlier acts of the campaign. Chris Wilson was keen to assure me this was a temporary shift in priorities, and they'll be looking at ways to update Act 2 onwards with the start of the next season. Act 1's extra enemy variety and meaner bosses made for an exciting time at the start of the last league. It seems we've got plenty to look forward to before the release of Path Of Exile 2 next year, which will be rolling out as a gigantic free expansion to the game. The Path of Exile: Scourge expansion launches as a free update on October 22nd. link : https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/path-of-exile-scourge-expansion/

Honda has revealed its first electric SUV for the Chinese market – along with three bold new concept vehicles that will all lead to production cars within the next five years. The Japanese firm has plans to launch 10 electric cars in China, which will all use the new e:N Series branding, in the next five years. It also says it will export a number of those cars from China for sale in other markets. The 'e' part of the name references the firm's e:Technology brand, while the 'N' stands for now and next, and represents "new value creation for the next-generation of mobility". The first two e:N models, the e:NS1 and e:NP1, are sibling cars based on the HR-V and will be offered by Honda's Chinese joint ventures, Dongfeng Honda and GAC Honda. Both are due to go on sale in spring 2022. Honda says the e:N Series models will use an architecture "developed exclusively for EVs – it is a stretched version of the Honda E platform – and will offer a "sporty and exhilarating driver experience". The e:NS1 and e:NP1 are developments of the e:Prototype SUV that Honda displayed at the Beijing motor show in 2020. The production models have five rather than three doors, and the links to the HR-V are more pronounced, despite the blanked-off fascia for the electric car. Honda has also shown three concept models, the e:N Coupé, e:N SUV and e:N GT, which it plans to use as the basis for production cars in the next five years. These machines show more aggressive and bold electric-only styling than the e:NS1 and e:NP1. Honda has not released any performance or technical details of the two new production models or the three concepts. The new electric models are confirmed for China only, but the firm said it is "planning global exports of e:N Series models developed and produced in China to deliver new value to a greater number of customers around the world." link: https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/honda-reveals-first-electric-suvs-and-three-bold-concepts

Written by Jessica Testa Clapping, whispering, cameras snapping, questionable music: These are the sounds of a classic fashion show. Bursts of laughter? Those are less common. Yet several were heard Oct. 2, rolling around the 19th-century Parisian theater where the great and storied house of Cristóbal Balenciaga skipped the traditional catwalk and screened a special 10-minute episode of “The Simpsons.” It was a surprise more than a year in the making, and the result of a sometimes grueling collaboration between two exacting creative entities known for their attention to detail. So far it has been viewed more than 5 million times on YouTube. ALSO READ |‘The Simpsons’ make runway debut in Balenciaga at the Paris Fashion Week In the episode, Homer writes to Balenciaga (“Dear Balun, Balloon, Baleen, Balenciaga-ga,” he says as he struggles to pronounce the famous fashion name) for Marge’s birthday, explaining that his wife has always wanted to own something by the brand. He asks for the cheapest item, which the Balenciaga team interprets as “just one of those American gags nobody gets” and sends him a dress that costs 19,000 euros. After wearing it briefly, Marge returns the dress with a note saying she’ll “always remember those 30 minutes of feeling just a little special.” Back in Europe, Balenciaga artistic director Demna Gvasalia declares her note “the saddest thing I’ve ever heard, and I grew up in the Soviet Union. This is exactly the kind of woman I want to reach!” He then travels to Springfield and decides to “rescue” the “style-deprived” by inviting them to model his clothes in Paris, explaining that he wants “the world to see real people in my show.” The 10 minutes are packed with Easter eggs for die-hard fans of both “The Simpsons” and Balenciaga. A private Balenciaga jet has landing gear that looks like the brand’s famous sock sneakers; Waylon Smithers chooses a dress to wear when given his choice of outfit; Lisa at first acknowledges that walking a runway is “superficial” but then enjoys it immensely. The collaboration began in April 2020, when Gvasalia sent “Simpsons” creator Matt Groening an email about working together. ALSO READ |Homer Simpson was made for fashion Gvasalia, 40, who was born in Georgia and watched the show when he was growing up, said the idea came to him during the first lockdown of 2020. He has a penchant for inserting Balenciaga into mass-market trends: Under his direction, the brand has collaborated with other