  1. The Marvel movie Black Widow will be available for all Disney+ subscribers beginning October 6. The film was previously only available on the service as a Premier Access title for an additional charge.Marvel also released a new trailer to promote Black Widow's arrival on Disney+. It's a light-hearted promo that focuses on the banter between Natasha (Scarlett Johansson), Yelena (Florence Pugh), and Alexei (David Harbour), while also showcasing some of the movie's spectacular action. Check it out below: Black Widow arrived in theaters and on Premier Access back in July. The film had been delayed from its original May 2020 release date and was one of several movies this year that Disney has made available for streaming on the day they hit theaters. Although the movie had a very impressive opening weekend at the box office, it suffered a huge drop-off in its second week, which some theaters owners blamed on the decision to release it on Disney+.The movie's release onto regular Disney+ coincides with a settlement in the lawsuit between Johansson and Disney. The star sued the studio in late July, claiming that its decision to give Black Widow a simultaneous streaming release massively reduced her potential earnings from the film. Details of the settlement haven't been revealed, but it seems that Johansson is still on board to star in the studio's upcoming theme park attraction adaptation Tower of Terror. The next Marvel movie will be Eternals, which hits theaters on November 5. That will be followed by Spider-Man: No Way Home, which releases in December. In addition, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrives on Disney+ on November 12.

  3. WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court is gearing up for a blockbuster term beginning Monday that is likely to produce the most important ruling on abortion in 30 years and a long-awaited decision on the issue of carrying guns outside the home. The court will also take up a dispute over public funding for religious education, and it could plunge back into the controversy over considering a student's race in college admissions. "I think we're going to look back at this as the year in which the conservatives really did fully take over the Supreme Court and American constitutional law, where they got what they were really looking for on the big, hot-button issues that affect all of Americans' lives," said Tom Goldstein, a lawyer who argues frequently before the court and publishes the website SCOTUSBlog. The court announced in May that it would consider a challenge to a Mississippi law that would ban most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. Since then, Texas has passed an even stricter measure, banning abortions after about six weeks. The justices brushed off a request from opponents to put the Texas law on hold last month, but further challenges are certain to return before the court's term ends in June. The Mississippi case presents a direct challenge to the court's 1973 landmark Roe v. Wade ruling and a follow-on decision in Casey v. Planned Parenthood, which said states can impose some restrictions on abortion but cannot ban it before fetal viability, generally considered to be 23 to 24 weeks into a pregnancy. A federal judge blocked enforcement, saying the state chose "to pass a law it knew was unconstitutional to enforce a decades-long campaign" against Roe v. Wade. The 5th U.S. Court of Appeals affirmed the ruling, so the state appealed to the Supreme Court. Mississippi at first said upholding its law would not require overturning the court's abortion precedents. But in a later filing, the state took a more aggressive position, arguing that "the conclusion that abortion is a constitutional right has no basis in text, structure, history, or tradition." Paul Smith, a veteran Supreme Court litigator who teaches at Georgetown University's law school, said the court is unlikely to entirely accept or reject Mississippi's position but could, instead, seek a middle ground. "They could narrowly rule that it's not an undue burden" to ban abortions after 15 weeks "under the notion that you still have to give people the opportunity to access abortion services," he said. The justices took nearly a year to decide that they would take up the Mississippi challenge. "That doesn't suggest that they were grabbing on to the case to attack Roe and Casey," said Jeffrey Wall, who was acting solicitor general at the Justice Department during the Trump administration. Gun rights, church-state divide The justices will also take up a central issue of the gun rights debate, which they have consistently ducked since they ruled in 2008 that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep handguns at home for self-defense. The court will hear a challenge to a New York state law that allows residents to carry concealed handguns only if they can demonstrate special needs, beyond a general desire for self-protection. Opponents say the law makes it virtually impossible for ordinary law-abiding citizens to get the necessary license. Federal courts have split over the meaning of the Second Amendment's declaration of a right to keep "and bear" arms. A Supreme Court ruling could clarify how much states can restrict gun ownership without violating the Constitution. Federal courts have split over the meaning of the Second Amendment's declaration of a right to keep "and bear" arms. A Supreme Court ruling could clarify how much states can restrict gun ownership without violating the Constitution. A case from Maine invites the justices to dive back into the issue of public support for religious schools. Many states ban using public money to subsidize churches or religious education. But the Supreme Court ruled last year that when states set up systems to provide money to parents to pay school tuition, they cannot leave religious schools out of the programs. The decision, in a case from Montana, said states cannot discriminate against schools simply because of their religious status, meaning they are operated by religious organizations. This year's case invites the court to consider the next question: Can states exclude schools from tuition programs that explicitly offer religious education? Race in college admissions