Today at Microsoft's "special event", Yusef Mehdi, the tech company’s head of consumer marketing presented a huge next step in its AI evolution - Copilot. It has previously announced Microsoft 365 Copilot, an intelligent assistant that worked across a range of its suite of productivity apps like Word and Excel. This Copilot, as well as the other individual Copilots found in the Windows system and Edge will all simply be known as Copilot. Now, a more general Copilot is going to help you with almost everything else (that you use Windows or Microsoft products for). This new versatile Copilot will be put into action September 26 to all devices that receive the next Windows 11 update. For desktop, you can get this today and start trying it out for yourself. This means Copilot will be on all kinds of devices - PCs, laptops, and tablets. Microsoft is aiming to integrate Copilot into Windows in such a way that feels natural and intuitive to use. It will be a standalone app, as well as function as an assistant in a wide assortment of other Windows apps to assist you with all kinds of tasks. This includes po[CENSORED]r programs like Paint, Snipping Tool, Photos, and more where you can copy and paste right into the program and get to work on it right away. It will also help you figure out what to do with text, whether it can help revise or summarise it. One particularly interesting addition to Microsoft’s available apps which Mehdi talked about is Windows Ink Anywhere which will allow you to handwrite a math problem into a text field or take a photo of it, and help you solve it. Also, if you connect your phone to your Windows device and give it permission to access your phone, Copilot will use that connection to inform its output. Copilot and Bing, both with built-in AI Microsoft’s flagship search engine, Bing, which has seen the integration of ChatGPT tech is also going to work in cooperation with Copilot, for example to help you shop online. You can take a picture and the two tools will help you quickly identify where you can buy it. Bing Image Creator, the AI image generator that anyone can access with a Microsoft account for free, is being upgraded to the DALL-E 3 model. When you ask Bing (and I assume Bing Chat, eventually) a question, the answers you get will be more personalized using your chat history. I think Copilot is going to have to prove itself - Microsoft spent a long time focusing on it during its presentation and it's not a physically flashy product, but it promises a lot. If it's as powerful and as useful as Microsoft says, that could be what makes it the next standard that we measure all AI assistants against (like Word was for text editors or Google is for search now). Time will tell.

Valve intends the Steam Deck to be a "a stable target for a couple of years," said the firm's Pierre-Loup Griffais during an interview with CNBC at the Tokyo Game Show (h/t GamingOnLinux). If we take Griffais' words at face value, we shouldn't expect a Steam Deck 2 handheld to launch until 2025. https://x.com/StreetSignsCNBC/status/1704971310361629080?s=20 The CNBC interview covered a range of topics. Still, the underlying theme of the questions was to assess how Valve feels about its successful Steam Deck today and how it hopes to hold or grow market share in the face of the advances from competitors in the future. On the first question, Griffais referred to the Steam Deck's "special sauce." This largely consists of the intuitive gaming-centric SteamOS and how tightly it is woven with the hardware. Despite its pick-up-and-play UI, Griffais was keen to point out that the underlying OS was capable and flexible for users who wish to delve deeper and customize things. On a similar theme of being positive about SteamOS, Griffais highlighted the recent SteamOS 3.5 update. Indeed, the update has been warmly welcomed by fans of the platform for introducing performance boosts, new display settings (e.g. VRR and HDR), system enhancements, and more. Moving onto the questions about the Steam Deck holding or growing market share, Griffais discussed continuing to build up the device's retail presence and worldwide distribution. CNBC specifically referred to the "console cycle" and whether the Steam Deck will follow this cycle or not. Not surprisingly to us, Griffais ruled out PC-like upgrades to the current Steam Deck. So, yes, it will have to be replaced like a typical home console when gamers, or PC games, outgrow it. At this point, the Valve developer said the performance of the Steam Deck now will remain "a stable target for a couple of years." Lastly, Griffais sought to keep talk of rivalry to a minimum. He was aware of handheld PCs arriving with perhaps better specs but told CNBC that "we are all in this together," which hints at some more hardware/software collaborations coming up. Just because Valve has now effectively ruled out any Steam Deck 2 for a couple of years, it still needs to get fingers in other hardware pies. Earlier this month, spatial computing enthusiast Brad Lynch highlighted that Valve had just put some new hardware through South Korea's radio certification regulators. The "low power wireless device" had a model codename of "1030", and some tech tipsters reckon it is a standalone VR headset… Whatever it might be, nothing like this has yet been revealed at the Tokyo Game Show, which runs until Sunday.

