  4. Facebook's rebranding to Meta Platforms has launched a search for a new name for the high-flying FAANG group that also includes Apple, Amazon, Netflix, and Alphabet. Facebook on Thursday announced it is now called Meta Platforms as the social media company shifts to building the ambitious "metaverse", a shared virtual environment. The name change comes after a damaging whistleblower report and criticism from lawmakers and regulators over its market power. The most po[CENSORED]r suggestion on Twitter for the tech-related heavyweight group was MAANG — where FAANG's "F" is replaced with "M". Some users also rearranged the letters to MANGA, referring to Japanese comic books. The elite FAANG stocks have a combined market capitalization of about $7.416 trillion (roughly Rs. 5,55,67,013 crore) so far this year, up from about $5.8 trillion (roughly Rs. 4,34,58,556 crore) last year. Several Twitter users also proposed to reshuffle the group to add Microsoft — which is competing with Apple for the most valuable US-listed company — as well as Tesla, which joined the elite trillion-dollar market value club just this week. With the reshuffle, some users came up with MAMATA — that would drop Netflix, which has the smallest market cap compared with the rest of the group at $299 billion (roughly Rs. 22,40,611 crore), and use an "A" for Alphabet, whose search engine Google gave the FAANGs their "G". MAMATA — consisting of Microsoft, Apple, Meta, Amazon, Tesla and Alphabet — have a combined market cap of about $10 trillion (roughly Rs. 7,49,36,849 crore). They make up a quarter of the S&P 500's weight, compared with the legacy FAANG group's nearly 20 percent. "These handful of stocks (FAANG) have reigned for quite some time, and it may be with the beginning of taper, rates slowly rising and inflation... that these tech long duration assets may become less valuable," said Tom Hayes, managing member at Great Hill Capital in New York. Shares of Meta Platforms rose about 2 percent in early trading and will get a new ticker, MVRS, on December 1.
  5. It has been less than a week since the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W debuted and makers have already begun to use the new board in exciting projects. Today we’re sharing a Pi Zero 2 W project created by Clemens with Elektor TV, part of Elektor Magazine, who is using the new module to power a YouTube subscriber counter. The Pi is connected to an 8-digit MAX7219-based 7-segment display which outputs the current subscriber count for a given YouTube channel in real-time. It also doubles as a clock for a little extra functionality. According to Clemens, the Pi Zero 2 W uses a script to access the YouTube API and retrieve subscriber data to output the current subscriber count to the display. To keep the project user-friendly, this script is programmed to automatically run on boot so no terminal access or external display is necessary to get it up and running. The 7-segment display is soldered to the Pi Zero 2 W and housed inside a small case. The best Raspberry Pi projects are ones you can make at home and this is one of them as Clemens has provided a complete tutorial on how to recreate this project over at YouTube. It includes a wiring diagram for the display as well as steps for installing the necessary libraries to get the display to operate with the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. To see this project in action and get a closer look at the assembly process, check out Elektor TV at YouTube and keep an eye on them for more cool projects

  11. Redmi Note 11 Pro and Redmi Note 11 Pro+ will reportedly launch in India as Xiaomi-branded smartphones. There is no mention about the rebranding of the vanilla Redmi Note 11 5G. Furthermore, there is no information as of now about the launch date of these smartphones in India. The two smartphones were launched in China earlier this week along with the Redmi Note 11 5G. The Redmi Note 11 series is powered by MediaTek chipsets paired with up to 8GB of RAM. All three smartphones are also IP53 rated for dust- and water-resistance. As per tipster Kacper Skrzypek (@kacskrz), Redmi Note 11 Pro will launch in India as the Xiaomi 11i, while the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ will come to India as the Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge. The tipster also mentions that the Redmi smartphones won't be rebranded for the Global markets. However, the vanilla Redmi Note 11 5G was missing from the tweet, hinting that the smartphone may launch as a Redmi smartphone or may not launch in India altogether. Since this information is not confirmed by Xiaomi, it should be taken with a pinch of salt. A previous report suggests that the Redmi Note 11 5G may be rebranded as Poco M4 Pro 5G on November 9. Redmi Note 11 series price The Redmi Note 11 series was launched in China on October 28 with three models — Redmi Note 11 5G, Redmi Note 11 Pro, and Redmi Note 11 Pro+. The price for the vanilla Redmi Note 11 5G starts at CNY 1,299 (roughly Rs. 15,200), the Redmi Note 11 Pro starts at CNY 1,599 (roughly Rs. 18,700), and the price of the premium Redmi Note 11 Pro+ begins at CNY 1,899 (roughly Rs. 22,200). Redmi Note 11 5G specifications The Redmi Note 11 5G is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 810 SoC paired with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage. It sports a 6.6-inch full-HD display with a 90Hz refresh rate and its dual rear camera setup has 50-megapixel and 8-megapixel sensors. It also gets a 16-megapixel selfie camera. Redmi Note 11 Pro, Redmi Note 11 Pro+ specifications Redmi Note 11 Pro and Redmi Note 11 Pro+ get similar specifications barring the battery capacity and the charging speeds. The former packs a 5,000mAh battery with 67W fast charging support. The latter, on the other hand, has a 4,500mAh battery with 120W fast charging support. Both sport a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and are powered by MediaTek Dimensity 920 SoC paired with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage. For optics, both get a triple rear camera setup headlined by a 108-megapixel primary sensor.