Before the term is over, the justices might also take up the controversial issue of considering race in college admissions. The court has upheld the practice in the past, ruling that schools can consider a student's race as one factor in the process. But with its more conservative makeup, the current court may not agree. A longtime opponent of affirmative action has urged the court to hear an appeal in a lawsuit accusing Harvard University of discriminating against Asian American applicants. Lower courts ruled that the school's limited consideration of race was a legitimate effort to achieve a more diverse student body. Harvard's challengers, Students for Fair Admissions, urge the justices to overrule their 2003 decision on affirmative action, which upheld the University of Michigan's use of race as a plus factor for applicants and was a model for similar admissions programs nationwide. The term seems likely to produce a string of conservative victories on abortion, guns and religion. "The conditions for the right to run the table have never looked better," said Irv Gornstein, executive director of Georgetown Law School's Supreme Court Institute. "If within the span of two to three terms we see sweeping right-side decisions on every one of the most politically divisive issues of our times, the perception of the court may be permanently altered," he said. "Not since Bush v. Gore has the public perception of the court's legitimacy seemed so seriously threatened." Carrie Severino, a conservative legal activist and former law clerk for Justice Clarence Thomas, said there is no principled middle ground for the court to land on in some of the most controversial cases, including the dispute over abortion. "Many of the justices are fed up with the way Roe v. Wade has contributed to the politicization of the court and may want to allow the states to deal with it," Severino said. "You'd see more closely where the American people are on this issue." The end of the term will again produce speculation about whether Justice Stephen Breyer, who will turn 84 in August, intends to retire. He was under pressure in June to step down while Democrats controlled by the White House and the Senate. But Breyer, who was nominated to the court by President Bill Clinton, suggested that such partisan considerations would be inappropriate for justices, who should act based on their judicial philosophies, not politics. link : https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/supreme-court/abortion-guns-top-agenda-new-supreme-court-term-n1280550
  4. The latest high-resolution pictures of the Intel Core i9-12900K Alder Lake flagship CPU have been leaked by Yuuki_AnS. The leaker has obtained the latest engineering sample of the chip that was being sold over in the Chinese black market for a starting price of $700 US. Intel's Core i9-12900K Alder Lake Flagship CPU Gets High-Res Photos, New Hardware Guided Scheduling Onboard The pictures give us a bit better glimpse of the Intel Core i9-12900K CPU which is the flagship within the Alder Lake 12th Gen Core lineup and also its 1700 contact pads which will make it compatible with LGA 1700 motherboards. The specific CPU sample is the 'QX7H' variant & falls within the 'ES2' spec. The side profile pictures show that the PCB on the chip is quite thick and will feature a more rectangular design compared to the square Intel chips we have seen over a decade now. Aside from the pictures, we managed to get hold of a new slide for the Intel Alder Lake CPUs where the company outlined its brand new HGS+ (Hardware Guided Scheduling+) feature. Intel states that its new core architecture with HGS+ prioritizes and manages the distribution of workloads sending tasks to the best thread for the job, thereby optimizing performance per watt. This feature will be enabled by default (on select SKUs) and no user action is required to activate this technology. The HGS+ feature is a combination of hardware support in the processor and software optimizations in the latest Windows (11) operating system. Intel Alder Lake CPUs with HGS+ will work to optimize the performance of hybrid CPUs like Intel's 12th Gen processor on Windows 11. You can learn about Intel's new HGS technology in detail in this article published by UnderFox over at Coreteks. It is likely that the new HGS+ scheduler only works on Intel Alder Lake 12th Gen CPUs with hybrid core technology. We know certain SKUs will only feature Golden Cove cores so there won't be that much of a use for HGS+ on those chips. Intel Core i9-12900K Spotted Running on Z690 AORUS Tachyon Motherboard & DDR5-8000 Memory Intel Core i9-12900K 16 Core / 24 Thread Desktop CPU The Intel Core i9-12900K will be the flagship chip in the 12th Gen Alder Lake Desktop CPU lineup. It will feature 8 Golden Cove cores and 8 Gracemont cores for a total of 16 cores (8+8) and 24 threads (16+8). The P-cores (Golden Cove) will operate at a maximum boost frequency of up to 5.3 GHz with 1-2 active cores and 5.0 GHz with all-cores active while the E-cores (Gracemont) will operate at 3.90 GHz across 1-4 cores and up to 3.7 GHz when all cores are loaded. The CPU will feature 30 MB of L3 cache and TDP values are maintained at 125W (PL1) and 228W (PL2). The 'K' variant is expected to retail at $599 US while the Non-K variant will retail at $509 US. Intel's Alder Lake Desktop CPUs will feature both DDR5 and DDR4 memory controllers and 600-series motherboards will also come with DDR5/DDR4 specific options. High-end motherboards will retain DDR5 while the more mainstream offerings will open up DDR4 support too. The Intel Alder Lake CPU lineup is expected to launch in November along with the respective Z690 platform and DDR5 memory kits. link ; https://wccftech.com/intel-core-i9-12900k-alder-lake-cpu-gets-pictured-in-high-res-top-skus-to-feature-new-hardware-guided-scheduling/