American sensations, like Crocs and Fortnite. About “The Simpsons,” he said, “I always loved the tongue-in-cheek humor, the romance and the charming naiveness of it.” Al Jean, an executive producer and writer of “The Simpsons,” said that when he learned of the Balenciaga project in January, “my response was, ‘What’s Balenciaga?’” He turned to Wikipedia for answers. His first pitch to Balenciaga had a similar framing to the one they ended up going with — Marge’s birthday wish — but diverged with Gvasalia’s character deciding that the brand’s next show would be held in Springfield. When the Balenciaga plane lands there, its models aren’t allowed into the United States because they’re too thin and beautiful. Springfield’s residents become the models, their nuclear plant is the runway, and the ghost of Balenciaga makes an appearance. ALSO READ |Homer Simpson was made for fashion But Balenciaga preferred that Springfield be brought to Paris, Jean said. From there, the story was revised and tweaked — to the point that the writers joked about “Draft 52 of the Balenciaga script” — up until two days before the Paris showing. Gvasalia made specific contributions to the script, Jean said. For example, the episode ends with Homer embracing and singing “La Mer” to Marge on a post-show party boat on the Seine. But Gvasalia wanted one final joke, so he asked that Homer’s jacket be set on fire by a Frenchman smoking a cigar. Jean then suggested that Anna Wintour, who had appeared in the front row of the fashion show, try to put out the fire with expensive Champagne, which Homer tries to drink instead. “She said, ‘Please don’t have me do that,’ so it became Demna,” Jean said. (Wintour otherwise approved of her likeness being used but declined to voice her character, he said.) And that earlier line about Gvasalia growing up in the Soviet Union? The “Simpsons” team had decided to cut it, but Gvasalia asked for it to be reinstated. He also asked, the day before the show, to change the color of a tear Wintour sheds while watching Marge model. The tear was too light, and it wouldn’t read on-screen unless it was a darker blue. Jean and director David Silverman agreed. “They were definitely our match in terms of, to the last detail, making sure everything is perfect,” Jean said. “The animation crew, this is the hardest thing they’ve had to do since ‘The Simpsons Movie.’” Silverman, who directed that 2007 film, said the biggest challenge was getting the “accuracy needed in the clothing,” which involved inventive post-animation effects to capture the distinct textures and movement of, for example, Marge’s runway look: a gold metallic ballgown. ALSO READ |‘Embiggen’, The Simpsons’ iconic word added to Merriam-Webster dictionary Balenciaga sent the “Simpsons” team 15 looks to choose from for the final show, all based on designs from the last five years. But putting them on the bodies of these universally recognizable cartoon characters wasn’t so straightforward. “It was tricky for us, capturing that balance of caricature and the integrity of the clothing,” Silverman said. “You’re translating the look of real clothing, real designs on these characters that aren’t exactly human proportions.” Silverman, who joked-but-not-really that this is how he spent his summer vacation, studied runway footage to figure out what the audience should be wearing and how the lighting should be hitting the catwalk. The script also had to capture the particular absurdity of the luxury fashion world and Balenciaga’s stature in that world — something that can’t be absorbed on Wikipedia. Jean said that in addition to the crash course in Balenciaga earlier in the year, watching the Netflix series about Halston, who was a great fan of Balenciaga, helped him understand the evergreen excessive culture of fashion. The supporting characters are also based on real people and animals, including Gvasalia’s husband, Loïk Gomez; their two dogs; the chief creative officer, Martina Tiefenthaler (who voiced herself); and workers from Balenciaga’s atelier who are finishing the collection on the plane while singing, “formidable, formidable.” ALSO READ |The Simpsons actor Hank Azaria on playing Apu: ‘I feel the need to personally apologise to every Indian’ This is one of Gvasalia’s favorite scenes in the episode, he said: “It just makes me so happy every time I watch it.” As for Gvasalia’s voice, “we had to try to talk him into playing himself, but he didn’t want to,” Jean said. He felt that was consistent with Gvasalia’s recent decision to fully obscure his face and body during public appearances, creating confusion among observers as to whether it was really him. When asked why he wanted to align Balenciaga with “The Simpsons” and whether he felt the brands had any commonalities, Gvasalia said that “it’s more personal to me.” “I did not want to align anything or make sense of anything. I just wanted to create an iconic visual story.” While the novelty of the collaboration made it feel surprising, the brands share a similar ethos. They have an appreciation for self-referentiality, breaking