ishi Sunak’s slim chance of pulling off a victory against the odds in July’s general election depends on voters buying the argument that tough decisions taken since he became prime minister are paying off. That claim will be tested over the next six weeks – with every piece of economic news more closely scrutinised than usual for evidence that the UK’s tentative economic recovery is gaining momentum or has started to falter. There are five key dates – crammed into a 10-day period in the middle of the campaign – to look out for. 11 June: labour market figures This could be one of the trickier pieces of economic news for Sunak to cope with since the last set of official data showed unemployment rising and job vacancies declining. Despite this evidence that the labour market is cooling, earnings growth remained strong, rising at an annual rate of 5.9%. In better news for the prime minister, wages have been rising more strongly than prices for the past 10 months, resulting in rising living standards. The Conservatives will say: four million jobs have been created since 2010 and workers are becoming better off. Labour will say: for the first time in recent history, voters will be worse off at the end of a parliament than they were at the start. One factor behind Sunak’s decision to call an election was the unexpectedly strong growth figures for the first three months of 2024, which showed national output 0.6% higher than in the final three months of 2023 and brought to an end the UK’s short and shallow recession. Paul Dales, the chief UK economist at the consultancy Capital Economics, expects gross domestic product to rise by 02% between March and April, pushing up the quarterly growth rate from 0.6% to 0.8%.This is probably the most important single piece of economic news during the campaign, given Sunak’s claim that the UK’s cost of living problem has now been cracked. The all-items annual inflation rate came down from 3.2% in March to 2.3% in April and is set to fall further in May. In part, that’s because consumer prices rose by 0.7% last May, a hefty increase that is unlikely to be repeated this year. Bruna Skarica, the chief UK economist at Morgan Stanley, sees the headline inflation rate falling to 2% – smack on the government’s target. Services inflation, which is closely watched by the Bank of England, should fall from 5.9% to 5.4%, Skarica says. The Conservatives will say: our tough action has brought stability to the economy. Labour will say: prices are 20% higher than they were at the start of the cost of living crisis and are still going up. https://www.theguardian.com/business/article/2024/may/24/five-pieces-of-economic-news-that-could-affect-the-uk-election-result#img-1

Khan Yunis: In a cowshed in Gaza's Khan Yunis, zookeeper Fathi Ahmed Gomaa has created a temporary home for dozens of animals including lions and baboons, having fled with them from Israel's offensive in Rafah."We've moved all the animals we had, except for three big lions that remain (in Rafah)", he said. "I ran out of time and couldn't move them." Ahmed abandoned his zoo in Rafah when Israel ordered the evacuation of parts of the southern Gazan city. Before the offensive, the city on the border with Egypt had been spared a ground invasion and more than half of the Gaza Strip's po[CENSORED]tion was sheltering there. Now, the Israeli offensive has sent more than 800,000 people fleeing from Rafah, according to the UN, with Gomaa and his family among them. "I am appealing to the Israeli authorities: these animals have no connection to terrorism", Gomaa told AFP, saying he wanted their help in coordinating with aid agencies to rescue the lions left behind in Rafah. He fears they won't survive long on their own."Of course, within a week or 10 days, if we don't get them out they will die because they'll be left with no food or water." Gomaa said he had already lost several of his animals to the war. "Three lion cubs, five monkeys, a newborn monkey and nine squirrels," he said. And while the squawking of parrots fills the air, many of Gomaa's other birds are no longer with him.In the cowshed, Gomaa is making do with what he has, using improvised fencing to raise the heights of the pens so that their new inhabitants, spotted deer, can't leap out. https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/pics-gaza-zookeeper-flees-rafah-creates-temporary-home-for-animals-5738498

