  1. A man identified as José Carlos M. M. was allegedly videotaped in late 2019 when he descended from a vehicle to shoot at close range against a man riding inside a Ford F-150 truck. The authorities managed to arrest him in flagrance months later for the alleged possession of drugs, but they did not suspect that a complaint against him was coming from the least intended person. José Carlos M. M's mother saw a video that went viral on social networks and television, where the accomplices of an alleged hitman record the moment when a young man descends from the car to shoot another driver. After gunning the man with a firearm, the young man returns running to the unit and they flee from the place in the opposite direction to the one that circulated in the first instance. Although the young man was already arrested for other accusations, he did not have an arrest warrant. It was his mother who went to the appropriate authorities to announce that his son is the supposed young man who fires a gun in the video. As of the publication of said recording, allegedly disclosed by the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP), according to the Zócalo Group, the family of the alleged culprit was harassed through social networks, including the address where they live. The pressure helped the mother to go to the North Zone Prosecutor in January 2020 to file a complaint and recognize her son as the alleged shooter so that he could be linked to the process. His mother said that one of his biggest fears was to endanger the younger brothers of José Carlos M.M. Upon making his residence known. It was not specified whether they received direct threats from any criminal group or if it was the same users of social networks who threatened reprisals if the complaint was not materialized. José Carlos M. M. would have been recognized by his mother through voice and clothing, in addition to the warnings that other relatives or neighbors gave him after showing him the video. “You saw your son”, they repeated when they played the recording from their mobile devices. Following the complaint, the arrest warrant was made at the Social Readaptation Center (CERESO) number 3 of Ciudad Juárez. The suspect had already been arrested on charges of drug possession. José Carlos was arrested by elements of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat (SSPM). Upon being available to the Public Prosecutor's Office and following his mother's complaint, the alleged shooter requested the arrest warrant immediately. Now the 18-year-old faces several years in prison, linked to criminal proceedings for aggravated homicide. The events occurred on December 22, 2019 at the intersection of Juan Pablo II and Francisco Villarreal in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. The murdered man was Juan Carlos Talamantes, 20, who had no relationship with his murderer. According to the representatives of the Prosecutor's Office, who read the statement of José Carlos M. M., third parties ordered the execution as a kind of debut within a criminal organization, Zócalo media reported.

  4. The US government announced that it will expand the fishing embargo against Mexico because effective strategies have not been implemented to curb the deaths of marine vaquitas perpetrated by illegal networks. Through a statement, the National Fisheries Service (NMFS) increased shrimp, sardine, chano, sierra, herring, mackerel, anchovies and curvina to the ban that has been applied to Mexican territory since 2018. Now the fish caught in the northern area of the Gulf of California cannot be purchased from Mexico. The restriction was imposed almost two years ago by the International Court of Commerce of the United States, but only contemplated shrimp, curvina, sierra and chano. According to Excelsior, the decision was made based on the Marine Mammal Protection Act, which empowers the US government to prohibit the purchase of fishery products from countries that are not able to demonstrate that their regulations avoid bycatch. The Center for Biological Diversity was the one who promoted the embargo against Mexico, the director of the institution, Sarah Uhlemann, said: The environmental organization Sea Shepherd denounced on February 9 a shooting attack against his ship in the protection area of the vaquita marina, in the Upper Gulf of California, northwestern Mexico, with no damage or injuries. The shots came from boats (pangas) of fishermen who sailed around the Sea Shepherd ship, which is dedicated in this area to remove illegal fishing nets that threaten the vaquita. In a statement, the organization said the attack occurred on Saturday morning in a protection sector of the marine vaquita called ‘critical zone’, which is a priority for the conservation program of this marine mammal. "The incident lasted several minutes and several shots were heard," two of which fell into the water near the ship, which was not hit, the organization said when confirming they have recorded evidence of the attack by the ship's cameras. Sea Shepherd captain Jacqueline Le Duc said: This shows how aggressive poachers are. Proof that they are armed and that any boat that crosses must take it seriously, because we have no idea what they are capable of The captain of the environmental ship said that due to the proximity of the threat several measures against piracy were activated, such as the use of water cannons to prevent a potential boarding. On the boat there were personnel from the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa), the Federal Police and the Mexican Navy, the organization confirmed. He denounced that this is not the first time that poachers resort to violence in the area, remembering that in January 2019 the ships Sea Shepherd and Farley Mowat were attacked by about 50 people with stones and Molotov bombs. The marine vaquita protection area in the Upper Gulf of California is a federal protected area and recognized by Unesco as a place of prohibition for fishing with fishing nets that threaten the mammal. Profepa issued a statement on Sunday in which it “strongly” condemned the events and said it will collaborate 'in the investigations that are released to clarify and punish those responsible.'

