  4. Facebook's social media accounts were temporarily taken over by a group of hackers on Friday afternoon. The hacking group OurMine posted on the Twitter and Instagram accounts for Facebook and Messenger, writing "even Facebook is hackable". The accounts have now been restored. OurMine claims its attacks are an attempt to show cyber vulnerabilities. In January it hijacked over a dozen accounts for teams in the US National Football League. The group posted a statement on Facebook's Twitter account. "Hi, we are OurMine. Well, even Facebook is hackable but at least their security is better then Twitter." It also hijacked the Facebook and Messenger accounts on Instagram to post a photo of OurMine's logo. Facebook's own website was not hacked. Twitter confirmed that the hacking occurred via a third-party and that accounts were locked once it was alerted to the issue. "As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we locked the compromised accounts and are working closely with our partners at Facebook to restore them," Twitter said in a statement. Hackers temporarily took over Facebook's accounts on Twitter and Instagram on Friday through a third-party platform, raising concerns about the security of the social networks. Both accounts are back to normal. At around 3:50 p.m., hacker group OurMine tweeted from Facebook's Twitter account. The same group also hijacked the Twitter accounts of more than a dozen NFL teams in January before the SuperBowl and has also hacked the accounts of tech moguls such as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and Google CEO Sundar Pichai."Well, even Facebook is hackable but at least their security better than Twitter," the group said in a tweet that has now been deleted. Hackers also compromised the Twitter account for Facebook's messaging service. Around the same time, the group took over Facebook's Instagram account and posted photos of the group's logo.A Twitter spokeswoman confirmed that Facebook's account was hacked through a third-party platform. "As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we locked the compromised accounts and are working closely with our partners at Facebook to restore them," she said in a statement. Twitter declined to name the third-party platform, but a screenshot of the tweets show that the posts came from social media management tool Khoros. Instagram and Khoros didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. The attack on Facebook seems to have followed a similar hack on teams in the National Football League. The accounts appear to have been accessed via the third-party platform Khoros. Khoros is a marketing platform that businesses can use to manage their social media communications. Typically these platforms manage or have access to the passwords and login details of their customers. Khoros did not respond to a BBC request for comment. OurMine is a Dubai-based hacking group that attacked the accounts of corporations and high-profile individuals in the past. In the past, it has temporality infiltrated the social media account of Twitter's founder Jack Dorsey, Google's chief executive Sundar Pichai, and the corporate accounts of Netflix and ESPN The group claims its attacks are designed to show a lack of security. But it also instructs victims to use its services to improve safeguards.

  7. For a few weeks over late summer in the Northern Hemisphere, the night sky begins to light up with tiny streaks of light. These are meteors from the Perseid meteor shower, which burn brightly as they hurtle through our atmosphere at red-hot speeds. The Perseids reappear on cue once a year, but it's not them who are visiting us — it's our planet's own journey through the solar system that makes this light show so punctual. The Perseid Meteor Shower is named after the constellation Perseus since that's where the meteors appear to originate. But it's not. A constellation, for one thing, isn't actually a single entity that could produce a meteor shower. Constellations are made up of many stars that only look like they're close to each other — one star in Perseus is about 100 light years from us, while another is 750 light years away, for example. Instead, the Perseids are created by the dust and debris left over from Comet Swift-Tuttle. That's right: That beautiful light show is produced by what's essentially a comet's exhaust.Comet Swift-Tuttle is the largest known object to repeatedly pass by Earth, which it does once every 133 years. The last time it passed by the Earth was in 1992, and there are historical records that suggest ancient astronomers saw the same comet as far back as 188 A.D. But the comet doesn't need to be nearby to put on a show. We pass through its debris trail every year in our annual path around the sun. As the tiny pieces of rock and dust leave the vacuum of space and hit the friction of our atmosphere, they travel at 37 miles (59 kilometers) per second: an incredible speed that heats up the surrounding air and turns it red-hot. Most of the meteors burn up before hitting the ground, but some make it through to become meteorites. (Contrary to po[CENSORED]r belief, meteorites aren't hot when they land.) So how can you catch a glimpse of this natural light show when it comes back around? In 2019, astronomers predict that the Northern Hemisphere will see the greatest number of meteors on the nights of August 11, 12, and 13.