The Auto China show in Beijing is one of the biggest automotive events in the world. It brings together many players in the sector, who do not hesitate to come with their hands full of new products. Open for a few hours, it has already been the scene of several official revelations: Mini Aceman , restyled BMW i4 and Series 4 Gran Coupé , Volkswagen ID.Code , electric Mercedes G-Class … Mazda is added to the list with two vehicles presented: a large sedan almost 5 meters long called EZ-6, and an electric SUV concept called Arata for the moment.Let's start with the most concrete: the EZ-6. This replaces the old Mazda 6, now retired, with a size of 4.92 m long, 1.89 m wide and 1.49 m high. Its rear-wheel drive architecture and fluid style are clearly integrated into the Mazda universe, with a few gimmicks such as the very thin headlights framing a large grille or the rear lights incorporating circles like the rest of the range. However, this EZ-6 is the result of a partnership with the Chinese manufacturer Changan which distributes Mazda models in China. This can be seen from certain angles, such as at the rear where the trunk looks very different from the Mazda style. In fact, the Mazda EZ-6 is based on the Deepal SL03, a Chinese electric sedan produced by Changan since 2022 (see photo gallery). Chic interior Ditto on board, where the Japanese sedan partly takes over the dashboard of its technical twin. For example, it offers the same 14.6-inch central screen (the largest ever used at Mazda), digital instrumentation behind the steering wheel including a few tactile keys as well as a head-up display. The whole thing looks chic with colored leather and wood or aluminum inserts. The overhead center console is massive, and has air conditioning controls on a screen at the rear to pamper the passengers in the second row, as is tradition in China.Rather late on the electric side, Mazda benefits from Changan's expertise for the technical part by using the EPA1 platform and the engines of its cousin. Mazda is currently not very talkative about the technical characteristics, simply mentioning an ideal 50:50 weight distribution, a multi-link rear suspension or even an active rear spoiler to improve stability at high speed. The sedan will be offered in two variants: a 100% electric version offering around 600 km of autonomy according to the Chinese CLTC cycle, and a PHEV version thanks to a range extender ( probably like our MX-30 REV in Europe ) which would offer up to 1,000 km of range on a single tank of fuel. Price and release date For the moment, this electric sedan is only planned for China, although an arrival in Europe or other global markets cannot necessarily be ruled out. In any case, marketing in China is planned by the end of 2024, at a price still unknown. https://www.auto-moto.com/berline-familiale/mazda-devoile-au-salon-de-pekin-sa-nouvelle-berline-electrifiee-ez-6-33701

We know, because even our favourite time to snack on that hot samosa or crispy wafers is tea time — usually between 4-6 pm. But, turns out, we are doing a gross injustice to our health by doing so. According to longevity biohacker Prashant Desai, those two hours are our biggest enemy, as he explains: “You start your day well as you have rested enough, had breakfast, and gone to work. The first seven or eight hours of your day are highly motivated and productive. But by 4 pm, that discipline fades, and you start snacking. This habit carries into dinner and late-night snacking. To stay healthy, avoid eating between 4 pm and 6 pm,” Desai said on Instagram. He suggested having a glass of water, chaach (buttermilk), or nimbu pani (lime water) at 3.30 pm. “If you’re still hungry, eat some nuts with black coffee or black tea or drink a protein shake,” said Desai, stating that these tips will help you maintain discipline between 4 pm to 6 pm and stay on track. Dr Vinoda Kumari, deputy chief medical officer, Jindal Naturecure Institute said that there are many reasons why snacking between 4-6 pm might be troublesome. “First of all, dinnertime is almost here, which might encourage overindulgence and upset your appetite for a healthy meal later. Second, the snacks eaten at this time of day are frequently heavy in fats, sweets, and calories, all of which can lead to energy slumps and weight gain. Furthermore, eating a late-afternoon snack may obstruct your body’s natural hunger signals, making it more difficult to identify true hunger signals in the future,” said Dr Kumari. As such, she recommended choosing “light, nutrient-dense foods that provide continuous energy and satiety”. “Think of choices such as whole-grain crackers with roasted chana, makhanas or foxnuts, fresh fruits, and almonds,” Dr Kumari told indianexpress.com, adding that these options provide a good ratio of protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates to keep you feeling full and content until dinner. https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/food-wine/not-snack-between-4-6-pm-risks-energy-experts-9346816/

