  1. Rabat- Following the Atlas Lions’ historic qualification for the round of 16 at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Morocco’s Royal Football Federation (FRMF) will receive $13 million (MAD 136 million ) in prize money from FIFA. In the event the team qualifies for the quarter-final by defeating Spain on December 6, the prize money will total $17 million (MAD 178 million.) The prize money increases as the football team advances in the global tournament; fourth place guarantees $25 million, third place guarantees $27 million, the runner-up receives $30 million, and the trophy winner receives $42 million. Fox Sports reported that the winning team in Qatar will earn a staggering $42 million for winning the World Cup, an increase of $4m compared to Russia 2018. The Atlas Lions qualified for the knockout phase for the first time in 36 years. Their participation in the global tournament was marked by a goalless draw with Croatia and victories over Belgium (2-0) and Canada (2-1). The World Cup's round of 16 will feature a match between Group F champion Morocco and Group E runner-up Spain. The game will take place on December 6 at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar. Spanish professional footballer Sergio Busquets, stated that his team's upcoming World Cup match against Morocco's Atlas Lions will be "very difficult." According to Football Italia match predictions, this round of 16 clash “may be one of the hardest to call” with Morocco “proving themselves highly capable competitors” and “Spain having a solid possession-based style.” However, this year's World Cup is full of surprises and thus highly unpredictable, beginning with Saudi Arabia's shocking 2-1 win over Argentina. Additionally, some of the world’s top-ranked football giants were eliminated from the World Cup's group stage including Germany and Belgium. https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2022/12/352782/world-cup-morocco-secures-13-million-after-qualifying-to-the-round-of-16

  2. Eager for some fresh information about Diablo IV? Well, it seems you should be marking The Game Awards on your calendar. According to reliable insider Tom Henderson, Diablo IV will have a presence at Geoff Keighley’s annual extravaganza, with information on the game’s open beta and possibly even a release date/window being revealed. Jez Corden, who has previously leaked details about Diablo IV, claims the open beta date, pre-orders, and collector’s edition details are the most likely thing we’ll learn. Just can’t wait until The Game Awards on December 8 for the reveals? Well, again according to Henderson, a number of journalists and influencers have had the opportunity to go hands-on with Diablo IV and the embargo on their impressions will expire the day before. Finally, we return to Jez Corden, who previously indicated Diablo IV could launch in April of 2023. He’s now saying that April may have “represented the earlier end” of the game’s potential launch window, and that the game could launch as late as June 2023. Of course, take all this with a grain of salt for now. Henderson almost always delivers the goods, Corden… not so much. So perhaps take the rumors about The Game Awards a bit more seriously than the June release date. Haven’t been keeping up with Diablo IV recently? You can check out some leaked footage from the recent closed beta here. Activision Blizzard has faced a series of lawsuits and other legal action on the heels of a suit filed by California’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) alleging widespread gender-based discrimination and sexual harassment at the Call of Duty publisher. You can get more details on that unfolding story here. Diablo IV is coming to PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5 sometime in 2023. The Game Awards will be livestreamed on December 8. https://wccftech.com/diablo-iv-the-game-awards-reveals-june-release-rumor/

