  1. Game Informations : Developer: Peter Brown Platforms: PS4 Initial release date: January 26, 2016 at 6:00AM PST Gravity Rush's physics-defying gameplay attracted a following when it arrived on Vita in 2012, and now it's found a second wind on PlayStation 4 in a remastered version that both looks and plays better than the original. It has updated models and textures, runs twice as fast as the Vita version, and the larger TV format makes the details and scale of the world more apparent than they were on the Vita's modest five-inch screen. Gravity Rush offers an intriguing lead character, Kat, who can manipulate gravity at will. This power allows her to float, walk on ceilings, carry heavy objects, and fall in any direction--almost as if she can fly. You take control of her after she wakes up with amnesia in the whimsical city-in-the-sky, Hekseville, which was torn apart by a nearby gravitational disturbance, separating neighborhoods from one another and introducing alien-like enemies known as Nevi. Hekseville can be dangerous as a result, but it's also expansive and chock full of architectural features and hidden collectibles, making it a veritable playground with Kat's powers at your fingertips. It also bears a vibrant, steampunk-ish aesthetic that offers plenty of visual splendor to take in while hurdling through the sky, at times resembling the works of Studio Ghibli. Now Playing: Gravity Rush Remastered Video Review Kat and a likeable cast of NPCs keep you firmly engaged with Hekseville's current events, big and small alike. Kat's amnesia isn't a novel plot device, but the way she handles it endears you to her. Where a reasonable person may succumb to confusion, Kat finds her footing quickly, realizing that she can use her powers to help those in need, happily slipping on the guise of a superhero. She earns a reputation around town, and is quickly called away from small acts of kindness to tend to Hekseville's grander problems, which puts her toe-to-toe with high-powered military officials, a band of missing kids who resemble The Lost Boys from Peter Pan, and other individuals with super-powered abilities. Kat keeps a positive demeanor, but she's also quick to acknowledge when people are being greedy, odd, or otherwise abnormal, which paints a better picture of who she is and where she stands, both as an outlier and as a member of a quirky metropolitan society. Kat's abilities undoubtedly carry Gravity Rush, offering an experience that's similar to Mario's abilities in parts of the Super Mario Galaxy games. It's practically simple in execution, but difficult to master; tap a button to free yourself from gravity, aim the camera, and hit the same button again to direct gravity and send Kat forward. She can remain in a state of gravitational-flux as long as her power--indicated by a meter--lasts, but by exploring the world and collecting gems, she can cash-in and upgrade numerous aspects of her skillset. Some upgrades make your life easier, either by granting you greater strength or more time to correct a miscalculated trajectory, for example. Though you start as an awkward superhero with limited range, speed, and strength, you find your footing as time goes on, and using your powers becomes second-nature in short order. More than sheer experience, it's the variety of scenarios that you encounter which inform your understanding of Kat's abilities and limitations. You do spend a lot of time falling in a straight line at first, but there are sections that call for more complex maneuvers later on, such as winding through dense city streets or gliding along the surface of ramps in a manner similar to snowboarding. Where you may have faltered and crash-landed by accident in the early hours, you gracefully zip through the air and mitigate mistakes quicker after a few hours in Kat's shoes. The way that Kat's journey plays out masks the game's inherent learning curve well, freeing you up to pay attention to Hekseville's attractive architecture and vistas. Gravity Rush is filled with captivating sights, and it utilizes a charming art style that faintly resembles Hayao Miyazaki's (My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke) illustrative style. You don't spend a lot of time on the ground--an effect of falling in love with Kat's aerial exploits. But you do get to experience Hekseville's ornate structures from on high, clipping its tallest buildings, walking upside-down on the floating-city's underbelly, and gawking at dreamy silhouettes against the city's orange, green, and blue skies. These instances are better now than before, with the remastering process adding new geometry, sharper textures, and increasing the resolution to 1080p and the frame rate to 60fps. All of these improvements make Gravity Rush Remastered the definitive version of the game, and playing it on a TV allows you to take in the scale of the world's open spaces far better than on Vita's five-inch display. Tumbling through the air and witnessing the world around you are persistent joys, and it helps that you venture to otherworldly dimensions from time to time, each offering their own wonders. Tumbling through the air and witnessing the world around you are persistent joys, and it helps that you venture to otherworldly dimensions from time to time, each offering their own wonders. But the missions you undertake, be they story missions or