  4. Around 800 employees of the 108 and 102 ambulance services are on strike in the districts of Shimla, Solan, Chamba and Sirmaur over various demands. (Reuters image for representation) Kangra District Magistrate K K Saroch issued the orders. Those who do not return to work shall be punished, he said. ESMA was introduced to ensure continuing delivery of essential services. The Essential Services Maintenance (ESMA) Act was imposed in four districts of Himachal Pradesh today, following a strike by the employees of the 108 and 102 ambulance services. Kangra District Magistrate K K Saroch issued the orders in this regard here and said, "Those who do not return to work shall be punished in accordance with law." He added that before imposing ESMA, he had a meeting with the officials of the health and police departments, along with the in-charge of the ambulance services. The Essential Services Maintenance Act is an Act of Parliament, which was introduced to ensure a continuing delivery of certain services, which, if obstructed, would affect the normal life of people, including services related to public transports and the health sector. Saroch said the health department was asked to make alternative arrangements for patients till the resumption of the ambulance services. A health department official said they were taking the services of the drivers of other government departments. Around 800 employees of the 108 and 102 ambulance services are on strike in the districts of Shimla, Solan, Chamba and Sirmaur over various demands. Due to the strike, 92 ambulances of the 108 service and 125 of the 102 service are off the roads, causing great hardship to the patients. State Health Minister Vipin Parmar said even after several rounds of discussions, the employees had not called off the strike. He added that those not resuming work faced the threat of termination and that legal action would be initiated against those who tried to stop ambulances on roads.

A teenage girl and her 21-year-old cousin allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan after their families opposedtheir marriage. 4 (Image for Representation) Ateenage girl and her 21-year-old cousin allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan after their families opposed their marriage. The incident happened on Monday afternoon in Bawana. According to a report by the Indian Express, the duo wanted to get married but did not have the approval of their families. Gaurav Sharma, DCP, (Outer North) district, told the national daily that they received a call from a man saying that the two had hanged themselves with chunnis. Police also recovered a suicide note from the room, which purportedly read: We are sad and disappointed because our families won’t let us get married. They care about the family and pride but we care about us. Hence, we are taking this step. We found them hanging from chunnis; while one was found hanging from a fan, the other was found hanging from a hook on the ceiling. A suicide note signed by the two has been recovered, Sharma told Indian Express, adding that no foul play is suspected. According to the police, the man lived in Rajasthan’s Kota and was preparing for engineering entrance exams. The girl's family has said that the two were second cousins. Police have also found that the couple tried to elope in the first week of December, but were caught. The girl's family had also filed an FIR, which was withdrawn once the couple was found. The girl’s paternal uncle said that until last year the man would come to meet her in Delhi every month. "When his visits became frequent, we confronted him. He told us about their relationship and that they wanted to get married. We were shocked and told them to break off the relationship, the girl's uncle said. Another police officer said, We suspect the couple planned the suicide. After the girl’s parents left for work, the man came to her house and they committed suicide.

  14. Jet Airways staff likely to get remaining salary dues next month Financially-hit Jet Airways has already implemented a turnaround plan to reduce operational costs and plans to introduce a new revised payment schedule Crisis-hit carrier Jet Airways is likely to pay 25 per cent pending September salaries to senior staff by next month, said an internal source familiar with the decision. Speaking to business daily ET, a source said the airline is expected to reveal a revised payment schedule soon. This indicates that delays in paying salary may last longer than some of the staff members expected. The Naresh Goyal-promoted airline has been going through severe financial crunch since last year. It has suffered three consecutive quarterly losses, and is currently trying hard to make its turnaround planaimed at reducing operational costsa success. On Monday, a source said the airline had fired 16 more employees from its Kochi and Hyderabad offices, in addition to the 20 staffers who were asked to leave a month ago. The airline had also reportedly asked 15 managerial-level employees from various departments, including engineering, security and sales, to exit the company. The present situation is turning out to be a bitter experience for the airline staff and many have already protested openly against the board members over delayed salaries. Jet Airways pilots issued a threat last week to not perform additional duties from December 1 if their salaries were not duly credited by November 30. The Mumbai-based private airline comprises a fleet of 124 aircraft and a total workforce of around 16,000 individuals. Goyal is reportedly looking to hand over the operations of Jet Airways to Etihad Airlines, which already owns 24 per cent stake in Jet Airways. While there were confirmed reports of Tata Sons looking to take over the airline, it backed out recently after the board of directors expressed concerns over the financial performance of the airline In addition to the remaining September salary dues, the entire pay for October has been withheld for senior management along with pilots and engineers. While the 25 per cent due is likely to be cleared by December 5, the airline hopes to clear all other remaining dues by March 31 next year.
