Investors in bitcoin are in panic mode as the controversial terraUSD stablecoin slips further from its intended $1 peg. TerraUSD, or UST, sank below 70 cents for the first time late Monday, as holders continued to flee the token in what some have described as a “bank run.” The token fell as low as 62 cents before regaining ground to trade at 90 cents Tuesday, according to Coinbase data. Created by Singapore-based Terraform Labs in 2018, UST is what’s known as an “algorithmic” stablecoin. Part of the Terra blockchain project, it’s meant to track the value of the dollar, like fellow stablecoins tether and USDC. However, unlike with those cryptocurrencies, Terra doesn’t have cash and other assets held in a reserve to back its token. Instead, it uses a complex mix of code — alongside a sister token called luna — to stabilize prices. UST is important for bitcoin investors as Luna Foundation Guard, an organization supporting the Terra project, is sitting on billions of dollars in bitcoin that could potentially be dumped onto the market at any point. ″Every professional investor in crypto has one eye on UST today, watching to see if it can maintain its peg to the dollar,” said Matt Hougan, chief investment officer at Bitwise Asset Management. “There’s clearly significant risk in the market.” In simple terms, the Terra protocol destroys and creates new units of UST and luna to adjust supply. When the price of UST falls below the dollar, it can be taken out of circulation and exchanged for luna, making UST’s supply more scarce and boosting its price — at least, that’s how it should work in theory. To further complicate things, Terra’s creator, Do Kwon, bought $3.5 billion worth of bitcoin to provide a backstop for UST in times of crisis. The theory was that UST could eventually be redeemed for bitcoin instead of luna, but this is untested and hasn’t yet been put into practice. Deposits into Anchor, Terra’s flagship lending protocol, have declined from 10.3 billion tokens on May 6 to just 6.4 billion Tuesday, according to data from blockchain analytics platform Nansen. Anchor offered users an almost 20% annual percentage yield on their UST holdings, a rate many analysts believe was unsustainable. On Monday, Kwon’s Luna Foundation Guard said it would lend $750 million worth of bitcoin to trading firms to “help protect the UST peg,” while a further 750 million UST will be lent out to buy more bitcoin “as market conditions normalize.” In a follow-up tweet, the organization said it had withdrawn 37,000 bitcoins — worth more than $1 billion at current prices — to lend out. “Very little” of the borrowed bitcoins have been spent, Luna Foundation Guard said, but it is “currently being used to buy” UST. Several crypto investors are worried that Luna Foundation Guard might have sold, or will sell, a large portion of its bitcoin to prop up UST — analysts pointed out that the group’s bitcoin wallet is now completely empty. Amid all of this uncertainty, UST’s decline has sent shock waves throughout the crypto market. Bitcoin, the world’s largest digital currency, briefly fell below $30,000, hitting its lowest price since July 2021. As of 7:00 a.m. ET, bitcoin was trading at $31,324, down around 5% in the last 24 hours. It’s now down more than 50% from its November all-time high. Luna, UST’s counterpart, has roughly halved in value in the past 24 hours. It was last trading at a price of $32. Adding to UST holders’ woes, Binance, the largest crypto exchange by market volume, temporarily suspended withdrawals of both UST and luna “due to a high volume of pending withdrawal transactions,” citing network congestion. Binance has since resumed withdrawals, and says it “will continue to monitor” network conditions. I think the market is expecting some forced selling here on the part of Terra and the reserve,” Nic Carter, co-founder of Coin Metrics, told CNBC. “It is a calamity but very expected. No algorithmic stablecoin has ever succeeded and this is no exception.” He added that the problem with UST is that it’s largely “backed by faith.” “It’s not fully guaranteed, it’s certainly not fully backed by reserves,” he told CNBC. “It was really just backed by faith in the issuer effectively.” Terraform Labs did not respond to multiple requests for comment. https://csblackdevil.com/forums/forum/18851-politics-economics/?do=add

