  3. Introduction and specs The Reno8 series has been out in China for almost two months now, but this is the first time the Reno8 and the Reno8 Pro step outside of their home country. The global versions of the handsets are slightly different from their Chinese counterparts, although the changes are rather negligible. The focus of this review would be the vanilla Reno8, and it swaps out the depth sensor on the Chinese version for a full-fledged camera - an 8MP ultrawide one, to be exact. The rest of the specs are pretty much identical. The handset features a bright 6.43-inch 90Hz OLED panel, which would most likely attract users looking for something more compact because, let's face it, 6.43" in 2022 is in the lower size range. Being small doesn't mean being small on features, though. The Reno8 runs on a very potent Dimenstiy 1300 SoC and has two standout cameras. Oppo Reno8 specs at a glance: Body: 160.6x73.4x7.7mm, 179g; Gorilla Glass 5 front, plastic back and side frame. Display: 6.40" AMOLED, 90Hz, 430 nits (typ), 600 nits (HBM), 800 nits (peak), 1080x2400px resolution, 20:9 aspect ratio, 411ppi. Chipset: MediaTek Dimensity 1300 (6 nm): Octa-core (1x3.0 GHz Cortex-A78 & 3x2.6 GHz Cortex-A78 & 4x2.0 GHz Cortex-A55); Mali-G77 MC9. Memory: 128GB 8GB RAM, 256GB 8GB RAM; UFS 3.1. OS/Software: Android 12, ColorOS 12.1. Rear camera: Wide (main): 50 MP, f/1.8, 23mm, 1/1.56", 1.0µm, multi-directional PDAF; Ultra wide angle: 8 MP, f/2.2, 16mm, 112˚, 1/4.0", 1.12µm; Macro: 2 MP, f/2.4. Front camera: 32 MP, f/2.4, 23mm (wide), 1/2.74", 0.8µm. Video capture: Rear camera: 4K@30fps, 1080p@30/60/120fps, gyro-EIS; Front camera: 1080p@30fps, gyro-EIS. Battery: 4500mAh; Fast charging 80W, 1-50% in 11 min, 1-100% in 28 min (advertised), Reverse charging. Misc: Fingerprint reader (under display, optical); NFC. Oppo is particularly proud of using Sony's 50MP IMX766 sensor as the main shooter, which is fairly large- 1/1.56" and offers 1.0µm pixels. On the front, the Reno8 carries an Oppo-exclusive 32MP IMX709 sensor with an RGBW filter allowing for an improved selfie performance. That's one of the phone's selling points, after all. It's important to note, though, that the Reno8 Pro has the same exact camera setup, so if the camera performance is your main priority, the Reno8 would probably do while being significantly cheaper than the Pro. The vanilla option also doesn't skip the blazing-fast charging. The same 4,500 mAh battery supports 80W SuperVOOC charging protocol from Oppo, although countries with 110V power grids can get only 66W out of the same brick. It's probably worth noting that the Oppo Reno8 is almost identical to the OnePlus Nord 2T. The main difference between the two is the design and the OS. OnePlus' OxygenOS is still somewhat cleaner than Oppo's ColorOS, so it strongly depends on one's personal preferences towards Android skins. So in a sense, this review can be used as a reference when looking for OnePlus Nord 2T-relevant information. Most, if not all, of the results from our tests, would be applicable to some extent. Unboxing the Oppo Reno8 The Oppo Reno8 ships in a standard box containing all the usual user manuals along with the corresponding 80W SuperVOOC charger and a USB-A to USB-C cable. Oppo has included an extra case for the phone, which is transparent, so it doesn't conceal the overall design. And it's a great option until you find a case that fits you best. https://www.gsmarena.com/oppo_reno8-review-2452.php

  5. Turtles are always close to the surface in the sea. Therefore, they could be the key to the timely prediction of strong storms in Asia. Artificial satellites are no longer enough. Faced with the ecological pressure that the climate crisis is imposing on the planet, human devices in space are proving not to have sufficient capacity to predict the damage that some severe weather events can have on Asia. And what's more: scientists who monitor hurricanes, tropical storms and other similar events are failing to identify where they form. Therefore, a team of scientists decided to look back at nature. From the conservation of turtles, they realized that those who have trackers can identify tropical storms in early stages. We suggest: What are bomb cyclones, another consequence of climate change See the birth of storms from the sea According to a study recently published in Hakai Magazine, the strength of tropical storms comes from the water. For this reason, the turtles that inhabit the Indian Ocean are ideal for predicting their birth and