Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are expected to launch soon as successors to the Pixel 7 lineup, which was unveiled in October 2022. Compared to the Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro, the upcoming Pixel 8 series is said to include a new Tensor chipset, improved cameras, and slightly smaller footprint. Even though Google has not officially announced the models officially yet, details about the handsets have been doing rounds of the rumour mill for the past few weeks. A new leak now suggests the storage and colour options of the two highly-anticipated phones. Tipster Roland Quandt (@rquandt) suggested in a recent Winfuture report that the base Google Pixel 8 is likely to launch in 128GB and 256GB storage variants, while the Pixel 8 Pro could offer 128GB, 256GB and 512GB options, much like the models in the preceding Pixel 7 lineup. Earlier reports tipped that the base model is likely to arrive with 8GB of RAM, while the Pixel 8 Pro is expected to carry 12GB of RAM. The report adds that the base Pixel 8 model is expected to be offered in Licorice, Peony, and Haze colour options. Meanwhile, the high-end Pixel 8 Pro could launch in Licorice, Porcelain, and Sky colour options, according to the report. A fourth Jade colour variant was tipped to feature in the lineup in an earlier report, but has not been listed since. Both models are tipped to be powered by in-house Tensor G3 SoCs paired with Titan chips and are expected to boot stock Android 14 out-of-the-box. The Pixel 8 is likely to sport a 6.17-inch full-HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) OLED display, while the Pixel 8 Pro could come with a 6.7-inch QHD+ (2960 x 1440 pixels) LTPO OLED panel, both with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The camera unit on the Pixel 8 is tipped to include a 50-megapixel primary Samsung ISOCELL GN2 sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a 12-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens alongside an 11-megapixel front camera sensor. Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 Pro is reported to get a triple rear camera system, that is said to be equipped with a 50-megapixel primary sensor with OIS support, a 64-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 48-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens accompanied by an 11-megapixel sensor for selfies and video call in the front. Finally, the Pixel 8 is tipped to be backed by a 4,485mAh battery with 24W wired charging and 12W wireless charging support, while the Pixel 8 Pro has been said to pack a 4,950mAh battery with 27W wired fast charging support.

One of Windows 11’s most frustrating habits is filling your PC with apps and games you don’t want or use – but a new trick has been discovered that lets you install Windows 11 without all that junk. As Windows Latest found, the trick is pretty easy to pull off – all you need to do is set your region to English (World) during the setup process. Choosing this (or European English) in the ‘Time and currency format’ drop-down list during setup causes an issue where Windows 11’s setup services cannot communicate with Microsoft’s services, due to them using the en-001 and en-150 language codes. This causes an “OOBEREGION” error message to appear. While that might seem a little scary (it even puts the error name in red, just for emphasis), you can select ‘Skip’ which will continue with the installation. Even better, it means you’ll end up with a fresh Windows 11 installation with no annoying bloatware – just the basic, essential, apps. Bloatware begone! "Bloatware" is the less-than charitable name for apps and games that come pre-installed on your devices. If you’ve ever bought a PC or laptop from a major manufacturer, you’ll likely find that the first time you boot up Windows 11, there are a load of additional applications already installed, such as trials for anti-virus software. While some pre-installed apps may be useful, for most people, these applications are never used, and simply take up space on your hard drive, slow down Windows when it boots, and can even throw up annoying pop-up notifications asking you to subscribe. Sadly, in recent years, Microsoft has been getting in on the act as well, which means even if you build your own PC, or perform a clean install of Windows 11, there will still be unwanted apps included. So, this rather useful trick is certainly welcome, as it’ll mean you’ll get a much cleaner experience, and your Start menu will only be filled with essential Windows apps, as well as any apps you install yourself. This doesn’t stop third-party apps from your laptop manufacturer appearing, but if you want to perform a clean install from Microsoft’s own installation software (rather than from the software your PC/laptop manufacturer provides), then you’ll get a fresh bloatware-free version of Windows 11. You’ll need to put your region back to your current location when done, to make sure everything works as normal. Unfortunately, this workaround may not last forever, as Windows Latest reports that a Microsoft spokesperson told the website that the company was aware of it, and is looking into it. That means Microsoft is likely to patch this out in an upcoming Windows 11 update. This is a shame, but not entirely surprising. Like manufacturers of the best laptops, Microsoft likely gets money from the makers of the apps and games it preinstalls, so it’ll want to make sure they get installed. This workaround also exploits an issue with how Microsoft’s services struggle to handle some language codes, and the company will also be keen to fix that, especially if it could lead to other, less useful, side effects.