optional challenge missions, fail to trigger excitement. You regularly have to navigate to specific points in Hekseville--which are always pinpointed on your map and in the HUD--to obtain an item or fight a group of enemies, and that's about it. Early combat in Gravity Rush kicks off on the ground, where Kat can combo into enemies with a series of kicks, and evade incoming attacks with a quick burst of speed. You quickly realize, however, that you are more effective when attacking from mid-air, dive-kicking into enemies' soft-spots. This attack, like your movement abilities, takes time to grasp, and the game gradually introduces bigger and stronger enemies to ease you into its ways. Unfortunately, beyond introducing greater danger, bigger enemies are handled the same: with a series of dive-kicks. You have access to a few special attacks that are tied to a cooldown meter, but these just help you get your job done faster, offering little in the way of newfound satisfaction in combat. There are a small number of boss encounters that mix things up a little, offering opponents that look and behave differently than standard enemies, but, again, they call for the same tactics as a regular battle, and thus do little to elevate Gravity Rush's combat as a whole. When you're enraptured with Gravity Rush's mechanics, world, and characters, time flies by. Even though the common tasks you undertake aren't original, the game as a whole offers an experience that's mesmerizing, thanks in large part to how easy it is to control Kat's power over gravity. Because of this, it's a bit of a letdown when the game ends. Sure, there are basic side-missions and challenges to undertake around the world, in addition to a plethora of hidden collectibles, but the story that guided you along a path filled with new, wondrous opportunities comes to a screeching halt without a clear resolution in sight. As we now know, Gravity Rush 2 is in production and will continue the tale told here, but that fact doesn't make up for the unsatisfactory ending. Gravity Rush comes off as formulaic at times, but it's also a wonderful joyride that's been enhanced by a generous remastering effort that makes it feel right at home on PS4. Despite its problems, Gravity Rush is an adventure worth taking not just because there's hardly anything like it, but because it leverages its distinct gameplay to great effect, freeing you from the hold of gravity in a world worth exploring.

  7. The Trump Administration has decided to put a veto on China's largest processor manufacturer, SMIC, which prohibits US companies from entering US companies' trade and technology deals with the Chinese smelter. What does this mean and how does it affect the market? Does the Chinese manufacturer have a future or will it disappear? SMIC is currently the largest semiconductor foundry on Chinese soil, it does not have the same production capacity as industry giants such as TSMC, Intel, Global Foundries, UMC, Samsung and many others. What's more, many Chinese companies do not manufacture their processors at SMICs but rather at foundries with higher production capacity or with much newer manufacturing technologies. Huawei, the cause of the US veto to SMIC SMIC veto Huawei Due to the political maneuvering of the Trump administration, Huawei was completely out of being able to manufacture its chips in TSMC so they had to look for an alternative, the only viable SMIC being, and it is precisely the commercial and technological relationship between Huawei and SMIC the one that has led to the veto. Huawei's plan? To use SMIC's 14nm node not only to manufacture the chips designed under its HiSilicon brand, but also to manufacture the 5G radios, whose design comes from Qualcomm. The problem is that in order for any chip to be manufactured, "blueprints" are needed and with the US veto of SMIC then they cannot manufacture any technology owned by a US company. SMIC-2 Taking into account that Huawei is a Chinese company, this may sound surprising, but it must be taken into account that what they need is to be able to manufacture 5G radio for their smartphones since without it then their terminals cannot connect to the network or make calls. . What happens is that this technology is owned by an American company: Qualcomm. The origin of the US-Huawei brawl? It started at the end of 2018, when Huawei's CFO was arrested in the US on the grounds that the Chinese company had violated sanctions on Iran. Since then the situation has escalated more and more until reaching the point of an exaggerated boycott that has affected the entire semiconductor industry and Huawei has become the plagued one, causing all those who make technological or commercial agreements with them to end up being banned. Will SMIC go bankrupt? SMIC The thing is not only reduced to the license of 5G radios, but there is another problem related to the veto that nobody talks about at the moment. It should be borne in mind that the ownership of ARM has passed from the hands of the Japanese Softbank, over which the US administration has no political authority, to the Californian NVIDIA. So the veto could also include a ban on SMIC from using ARM technology, which would be the final blow not only on Huawei but also on SMIC. Since they had planned to jointly build processors for PCs based on ARM, with the goal of Huawei to reposition its HiSilicon division.

