Game Informations : Developer: Ike Sato Platforms: PC Initial release date: December 10, 1999 at 12:10PM PST Once titled - more accurately - Castlevania: Special Edition, Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness is what Konami's first Nintendo 64 Castlevania title was meant to be when it was released early this year. Everything from Castlevania 64 is present here in an enhanced director's cut version, which contains improved graphics, sound, and two extra scenarios featuring the new characters, Cornell the werewolf and the young warrior Henry. Like the original, Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness isn't very similar to Symphony of the Night on the PlayStation but is a hard-core version of the early titles in the series set in 3D. Taking place eight years before the first N64 game, C:LOD begins with Cornell journeying to Transylvania after his friend Ortega had betrayed him, allowing Cornell's sister Ada to be abducted by Count Dracula. Now it's up to you to rescue her, or die trying. Instead of letting you play as any of the four characters from the start, C:LOD forces you to finish the game as Cornell before you can unlock the remaining three. As Cornell, you play through a mix of all-new levels and levels from the original that now carry different objectives. Cornell uses a sonic-boom-like punch as his primary weapon, and for close combat, he can use his claws to slash enemies. The weapons are pretty much the same as those found throughout the series: axes, daggers, crosses, holy water, and so on. Cornell himself is a little bit tougher to maneuver than Reinhardt or Carrie, because his lock-on is not as precise as theirs, and his attack is a bit slow. You'll end up facing in one direction for a few seconds while enemies attack you from behind and from the side. Cornell has the ability to morph into werewolf form, which makes his attacks and defenses stronger, but, disappointingly, there are no additional special moves. This new scenario is a lot of fun to explore, although, admittedly, it does seem to drag at points.Playing through Reinhardt's and Carrie's scenarios in the director's cut version isn't nearly as fresh an experience as playing as Cornell, but hard-core fans of the series will nevertheless enjoy playing through these now-more-difficult scenarios, with their new levels and bosses. Henry's mission is the shortest and least interesting of them all, requiring you to rescue seven children within six days. The graphics found in Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness are a mixed bag. The game looks much more impressive with the use of the N64 Expansion Pak, but even with the Expansion Pak the frame rate is still very jittery, making it almost unplayable. Without the Expansion Pak, the game looks slightly better than the original. A few touchups have been made to the backgrounds, such as added textures to the walls and added details to the flowers in the gardens. Although it may downgrade the resolution, playing without the Expansion Pak makes the game run much smoother. It's a shame that Konami couldn't use the pak more effectively. Many complained about the lack of music in the original, but Legacy of Darkness contains a nice assortment of new tracks and remixes of classic Castlevania tunes. Other additions include the introduction of cinematics and the option to switch the camera into several different modes. Cornell's intro sequence isn't FMV but an in-game engine cinematic, the likes of which was missing in the original. It's not quite up to what Konami accomplished in Metal Gear Solid, of course, but it's entertaining, and it adds a little flavor to the character. You can now also change the game camera between three different perspectives. But there isn't one view that works well for every situation, and you have to keep switching between them to find the best view of the current action. For example, setting the camera to boss mode will place it so far back that your view is often blocked by a wall in areas inside the castle. Complaints aside, Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness is exactly what it sets out to be: a better version of the original. If you loved the first one, there's enough added value to justify picking this game up, even though it feels a little dated now, and its price is pretty steep. But if you're one of those people who felt that Castlevania should've never made the jump into 3D, Legacy of Darkness will do only a little more than the original in convincing you otherwise. Facebook Marketplace is one of the biggest second-hand buying and selling platforms in the world. But its efforts to slow the spread of coronavirus pale in comparison to those of rival apps. On March 24, one in five people worldwide were