  5. There will be no live audience at this year's championships. This year's The International 2021, the Dota 2 world championships, will be held without an audience. Dota 2 developer Valve has refunded all tickets to the October 7th event event effective yesterday, October 2nd. The event was to take place in Bucharest, Romania. "We have been carefully evaluating the continued rise of Covid rates in Romania, as well as the resulting introduction of new local restrictions in Bucharest," reads Valve's statement. "We wanted nothing more than to welcome fans live to the event, but we can no longer do so in a way that allows us to prioritize the health and well-being of both audience members and participants. Those who purchased tickets will be issued a full refund automatically," it continues. The announcement came just a few days after multiple members of tournament participants Team Aster tested positive for Covid-19. Fan reactions on social media are something between pained at the event cancellation and relieved at the reduced risk to their favorite esports athletes. In a moment of truly cosmic irony, the largest prize pool tournament for Valve's other game, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, will move forward at the PGL MAJOR on November 4-7... in the same Stockholm arena the Dota 2 International was supposed to be held in. link; https://www.pcgamer.com/valve-cancels-refunds-tickets-for-dota-2-international-just-days-before-event/
  6. It's official, the tuning has reached its maximum limit! We thought we had seen everything but now motorists start to make the back of their vehicle dance ... So there is the pompom! A video has just appeared on Twitter and as much to say that it will turn the heads of many car fans. Its content ? It's simple this is the maximum level ever reached in tuning. The owner of this car separated the front from the rear to turn the trunk into an attraction. For those who have been to Futuroscope before, what you will see looks a lot like the famous “Dance with the Robots” attraction . Except that here, it is not an articulated arm that shakes you in all directions but a car in the middle of the highway. To be completely honest, it is as impressive as it is disturbing, but know that you are not at the end of your surprises. Not a first This technique is quite widespread in the world of tuning. This technology called “hydraulic trailer” is mainly practiced when stationary, in a specialized meeting for example. For the one we just saw on the highway, it is probably prohibited by law because it is too dangerous. So here's a quieter but still impressive little compilation. link ; https://www.auto-moto.com/insolite/delire/remorques-hydrauliques-faire-danser-voiture-lautoroute-289739.html
  7. In the coastal city of Geraldton, Beachlands Village’s villa 14A is a fresh and well-equipped property designed for a serene and convenient retirement lifestyle. Modern and fully furnished, the double-brick and tile home is the last of the established abodes currently available at the development. Acacia Living Group Beachlands Village Manager Jeanine Cole said the village offered a relaxed holiday atmosphere, while the villa itself was easy-care. “The villa is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac with a beautiful, established and low-maintenance garden in a north-facing back courtyard,” she said. In addition to the rear patio, there is a large area at the front of the home – the choice of where you want to spend your time outdoors is entirely up to you. Newly renovated, the modern kitchen boasts sleek splashback tiling with streamlined features and appliances, including a ceramic electric stovetop and a Westinghouse wall oven. Ample storage options under-bench and overhead make keeping a clean space easy, with a large pantry adding to the list of inclusions. Visiting friends or grandchildren can make use of the minor bedroom, while the main sleeping quarters offer double robes and abundant room to move. A renovated bathroom is another drawcard, while the separate laundry and convenient linen cupboard will allow you to keep the washing and ironing tasks well out of sight of visitors. Should you want to head out on wheels, the home offers a single lock-up garage, though the village grounds themselves boast plenty in the way of appealing lifestyle options. Ms Cole said the village was home to an near-new community centre, with activities hosted on Tuesdays and Thursdays. “This includes ukulele performances, crafts, bingo, charades and carpet bowls, with there also being special events such as Valentine’s Day, St Patrick’s Day, the Melbourne Cup, Halloween and Christmas,” she said. “Plus, we have regular outings on wildflower tours and to see theatre performances.” With the village offering so many opportunities, Ms Cole said many residents wished they made the move to the village sooner. “Many didn’t anticipate they would have such a good lifestyle, make new friends and participate in activities as much or as little as they like,” she said. For peace of mind, there is respite care available, onsite maintenance and gardening services when needed. “Staff are onsite 24/7 and are proud to provide high-quality retirement village living,” Ms Cole said. “With the fast-moving property market not seeming to slow down anytime soon, we suggest you call us quickly to join this unique retirement community.” Those with pets can take advantage of the village’s pet-friendly policy. link ; https://thewest.com.au/lifestyle/real-estate/easy-breezy-lifestyle-a-plus-for-regional-buyers-c-4121406
  8. Tk'emlúps Nation had twice invited Trudeau to mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with them The Peace Tower glows orange as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau participates in a ceremony on Parliament Hill on the eve of the first National Day of Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 29. (Adrian Wyld/The Canadian Press) Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the chief of Tk'emlúps Nation yesterday and offered an apology for not following up on invitations to visit her community, the nation confirmed Sunday. Kukpi7 (Chief) Rosanne Casimir said this week the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc Nation had twice written to Trudeau to invite him to join them to mark Canada's first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Thursday. "I did hold out hope that he would be here," she said Thursday. Trudeau was criticized late last week for flying to Tofino, B.C., on Canada's first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and spending part of it vacationing with family. Trudeau had attended a ceremony in Ottawa Wednesday night, but the Prime Minister's Office confirmed Thursday he was spending several days in Tofino with family. He spoke with eight residential school survivors Thursday as well, the PMO said. But the prime minister's decision to fly to Tofino showed "his words don't match his actions," according to Evelyn Korkmaz, a residential school survivor. That sentiment echoed sharp criticism from other quarters, including Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs Grand Chief Stewart Phillip who said Trudeau had "turned his back on Indigenous children." Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc Nation is near the site of the former Kamloops residential school where about 200 unmarked potential burial sites were detected by a radar survey this spring. The nation held an event Thursday that was attended by, among others, Assembly of First Nations National Chief RoseAnne Archibald and B.C. Solicitor General Mike Fanworth. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was created through a law proposed and passed by the Liberal government this June. Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc Kukpi7 (Chief) Rosanne Casimir speaks at a presentation as the First Nation releases a report outlining the findings of a search of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School property using ground-penetrating radar, in Kamloops, B.C., on July 15. (Darryl Dyck/The Canadian Press) A senior government source, who CBC News is not identifying because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said Trudeau and Casimir also discussed next steps and that the prime minister was looking forward to visiting the community soon. In an interview on Rosemary Barton Live Sunday, Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc did not say whether Trudeau had made a mistake by travelling Thursday but that "commitment to reconciliation is profound and shared by all members of our government." He reiterated that Trudeau had attended the Wednesday ceremony and had spoken with survivors Thursday. "His personal commitment to reconciliation is significant," LeBlanc said. link ; https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-apology-tk-emlúps-1.6198140

  12. Soon, we'll no longer see voice rooms plucked from around Discord's giant chat network. Discord's newish Stage Channels are a nice addition to the chat software. Normal Discord voice channels are usually free-for-alls in which anyone can speak, whereas in Stage Channels, mods can more easily designate speakers and call on audience members for panels and Q&As. They're similar to Twitter Spaces—Silicon Valley types love moderated voice rooms right now—and they're sticking around and getting new features, such as event scheduling. A related Discord feature that is not sticking around, however, is Stage Discovery, which publicly showcases active Stage Channels from around Discord's enormous network.Discord only kind of explains why Stage Discovery is being axed on October 4."In listening to our communities and admins directly, we've learned that we still have work to do in regards to server onboarding and moderation," the company said in a blog post today. "...We're going to take some time to rethink the Discovery aspect of Stages and how we can better build a place that best connects people to the communities most relevant to them."The "relevant to them" bit there is the key. To make it much clearer why Stage Discovery is going away, all you have to do is look at it. Here are some of the Stage Channels it's currently showing me:DEBATE: God does not existIs there more than two genders?Memepalooza2SPEED DATING (anyone can participate) (PG-13)Confess Your Secrets 😳BANGINGI think that makes it pretty obvious why Discord has reconsidered surfacing what goes on in other people's servers."Thank God, was a useless addition," said Reddit user ElP4drino in response to the news that Stage Discovery is being dropped. "Just filled with every talent show known to man, and a bunch of questionable debate topics."That's been my experience, too. When I talked to Discord about privacy in 2019, it said that, for the most part, it doesn't proactively monitor what people are doing in servers. If you and your friends like to have vulgar discussions that would go too far for others, Discord agents aren't going to burst through the door with mod badges unless someone in your server invites them by filing a report, and even then nothing may happen. The company isn't wiretapping millions of voice channels to make sure everyone's being chill. So, if you take whatever a bunch of teenagers and young adults happen to be talking about in the wilds of 1,000 to 30,000-person servers and show it to a Rocket League player in his mid-30s who uses Discord to talk to friends about how the weather is where they live, you're unlikely to find a good match. And at worst, Stage Discovery may hurt, disgust, or anger people with the discussions it surfaces. It isn't surprising that Discord is shelving the idea.Still, curious about what I'd been missing by not using this soon-to-be dead Discord feature, I entered Memepalooza2, which seemed like the Stage Channel in which I was least likely to overhear something I'd regret overhearing. The discussion was a bit hard to follow, but it was clearly about getting rich with NFTs. I should've known that's what it would be.Putting aside the cryptolords and the obvious technological improvements, Discord continues to remind me of my teenage experiences in unmoderated Yahoo! chat rooms in the late '90s and early aughts. The only other big difference between then and now is that people don't use "^_^" as much anymore. In today's Discord blog post, you can read a little more about the decision to get rid of Stage Discovery. The company also briefly mentions some new Discord features on the way, including "more screening functionality so you can get the right members into your community easily and securely." link : https://www.pcgamer.com/discord-stage-discovery-removed/