As president, Donald Trump repeatedly asked aides if China could be manufacturing hurricanes and sending them to damage the United States, three unnamed former senior officials told Rolling Stone on Tuesday. Trump also reportedly wanted to know if using such a “hurricane gun” would constitute an act of war, and if so, whether the US could retaliate militarily. China is a major nuclear power. “It was almost too stupid for words,” one source told the magazine, which said the speaker was “intimately familiar with the then sitting president’s inquiry”. “I did not get the sense he was joking at all,” the source added. The news comes on the tail of former defense secretary Mark Esper’s claim, in a new book, that Trump wanted to hit “drug labs” in Mexico with missiles and then deny responsibility, and other hair-raising accounts of near foreign policy disaster. Rolling Stone quoted a second former official as saying: “I was present [once] when he asked if China ‘made’ hurricanes to send to us. [Trump] wanted to know if the technology existed. One guy in the room responded, ‘Not to the best of my knowledge, sir.’ “I kept it together until I got back to my office … I do not know where the [then-]president would have heard about that … He was asking about it around the time, maybe a little before, he asked people about nuking hurricanes.” In August 2019, the website Axios reported that in a briefing on hurricanes, Trump told top officials: “I got it. I got it. Why don’t we nuke them?” Trump was reportedly told that aides would “look into” the notion of destroying large storms with nuclear weapons, which in 2016 National Geographic called “a really bad idea” with “a surprising history”. Trump called the Axios story “ridiculous”. But his interest in hurricanes reared its head again the following week, in what would come to be known as “Sharpiegate”. At an Oval Office briefing on Hurricane Dorian, Trump held up a National Hurricane Center map that appeared to have been altered with a Sharpie pen, to show the storm hitting Alabama – a baseless claim previously made by Trump. Trump did not comment to Rolling Stone about its “hurricane gun” story. Stephanie Grisham, his press secretary at the time of Sharpiegate and his reported remark about “nuking” hurricanes, told the magazine she did not hear conversation about China making hurricanes, but it would not have surprised her if she had. “Stuff like that was not unusual for him,” Grisham said. “He would blurt out crazy things all the time, and tell aides to look into it or do something about it.” “His staff would say they’d look into, knowing that more often than not, he’d forget about it quickly – much like a toddler.”

When Smooth Ruled In the '70s, street rods experienced a revival in po[CENSORED]rity after being knocked out of the spotlight during the muscle car era. That revival came with a change. The prominent rod builders of the late 20th century were not building early roadsters and coupes in the traditional styles of earlier years but rather in a modern style characterized by high-tech chassis with independent front and rear suspensions, extensive use of hand built components (with an abundance of billet aluminum), reshaped bodies, and the elimination of emblems and trim. The result was a super-clean, streamlined style that almost instantly became known as "smooth." Of all the designers and builders associated with the "smooth" style, some of the most famous are Boyd Coddington, Lil' John Buttera, Chip Foose, and Larry Erickson. Of all the owners, probably the most successful was Fred Warren, owner of the AeroCoupe, Smoothster, and Shockwave, among others. No other car owner in the history of this hobby has earned a Ridler Award from the Detroit Autorama, plus two America's Most Beautiful Roadster awards from the Grand National Roadster Show—an accomplishment Warren achieved with three of the most famous cars from the smooth era. Fred Warren's 1937 Ford coupe, known as the AeroCoupe, won the Don Ridler Memorial Award at the Detroit Autorama in 1994. It was Warren's second attempt at that prestigious award. He had entered a 1933 Ford coupe in Detroit a couple of years prior. He didn't win. "That didn't sit right with me," he told us. So he went home and started working on the '37 that had been sitting in a corner of his shop. The car was built in Warren's shop in Warren, Ohio, with the help of Tim Novick from Car Crafters. The style of the car was inspired by a drawing of a 1940 coupe by artist Dave Bell. Novick's body mods include extensive sheetmetal reshaping. The top was chopped 2 1/4 inches, the lower body sectioned 1 1/2 inches in front, the nose pinched, and the whole thing was channeled 4 inches over the custom frame. Virtually every exterior component was eliminated or hidden, including the custom headlights, which were hidden behind the handmade grille. The polished aluminum 406-inch Hawk engine was a collaboration between Li'l John Buttera and the Mr. Gasket company. It originally ran Bosch eight-stack injection on a modified Inglese manifold, which has since been swapped for three Demon carburetors (the fuel injection system has been rebuilt and will be offered to the next owner). Hot Rods by Boyd hand built the independent front and rear suspension, and provided the billet wheels. The smooth theme continues into the completely modernized interior, featuring beige upholstery. There is not a single gauge in the