TSMC in collaboration with partners Bosch, Infineon, and NXP, on Tuesday unveiled plans to form a joint venture and construct a chip fabrication facility near Dresden, Germany. The joint venture named European Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (ESMC) will own a fab that will produce chips for automotive, industrial, and IoT applications using TSMC's 12nm, 16nm, 22nm, and 28nm-class process technologies starting from late 2027. The planned ESMC fab is expected to have a production capacity of around 40,000 300-mm wafer starts per month, though TSMC does not disclose whether by a wafer it means a wafer processed on a 28nm node, or a 12nm process technology. By modern standards, a fab with a 40,000 WSPM is not exactly a large production facility (GlobalFoundries' Fab 1 in Dresden has capacity of well over 100,000 WSPM), but since this particular fab will be used almost exclusively for German and Austrian automakers, industrial equipment producers, and IoT companies, it should be just enough to meet their demands in the latter half of the decade. "This investment in Dresden demonstrates TSMC’s commitment to serving our customers’ strategic capacity and technology needs, and we are excited at this opportunity to deepen our long-standing partnership with Bosch, Infineon, and NXP," said Dr. CC Wei, CEO of TSMC. "Europe is a highly promising place for semiconductor innovation, particularly in the automotive and industrial fields, and we look forward to bringing those innovations to life on our advanced silicon technology with the talent in Europe." Meanwhile, the fab will use TSMC's mature technologies, such as 28nm and its various specialized derivatives, including 22nm low power fabrication process. TSMC has been trying to urge automakers and other customers to transit their long-living designs to its 28nm-class nodes for a couple of years now and cease using legacy 45nm, 65nm, 90nm, and older nodes. Now that there is a 28nm-capable fab in Europe, they will certainly be more inclined to do so. In addition, the fab will be capable of processing wafers on TSMC's FinFET-based 16nm and 12nm production nodes that are gaining po[CENSORED]rity among automakers today. The new fab is meant to ensure a consistent chip supply for German and Austrian automotive giants in the second half of the decade. There is a catch though. Complex system-in-packages for self-driving and infotainment will define value of autos in the coming years. And yet, automakers like BMW, Mercedes, Stellantis, and VAG — which are investing heavily in proprietary silicon for their autos due in the coming years — will have to produce their SoCs and SiPs either in Taiwan or the U.S. if they go with TSMC. Alternatively, they will have to use Intel's fab near Magdeburg, Germany, to make their leading-edge processors. "Infineon will use the new capacity to serve the growing demand particularly of its European customers, especially in automotive and IoT," said Jochen Hanebeck, CEO of Infineon Technologies. "The advanced capabilities will provide a basis for developing innovative technologies, products and solutions to address the global challenges of decarbonization and digitalisation." The ESCM fab is slated to start constriction in the second half of 2024 and begin production in late 2027. TSMC will operate the fab. As far as ownership is concerned, TSMC is poised to command a majority 70% stake in the venture, whereas the remaining partners —Bosch, Infineon, and NXP— will equally share the remaining equity, each securing a 10% stake. Investments in the fab are expected to be around €10 billion with €5 billion rumored to come in subsidies from from the German government and under European Chips Act.

