  1. Take-Two and Zynga have merged in what, for the moment, is the biggest corporate deal in gaming history. The stockholders of each company approved all proposals last Thursday, and shares of Zynga ceased trading after market close on Friday. Yesterday Zynga shareholders received $3.50 and 0.0406 Take-Two shares for every share in Zynga, adding up to an enormous $12.7 billion, and the deal is done. The money involved is eye-watering, though so are the brands involved. Take-Two's most famous asset is the Grand Theft Auto franchise, but it also owns the likes of NBA2K, the WWE games, BioShock, Borderlands, and Civilisation. Zynga is probably still best-known for Farmville and Words with Friends but has a huge slate of successful mobile titles including Golf Rival, the CSR Racing series, and a raft of casino-type games. On its face this is a merger that makes a lot of sense: Take-Two's great at the 'big' stuff and Zynga's raking it in hand-over-fist in the ever-growing mobile space. Take-Two chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick is of course cock-a-hoop that the deal's gone through. "We are thrilled to complete our combination with Zynga, which is a pivotal step to increase exponentially our Net Bookings from mobile, the fastest-growing segment in interactive entertainment, while also providing us with substantial cost synergies and revenue opportunities," said Zelnick in the company's announcement. "As we bring together our exceptional talent, exciting pipelines of games, and industry-leading technologies and capabilities, we believe that we can take our portfolio to another level of creativity, innovation, and quality." There are a few mentions of 'strong shareholder value' that I'll spare you, though Zelnick also speaks about the deal in terms of the new company "becoming a leader in mobile games." Grand Theft Auto mobile? Seems like a license to print money. The CEO of Zynga, Frank Gibeau, is similarly chipper. "We are excited for Zynga’s next-generation mobile platform, free-to-play expertise, diverse offering of games and incredible team to join the Take-Two family," said Gibeau. "We are eager to continue building an unparalleled portfolio of games that will reach broader markets and lead to continued growth for this next chapter of Zynga’s history." $12.7 billion is an unimaginable sum of money, though it probably won't remain the biggest acquisition in games for very long: Microsoft’s planned acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion rumbles on, and the most recent development was the Activision Blizzard shareholders voting to approve the deal. That deal still faces some regulatory hoop-jumping, but is widely expected to eventually complete. 3. Behold the product of one man's passion for pace car Corvettes! It all started in 1954 when 12-year-old Richard Foster's dad took him to see the Indianapolis 500 for the first time. From that moment on, Foster was in love with the Brickyard. Eventually, Mr. Foster became Doctor Foster, and he was ready to start collecting cars. Many of them were Corvettes, including a huge assortment of Indy 500 pace cars and replicas. How many various cars? How about 42 in his own private museum? For Foster, the stars of this museum are those pace cars, festival cars, and pace car replicas. "I've always been in love with that race," he says. "I have many great memories of being there and seeing so many tremendous cars and drivers." Update 5/23/22 This collection of Corvette pace cars, ranging in age from 1978 to 2022, sold at the 2022 Mecum Auctions event in Indy for an astounding $1.375 million! Keep scrolling to learn more about what made this incredible collection so special. One Man’s Passion Becomes Corvette-Filled Reality Dr. Foster is now 80 years old, and he has decided it's time to pass these pieces of Corvette history on to someone else, so these 18 examples will be auctioned off as a single lot at Dana Mecum's 35th Original Spring Classic Auction in Indianapolis, Indiana, taking place May 13-21. Dr. Foster's pace car collection includes not only documented, factory-produced Corvette pace cars and festival cars but faithfully executed and IMS-approved pace car reproductions as well, which, thanks to rigorous research and fact-checking, are nearly indistinguishable from originals. For those who share Dr. Foster's deep and abiding affection for the Indianapolis 500, and the Corvette pace cars that have become almost as much a part of the show as the race and racers themselves, the Dr. Richard Foster Corvette pace car collection will present a prime opportunity to see, enjoy, marvel at, and perhaps bid on a piece of that legacy. So, if you have somewhat deep pockets and a love of Corvettes and the Indy 500, this is your chance to snatch up this one-of-a-kind Corvette pace car collection! One more important note: Not shown here is a 2022 C8 Corvette that is currently undergoing pace car transformation and, when finished, will be shipped to the winning bidder! 