dash. Car Crafters built a panel above the windshield and installed a Dakota Digital gauge panel. The billet steering wheel is another Boyd Coddington contribution. Warren was back in Detroit in the winter of 1994, ready to take a second stab at impressing the Ridler Award judges. This time he succeeded, and AeroCoupe was awarded the Autorama's coveted top prize. After bringing home the Ridler Award with AeroCoupe, Warren was eager to build more show cars and win more awards. Less than a year after his victory in Detroit, he won the Americas's Most Beautiful Roadster in Oakland with another '37 Ford. Smoothster, as that bright-yellow roadster is known, was designed by Larry Erickson and Chip Foose, and was already in progress at Hot Rods by Boyd when Boyd Coddington suggested that Warren buy the car. The Smoothster body was hand-fabricated from aluminum (with steel fenders and running boards) by Craig Naff, an East Coast metal man. Naff had worked with Boyd on several projects, including the body fabrication on the famous CadZZilla 1948 Cadillac. Like the AeroCoupe, the Smoothster's body was shaved of all external ornamentation—unless you count the chromed brass grille bars, the topmost of which extends the entire length of the car to the deck. The car is never seen without its top, but the hand made aluminum piece, covered with cloth by Marcel De Ley of Marcel's Fabrication, is removable. According to Warren, the original plans called for bright-red paint. It was Chip Foose (who had done renderings) who contended that the car should be yellow. The sanitary engine compartment is packed with a 350-inch Corvette LT1 engine, dressed up with custom components. The engine is tied to a 700R4 automatic transmission. The Boyd-built modern chassis includes Corvette front and rear suspension parts with Air Ride (now RideTech) parts. As on AeroCoupe, the one-off billet wheels were built by Boyd from a Li'l John Buttera design. Upholsterer Jim Griffin contributed the leather interior and, according to Warren, the Smoothster moniker. In addition to winning the 1995 AMBR award, Smoothster was highlighted in numerous hot-rodding magazine articles and ads, featured as a limited-edition Hot Wheels collectible car, and is one of the best-known hot rods of the last 27 years. ShockWave was Warren's second AMBR award winner, dominating the 50th annual Grand National Roadster Show in 1999. The car is identified as a 1934 Ford roadster, although like AeroCoupe and Smoothster, it has been wildly restyled. The inspiration came from a design by Chip Foose, which originated as a student drawing project from Foose's days at Art Center College of Design. The build was executed by a number of the biggest names in '90s hot-rodding. Much of the initial build was done at Hot Rods by Boyd, while Foose was working there. The project was continued at Chuck Lombardo's California Street Rods and ultimately finished at Foose's own shop, Foose Design, which opened in 1998. The car's name came from an earthquake that shook Warren awake one night during a trip to California to check on the build. The steel-and-aluminum body, built by Marcel De Ley, is the most sleek, open, and low-slung of Warren's award-winning trio. The only brightwork on the body is the custom '33-'34 style stainless steel grille from Dan Fink. The candy-tangerine paint is a custom color, mixed and sprayed by Greg Morrell at California Street Rods. A Hot Rods by Boyd chassis carries ShockWave, and has all the signature Boyd suspension parts, including eye-catching billet independent suspension components, along with front and rear coilovers. Pirelli tires roll on Boyd custom wheels. As with Smoothster, ShockWave is powered by a contemporary Corvette engine, in this case a Chevy LT4, distinguished by hand-fabricated custom valve and engine covers. The automatic transmission is a GM 4L60E. Acclaimed hot rod upholsterer Paul Atkins wrapped the hand built bucket seats, door panels, and center console in tan leather. The dash is elegant in its simplicity, with a center panel of gauges from Classic Instruments. Watching these three historic cars cross the stage at the Mecum Auctions event in Indy will no doubt be a bittersweet experience for Fred Warren. "They were trendsetters. They are the only cars like this in the world," he said, "and they have been part of my life. When I would go to California while the cars were being built, I'd walk in the door of the shop and it was like electricity. I'd get so pumped up I couldn't sleep at night." Warren wants the cars to continue to be enjoyed, by whoever buys them, and by everyone who will continue to appreciate them. AeroCoupe is scheduled to be auctioned on Friday, May 20. Smoothster and ShockWave are scheduled for Saturday, May 21. We'll be watching on the MotorTrend+ streaming service (sign up for a free trial today!) and on television on MotorTrend TV.