  5. Rabat- King Mohammed VI has ordered a four-year gradual increase in the monthly allowance granted to imams. This increase will begin in 2023, the new value is the same monthly amount as the last four-year stipend rise. King Mohammed VI has also ordered that muezzins—the person who performs the call to prayer—be given the same raise, reported the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs. In June, Moroccan Minister of Islamic Affairs Ahmed Toufiq launched a support program aimed at improving the socioeconomic status of imams around the country. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs set a budget of MAD 1.93 billion ($192 million) in funding to enhance the imams' situation, including monthly incentives, health coverage, and training. For imams, the minimum monthly incentives increased from MAD 2,300 ($228.85) to MAD 2,600 ($258.70), while for 78% of religious people who perform other duties in addition to being imams, the minimum monthly incentives increased from MAD 2,500 ($248.75) to MAD 3,700 ($368.15). The support program is also aimed at mosques; the Islamic ministry allotted financial contributions estimated at MAD 300 million annually to enhance mosques’ governance and renovation initiatives. 6. Indulge your Supernatural fantasies with this big Chevy hardtop, done up as a clone of the hero car from the TV series, which is now up for auction on the Bring a Trailer website. With bench seating, a two-speed Powerglide transmission, and a burbling 283-cubic-inch engine, this is an ideal weekend cruiser that makes all the right sounds. Repainted black and fitted with chrome 15-inch five-spoke wheels, this Impala will be instantly familiar to a demographic far younger than your usual muscle-car enthusiast. Running over 15 seasons since it debuted in 2005, Supernatural was one of the longest-running, most successful fantasy TV series ever. Focusing on fictional twin brothers Sam and Dean Winchester as they roved around the country fighting demons and ghosts, it was sort of a cross between a traditional Western and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And in a Western, you need a faithful horse. Dean Winchester had Baby, his beloved Impala. Originally, the show was supposed to feature the more obvious choice of a mid-1960s Ford Mustang, but the decision was made to go for something a little rougher around the edges. A black pillarless-hardtop Impala offered the necessary air of menace: low and rumbling and with the implication that there was plenty of space in the trunk for a body or two. Up for auction on the website Bring a Trailer—which, like Car and Driver, is part of Hearst Autos—is a clone with all the charm of the Supernatural hero car. With the auction set to end on Tuesday, December 6, bidding sits at just $5200. The cultural impact of this show was probably a bit bewildering for dads of a certain age, asking their teenage daughters what kind of car they might like and receiving the prompt answer, “A black 1967 Chevy Impala four-door hardtop.” For a generation, Baby was more famous than the Dukes of Hazzard's General Lee. Which is as it should be, since the former was inspired by the latter. Perhaps though, the Supernatural Impala is a bit more like the Back to the Future DeLorean, in that the show has ended up inadvertently saving a bunch of old four-door Impalas. Without its celebrity status, a classic Chevy sedan wouldn't be as popular as a coupe. Happily, this car, which started out white, with some previous body damage noted, has been brought back to life with a refurbished interior and 15-inch wheels with fresh BFGoodrich Radial T/A rubber. Mechanically, this Impala is nothing special, with a 283-cubic-inch V-8 and a two-speed Powerglide slushbox. It's fine if you just want to cruise around all summer, but the oil pan gasket needs resealing next oil change. Having had a chance to get up close with the actual Impala used as the hero car in Supernatural, anyone interested in this car might want to start putting together a shopping list. In person, Baby is no princess. She's a demon-shredding rottweiler. Under the hood of the real Supernatural Impala is a built-up 500-cubic-inch big block Chevy V-8, which lopes at idle like a bowling ball in an industrial dryer. The suspension is comprehensively upgraded with components from Hotchkiss, and the brakes are upgraded as well. Now in the possession of actor Jensen Ackles, who played Dean Winchester, the hero Impala is kept at his home in Texas. He put air conditioning in it but kept all the onscreen patina the same. So, two options here. One, an easy-riding weekend cruiser that looks like the one on your favorite show. Two, haul it into the garage and build out a truly badass sedan, worthy of any Winchester. Just don't turn your back and walk away. Sam and Dean would never. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a42110590/1967-chevrolet-impala-sport-sedan-bring-a-trailer-auction/