NEW YORK: Fake accounts posting about the US presidential election are proliferating on the social media platform X, according to a social media analysis company’s report shared with Reuters exclusively ahead of its release on Friday. Analysts from Israeli tech company Cyabra, which uses a subset of artificial intelligence called machine learning to identify fake accounts, found that 15 percent of X accounts praising former President Donald Trump and criticizing President Joe Biden are fake. The report also found that 7 percent of accounts praising Biden, a Democrat, and criticizing Trump, a Republican, are fake. Cyabra’s study is based on a review of posts on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, over two months beginning March 1. The review included analyzing po[CENSORED]r hashtags and determining sentiment in terms of whether posts are positive, negative or neutral. The analysis shows that newly detected fake accounts had increased up to tenfold during March and April. The report cites 12,391 inauthentic pro-Trump profiles out of 94,363 total and 803 inauthentic pro-Biden profiles out of 10,065 total. A spokesperson for X did not respond to a request for comment about the fake accounts, nor did representatives from the White House and Trump campaign. X and other social media platforms have been under greater scrutiny since 2016, when Russia interfered in the US presidential election in an attempt to boost Trump’s candidacy and harm his opponent, Democrat Hillary Clinton. Election officials and online misinformation experts are again watching for misleading narratives ahead of the Nov. 5 election. The fake accounts praising Trump this cycle are part of a coordinated campaign to sway public opinion and influence online discussions, Cyabra said. The report did not identify the individuals or groups behind the campaign. Cyabra said it made that determination based on evidence including the use of identical hashtags and the fact that fake accounts published posts and comments at the same time. The report found that the fake pro-Trump accounts pushed two main messages: “Vote for Trump” and “Biden is the worst president the US has ever had.” “The level of coordination suggests that there is a nefarious objective and that there is a whole operation in order to change people’s opinion,” said Cyabra’s vice president, Rafi Mendelsohn. The fake accounts backing Biden are not part of a coordinated campaign, the report said, as the hallmarks of a coordinated campaign — such as fake accounts posting at the same time — were not identified. X, which was publicly held until its 2022 takeover by billionaire Elon Musk, has long downplayed the use of fake accounts on its platform. Twitter said in May 2022 that fewer than 5 percent of its daily active users were “false or spam” based on an internal review of accounts. At the time, Cyabra had estimated that 13.7 percent of Twitter profiles were inauthentic. In an X post on April 4, Musk wrote that a “system purge of bots and trolls” was under way and that the company “will be tracing the people responsible and bringing the full force of the law to bear upon them.” In October the company tested its “Not a Bot” program in New Zealand and the Philippines to combat bots and spammers. https://www.arabnews.pk/node/2516246/media

JPMorgan Chase ’s chairman and CEO, Jamie Dimon, says a “hard landing” for the U.S. cannot be ruled out. When asked by CNBC’s Sri Jegarajah about the prospect of a hard landing, Dimon replied: “Could we actually see one? Of course, how could anyone who reads history say there’s no chance?” The CEO was speaking at the JPMorgan Global China Summit in Shanghai. Dimon said the worst outcome for the U.S. economy will be a “stagflation” scenario, where inflation continues to rise, but growth slows amid high unemployment. “I look at the range of outcomes and again, the worst outcome for all of us is what you call stagflation, higher rates, recession. That means corporate profits will go down and we’ll get through all of that. I mean, the world has survived that but I just think the odds have been higher than other people think.” However, Dimon said that “the consumer is still in good shape” — even if the economy slips into recession. He pointed to the unemployment rate, which has been below 4% for about two years, adding that wages, home prices and stock prices have been going upThat said, Dimon pointed out that consumer confidence levels are low. “It seems to be mostly because of inflation. ...The extra money from Covid has been coming down. It’s still there, you know, at the bottom 50% it’s kind of gone. So it’s I’m going to call it normal, not bad.” Minutes from the Fed’s May meeting released Wednesday showed that policymakers have grown more concerned about inflation, with members of the Federal Open Market Committee indicating they lacked confidence to ease monetary policy and cut rates. Timing of Fed cuts Dimon said interest rates could still go up “a little bit.” “I think inflation is stickier than people think. I think the odds are higher than other people think, mostly because the huge amount of fiscal monetary stimulus is still in the system, and still maybe driving some of this liquidity.” Is the world prepared for higher inflation? “Not really,” he warned.According to the CME FedWatch Tool, about half of traders polled are pricing in a 25 basis points cut by September. The Fed has predicted three quarter-percentage cuts throughout 2024, but only if the market allows. Asked about the prospect and timing of rate reductions, Dimon said that while market expectations “are pretty good. They’re not always right.” “The world said [inflation] was going to stay at 2% all that time. Then it says it will go to 6%, then it said it’s going to go to four. ... It’s been 100% wrong almost every single time. Why do you think this time is right?” https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/23/jpm-jamie-dimon-us-could-see-hard-landing-stagflation-is-worst-outcome.html