in some form of lockdown, with many people only able to go out to pick up essentials (food and medicine), or to get some exercise. Things remain largely unchanged. “Stay at home. Protect the NHS. Save lives.” That’s the message U.K. citizens are hearing over and over again. Popping to someone’s house to pick up a second-hand this or that probably isn’t a great idea right now. However, a host of Facebook Marketplace users in the U.K. told CNBC that they were still completing face-to-face transactions over the platform. Some of them said they’re taking their own precautions by wearing masks and gloves, but not all. The company has said that users should follow government advice and it was monitoring the situation. CNBC spoke to people selling an £8 ($10) hat from Gap, a £10 indoor palm tree, a £360 Nintendo Switch, some £25 Bose headphones, an £80 golf bag. Items that could all carry the virus. There’s a plethora of items on the platform and sellers say they’re getting more offers than normal, probably because people have more time to trawl through listings. “I recently moved house so have extra plants and gardening tools to sell,” one Facebook Marketplace seller said. “People are showing interest for these as they are currently gardening. But it is also that spring is here.” Gumtree and Shpock have told their users not to visit other people’s homes. They’ve spelled it out in emails and in-app notifications. “Please don’t meet up,” Shpock wrote in the headline of an email to users on April 7. The Austrian start-up is currently subsidizing door-to-door contactless deliveries in partnership with Parcel2Go. The deliveries are completed by couriers from Hermes and Parcelforce, who have taken steps to protect their workforce by providing them with the right gear and training. “We felt that the way our marketplace was operating — with users often meeting up for personal collection — wasn’t going to be safe for our community during times of the coronavirus pandemic,” a Shpock spokesperson told CNBC. “We saw that users continued to close deals and were taking risks, so we decided to openly address the topic.” Gumtree has launched a similar contactless delivery service called Gumtree Door to Door and it’s promoting it heavily both on the website and via emails. Meanwhile, Facebook is not offering a contactless delivery service. Instead, it’s telling users that a number of delivery services exist. Going offline Freecycle, a non-profit that allows people to offer up items for free, has suspended its service in some areas. For example, the Southwark Freecycle group in London, England, is currently not in operation. Meanwhile, Facebook Marketplace hasn’t gone as far as to tell U.K. users not to meet up, despite there being a lockdown in place. A banner at the top of the Marketplace encourages users to follow local guidelines on staying at home, but it doesn’t explicitly rule out in-person transactions. “We suggest following guidelines from the U.K. government,” the banner reads. A Facebook spokesperson told CNBC that it has teams of people monitoring the Covid-19 situation. “We’re continually exploring more ways to keep our community safe and informed,” they said. “We’re also taking steps to prevent people exploiting this crisis for financial gain, and have temporarily banned listings on Marketplace for medical face masks, hand sanitizers, surface disinfecting wipes, and COVID-19 testing kits.”

Apparently upset by those unauthenticated userbench leaks that happened a few days ago, he took matters into his own hands and leaked the complete spec sheet for AMD Renoir Desktop APUs, which are likely going to be part of the Ryzen 4000 series. AMD's Renoir APUs will offer an incredibly powerful Zen 2 CPU core coupled with a highly capable Vega iGPU that will allow any customer to play games on reasonable settings (1080p) without purchasing any dedicated graphics card. There was a time when this number was only found on the highest-end GPU, but now gamers on a budget can find it inside an AMD APU. Clocked at 1.75 GHz, this particular iGPU is capable of outputting a solid 1.8 TFLOPs of graphics horsepower - the same as a PS4! The President of the Republic, Martín Vizcarra, reported that, until this Wednesday, May 13, a total of 76,306 people infected with COVID-19 have been registered in Peru, representing an increase of 4,247 cases compared to the previous day. This figure represents the maximum number of infections during a single day in the development of the coronavirus pandemic in our country, since previously the other peaks were on May 5, when 3,815 infections were reported; on May 7 (3,709 infections); and on April 25 (2,683 infections). In addition, this Wednesday, May 13, the "peak" of the number of deaths in 24 hours was also