observing their development. As they swim close to the surface of the sea, from 25 to 200 meters deep, they can identify the temperature and conditions of the most superficial layer of the oceans. This alternative was born from a study conducted by Olivier Bousquet, director of research at the French Ministry of Sustainable Development. In the absence of information on climatic conditions in the Southwest Indian Ocean, he teamed up with biologists at Kélonia, a sea turtle observatory on Réunion, a French island about 950 kilometers east of Madagascar. Researchers knew that turtles spend a lot of time feeding in storms and giant whirlpools. According to Bousquet, the information collected based on the movement of the turtles would provide unprecedented data on how the structure of the oceans changes over time. We suggest: Injured by boats and fishing nets, a leatherback turtle dies off the coast of Spain The new sentinels of the climate crisis In 2019, the team of researchers released 15 tracker-tagged turtles to monitor conditions in this area. That's how the researchers realized that "tagged turtles could help climate studies by giving scientists a way to calibrate ocean models and satellite data," as documented by Smithsonian Magazine. WITH THIS STEP, THE BIOLOGISTS WERE EXCITED THAT THEY WOULD KNOW FIRST-HAND THE TEMPERATURE, DEPTH AND LOCATION OF THEIR MARINE ENVIRONMENTS. AND WHAT'S MORE: THEY COULD BETTER KNOW THE DIVING BEHAVIOR AND OTHER TYPICAL MOVEMENTS OF TURTLES, EVEN WHEN THERE ARE NO STORMS. Over time, the turtles fed the satellites 20 to 50 times a day with new information. Just as Bousquet expected. However, the movement stopped dead in its tracks. When investigating individual cases, the team realized that some of the specimens were trapped in fishing nets. "We were shocked," laments Bousquet. Despite the tragedy, the three-week voyage of some of them had produced an unprecedented amount of oceanographic information. But Ilona's three-week trip had produced a great deal of data. Despite the losses, researchers at the French National Center for Space Studies want to replicate the success of this project. For which, STORM: Sea Turtles for Ocean Research and Monitoring was designed. Other institutions, such as the Interreg ocean research program of the European Union and the University of Reunion Island, are joining these conservation efforts, so that the model can be replicated in other areas of the world —if industrial fishing allows it, Sure. https://www.ngenespanol.com/animales/las-tortugas-contribuyen-a-la-prediccion-de-tormentas-fuertes-en-asia/
  6. Arriving in early 2021, the Alsvin is a new alternative to consider among compact sedans. With 4.3 meters long, 2.53 meters between axles and 430 liters of capacity, it is inserted as a strong rival in the B segment. The brand offers three versions: the first two are motivated by a 93 Hp 1.4 VVT engine associated with a 5MT box, while the most equipped model has a 95 Hp 1.5 VVT engine with a 5AT box. As standard, it offers 14" wheels, LED DRL lights, a 10" multimedia system with Bluetooth, a multifunction steering wheel, air conditioning and a digital tachometer, as well as dual airbags, ISOFIX, ABS and a backup camera. The intermediate model has four airbags, ESP, hill start assistant, on-board computer, eco-leather upholstery, mirrors with defroster and 15" wheels. The Elite model already comes with a sunroof, side surveillance camera, cruise control, Start/Stop and TPMS. https://www.autocosmos.cl/autos/mi-primer-auto
  7. Hunter Biden has been under federal investigation since 2018, according to a source familiar with the matter. A separate source told Fox News that the federal grand jury looking into Hunter’s business dealings wrapped up its latest term late last month, but said no charges have been filed. The investigation is being conducted by Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, a prosecutor appointed by former President Trump. HUNTER BIDEN REQUESTED KEYS FOR NEW 'OFFICE MATES' JOE BIDEN, CHINESE 'EMISSARY' TO CEFC CHAIRMAN, EMAILS SHOW The source told Fox News Wednesday that Weiss and Justice Department officials were looking into whether to charge Hunter Biden with various tax violations and, more seriously, possible foreign lobbying violations. The source said Hunter Biden could face possible false statements charges. But the source said no final decision has been made on whether to charge Hunter, and stressed that the investigation is ongoing. Fox News first reported in December 2020 that Biden was a subject/target of the grand jury investigation, according to a well-placed government source. According to the source, a "target" means that there is a "high probability that person committed a crime," while a "subject" is someone you "don’t know for sure" has committed a crime." https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/hunter-biden-probe-reaches-critical-stage-as-officials-weigh-possible-charges-source/ar-AAZN6dP?li=BBnb7Kz

