  9. Nothing Phone 1 was launched in India and worldwide earlier this month on July 12. It has been only a few days since the phone went on sale in the country and reportedly several customers have started complaining of experiencing similar design and quality issues. Notably, a couple of users were spotted experiencing issues with the alignment of the wire tape in the Black variant of the Nothing Phone 1. In addition, some users have complained about Flipkart not registering their replacement requests. As per a report by 91Mobiles, a customer took to Twitter to reveal several build quality issues visible on the rear panel of the Nothing Phone 1. There were purportedly alignment issues with the wiring tape, placement of the LED flash, and more. The report also mentions that when trying to replace a faulty Nothing Phone 1, the publication was seemingly unable to place a return/ replacement request through Flipkart. Problems did not end for Nothing here, as another customer tweeted that the company supposedly shipped a damaged Nothing Phone 1 as a replacement. We've reached out to Nothing to comment on the issues, and will update this article when we hear back. It has been a rough couple of weeks for Nothing since the launch of the Nothing Phone 1. There were reports of the smartphone displaying a green tint on the screen for some users even before it officially went on sale. Others also complained of dead pixels around the hole-punch slot of the smartphone. Nothing had to release the first update for the Nothing Phone 1 even before the smartphone went on sale. It included fixes for battery performance and an improved fingerprint unlocking experience. The update also added HDR10+ support. There was a second update only a few days later, that supposedly resolved a fingerprint sensor bug and battery life optimisations. https://gadgets360.com/mobiles/news/nothing-phone-1-design-quality-issues-replacement-error-user-reports-flipkart-3195653#pfrom=topstory
  10. Introduction and specs With the Nubia Red Magic 7S Pro out in China, the company just launched the handset for the global market as a successor to the 7 Pro a few months back. But as it's usually the case with biannual upgrades, the 7S Pro isn't a full-fledged successor. It's more of a refresh. That's because many of the features and hardware on the 7 Pro can be found on the 7S Pro as well. However, some key upgrades would make you want to get the 7S Pro instead of the 7 Pro if you are on the market for a gaming-centric smartphone. The most obvious and probably important one is the chipset. The 7S Pro runs on the updated Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is manufactured on TSMC's 4nm manufacturing process. The standard SD 8 Gen 1 was Samsung's doing, and now, Qualcomm claims about 30% improved efficiency over the original SoC thanks to TSMC's better node. It will be interesting to compare the test results between the 7 Pro and the 7S Pro since both handsets share mostly the same hardware, except the chipset. ZTE nubia Red Magic 7S Pro specs at a glance: Body: 166.3x77.1x10.0mm, 235g; Glass front, glass back, aluminum frame; Pressure sensitive zones (520Hz touch-sensing), Built-in cooling fan, Aviation aluminum middle frame. Display: 6.80" AMOLED, 1B colors, 120Hz, 600 nits, 1080x2400px resolution, 20:9 aspect ratio, 387ppi. Chipset: Qualcomm SM8475 Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (4 nm): Octa-core (1x3.19 GHz Cortex-X2 & 3x2.75 GHz Cortex-A710 & 4x1.80 GHz Cortex-A510); Adreno 730. Memory: 256GB 12GB RAM, 512GB 16GB RAM, 512GB 18GB RAM, 1TB 18GB RAM; UFS 3.1. OS/Software: Android 12, Redmagic 5.5. Rear camera: Wide (main): 64 MP, f/1.8, 26mm, 1/1.97", 0.7µm, PDAF; Ultra wide angle: 8 MP, f/2.2, 120˚, 13mm, 1/4.0", 1.12µm; Macro: 2 MP, f/2.4. Front camera: 16 MP, (wide), under display. Video capture: Rear camera: 8K@30fps, 4K@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60/120/240fps; Front camera: 1080p@30/60fps. Battery: 5000mAh; Fast charging 135W, 50% in 5 min, 100% in 15 min (advertised), Power Delivery 3.0. Misc: Fingerprint reader (under display, optical); NFC; 3.5mm jack; stereo speakers. And when we say mostly, we do mean pretty much everything else. Except for the new paint jobs, there's little that sets the 7S Pro and the 7 Pro apart. The good news is that the marginal upgrade doesn't come at extra cost as the 7S Pro is priced the same as the 7 Pro. Last but not least, the 7S Pro gets a newer, better cooling system called ICE 10.0 Multi-Dimensional Cooling System. Quite the mouthful, but we expect it to be just as effective as the previous generation. All Red Magic phones we've tested so far - with the small exception of the Red Magic 6R - passed our sustained performance test with flying colors. Even without resorting to the active cooling fan, Red Magic phones have utilized the full potential of the Snapdragon flagship SoCs. Unboxing the nubia Red Magic 7S Pro The box is identical to the one holding the standard version and contains the same things - user manuals, the 65W Power Delivery 3.0 charger and a corresponding USB-C to USB-C cable. The transparent silicone case is also at hand, which is nice because it won't fully conceal the design. https://www.gsmarena.com/nubia_red_magic_7s_pro-review-2454.php
