Seeing your calendar swamped by meetings should soon be a thing of the past thanks to a new Google Workspace update. The online collaboration suite is introducing a new "Focus time" feature in Google Calendar that will allow users to block out periods of time where they can avoid meetings and get their heads down for actual work. Most importantly, setting such a marker in your Google Calendar will also allow you to automatically decline meetings, meaning no last-minute rush to finish off work or cross off your to do list. Focus time Focus time will be included as a new entry type for Google Calendar, similar to when setting an event or Out of Office marker, giving your co-workers a clear indication that you need some time to concentrate and get some work done. The ability to automatically decline meetings is unticked as a default, so you'll need to make sure it's selected if you truly want some peace. When finalized, the blocked-out time will appear in your Google Calendar with a headphones icon included, showing your contacts exactly how long you need to focus for. Users can alos set a new color for Focus time blocks in order to have a different visibility from your events and other meetings, and any scheduled focus time will also be tracked in your Time Insights. "With the changes to our working environments in the past year, having more chats and meetings make it more difficult for people to carve out time for their core individual work," Google noted in a blog post announcing the update. "With the new focus time feature, we hope to make it easier to create dedicated time for thinking and core work." The feature is rolling out to most Google Workspace users now, and should be arriving to Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Fundamentals, Education Teaching & Learning Upgrade, Education Standard, Education Plus, and Nonprofits customers by the end of October 2021. However it won't be available to Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Enterprise Essentials, and Frontline and as well as G Suite Basic and Business customers. The launch is the latest in a list of Google Calendar features as the company looks to help workers re-adjust to office life. It recently announced an integration with Google Chat that will mean calendar markers now give users the option to quickly message other attendees in the run-up to a meeting, provided they work for the same organization. You can also check out our pick of the best hybrid working tech - everything you need for the return to the office.

Samsung Galaxy A03 has allegedly been spotted with a Wi-Fi Alliance certification, hinting that the launch of the smartphone may not be far off. The certification for the model SM-A032F/DS doesn't divulge much information but a previous report suggests that the Galaxy A03 will be powered by a Unisoc SC9836A SoC paired with 2GB of RAM. The smartphone is said to pack a 5,000mAh battery and it is said to get a 3GB RAM variant as well, similar to its predecessor Samsung Galaxy A02. As mentioned, Samsung Galaxy A03 is thought to have been spotted on the Wi-Fi Alliance certification website, with model number SM-A032F/DS. The certification was spotted by 91Mobiles. Not much information about the Samsung smartphone is revealed from the certification. However, it does mention that the upcoming smartphone will be getting a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band with 802.11 b/g/n and Wi-Fi Direct. Furthemore, the certification also mentions that the SM-A032F/DS will run Android 11 out-of-the-box. Last month, Samsung Galaxy A03 was spotted in US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Geekbench listing. The US FCC listings mention that the upcoming smartphone will pack a 5,000mAh battery. The listing also mentions the smartphone's network connectivity options and there's no mention of 5G connectivity. The model number on the US FCC listing is SM-A032M, while on Geekbench it is listed with SM-A032F — hinting at the existence of multiple models. The Geekbench listing mentions that the Galaxy A03 will be powered by a Unisoc SC9836A SoC paired with 2GB of RAM. Similar to its predecessor — Galaxy A02 — the smartphone is speculated to get a 3GB RAM variant. The Geekbench listing also mentions that it will run Android 11. Further information on specifications of the Galaxy A03 are unavailable as of now. The smartphone is speculated to launch sometime later this year.