  7. Rabat - The 7th session of UNESCO’s intergovernmental committee for the safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage is taking place in the Kasbah of the Udayas in Rabat, Morocco, between November 28 and December 3. Morocco's Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid, presided over the opening ceremony, which was attended by Morocco's ambassador to the United Nations, Samir Addahar among others. Different countries have submitted 46 cultural heritage projects to take part in the event. Morocco's King Mohamed VI sent a message to participants and emphasized in his address the necessity to maintain and protect national cultural heritage, which is sometimes appropriated by other countries. During this event, Morocco and UNESCO signed an agreement to train experts from 12 African countries on how to protect world heritage sites and add new editions to the heritage list. The agreement was signed by the Minister of Youth, Mehdi Bensaid, and the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, as part of the event. The purpose of the agreement aims to let countries in sub-Saharan Africa use Morocco's knowledge of how to protect their cultural assets. In a statement to the press, Bensaid named the partnership “important” saying, “Morocco has great expertise in the area of tangible and intangible heritage as a result of the policies it takes under royal patronage." He also stressed that “the choice of the city of Rabat to host the proceedings of this conference is not a random decision; it is a testament to the great cultural impact of this venerable city, a center of the world's cultures." The activities of the second day of the meeting of the intergovernmental committee for the safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage also featured the organizing of a workshop on the culture and language of Amazigh. 8. Rabat - Morocco will face Spain in the 2022 World Cup round of 16, after group E’s fixtures concluded today in a thrilling day. Despite a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Japan today, Spain still made it to the round of 16 after they finished second in their group. Spain opened the scoresheet in the first half with a goal from Alvaro Morata, but the Blue Samurais came back in full force in the second half, scoring two goals in two minutes by Ritsu Doan and Ao Tanaka. Morocco sealed its qualification to the knockouts earlier today after a 2-1 victory against Canada. This is the first time that the Atlas Lions will be playing in the round of 16 since 1986. Following the match, thousands of Moroccans took to the streets across the country and the world to celebrate, honking their cars and waving Moroccan flags. Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui said the fans needed the win, and that the players deserved it, also praising the opposition in the Canadian team. The manager will have a lot to prepare for heading into the round of 16. Spain may be favored to win, but in a tournament full of upsets, a win could grant this Moroccan team a historic achievement. https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2022/12/352758/world-cup-2022-morocco-to-face-spain-in-round-of-16

  9. Rabat - Morocco’s travel revenues reached MAD 71.10 billion, or $6.74 billion at the end of October, according to new data from the Foreign Exchange Office. The number represents an increase of MAD 42.37 billion ($4 billion) compared to the same period in 2022. The data also exceeded the level reached at the end of October 2019 (MAD 67.02 billion or $6.35 billion). The new statistics reflect the ongoing recovery of the tourism sector, which has been one of the most impacted industries due to the COVID-19 crisis. Tourism expenses stood at MAD 13.38 billion at the end of October, maintaining a lower level than in 2018 and 2019 prior to the COVID-19 crisis. Travel balance almost tripled to reach MAD 57.72 billion ($5.46 billion) at the end of October 2022 against MAD 19.89 billion ($1.88 billion) a year earlier. Morocco’s Tourism Minister Fatim Zahra Ammor said last month that the country’s tourism industry reached a recovery rate of 80% at the end of October, exceeding the global level which stands at 70%. Morocco’s tourism revenues in foreign currency rose to 103% at the end of September compared to pre-COVID figures in 2019, she added. Overnight stays [tourist accommodation] have risen from 30% before the pandemic, to 45% as of late September, the minister said, stressing the government's commitment to supporting the sector’s recovery. https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2022/12/352765/moroccos-tourism-revenues-hit-6-74-billion-in-october

  10. Resident Evil 4 - Ultra HD Edition features a fully functional Tyrant that is set to expand the game's modding possibilities further. As reported by emoose on Twitter, the latest version of the fourth entry in the survival-horror series by CAPCOM features a Tyrant model lifted from Resident Evil Remake as well as functional AI that can be activated with only a tiny change. This had been known for a while, but it was not unknown that it could be activated. While new discoveries are being made in the original version of the game, CAPCOM is hard at work on the Resident Evil 4 remake, which will launch on March 24th, 2023, on PC and consoles. This time, the game is being developed to achieve state-of-the-art quality for a survival horror suitable for 2023, while preserving the essence of the original game. We aim to make the game feel familiar to fans of the series, while also providing a fresh feeling to it. This is being done by reimagining the storyline of the game while keeping the essence of its direction, modernizing the graphics and updating the controls to a modern standard. Six years have passed since the biological disaster in Racoon City. Leon S. Kennedy, one of the survivors of the incident, has been recruited as an agent reporting directly to the president. With the experience of multiple missions on his back, Leon is sent to rescue the kidnapped daughter of the president of the United States. He tracks her to a secluded European village, where there is something terribly wrong with the villagers. And the curtain rises on this story of grueling survival horror and rescue. https://wccftech.com/resident-evil-4-ultimate-hd-edition-features-fully-functional-tyrant/

