  1. India had its moment at the 47th International Emmy Awards as the cast and makers of the shows nominated for the event sparked on the red carpet. The anthology of four short stories, ‘Lust Stories’, produced by Netflix, was nominated under Best TV Movie/Mini-series category and ‘Sacred Games’ was up for Best Drama Series. Reality show ‘The Remix’ was up for Best Non-Scripted Entertainment and ‘Witness: India's Forbidden Love’ for Best Documentary. The nominations were announced for 11 categories and 44 nominees for the same are from 21 countries including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Israel, the Netherlands, Portugal, Qatar, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States. Despite no awards for India in the extravagant event, the actors and filmmakers truly had their time. Radhika Apte shone the brightest as she made an appearance twice on the red carpet - for Lust Stories as well as for Sacred Games. The 34-year-old was up for the category of Best Actress for Lust Stories. The award eventually went to Hungarian actress Marina Gera. As filmmaker and producer Karan Johar rightly told NDTV before the event, “Whether we win or lose, we will party,” the whole team followed this idea and had a gala evening. Johar had a true fanboy moment when he met the producers of ‘Game of Thrones’, David Benoif and D. B Weiss. Other Indian celebs who attended the event were directors Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap, who were part of ‘Lust Stories’. ‘Sacred Games’ team Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Kubra Sait and director Vikramaditya Motwane was also present at the red carpet.
  2. Tesla has unveiled its "Cybertruck" pickup truck, but not without an embarrassing moment on stage. The truck's windows were smashed during a demonstration supposed to show how hard they were to break. Mr Musk was heard to swear before joking: "Room for improvement." The truck was unveiled in Hawthorne, California, where its stainless steel, angular design was greeted with cheers but also bemusement. "People probably won’t get past the looks of it," said Jessica Caldwell, from vehicle marketplace Edmunds. "It looks like a truck version of the DeLorean from Back To The Future." The pickup market represents a significant opportunity for Tesla as it improves its battery technology, meaning carrying heavier loads over long distances is now practical. According to Edmunds, large trucks have accounted for 14.4% of new vehicle sales up until October this year, compared to 12.6% in 2015. The vehicles have an average selling value of more than $50,000. Tesla's truck will be sold starting at $39,900 (£30,900), a model which has a range of 250 miles (402km), while the most expensive model, at $69,900, will have a range of 500 miles. The truck will seat up to six adults and haul a payload of 3,500lbs, Tesla said. Mr Musk said pre-orders would start immediately, with production starting in late 2021 - though the 48-year-old has a history of missing his own deadlines. The Cybertruck's launch will undoubtedly be overshadowed by the "fail", Ms Caldwell said. It happened during a segment displaying how the car's stainless steel exterior, and metal windows, could withstand bullets and sledgehammers. However, when Tesla's head of design, Franz von Holzhausen, threw a metal ball at the front left window, it smashed. As too did the rear left. "It didn’t go through, that’s a plus side," Mr Musk said. "We threw wrenches, we threw literally the kitchen sink at the glass and it didn’t break. For some reason it broke now… I don’t know why." At the time of writing, Tesla stock price was mostly unchanged in after-hours trading.
  3. A federal judge has ruled that White House staff can be made to testify before Congress, rejecting the Trump administration's claims of immunity. The ruling specifically compels former White House counsel Don McGahn to testify to an inquiry into Russian interference in the 2016 US election. But it also has major implications for the Democrat-led impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump. The Department of Justice says it will appeal the ruling. The impeachment inquiry is trying to establish whether Mr Trump pressured Ukraine's president to investigate his political rival Joe Biden. The Trump administration has refused to cooperate with the impeachment inquiry and other Democrat-led investigations, directing current and former White House officials to defy subpoenas for testimony and documents. Mr McGahn, who left his post in October 2018, was called to appear before the House Judiciary Committee in May to answer questions about the president's attempts to impede the now-concluded Mueller investigation into Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election. But in her ruling, US District Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson said that "no one is above the law". Media captionWhat does it take to impeach a president? "Executive branch officials are not absolutely immune from compulsory congressional process - no matter how many times the executive branch has asserted as much over the years - even if the president expressly directs such officials' noncompliance," she wrote. Fiona Hill: UK coal miner's daughter turned top US Russia expert Released records reveal Pompeo-Giuliani contacts Who's who in the Trump-Ukraine story? Judge Jackson also explicitly said the president "does not have the power" to stop his aides from responding to subpoenas from Congress - adding that "presidents are not kings". "No one, not even the head of the Executive branch, is above the law," Judge Jackson said. But she did say that Mr McGahn could invoke executive privilege "where appropriate", to protect potentially sensitive information. Judiciary Committee chairman Jerrold Nadler said that he expects Mr McGahn to "follow his legal obligations and promptly appear before the Committee". Why is Congress investigating Trump? Monday's ruling could have an effect on who testifies during the current impeachment hearings in Congress. Democrats may use it to summon figures such as former national security advisor John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The impeachment case centres on whether President Trump used the threat of withholding US military aid to pressure Ukraine into investigating a domestic political rival. At the heart of the impeachment inquiry is a phone call on 25 July this year between Mr Trump and Ukraine's newly elected president, Volodymyr Zelensky. During the call, Mr Trump urged his counterpart to look into unsubstantiated corruption claims against Democratic White House contender Joe Biden. Mr Trump's critics say this alleged political pressure on a vulnerable US ally amounted to abuse of power. What next with the impeachment inquiry? The Judiciary Committee is expected to begin drafting articles of impeachment - which are the charges of wrongdoing against the president - in early December. After a vote in the Democratic-controlled House, a trial would be held in the Republican-run Senate. If Mr Trump was convicted by a two-thirds majority - an outcome deemed highly unlikely - he would become the first US president to be removed from office through impeachment. The White House and some Republicans want the trial to be limited to two weeks.