4. The world is "navigating a dark hour in our shared history" with Russia's invasion of Ukraine, US President Joe Biden told key Asian allies. The war has now become a "global issue" underscoring the importance of defending international order, he said. Japanese PM Fumio Kishida also echoed his comments, saying that a similar invasion should not happen in Asia. Mr Biden is meeting the leaders of Japan, Australia and India in Tokyo in his first visit to Asia as president. The four countries known collectively as the Quad are discussing security and economic concerns including China's growing influence in the region - and differences over the Russian invasion. Mr Biden's comments come a day after he warned China that it was "flirting with danger" over Taiwan, and vowed to protect Taiwan militarily if China attacked, appearing to contradict a long-standing US policy on the issue. In his opening remarks at Tuesday's summit, Mr Biden said their meeting was about "democracies versus autocracies, and we have to make sure that we deliver". The Ukraine war, he said, "is going to affect all parts of the world" as Russia's blockade of Ukraine grain exports worsens a global food crisis. Mr Biden promised the US would work with allies to lead the global response, reiterating their commitment to defend international order and sovereignty "regardless of where they were violated in the world" and remaining a "strong and enduring partner" in the Indo-Pacific region. While Quad leaders will be looking to present a united front, there are differences. India is the only Quad member so far that has refused to directly criticise Russia for the invasion. In his opening remarks at Tuesday's summit, Indian PM Narendra Modi did not mention the issue. Australia's new PM Anthony Albanese meanwhile emphasised his country's commitment to regional security and climate change. What is the Quad - and why is China a concern? Formally referred to as the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, the Quad began as a loose grouping of countries following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that banded together to provide humanitarian and disaster assistance. The group fell dormant before it was resuscitated in 2017. Since then however, the top leaders have gathered for the fourth time - they have already met once in Washington last September and twice virtually - in less than two years. Analysts say the steady decline in each Quad nation's bilateral ties with China in the past few years appears to have given the grouping more impetus. There has been mounting discomfort with China's growing assertiveness in the region, with ongoing maritime disputes between China and several countries, and a land boundary conflict with India. Beijing's heavy investment in strengthening its navy and its recent security pact with the Solomon Islands has stoked fears in Australia, while Japan has become increasingly wary of what it calls routine "incursions" from the Chinese navy in its waters. In a move to preserve US interests in the region, Mr Biden unveiled the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) on Monday - a new US-led trade pact aiming to promote regional growth that includes 13 countries, mostly in Asia. US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo called it an "important turning point in restoring US economic leadership in the region" that would provide countries "an alternative to China's approach". Officials said it would set standards in the areas of trade, supply chains, clean energy and infrastructure, and tax and anti-corruption. https://csblackdevil.com/forums/forum/109-news/?do=add

  5. Vivo X80 Pro and Vivo X80 — launched in India this week — aim to take on some of the most po[CENSORED]r premium models in the smartphone market. Vivo's new flagships continue the X-series legacy of offering top-notch camera experiences. That means not only do both Vivo X80 Pro and Vivo X80 come with Zeiss optics, they also include Sony image sensors. The regular Vivo X80 is also the first phone in the market to come with the recently launched MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC. Meanwhile, the Vivo X80 Pro carries the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip — the top offering from Qualcomm. On this week's episode of Gadgets 360 podcast Orbital, host Akhil Arora speaks with Senior Reviewers Sheldon Pinto and Aditya Shenoy to discuss the Vivo X80 series and how it sits against the likes of the OnePlus 10 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S22, and the iPhone 13. The Vivo X80 Pro carries a price tag of Rs. 79,999 for the single 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant, while the Vivo X80 starts at Rs. 54,999 for the base 8GB + 128GB configuration, and goes up to Rs. 59,999 for the top-end 12GB + 256GB model. Both Vivo X80 Pro and Vivo X80 will go on sale from May 25. ALSO SEEVivo X80 Pro First Impressions: A Worthy Upgrade? If you were to make direct comparisons, the price of the Vivo X80 Pro would seem significantly higher