  11. T-Mobile has agreed to fork over $350 million to customers following a massive data breach last year that resulted in a class action lawsuit. The company made the disclosure in a securities filing on Friday. But if you were among the millions of T-Mobile victims caught up in this embarrassing incident? Don’t start celebrating at the thought of a huge T-Mobile settlement check coming your way. The company’s filing doesn’t actually specify how much individual customers can expect. The amount could be as low as $5-$10, according to one estimate. That’s just based on similar settlements in the past. The T-Mobile filing says the customers can’t request more than $2,500 each. T-Mobile settlement check In a new US Securities and Exchange Commission filing, the carrier said it had agreed to an aggregate payout of $350 million. That money will, of course, fund claims submitted by class members. But it will also pay attorney’s fees, plus the cost of administering the settlement. Needless to say, both of those two items will require far more from the settlement kitty than individual customers are getting. Moreover, for context, the entire settlement represents less than half of 1 percent of T-Mobile’s 2021 revenue. “If approved by the court,” the T-Mobile filing reads, “the Company anticipates this settlement of the class action, along with other settlements of separate consumer claims that have been previously completed or are currently pending, will resolve substantially all of the claims brought by the Company’s current, former and prospective customers who were impacted by the 2021 cyberattack. “In connection with the proposed class action settlement and the separate settlements, the Company expects to record a total pre-tax charge of approximately $400 million in the second quarter of 2022.” 2021 data breach The reason a T-Mobile settlement check was even necessary in the first place? It stems, as we noted above, from a data breach reported last year. A hacker claimed to have stolen a huge tranche of personal data from the carrier’s customers. As we wrote at the time, the carrier quickly investigated the hacker’s claims. The company “immediately closed the access point” that the hacker used to access its servers. But T-Mobile was then, unfortunately, able to verify that hackers had, in fact, stolen a subset of customer data. Some of that data contained personal information like customer names, dates of birth, and SSNs. Here are a few of the key findings that T-Mobile shared with its customers in a news release: Our preliminary analysis is that approximately 7.8 million current T-Mobile postpaid customer accounts’ information appears to be contained in the stolen files, as well as just over 40 million records of former or prospective customers who had previously applied for credit with T-Mobile. Near the end of the release, T-Mobile revealed a very important piece of information. The hack exposed the names, phone numbers, and account PINs of around 850,000 active T-Mobile prepaid customers. T-Mobile quickly reset those PINs and alerted customers about that reset. Bottom line, though: The T-Mobile settlement here sounds more like a win for lawyers than anyone else. https://bgr.com/business/heres-how-much-you-could-get-from-t-mobiles-data-breach-settlement/
  12. Male humpback whales are capable of learning incredibly complex songs to communicate with their mates, mates, and families. It happened between the waves of Australia. A team of scientists recorded, over 6 years, the behavior of male humpback whales. After hours of close observation, the researchers realized that these cetaceans are capable of learning incredibly complex songs from a very young age. Whether it's to find their babies, communicate with their mates, or find their way home, these animals memorize vibrations and 'words' that form complete pieces. Not only that. According to the study, recently published in Scientific Reports, humpback whales share their songs with other groups of cetaceans. Specifically, the behavior was observed between Australian and New Caledonian po[CENSORED]tions. Scientists are convinced that this is an example of how other species are capable of cultivating and transmitting culture, even between different groups. That's how it works. We suggest: Humpback whales are born in Mexico to learn how to survive A song that crosses the seas One of the findings that most impressed the research team was that humpback whale songs can travel miles. Beneath the waves, the