  13. Now almost all Porsche have turbo. And even the electric Taycan is called "Turbo." But, when talking about "911 Turbo", it only remains to surrender to King Porsche. The German brand presented today at the Geneva show “virtual” (see live broadcasts) the new generation of its most famous sports car. It is based on the new generation 992 (read review), and was presented in two versions: Turbo S Coupé and Turbo S Cabriolet. Does this mean that in the future there will be versions "Turbo Without The S" with less power, as has always happened so far? The brand did not clarify. Because it is clear that power and torque, there is plenty. The new Turbo S have a 3.8-cylinder 3.8 Boxer engine, with two turbochargers of variable geometry. They deliver a power of 650 horses (70 more than the 991 Turbo S) and 800 Nm of torque (50 more than its predecessor). Combined with an automatic double clutch box (eight-shift PDK), it accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in just 2.7 seconds and reaches 330 km / h. The new 911 Turbo S will undoubtedly arrive in Argentina. Nordenwagen, importer of the German brand in our market, has the habit of offering the most famous sports car from Porsche for two decades. All other versions of the new 911-992 that are already on sale were reported here.

  14. The stories of about 4,000 Jews who asked for help, the flight of jurist Tullio Liebman to South America or the team of nuns who listened to international radios, are some of the documents of the Vatican Archives on Pope Pius XII that are open for Tuesday your study. After ten years of work the archives of the pontificate of Eugenio Maria Giuseppe Giovanni Pacelli will be made available to academics, but also more than 1,300,000 digitized documents, corresponding to the first 10 years (1939-1948), he explained in a The Secretary of State Relations, Cardinal Paul Richard Gallagher, interviews the Vatican media. The Vatican hopes that with the opening of the archives the shadows of the pontificate of Pius XII will be clarified, accused of not having raised his voice against Nazism, and it is confirmed that his prudent silence saved thousands of Jews. From the documents “the figure of the Pope emerges in all his greatness, as a defender of humanity and as a true universal pastor. Pacelli was a brave diplomat. As pope he showed unlimited charity, not always understood and shared even within the walls of the Vatican. The documents will show the efforts made to try to respond to requests for help for the salvation of the persecuted and the needy with their lives in danger, ”Gallagher added. Johan Ickx, responsible for the archives of the Secretary of State, the Vatican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explains in an article in the Vatican media the importance of having these documents digitized since it will allow the 20 admitted researchers every day, due to problems of space, check all available documents at once, quickly, or make photocopies. An assistant opens the section of the archive dedicated to Pope Pius XII on February 27, 2020 in the Vatican Apostolic Secret Archive. (Alberto PIZZOLI / AFP) An assistant opens the section of the archive dedicated to Pope Pius XII on February 27, 2020 in the Vatican Apostolic Secret Archive. (Alberto PIZZOLI / AFP) Ickx advances that among the documents you can navigate between the series of archives under the name: "Jews", 170 fascicles with the history of about 4,000 people, mostly Catholics of Jewish descent, but also Jews, who asked the pontiff for help. Among them you can discover the help to escape the young humanities researcher Paul Oskar Kristeller or Tullio Liebman, considered the founder of the “Procedural School of Sao Paulo”, world renowned professor at the universities of Pavia, Turin and Milan, who He was helped to escape to South America thanks to close collaborators of Pius XII. Scholars may consult the file "Italy 1352b", where they will find all the accusations against Alfredo Ottaviani, advisor to the Doctrine of the Faith and right hand of Pius XII, "for having given false documents to Jews and having admitted them to extraterritorial buildings." According to the archives of which Ickx speaks, "the documents will highlight how many and what efforts were made to save the persecuted" and "at the same time, the opposition of many States to open borders to many in need will be equally evident." It will also be possible to consult documents on that fateful October 16, 1943, when German soldiers entered the ghetto of Rome and captured 1,022 Jews, including 200 children and adolescents, and two days later sent them in 18 cattle cars to the field of concentration of Auschwitz, of which only 16 returned. You can read the touching letters sent to Pius XII by some Jews while they were being held by the SS and the Gestapo at the Military College in Palazzo Salviati. Nuncio Pacelli in July 1924 on the 900th anniversary of the city of Bamberg Nuncio Pacelli in July 1924 on the 900th anniversary of the city of Bamberg Also a note at the bottom of the page of Pope Pacelli in an office arrived from Washington in which he assured that “the Vatican had asked that this never happen again in Rome” and in which he asked if it was “prudent” that these comments come to light. For the archivist, Pius XII was aware that it was better to work in silence so as not to arouse the attention of the Nazis. When asked by the Pope, the secretary of the Congregation for Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs, Domenico Tardini, answered with a dry “no”. Among the millions of documents, there are also the volumes of the Listening Service of foreign radios, a group of nuns who, between 1943 and 1954, from a room in the pontifical Palace listened to and transcribed the programs of the main international radios, providing the superiors of The Secretary of State breaking news.