”Industria noastră de apărare are două viteze.

In recent decades, machine learning and deep learning algorithms have become increasingly advanced, so much so that they are now being introduced in a variety of real-world settings. In recent years, some computer scientists and electronics engineers have been exploring the development of an alternative type of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, known as diffractive optical neural networks. Diffractive optical neural networks are deep neural networks based on diffractive optical technology (i.e., lenses or other components that can alter the phase of light propagating through them). While these networks have been found to achieve ultra-fast computing speeds and high energy efficiencies, typically they are very difficult to program and adapt to different use cases. Researchers at Southeast University, Peking University and Pazhou Laboratory in China have recently developed a diffractive deep neural network that can be easily programmed to complete different tasks. Their network, introduced in a paper published in Nature Electronics, is based on a flexible and multi-layer metasurface array. "Our hope was to realize a diffractive neural network in which each unit can be independently and flexibly programmed," Tie Jun Cui, one of the researchers who carried out the study, told TechXplore. "Drawing inspiration from our past research on digital programmable metasurfaces, information metasurfaces and experience in electromagnetic regulation, we created a programmable diffractive neural network machine by constructing multilayer programmable transmissive metasurfaces, which we named programmable artificial intelligence machine (PAIM)." The researchers' diffractive neural network performs calculations that closely resemble those performed by optical diffractive neural networks. More specifically, their network performs matrix network operations when electromagnetic waves propagate through its multi-layer metasurfaces, which resemble the light speed calculations performed by optical diffractive networks. "The key breakthrough of our work is that each neuron is independently reprogrammable," Cui explained. "Therefore, the entire neural network can be trained and programmed on-site and can also be repeatedly trained according to different task requirements. We design a metasurface unit (neuron) with reprogrammable transmission coefficients that integrates a power amplifier chip." Every amplifier in the researchers' network can be digitally controlled through a field-programable gate array (FPGA). FPGAs are systems that contain an array of different programmable logic blocks or units. In the system created by Cui and his colleagues, every individual unit can be independently controlled, which allows engineers to program the entire neural network and allow it to perform well in specific tasks. "The biggest highlight of our study was the realization of a programmable diffractive neural network in a convenient and efficient way," Cui said. "In the past, optical diffraction deep neural networks were mainly composed of optical media such as silicon dioxide, which were non-adjustable materials. Therefore, this type of optical neural network needs to be trained with the help of a computer, and the final network distribution is obtained before processing." Most previously developed diffractive optical neural networks remained fixed once they are trained. As a result, they can only complete a set number of tasks, those they were originally trained on. In contrast, as it is based on digital metasurfaces, the network created by Cui and his colleagues can be programmed to complete different tasks. "Programmable metasurfaces can control electromagnetic waves with a simple architecture, low cost and high efficiency, which is a potential choice for building programmable neural networks," Cui added. "Our PAIM can also directly modulate free-space electromagnetic waves with light speed, which is a potential low-latency signal processing unit used for 5G and 6G wireless communications." In initial evaluations, the diffractive neural network introduced by this team of researchers achieved very promising results, as it was found to be highly flexible and applicable across a wide range of scenarios. In the future, it could thus be used to solve a variety of real-world problems, including image classification, wave sensing and wireless communication coding/decoding. Meanwhile, Cui and his colleagues will work on improving its performance further. "The prototype implemented in this work is based on a 5-layer diffractive neural network, each layer has 64 programmable neural networks, and the total number of nodes in the network is relatively low," Cui added. "At the same time, the operating frequency band of this network is lower, resulting in a larger size of the physical network. In our next studies, we plan to further increase the scale of the programmable neurons of the network, improve the network integration, reduce the size and form a set of intelligent computers with stronger computing power and more practicality for sensing and communications." https://csblackdevil.com/forums/forum/828-software/?do=add