Qatar Airways Cargo has once again assisted Animal Defenders International, this time by transporting six young lions from the illegal wildlife trade to the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in Johannesburg. Known as the “Kuwait 6”, the males Muheeb, Saham, Shujaa, Saif, and females Dhubiya and Aziza were either seized or captured after being abandoned and cared for at Kuwait Zoo. Animal Defenders International (ADI) was contacted by Kuwait government officials to help the lions, so ADI offered them a home at their 455-acre sanctuary in South Africa. Mark Drusch, Chief Officer Cargo at Qatar Airways Cargo said: “We are proud to once again be supporting ADI, this time in bringing these six beautiful lions home to Africa. Our WeQare Rewild the Planet initiative is our commitment to returning wildlife and endangered species back to their natural habitat, free of charge.“It takes a lot of effort and logistics for our team to organise moving such large animals; from the logistics at the airports, loading and unloading the animals from the aircraft, to ensuring the correct cages and wellbeing of the animals are in place, but it is something we are all collectively very proud and passionate to be a part of.” Jan Creamer, President, Animals Defenders International added: “The Kuwait 6 lions have their whole lives ahead of them and will have acres of space at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary. We are thankful to Qatar Airways Cargo and their WeQare program in once again supporting us by covering the cost of the air transport back to Africa. We are also very thankful to the ADI supporters who are helping to fund their care.” Alzahra Aljanabi, Senior Translator, Animal Welfare Department, Public Authority of Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources in Kuwait: “We would like to thank the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary for their support and efforts in providing a better habitat for the six lions from Kuwait. We are also thankful for Qatar Airways Cargo for generously offering the air transport. People underestimate the risks of having wild animals as pets. They may be magnificent creatures but they are also predators. We need more awareness to combat wildlife trafficking”. Qatar Airways Cargo continues to reaffirm its commitment to animal welfare. The cargo carrier recently opened its new state-of-the-art Animal Centre and relaunched its Live product, setting new benchmarks in the transport of live animals. As a leading transporter, with over 550,000 animals flown in 2023, the airline continues to advocate animal welfare globally, ensuring operations respect and contribute positively to animal well-being. Qatar Airways Cargo’s WeQare sustainability programme consists of a series of focus chapters based on four core pillars: environment, society, economy, and culture and is a conscious endeavour to create a more positive impact on the industry and the world. Chapter 2 – Rewild the Planet encourages the preservation of ecological balance by offering free transport to organisations involved in returning wild animals to their natural habitat. https://www.ajot.com/news/qatar-airways-cargo-rejoins-forces-with-animal-defenders-international-to-transport-six-young-lions-home-to-africa

Unless you really know your Subarus, you might not be able to tell the Forester is new for 2025. This is the sixth generation of Subaru’s much-loved compact crossover, and it comes with essentially everything the brand’s fans want. It’s spacious, practical, and has all sorts of safety tech, standard all-wheel drive, plus the promise of some off-road ability. The range starts at a little over $30,000, and the one you see here, the top-of-the-line Touring model, rings in at $41,390. All Forester models have the same powertrain, a 2.5-liter flat-four making 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. It’s a carryover engine from the previous Forester—and the one before that—though revised for this new generation, as is the continuously variable transmission. And yes, you get Subaru’s trademark full-time all-wheel drive system. I spoke with Subaru of America’s product planner for the Forester, and he stressed that while the new Forester shares its basic architecture with its predecessor, the SUV has received a number of refinements. The body structure is stiffer with better sound deadening, and there are improvements to Subaru’s Eyesight active safety systems. The Premium trim and above also get Subaru’s portrait-oriented infotainment system, too.Ride quality. Subaru tunes its cars fairly softly, and on broken city roads, this is very welcome. I even ran it over some cobbled streets and were it not for the sound, you’d hardly notice the surface change. Visibility. The Forester has always had a tall greenhouse, and Subaru maintained that here. In an age where design and safety regulations have compromised visibility, it’s refreshing to be in a car you can see out of easily. Size. Subaru talks a lot about making the Forester big on the inside, small on the outside, and they’re not lying. It feels wieldy, yet there’s tons of space for people and stuff. What's Not So Good? Interior quality. Inside, it really doesn’t feel up to par, especially for $40,000. And despite being a new model, the cabin feels dated. Uninspiring engine. Small tweaks aside, this is the same 2.5-liter engine Subaru’s been using forever. It’s pretty down on power and torque, and not terribly refined either. I hope the upcoming hybrid model brings real improvements under the hood. General blandness. On first impression, there’s nothing that really makes this car stand out. Sure, it has a flat-four engine and a real all-wheel drive system, but even these mechanical curiosities are pushed to the background. There’s nothing about the car that wows, or even grabs your interest, on first impression. https://www.motor1.com/reviews/720601/2025-subaru-forester-review-ask-us-anything/

