Delhi is home to heritage sites such as Humayun’s Tomb, the alleys of Shahjahanabad, Qutub Minar and numerous other monuments, some preserved and some in ruins. And it’s not unusual to hear of heritage walks organised by historians and culture enthusiasts. But this industry is witnessing a diversification in the walk leader community. While curated walks are no longer exclusive to historians, influencers, too, are turning into amateur walk leaders. Social media is seeing a trend in the “romanticising” of the city, its past, its culture, and its aesthetics, much of which is replete with misinformation and false narratives. Presenting a glorified facet of history, it deviates from reality itself.“I started City Tales as an Instagram page to document my explorations in 2019 and began leading walks in 2022,” says Rameen Khan, 36, who approaches heritage walks through history-based storytelling. An MBA by qualification, Rameen has been leading heritage walks in Mehrauli Archaeological Park, Purana Qila and Safdarjung’s Tomb. “I have no academic background in history and I make sure to tell this to people,” says Rameen. He’s critical of walk leaders who use an intellectual aura to build credibility. This practice of presenting incorrect facts is harming the industry, he adds. For instance, the false narratives surrounding Malcha Mahal that the monument is haunted, takes away from its Tughlak-era history of being a hunting lodge, and the explorations into the mysterious royal family that lived there in the ruins, until recently.Author Rana Safvi, who has led numerous walks in Delhi, says, “There are two kinds of walks taking place today. The first led by people who have a background in history and are well-read, and the other curated by leaders who are unaware of actual history and provide half-baked information gathered from the internet but say it with so much authority that it seems true.”Shah Umair, a numismatist, po[CENSORED]rly known as Sikkawala, started leading heritage walks to places like Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah and Purani Dilli post the pandemic. Shah, who owns a creative agency in Gurgaon and pursues walk-leading as a passion, says, “The people coming in are not well-read and just gather information from Wikipedia, which is making the industry suffer… People have come for my walks, recorded my script, and then conducted their own walks with the plagiarised content.” Recognising a need for a local from Delhi-6, Anas Khan started leading heritage walks in 2021, using stories to talk about the city’s culture and history. An anthropologist, Anas began Unzip Delhi, a platform to hold walks in Old Delhi, including places such as Ghalib Ki Haveli, Zafar Mahal and the northern Ridge. Anas asserts that newcomers should be offered support and resources to prevent the dissemination of misinformation and allow for a healthy growth of the heritage walks community. He adds, “Storytelling is justified once the storyteller tells the audience that their content may not be factually correct and it is a folk tale.” The absence of a disclaimer would mean distorting history, reiterates Anas. https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/art-and-culture/is-the-profile-of-delhis-heritage-walks-changing-9361628/