reached, since 112 deaths were registered. On April 30 the figure reached 108 deaths and on May 9 there were 100 deaths from COVID-19. Currently, the total death toll stands at 2,169. President Martín Vizcarra also detailed that to date there are 6,979 patients hospitalized for COVID-19, of which 806 are in the intensive care unit. Likewise, another 24,324 patients were discharged after having overcome the coronavirus. During the conference on Wednesday, the head of state assured that Peru reached the top of the pandemic and that a slow decline will begin. You mean the WordPerfect and clip-art people are trying to frag it out with the likes of Duke and Quake? What are they going to use, you may well ask, templates and macros? Well, not quite, but Ashes to Ashes, their unimaginative though entertaining knock-off in the first-person shooter genre, is not going to scare anybody at id quite yet. Still, this game's use of exterior settings, 3-D terrain, and multiple vehicle types makes it refreshing enough to hunt down when it hits the bargain shelves - in...oh, say, about three weeks. In the 22nd century, international conflicts are settled by professional warriors who blast it out in spacious outdoor arenas throughout the world. Something has gone awry: Soldiers are exhibiting unpredictable behavior, world peace is threatened, and you are the lone gunman who is airlifted into these arenas to exterminate the mercenaries. Eight different arenas, from desert to bayou to lunar terrain, contain multiple levels (50 in all) in which your only task is KETM (kill everything that moves) until you collect three "evil brains" from enemy carcasses and advance to the next level. Even for a genre whose back stories tend to be flaccid afterthoughts (Does anyone know or care what Quake is about?), I must say that A2A's premise and level goals stand out as remarkably inane. I came upon no secret areas or puzzles, just a lot of armored robots and vehicles to pick off, power-ups and ammo to grab, blah, blah, blah. The evil brains do talk back to you with clever quips, but these grow old by the third level. And the CD-based soundtrack employs offbeat, out- of-context tunes like Conga riffs in another misfired attempt to add lightheartedness. Visual and sound effects are of the standard blast-and-burst variety - nothing especially atmospheric or immersive. Your enemies - soldiers in bioarmor and power suits, flying on cycles or in orb-shaped tanks - are equally uninspired. Ashes to Ashes could be dismissed out of hand as a thoughtless knock-off if its 3-D terrain modelling and multiple vehicles weren't so genuinely refreshing. The Win95 graphics for the ground-level, outdoor combat are not especially detailed, but they are glass-smooth and offer a good sense of open-air battle, not unlike last year's Terra Nova. The early terrain is bland and undulating, which allows for enemy soldiers to emerge from behind a hilltop quite nicely. But it is in the upper levels of valleys and mountain plateaus where the landscape adds an intriguing tactical element. Reconnaissance of enemy strongholds from behind protective terrain becomes possible, as does finding good defensive positions. Complementing the varied terrain is your ability to hijack five enemy devices like armor suits, Assault Cycles, and Roller Tanks, each with distinct weaponry and movement that are useful in different terrain situations. Cycles allow you to assault elevated structures and cross mountains, while the tanks can plod and blast through amassed soldiers. Switching among vehicles, especially as the ground contours become more complex, is a welcome change from the usual corridor march-and-shoot conventions. Alas, none of the levels is intricate enough to exploit this innovation fully. The multiple vehicles and terrain modeling of Ashes to Ashes do energize an otherwise shallow clone with variety and some depth. But at full price, and compared with other action games currently on the store shelf (if it ever makes it there), Ashes to Ashes offers too little, too late for most action gamers. The demo is worth a look, and a $20 price would make the game a reasonable buy. All the standard ingredients are intact: a trek across a metropolitan dystopia, baseball bats, evil gang members, scantily clad karate prostitutes, punching, and lifebars. Unfortunately, perhaps in a misguided attempt to make Urban Chaos more realistic, the developers have replaced retro-gaming's universal health power-up, the big-boned hunk of meat, with a generic medical kit. But Mucky Foot can be forgiven for this oversight, because it's one of the game's only significant missteps. Urban Chaos is a great looking and ingenious reinvention of a classic genre. Union City is a town in crisis. The end of the 20th