  14. The Nokia G21 is a recent budget smartphone from HMD Global. It promises a three-day battery life and Android OS upgrades for the next two years. The G21 also features a high refresh rate display that is slowly becoming common in the sub Rs. 15,000 price segment. The competition is heating up in this space with brands such as Redmi, Realme, and Samsung constantly trying to outdo each other. The Nokia G21 is banking hard on its Android One roots and big battery capacity to appeal to purists. So, should you consider the Nokia G21 if you're on a tight budget? Here's my review. Nokia G21 price in India The Nokia G21 is priced at Rs. 12,999 in India for the base variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The other variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at Rs. 14,999. HMD Global offers the Nokia G21 in two finishes, Nordic Blue and Dusk, which is brown. Nokia G21 design While most smartphones in the budget segment tend to sport glossy back panels with gradient patterns, the Nokia G21 feels a bit old-school. It has a textured back panel that is made out of plastic, just like the rest of the phone. This texture helps keep fingerprints away. HMD Global also includes a case in the box. The back of the Nokia G21 houses a rectangular camera module In the top left corner which doesn't protrude much. In tune with the current design trends, the sides of the Nokia G21 are completely flat. The corners are rounded, so they won't dig into your palm when you hold the smartphone. HMD Global has gone for a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that's integrated in the power button. The volume buttons sit slightly higher up on the same side but are within reach when using the phone single-handedly. On the other side, the Nokia G21 has a dedicated Google Assistant button and the SIM tray. The 3.5mm audio jack is present on the top, while the USB Type-C port is at the bottom along with the speaker. The Nokia G21 sports a 6.5-inch display with a 20:9 aspect ratio and an HD+ resolution. It has the dewdrop notch at the top which is still common in phones at this price range. The display also has a thick bottom chin. Overall, the Nokia G21 feels well-built and sturdy. Nokia G21 specifications and software The Nokia G21 has modest specifications. It is powered by a Unisoc T606 SoC which is an entry-level, octa-core 4G SoC with two ARM Cortex-A75 performance cores, and six ARM Cortex-A55 efficiency cores, all clocked at 1.6GHz. The Nokia G21 has an HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a maximum brightness of 400 nits. Storage expansion is possible via a dedicated slot for a microSD card. There is support for Bluetooth 5, dual-band Wi-Fi ac, NFC, and three satellite navigation systems. The phone packs a 5,050mAh battery with support for up to 18W fast charging, however HMD Global bundles a 10W charger in the box. The Nokia G21 runs Android 11 and is a part of the Android One program which means you get stock Android and a promise of two years of Android OS upgrades. It's still a bit disappointing to not have Android 12 out of the gate, which is what most manufacturers are offering these days. My unit was running the May 2022 Android security patch. Even though the UI is mostly clean, I did find apps such as ExpressVPN, LinkedIn, Netflix, and Spotify preinstalled. These apps can be uninstalled to reclaim space. The Nokia G21 offers various gestures to help get things done quickly. For instance, you can perform a double-tap gesture to wake the screen, flip the the phone over to reject calls, double-tap the power button to launch the camera, and a few more. It also has stock Android features such as Digital Wellbeing which gives you a nice insight about your usage habits. Nokia G21 performance and battery life The Nokia G21 offers acceptable performance for the price. It was capable of handling casual games and mainstream apps without any hiccups. However, more demanding apps and games did require a longer time to load. A basic level of multitasking