It looks like Intel isn't the only one with a processor that supports DDR5 memory. A new UserBenchmark submission (courtesy of Benchleaks) reveals that AMD isn't far behind from embracing the new wave of DDR5 memory kits. AMD's Ryzen 6000 (reportedly codenamed Rembrandt) is expected to carry Zen 3+ cores that are complemented by Navi 2 (RDNA 2) graphics. From a processing perspective, the chips should retain the same core count as the Ryzen 5000 (Cezanne) series, but feature improved clock speeds. Rembrandt plays a very important role in AMD's future lineup as the APUs are rumored to be the first parts to leverage Navi 2 graphics as well as support for DDR5 memory. The user ran the benchmark on Corsair's Xenomorph device, which could be an upcoming mini-PC from the manufacturer unless the company plans to venture into the gaming laptop market. UserBenchmark also specified the FP7 socket that should be the new platform for the Ryzen 6000 series. The Ryzen 6000 processor from the UserBenchmark entry lacks a name so we'll have to refer to it by its 100-000000518-41_N OPN code for now. But if we have to speculate, it could be the Ryzen 7 6800H or Ryzen 9 6900HS/HX. UserBenchmark detected the unreleased AMD chip with an eight-core and 16-thread configuration after all. According to the report, the Zen 3+ APU sports a 3.1 GHz base clock and 3.9 GHz boost clock, but the OPN code points to 4.1 GHz. The processor is probably an engineering sample so the final specifications can vary. Remember to take the benchmark results with a truckload of salt since UserBenchmark isn't known for being a biased benchmark tool. Additionally, the Ryzen 6000 is a single submission, while the scores from the other processors in the comparison are averaged results from different users. AMD Ryzen 6000 CPU Benchmarks The Ryzen 7 5800H (Cezanne) outperformed the mysterious Ryzen 6000 processor by up to 19% in the single-core test and up to 18% in the octa-core test. The Ryzen 6000's low scores can be explained by the possibility of the chip being an early engineering sample or the fact that it was paired with single stick of DDR5-4800 C40 SO-DIMM memory module so dual-channel operation wasn't enabled. The latter also contributed to the higher memory latency on the Ryzen 6000 processor. The Ryzen 7 5800H configuration showed 13% lower memory latency in comparison to the Ryzen 6000 chip. Apparently, the Core i7-11800H (Tiger Lake) is superior to the Ryzen 6000 sample. The Intel chip's single-and octa-core scores were 45% and 34% higher than the Zen 3+ APU, respectively. However, the Core i7-11800H did have 3% higher memory latency. AMD Ryzen 6000 iGPU Benchmarks On the graphics end, the Ryzen 6000 APU appeared with a RDNA 2 iGPU (1CFA 0004) with 512MB of shared memory. It's a shame that the software couldn't pick up the number of compute units or their clock speeds. The RDNA 2 iGPU surpassed Intel's Iris Xe DG1 in the lighting, reflection and gravity tests by 25%, 382% and 7%, respectively. However, the Iris Xe DG1 beat the RDNA 2 iGPU in the MRender benchmark by a 201% margin. It would seem that the MRender is the only workload that gave the RDNA 2 iGPU a hard time. Nvidia's GeForce MX350 put up a 78% higher MRender score than the RDNA 2 iGPU. However, the latter destroyed the GeForce MX350 by 19% in the lighting test, 392% in the reflection test and 39% in the gravity test. According to a previously leaked roadmap, Ryzen 6000 is allegedly scheduled for a 2022 debut. If the rumors around the hardware circles are true, Ryzen 6000 should already be in mass production with a potential launch for the first half of next year.

U.S. federal security bodies have published a joint advisory for cybersecurity experts, warning of the inevitability of a slew of new ransomware attacks from black hat hacking group BlackMatter - itself born from the ashes of the infamous DarkSide group. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the National Security Agency (NSA) are the three agencies involved in the joint advisory, which follows months of scrutiny and investigation surrounding the black hat hacker group. The agencies consider the signs of impending activity to be strong enough that they felt the urge to recommend that businesses bolster their cybersecurity defenses - particularly those tied to user credentials, password security, and multi-factor authentication (MFA). BlackMatter stands as the result of a regrouping of members previously involved with DarkSide, the infamous hacker group that shuttered operations in May of this year. BlackMatter, like the Desorden hacking group (who have recently attacked Acer), seems to favor attacks on supply-chain players, escalating the repercussions and chaos of their attacks through multiple endpoints. Since it started operating under the new name, BlackMatter has already attacked numerous U.S. critical infrastructure organizations including two U.S. Food and Agriculture Sector cooperatives, as well as private companies such as Olympus. As has increasingly become the trend ever since their inception, cryptocurrencies are a part of the ransomware workflow: "Ransomware attacks against critical infrastructure entities could directly affect consumer access to critical infrastructure services,” the advisory reads. “BlackMatter actors have attacked numerous U.S.-based organizations and have demanded ransom payments ranging from $80,000 to $15,000,000 in Bitcoin and Monero.” The advisory goes further into details on BlackMatter's ransomware operationalization, which is where cybersecurity considerations for potential targets have been derived from. Deploying a sample of BlackMatter's ransomware in a secure, investigative environment, the agencies underline the sophistication of BlackMatter's approach, which allows them to attack both Windows and Linux environments, and even ESXi-based virtual machines - effectively covering all but the more exotic bases of information security. The joint advisory also sheds light on the destructive approach taken by BlackMatter on ensuring the maximum impact of their ransomware: “Rather than encrypting backup systems, BlackMatter actors wipe or reformat backup data stores and appliances,” reads the advisory. BlackMatter hackers “use system and network discovery techniques for network and system visibility and mapping,” according to the advisory. “To limit an adversary from learning the organization’s enterprise environment, limit common system and network discovery techniques.” Suggestions to mitigate vulnerabilities include segmentation of networks (instead of the centralized network approach that has been historically favored for ease of use and control capabilities), as well as the deployment and operation of network monitoring tools so as to identify the network traversal of ransomware. The agencies further provided detection signatures for BlackMatter so that cybersecurity specialists can pre-emptively investigate traces of the group's ransomware on their managed systems.