the rules of presentation (airing an episode with live animation; turning a red carpet into a runway show without telling anyone) and bridging the highbrow and lowbrow. Jean called Gvasalia an “excellent collaborator,” and Gvasalia described the experience as “the highest level of collaboration” and “a dream come true.” “I did not realize how complex it is to create a 10-minute-long episode, so huge respect to that,” he said. Whether the act was meant to challenge fashion’s self-seriousness or the public’s notions of luxury — to bring Balenciaga to the suburban masses or to bring the suburban masses to Balenciaga — is something he will let the critics debate. What did he want out of this? “A smile and a good dose of fun.” This article originally appeared in The New York Times. link : https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/fashion/homer-simpson-was-made-for-fashion-7569636/

At least six people have been killed and 32 others injured by gunfire in the Lebanese capital, Beirut. It began during a protest by the Shia Muslim groups Hezbollah and Amal against the judge investigating last year's huge blast at the city's port. They said Christian snipers from the Lebanese Forces (LF) faction fired at the crowd to drag Lebanon into strife - a claim denied by the LF. Huge tension surrounds the probe into the port explosion that killed 219. Hezbollah and its allies claim the judge is biased, but the victims' families support his work. No-one has yet been held accountable for the August 2020 disaster, in which swathes of the city were devastated. In response to Thursday's shooting, some of Lebanon's worst violence in years, Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced a day of mourning on Friday. Meanwhile, President Michel Aoun said: "We will not allow anyone to take the country hostage to their own interests." 'The day our city exploded' The ship of ‘lost lives and dreams’ The inferno and the mystery ship What began as a protest outside the Palace of Justice - the main court building - by hundreds of people arguing the investigation had become politicised and demanding the removal of Judge Tarek Bitar escalated remarkably quickly, reports the BBC's Anna Foster in Beirut. Heavy gunfire erupted in the streets as the crowd passed through a roundabout in the central Tayouneh-Badaro area. Local residents had to flee their homes and schoolchildren ducked for cover under their desks as men armed with automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenade launchers - believed to have been members of Shia and Christian militias - exchanged fire in the streets. The clashes continued for several hours before calm was restored. At a nearby school, teachers instructed young children to lie face down on the ground with their hands on their heads, a witness told Reuters news agency. Hospital and military sources said some of those killed were shot in the head. They included a woman who was hit by a stray bullet while inside her home. Hezbollah and Amal accused a staunch opponent, the Christian Lebanese Forces party, of being behind the attack on the protesters. The two Shia organisations said demonstrators were "subject to an armed attack by groups from the Lebanese Forces party that deployed in neighbouring streets and on rooftops, and engaged in direct sniping activity and intentional killing". Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea condemned the violence and appealed for calm. "The main cause of these developments lies in the presence of uncontrolled and widespread weapons that threaten the citizens at any time and in any place," he tweeted. Mr Mikati called on everyone to "calm down and not be drawn into sedition for any reason whatsoever". The army said it had deployed troops to search for the assailants, and warned that they would "shoot at any gunman on the roads". Earlier on Thursday, a court dismissed a legal complaint brought by two former government ministers and Amal MPs - Ali Hassan Khalil and Ghazi Zaiter - whom Judge Bitar has sought to question on suspicion of negligence in connection with the port explosion. The two men, who deny any wrongdoing, accused the judge of bias. Families of the victims had condemned the complaint, which caused the probe to be suspended for the second time in three weeks. They have accused the country's political leadership of trying to shield itself from scrutiny. "Keep your hands off the judiciary," they warned the cabinet on Wednesday after ministers allied to Hezbollah demanded that Judge Bitar be replaced. The port blast happened after a fire detonated 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, a combustible chemical widely used as agricultural fertiliser, that had been stored unsafely in a port warehouse for almost six years. Senior officials were aware of the material's existence and the danger it posed but failed to secure, remove or destroy it. link : https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-58901611