than that of the Vivo X70 Pro that debuted in India at a starting price of Rs. 46,990 for the 8GB + 128GB model. But that's the wrong comparison to make. The pricing of the Vivo X80 Pro is identical with that of the Vivo X70 Pro+, which came in at Rs. 79,990 for the same 12GB + 256GB variant. This suggests that the Vivo X80 Pro has been introduced in the Indian market as the successor to the Vivo X70 Pro+ — not the Vivo X70 Pro. The vanilla Vivo X80, on the other hand, seems to be the successor to the Vivo X70 Pro. It's confusing, I know, but this is what happens when companies try to simplify naming conventions. As I said before, Vivo offers a list of camera-focused features on the X80 series to attract those in the market for enhanced mobile photography experiences. The Vivo X80 Pro comes with quad rear cameras that include a 50-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GNV primary sensor, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide shooter carrying a Sony IMX598 sensor, a 12-megapixel portrait Sony IMX663 sensor, and an 8-megapixel sensor with a periscope-shaped lens. In contrast, the Vivo X80 carries a triple rear camera setup that houses a 50-megapixel Sony IMX866 RGBW primary sensor, along with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide shooter, and a 12-megapixel portrait sensor. Both Vivo X80 Pro and X80 also come with a 32-megapixel selfie camera sensor at the front. Alongside the new hardware, the Vivo X80 phones have a list of software tweaks to deliver a customisable camera experience. The Vivo X80 Pro also retains the company's gimbal technology that is touted to help provide increased exposure and stability. The Vivo X80 Pro and X80 both come with IP ratings for dust and water resistance. The X80, though, only has an IP53 rating is meant for splash resistance — essentially, you can't dive with the phone in a swimming pool. ALSO SEEVivo X80 First Impressions: A Promising Premium All-Rounder Design-wise, the Vivo X80 Pro and X80 both look almost identical, with the periscope lens on the former bringing a minor distinction at the back. The design is also quite similar to that of the Vivo X70 Pro+. We talk more about the design and performance of both Vivo X80 phones on our podcast. You can listen to the entire discussion by hitting the play button on the Spotify player embedded above. In case you are new to our site, you can find the Gadgets 360 podcast Orbital on your favourite platform — be it Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Gaana, JioSaavn, Spotify, or wherever you listen to your podcasts. 6. Technology has allowed us to immerse ourselves in a world of sights and sounds from the comfort of our home, but there's something missing: touch. Tactile sensation is an incredibly important part of how humans perceive their reality. Haptics or devices that can produce extremely specific vibrations that can mimic the sensation of touch are a way to bring that third sense to life. However, as far as haptics have come, humans are incredibly particular about whether or not something feels right, and virtual textures don't always hit the mark. Now, researchers at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering have developed a new method for computers to achieve that true texture—with the help of human beings. Called a preference-driven model, the framework uses our ability to distinguish between the details of certain textures as a tool in order to give these virtual counterparts a tune-up. The research was published in IEEE Transactions on Haptics by three USC Viterbi Ph.D. students in computer science, Shihan Lu, Mianlun Zheng and Matthew Fontaine, as well as Stefanos Nikolaidis, USC Viterbi assistant professor in computer science and Heather Culbertson, USC Viterbi WiSE Gabilan Assistant Professor in Computer Science. "We ask users to compare their feeling between the real texture and the virtual texture," Lu, the first author, explained. "The model then iteratively updates a virtual texture so that the virtual texture can match the real one in the end." According to Fontaine, the idea first emerged when they shared a Haptic Interfaces and Virtual Environments class back in Fall of 2019 taught by Culbertson. They drew inspiration from the art application Picbreeder, which can generate images based on a user's preference over and over until it reaches the desired result. Using this preference-driven model, the user is first given a real texture, and the model randomly generates three virtual textures using dozens of variables, from which the user can then pick the one that feels the most similar to the real thing. Over time, the search adjusts its distribution of these variables as it gets closer and closer to what the user prefers. According to Fontaine, this method has an advantage over directly recording and "playing back" textures, as there's always a gap between what the computer reads and what we feel. "You're measuring parameters of exactly how they feel it, rather than just mimicking what