Apple at its ‘Unleashed' event on Monday launched the new MacBook Pro models that are based on the company's new silicon called the all-new M1 Pro and M1 Max. The much-awaited MacBook Pro series offers 14- and 16-inch display options and comes as the biggest update to the lineup in five years since the existing design was introduced back in October 2016. The new Apple silicon powering the MacBook Pro (2021) series is claimed to deliver up to 3.7 times faster performance over Intel's Core i7 available on the existing 13-inch MacBook Pro. The new M1 Pro and M1 Max come as upgrades to the M1 chip that the Cupertino company introduced last year. Apple MacBook Pro (2021) price in India, availability details The 14-inch Apple MacBook Pro (2021) price starts at Rs. 1,94,900. It is also available for education at Rs. 1,75,410. The 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro (2021) model, on the other hand, starts at Rs. 2,39,900 for regular customers and Rs. 2,15,910 for education. In the US, the 14-inch Apple MacBook Pro (2021) starts at $1,999 (roughly Rs. 1,50,400), while the 16-inch version is priced at $2,499 (roughly Rs. 1,88,100). The new MacBook Pro models will be available for orders starting Monday through the Apple India Online Store and will go on sale from Tuesday, October 26. Customers will also have configure-to-order options available through the Apple site. In 2019, Apple brought its last-generation MacBook Pro 16-inch model at a starting price of Rs. 1,99,000 ($2,399 in the US). The new 14-inch model, on the other hand, arrives as a replacement for the higher-end 13-inch MacBook Pro that was launched with the M1 chip last year. Apple MacBook Pro (2021) specifications The Apple MacBook Pro (2021) models in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes come with an all-new design that forgoes the unimportant Touch Bar and brings back an SDXC card slot as well as an HDMI port. The other major change on the designing front is the additional of a notch that is to help reduce bezels and provide more screen real estate to users — alongside offering a 1080p FaceTime webcam. Apple has, however, not provided Face ID, which is unlike its top-end iPhone models that have a notch to accommodate the facial recognition technology. Apple claims that while the 14-inch MacBook Pro model gives 14.2-inch active area with a total of 5.9 million pixels, the 16-inch variant has 16.2-inch area with 7.7 million pixels. There is also a Liquid Retina XDR display under the hood that uses the mini-LED technology — previously available on the iPad Pro. The new display technology is claimed to deliver up to 1,000 nits of full-screen brightness, 1,600 nits of peak brightness, and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. There is also an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz using Apple's proprietary ProMotion technology. For power users, the display on the new MacBook Pro models is claimed to have P3 wide colour gamut, HDR support, and XDR output. Alongside the design-level changes and the upgraded display technology, the MacBook Pro (2021) series is powered by the upgraded silicon that comes in two distinct versions — M1 Pro and M1 Max. The M1 Pro chip includes up to 10-core CPU with eight high-performance cores and two low-performance cores, along with up to 16-core GPU. Apple claims that the new chip is capable of delivering 70 percent faster CPU performance and up to two times faster GPU performance over the existing M1 chip. The M1 Pro also includes a ProRes accelerator in the media engine to enhance on-device video processing. The M1 Max, on the other hand, is claimed to be the world's most powerful chip for a pro notebook. It has the same 10-core CPU as M1 Pro, but doubles the GPU with up to 32 cores for up to four times faster GPU performance than M1. There is also up to 400GB per second of memory bandwidth, which is two times that of M1 Pro and nearly six times that of M1. Apple has also provided up to 64GB of unified memory to attract professionals and 3D artists. To recall, last year's M1 chip came with four high-performance and four low-performance cores as well as included up to eight graphics cores. Apple claims that using its new M1 Max chip, pros can edit up to 30 streams of 4K ProRes video or up to seven streams of 8K ProRes video in Final Cut Pro — more streams than on a 28-core Mac Pro with Afterburner. Both M1 Pro and M1 are also paired with a 16-core Neural Engine that helps enhance machine learning capabilities on the new MacBook Pro models. As per some numbers shared publicly, the built-in Neural Engine delivers up to 8.7 times faster object tracking performance in Final Cut Pro with M1 Pro and up to 11.5 times faster with M1 Max. There is also up to 2.6 times faster performance when selecting subjects in images in Adobe Photoshop. The MacBook Pro (2021) models also come with a Magic Keyboard that replaces the earlier Touch Bar with physical function keys and a wider escape key. You will also get the Force Touch trackpad. Apple has offered its macOS Monterey out-of-the-box on the new MacBook Pro models. The new operating system is optimised for the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, the company said. The new macOS version will also be available for older machines as a free software update on Monday, October 25. The MacBook Pro (2021) models also bring back the earlier MagSafe magnetic charging support, with MagSafe 3. This is unlike the existing MacBook Pro models that offer charging via USB-C. However, users can still use Thunderbolt 