Bellamy 'not joining Kompany at Bayern' Craig Bellamy will reportedly not join Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich, with the Burnley boss set to be named the Bundesliga giants' new manager. Kompany is due to move to the Bundesliga giants despite the 38-year-old overseeing Burnley's relegation from the Premier League, winning just five games all season. The former Wales striker has served as Kompany's assistant for five years, joining his former Man City team-mate at Anderlecht and following him to the Clarets. The Daily Mail report that Bellamy will not be joining the Belgian at Bayern. Kompany spent in excess of £90m on new players at Burnley over the 2023/24 season, but those reinforcements only brought five victories in the 2023/24 league season. Cinnamon is a po[CENSORED]r Indian spice known for its sweet, warm flavour, and aromatic scent. But did you know there are different types of cinnamon available in the market? Krish Ashok, a food scientist and content creator, addresses the fact that most people don’t know what kind of cinnamon they are consuming. “Your cinnamon is probably not real cinnamon,” he captions the reel.Dilip Kumar Rai, principal at Yangsum Senior Secondary School, Sikkim and senior botanist, says, “Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) and cassia cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia), often referred to as ‘true cinnamon,’ are two of the most commonly used types of cinnamon. Despite their similarities, they differ significantly in flavour, health benefits, sourcing, and historical significance.” Historical and cultural significance Rai says that ceylon cinnamon has been prized since ancient times. It was highly valued in ancient Egypt for embalming and religious ceremonies and in medieval Europe for its medicinal properties. “It has been used traditionally in Sri Lankan and South Asian cuisines, as well as in European desserts and beverages.”Used extensively in traditional Chinese medicine and cuisine, cassia cinnamon was also traded along the ancient spice routes. Integral to many Asian dishes, as well as Middle Eastern and African cuisines, its strong flavour makes it po[CENSORED]r in spice blends and rubs, he adds. https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/food-wine/cinnamon-ceylon-cassia-food-indian-cuisine-spice-9327749/

NATO has warned for years about the security of undersea cables and Allies increased naval patrols near critical subsea infrastructure following recent incidents in the Baltic Sea. Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who opened the conference, said Allies must continue to step up. “The increasing dependency of our societies on undersea infrastructure means we need to do more to enhance their security,” said Mr Stoltenberg. “NATO is well-placed to take on a greater role given our Allies’ unique military capabilities, vast intelligence network, and operational expertise,” he said, underlining that Russia is carrying out an intensifying hybrid campaign against Allies. At the meeting, participants discussed ways to enhance information-sharing and situational awareness, as well as ways to deter and defend against threats to undersea infrastructure. They talked about using innovative technologies to enhance infrastructure security and resilience, including for the growing number of offshore wind farms that underpin the energy transition. The Alliance also continues to promote technological innovation – such as sea drones, new sensors and the use of AI – to better detect suspicious activity. The one-day meeting follows the decision by NATO Defence Ministers in February 2024 to stand up the Critical Undersea Infrastructure Network. Allies are also establishing a Maritime Centre for the Security of Critical Undersea Infrastructure within NATO’s Maritime Command (MARCOM) in Northwood, UK. Thursday’s meeting was chaired by David van Weel, Assistant Secretary General for Innovation, Hybrid and Cyber. Industry representatives, including energy operators, also attended.Leading experts from across the Alliance met at NATO Headquarters on Thursday (23 May 2024) for the first meeting of NATO’s new Critical Undersea Infrastructure Network. With rising challenges to undersea infrastructure, the Alliance is putting in place new tools to enhance the security of undersea cables and pipelines and to monitor potential threats. https://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/news_225582.htm