  11. Want your iPad volume buttons to be dynamic and change positions whenever you are in portrait or landscape position? Here’s how to do it. Make the iPad Volume Buttons Feel Natural and Change With Orientation in iPadOS With the iPad mini, Apple made an interesting decision to move the volume buttons above the tablet. The way those buttons work is extremely genius, the volume button facing towards the right or upwards will function as volume up. In other words, if you are holding the iPad mini in portrait mode, then the button facing towards the right will increase the volume, and if you rotate the tablet 90-degree clockwise, then the ‘volume down’ button will increase the volume, essentially turning into the ‘volume up’ button. It feels more natural to use and is something that Apple should bring to other iPad models. Except that it already has with a recent iPadOS update. If you have a regular iPad, an iPad Air, or an iPad Pro, you can set the volume buttons to be completely dynamic. If you change the orientation of the device, the volume buttons will change with them to be in a more natural position. I will show you how to set it up right now. Note: Please make sure you are on the latest version of iPadOS in order to do this. iPadOS 16.1 or above, at least. You can update to the latest version by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Step 1. Launch the Settings app. Step 2. Tap on Sounds on the left. Step 3. Scroll all the way down in the list of options. Step 4. Right at the very end, you’ll see an option called Fixed Position Volume Controls - tap to disable it. Voila! That’s all you have to do. From now on, your iPad’s volume button will be dynamic and change position according to the orientation in which you are holding the device. If you’ve never used the iPad mini before, this change might seem super weird to you. it’s the same as when Apple introduced inverted scrolling on the mouse. It takes some time to get used to, but once you get the hang of it, you will never ever go back. https://wccftech.com/how-to/make-ipad-volume-buttons-dynamic-and-change-with-orientation/

  12. In China, a news story is floating that a pregnant woman tried to evade customs with over 200 Intel CPUs attached to her fake prosthetic belly. Chinese Woman Tries To Evade Customs With Fake Proesthetic 'Pregnant' Belly, Gets Caught With Over 200 Intel CPUs Chinese customs authorities report that the woman named, Zhao, has been identified as a resident of Zhuhai, Guangdong in China. She came to Macau recently & was trying to enter back into China mainland through the Gongbei Port in Zhuhai. While at the port, the Chinese customs authorities noticed something was off about the woman and asked her for inspection. The woman alleged that she was pregnant for 5-6 months but upon a closer look by the customs agents, it was identified that the woman had a fake prosthetic belly attached to her. However, the news agency reports that the size of her belly made it seem like she was in her third trimester and was walking comfortably. After having the fake belly removed, the customs authorities found a total of 202 Intel CPUs and 9 mobile phones within the fake prosthetic. All of the components were held firmly by scotch tape and this takes tax evasion to the next level. Reports confirm that the Intel CPUs that were recovered from the lady are all 12th Gen Intel Alder Lake CPUs and the mobile phones seem to be Apple's latest iPhones. This isn't the first time Chinese customs have busted similar cases, earlier this year, an individual was caught with 160 Intel Alder Lake CPUs attached to his body. Given how close this new case sounds & feels to the older case, this might be a common tactic by customs evaders used in China. There have also been cases of several companies trying to evade taxes by shipping mislabeled graphics cards in the past too. https://wccftech.com/chinese-woman-fakes-pregnancy-tries-to-evade-customs-over-200-intel-alder-lake-cpus/