  13. Gladius is an addictive tactical turn based 4x which goes in heavy on the warfare and totally neglects the diplomacy aspect of the standard 4x formula. As I have matured as a gamer I have noticed with 4x that often the weakest part of the AI is their ability to negotiate and carry out diplomacy like a human would (The random and emotional choices sometimes made by a human are hard to emulate with AI). This tends to ruin the immersion of the game. To solve this the developers of Gladius have virtually eliminated diplomacy and relied on refining the AI to carry out warfare in a sophisticated manner. This works extremely well as the AI is both competent and clever in how it fights you and the wildlife in Gladius. I have seen the AI attack and withdraw competently and co-ordinate large forces under its control into impressive assaults on the player. The base factions include the Space Marines, Astra Militarum, Orks and Necron with each of these having an extremely unique play style that is fun to learn and take advantage of. For instance the Space Marines can only ever build one city but have fortress drops to capture resources and some extremely powerful units. The Astra Militarum start off weak but their end game is the best and most devastating on Gladius Prime. Each faction has its own unique research tree and as you progress in Gladius you unlock more powerful and versatile infantry, vehicles and hero units. The hero units can then advance their skills and level into powerful end game finishers. Certain resource points can be captured to aid with the economic side of the game with goody huts providing gear that can be equipped onto hero units. The leveling and equipping of these heroes provides for an RPG feel to the strategy. I do feel that this area of the game could be expanded upon but overall it provides an interesting layer to the game. The map is infested with NPC armies and wildlife which you fight to clear land and level up your units. These fight competently and attack and retreat where required. It can take some time to fight your way to the rival factions on the map, by which time you should have leveled up your units significantly. Occasionally you will come across an enemy early on which makes for a tight dogfight. The selection of map size and custom game options allow for the player to create interesting scenarios and challenges. The Multiplayer scene is great and I have regular games with Steam friends, these are easy to make using the Steam forum and Discord server for the game. The multiplayer requires significant time to finish a match, but does add another dimension of enjoyment to the game. The graphics in the game suit the subject matter well and the units are very detailed. Overall the graphics reflect the grim nature of the eternal war of the 40k universe but are not as strong as some other games in the genre. However this does allow you to play on slightly lower spec systems and the game ran at around 40fps on my 950m laptop. I am interested to fire this up on my new gaming rig with all graphic options pushed to maximum. The DLC packs released so far have included both Tyranid and Chaos Space Marines faction pakcs (I have it on good authority that Eldar will be added next). A Unit Reinforcement Pack and the Lord of Skulls, a super NPC that can arrive mid game and devastate factions. All the DLC packs have been excellent and add more layers to the base game. Gladius is one of the the best tactical 4x strategy games out there. On the surface it may look simple with a stripped back 4x approach but it is actually very complex once you dig a bit deeper. Overall the Warhammer 40k theme is presented incredibly well, get it and enjoy it!