vibrations they emit reach remarkable distances to reach their companions, explains Jenny Allen, leader of the research: "THIS INDICATES A LEVEL OF COMMUNICATION HIGHER THAN THOSE OBSERVED UNTIL NOW IN ANY NON-HUMAN SPECIES", EXPLAINS THE AUTHOR IN A COMMUNICATION. "OTHER THAN HUMANS, THIS IS REALLY THE ONLY EXAMPLE WE HAVE OF CULTURAL TRANSMISSION HAPPENING OVER THOUSANDS OF MILES." From the results of the study, the researchers think that this behavior is passed down from generation to generation. For this reason, one can speak of a cultural fabric between various species of cetaceans, they write in the study. Even despite the complexity of each 'piece' or 'song', whales of other species and other po[CENSORED]tion groups also learn these communication patterns—almost as if they were learning a new language. "[...] we found that the New Caledonian specimens learn the exact sounds, without simplifying or omitting anything," says Allen. She also reads: Whales consume more than three million microplastics daily, reveals a study The song that drowns in the marine traffic Another of the main findings of the study, by the University of Queensland (UQ) and is the result of collaboration with other Australian, New Caledonian and English universities, is that the transmission of knowledge occurs in specific areas. Many of them are linked to the feeding, breeding and migration of humpback whales. One of the richest is Antarctica. However, this cultural fabric is being disturbed by human activity. Currently, as a result of excessive industrial fishing, its songs are suffocated by the traffic of large-scale boats. The silence that they enjoyed in the seas for millennia is disturbed by noise pollution on their migratory routes, which often causes them to lose their way. Unable to communicate with their relatives and other close members of their groups, humpback whales seem to emit songs into the void. Just as it happens to us human beings, in an environment where there is a lot of noise, it is impossible for them to understand what their colleagues and family members are saying to them. Human beings, therefore, are the biggest threat to the songs of humpback whales, on a planet that is getting hotter, noisier and less suitable for cultural transmission. https://www.ngenespanol.com/animales/las-ballenas-jorobadas-heredan-sus-canciones-a-otros-cetaceos/
  13. The Dongfeng DF6 is the fourth sister of the Nissan Navara, along with the Renault Alaskan and the ill-fated Mercedes-Benz X-Class. Known as the Rich 6 in other markets, the DF6 is a cheaper and more accessible version of these trucks, but allowing Dongfeng can have a much more modern model and closer to its rivals. This is noticeable in its old 138 Hp 2.5 Turbodiesel engine and its rear axle with leaf springs, instead of the 2.3 engines and independent suspension that the Nissan model and its other sisters carry. The DF6 has a length of 5.29 meters, a wheelbase of 3.15 meters and a load capacity of 800 kilos. Single-wheel drive or 4WD versions are offered, with a 5MT or 6AT box. As standard, it is equipped with a double airbag, ISOFIX, ESP, hill start assistant, eco-leather upholstery, Smart Key, multimedia system with a 7 or 9-inch screen and a reversing camera (only available in the 4WD version). https://www.autocosmos.cl/autos/camionetas-chinas
  14. "Leave It to Beaver" actor Tony Dow, who played Wally Cleaver in the po[CENSORED]r sitcom, is in hospice, according to reports, less than three months after he announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer again. The 77-year-old actor and and his wife, Lauren Shulkind, put out a joint statement in May sharing the "very sad news" of his cancer diagnosis, though they didn't disclose details. "Dear Friends & Fans of Tony Dow, I have some very sad news to share with you. Unfortunately, Tony has once again been diagnosed with cancer. He is approaching this reality so bravely, but it is truly heartbreaking," the joint statement read. On "Leave It to Beaver," which aired on CBS and then ABC from 1957 to 1963, Wally was the older son of Ward and June, a straighter contrast to the quirkier main character of Theodore "Beaver" Cleaver (Jerry Mathers). A po[CENSORED]r jock, Wally was also ensnared in the schemes of his friend, the mischievous and smooth-talking Eddie Haskell (Ken Osmond). Dow later reprised his role as Wally in a "Beaver" spinoff from 1983 to 1989. He also directed several episodes of 1993's "Babylon 5" along with 1999 episodes of "Crusade" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." USA TODAY has reached out to the actor's representatives for more information. Fox News, CBS News and TMZ report that Dow’s family says he is in hospice. https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment/news/tony-dows-family-says-the-leave-it-to-beaver-actor-is-in-hospice-according-to-reports/ar-AAZZJgc?li=BBnb7Kz