From 2001 to 2008, from € 1,000Restyled in 2005, this 307 was undoubtedly one of the best compacts of its generation , in particular thanks to the rigor of its behavior - assisted by an ESC anti-slip in series from August 2001 - and its "house" damping, which contribute to his driving pleasure. This SW station wagon version is distinguished by its huge glass roof - a first at the time - which reinforces the feeling of space on board . Sliding and removable, its three second row seats give it great modularity; they are completed by two third row "folding seats", taking place in the trunk, which then sees its volume (from 500 to 1,805 liters) greatly reduced. The finish is of course dated today and the rear legroom is nothing exceptional, which seems logical in view of its very compact size (4.42 m) . 15. The federal government has no supply of Johnson & Johnson's single-shot Janssen COVID-19 vaccine to share with the provinces, Health Minister Patty Hajdu said today.Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia have requested tens of thousands of doses of the vaccine as a way of increasing vaccine uptake. Health Canada has approved the viral vector vaccine but says it is not as effective as its mRNA vaccine equivalents from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna. In a news release earlier this week, Premier Jason Kenney said some Albertans in areas of low vaccine uptake have expressed a preference for the Janssen vaccine. The Alberta government has requested 20,000 doses from the federal government.Hajdu told a news conference today the federal government would be happy to fulfil the request but doesn't have the doses to provide."Currently we don't have usable doses on hand, and so we're looking for additional doses so that we can get them very quickly to the provinces and territories," she said. In a statement to CBC News, federal Procurement Minister Anita Anand's office confirmed that Ottawa has no supply of the single-shot vaccine."We do not have Janssen vaccine doses in Canada and we are working to support the people of Alberta," the statement reads. Some 300,000 doses of the Janssen vaccine were shipped to Canada in late April. Health Canada rejected them after a weeks-long investigation because of ongoing concerns about the third-party manufacturer of these shots, a Maryland-based company called Emergent.Workers at the company's Baltimore plant inadvertently ruined some 15 million doses of this vaccine by mixing up ingredients intended for another product — the shot made by AstraZeneca. Dr. Supriya Sharma, the chief medical adviser at Health Canada, said concerns about manufacturing quality could affect new shipments to Canada."There are some sites that still have some issues around quality and quality manufacturing," she said. "We wanted to make sure the level of safety and effectiveness of the vaccine meets what was authorized."While the vaccine has not been administered yet in Canada, just over 15 million Americans have received a dose, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In the summer, the government — citing in part a lack of demand from the provinces — said it had no plans for additional shipments of the vaccine.Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada's chief public health officer, stressed that mRNA vaccines are safe. She added that there is some evidence from other countries that two doses of the Janssen vaccine are more effective than one, even though it is approved in Canada as a single-dose vaccine."I think for individuals who are thinking about this as a one-dose vaccine, more information is likely to be forthcoming in the near future on that," she said.B.C. expands mask mandate in schools to include kindergarten to Grade 3 after community outcryMother of hospitalized 5-year-old says her decision not to get vaccinated was 'big mistake'In August, the federal government announced its intention to donate up to 10 million doses of the Janssen vaccine to poorer countries.Tam said that's why the federal government would like to have more clarity from provinces on the number of Janssen doses they think they'll need."One thing we need from the provinces is a good estimation of the amount that is required," she said. "We do not want to waste any vaccines that could help other countries in the world ... and we're waiting for provinces to get back to us on that front."Pill treatment awaiting approvalMerck & Co announced Friday that its COVID-19 pill, called molnupiravir, has shown great effectiveness in reducing hospitalizations and deaths in COVID-19 patients. Patients who took the drug within five days of showing COVID-19 symptoms faced roughly half the risk of ending up in hospital or dying as did members of a control group. The company said it will soon ask health officials to authorize its use. Health Canada has been reviewing data on the drug since August. If approved, it would be the first authorized COVID-19 therapy which does not involve needles or IVs.WATCH | Public Health Agency of Canada reviewing proposal to use new antiviral drug against COVID-19 Sharma said that approval of the drug is likely months away."It will be held to the standards of all of our reviews," she said. "We'll authorize it if it meets the standard."Rates of severe illness increasing, health officials sayCanada has averaged 4,350 new cases of COVID-19 per day over the last week, Tam said. There's high regional variability in COVID-19 caseloads across the country, she said, but the overall number is on a stable trajectory. What isn't, she added, is rates of severe illness — they've shot up as the more infectious and deadly delta variant continues to spread. An average of more than 2,400 COVID-19 patients are being treated in hospital daily, including around 800 patients in intensive care.Merck says experimental drug molnupiravir cuts worst effects of COVID-19Cybercriminals are offering to sell fake Canadian COVID-19 vaccination certificates onlineNewly announced vaccine mandates in some provinces, such as Alberta, have boosted rates of vaccination, Tam said."These vaccine requirements in provinces seem to have nudged people to take the vaccine," Tam said. She added that the overwhelming majority of severe illness cases continue to be among the unvaccinated. link : https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/health-officials-update-oct-1-1.6196191