  9. Game Informations : Developer: Kevin VanOrd Platforms: PS4 Initial release date: January 29, 2016 at 9:55AM PST Bad, boring, and broken: It’s a special hat trick performed only by the most special of games and the only accomplishment Bombshell is likely to be remembered for, if it will indeed be remembered at all. Until now, this isometric shooter was known primarily for its laughably awful initial trailer, and at least deserves dubious praise for living up to its marketing’s expectations; it is as underdeveloped and unexciting as our introduction to it. The “broken” moniker is a tricky one in modern game publishing, of course. The bugs I encountered may be fixed by the time you read this review, but I can only review a game as provided, though I will give some benefit of the doubt to developer Interceptor Entertainment, which provided a list of bugs I am promised will be fixed by full release. The bugs that didn’t appear on that list are numerous, though, and as of this review’s publication, include a game-ending crash that still hinders me from reaching the finale. It’s possible you may not make it that far, however: the first main boss broke repeatedly when I played, finally working properly on the 6th attempt, and leaving me with no clue as to why it broke to begin with. Presuming that this boss bug is corrected by the time you play, you must still contend with the scene’s vast design flaws, the most pressing of which is that the battle is utterly lacking in challenge or excitement. You can beat the first two of the boss’s three forms with only minimal movement, due to the boss’s very limited, and very predictable, attacks; the third form you can beat when barely moving at all, as there are several safe zones the fiend’s poison attack cannot reach. It may seem odd to analyze a single boss fight before getting to the gameplay at large, but this boss stands as a fine testament to Bombshell’s badness; all of the issues that diminish this boss curse the game in its entirety. “Boring” is the most obvious of these issues, and one that pervades every aspect of Bombshell. Enemy behavior and level design are the biggest offenders in this regard. You navigate numerous stages on several cliched alien worlds (fire-themed, ice-themed, etc.), gunning down any enemy that comes between you and the generic mission objective at hand. That the levels take a good while to clear isn’t the biggest drawback, though it is a contributing factor to the tedium. Instead, it’s the sheer lack of variety in enemies and scenery that proves the game’s biggest downfall. You take aim at the same few alien types over and over again, and most of them run or amble towards you senselessly, sometimes falling from ledges or getting stuck behind obstacles--and occasionally just standing in place, raising their blades up and down but otherwise doing nothing. (You might get a good laugh out of leaving the area, and then returning to find the same alien perpetually slicing the air, at least.) There is no cleverness to the level layouts, enemy placement, or enemy mix, and there are few activities outside of combat to alleviate the monotony. The simplistic puzzles you encounter are hardly interesting or worthy of mention. So you shoot some aliens in unexciting, unchallenging encounters, then walk a little while through an ice level that looks just like the last ice level you played, which looked just like the level before that. Occasionally, you might think Bombshell is about to heat up, only for the game to douse the fun. For instance, execution prompts appear over enemies’ heads from time to time, though all too often, a prompt appears but doesn’t work, leading to a few sad seconds of impotent button-hammering. Successful executions are equally sad, however, focusing on the titular heroine’s lifeless animations as she rips off an alien’s head with the enthusiasm of a long yawn. Yet I must give credit where credit’s due: the weapons are fun to handle, and the flamethrower deserves a shout-out for being one of Bombshell’s few, explosive bright spots, along with the bowling mines that seek enemies to destroy, and roll back to you if they can’t find a mark. Elsewhere, successful artistry is uncommon, most notably in Bombshell’s excruciatingly awful writing. Environments reveal some artistic