we can record," Fontaine said. There's going to be some error in how you recorded that texture, to how you play it back." The only thing the user has to do is choose what texture matches best and adjust the amount of friction using a simple slider. Friction is essential to how we perceive textures, and it can vary between the perceptions of person to person. It's "very easy," Lu said. Their work comes just in time for the emerging market for specific, accurate virtual textures. Everything from video games to fashion design is integrating haptic technology, and the existing databases of virtual textures can be improved through this user preference method. "There is a growing po[CENSORED]rity of the haptic device in video games and fashion design and surgery simulation," Lu said. "Even at home, we've started to see users with those (haptic) devices that are becoming as po[CENSORED]r as the laptop. For example, with first-person video games, it will make them feel like they're really interacting with their environment." Lu previously did other work on immersive technology, but with sound—specifically, making the virtual texture even more immersive by introducing matching sounds when the tool interacts with it. "When we are interacting with the environment through a tool, tactile feedback is only one modality, one kind of sensory feedback," Lu said. "Audio is another kind of sensory feedback, and both are very important." The texture-search model also allows for someone to take a virtual texture off of a database, like the University of Pennsylvania's Haptic Texture Toolkit, and refine them until they get the result they want. "You can use the previous virtual textures searched by others, and then based on those, you can then continue tuning it," Lu said. "You don't have to search from scratch every time." This especially comes in handy for virtual textures that are used in training for dentistry or surgery, which need to be extremely accurate, according to Lu. "Surgical training is definitely a huge area that requires very realistic textures and tactile feedback," Lu said. "Fashion design also requires a lot of precision in texture in development, before they go and fabricate it." In the future, real textures may not even be required for the model, Lu explained. The way certain things in our lives feel is so intuitive that fine-tuning a texture to match that memory is something we can do inherently just by looking at a photo, without having the real texture for reference in front of us. "When we see a table, we can imagine how the table will feel once we touch it," Lu said. "Using this prior knowledge we have of the surface, you can just provide visual feedback to the users, and it allows them to choose what matches." https://csblackdevil.com/forums/forum/828-software/?do=add
  7. An alleged NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Ti Founders Edition graphics card cooler has been leaked out over at Chiphell Forums. The cooler might give us a very first look at the updated Founders Edition design being featured on the next-gen Ada Lovelace GPUs. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Ti Founders Edition Graphics Card Cooler Allegedly Leaks Out: Massive Heatsink, Bigger Baseplate For Both GPU/Memory Coverage Recently, there have been reports that NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 40 series graphics card could launch as early as mid of July. This would suggest that we are just 2-3 months away from the first unveil of the next-gen lineup based on the Ada Lovelace graphics architecture. Poised to be both powerful & power-hungry, the GeForce RTX 40 series lineup is going to require some beefy cooling and it looks like NVIDIA is giving a major uplift to its existing Founders Edition design to meet the 450-600 Watt spec. The alleged 'GeForce RTX 4090 Ti' pictures show us three different segments of the FE cooler. First up, we have the silver-colored metal skeleton that goes around the heatsink to give it a nice finish. Currently, the metal plate features a small logo of the card that it is equipped on. The leaked plate suggests that it will probably go on on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Ti flagship graphics card. But, one thing to point out is that the positioning of this logo has been changed from right to left. This part will only be visible on the bottom side of the graphics card so it doesn't mean a lot where the label is positioned but from a marketing standpoint, it may look weird. The part that's most interesting is the heatsink itself. It looks like NVIDIA is now going to utilize a bigger baseplate that will not only cool the GPU but the memory dies too. Currently, NVIDIA uses thermal pads to dissipate heat from the memory dies to the heatsink on its RTX 3090 and 3090 Ti Founders Edition graphics cards. This new heatsink layout will allow NVIDIA to cool at least twelve GDDR6X memory chips. It is likely that the same configuration as the RTX 3090 Ti's PCB will be used here with 4 GDDR6 chips on the