  17. Logic supposes that as the pandemic put so many people on lockdown, certain market segments surged, including PC and console gaming. And that is undoubtedly true. However, analysts at IDC say "the gaming market was on fire for years" before the pandemic began, and as it applies to the PC platform, they anticipate the surge in gaming desktop, laptop, and even monitor sales to continue through at least the next several years. As things stand right now, global shipments of PCs and monitors purpose built for gaming are growing faster than their respective markets as a whole. Including both desktops and laptops, IDC expects gaming PC shipments to grow from 41.3 million in 2020 to 52.3 million in 2025, which would represent an annual compound growth rate (CAGR) of 4.8%. Meanwhile, analysts at IDC anticipate gaming monitors going from 14.2 million units shipped to 26.4 million units in the same chunk of years, for an even bigger CAGR of 13.2%. Perhaps this is the kind of outlook that lead Corsair to announce its first-ever gaming monitor, the Xeneon, a 32-inch quantum dot display with a 2560x1440 resolution and 165Hz refresh rate. And in line with IDC's pre-pandemic observation, we saw NZXT get into the business of selling custom gaming PCs in 2017 with its BLD platform. New boutiques continue to pop up as well, like Meta PC, which came into existence last year. Part of what's interesting about this is that it is happening amid a global shortage of silicon. This has contributed to what we called the tragic state of PC building in 2021, amid the nearly always out-of-stock status of gaming hardware like graphics cards (and dedicated consoles), and at times, some high end CPUs and even power power supplies. "At this point the global supply shortage is well known and continues to be a moving target, yet demand for gaming hardware (PCs, consoles, monitors, etc.) and titles continues to surge," said Ryan Reith, an analyst at IDC. "Many have speculated that as reopening slowly begins around the world this growth could be in jeopardy, but we are just not seeing that." In terms of dollar values, gaming PCs and monitors combined into a $43 billion market in 2020, and is expected to jump to $60 billion in 2025, for a CAGR of 7%. IDC also expects the average selling price of a gaming PC to go up a bit, from $925 to $1,007, which isn't too bad when you're talking about a four-year span. Monitors, however, will remain about the same, or even become a tad cheaper, with the ASP predicted to drop from $339 last year to $309 in 2025. We'll see—IDC may not be taking into account technologies like OLED and mini LED trickling into the PC monitor space, and maybe even micro LED by then, which are even smaller and could rival OLED in picture quality without the potential downside of burn-in. Regardless, this boils down to yet more affirmation that PC gaming is alive and thriving, and will remain that way for the foreseeable future. link : https://www.pcgamer.com/pandemic-or-not-idc-says-gaming-pc-and-monitor-sales-will-remain-strong-for-years-to-come/

Top video conferencing firm Zoom won’t be buying Five9 after the two companies have confirmed the acquisition deal they’d been planning since July has fallen through after Five9’s shareholders decided to reject the deal. Zoom had offered Five9 a $14.7 billion all-stock deal, which the latter had employed proxy advisory company Institutional Shareholder Services, to analyze - and roughly two weeks ago, the company advised Five9 to turn the deal down. The value of the deal was apparently the main issue, with Five9 shareholders reportedly only seeing a 13% increase in the value of their shares, reportedly too low for them to accept. 19. Intel announced today the company's second-generation neuromorphic research chip, the Loihi 2, as well as their open-source software framework for developing neuro-inspired applications, Lava API. Intel is continuing to focus on advancing neuromorphic technology for the future. “Loihi 2 and Lava harvest insights from several years of collaborative research using Loihi. Our second-generation chip greatly improves the speed, programmability, and capacity of neuromorphic processing, broadening its usages in power and latency constrained intelligent computing applications. We are open sourcing Lava to address the need for software convergence, benchmarking, and cross-platform collaboration in the field, and to accelerate our progress toward commercial viability.” Intel's newest Loihi 2 neuromorphic chip allows the company to "draw insights from neuroscience to create chips that function more like the biological brain." The effort will help to drastically improve energy efficiency on a much higher level, as well as accelerating computative learning efficiently across several edge applications, such as "vision, voice and gesture recognition to search retrieval, robotics, and constrained optimization problems." These can be found in technologies such as neuromorphic skin, robotic arms, and olfactory sensing. Loihi 2 utilizes several years of experience of use with the first-generation release of its predecessor, thus allowing Intel's process technologies and asynchronous design structure to advance further into the future. Advances in Loihi 2 allow the architecture to support new classes of neuro-inspired algorithms and applications, while providing up to 10 times faster processing, up to 15 times greater resource density with up to 1 million neurons per chip, and improved energy efficiency. Benefitting from a close collaboration with Intel’s Technology Development Group, Loihi 2 has been fabricated with a pre-production version of the Intel 4 process, which underscores the health and progress of Intel 4. The use of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography in Intel 4 has simplified the layout design rules compared to past process technologies. This has made it possible to rapidly develop Loihi 2. The Lava software framework addresses the need for a common software framework in the neuromorphic research community. As an open, modular, and extensible framework, Lava will allow researchers and application developers to build on each other’s progress and converge on a common set of tools, methods, and libraries. Lava runs