Microsoft is expanding the rollout of its Copilot AI to testers in the Beta channel for Windows 11 – but it comes with a sting in the tail. Copilot has arrived with Beta build 22631.2129, but as with the preview incarnation of the AI in earlier builds, it’s in a limited form right now. As Microsoft observes, this is more about getting the integrated UI for Copilot right – it runs in a sidebar, to the right – rather than testing all its features. We’re told that “additional functionality [is] coming down the road in future previews.” Also, it should be noted that Copilot will be a “controlled feature rollout” meaning only a small amount of testers will get it initially. It’ll arrive for more folks in the “coming weeks”, so this is a rollout that could take some time. (It’s also worth noting that not every Insider will get this build either – new testers, and a subset of existing testers, won’t get 22631 as it might cause their device to be put “into a bad state”, which sounds ominous). If you’re not seeing Copilot and you’re in the Beta channel, then, this isn’t unexpected – but you should make sure you’re running Microsoft Edge version 115.0.1901.150 or better. (As the AI is powered via Edge, you definitely won’t get it on an older version of the browser). Yes, there we have it – adverts are going to be displayed in Copilot (we’ll come back to discuss that more thoroughly in a moment). Elsewhere in build 22631, there’s a raft of tweaks and improvements, including some fresh work on bolstering accessibility. That comes in the form of the ability to now use Voice Access on the lock screen, plus there are new text editing controls when using speech dictation. (In order to help correct words that are misheard, or mistyped, as it were, by the voice recognition system – like putting ‘cereal’ when you meant ‘serial’ for example). Check out Microsoft’s blog post for the full list of changes. Analysis: So, ads in Copilot – testers, make your feelings known… Windows Copilot making it to a beta build already is a pretty big thing, actually. This relatively swift progress through test builds suggests that Microsoft is serious about getting the AI integrated into Windows 11 this year. Rumors have indicated that Copilot could land with the 23H2 update, and this makes it look like that’s more likely to happen – even though we’ve said in the past we don’t think it will. We’re still very unsure if it’s wise for Microsoft to push this hard getting Copilot out so quickly, though. The AI remains pretty barebones, and as Microsoft makes clear, it only has a “basic set” of Windows settings you can mani[CENSORED]te. (Turning on dark mode, or do not disturb, or ordering Copilot to take a screenshot are a few examples of Windows 11 functionality given in the blog post). It's mostly still about the Bing AI summarizing things, or composing a picture, or writing text for you, and so forth – all the stuff that can be done already using the Bing chatbot on the web. Over time, more features will be added, of course – and third-party plug-ins will expand Copilot’s functionality considerably – but all that seems quite a way down the line. With Windows 11’s 23H2 update potentially arriving in October, that’s really very close now, so we don’t really get what Microsoft is planning here. It feels like the full launch of Copilot will be a basic incarnation of the AI, if it happens, and that runs the risk of underwhelming with first impressions. Oh well, we shall find out soon enough. As for Copilot serving up adverts, this is something that Microsoft has said in the past, but the software giant appears to be pushing ahead with this frankly reckless idea. That’s not too surprising, though, as we are seeing more efforts to cram ads into Windows 11 – disguised as recommendations – lately. But obviously, it’s still a very unwelcome move in an operating system Microsoft charges you for. We’d expect feedback to be pretty withering on this, particularly if, as it sounds, these will be more out-and-out adverts than what we’ve already seen in Windows 11 (like badging in the Start menu). And so hopefully Microsoft will have to take that into account, and curtail these ambitions. Hopefully being the keyword there…

News about the potential room-temperature superconductor dubbed LK-99 is a story that has gripped a much wider audience than the science genre usually reaches. The incredibly broad appeal of this news, which could have far-reaching impacts on our everyday lives, has now permeated the less-than-serious cryptocurrency community. An LK-99 meme coin was established a few days ago, and it is doing a roaring trade. In its first 24 hours of trading, the LK-99 coin surpassed $3 million in trading volume. Meme coins are cryptocurrencies that sometimes become po[CENSORED]r due to the enthusiastic reception for the thing or idea they represent. Famous meme coins include Dogecoin, and we have also seen tokens based on Pepe the Frog, Floki, and Harry Potter catch the zeitgeist. Obviously, LK-99 looked like a good opportunity for the foundation of a new meme coin, and Coin Telegraph notes that several LK-99 coins have been listed on the decentralized exchange Uniswap. Probably the leading contender for any meme coin durability is the ERC-20 LK-99 token, which, per our headline, was of enough interest to generate $3 million in trading volume in its first 24 hours. If we look at this LK-99 meme coin today, the news is a little sadder. Was this meme coin another pump-and-dump escapade? It seems to look like it, or at least its rise and fall, appear to trace the classic bubble chart. This isn’t surprising as meme coin developers are often upfront about these tokens being of no intrinsic value. With the ebbs and flows of LK-99 keeping us on our toes, it wouldn’t be surprising if there were some more spikes and falls in ERC-20 LK-99 token valuations, but it is a characteristically risky digital asset to put any serious money into. We have been busy keeping up with LK-99 news and developments as they happen. In our latest installment of the LK-99 saga, yesterday, we noted that another institution concluded that LK-99 indeed showed evidence of superconductivity (magnetism due to the Meissner effect) at room temperature. However, demonstrating or observing zero electrical resistance of the material at room temperature seems to be a stickier issue. Stay tuned for more LK-99 insights, and the Wikipedia Live Tracker for LK-99 is also useful for those wanting to keep abreast of the latest developments.

Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 11 version 22H2 update, which will be introducing several new features to the Start Menu interface, can also break said Start Menu if certain third-party apps are also installed on the OS. Windows 11 update 22H2, which will most likely be coming out sooner rather than later in 2023 according to a recent report from Windows Latest, would add a feature that if you hover over a recommended file, a preview panel pops up showing relevant details. However, according to PCMag, a preview build of the update that launched ahead of the general release is already breaking the Start Menu. Microsoft seems to have already narrowed down the cause: third-party user interface modification apps, such as ExplorerPatcher, which "aims to enhance the working environment on Windows." But instead of planning a patch for the bug, the tech giant is instead suggesting that users uninstall from this list of third-party apps before they install the update. But what if you already installed the update, and now your Start Menu is bugged? Then Microsoft suggests that you contact the app developer for a solution. This means that those already suffering from the bug could have a broken OS by the time the update officially launches. We’ve reached out to Microsoft concerning the issue and will update this article with any official statements. Who’s fault is it? On one hand, when a user installs a third-party app on their PC, they’re accepting the risk involved with that app. While Microsoft allows for users to have third-party apps, the developers of said apps are the ones responsible for maintenance and bug fixes, unlike Microsoft and its own first-party apps. So the tech giant refusing to fix this issue in particular is fair game, especially since it has its own list of bugs and issues to patch. However, considering that it’s several third-party apps tied to a specific type and that Microsoft quickly narrowed down the cause, it’s clearly an issue with the update not playing nice with user interface modification apps. And Microsoft not offering any solutions, especially those with a now suddenly broken OS, is not a great look for an OS that’s constantly and consistently riddled with bugs and issues. It’s technically not either entity’s fault, third-party app developers wouldn’t have a reason to suspect their apps would bug the Start Menu with this update, and Microsoft has a solid reason for not wanting to get involved with the cleanup. Hopefully developers have a patch coming in soon to fix this major headache, though the most ideal solution would be for Microsoft to patch it instead.