G.Skill has announced a new DDR5 memory lineup, featuring the Trident Z5 and Trident Z5 RGB. Designed to compete with the best RAM on the market, these kits will be designed for Intel's Alder Lake platform and built to run at speeds of up to 6400MHz. Each kit will come with hand-screened Samsung DDR5 ICs to ensure maximum performance and overclocking capability. The new Z5 kits appear to be very fast compared to the standard JEDEC DDR5 6400Mhz standard of CL46. We don't know how far these new memory chips can be pushed, or what voltages they will tolerate. But if history repeats itself, we could see another "Samsung B-die" moment with these new ICs. Aesthetically the new DDR5 modules feature a much more sleek and smooth exterior shape, compared to previous Trident Z models, likely giving the DIMMs a more elegant feel. The heatsinks themselves are made out of brushed aluminum and come in either black or silver. The black Z5s feature a matte black finish on the heatsink, and a glossy strip on the side with Trident Z5 badging. The silver model also maintains the black glossy stripe, but the heatsink is colored in silver, giving the silver Z5's a two-toned color theme. There will also be two color options in the form of RGB and non-RGB variants. The RGB models will feature a lightbar that resides on top of the heatsink, which is similar to previous Trident Z models. You will be able to get three memory frequency configurations for the new Trident Z5s, ranging from 5600MHz to 6000MHz, and 6400MHz. Each frequency can be configured with either CL40 timings or faster CL36 timings. All kits will come in a 32GB (2x16GB) dual channel kit configuration. Worldwide availability will start sometime in November of this year. link : https://www.tomshardware.com/news/gskill-trident-z5-ddr5-samsung-ics

From healers to explosives experts, here's every Cleaner in Back 4 Blood. Before you grab a gun and start blasting zombies, you have to choose your Back 4 Blood character. Or rather, your 'Cleaner'. With eight in the game, there’ll be plenty of options to fit your playstyle. Perhaps you’ll find your perfect match in melee expert, Holly, or Army Ranger, Walker. Who knows, it might even be conspiracy theorist, Hoffman. Who qualifies as the best Cleaner largely depends on your role in the team. Some are true Ridden-killing machines, while others are more focused on keeping the team alive. Here’s an overview of all the Back 4 Blood characters, their abilities, and how to unlock them. How to unlock Back 4 Blood characters Before you get to choosing your main, you'll notice once you start the game that only half are available to begin with: Hoffman, Doc, Jim, and Karlee are missing. But if you were keen on choosing them, don't fret. You'll unlock the four remaining characters once you've finished the first Chapter of Act 1, The Devil's Return while playing online with others. With the four levels included in it done, you'll be treated to a cutscene and, crucially, the missing heroes. As running out of ammo is pretty common in Back 4 Blood, Hoffman is almost always useful. Thanks to his first skill, he can easily recover ammo for himself as well as his teammates. He’ll also upgrade everyone’s overall ammo capacity and he can carry an extra Offensive item (like pipe bombs and molotovs). The latter is a lot of fun and super handy if you need some quick kills (and ammo). Team skill: +10 increased health. Scoring a precision kill increases his accuracy by 20% for 5 seconds. Damage is increased by 10%. Walker is one of the best Back 4 Blood characters to pick if you want to show off a high kill count. For starters, he deals higher damage compared to other Cleaners. Furthermore, he gains increased accuracy if you manage to kill Common Infected with headshots or Special Infected by aiming at their weak spots. His team skill isn’t bad either, but may feel a bit superfluous if you already have Doc or Mom on the team. Team skill: plus 25% Trauma Resistance. Can heal each ally once per level for 25 HP, using her 'field dressings'. Plus 20% healing efficiency. Perhaps the name ‘Doc’ gives it away somewhat, but this Back 4 Blood Cleaner is the game’s specialized healer class. Her team skill alone makes her extremely useful, as Trauma Damage (reducing max HP after talking hits) can be a real pain. Doc’s first skill also means she can heal low-health allies even when you’re all out of med kits. Team skill: grants one extra life (every ally can be incapacitated one more time). Can instantly revive an incapacitated teammate (once per level). Plus one Support inventory slot. Let’s not beat around the bush: Mom’s ability to instantly revive a teammate is pretty damn good. It’s only once per level, but it can easily save the team from a domino effect when surrounded by a large Horde. Mom can also carry extra bandages and med kits. In comparison to Doc, Mom’s support role is more focused on bringing downed allies back in the game and less on normal healing. This elderly biker truly shines once the team gets in real trouble. link : https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/back-4-blood-characters-cleaners/