seamlessly on heterogeneous architectures across conventional and neuromorphic processors, enabling cross-platform execution and interoperability with a variety of artificial intelligence, neuromorphic and robotics frameworks. Developers can begin building neuromorphic applications without access to specialized neuromorphic hardware and can contribute to the Lava code base, including porting it to run on other platforms. Dr. Gerd J. Kunde, a staff scientist at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, states, "Investigators at Los Alamos National Laboratory have been using the Loihi neuromorphic platform to investigate the trade-offs between quantum and neuromorphic computing, as well as implementing learning processes on-chip. This research has shown some exciting equivalences between spiking neural networks and quantum annealing approaches for solving hard optimization problems. We have also demonstrated that the backpropagation algorithm, a foundational building block for training neural networks and previously believed not to be implementable on neuromorphic architectures, can be realized efficiently on Loihi. Our team is excited to continue this research with the second generation Loihi 2 chip." Presently, Intel offers two separate Loihi 2 based neuromorphic systems through their Neuromorphic Research cloud at the Intel Neuromorphic Research Community (INRC). The first is Oheo Gulch, "a single-chip system for early evaluation." The second is Kapoho Point, "an eight-chip system that will be available soon." The Lava API is currently available for free download on GitHub. Presentation and tutorials on Loihi 2 and the Lava API will be showcased at Intel's Innovation event this October. Loihi 2 and Lava API will provide researchers the tools to create and characterize new applications in neurotechnology for problem-solving, learning, adapting solutions, as well as processing formulas in real-time. Faster and more general optimization: Loihi 2’s greater programmability will allow a wider class of difficult optimization problems to be supported, including real-time optimization, planning, and decision-making from edge to datacenter systems. New approaches for continual and associative learning: Loihi 2 improves support for advanced learning methods, including variations of backpropagation, the workhorse algorithm of deep learning. This expands the scope of adaptation and data efficient learning algorithms that can be supported by low-power form factors operating in online settings. Novel neural networks trainable by deep learning: Fully programmable neuron models and generalized spike messaging in Loihi 2 open the door to a wide range of new neural network models that can be trained in deep learning. Early evaluations suggest reductions of over 60 times fewer ops per inference on Loihi 2 compared to standard deep networks running on the original Loihi without loss in accuracy. Loihi 2 addresses a practical limitation of Loihi by incorporating faster, more flexible, and more standard input/output interfaces. Loihi 2 chips will support Ethernet interfaces, glueless integration with a wider range of event-based vision sensors, and larger meshed networks of Loihi 2 chips. 22. The parents of a teenager who died after an allergic reaction to a Pret a Manger baguette have welcomed the introduction of a new food safety law. The rules - known as "Natasha's Law" - require full ingredient and allergen labelling on all food made on premises and pre-packed for direct sale. The change follows the death of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse from anaphylaxis after she ate sesame in a baguette. Her parents said she would be "very proud" of the new regulations. Natasha's mother, Tanya Ednan-Laperouse, told BBC Breakfast that she and husband Nadhim had been waiting for this day for years. "Today we really feel like we've achieved it and it feels really special," she said. Mr Ednan-Laperouse said they had set up a parliamentary petition online calling for an allergy tsar as a "matter of life and death". "This is not what a great British nation should accept, that young people can die in this day and age because of the food they eat, when all it takes is more joined-up thinking to better protect them," he told BBC Breakfast. The couple set up the Natasha Allergy Research Foundation and campaigned for the change in law after a food labelling loophole left Natasha unaware that the baguette she ate contained sesame seeds. The coroner at the 2018 inquest into her death concluded that Pret a Manger's allergy labelling was inadequate. Can lessons be learned from Pret baguette death? Bereaved parents call for 'allergy tsar' Natasha, from Fulham, west London, ate an artichoke, olive and tapenade baguette bought from a Pret shop at about 07:00 BST in Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport on 17 July 2016, West London Coroner's Court heard. She began to feel ill during a British Airways flight, and suffered a cardiac arrest. Despite her father administering two EpiPen injections, she died later the same day. Media caption,Natasha's parents Tanya and Nadim Ednan-Laperouse: "We've been waiting for this day for three years" The inquest heard the baguette contained sesame - which Natasha was allergic to - baked into the dough, but the ingredient was not listed on the packaging. Pret did not label "artisan" baguettes as containing sesame seeds despite six allergic reaction cases in the year before Natasha died, the inquest heard. The regulations Natasha's law, all food retailers will be required to display full ingredient and allergen labelling on every food item made on the premises and pre-packed for direct sale - including sandwiches, cakes and salads. Previously, non pre-packaged fresh food made on the premises did not need to be individually labelled with allergen or ingredient information. 