We’ve been hearing a lot about Wi-Fi 7, the next-gen wireless standard, of late, and one of the bits of chatter was worrying – namely that Windows 10 users may not get the benefit of these faster wireless speeds. Fortunately, we can now put paid to any notion that Windows 10 users will be left out in the cold. This episode started a month ago when a leaked Intel document appeared on X (formerly Twitter), courtesy of one of the regular hardware leakers on that platform, and it omitted any mention of Windows 10 support for Wi-Fi 7. It listed support for Windows 11, Linux, and ChromeOS, but that was it. Now, as we commented at the time, that didn’t necessarily mean that Windows 10 won’t support Wi-Fi 7, but it was certainly taken as a hint that the older OS may not, somehow. The good news is that this isn’t the case, and we’ve now had confirmation – albeit an indirect confirmation – from Intel that Windows 10 PCs will be just fine to benefit from Wi-Fi 7. Neowin reports that Intel has now listed a pair of Wi-Fi 7 modules on its official Ark product database – the Intel Wi-Fi 7 BE200 and Wi-Fi 7 BE202 – both of which are marked down as having Windows 11 and Windows 10 support (along with Linux, though ChromeOS is omitted with these product listings, oddly – again, we wouldn’t read too much into that either). Analysis: Minor panic over, thankfully So, if there was any panic for Windows 10 users – and there was a bit, for sure – they can now rest easy that when Wi-Fi 7 comes fully into play, they will be able to enjoy those much, much faster wireless speeds (compared to Wi-Fi 6, it’s in the order of a fivefold speed increase). When will Wi-Fi 7 actually be usable? Well, it’s still relatively early days yet for the standard, and those first Intel modules won’t be in hardware for some time (and you’ll need not just client devices which support Wi-Fi 7, but of course one of the best wireless routers that does, as well). We’re looking at next year for the new wireless standard to be fully formed and certified, with supporting hardware to rollout following that in 2024. There’s plenty to look forward to then, no matter what version of Windows you’re running.

Earlier this week, we learned that Panos Panay, who long led Microsoft's Surface hardware division, will depart the company. The news took us by surprise for several reasons. For starters, Panay has been the face of the Surface brand since its inception and is always on hand to announce new products and talks passionately about the work that goes into each product's development. Secondly, Panay was scheduled to be on stage today at Microsoft's event announcing the next generation of Surface hardware. We later learned that Panay accepted a position at Amazon to lead the team responsible for Echo, Kindle, and Fire hardware, replacing Dave Limp. Today, we're finally learning the impetus for Panay's decision to leave Microsoft courtesy of Business Insider. While the announcement was sudden to those in the tech world, sources close to Panay say he has been plotting a move to Amazon for some time. According to these same sources, Microsoft made "significant cuts" to the budget allotted to the Surface division and canceled next-generation Surface Headphones (the headphones are currently in their second generation). Microsoft is instead shifting some of the funds previously earmarked for Surface to its artificial intelligence endeavors. Panay's extreme attention to detail for the end-to-end process also reportedly ruffled some feathers. While some labeled him a "diva," Panay's overall reputation at the company during his two-decade tenure has been generally well-received. "Thank you, Panos, for your impact on our products, culture, company, and industry over the past two decades," said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in a statement regarding Panay's decision to leave the company. "I'm grateful for your leadership, support, and all you've done for Microsoft and our customers and partners." As the head of the Windows and Surface business at Microsoft, his role will be transferred to Yusuf Mehdi, who served as Corporate VP and Consumer Chief Marketing Officer. Mehdi will be joined by Mikhail Parakhin, Shilpa Ranganathan, and Pavan Davuluri in pushing forward a new era of Windows, hardware, and AI products. It will be interesting to see how Panay's dedication to producing premium customer experiences will translate to his new role as SVP of Devices and Services at Amazon. Amazon's Echo, Fire and Kindle devices are known for providing a lot of bang for the buck, but we doubt many people would call them premium devices.