AMD's next-generation Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series 'HEDT' CPUs powered by the Zen 4 core architecture have also been detailed by Moore's Law is Dead. AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 CPUs To Rock Up To 96 Zen 4 Cores In PRO-Only Flavors AMD just recently introduced its Threadripper PRO 5000 CPUs based on the Zen 3 core architecture and gave Lenovo the launch exclusivity. With that said, the company definitely has plans to launch its next-generation Ryzen Threadripper 7000 lineup but as per the latest rumors, these SKUs will be branded under the 'PRO' banner too. AMD Next-Gen 5nm Ryzen 7000 Desktop CPUs For AM5 Platform Allegedly Launch As Early As September 2022 According to MLID, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 Desktop CPUs will feature up to 96 cores and 192 threads based on the Zen 4 core architecture and fabricated on TSMC's 5nm node. The CPUs will be replacing the existing 'Chagall' lineup and will be designed purely for high-end and extreme workstation users. Since the core count is the same as the EPYC Genoa parts, they are likely to utilize the same die but with specific parts disabled for standard consumers. This is where the new platform comes in to play. For EPYC, AMD is going to switch to its new SP5 socket. A new socket will also be designed around the Threadripper platform and may be known as the TR5 or SP5r2. The existing TR4 socket lasted two generations with Zen 2 & Zen 3 Threadripper options. AMD is likely to retain a similar cadence for the upcoming socket which will support new technologies such as DDR5 and PCIe 5.0. We can expect later Threadripper CPUs to feature up to 128 cores based on the Bergamo die (Zen 4C) but that remains to be seen. We have also seen a few Genoa SP5 boards featuring dual LGA-6096 sockets so those may also come to the Threadripper family considering Intel is going the same route with its Xeon-W Sapphire Rapids chips. Threadripper for HEDT/Workstation was introduced more than a year after the launch of the mainstream Zen 3 family. If that's the case, we are likely going to see Ryzen Threadripper 7000 CPUs based on the Zen 4 core architecture launching in either Q4 2023 or Q1 2024. That would mark slightly more than a year after the launch of Zen 4 Ryzen 7000 CPUs for the mainstream AM5 platform. With that said, AMD is likely to offer Lenovo the exclusivity or a timed one, once again. https://csblackdevil.com/forums/forum/827-hardware/?do=add

Graffiti Games and PID Games have announced the upcoming launch of Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion on mobile, landing on both iOS and Android devices on May 24th. The po[CENSORED]r indie title lets players embark on a humorous adventure while solving puzzles and fighting bosses at the same time. Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion features charming visuals and an "offbeat universe" where players step into the shoes (or lack thereof) of a turnip who fails to do due diligence in paying taxes. You then get evicted, and you must do everything you can to pay back your debt (the mayor is an onion, by the way). The game also features mutant bosses, a deep narrative and even a roguelike mode to spice up your gameplay. There are tons of talking fruits and veggies to encounter, as well as massive dungeons to explore and tax documents to eliminate. You can also collect hats just because they're cute - plus, you can experiment with the multiple endings to see if you've got what it takes to properly commit tax evasion and take down a corrupt government. If you're curious to see what the game is all about, you can soon download Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion on the Google Play Store and on the iOS App Store when it launches on May 24th. For now, you can pre-register for the game while you wait, or check it out over on its official Steam page. The next few days see a few new cool skins added to Fortnite. We see another addition to the Icon Series and also one of the most infamous skins from the