  12. ASRock recently revealed its Z690 motherboards for the latest 12th Generation Alder Lake processors from Intel. As spotted by hardware detective momomo_us, ASRock cooperated with Razer on the Z690 Taichi Razer Edition, which was missing from the motherboard vendor's announced lineup. Ther Z690 Taichi Razer Edition marks the third time that ASRock and Razer have gotten together. The two companies previously worked on the B550 Taichi Razer Edition and X570 Taichi Razer Edition, so it was only fitting to give the Z690 Taichi the same attention. On a hardware level, the Z690 Taichi Razer Edition should be identical to the vanilla Z690 Taichi. The difference resides in the Razer Chroma-inspired aesthetics. It's easy to see that ASRock has revamped the passive heatsinks on the motherboard to blend into Razer's ecosystem. Obviously, the Z690 Taichi Razer Edition comes with full Razer Chroma support right out of the box. Assuming that there are no surprises under the hood, the Z690 Taichi Razer Edition should sport the same 20-phase power delivery subsystem on an eight-layer PCB with 105A SPS (smart power stages) and premium 90A power chokes. In addition, the motherboard comes with two 8-pin EPS power connectors to ensure your Alder Lake chip gets enough juice during your overclocking journey. In terms of memory support, the motherboard has four DDR5 memory slots, offering support for DDR5-6400+ memory modules, XMP 3.0 and up to 128GB of memory. The Z690 Taichi Razer Edition has plenty of storage options. You get six standard SATA III ports and three M.2 2280 slots where two are PCIe 4.0 x4 and the remaining one conforming to SATA III speeds. RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5 and RAID 10 are supported on the SATA ports, while only RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 5 are doable on the M.2 slots. As for expansion slots, the motherboard features three PCIe 5.0 x16 expansion slots and one PCIe 3.0 x1 expansion slot. Due to the bandwidth limitation on Alder Lake processors, the PCIe 16 slots function differently, depending on how many PCIe devices you have on the motherboard. For example, the primary expansion slot runs at PCIe 5.0 x16 with a single graphics card, while two will drop both expansion slots to PCIe 5.0 x8. With a third device installed, the expansion slots operate at PCIe 5.0 x8, PCIe 5.0 x8 and PCIe 4.0 x4. The Z690 Taichi Razer Edition has one HDMI 2.1 port and two Intel Thunderbolt 4 ports if you plan to use Alder Lake's iGPU. Gigabit Ethernet support comes from Intel's I219V controller, while 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet is possible thanks to Killer's E3100G. If you prefer wireless, the motherboard also offers Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth connectivity. The audio codec on the Z690 Taichi Razer Edition is based on Realtek's ALC1220 solution and boasts 7.1-channel HD audio. The audio system also leverages an ESS Sabre ES9218 DAC and gold-plated audio jacks. In addition, there are five 3.5mm audio connectors with LED lighting and one optical S/PDIF output. The motherboard isn't short on connectivity, either. The rear panel has two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, four USB 4.0 Thunderbolt 4 Type-C ports and four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports. Additional USB ports are available through the internal headers, including two USB 2.0 headers, one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A connector, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 headers and a front-panel USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C header. Scan, a retailer in the U.K., has listed the Z690 Taichi Razer Edition for £559.99 (~$766.359). For comparison, the shop has the regular Z690 Taichi up for £539.99 (~$738.98); therefore, the Razer Edition seems to carry a slight 3.7% premium.