century is approaching fast, and a gang of thugs called the Wildcats runs rampant through the streets. Worse yet, their brand of chaos seems to extend past mere delinquency to also include more sinister millennial cult activities. As rookie cop D'arci Stern, you must first prove yourself to your superiors then take on the tougher-than-their-name-implies Wildcats by uncovering their wicked plans and stopping them. Your task of defeating the Wildcats takes the form of a series of assignments that occur at various locations across a map of Union City. Often there will be more than one mission available at a given time, and specific locations within the city are generally used for more than one assignment. The several dozen missions offer a variety of unusual and engaging tasks. One early level requires you to sneak up on a suicidal man and talk him out of leaping off a building into the gawking crowd below. Another has you rescuing a hostage, who then fights alongside you as you battle your way back to safety. Although every level has one specific goal, there is generally no time limit in which you must accomplish that goal. Each area is a fully rendered 3D representation of a section of Union City that can usually be explored at your leisure before actually finishing the mission. Exploration will uncover lots of little side tasks that can be completed for skills-building bonuses. The side tasks add a huge amount of replay value, as they're often as complex and unusual as the primary goals themselves. For instance, the suicide prevention level contains a completely optional assignment wherein you help a fellow officer whose squad car has been stolen. You must interview the prostitute who witnessed the theft, then locate and retrieve the vehicle.Retrieving the vehicle means climbing into it and driving it. Along with fighting crime on foot, you are sometimes required to get behind the wheel of various vehicles. The car control is a little off and doesn't have the feel of a more fully realized city-driving game such as Driver or Midtown Madness. But it's still a nice bonus, and after chasing down and running over a fleeing thug, then jumping out of the car and slapping the cuffs on him while he's dazed on the pavement, you probably won't complain much. Regardless of their underlying objectives, most missions involve a substantial amount of action-packed hand-to-hand combat. Urban Chaos' fighting system is simple but effective. Aside from running over her enemies, D'arci can punch, kick, grapple, and wield weapons she picks up off the ground, such as baseball bats, knives, and guns. (Later in the game, a mysterious second character called Roper also becomes playable.) The developers have created an excellent system for fighting multiple opponents in three dimensions: Combat is initiated by moving within range of an enemy. At that point, a lifebar appears above his head and you are locked facing him until one of you is subdued. If other enemies are in the vicinity, they'll join the attack. A button press will cycle you to face each combatant in the area. You can also use back kicks and side kicks so that you can beat up a thug who's creeping up to blindside you. You'll need a gamepad to control all your moves effectively, and once you get used to the system, you'll find that the melee combat is fun and also deeply satisfying thanks to the excellent sound effects. Urban Chaos also does an admirable job of making you feel as if you're wandering around a living city. The texture work, architecture, and smoke and lighting effects are gorgeous. The streets are packed with innocent bystanders and moving traffic. Leaves and garbage swirl around your feet in an uncannily realistic way as you run down Union City's grimy alleyways. Standing on the roof of a tenement building and staring down at the bustling city below with the moon at your back actually makes you feel like a superhero watching over your city, and no game has yet produced this dramatic effect as well as Urban Chaos. The fact that Urban Chaos is an enjoyable third-person action game with no switch flipping, box pushing, or key finding should be reason enough for you to purchase it. That it's also great looking, inventive, funny, and even a little tactical makes it a must for anyone who can appreciate stylish but relatively mindless console-style action. After announcing that it would add protection against reply-all email chains last year, Microsoft has rolled out a new feature to Office 365 customers to do just that. An email storm typically occurs when a member of a large email distribution list, such as a company wide email at a large organization, replies to all of the recipients using the reply-all feature. This can inadvertently trigger a DDoS attack that has