4 for charging using a USB Type-C cable. Connectivity options on the new MacBook Pro include Bluetooth v5.0 and Wi-Fi 6. Users can also connect up to three Pro Display XDRs and a 4K TV simultaneously on the MacBook Pro based on M1 Max. The M1 Pro chip, on the other hand, supports up to two Pro Display XDRs at once. The new MacBook Pro models also include a six-speaker sound system that has two tweeters and four force-cancelling woofers. There is also Dolby Atmos and spatial audio support for a surround sound experience while on-the-go. As the MacBook Pro (2021) models are designed for faster performance, Apple has provided a better thermal management on the new machines. The company claims that there is an advanced thermal system that can move 50 percent more air than the previous generation, even at lower fan speeds. On the battery life front, the 14-inch MacBook Pro (2021) is rated to deliver up to 17 hours of video playback on a single charge, while its 16-inch counterpart delivers up to 21 hours of video playback. Apple asserts that using the new MacBook Pro models, developers working in Xcode will be able to compile up to four times as much code and photographers on the go will get up to two times longer battery life in Adobe Lightroom Classic when editing image.

Xero has announced a reimagined version of its employee self-service app Xero Me which now comes with integrated expenses technology to make it easier for both organizations and their employees to track their expenses. By integrating the company's Xero Expenses technology into Xero Me, small business employees using Xero Payroll in Australia, New Zealand and the UK will now be able to submit expense claims in the same place they access payslips, submit timesheets and manage leave requests. We've built a list of the best tax software available today These are the best HR software solutions on the market Also check out the best accounting software for small business Executive general manager of business products at Xero, Simona Turin explained how the company's reimagined Xero Me app can benefit both small business owners and their employees in a press release, saying: “Processes like onboarding, leave and expense management are time-consuming but critical to the optimal performance of any small business. The Xero platform is designed to make life easier for small business owners — so we wanted to give them and their staff an even easier way to manage those fundamental employee processes.” Xero Me The Xero Me app is quickly becoming the central place for employees to manage critical people processes themselves and Xero plans to add even more functionality into the app going forward. The reimagined app removes the need for employees to switch between multiple apps, systems and workflows for critical employee processes while creating a more seamless employee experience. Additionally, employers can ensure data is easily entered and stored in a single place. The new Xero Me experience is rolling out in stages to all of Xero's global customers. In countries outside of Australia, New Zealand and the UK, this will be with Expenses-only functionality. This will still allow global employees to use the app to quickly submit expense claims though Xero Me will soon offer the ability to complete self-service setup for expense management. Beginning this month, existing Xero Expenses app uses globally with a “Submitter” role will be able to download and transition to the reimagined Xero Me app to submit their expense claims. However, global Xero Expenses approvers and admins will still need to use the standalone Xero Expenses app to check and approve any claims. We've also rounded up the best hybrid working tech

Just hours after Apple announced its new MacBook Pros featuring M1 Pro and M1 Max CPUs, the first benchmarks showed up online this afternoon. As is typically the case for unreleased products, the benchmarks appeared in the Geekbench database. According to the result, this is a 10-core M1X Pro with 32GB of on-package memory. The M1 Max managed to post a single-core score of 1,749 and a multi-core score of 11,542. To put those numbers in perspective, the 13-inch MacBook Pro (M1) that we tested late last year delivered single- and multi-core scores of 1,733 and 7,584, respectively. The single-score score is not exactly earth-shattering, and the multi-core scores seem suspect as well, given that the number of performance cores doubled from four to eight compared to the M1. We must say that we're a little disappointed that there isn't a larger jump in performance, especially given the price tag of the M1 Max-equipped MacBook Pros. A 13-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,299, while the "cheapest" 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M1 Max (10-core GPU, 32-core GPU) costs $3,099. However, there are a few caveats to mention regarding the stated performance numbers. For starters, the benchmarks were run on a pre-release version of macOS Monterey (21E140a), and the CPU reports a base clock of 24MHz. That last point could be attributed to Geekbench not correctly identifying the clock speed of the new M1 Max. The first all-new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros will ship on October 25th, which means that we're bound to see even more benchmark results appear during the next week. We'll also be eager to see real-world GPU performance of the M1 Pro and M1 Max, as this is where Apple has promised some significant gains in performance compared to previous generations (and Intel-based competitors).