Williams Racing has stunned the Formula 1 world and catapulted itself into a 'green' pole position by announcing a comprehensive plan to become climate positive by 2030. The plan, developed over the past year to embrace all relevant global initiatives such as the UN Climate Change Agenda, goes much further towards building and proving the sustainability of motorsport than any current racing team or series, and undoubtedly helps to demonstrate that F1 racing can remain viable far into the future. It also opens a path the whole sport could follow towards climate positivity, putting the world’s premier motorsport code on a path to match or even beat the sustainability credentials of all-electric racing series such as Formula E, which up to now have taken the limelight. Williams has already achieved FIA three-star environmental accreditation, a tough standard. Announcing his revolutionary climate positive plan today, Williams CEO Jost Capito drew a strong link between the team’s new green agenda and the benefits its technical progress can bring to the wider car world, citing Williams’ “strong heritage of developing Formula 1 technology and transferring it to the EV, sustainable transport and energy sectors”. Our planet and society are changing faster than ever,” he said. “We want to push the envelope and be the pace setter for sustainability in global motorsport and in the wider automotive industry. We will be using our knowledge to nurture and develop advanced technology to meet this goal.” Capito said that, as a result of recent sustainability research, Williams Racing already understands where improvement is required, but (in a marked departure from the team’s usual on-track philosophy) it is also willing to share best practice and learn from those who share its sustainability goals. Williams’ commitment to 2030 climate positivity rides on five pillars, says Capito. These include climate action to reduce carbon emissions for travel and at the team’s own Grove HQ; new moves to preserve the biodiversity of Williams’ 60-acre campus; sustainable innovation such as lifecycle management of racing cars; improving access to the sport for all; and showing a willingness to become the pace-setter in these areas and more. Williams is working towards its goals with specialist sustainability agency Enovation Consulting. LATEST DRIVES “Formula 1 has the power to inspire millions across the world,” said Jost Capito. “As the pinnacle of so many advanced technologies, it can also create technical solutions to help tackle the challenges we face. My hope is that Williams Racing can inspire all those connected with our sport and beyond, using motorsport as a catalyst for significant and long-lasting change. link : https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motorsport-news-f1/williams-f1-be-climate-positive-2030

"A girl's role model is often the women in her family and I unknowingly imbibed a lot of customs, traditions and folklore very naturally," Sagarika wrote on Instagram Adding a feather in her cap, actor Sagarika Ghatge has turned fashion designer with the launch of her own brand. The 35-year-old revealed that the brand, called ‘Akutee’, was inspired by the women in her family. She shared a series of Instagram posts to talk about her inspiration. In one of the posts, she wrote, “Through the misty haze of my childhood memories I distinctly remember being surrounded by such beauty and grace. What seemed like a perfectly normally childhood was in fact I now realise a lesson in grace and Ghatge went on to share how she “naturally” imbibed traditions, which reflect in her designs, from the women in the family. “A girl’s role model is often the women in her family and I unknowingly imbibed a lot of customs, traditions and folklore very naturally. Looking at their timeless elegance I just couldn’t wait to grow up to be as beautiful and poised as them,” she expressed. Fashion does not necessarily mean extravagant ensembles, and it was from the ladies in the family that Sagarika first learned there is elegance in simplicity. “…I saw them dress up in simple kotas, chanderis and chiffon sarees, accessorised with minimalistic jewellery and some beautifully matching glass bangles,” the Chak De! India actor added. Talking about her designs, Sagarika revealed that she curated her first collection with her mother. “My first collection is very special to me as I have curated it with my mother, who has been my source of inspiration for Akutee,” she wrote. link : https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/fashion/sagarika-ghatge-turns-fashion-designer-shares-story-behind-inspiration-photos-7569551/