  17. Rabat - Police offices in the city of Oujda, in Northern Morocco, resorted to the use of live ammunition on Sunday to arrest a 42-year-old male suspected in a murder case. The suspect is under charges of murder and attempted murder against four women belonging to the same family. According to an official statement from Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the suspect trespassed onto his neighbors’ property and physically assaulted three women who were 76, 45, and 19 years of age. The three women died of their injuries while the fourth victim is suffering from grave injuries. The police report indicates that the suspect used a knife to carry out his assault. The exact motives of the crime remain unclear. The statement further details that police officers resorted to using live ammunition to intimidate the suspect who was in a state of near hysteria as he rushed to barricade himself inside the victims’ house. Police officers shot two bullets in the air and another two non-fatal shots toward the suspect's lower body. The statement explains that the bodies of the victims were taken to the mortuary for a medical autopsy and that the fourth victim was sent to a hospital to receive medical attention. The suspect was kept temporarily under medical supervision in a hospital, and will be transferred to custody of the Public Prosecution to be processed. The investigation is still ongoing to determine the circumstances and the motives behind the crimes. https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2022/11/352487/police-resort-to-firearms-to-arrest-murder-suspect-in-oujda

  18. Rabat - The UM6P-Al Moutmir direct seeding program plans to extend its offer to cover over 25,000 hectares for the 2022-2023 agricultural season in Morocco. The initiative is part of the program’s contribution to Morocco’s national program seeking to promote direct seeding, a statement from the OCP Group said on Monday. With the intention to reach more than 125 localities across 23 provinces, the program is at the heart of a collaboration with the Ministry of Culture. Other institutional partners to the initiative include the Regional Directorate of Agriculture, the National Institute of Agronomic Research, and the National Office of Agricultural Advice. “Seed drills are made available to more than 50 professional agricultural organizations (cooperatives, associations, economic interest groups, etc.) in 23 provinces in different regions of the Kingdom,” OCP stated. Under the program, farmers will benefit from close monitoring by the Al Moutmir teams. Training programs on the choice of varieties in cereal growing and the adjustment of seed drills are also part of the strategy. As part of the Al Moutmir program, beneficiaries will have access to soil analysis and recommendations necessary for rational fertilization use. “The initiative has set up a system for monitoring changes in the rate of organic matter in the soil of plots conducted using direct seeding,” the OCP Group said, emphasizing that this device is set to evaluate the effect of the adoption of direct seeding on the physico-chemical characteristics of the soil. In addition, over 1,030 direct seeding demonstration platforms will be installed and monitored in collaboration with the various partners. The program is targeting high-potential crops such as oil seeds, and fodder crops aimed at rearing livestock, in addition to focusing on cereals and vegetables during the 2022-2023 agricultural season. The program is part of national initiatives seeking to contribute to reviving the agricultural sector. Agriculture, one of the pillars in Morocco’s economy, has been severely impacted by inflation and drought. The North African country has been facing the most severe drought in three decades. The lack of downpours and drought caused a significant drop in cereal production in the agricultural season in 2021-2022. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Morocco’s cereal production in the previous season fell by 67% compared to a season earlier. The country produced 34 million quintals of cereals in the 2021-22 season, compared to 103.2 million quintals in the 2020-2021 agricultural year. https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2022/11/352491/moroccos-um6p-al-moutmir-program-to-expand-to-over-25-000-hectares