the potential to take down the email servers used to deliver the huge amount of replies sent during the storm. Email storms occur quite frequently and Microsoft itself suffered two of these incidents in January and March of this year. The first involved 11,500 of the company's employees while the second was much larger and included more than 52,000 employees. Reply All Storm Protection According to Microsoft, its Reply All Storm Protection feature is currently able to block all email threads with over 5,000 recipients that have generated more than 10 reply-all sequences within the last 60 minutes. Once the feature gets alerted that an email storm is occurring, Exchange Online will block all replies in an email thread for the next few hours in order to help servers prioritize actual emails while working to shut down the reply-all email chain. Microsoft plans to continue working on the feature in the future and the company has promised to add controls for Exchange admins to allow them to set up their own email storm detection limits. The Exchange Team provided more details on how the feature will work and on its plans for future updates in a blog post, saying: “Initially the Reply All Storm Protection feature will mostly benefit large organizations who have large distribution lists. When the feature detects a likely reply all storm taking place on a large DL it will block subsequent attempts to reply all to the thread and will return an NDR to the sender. The reply all block will remain in place for several hours. As spotted by hardware publication Guru3D, HP's unannounced EX900 Pro M.2 SSD has been listed with substantial performance and endurance uplifts. The EX900 Pro still comes in the M.2 2280 form factor with a single-sided design and slides into your regular PCIe 3.0 x4 interface. Biwin's listing is extremely stingy on the the technical details of the drive, so it's hard to tell if it'll be one of the best SSDs upon release. For example, it's unclear what kind of SSD controller or NAND the EX900 Pro uses. The original EX900 leverages Silicon Motion's SM2263XT DRAM-less controller, which features Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology, and Micron's 64-layer 3D TLC (triple-level cell) NAND chips. In layman's terms, HMB allows SSD vendors to use a certain amount of your system's memory to compensate for the lack of DRAM on the SSD itself. The EX900's ratio is 1MB of memory for every 1GB of NAND memory. Biwin listed EX900 Pro 256GB, 512GB and 1TB drives with DRAM sizes of 256MB, 512MB and 1GB, respectively. This suggests that HP could be using a SSD controller with DRAM for the EX900 Pro. While the prior EX900 started at 120GB, based on the Biwin listing, the Pro variant will start at 500GB. The change in density is only the tip of the iceberg though, as the EX900 Pro also flaunts improved performance and endurance levels. In general, the EX900 Pro has slower sequential reads compared to the EX900 drives, but it's a mere 7% difference. The sequential write results vary, depending on model. For example, the EX900 Pro 256GB model has roughly 14% lower sequential writes than the EX900 250GB, but the EX900 Pro 512GB model delivers up to 20% higher than the EX900 500GB model. The EX900 Pro excels in the random performance area. We're looking at enhancements between 39% and 61% in random writes and between 147% and 161%, depending on the capacity. The endurance levels for the EX900 Pro have improved considerably as well. Improvements pan from 129% to 225%, depending on which models you're comparing. This huge upgrade could only mean that HP is utilizing higher density NAND than before, perhaps the Micron 96-layer 3D TLC chips. Whatever ingredients HP is utilizing with the upcoming EX900 Pro, the company seems pretty confident in their reliability. HP backs the EX900 Pro with a limited five-year warranty, two more years than the previous EX900. At the moment, price and release date for the EX900 Pro drives are unknown. But since there's a listing, we expect HP to release the SSDs soon.

Its clean graphics and quirky animation are complemented by clearly delivered voice-overs, good sound effects and background music, all of which are upbeat, if repetitive. Unfortunately, despite its good looks and sounds, LEGO Rock Raiders is often frustrating and at times downright boring to play. LEGO Rock Raiders takes its title from the actual building-block set of the same name and from the stalwart crew of characters you command in the game. The intrepid Rock Raiders have been sucked into an intergalactic wormhole and forced to land on a faraway planet. Their only hope of getting home is to mine the planet's caverns for ore and energy crystals to repair their damaged starship. From the moment your first crew member