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s key economic indicators have been showcasing stability in the real, fiscal, and external sectors as the country is heading towards the end of FY2024, the Ministry of Finance said in its latest report on Wednesday. The report titled 'Monthly Economic Update and Outlook report for May 2024', the finance ministry’s Economic Adviser’s Wing noted that signs of economic stability were becoming more evident amid stability in the key sectors.According to the report, GDP growth is elevating while inflation rates are on a decline with a positive primary balance, reflecting the effectiveness of recent fiscal consolidation efforts. The economic performance also indicates that agriculture has been a major contributor to this fiscal year’s economic upswing, registering a growth of 6.25%. The agriculture sector’s recovery is mainly attributed to government initiatives through improved input supply and increased credit disbursement to farmers. Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) growth in 2024 Quarter 3, became positive and is expected to remain moderately positive on average throughout the second half of the current fiscal year. It witnessed a minor decline of 0.1% during July-March FY 2024 against the contraction of 7.0% same period last year. During this period, 11 to 22 sectors witnessed positive growth. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation stood at 17.3% on a year-on-year basis in April 2024 as compared to 36.4% in April 2023. The major drivers include housing, water, electricity, gas & fuel, perishable food items, furnishing & household equipment maintenance, clothing, footwear and transport. On the fiscal front, during July to March FY24, the revenue growth outpaced the growth in expenditures. Within revenues, both tax and non-tax collection grew significantly by 29.3% and 90.7%, respectively. Moreover, measures to control non-mark-up spending helped in improving the primary surplus to Rs1615.4 billion (1.5% of GDP) from Rs503.8 billion (0.6% of GDP) last year. While, the overall fiscal deficit remained at 3.7% of GDP, the same as recorded last year. On the external front, the current account for FY2024 (July-April) narrowed down significantly, recording a deficit of $0.2 billion compared to last year’s $3.9 billion, primarily due to an improved trade balance. In April 2024, the current account surplus was recorded at $491 million, an increase from $434 million in March 2024. Year-on-year, exports in April 2024 increased by 23.4% to $2.6 billion, fueled by eased import restrictions that enhanced the supply chain for export industries. In the same period, imports also rose by 22.8% to $4.4 billion. The trade deficit for April 2024 was recorded at $1.8 billion. Furthermore, the FDI witnessed an increase of 39.1% and reached $358.8 million in April 2024, as against an inflow of $258.0 million last month. The remittances in April 2024 were encouraging, as they increased on a year-on-year basis by 27.9% to $2.8 billion. On the back of a persistent policy rate at 22%, during 1st July – 03rd May, FY2024 money supply (M2) shows a growth of 7.1% (Rs 2,229.8 billion) as compared to 7.0% growth (Rs1,943.4 billion) in last year. Although the signs of a moderate economic recovery are evident. But to sustain this positive momentum, the policy efforts and reforms to raise productivity, and competitiveness are imperative. In Jul-Apr FY2024, workers’ remittances recorded at $23.8 billion ($23.0 billion last year), increased by 3.5%. YoY remittances increased by 27.9% in April 2024 ($2.8 billion) as compared to April 2023 ($2.2 billion). However, MoM remittances declined by 4.8% as compared to March 2024 ($3.0 billion) mainly owing to post Eid factors. Pakistan’s total liquid foreign exchange reserves increased to $14.3 billion on May 24, 2024, with SBP’s reserves stood at $9.1 billion and commercial banks’ reserves remained at $5.2 billion. https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/1194619-finance-ministry-hopeful-of-economic-rebound-amid-stability-in-key-sectors

Two new giant pandas will arrive at the Smithsonian’s National zoo in Washington DC later this year, marking a very welcome return after the zoo’s remaining pandas returned to China last fall. The Smithsonian announced on Wednesday that the pandas, named Bao Li and Qing Bao, would arrive in the US capital by the end of the year. Both pandas currently reside in China, but Bao Li already has a connection to Washington as his mother Bao Bao was born at the National zoo in 2013. a big furry animal with a white face and black ears and paws Giant pandas from China to visit San Diego zoo under conservation partnership Read more “We’re thrilled to announce the next chapter of our breeding and conservation partnership begins by welcoming two new bears, including a descendent of our beloved panda family to Washington DC,” Brandie Smith, the National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute’s John and Adrienne Mars director, said in a statement. The news offered a glimmer of hope for US-Chinese relations, which have cooled in recent years amid mounting concerns over the future of Taiwan and economic competition. Last fall, when the zoo said goodbye to its last remaining pandas, there was speculation that China would not sign off on sending more of the animals to Washington, despite the country’s 50-year partnership with the Smithsonian. In its press release, the zoo confirmed that the agreement on the new pandas, which is effective through April 2034, mirrored the terms of past projects. The pandas and any cubs they produce will remain under the ownership of China, and cubs born at the zoo will return to China by the age of four. The agreement will also allow the Smithsonian to conduct panda-related research projects with partners in China. The Smithsonian released a video, featuring Jill Biden, the first lady, and Lonnie G Bunch III, Smithsonian secretary, on their social media channels to celebrate the news. “It’s especially meaningful to have them at the National zoo, where people can visit the pandas in person for free or watch them on the Panda Cam with millions of people across the globe,” Bunch said in the video. “We can’t wait to celebrate this historic moment here in our nation’s capital,” the first lady added. “It’s official: the pandas are coming back to DC.” FedEx will once again serve as the zoo’s transportation partner to safely bring the animals to the US, a service that the company lovingly referred to as “the FedEx Panda Express”. Richard W Smith, president and CEO of FedEx, said: “It’s a privilege to take part in this next phase of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute’s giant panda program and provide the safest and most comfortable transportation for these beloved animals.” https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/may/29/giant-pandas-smithsonian-dc-zoo