original season returns with a twist. Keep reading to find out more about them! The skin, rather the Level Up Quest Pack that players can get their hands on, belongs to Omega Knight. All OG players who played the season four of Fortnite’s first chapter knows about this skin and how hard it was to fully level it up (I missed by two levels). But the legendary skin has returned with looks even more deadly now. Besides being a beauty to look at, the pack also allows players to gain up to 28 levels if they complete all quests while also earning cosmetic items for the skins. Seven challenges will be released every week for four weeks and players can earn battle pass XP while also getting cosmetic items like Knight’s Torment Back Bling and Pickaxe, and the Aurum Eques style. The second skin, belonging to the Icon Series is Chica, who will be available in the Item Shop from day after, May 7th. This outfit doesn’t come with just one look, but many as it features five unique styles – the Prismatic Streak Style, Royale Streak Style, Shades Style, and Hunter Mask Style, all giving Chica a different look. She also comes with her own Sar Back Bling and Aida’s Edge Pickaxe with a Royale Streak alt style. And if you want to dance over your enemy then be sure to get The Pollo Dance Emote. Make sure you have those Vbucks as the Omega Knight skin is already in the shop while the Chica Set will be available soon. Android users can download Fortnite for free from Epic’s official website. https://csblackdevil.com/forums/forum/506-pc-games/?do=add

Ford Motor is selling 8 million of its Rivian Automotive shares, with the insider lockup for the stock of the once high-flying electric vehicle maker is set to expire on Sunday, sources told CNBC’s David Faber. The automaker currently owns 102 million shares of Rivian. Ford will be selling the shares through Goldman Sachs, sources said. The lockup defines a period of time after a company has gone public when early investors and company insiders cannot sell their shares. That ensures the IPO is carried out in an orderly manner and does not flood the market with additional shares. Ford declined to comment, when contacted by CNBC. JPMorgan Chase also plans to sell a Rivian share block of between 13 million and 15 million for an unknown seller, sources told Faber. Both blocks of stocks are priced at $26.90 a share. Shares of the EV manufacturer have plummeted by more than 50% in the first three months of 2022, reversing course from the fourth quarter, when the company held its stock market debut and saw its value skyrocket. Rivian said in March it expected to produce 25,000 electric trucks and SUVs this year, as the start-up battles through supply chain constraints and internal production snags. That would be just half of the vehicle production it forecast to investors last year as part of its IPO roadshow. — CNBC’s Michael Wayland and Ari Levy contributed to this report. https://csblackdevil.com/forums/forum/18851-politics-economics/?do=add

In its native range—from the southern United States to northern South America—the cane toad is, well, just a big, ordinary toad. COMMON NAME: Cane Toad SCIENTIFIC NAME: Rhinella marina TYPE: Amphibians DIET: Omnivore GROUP NAME: Knot, nest AVERAGE LIFE SPAN IN THE WILD: 5 to 10 years SIZE: 4 to 6 inches WEIGHT: 2.9 pounds The cane toad hatches from an egg laid in water, begins its life as a tadpole, and eats pesky insects. Cane toads are active at night. Cane toads have poison that can kill animals that try eating them. Predators in the toad's original range—including caimans, certain snakes, eels, and fishes—find cane toads tasty. Some are immune to their venom; others avoid the most venomous parts and can tolerate the venom they do eat. In late March, the males begin calling their mates. Once a male attracts a female, they mate as the female lays her eggs. She lays from 4,000 to 36,000 eggs at a time in the water of a stream or pond. Tadpoles hatch from the eggs within about three days. As tadpoles, cane toads eat algae and other plants that grow in water. Cane toad tadpoles metamorphose, or change, into fully formed frogs in 12 to 60 days. https://csblackdevil.com/forums/forum/18113-animals/?do=add