Intel has launched a new innovation center in Shenzhen, China. The center will work on artificial intelligence (AI), chips, and edge computing applications for the local market. As reported by The Register. Essentially, Intel wants to develop products for China in the People's Republic. Meanwhile, the decision by the U.S. company somewhat contradicts the harsh U.S. stance against Chinese high-tech industries. The innovation center would utilize "Intel's existing technologies and products to continuously enable the application innovations of our partners and customers with an open ecosystem, with a focus on applications in artificial intelligence (AI), chip applications and edge computing etc to address the local market demand," a statement from Intel published by The Register reads. The Intel Greater Bay Area Innovation Centre is a collaborative effort between Intel, Nanshan district government in Shenzhen, and local technology firms. In particular, Intel will work with portable electronics maker Ugreen as well as fabless chip designers Senary Technology Group and Chipsea Technologies, to establish multiple joint laboratories. These labs will focus on research areas such as low-carbon and energy-saving IT solutions, PC and server chips, and smart transport. In addition to this, Intel has committed to providing technical and resource support for startups in Nanshan to facilitate market roll-outs and industry access. Media reports indicate that 60 local tech firms attended the opening ceremony. "We will further leverage Intel's technology and ecosystem strengths … facilitate the integration and development of emerging sectors in the Greater Bay Area and across the country … and help develop the digital economy," Intel China chairwoman Wang Rui is reported to have said, according to the South China Morning Post. The unveiling of the new innovation center coincided with Intel's introduction of its new Gaudi 2 processor designed for AI training and inference, which meets U.S. export requirements and can be sold to Chinese customers. The customized version promises to be in high demand as not all companies in China can obtain Nvidia's A800 and H800 compute GPUs due to extraordinary costs, high demand, and scarce availability. The decision to open up a new development hub in China can be considered as part of Intel's efforts to retain business in China amidst deteriorating relationship between the U.S. and China, which has led to the U.S. imposing restrictions on chip exports.

Musician Name:Albert Leornes Greene Birthday / Location: April 13, 1946 (age 77) Forrest City, Arkansas United States Main instrument: Soul, R&B, gospel, Southern soul soul progressivo Musician Picture: Musician Awards & Nominations:- Best Performance: - Other Information: Al Green started singing at the age of nine along with three other brothers in his father's gospel group, the Green Brothers. The quartet even toured the southern United States during the 1950s. At that time, the Greene family moved to the state of Michigan. There, young Al Green formed his R&B group, called Al Green and the Creations (which in 1968 would be renamed the Soul Mates). In 1968, the Soul Mates reached the Top 5 of the Billboard Black Singles chart with the song "Back Up Train". In 1969, Green left the band and pursued a solo career. He met producer Willie Mitchell, with whom he became very close. That same year, "Green is Blues", his debut album, was released. The following year he released the album "Al Green Gets Next to You". Subsequently, Al Green released 1972's "Let's Stay Together". The LP peaked at number eight on the Billboard Pop chart and number one on the Black chart. The title song topped both lists. Later, Al Green would experience a personal tragedy in 1975 involving his girlfriend Mary Woodson. In October 1974, after being refused a marriage proposal, Mary threw a boiling pot over Al while he was taking a bath. The singer had second-degree burns on his abdomen, back and arm. After the aggression, Mary went into another room and committed suicide, with Green's gun. Subsequently, Al Green converted to Christianity. By 1976, he had purchased a church in Memphis and ordained as pastor of Full Gospel Tabernacle. Although he continued to record R&B, sales of his records began to decline and criticism of his work grew - although music critics praised "The Belle Album", from 1977. During a performance in 1979, Green was injured and so, the singer approached religion even more, starting to preach and sing only gospel music. His first album of this phase was "The Lord Will Make a Way", in 1980. From 1981 to 1989, Green recorded more albums in the genre, eight of which were awarded the Grammy for "Best Soul/Gospel Performance". In 1984, film director Robert Mugge released "Gospel According to Al Green", a documentary that includes interviews about the singer's life and footage of him in his church. After several years in the gospel style, Green began his return to R&B, with the release of the duet with British singer Annie Lennox of "Put A Little Love In Your Heart" (written in 1968 by Jackie DeShannon), for the comedy The Phantoms Against -Atacam, and the composition of the hit "The Message Is Love", a partnership with producer Arthur Baker. His 1994 duet with country music singer Lyle Lovett fused this style of music with R&B and won him his ninth Grammy - a first in the pop music category. The following year, Green's first secular (non-religious) album "Your Heart's In Good Hands" was released. Although it received positive reviews from music critics, the CD did not sell well. In 1995, Green was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2000, Green published "Take Me to the River", a book that examines his career. Two years later, the singer received a Grammy for Lifetime Achievement. In 2003, "I Can't Stop" was released, the first album produced by Willie Mitchell since 1985, and the first commercially successful work in decades. In 2004, Green was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Also that year, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Green at number 65 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
