235 people were killed and dozens injured in an attack by gunmen on a mosque in a village in northern Sinai, Friday, according to official Egyptian media.
The Egyptian public prosecutor said the death toll had risen to 235, while dozens more were wounded in the latest update.
According to security sources, the victims, including soldiers, but mostly civilians, in the incident occurred in the village of Rawda, about 40 kilometers west of the city of Arish, the center of the province.
The sources added that the attack started with a bomb, followed by shooting.
Our sources explained that the terrorists besieged the mosque with four 4x4 vehicles and shot the worshipers.
Army forces combed the site of the accident and the desert area of the village of Rawda, to tighten the screws on the elements expected to be present to support the perpetrators of the incident.
A security source confirmed the arrival of military reinforcements in the area of Al Rawdah west of the city of Arish, and the closure of the international road Arish Bir al-Abd, to control the bombers.
The security forces also stopped the traffic on the road Arish Qantara, and declare a state of emergency and raise the degree of readiness in the provinces of North Sinai and South Sinai.
The Egyptian security forces are intensifying their efforts to eliminate the armed groups deployed in the Sinai Peninsula, the most dangerous of which is the organization of Ansar al-Maqdis belonging to the Da'ash organization.
Over the past few years, extremists have stepped up their attacks on security forces in the Sinai, and their attacks have spread to other areas in a number of Egyptian governorates.