Porsche just gave the 911 a big update for 2025, including a new hybrid system for the GTS trim, a first for the nameplate. While a battery-powered 911 is cool, we're more excited for what's coming next for the 992 platform: A new GT2 RS. Like the 991-generation 911 before it, the 992 is expected to receive a heavy-hitter turbocharged GT2 trim in the second half of its lifecycle, or sometime in the next year. This test mule spotted at the Nurburgring is proof. The CarSpyMedia YouTube channel spotted this 911 driving on and around the Nurburgring in Germany recently. From the outside, it looks exactly like the current GT3 RS which, if you know your Porsches, is a naturally aspirated model. It even has huge decals on each side reading "GT3 RS." Listen closely to the exhaust, though, and it's easy to hear that something's off.Gone is the high-pitch wail from the 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six, in its place a more guttural, deeper, less vocal exhaust note. This car sounds nothing like the current GT3 RS. In fact, it sounds far closer to the last-generation GT2 RS. It's not surprising to see Porsche testing the upcoming GT2 RS in the GT3 RS's body. The last-generation car used much of the GT3's body and aerokit, albeit with some small changes to the front and rear fascias. The last-generation GT2 RS was the apex predator of the 991-generation 911 lineup. In 2017 it set the record for fastest rear-drive production car at the Nurburgring thanks to its wild aero and 700-horsepower twin-turbo flat-six. Then it set the overall record in 2021 with help from an upgrade kit from Manthey Performance. Considering just how far the 992's aerodynamics and suspension have advanced since then, this new one should be even crazier. https://www.motor1.com/news/721460/992-porsche-911-gt2-rs-test-mule-nurburgring/

England spinner Sophie Ecclestone broke the record for the fastest woman to 100 ODI wickets as England clinched a series win over Pakistan in the third ODI in Chelmsford. Ecclestone reached the milestone in 64 matches to level Australian great Cathryn Fitzpatrick, but beats the record in terms of number of innings bowled (63).Ecclestone removed Pakistan's Umm-e-Hani (4) and Nashra Sandhu (0) with consecutive deliveries in the 28th over to reach the 100 mark and find herself on a hat-trick - which Diana Baig denied her by blocking out the third delivery.England clinched an emphatic 178-run victory shortly after, as Ecclestone (3-15) claimed her third, the hosts triumphing 2-0 in the three-match ODI series to go with their 3-0 whitewash win in the preceding T20s.Heather's Knight side earlier posted 302-5 with the bat, Nat Sciver-Brunt (124no) smashing her ninth ODI ton before Pakistan were dismissed for 124 in reply.Lauren Bell (2-26) prized out openers Sadaf Shamas (2) and Sidra Ameen (10) as Pakistan slipped to 35-3 inside seven overs, before Muneeba Ali (47) provided some resistance with an enterprising cameo, the left-hander taking a particular liking to off-spinner Charlie Dean. https://www.skysports.com/cricket/news/12123/13145156/england-vs-pakistan-sophie-ecclestone-breaks-record-for-fastest-woman-to-100-odi-wickets-as-hosts-clinch-series-win