savvy, using an array of runes, crystals, and statues to show off how the Unreal 3-powered lighting beautifully glistens and refracts. Elsewhere, successful artistry is uncommon, most notably in Bombshell’s excruciatingly awful writing. It’s tempting to celebrate the arrival of any female game protagonist when they’re in such short supply, but please: hold your applause. Shelly, as she’s usually called, speaks only in the hoariest cliches and dumbest of jokes. “How many aliens does it take to change a light bulb? None. They’re all dead,” she says, all too often, until that alien horse is dead, beaten, buried, unburied, beaten, and buried again. “And they said that aliens would never land on the White House lawn.” Who said that, Shelly, and when? Perhaps this is Bombshell making a self-aware joke, poking fun at its participation in an old science-fiction cliche; Bombshell makes a number of references to its own failings along the way. Hanging a lampshade on dull fetch quests doesn’t make things better, however, and it sends a disrespectful message: Bombshell’s repetitiveness was a choice. I don’t like being disrespected--and I doubt you do, either. And yet it’s reasonable to feel that way when playing a buggy, bland game with some of the worst writing you’re likely to hear in some time. It doesn’t make a bad first impression, but that’s how it fools you: it shows you the Bombshell that could have been, only to disappoint you by becoming the bomb it soon becomes. 12. ASUS brings us the TUF Gaming VG34VQL1B, an impressive ultra-wide curved monitor, with 21: 9 resolution and a huge refresh rate thanks to its 165 Hz, HDR support and 100% compatible with AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA Adaptive Sync. Which makes it a spectacular gaming monitor on paper. But how is this new monitor from ASUS presented? One of the elements that differentiates the PC from the consoles is the support in personal computers of all types of monitors, with different resolutions and different form factors. And it is that ultra-panoramic monitors are excellent for certain genres for which having the maximum information on the screen is essential, such as strategy games where we are allowed to see more of the battlefield. - We are facing an ultra panoramic monitor. 21: 9, with a WQHD resolution (3440 × 1440 pixels), it also has a refresh rate of 165 Hz, which in combination with its response time of only 1 ms makes it a high-caliber gaming monitor, which thanks upon its resolution it will allow us not to lose detail of the action in the game. The monitor also follows several VESA regulations, such as the Adaptative Sync, so with this monitor you can take full advantage of your NVIDIA card with support for this technology. In the case that your card is an AMD Radeon, then you have to know that this monitor has FreeSync Premium support. The second supported VESA standard is the DisplayHDR 400, which natively supports the high dynamic range format, HDR10. Integrated ASUS technology ASUS DisplayWidget The TUF Gaming VG34VQL1B from ASUS has a series of technologies, some exclusive to ASUS, built into the monitor as standard. Shadow Boost, which makes the darkest and least visible areas in the game lighter. GamePlus that offers additional tools such as a frame counter so that you know how your games are performing, GameVisual provides 7 preset viewing modes, Screen anti-flicker technology. Technology to reduce the amount of blue light so that the monitor does not overload the view from using it for a long time. All of them can be configured through ASUS DisplayWidget Lite software. ASUS TUF Gaming VG34VQL1BASUS-TUF-Gaming-VG34VQL1B-5 connectivity At the back we can find two HDMI 2.0 ports, two DisplayPort v1.4 ports, Actually the support for HDMI 2.1 is slightly missing, but this is not a problem since none of the new consoles generation supports these resolutions, but at the PC level it would not be bad at all, although the DisplayPort v1.4 delivers more than enough. As for the ability to reproduce audio, the monitor comes with a pair of 2W speakers and comes with a mini-jack for headphones. It also has four USB 3.0 ports of type A, of which three of them are to connect peripherals and the fourth to connect it to the PC, so the monitor has a built-in USB hub as standard.