Federal Reserve officials appear to have “no idea” what is happening when it comes to the inflation picture in the U.S., according to Julian Howard, lead investment director of multi-asset solutions at GAM. His comments come as policymakers have in recent weeks been urging patience over interest rate cuts, arguing that inflation has fallen by less than previously expected and is still too sticky for the Fed to press ahead with easing monetary policy.Fed Governor Christopher Waller on Tuesday said that he needed to see further data evidence that inflation was softening before supporting rate cuts. “In the absence of a significant weakening in the labor market, I need to see several more months of good inflation data before I would be comfortable supporting an easing in the stance of monetary policy,” he said at an event at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington. Waller’s comments were echoed by other Fed officials on Tuesday, including Boston Fed President Susan Collins. “I think the data has been very mixed ... and it’s going to take longer than I had previously thought,” she said at a conference hosted by the Atlanta Federal Reserve. “We’re in a period when patience really matters.” ‘A credibility problem’ But Fed officials have not come out with a clear message about their expectations or to address why inflation remains elevated, GAM’s Howard said. “Inflation is notoriously difficult to predict and I don’t think they have any real idea what’s happening,” he noted. “To be honest, there’s a credibility problem,” Howard said. Policymakers initially suggested inflation would be subdued when it first started rising, Howard said, explaining that the rate then spiked. “And now [policymakers] think inflation is coming down but its not coming down fast enough,” he said. Data released earlier this month showed that the U.S. consumer price index came in at 3.4% for April on an annual basis. This was a slight dip from March’s 3.5% figure, and far below the 9.1% reading recorded in June 2022 when the inflation cycle peaked — but also remained above the Fed’s 2% target. https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/22/fed-officials-seem-to-have-no-idea-about-inflation-strategist-says-.html

The proposal, reportedly spurred by recent dog attacks and backed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, will soon be submitted to Parliament. The AKP argues that the current system of sterilization is insufficient to control the stray dog po[CENSORED]tion and fails to address public safety concerns. The party claims that the high cost of sterilization, lack of space for shelters and difficulties in coordination between ministries create an insurmountable hurdle in dealing with the problem. Under the proposed law, stray dogs would be photographed and listed for adoption on a government website. After a 30-day waiting period, unadopted animals would be euthanized by injection. The process would be repeated continuously as new strays are brought into shelters. AKP officials point to similar practices in U.K., Italy and Portugal as models for their proposal. Animal rights groups argue that euthanasia is inhumane and that resources should be directed toward improving sterilization programs and promoting responsible pet ownership. The 2021 Animal Rights Law, which mandated pet microchipping and penalized pet abandonment, also included a provision for sterilization of stray animals. However, the euthanasia option was ultimately removed due to public pressure. The Justice and Development Party (AKP) has evaluated the issue of euthanizing stray animals with an amendment to the Animal Rights Law, which it has been working on for some time. https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/akp-proposes-stray-dog-euthanasia-amid-safety-concerns-193815

Every G-Class sold in America since Mercedes started importing the truck has had a V-8 engine. The G500, the G550, the G55 AMG, and the twin-turbo AMG G63. Every single one has come with eight cylinders (save for a handful of limited-production V-12 models). Now, for the first time, you’ll soon be able to buy an internal combustion G-Wagen without a V-8. Mercedes dropped the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 from the base G550 for 2025, replacing it with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six paired to a mild-hybrid system. It makes the truck quicker and more efficient than before, and for normal consumers, it’s the better choice. But I still miss the V-8.That mild-hybrid tech comes in the form of a 48-volt-powered integrated starter-generator (ISG) mounted between the engine and the nine-speed automatic gearbox. Mercedes rates the engine at 443 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque—27 more horses but 37 fewer lb-ft than the V-8. The ISG can supply an additional 20 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque at lower engine speeds, though, making the new powertrain feel far peppier while setting off.The hybrid assistance makes the inline-six feel like a more responsive and modern powertrain. By strict German numbers-matter-most standards, it’s the better one to have. But it’s just not as interesting as the old 4.0-liter. Gone is the G-Wagen’s signature V-8 rumble, something that made every G identifiable from idle alone. I suspected Mercedes would want to hide the sound of the six-cylinder, but it’s still audible, from inside and outside of the truck. I don’t mind the sound of an inline-six, but this one isn’t very nice to listen to. At times it can be buzzy and annoying; something I wouldn’t expect of any Mercedes product, much less a G-Wagen. Again, this is something that I suspect most G-Wagen buyers might not care about. But to me, the V-8 was a more enjoyable experience. https://www.motor1.com/reviews/719255/2025-mercedes-benz-g550-review/