Musician Name:Larissa Mendes dos Santos Nary Birthday / Location: June 7, 1984 (39 years old) São Paulo, SP Brazilian Brazil Main instrument: Pop country music country music anime songs Musician Picture: Musician Awards & Nominations:- Best Performance: - Other Information: Larissa began her career as a cover girl for Xuxa, doing TV commercials and photos for magazines when she was just three years old as a model. At the age of six, Larissa began her career as a singer, performing the great country music hits of that time, such as Zezé di Camargo and Luciano, Chitãozinho and Xororó, Leandro and Leonardo. At the beginning of 1995, at the age of 10, she, together with Will Kawamura, passed a test at the record company Sony Music to sing songs from the soundtrack of the anime "Os Cavaleiros do Zodiaco", broadcast by the now extinct Rede Manchete. Thus, the duo Larissa & William was formed, who performed several songs from the album that sold more than 1 million copies, earning them Gold, Platinum and Double Platinum Records. With this success, the duo traveled Brazil and participated in TV programs such as Angel Mix, Bom Dia & Cia, Xuxa Hits, Programa Hebe and Programa Livre, where they received the gold record live alongside the duo Sandy and Junior, who also participated in the program. The following year, they recorded the theme CD for Parque Beto Carrero World for Sony, and without the duo - but still as Larissa -, the opening theme for Guerreiras Mágicas de Rayearth. Three years later, Larissa decided to pursue a solo career and released the CD Tudo vai change (1999), all set to an axé rhythm (at a time of great repercussion for the genre in Brazil). His first album, however, was not widely received. In the middle of the last decade (2005/2006), Larissa continued her search for a space in the music scene and, thus, recorded a demo CD in order to promote her work. This demo is today, in a way, considered by fans as a possible second solo album for the singer. Unlike the first album, this album features songs in a romantic pop style, which included a Portuguese version of the song "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" (by singer Shania Twain). This CD was “leaked” on the internet at the time and today fans can enjoy this work. In 2001 Larissa began to be part of Banda On The Rock's, which years later changed its name to Banda Montana, focused on the country segment, remaining for 10 years, having been elected the best country singer on the circuit three times. The band, at first, did covers of international artists of the genre, but, with the public's increasing support, the need for work with a more national color was felt and the band decided to invest in Brazilian versions of the songs and even own compositions. With the po[CENSORED]rity of the university country music rhythm, she left Banda Montana and formed a duo "Larissa & Rafael", which conquered São Paulo and regions with their charisma and musicality. The duo released their first album in 2010 – Vem Voo, and worked on new songs before disbanding. Larissa is currently pursuing a solo career, making her new country CD available for download on her official website. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the release of Knights of the Zodiac in Brazil, together with Edu Falaschi, Ricardo Cruz and Rodrigo Rossi, Larissa participated in the "Knights of the Zodiac - In Concert" tour in 2014 and 2015. In 2017 she is joining a new musical project. She teamed up with 2 Brazilian anime singers Ricardo Cruz and Rodrigo Rossi to form the Brazilian anime song band called Danger3. Together with Danger3 she released the EP Neo Tokyo which has 3 songs in Portuguese inspired by the Japanese manga Akira composed by her and Danger3 which was released this year 2017 on July 13th by the Arte Entretenimento record label by musician and music producer Renato Tribuzy . In 2018, in honor of Jaspion's 30 years in Brazil, she recorded with Ricardo Cruz, Akira Kushida and arranger Lucas Araújo, a medley with songs from the series' soundtrack.