Russia has denied using energy as a political weapon, amid surging prices across Europe that have sent gas bills in many households skyrocketing. Russia, one of Europe's biggest natural gas providers, has been accused of intentionally withholding supplies. President Vladimir Putin said such claims were "complete rubbish... and politically motivated tittle-tattle". The European Commission has been outlining measures member states can take to combat rising prices. The wholesale price of gas has increased by 250% since January, triggering a knock-on spike in costs for consumers and businesses. Energy prices have hit record highs for various reasons, including high demand for natural gas as economies recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. EXPLAINED: Why are gas prices so high? ANALYSIS: Gas crisis leaves Europe searching for solutions 'There is no refusal, none' - Putin Speaking at a Moscow energy forum on Wednesday, President Putin blamed the current crisis on Europe, saying that after a cold winter Europeans had not pumped sufficient volumes of gas into storage facilities. He said it was "very important" to "suggest a long-term mechanism to stabilise the energy market". Mr Putin stressed that Gazprom, Russia's gas giant, was supplying gas to Europe at maximum levels under existing contracts, and was ready to provide more if requested. "We will increase by as much as our partners ask us. There is no refusal, none," he said. Europe's gas crisis has multiple causes: from a shortfall in renewable energy to low gas stocks after a cold winter. Plus, a surge in demand as countries emerge from the pandemic. But could another factor be Russia? In recent weeks Moscow has faced accusations that it has contributed to the crisis and forced gas prices higher by declining to supply additional gas to Europe. "Politically motivated tittle-tattle," says President Putin. But the International Energy Agency believes Russia could do more to increase gas availability to Europe. Kremlin critics suspect it is using the crisis to fast track European approval for Russia's controversial new pipeline. When European regulators sign the paperwork, Nord Stream 2 will carry natural gas from Russia to Germany, bypassing Ukraine. Opponents of the pipeline believe it is a political project designed to increase Europe's dependency on Russian energy. Supporters insist it will provide Europe with a cheaper and more efficient supply of gas. On Wednesday, Vladimir Putin insisted Nord Stream 2 was "a commercial project". That was followed by a not so subtle hint. The president said he was "100% certain" that if the pipeline was functioning, that would ease Europe's energy problems. 2px presentational grey line What about the new EU measures? Earlier on Wednesday, the European Commission's energy chief, Kadri Simson, said the EU's executive was responding to calls for urgent action by unveiling an "energy price toolbox". The toolbox outlines steps member states can take to reduce energy bills in their countries without breaching EU law. It mostly confirms the measures national governments can already use, but considers what more the Commission can do. Ms Simson said member states were best placed to ease the burden of rising energy prices as winter approaches. She urged them to consider emergency income support for vulnerable households, state aid for companies, and targeted tax reductions. She also advised member states to temporarily pause bill payments where necessary, and put in place safeguards to avoid disconnections from the grid. "Rising global energy prices are a serious concern for the EU," Ms Simson said. "As we emerge from the pandemic and begin our economic recovery, it is important to protect vulnerable consumers and support European companies." On top of those measures, Ms Simson said the Commission would look into the possible benefits of EU countries jointly buying natural gas. She said countries could collectively buy gas to form a strategic reserve. But, like the joint scheme to buy Covid vaccines, participation would be voluntary. The idea was proposed recently by governments that want more EU intervention, such as Spain. All member states were encouraged to use the EU's €750bn (£636bn; $867bn) Covid-19 recovery fund to invest in clean energy to meet the bloc's climate targets. "We are not facing a surge because of our climate policy," Ms Simson said. "Fossil fuel prices are spiking. We need to speed up the green transition, not slow it down." link : https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-58896847

Google is increasing its investment in the Workspace Marketplace Google has revealed a new plan to help customers squeeze even more value from its productivity software and collaboration tools. At its annual Google Cloud Next event, the company announced it will invest heavily in the Google Workspace Marketplace, the third-party app library that services its product suite. The goal is to create opportunities for new synergies that expand the functionality of its apps and improve the user experience. New figures published by Google show the Workspace suite now has upwards of three billion users (which equates to more than a third of the planet). Many of these users are augmenting their setup with first- or third-party apps - of which there are now 5,300 in the official marketplace - but Google is pushing for further expansion. “We’re excited to see so many users personalize their experience by adding third-party apps or by building their own to create a more powerful engine for productivity