was possible on the 6GB RAM variant that I had but there was no RAM extension feature which could come in handy for the 4GB variant. The side-mounted fingerprint scanner was quick at authentication. The quality of the HD+ resolution display was pretty average too. This could be a deal breaker for some since full-HD+ displays aren't uncommon in this segment. Benchmarks scores echoed my usage experience. In AnTuTu, the Nokia G21 scored just 198,068 points, while in Geekbench 5, it managed 306 points and 1221 points in the benchmark's single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. In graphics benchmark GFXBench, it managed 34fps and 8.8fps in the T-Rex and Car Chase test suites. These scores were in line with other budget smartphones, such as the Redmi 10 Prime (Review) and the Samsung Galaxy F22 (Review) that are also available in this price range. Gaming performance on the Nokia G21 in games such as Call of Duty: Mobile was strictly average. It defaulted to the ‘Low' graphics and ‘Medium' frame rate setting. The game took some time to load and I did observe occasional issues with rendering objects within the game, in certain maps. I played the game for about 15 minutes which resulted in a mere two percent drop in battery level, which was good. The phone did get slightly warm to the touch at the end of my gaming session. Battery life is where the Nokia G21 excels. The frugal SoC and the large battery allows it to easily hit the two-day mark, at least with my typical usage. In our HD video loop test, the Nokia G21 ran for 20 hours and 4 minutes, which is a very good time. Sadly, the slow charging speeds of the bundled 10W charger resulted in the phone charging to just 23 percent in half and hour and up to 45 percent in an hour. Charging the battery fully took over two hours. I feel it would be worth investing in a faster 18W charger to reduce charging time. Nokia G21 cameras The Nokia G21 sports a triple rear camera setup. It has a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 2-megapixel macro camera, and a 2-megapixel depth camera. For selfies, it has an 8-megapixel shooter. The camera app is pretty basic and has different shooting modes to choose from. The 50-megapixel primary camera pixel-bins photos to 12.5-megapixels by default. Daylight photos from the primary camera looked good when viewed simply on the phone's display, but I noticed that details weren't as sharp upon zooming in. Textures and details on objects at a distance in landscape shots tended to have a watercolour-like effect. The phone was quick to enable HDR in bright scenes which helped the phone capture decent dynamic range. Selfies were decent in both daylight as well as low-light conditions. Those clicked in Portrait mode had good edge detection and managed to blur the background properly. Video recording on the Nokia G21 maxed out at 1080p for the rear camera. It lacked stabilisation resulting in shaky footage. Overall, the camera performance of the G21 was strictly average, and an ultra-wide-angle camera might have brought some versatility to this otherwise mediocre setup. Verdict The Nokia G21 is an Android One smartphone that provides a stock Android experience, with the promise of guaranteed software updates for the next few years. It offers good build quality and excellent battery life for day to day usage. Given its good qualities, the Nokia G21 should appeal to a casual user who prefers a simple and clean Android interface. Having said that, I'm a little disappointed that the G21 ships with Android 11 and not 12. Power users might find the Nokia G21 to be slightly underpowered. The cameras also fell short of my expectations. If you can overlook its shortcomings, the Nokia G21 is still a dependable smartphone for casual use with good software support, which isn't common in this price range. Those wanting more performance around the same price can consider the Realme 9i (Review) or the Moto G51 (Review). If you are eyeing the 6GB variant of the Nokia G21, you should consider the Redmi Note 10T 5G (Review) instead. https://gadgets360.com/mobiles/reviews/nokia-g21-review-price-in-india-android-one-vs-moto-g42-3128531#pfrom=indepth