2px presentational grey line Analysis By Colletta Smith, consumer affairs correspondent Over the last 18 months cafes and restaurants have had to deal with a raft of new legislation because of the pandemic, faced huge losses during periods of closure, and had to make significant changes to the way they operate to cope with changing customer habits. But food labelling is a hugely important issue for a growing number of consumers who suffer from allergies. They've been asking for clearer labelling for years, and understandably they don't want to wait any longer. The regulator is trying to be flexible with an industry already under strain, so we're unlikely to see fines straight away. But the Food Standards Agency will expect cafes and restaurants to at least be attempting to sort out their labelling and comply with the law before the end of the year. 2px presentational grey line Allergy law 'vital' Mr Ednan-Laperouse said Natasha's Law would be vital in helping to protect the two to three million people in the UK living with food allergies from life-threatening allergic reactions. He said: "It is about saving lives and marks a major milestone in our campaign to support people in this country with food allergies. "This change in the law brings greater transparency about the foods people are buying and eating; it will give people with food allergies confidence when they are buying pre-packaged food for direct sale such as sandwiches and salads. Everyone should be able to consume food safely." Mrs Ednan-Laperouse said: "Natasha was always extremely careful to check the food labels and until that terrible day in 2016 hadn't had a severe allergic reaction for over nine years. "Nothing can bring Natasha back, and we have to live with that reality every day, but we know in our hearts that Natasha would be very proud that a new law in her name will help to protect others."Food Standards Agency chief executive Emily Miles said: "If these changes drive down the number of hospital admissions caused by food allergies, which have seen a threefold increase over the last 20 years, and prevent further tragic deaths such as Natasha's, that can only be a positive thing." A Pret a Manger spokesman said it has fully rolled out ingredient labelling, and this process began in 2019. link : https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-58756597

While the best speech to text software used to be specifically only for desktops, the development of mobile devices and the explosion of easily accessible apps means that transcription can now also be carried out on a smartphone or tablet. This has made the best voice to text applications increasingly valuable to users in a range of different environments, from education to business. This is not least because the technology has matured to the level where mistakes in transcriptions are relatively rare, with some services rightly boasting a 99.9% success rate from clear audio. Even still, this applies mainly to ordinary situations and circumstances, and precludes the use of technical terminology such as required in legal or medical professions. Despite this, digital transcription can still service needs such as basic note-taking which can still be easily done using a phone app, simplifying the dictation process. However, different speech-to-text programs have different levels of ability and complexity, with some using advanced machine learning to constantly correct errors flagged up by users so that they are not repeated. So essentially you get the same excellent speech recognition as seen on the desktop software – the only meaningful difference we noticed was a very slight delay in our spoken words appearing on the screen (doubtless due to processing in the cloud). However, note that the app was still responsive enough overall. It also boasts support for boilerplate chunks of text which can be set up and inserted into a document with a simple command, and these, along with custom vocabularies, are synced across the mobile app and desktop Dragon software. Furthermore, you can share documents across devices via Evernote or cloud services (such as Dropbox). This isn’t as flexible as the desktop application, however, as dictation is limited to within Dragon Anywhere – you can’t dictate directly in another app (although you can copy over text from the Dragon Anywhere dictation pad to a third-party app). The other caveats are the need for an internet connection for the app to work (due to its cloud-powered nature), and the fact that it’s a subscription offering with no one-off purchase option, which might not be to everyone’s tastes. Even bearing in mind these limitations, though, it’s a definite boon to have fully-fledged, powerful voice recognition of the same sterling quality as the desktop software, nestling on your phone or tablet for when you’re away from the office. Although Verbit does offer a live version for transcription and captioning, aiming for a high degree of accuracy, other plans offer human editors to ensure transcriptions are fully accurate, and advertise a four hour turnaround time. 25. The first thing I did in Amazon's New World was see if I could make fun of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos with my username, because of course that's what I did, but Amazon was one step ahead of me. New World doesn't allow the use of "Bezos" or "Amazon" in your player name. I had my heart set exploring the world as "Jeff Bezos' Wallet." Now what am I supposed to do? After confirming that variants of Bezos like "JeffB," "Bez0s," and "Be Zos" were also locked out, I tried just going by "Amazon." That word's not allowed either. These names are clearly not locked because other players have already claimed them. When a name is already taken, it says, "This name is in use." Names which include the words Amazon and Bezos, however, "cannot be used," which is also what New World says when you type in swear words. PC Gamer's Chris Livingston had the bright idea to try "Beff Jezos," and to our surprise, it wasn't locked! It was, however, already taken by somebody with quicker wit than ours. So why has New World deemed the name of Amazon's founder on the level of swear words? We'll see if Amazon gets back to us with a statement, but the obvious answer is that hundreds of players dunking on Jeff Bezos, the very dunkable richest person on the planet, in Amazon's own game would make Amazon look slightly ridiculous. Same goes for the word Amazon itself (my backup name of "Unionize Amazon" is a no-go, unfortunately). link : https://www.pcgamer.com/you-cant-put-bezos-or-amazon-in-your-new-world-character-name/