right/left side, three on the top, and 1 at the bottom. With NVIDIA expected to utilize higher-spec GDDR6X chips on its next-gen cards, the extra cooling will really be essential for the flagship AD102 parts. There's also a large aluminum heat spreader for the VRMs and two thermal pads for various components. The heatsinks on the sides also seem to be upgraded from 23 fins to 24 fins on the leaked design. We can also see heat pipes leading from the main heatsink to the one on the back. The heat is going to be dissipated from the heatsink and out of the card through a similar flow-through cooling design as the existing FE cards. With that said, the card does look like it will be 3 or even 4 slots this time around. Now it remains to be seen if the RTX 4090 Ti cooler happens to leak out much earlier or if it will be part of the lineup itself. So far, there are only reports that the RTX 4090 will be first to market with RTX 4090 Ti releasing later on. This could be an early design for the 'Ti' cooler or it is likely that NVIDIA made a few prototype coolers and decided to go with the 'non-Ti' variant first. Again, this is an alleged photo of what might be the next-gen NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series cooling design but we cannot say for sure so do treat it as a rumor for now. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Founders Edition Cooler (Image Credits: TechpowerUp): Here's Everything We Know About the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Series Graphics Cards! The AD102 'Ada Lovelace' GPU is expected to feature 144 SMs, a 71% increase over the existing GA102 GPU and house a massive 18,432 CUDA core count. The GeForce RTX 4090's GPU SKU is rumored to feature 16,128 CUDA cores which is a 50% increase in core count over the RTX 3090 but 14% lower cores than the full-fat AD102 configuration which may arrive later as the RTX 4090 Ti. It's the same situation this generation where the 'Ti' variant of the 3090 got the full-fat GA102 GPU and the non-Ti variant, although launched earlier, came with a cut-down config. In addition to the SM counts, the Ada Lovelace GPUs will also feature increased L2 cache sizes. Starting with the AD102 GPU, the flagship would be outfitted with up to 96 MB of L2 cache, an insane 16x increase over the 6 MB L2 cache featured on GA102. This cache still isn't as big as Infinity Cache featured on AMD's RDNA cards but it's still a huge leap for NVIDIA's own graphics cards. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card will additionally rock 24 GB of GDDR6X memory clocking in at 21 Gbps across a 384-bit bus interface and delivering over 1.0 TB/s bandwidth. The latest details also tone down the overall TDP numbers to 450W which means that the RTX 4090 may not go crazy with the clocks that the full-fat variant with a 600W is expected to go with. As we saw with the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, there are certain models that go beyond the 450W TBP (reference) and up to 516W (custom). The same is going to be the case with Ada Lovelace-based cards. And while this will require lots of cooling, it looks like AIBs are well and ready. We are likely going to see the use of more hybrid-styled GPU coolers rather than traditional air-coolers once we go above the 600W TBP limit. This will mark a 33% increase in TBP over the RTX 3090 Ti. As per the latest rumors, NVIDIA is expected to announce its next-gen GeForce RTX 40 series by mid of July which means we are getting a new generation of cards in early Q3 2022. 9. What happens if you cross Genshin Impact, the action RPG that's said to bring in over $1 billion in revenue every six months, with the aesthetic of a game like The World Ends with You? It seems like we're about to find out with the help of a new title called Zenless Zone Zero. Zenless Zone Zero is the latest game from Genshin Impact developer Miyoho, which recently published a debut trailer focused more on showcasing the upcoming title's style than revealing how the game is going to play or how similar it's going to be to its nigh-ubiquitous predecessor. But it doesn't seem like curious gamers will have to wait long to learn more about Miyoho's followup to Genshin Impact. The company is currently accepting sign-ups for what it calls the Zenless Zone Zero Tuning Test, which will offer players access to an early version of the game. "This beta test is Zenless Zone Zero's first small-scale test called the Tuning Test," Miyoho says. "Zenless Zone Zero is still in the development stage, and as such, content found in the beta test does not represent the final quality. Thank you for your support and understanding." Miyoho says the Zenless Zone Zero Tuning Test will be available on PC and iOS. It wouldn't be a surprise if the game makes it to other platforms later—Genshin Impact is available on PC, iOS, Android, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 and is expected to reach the Nintendo Switch as well. https://csblackdevil.com/forums/forum/506-pc-games/?do=add