  15. High-end hardware at half the price of the big names, what's not to like? A category started by OnePlus in 2014, the top-specced 'flagship killer' is a crowd favorite. OnePlus itself now fights in the upper echelon with its top offerings, but with its diversifying portfolio there's one for this level as well. Brands that usually top bang-for-buck charts are here too - both Realme and Xiaomi have options for those who aren't willing to shell top dollar, but still appreciate top-tier performance. Excellent AMOLED screen, 1B colors, 120Hz, HDR10+ Dual Glass, aluminum frame, IP53-rated design The flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 5G chip Stereo speakers Top-class battery life, fast to charge Dependable triple camera Uninspiring battery life Not waterproofed The Poco F3 has been finally dethroned from this list by the new Poco F4 GT. It is the cheapest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-packing smartphone on the market, but that’s not the only thing that’s great about the Poco F4 GT. Xiaomi Poco F4 Excellent AMOLED, 120Hz refresh, Dolby Vision Top-notch performance, great stability, 5G Loud dual speakers, Dolby Atmos Dependable battery life, fast to charge Good all-round camera experience NFC, IR blaster, Android 12, MIUI 13. Downgraded macro camera since F3. The videos capturing needs a boost The Poco F3 has been replaced by the Poco F4 this year. It’s a minor refresh over the po[CENSORED]r F3 model with Dolby Vision support for its 120Hz OLED, better cooling system for the Snapdragon 870 5G chipset, improved 64MP primary camera with OIS, and faster 67W charging. The most evident change is the design, of course, which has gone from curved towards flat shape. It is still IP53-rated, as usual. The Poco F4 has an excellent all-round package, just like the previous models. It offers stereo speakers, fast 67W charging for its large battery with good endurance rating, a dependable triple-camera setup with improved quality, and the latest MIUI 13. The Poco F4 launched at €399, but the early bird price is €349, which is an incredibly competitive tag and we can see it purchased over a few flagships – hence the inclusion in this list. Realme GT Neo 3T 120Hz AMOLED, HDR10+, GG5 Snapdragon 870 5G chip, 8GB RAM Triple camera with 4K@60fps Stereo speakers, NFC, UD fingerprint scanner 5,000mAh battery, 80W charging Games capped at 60fps No splash resistance The Realme GT Neo 3T is pretty much the same phone as the Poco F4, but from another maker. If you fancy Realme over Xiaomi, the Neo 3T offers similar 120Hz AMOLED, the same Snapdragon 870 5G chipset, same triple-camera setup (sans OIS), and you will get an even better battery life with faster 80W charging. The Realme GT Neo 3T costs as much as a mid-ranger at €429, so some cuts had to be made. There is no ingress protection for starters. You will not find a zoom camera, while photo and video quality isn’t the best of the bunch. But we can very much live with these omissions on that price. Realme GT Neo 3 150W 120Hz AMOLED, 1B colors, HDR10+, GG5 Dimensity 8100 chip, 5G Triple camera with OIS and 4K@60fps Stereo speakers, NFC, UD fingerprint scanner 5,000mAh battery, 80W charging Games capped at 60fps No splash resistance The Realme GT Neo 3 is a more premium version of the Neo 3T with an improved display (1B colors), a faster and newer Dimensity 8100 5G chipset, and an improved main camera with a new 50MP sensor and OIS. These updates add an extra €180 on top of the Neo 3T price, which may not be worthy for some. But these premium features get the Neo 3 closer to the flagship class and with its €599 price tag, it can easily pass as a flagship killer, too. https://www.gsmarena.com/best_flagship_killers_buyers_guide-review-2039.php
  16. Apple today agreed to a $50 million settlement stemming from a lawsuit regarding the MacBook Pro’s much-maligned butterfly keyboard design. The class-action lawsuit was initiated because Apple’s butterfly keyboard design was nothing short of a typing nightmare. Keys were prone to sticking and, in some instances, simply wouldn’t work at all. After years of complaints, Apple mercifully brought back the scissor-switch keyboard design in 2019. Who is eligible for a refund? According to Reuters, the settlement encapsulates customers who purchased select MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro models from 2015 through 2019. Per the terms of the agreement, users who had to replace more than one keyboard can receive up to $395. Users who had to replace one keyboard can receive up to $125. And users who only had to replace a single key can receive up to $50. Additionally, impacted users remain eligible for free keyboard repairs for the next four years. The thinking behind the failed MacBook Pro keyboard design While Apple, per the settlement agreement, didn’t admit to any