Windows 11’s latest cumulative update has been triggering a whole heap of problems going by a bunch of online reports, including causing havoc for PC gamers in some cases. This is KB5030219, the compulsory update for September that was released last week and piped to Windows 11 22H2 systems. Windows Latest spotted a catalog of reported gremlins in the works with KB5030219, and that includes the update causing Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) crashes. On top of that, readers have reported instances of system slowdown to Windows Latest following the installation of KB5030219, and network connection problems, with internet access apparently failing for some post-installation. There are also reports of PCs failing to start entirely after the update, which is very worrying of course – there’s nothing worse than your system failing to boot after applying an ‘upgrade.’ Another report on Reddit, on the official thread introducing KB5030219, complains about a problem where the Start menu (and search functionality) fails to work for some folks. That Reddit thread contains quite a number of other issues, including various performance problems (like a very slow right-click menu) and tabs in File Explorer disappearing due to KB5030219, as well as some weird audio glitches. Oh, and installation failures, with the update failing to complete in some cases (a continued problem with Windows 11 cumulative updates for some folks). And on top of that, as mentioned, PC gamers have been hit here. Windows Latest highlights some apparent performance glitches with Starfield, and a post on Microsoft’s own Feedback Hub claims the Game Pass version of Starfield is experiencing TDR (timeout detection and recovery) errors and crashes. However, Windows Latest further notes that it’s not sure if these Starfield performance issues could be related to Nvidia’s most recent GeForce driver, or to this Windows 11 cumulative update. One Redditor certainly lays the blame at Microsoft’s door, saying: “It’s definitely a Windows update issue for me because I didn’t update my GeForce driver (I use the studio driver that is still at v536.99) but stupid me did the Windows update and now my PC is exhibiting all kinds of intermittent internet connection problems, lags, slow application startups, etc.” Another Redditor claims: “Yes! I thought it was the new Nvidia driver I had installed at first, but then rolled it back and [the] issue [performance problem in Starfield] was still present. I then uninstalled update KB5030219 and issue was completely gone. Reinstalled the latest Nvidia driver again and it was fine. Not sure what they broke with that Windows update, but I won’t be reinstalling it until it has been addressed.” Other reports from PC gamers include Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart misfiring with crashes and freezes. Analysis: Return of the timeouts (sadly) This is a surprisingly lengthy laundry list of serious issues across the board, really. We expect some rockiness to be experienced with any new patch, true, but this kind of level of apparent chaos is a poor show from Microsoft. The range of the glitches, and the performance hits in many cases – for gaming, and operation within the Windows 11 environment in general – make for a truly worrying state of affairs. What doesn’t help is there’s no admission from Microsoft that there’s anything amiss here, at least not yet. In the supporting bumph for KB5030219, Microsoft simply states that it is “not currently aware of any issues with this update” and leaves it at that. What’s extra disappointing for us here is that TDR errors were resolved in July, with the cumulative update for that month – so to see them apparently making a return already is a bit of a blow, to say the least. Hopefully, Microsoft will be investigating the many outlined issues here, because clearly, something has gone awry with KB5030219 – to see this much disgruntled chatter around an update, and such a wide-ranging set of apparent problems, is definitely concerning.

Rumors emanating from purported Taiwanese supply chain sources are stoking fears that TSMC’s 2nm mass production schedule might be delayed from 2025 to 2026. TechNews.tw reports (h/t TrendForce) that construction at the pivotal Hsinchu Baoshan Fab 20 has “begun to slow down.” It implies the slowdown is due to management seeing “sluggish” demand. Take the rumors with a healthy dose of salt for now. We wrote about TSMC’s 2nm development and implementation plans in mid-August. To recap, the contract semiconductor manufacturing giant is building three new fabs in Taiwan to deliver 2nm output: one in Hsinchu Baoshan, (Taiwan’s Silicon Valley, in the North of the island), one in Taichung Zhongke (Central), and one in Kaohsiung Nanzi (South). The original plans were to run pilot production in 2024, with mass production of 2nm (TSMC N2) products in H2 2025. As highlighted above, TSMC’s Hsinchu plans would seem to be pivotal as this is the heart of its operations, and next to its R&D Center. We mentioned that sluggish demand from TSMC customers might be making the semiconductor manufacturer cautious at continuing apace. The source publication says that TSMC customers appear to be reticent to put in firm orders at this time. This, according to the rumors, might prompt TSMC to slow things down a little and push its first 2nm mass production plans to 2026. Another nagging doubt regarding TSMC’s shift from 3nm class production to 2nm is that it will also transition from FinFET to Gate-All-Around (GAA) transistor architecture. Samsung has already leapt this hurdle for its current 3nm output. Naturally, talk of delays to TSMC 2nm plans have got analysts buzzing over the potential impact in this highly competitive industry. TrendForce made the chart above, and there is also chatter over the potential of a TSMC 2nm schedule change being an opportunity for Samsung. We can’t be sure if the old proverb about smoke and fire rings true here. For a start, it is currently difficult to grasp that there may be “sluggish” demand for an advanced TSMC node with the momentum behind AI technology and so on. Perhaps, it is just a little early for customers to firm up orders for H2 2025. Moreover, TrendForce says that TSMC has responded to the rumors by stating “factory construction is currently progressing according to the planned schedule.”