  16. Messaging service WhatsApp will no longer work on millions of smartphones from 1 February. Android and iPhone devices which only support outdated operating systems will no longer be able to run the Facebook-owned app. WhatsApp said the move was necessary in order to protect the security of its users. Smartphones using Android 2.3.7 and older, and iPhone iOS 8 or older, are those affected by the update. The operating systems that WhatsApp is dropping support for are legacy operating systems, which are no longer updated or installed on new devices. Most users will simply be able to update their operating systems in order to continue using the messaging service. WhatsApp: Indians among those 'targeted' by spyware Facebook's Sir Nick Clegg criticised over WhatsApp security However, certain devices, such as iPhone 4s, which only support iOS 7, will no longer be compatible with the app. "WhatsApp clearly had no option but to ensure its service remains secure, however it faces the difficult side-effect that the app is no longer compatible with older smartphones," said CCS Insight analyst Ben Wood. "This is likely to disproportionally impact the long-tail of its users, particularly in growth markets where there is a high proportion of older devices." WhatsApp, which was the fourth most-downloaded app of the decade, first warned users that these changes would happen back in 2017. "This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp," said a spokesperson for the company. It is the latest in a series of moves after the messaging app withdrew support for numerous devices in 2016, and then from all Windows phones on 31 December, 2019. WhatsApp regularly stops support for older devices, forcing users to keep up to date if they want to continue using the app. Here are all the dates that WhatsApp stopped working on older phone systems. June 30, 2017 – Nokia Symbian S60 December 31, 2017 – BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 December 31, 2018 – Nokia S40 December 31, 2019 – Windows Mobile February 1, 2020 – iOS 7 and Android 2.3.7 ‘As we look ahead to our next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms the vast majority of people use,’ WhatsApp said to justify why it routinely strips support for older operating systems. ‘While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future. This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp. ‘If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone to continue using WhatsApp.’ Read more: https://metro.co.uk/2020/01/31/will-happen-whatsapp-stops-working-millions-phones-tomorrow-12159061/?ito=cbshare Twitter: https://twitter.com/MetroUK | Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MetroUK/ N
  17. I really, really want to love F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. In many ways, it’s a perfect sequel, taking all the things we loved about F.E.A.R, fixing many of the aspects that we didn’t and adding new features and an extra layer of visual polish to enhance the whole experience. Unfortunately, it’s not the sort of game that inspires such a strong emotional response. It’s a likeable game and frequently enjoyable. It’s a sequel that fans of F.E.A.R. can buy without too much concern. All the same, it’s hard not to feel slightly disappointed. Maybe it’s not Project Origin at fault – maybe it’s us. We’ve been spoilt in the last three plus years by wave after wave of Schwarzenegger-sized first-person-shooters, and when F.E.A.R. 2 wades out it’s a bit more Dolph Lungdren or Jean Claude Van-Damme.If you played F.E.A.R., the elements of the sequel will be instantly familiar. The storyline frames the action of the original game, opening in parallel with the final act of F.E.A.R. then moving on to cover what happens next. As an all new special forces operative, Becket, you find yourself caught in the crossfire between the forces of the evil weapons corporation, Armacham, and the unleashed supernatural powers of its ghostly creation, the spooky Alma. Combat is still the main order of the day, whether Becket is pitted against Armacham troops or Replica soldiers under Alma’s psychic control. Once again the game’s first major selling point is its reliance on a cool slow-motion effect, where Becket can trigger a state of heightened speed and awareness in order to carve his way through enemy squads like an electric knife through a particularly rare Sunday roast. And, as in the first game, these bloody, bullet-time encounters are punctuated by weird, scary episodes full of nightmarish imagery and sudden disruptions to Becket’s vision and environment. Think John Woo’s Hard Boiled meets Hideo Nakata’s Ring and you’re not too far wide of the mark.Project Origin does all this stuff, and arguably it does it better than the original game. The nightmare sequences are more varied and the imagery less directly indebted to Japanese horror, and there are still points at which the game successfully makes the scalp tingle with something like fear. Alma – now in adult form – retains her creepiness, and if anything F.E.A.R. 2 is more skilful in its merging of action and supernatural horror than its predecessor, throwing in new elements that successfully bridge the gap between the two genres. Fast-moving, freakish crawling mutants make for a nice change from the normal armoured troops, as do the ghoulish ‘puppet-master’ creatures who can resurrect nearby corpses and bid them do their deadly will. Most importantly, however, the central game mechanics are just as much fun as they ever were. For a long time F.E.A.R. was my benchmark for FPS combat, for the simple reason that it pitted you against reasonable numbers of believably intelligent enemies who seemed capable of working together, but gave you a vital tool – slowmo – with which you could even the odds. Any F.E.A.R. player will remember the rhythm of the game. First, the recognition that you’re about to face a battle, then the tension as you moved into position. Then came the release, as you triggered the slowmo and began your frenetic dance of bloodshed, blasting one guy here, swivelling to catch another, side-stepping and pivoting to target a third adversary, then leaping over a barrier and twisting to tackle the fourth guy lurking behind it. Then there’d be a moment of controlled panic as you scuttled for cover before the slowmo had worn off, followed by taut suspense as you waited for the slowmo guage to refill. This cycle would repeat until the battle was over, and it was onto the next hostile encounter. Unlike other sites, we thoroughly test every product we review. 18. he small team at Endroad has created a game that, while limited in scope, is a ton of fun to play, has a wonderful post-apocalyptic atmosphere, and is charming. In Fallback you play one of the remaining human survivors that long ago retreated deep beneath the surface due to an apocalyptic event. Unfortunately, robots that were created to serve and maintain the below-ground infrastructure have turned against their creators and either killed or imprisoned them. You now need to take one of the first plants found since the descent and return to the surface. This is our Fallback review. You can tell that the developers have put a lot of effort into their environments as each area looks great and adds to the feel of the post-apocalyptic setting. While the arrangement of how each map interconnects changes after you die and have to pick a new survivor individual area layouts remain the same. At first, I was not sure about this particular design choice, but it allowed me to learn where the various paths forked and what ledges were accessible in each area. It felt great being able to develop muscle memory over different play sessions, eventually knowing reactively where to jump and where the module stations were located in each area. Gameplay consists of you picking a class and starting your trek from the home base each time to explore The Eden. In total there are 3 regions to explore with progressively different and more difficult enemies. For players who are good to excellent at rogue-like games, you may find your total playtime quite short. I managed to complete Fallback in about 10 hours, and I am about an average to good skill level. The gameplay and animations are smooth and responsive. I do highly recommend playing with a gamepad or other console controller though, I tried with the keyboard controls and found it to be a pain and it somewhat ruined the experience initially. You have a few classes to pick from starting, each having a special ability, health rating, and shield rating. As you defeat each of the region bosses another class unlocks that will randomly come up in the random rotation of 3 options after you die. My two favorite classes so far have been the sapper who deals +50% damage on every third attack and the Biochemist who’s attacks do damage over time that ramps up with the number of charges you inflict on the enemy. As you explore each region you will go about freeing prisoners and collecting the resource Vesta from defeated enemies. This is another area where Fallback shines as the character build options are quite robust. As you, free prisoners and subsequently die you can spend skill points to unlock passives that stay without throughout the life of your entire game and not just the short lifespan of one survivor. Beyond that, as you progress through the regions there are module stations located in each area. These stations will have a random set of 3 modules available of different rarities, what is available at a station can be upgraded through passive skills, and you can equip up to seven modules at any one time. The modules can give you abilities like stunning an enemy if you hit them from behind for 2 seconds or regaining health as you collect Vesta. With over 50 different modules and the ability to upgrade their ranks, the player has a myriad of build options to tinker with. My only minor issues with the game are that the total playtime to finish is short, the music could be better but feels appropriate for the game/setting and while repetitive is thankfully low key background fare, and I would like to see some more options/gameplay types to promote replayability. I found Fallback to be challenging, fun, and charming. The game has a great atmosphere and the gameplay is spot on. With so many options for building out your character as you progress through the different regions, I could see players challenging themselves by trying to complete the game using different classes and builds. Combine all this with a price of $9.99 USD on Steam, if you’re a fan of rogue-like post-apocalyptic games I highly recommend supporting the developer by giving Fallback a try.