wrongdoing, it’s no secret that the design is widely considered a massive design fail that elevated form over function. Many speculate that the butterfly keyboard design was spearheaded by Jony Ive in his pursuit to keep Apple’s notebooks as thin as possible. To this point, Apple at the time boasted that its new keyboard design was 40% thinner than a traditional keyboard. It also exclaimed that the design allowed for “greater precision” when striking keys. In practice, the travel for each individual key was too short and typing often felt odd. It’s also worth noting that after years of lawsuits and thousands of customer complaints, Apple a few years ago took the rare step of issuing a public apology for the design. “We are aware that a small number of users are having issues with their third-generation butterfly keyboard and for that we are sorry,” an Apple spokesperson said in early 2019. While there’s never an excuse for a faulty keyboard, the issue was exacerbated on account of the MacBook Pro’s sticker price. Imagine paying $2000 for a laptop only to find out that the keyboard is prone to failure for no reason. Apple tried to improve the butterfly keyboard design over the years, but it was all futile in the end. State of the MacBook Pro today Today, Apple’s MacBook Pro is a beast of a machine. It’s fair to say that Apple’s notebook lineup today is the best we’ve ever seen. For starters, the keyboard works. And second, Apple completely changed the game with its M1 processor. As we wrote previously: The performance gains and power efficiency that the M1 brings to the table accomplished something that was seemingly impossible. It managed to get people hyped up for computer hardware. Sure, we’ve seen Apple iterate on the MacBook and iMac line, and sure, there is the Mac Pro, but Apple’s line of M1 laptops is the first time in a long time that we’ve seen genuine excitement for entry-level Macs from non-pro users. Mac sales in recent years have exploded across the board. We’ve seen blazing fast MacBook Air models and even a brand new MacBook Pro design with a notch. The new notch design provides users with even more screen real estate. Looking ahead, the future of the Mac has never been brighter, largely because Apple was able to acknowledge its design missteps and regroup. https://bgr.com/tech/apple-to-pay-50-million-for-faulty-macbook-pro-keyboard-design/
  17. Around 4,000 beagles have been saved from animal testing, thanks to the Humane Society of the US (HSUS). The animal welfare organization recently responded to a call from the US Department of Justice. It was asking for help with removing thousands of dogs from a breeding facility in Virginia. The facility, owned by research organization Envigo, was supplying animals to laboratories for testing. The dogs were discovered earlier this year in overcrowded, “shocking” conditions. HSUS reports that some nursing mothers were denied food, several puppies had died from the cold, and food was maggot-infested. Some animals were killed instead of being taken to the vet for simple treatments. Earlier in July, after inspection reports exposed the facility, a judge ordered that the remaining 4,000 dogs be released. BREAKING: The Humane Society of the United States embarks on a historic operation involving the removal of approximately 4,000 beagles from the Envigo facility in Cumberland, Virginia which bred dogs to be sold to laboratories for animal experimentation. A ‘feat of epic proportions’ HSUS is being supported by rescue organizations across the US as it attempts to find a new home for all of the animals. John Ramer of Wyoming’s Kindness Ranch Animal Sanctuary told NPR that the rescue was “daunting.” He added: “When I carry one dog out of a facility, I can tap it on the head and give it a hug and tell him that everything’s gonna be OK. But pulling 4,000 out … it’s an inconceivable number of dogs.” HSUS notes that it is already difficult to find homes for dogs in the middle of summer. Shelters are usually over capacity. A blog post written by Sara Amundson, the president of the nonprofit’s legislative fund, states that the rescue will be a “feat of epic proportions.” “We are ready to take on the challenge,” writes Amundson. “And we are grateful to our rescue and shelter partners network of local rescue groups and shelters in communities throughout the country—whose dedicated efforts will make it possible for these dogs to find loving homes.” HSUS is currently campaigning for the FDA to end animal testing for good.