We all know the heart-healthy staples: vegetables, low-fat dairy, and lean protein like fish. Fatty fish like salmon boast an extra benefit – omega-3 fatty acids, thought to improve good cholesterol and lower triglycerides. But recent research suggests a more nuanced picture for fish oil supplements and heart disease prevention. A new study in BMJ throws a curveball. While fish oil has been linked to positive outcomes for those already with heart disease, the study found that people with no existing heart problems who took regular fish oil supplements actually saw an increased risk of atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) by 13% and stroke by 5%. This doesn’t necessarily mean fish itself is bad. However, for those without a history of heart disease, fish oil supplements might not offer the same preventive benefits we previously thought. The news is brighter for those already battling heart disease. Previous studies, corroborated by this latest research, show that regular fish oil supplementation can actually reduce the risk of progressing to more serious heart issues by 15%. This could mean a lower chance of a heart attack, worsening heart failure, or even death. However, Dr Rahul Agarwal, Consultant Internal Medicine, CARE Hospitals, Hitech City, Hyderabad, noted that fish oil supplements are not recommended to stop or mitigate risks related to heart diseases. Festive offer What are the problems fish oil supplements can cause? Overconsumption of fish oil can lead to problems such as elevated blood sugar levels, decrease in blood pressure, bleeding of gums and acid reflux, said Dr Agarwal. Other problems include nausea, heartburn, and toxic reactions due to elevated Vitamin A in fish oil supplements. https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/food-wine/fish-oil-supplements-dangerous-heart-9347317/

ISLAMABAD: The petroleum products prices are likely to be reduced by up to Rs5 per litre on June 1, Geo News has learnt. The Petroleum Division sources said on Wednesday that the per litre price of petrol is likely to go down by Rs5 while diesel is expected to be slashed by Rs4 per litre. However, they said the next two days are important regarding any change in the fuel prices as the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) will forward its summary to the Finance Division on May 31. The final decision on the petroleum products prices will be made following the Ministry of Finance’s consultation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. If approved, this will be the third consecutive reduction in fuel prices. Earlier this month, the federal government had approved a massive cut of Rs15.39 per litre in the petrol price and the price of diesel was reduced by Rs.788 per litre. Currently, petrol is available at Rs273.10 per litre while diesel is being sold at Rs274.08 per litre. The prices of petroleum products are revised every 15 days in Pakistan adjusting them to the trend of global oil prices and the rupee’s exchange rate to the dollar. The Pakistani rupee has held steady recently. About 85% of Pakistan's oil needs are imported, and the country has been struggling with a balance of payments problem and skyrocketing inflation, which was recorded at 17.3% year-on-year in April. https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/1194593-petrol-diesel-prices-expected-to-decline-in-pakistan

After China’s Xi Jinping and Russia’s Vladimir Putin pledged a “new era” of partnership, experts are questioning the depth of the relationship between the two most powerful rivals of the United States and its economic impact. China and Russia have a long and complex relationship. The assumption is that the two major powers sitting next to each other, each with a giant landmass, areas with extreme weather, and a long shared international border, would be natural allies. While this has not been the case historically, now, after decades of rivalry, the two were finally drawn together in the face of Western sanctions on Russia. Moscow needs powerful allies to help it configure sanctions workarounds, while Beijing, too, is on the lookout for allies to create a new order that challenges the US. The latest meeting, for which Putin travelled to China, is “a significant diplomatic signal of the importance of this relationship”, said Elina Ribakova, a nonresident senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, especially as it came on the heels of visits by US officials, including by Secretary of State Antony Blinken last month. The 43rd meeting between the two leaders also came in the wake of an executive order by US President Joe Biden threatening penalties for financial institutions that help Russia evade sanctions.“He wanted to go to China to reassure them that [Moscow] would not do anything to get it into trouble “Russia is a junior partner and this trip was a reminder [from it] to China that we’re here for you and we pledge eternal friendship,” said Ribakova, adding the latter sentiment has been echoed previously.Last year, bilateral trade was at a record high of $240bn and China is now Russia’s number one trade partner. But Russia is only number six for China, as per a report by the Council on Foreign Relations. Russia has also increased its international trade in roubles and the yuan’s share in the imports side has risen from 5 percent to 20-25 percent since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, noted Ribakova in a December paper she co-authored for the Center for a New American Security. The share of yuan in the domestic market has also increased from less than 1 percent pre-February 2022 to more than 30 percent now, the paper noted. While they were pushed together by sanctions, the fact is that “Russia needs China more”, said Ribakova. Firstly, as a buyer of its oil, especially as sanctions have curtailed its market, and also as a supplier of military components. About “70 percent to 90 percent of components in the Russian military is Western made”, said Ribakova, explaining that China produces these parts for Western clients and manufacturers ship them to Russia, a process that offers “deniability for the West”. “Russia will want to do everything it can to keep China close, especially as it is facing the very real threat of global isolation particularly from more consequential powers,” Michael Kugelman, the director of the South Asia Institute at the Wilson Center, told Al Jazeera. “If the war [in Ukraine] continues to rage on, Moscow will need economic support. But it doesn’t have that many friends who can provide the kind of support it needs, China being one of the few,” he said. At the same time, while it is convenient for Beijing to have a competitive fuel source in the Middle East, it does not want Russia to become overly dependent on it and “doesn’t want that burdensome situation where Russia becomes a ward of China”, added Kugelman. https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2024/5/28/china-russia-new-era-relationship