and collaboration,” wrote Google. “Developers have been able to build applications that integrate with Gmail, Drive and Docs for years. And today, we’re announcing enhancements to the Google Workspace platform by making it just as easy for developers to build applications and integrate with Meet, Chat and Spaces.” Evolution of Google Workspace Since the birth of G Suite in 2006, Google has competed directly with Microsoft in the office software space, going up against the famous Microsoft 365 suite, which houses the likes of Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc. One of the defining features of Microsoft’s offering is tight integration between apps and services, extending all the way out to the Windows operating system on which most business devices run. And although Google stole the march on Microsoft when it came to SaaS, the individual G Suite apps felt more isolated. When Google rebranded its suite as Workspace last year, however, the company announced it would make a concerted effort to create a more “deeply integrated user experience”, by improving the level of interoperability of its various productivity apps. And now, the company wants to focus on facilitating new integrations with third-party apps as well. The first new integration unveiled at Cloud Next allows users to create and action Jira tickets directly from Google Chat and Spaces, streamlining the ticketing process and cutting the number of apps employees need to juggle at once. In a similar vein, Google has released a new AppSheet integration for Gmail, which is supposed to help non-technical users to create custom no-code apps that save time on administrative tasks. Finally, Google announced a new Work Safer offering that utilizes services from security companies CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks to help customers collaborate securely in a hybrid working environment. “Our mission is to empower everyone with an innovative and seamless experience that gives people - no matter their location or technical ability - the opportunity to drive real impact,” said Google. “At its core, the vision of the Google Workspace platform is to help you build your own innovation momentum, while providing a foundation of security and privacy. link : https://www.techradar.com/news/google-has-a-cunning-plan-to-dethrone-microsoft-365

After radically changing its approach to GPUs and hiring Raja Koduri in 2017, Intel has been rather aggressively hiring GPU engineers from various companies in general and from Raja Koduri's former company, AMD, in particular. Last month the company poached Vineet Goel, a graphics technology veteran from AMD. At Intel, Vineet Goel will serve as Vice President and General Manager of Xe GPU Architecture and IP Engineering at Intel and will be responsible for development of the company's Xe architectures. An Intel spokesperson confirmed to CRN that Goel will head a group of architects and engineers that will be 'architecting, designing and verifying Intel’s Xe IP road map.' Since the first two or three Xe architecture generations have already been defined (or at least named) Goel will have an impact on Intel's Xe GPUs that are years down the road. Vineet Goel is has had quite a career in the graphics industry. Most recently he served as Corporate Vice President of GPU Architecture at AMD and before that (from August 2016 to June 2019) was responsible for GPU architecture development at the company. Given the timeline, Vineet Goel played a key role in development of AMD's latest RDNA and RDNA 2 as well as CDNA and CDNA 2 architectures. Furthermore, he also contributed strongly to development of upcoming RDNA 3 and CDNA 3 architectures as well as their successors. Goel he started his career at Real3D in the late 1990s and continued it at ATI Technologies Orlando division after Real3D was sold to Intel in 1999. He worked at ATI and then at AMD till 2011, when he joined his former colleague Eric Demers at Qualcomm and worked on ultra-low-power Adreno GPUs for Snapdragon system-on-chips. He spent about five years at Qualcomm and then re-joined AMD in mid-2016. Over his career Goel was granted dozens of graphics related patents, but avid readers might remember him for his work on ATI's TruForm and other tessellation technologies (for Microsoft's Xbox 360, ATI's Terascale/Terascale 2 architectures) supported by the company's GPUs over the years. His more recent inventions include FidelityFX Super Resolution, multi-instance GPUs, and chiplet-based machine learning accelerators. Vineet Goel is a yet another ex-AMD graphics engineer or executive that Intel has hired in the recent years. The company has also hired multiple people from Nvidia. Among Intel's noteworthy hires in the recent years are Masooma Bhaiwala, Tom Petersen, Jon Carvill, Antal Tungler, Darren McPhee, Devon Nekechuk, Damien Triolet, and many others. Intel also recently boosted its game developers relations team with four highly-experienced executives. link : https://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-poaches-amd-veteran-vineet-goel