is beamed down to the planet to the end of each mission-based level, LEGO Rock Raiders looks very good. For instance, even though each of the game's levels takes place in some sort of rocky cavern, the walls, rocks, and other features are all plainly but cleanly textured. Rock Raiders' character models are also simple, blocky shapes detailed by simple, solid-color textures. Yet your LEGO troopers and buildings look exactly as they should; characters and buildings all look exactly like their colorful plastic snap-together counterparts. The Rock Raiders and the dangerous-yet-cute alien monsters they encounter are all cleverly and whimsically animated - both in the actual game and in the excellent cutscenes that precede each mission. Each of Rock Raiders' 33 missions is accompanied by simple, low-key techno tracks whose bass-heavy beats are in keeping with the game's underground locales but are otherwise forgettable. Likewise, Rock Raiders' voice acting is effective in most cases. It's especially informative in enhanced mode, one of the game's two installment options, the other being standard install. In enhanced mode, resting the cursor on any onscreen object or character elicits a loud, clearly spoken voice cue; younger children might find the extra identification helpful while playing. And Chief, the Rock Raiders captain, speaks with an amusingly gruff faux British accent as he briefs you on each mission and walks you through the game's seven tutorial missions in their entirety. However, Chief's briefings and hints are long-winded and dry - so much so that the same youngsters who were probably intended to benefit from his thoroughness may instead find themselves dozing off at the keyboard. Fortunately, Rock Raiders' in-game sound effects are good enough to hold anyone's attention; the landslides and dynamite explosions emit loud, appropriate rumbles and crashes, and both the raiders and the monsters make their own endearingly humorous noises when they get injured or tired, or when they do pretty much anything other than dig, build, or wander about. Unfortunately, digging, building, and wandering about are pretty much all your units do. There's no actual combat in Rock Raiders; when you do encounter a monster, you click your mouse once to put your units on action stations, and they'll scare off the enemy on their own. In fact, your raiders will do pretty much everything on their own, despite the vague hierarchy of priorities you can set for them. This autopilot artificial intelligence was probably intended to keep youngsters from being overwhelmed by micromanaging many different units at once - as such, all you do in Rock Raiders is give out orders, sit, wait, and hope they get carried out soon. However, your units are so autonomous that they'll often directly disobey orders, and this can be frustrating to say the least. To make matters worse, Rock Raiders' interface isn't terribly helpful - there are no means to jump to or center on a specific raider, so you'll have to scroll around the screen to find the one AWOL raider you need to complete the mission. Rock Raiders' mission design doesn't do much for the game either. Since there's no combat, no diplomacy, and very little effective unit management, the majority of the gameplay is gathering resources to build structures. Even though different missions will have different objectives, like rescuing lost team members or building an air-supply station before your oxygen runs out, the ultimate objective for each mission is the same: Gather resources, either to build a certain building - perhaps to create a certain vehicle in turn - or simply to fulfill the mission's quota. No matter what you do, you'll usually find yourself waiting for your raiders to go back and forth among the cavern walls to collect enough resources - and in later missions, when more development and more resources are required, this can be tedious indeed. Even the search-and-rescue missions are largely dependent on building the right structure or vehicle, which you'll need to locate and/or reach your teammates. And to make matters worse, you can't save your game in the middle of a mission - so to advance through the game, you'll have to sit through each long resource-gathering session from start to finish. It's truly lamentable that Rock Raiders turned out the way it did. It sounds good and looks even better, and its emphasis on building over combat seemed like it would make Rock Raiders a fun, nonviolent means of introducing younger players to the concentration and management skills that real-time strategy games require. Unfortunately, its tedious gameplay, repetitive mission structure, and monotonous narration will likely vanquish the attention spans of all but the most dedicated LEGO devotees.