What Happens To Concept Cars When They Are Done Being Shown-Off? Sadly, most concept cars are lost. Why? Well, since most don't carry real VIN numbers, they can't be sold or even driven on the roads. So, once their jobs are done the manufactures have to either pay to store them or just send them to the crusher after being stripped of any useful bits. Some manage to survive due to sneaky employees, and some notable ones have been put into the historic collections of manufacturers, but typically they just cease to exist. Such was the case with the original 1954 Corvette Corvair concept cars. It seems that five (a number open to debate) were built by GM to show off the fastback body style, and the first one was unveiled at the 1954 Motorama Show held at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York. GM loved to do variations of their new Corvette, including a convertible, a sporty fastback, and a sweet two-door station wagon. Most just faded away, although the station wagon ultimately morphed into a full-size ride called the Nomad. The fastback body style shown here carried on, but was produced as an entirely different car than the one with four seats, rear-mounted engine, and futuristic design that you see here, called the Corvair (a portmanteau of "Corvette" and "Bel Air"). This particular 1954 Corvette was hand built to replicate the Motorama Corvair coupe, and was constructed by Brett Henderson of Blue Flame Restorations, with every effort taken to faithfully replicate the concept car. It's fitted with an original 1956 rearend and a set of AC Delco shocks, as well as original 1954 front suspension and steering parts. Front disc brakes help it stop more assuredly, while the 265ci (4.3-liter) V-8 engine is fed by a Holley four-barrel carburetor and is backed by a 700R four-speed automatic transmission linked to a two-speed Powerglide shifter. The 15-inch steel wheels are wrapped with a period-correct set of Firestone whitewall tires, lending it even more period-correct originality. Finished in a fresh coat of Crystal Red, the interior uses custom-designed Al Knoch bucket seats, custom window glass, gauges from a 1956 installed in the factory 1954 dashboard, and more. Entered into the 2015 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, the car was also named a personal favorite by legendary custom car builder George Barris at the Corvette Funfest, also in 2015. This faithful recreation of the iconic 1954 Motorama Corvair is being sold at Dana Mecum's 35th Original Spring Classic Auction in Indianapolis, May 13-21. To find out more about this vehicle, or become a bidder at the 2022 Mecum Auctions event in Indy, head to its listing as Lot S271. The Corvair is scheduled to head to the auction block Saturday, May 21; be sure to sign up to MotorTrend+ for a free trial to catch all the action from Indy! 1954 Chevrolet Corvette Corvair Concept Replica Mecum Highlights Hand built by Brett Henderson of Blue Flame Restorations, with every effort taken to faithfully replicate the original GM Motorama concept car 265ci V-8 engine Holley four-barrel carburetor 700R four-speed automatic transmission linked to a two-speed Powerglide shifter 15-inch steel wheels Period-correct Firestone whitewalls Fresh paint Entered into the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in March 2015 Original 1956 rearend and AC Delco shocks Original 1954 front suspension and steering parts Front disc brakes Gauges from a 1956 model were laid into the factory 1954 dash Custom-designed Al Knoch bucket seats Custom window glass Named a personal favorite by legendary custom car builder George Barris at the Corvette Funfest in 2015 Why Didn't GM Ever Produce The Corvette Corvair? When the 1953 Corvette was released to the public, its styling and fiberglass construction were groundbreaking, but just 300 were sold. It looked amazing, but compared to the sports cars coming out of Europe, competitive performance was sadly missing from the mix, partly due to the Blue Flame inline-six-cylinder engine and two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. With no manual transmission to compete with German, Italian, and British offerings, the Corvette wasn't a viable choice for many. As such, sales were lackluster, and Chevrolet was considering killing off the Corvette. Related: The Chevrolet Corvette—History, Buying Tips, and More Enter Zora Arkus-Duntov (remember him and his Ardun flathead Ford OHV engine kit?). Zora knew a few things about performance and had grand ideas about adding V-8 engines and manual transmissions to the Corvette so it could better-compete in the sports car segment. However, his rescue of the Corvette didn't happen fast enough to save the Corvette Corvair design, and the concept cars were sent into oblivion. The red one replicated here vanished right after the Motorama show, and a Seafoam Green version (some say it was in fact the same car, repainted) was shown around the country before pulling the same disappearing act. https://csblackdevil.com/forums/forum/901-auto-moto/?do=add
