Nine years after the appearance of the A1, the second generation of this hatchback arrives with a clear evolution in design, equipment, performance, safety and comfort.
Before talking about the novelties of the Audi A1 2020, it is that, in less than a decade of existence, this model quickly positioned itself as one of the most po[CENSORED]r of the German brand. In just nine years of existence, it managed to add more than 830,000 units sold worldwide, of which more than 2.5 percent (20,000 units) were in Mexico.
As usually happens with most Audi models after an average of eight years in the market, the A1 came the time to completely renew to catch up on the fierce competition of small-sized luxury hatchbacks, where Compete directly against MINI Cooper. And, although it might seem that it could compete against Mercedes-Benz Class A and BMW 1 Series, the dimensions of only four meters in length and an initial price of around 400,000 pesos, do not make it a direct rival of these two models .
He grew and improved
Built under the MQB A0 platform, which occupies the SEAT Ibiza, Arona and Volkswagen Polo, the second generation of the Audi A1 offers a series of novelties in the dimensions of the body, at the beginning the length is 5.6 centimeters longer, while The wheelbase was 10 centimeters. Through these two variations, a large interior amplitude was achieved despite having a body of 4.03 meters.
Undoubtedly the most grateful of this rearrangement is the second row of seats that obtains 4.3 centimeters more space for the legs of the passengers, while allowing the backrest to obtain 7º more inclination to raise comfort. Who also benefits from having a body and a longer wheelbase is the trunk that by adding 65 liters now has a capacity of 335 liters, in practical terms this translates into two small suitcases and two backpacks.
New image
Thanks to these changes in dimensions, the body of the new Audi A1 2020 improves substantially in terms of design. Unlike its predecessor it is more than evident that the image is much more aggressive and sporty. Truly what could have happened to this hatchback was that its new look was inspired by the Audi Sport quattro, one of the rally icons of the 1980s.
Whether seen from the front, with those three air intakes between the grill and the chest, or from the side, with that roof drop and the position of the pillars, this Audi A1 has a totally interesting aspect especially with the background with the previous generation.
On top of this drastic evolution in design, the new A1 now enjoys a wide possibility of customization through 11 shades of paint, as well as packages that include decorations on the fascia, ceiling, side mirrors, skirts and wheels.
True to the custom of Audi, the sporty appearance of the A1 rises in category through the S line version that includes an aerodynamic kit, larger air intakes and a series of decorative and functional elements such as the double exhaust outlet, for example .
Let's go inside again
In addition to enjoying greater breadth, the cabin of the new A1 is more modern in terms of design and technology. Highlights the 10-inch screen that displays the instrument cluster, a second eight-inch in charge of multimedia system and dashboard architecture, which combines an avant-garde style with aluminum decorations.
Like the exterior, the interior offers a sporting spirit through the possibility of combining colors and materials in the upholstery and decorative elements of the dashboard, center console and door panels.
From the technological point of view, it is not only the two screens that make the Audi A1 2020 stand out, but there is also the LED ambient lighting with 30 colors to choose from, Apple CarPlay, two USB interfaces, as an option a multimedia screen of 10 inches with navigation with traffic updates, voice controls and a Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System audio system with 11 speakers and 560 watts.
Engine range
Other novelties of the Audi A1 is the new range of engines that starts with a small turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder block that has 116 hp and 148 foot-pounds of torque by means of an automatic seven-clutch S tronic seven-clutch speeds.
As a second option is followed by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder (with selective disconnection of cylinders) also turbo, with 150 hp and 184 foot-pounds of torque available also through the double clutch box.
On the cusp, there is a four-liter 2.0-liter cylinder that delivers a total of 200 hp and 236 foot-pounds of torque by means of a six-clutch dual-gearbox. Here the power is more than demonstrated in the 6.5 seconds that takes off from 0 to 100 km / h.
Among the safety highlights is the speed limiter, the Audi pre sense basic, where the seat belts are electrically tensioned, the windows are closed and the emergency lights of the car are connected, optionally there is the system of Lane departure notice, reverse camera and parking sensors.