  19. Moroccan ambassador for electronic music and DJ producer Amine Akesbi, also known by his stage name Amine K, demonstrates the intrinsic link between music and migration. From Rabat to Ibiza, through the four corners of the world, Amine K has turned electronic music into his destiny. Amine K developed a love for music at a young age when his uncle gave him an old mixer. Before converting his passion into a profession, he studied finance in Australia and France. In 2001, while he was in a Beirut night club, he realized that music would define his life. The majority of Amine’s productions are dedicated to his Moroccan roots, but his musical inspirations range from classic, old-school, to progressive and tribal styles. Amine K told Morocco World News (MWN) that “as a musician, I have a voice to raise because people listen to me. I once supported the idea of Federation De La Gauche Democratique but I am not affiliated to any political party. I think that you can be involved in politics without being in a political party.” That being said, Amine K shows a multifaceted engagement, reflected through his songs and on a personal level. “Tiniri,” which means Sahara in Tamazight, was recorded in Marrakech. It combines Arabic vocals, traditional Moroccan instruments, melodic house, and techno. In an interview, Amine K specified that the choice of the title refers to the vibrations of the desert and that it is entirely detached from the political theme of the Sahara dispute. The musician adds that the idea of tackling the theme of Moroccan migration is the idea behind Gnaoua band Comptoir Darna, who he worked with on the release of the track. The lyrics, written entirely in Darija, highlight the disparity between the expectation of a better life in a foreign country and the reality faced by Moroccan migrants. The translated lyrics read: “This is my situation in people’s land. We did not find a job to work and with that we are wasted. Coal tar in my country is better than honey of foreign countries.” Amine K uses his music to communicate that the hardships that migrants encounter in their original countries are better than the mere opportunities presented in foreign host countries. The DJ told MWN: “There is a lot of social pressure in Morocco about the idea of going abroad…When people go abroad and do not find work, they are ashamed to go back to their country just to show to their family that they did not succeed.” Amine K uses Darija so that his message reaches a wider audience. In addition to the language of the lyrics, the choice of instruments is strategic. The Guembri, a plucked string instrument, and Krakeb, a large iron castanet-like instrument, is linked to the Gnaouas while the Darbouka, a percussion instrument, underlines the Arab identity and culture. Amine K emphasizes that “we created this piece not [just] for Moroccans but for everybody. Most people abroad are not familiar with Gnaoua’s music. The idea is to make it more accessible to everybody.” Considering the aspect of inclusivity, the lyrical content and the instruments aim to capture emotions that everyone, migrants and non-migrants alike, can identify with. The track provides a better understanding of the way migrants view their own migratory experience and their host society as well as how they are perceived by their hosts. "Tiniri" is particularly interesting as it not only mirrors the perceptions of Moroccan migrants, but also informs them in a way that does not necessarily appear in academic or creative literature. Such tracks emphasize some of the assets of music as a source of migration analysis over other formats. Music is a universal, democratic and wide-spreading language both in its production and consumption, while literature is more restricted, with a barrier to entry that might be too high for some people. The flow of Moroccan migration has become globalized resulting in new immigration destinations and profiles. Initially, Moroccan migration was mainly to European countries, migrants were predominantly male, temporary, and looking for work. During the past 30 years, migration has undergone profound changes, namely regarding the increase in women and younger migrants and a wider diversity of ethnic groups. Migration of Moroccans has shifted from the traditional immigration countries of western Europe to new destinations such as North America, the Middle East and even other places in Africa, breaking the stereotypes around a Eurocentric and exclusively male Moroccan migration. Unlike what is generally believed, Moroccans' intention to emigrate is moderate. According to a 2018-2019 survey from the High Commission for Planning (HCP), less than a quarter of non-migrants wish to emigrate, with an accentuated tendency among younger, more educated unmarried, and unemployed demographics to emigrate. https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2022/11/352474/migration-and-music-dj-amine-k-pays-tribute-to-migrants-experience

  21. Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are off to a good start in the UK with initial boxed sales beating those of FIFA 23. Digital numbers aren’t available for Nintendo games, but as reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the latest mainstream Pokémon entry was the biggest boxed release of the year in the UK, surpassing those of the previous biggest, FIFA 23, by 4%. In unit numbers, the launch of the Pokémon games for the Nintendo Switch is the second biggest launch in the series of all time, only behind Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. It should be noted that when it comes to generated revenue, Pokémon Scarlet and Viol harvested more money than Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon did in 2016. Of course, this is related to the retail price of the games (£48 vs £35). As also mentioned by GamesIndustry, most boxed sales came from Pokémon Violet (52%). Scarlet accounted for 42% of sales with the remaining 6% of boxed sales coming from the double pack including both versions. “Scarlet and Violet's first week sales are 25% bigger than the previous 'new generation' Pokémon release, Sword and Shield, which launched on Switch in November 2019”, the report reads. “It's also 70% bigger than last year's Diamond and Pearl remakes and 56% bigger than January's Pokémon Legends: Arceus.” Another interesting tidbit is that the launch of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet also boosted Switch hardware sales by 62% compared to the previous week, and allowed for the biggest Switch sales week of 2022 in the UK. Impressive numbers for sure, and we’re pretty interested to learn how the games have been doing outside of the UK as well.