As the occassion of Eid ul Adha draws near with masses bringing home cattle to offer the sacrifice, robbers have now activated for snatching and thefts as two such incidents surfaced in Lahore, where citizens lost their sacrificial goats to armed men. A shocking and disturbing video made rounds on social media platforms, showing sacrificial animals being snatched at gunpoint from a youngster by a group of robbers. It showed the robbers in a vehicle stopping next to a young boy walking with goats in a lane. They first slapped the boy after exiting their car and threatened the citizen. The robbers then seized the goats and forced the sacrificial animals into the vehicle while brandishing a pistol to intimidate him and prevent any resistance. Once the perpetrators were done, they hastily fled the neighbourhood, leaving the boy in a state of shock. He then ran in panic towards the opposite side of the lane. Netizens expressed outrage after the CCTV footage hit social media, exhibiting the helplessness of citizens in the hands of criminals with no authorities taking any effective measures. A citizen wrote that the number plate of the robbers’ car was visible but “no one would take action against them” while another slammed the police inaction. A user censured the police and the government, saying that authorities would do nothing “but eat barbeque [with robbers] together.” The incident was reported in Lahore’s Samanabad neighbourhood yesterday. Police said that the vehicle used in the crime was seized, however, the dacoits have not been arrested so far. They added that raids were being conducted to arrest the culprits. In a separate incident, a group of muggers snatched a goat from a citizen in Lahore’s Nishtar Colony. Police immediately swung into action and arrested one of the dacoits while his accomplice managed to flee from the scene. https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/1194245-video-sacrificial-animals-robbed-at-gunpoint-in-lahore

The world was a different place when the original Porsche Cayenne hit dealers in 2002. The internet was barely a thing for most Americans, Ferrari’s single-clutch paddle shifters were considered cutting-edge, and the term "performance SUV" hadn’t been invented. The Cayenne changed the SUV landscape, giving enthusiasts hope that big, useful utility vehicles could also evoke joy behind the wheel. And 22 years later, even the base V-6-powered Cayenne is proof that practicality and fun aren’t mutually exclusive.Spotting a 2024 Cayenne is tough unless you know what to look for. Its overall design appears nearly identical to the outgoing model, with only minor changes to things like the headlights, taillights, and bumpers. Only the most eagle-eyed will spot changes like the reshaped fenders and hoodline. The old Cayenne wasn’t an ugly car, and this model continues the trend with sleek, sporty lines reminding you that, yes, this is still a Porsche. The easiest way to spot a 2024 model is to peek inside. The cabin’s gone through an extensive revision that’s heavy on the tech. In front of the steering wheel sits a new 12.6-inch curved digital display that acts as the gauge cluster. It pairs with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen in the center of the dash. Between the two screens is where you’ll find the tiny gear selector, a design borrowed from the 918 Spyder hypercar. Things get more controversial farther down the center stack. The two columns of buttons flanking either side of the shifter are gone, replaced by a single cluster of buttons that include rockers for climate control and a knob for volume control. Other items, like seat heating and climate functions, are controlled by buttons. But they’re not normal buttons, nor are they touch-sensitive buttons. When you press down on any button, the entire cluster of buttons moves down, as if it were just one huge physical button. It’s a strange middle ground that aims to draw the line between the last-gen car’s touch-sensitive, haptic-feedback buttons (which, presumably, everyone hated) and individual physical buttons, which would probably cost a lot more to make. The design takes a bit to get used to, but you forget about it after a few hours. The resulting fingerprint-covered buttons are tougher to ignore, however. The rest of the interior is a lovely place to spend time. The seats are comfortable, supportive, and provide an extremely wide range of adjustability. It’s one of the few driver’s seats where I don’t immediately hit the lowest-to-the-floor setting while trying to find my optimal driving position. Everything you touch feels solid, well-built, and expensive. We’d recommend steering away from the Mojave Beige interior color found in our tester, though. It might be a nice pairing for the Montego Blue Metallic exterior paint, but it scuffs easily and too closely resembles the color of human skin. https://www.motor1.com/reviews/720465/2024-porsche-cayenne-v-6-review/