  20. Microsoft and Google are two of the biggest technology companies around - so it’s hardly surprising that both have entered the video conferencing space. Microsoft Teams is the offering from the Redmond-based firm, while Google Meet is the solution developed by the firm originally known for its search engine services. Not too long ago, the communication and collaboration field was a more gentle environment, one in which many different services could happily co-exist. However, since the Covid-19 pandemic made face-to-face interaction more challenging, more and more organizations have been forced to rely on digital solutions. As such, competition between services has ramped up significantly. The good news is that both Microsoft Teams and Google Meet represent good examples within the video conferencing field. However, with their respective developers adding new features all the time, this is a dynamic ecosystem. For businesses and individuals looking to weigh up the respective merits of each solution, there are many things to consider. In the following guide, we’ve collected all the information you need to decide whether Microsoft Teams or Google Meet is right for your business, comparing plans and pricing, features, security, and more. Plans and pricing Both Microsoft Teams and Google Meet are pretty generous when it comes to their free plans. Both allow you to use basic versions of each platform for an unlimited time and that will probably be sufficient for individuals that simply want to video call friends or family from time or time, or even sole traders that have infrequent video conferences. For larger companies, however, the limitations that are built into the free versions of both Teams and Meet may feel a little restrictive. For example, the free version of both platforms only allows for up to 100 participants in a meeting at any one time. While this may sound like a lot, it basically rules out company-wide meetings for medium and larger organizations. Teams Microsoft Teams' pricing structure is tied into the company's Microsoft 365 plans. Microsoft 365 Business Basic, for example, is priced at $5.00/£3.80/AU$6.90 per user per month and comes with 1TB of OneDrive storage as well as access to Teams. Microsoft 365 Business Standard, meanwhile, is priced at $12.50/£9.40/AU$17.20 per user per month and also comes with desktop versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. While Microsoft 365 Premium adds additional features for $20.00/£15.10/AU$27.50 per user per month. In particular, the ability to add up to 10,000 participants to a meeting with Microsoft 365 Premium is likely to appeal to large enterprises. However, even Microsoft 365 Business Basic increases the time limit from 60 minutes to 24 hours, which saves firms from the embarrassment of having to abruptly finish a call because they are using the free version. Google Meet Similar to Microsoft Teams, Google Meet is only offered for free as a standalone version but users can opt to pay for Google Workspace, which will provide additional Meet functionality and grant access to other Google tools. Google Workspace Standard costs $6 per user per month and increases the number of licences that businesses can use to 300. Google Workspace Standard, meanwhile, costs $12 per user per month and raises the allowed number of meeting participants from 100 to 150, while Google Workspace Plus, which costs $18 per user per month, takes this figure up to 250. The Enterprise version is priced on a bespoke basis, but adds noise cancelling features and enhanced support. Features For any business choosing to pay for Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace packages, the most useful feature will certainly be integration with other applications. In terms of core features, however, there isn’t much to separate Meet and Teams. Some of Google Meet’s features include an audio and video preview screen, screen sharing, meeting host controls, and live captioning during meetings. In addition, users can access customizable backgrounds and connection quality adjustments that leverage AI capabilities. Microsoft Teams features, on the other hand, also include screen sharing and customizable backgrounds, but the option of more than 250 app integrations probably means that most businesses will get more from using Teams than they would Google Meet. It just seems to offer more collaboration potential. Security For paid users, Google Meets offers complex meeting IDs that add extra protection against brute-force hacking attempts. Teams, meanwhile, offers fantastic security for businesses to employ internally. For example, team owners have a granular level of control, where they can act as administrators and restrict the actions of other users. Considering most data leaks occur because of the actions of internal staff, this feature is a welcome addition. Support While Microsoft Teams and Google Meet both offer all the usual channels for customer support, there are a couple of small differences. Teams certainly has a great community of support around it, mainly comprising other users who are happy to lend a helping hand whenever you encounter issues. Conversely, Meet offers video tutorials and a free online course for users. If you prefer to self-learn, this is a great advantage of Google Meet. Verdict Deciding whether Google Meet or Microsoft Teams is your best bet will likely depend on the size of your organization. If you’re a sole trader or small business, the simplicity of Google Meet will be difficult to improve upon. However, if you’re a larger company in need of more advanced collaboration features, or you already extensively use Microsoft 365, you’ll be better off going with Microsoft Teams.
  21. Monoprice just announced a new Dark Matter-branded monitor aimed at gamers, and it’s available to purchase today for $399.99 in the United States. The latest Dark Matter monitor features a 32-inch 2560 x 1440 (QHD) IPS panel and a low-profile design with thin display bezels all around. Naturally, we're eager to see if it can join the ranks of the best gaming monitors. The Dark Matter 32-incher boasts a relatively fast 165 Hz refresh rate for PC gamers, while Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 gamers can expect to see up to 120 Hz refresh rates over an HDMI 2.0 connection. In addition, Monoprice says that the monitor supports Adaptive-Sync technology to help reduce screen tearing while gaming. We’d imagine that the company has gone with some form of AMD FreeSync in this case (although it, unfortunately, didn’t specify). Monoprice 32-inch Dark Matter Specs Monoprice lists the response time at 1 ms, contrast ratio of 1,200:1 and a maximum brightness of 300cd/m2. These specs are competitive with other 32-inch gaming monitors in this space, and our reviews of Monoprice’s previous Dark Matter monitors (27-inch 240Hz IPS, 27-inch 165 Hz IGZO) have shown them to be value-leaders with admirable performance. With that said, this is a no-frills gaming monitor, so you won’t find RGB lighting flourishes, an integrated headphone stand, or even USB connectivity. Instead, you’ll find the basics like dual HDMI 2.0 ports, dual DisplayPort 1.2 ports, and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the back of the display. Also located on the back of the display is a 5-way joystick for navigating the OSD. You’ll also find a height-adjustable and tilt-capable stand when you place the unit on your desk while viewing angles are typical at 178 degrees for horizontal and vertical. There’s also a 100 x 100 VESA mounting pattern for wall mounting. Monoprice says that the Dark Matter 32-inch monitor comes with an A+ grade panel and is backed by its 1-year PixelPerfect warranty (meaning that if you find any dead pixels in the display within one year, Monoprice will replace the monitor). You can purchase the monitor directly from Monoprice right now for $399.99.