England's T20 World Cup preparations were again hit by poor weather as the third T20 international against Pakistan in Cardiff was abandoned without a ball bowled. The four-match series also opened with a washout at Headingley on Wednesday, before England triumphed by 23 runs in the second T20I at Edgbaston on Saturday.Rain began to fall steadily in the Welsh capital an hour before the scheduled 6.30pm start time for the third match of the series and never relented enough to result in a reduced-overs clash - the cut-off for which would have been 9.16pm.A pitch inspection was announced for 8.10pm if no further rain just as the wet weather returned, resulting in the match being called off shortly after that time.It means that the fourth and final match of the series, at The Oval on Thursday - live on Sky Sports Cricket from 6pm (first ball, 6.30pm) - is the last chance for the two teams to prepare ahead of the start of the Men's T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies. The tournament starts on June 1, with England's opening match against Scotland taking place on June 4 and Pakistan opening against co-hosts the US on June 6. https://www.skysports.com/cricket/news/12123/13144714/england-vs-pakistan-rain-sees-third-t20i-in-cardiff-abandoned-without-ball-being-bowled

Israeli strikes on Rafah not enough to prompt withdrawal of US assistance The White House has said that the strikes on Rafah both on Sunday and today do not prompt the withdrawal of US military assistance to Israel. White House spokesman John Kirby called the strike that killed 45 Palestinians after a fire in a tent camp "heartbreaking" but stopped short of saying the violence crossed President Joe Biden's metaphorical red line. He did however acknowledge that there is a "real danger" Israel could "become further isolated from the international community because of how they are conducting this operation"."We have not turned a blind eye and have raised issues with Israel," Mr Kirby continued. It comes after various global leaders spoke out about the strike, including the France's Emmanuel Macron and Germany's Olaf Scholz. UK Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron said earlier that the scenes coming out of Rafah were "very, very concerning". Reacting to the IDFs denial that it was targeting designated humanitarian zones in strikes, Mr Kirby said everything the US has seen supports this. He said: "Everything that we can see from the Israeli's shows they are not moving in with a major ground operation in po[CENSORED]tion centres."France working with Algeria on ceasefire resolution French President Emmanuel Macron has said he is working with Algeria on "a joint resolution" on Gaza to push for a ceasefire and address the desperate need for humanitarian aid. He said France is supporting Algeria after the request for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council over the situation in Rafah. The response to the Israel-Hamas war "can only be a political one," Mr Macron said when speaking in Meseberg, Germany, on the third day of a state visit in the country. "We are ready to actively work at a peaceful solution, it's reachable with political will." He said French diplomats will work in the "coming hours and days" at convincing "all our partners" over the resolution proposal. The French leader reaffirmed that recognising a Palestinian state is not yet a "taboo" for his country, adding that the decision must be made "at a useful moment" and shouldn't be an "emotional" reaction to what happened in Rafah. Mr Macron said yesterday that he was "outraged by the Israeli strikes that have killed many displaced persons in Rafah". He called for the operations by the Israeli military to stop.Watch: Rafah hospitals 'overwhelmed' and 'undersupplied' Earlier, we reported that the World Health Organisation (WHO) warned that a full incursion on Rafah by the Israeli military could force the closure of the last remaining hospital.