  13. Microsoft is working on how to bring Android applications to Windows 10 through its 'online' store and for this it is developing the 'Latte' project, based on the Windows subsystem for Linux. Currently, Windows 10 users can use Android applications on their computers through the 'Your phone' application, which streams them, but is limited to a few Samsung devices. 'Latte' is the code name of the project with which Microsoft would allow Android 'apps' to be installed and run natively on Windows 10, according to sources familiar with this plan told Windows Central. It is expected to be available next year. Microsoft has increased support in Windows 10 in recent years for different application platforms, such as PWA, UWP, Win32 and Linux. With Latte, you would extend to Android applications, and you would do so through the Windows subsystem for Linux, with which you would provide your own Android subsystem.

  14. Game Informations : Developer: Mike Mahardy Platforms: PS4 Initial release date: March 14, 2016 at 2:00PM PDT Lacrosse is a game of precision interrupted by bouts of impact--a fluid sport with jagged edges. Casey Powell Lacrosse 16, much to its detriment, conveys both poles in extremely unequal measures. Its harsh exterior obscures any redeeming factors hiding inside. This marks the latest attempt to capture lacrosse in video game form, following the College Lacrosse mobile series. It's a widespread sport, and growing in popularity by the year, but compared to the titans of football, basketball, baseball, and soccer, it's obscure. Yet it seems ripe for digital adaptation: it's entertaining, physical, and fast-paced. Casey Powell Lacrosse, however, fails to establish a foothold. It does show initial signs of promise: there's the ebb and flow of a methodical offensive possession, the rush of a momentous fast-break, the teamwork of a defensive stand. At times, it looks like lacrosse ought to: smooth, stylish, and sleek. When Casey Powell Lacrosse conveys what makes the sport exciting, it excels. But those moments are few and far between. Throughout my midfielder's season with the Syracuse Citrus (there are no licenses for real teams in Casey Powell Lacrosse) I struggled with opaque controls, loose movement, jarring cinematics, and poor AI. The latter is the most frustrating: I can't snipe top-shelf over the goalie's off-hand if my attackman teammate won't get out of my way. I can't rip a rebound shot if my middy chases the ground ball at little more than a jog. I can't split two defenders from behind the goal and feed my best shooter if he's sprinting in the opposite direction, seemingly alarmed at something happening in the bleachers across the field. Even if he was in position, it wouldn't matter. Dodging--or any sort of movement at all--is tedious in itself. Casey Powell Lacrosse makes you switch to your weak hand manually. Using your off-hand is an important skill in lacrosse, especially for players in the attack (dedicated offense) position, who often have to beat skilled longpole defenders. But pressing a button just to switch hands is an added hindrance in a game already replete with them. Other sports games make this an automatic action as you sprint down the field, glide across the ice, or cross the soccer pitch. Not Casey Powell Lacrosse, though. The movement here is poor in general. It feels more like you're floating above the turf than running over it, removing any feeling of contact with the ground. I often entered the opposing team's crease, thereby turning the ball over, because my player kept jogging long after I tried to turn him around. The same floatiness also applies to defense. When trying to body check an offensive threat, they can slide right by me in an awkward animation as my defender extends his gloves into an empty void. Then there's the rate at which you cross the field: incredibly slow. The sprint action makes no difference, letting opposing attackmen magnetize to me as I try to move the ball from my side of the field. Clearing should be a challenge, but here, it can be a desperate battle. I expect to battle a staunch defense. I don't want to battle dense controls. If your steady crawl does get you across midfield, you can play offense--but there are design obstacles here as well. Chief among them are the the overly complex stick controls. Quick shots are easy, requiring only a flick of the analog to perform. But quick-release shots are only helpful on the goalie's doorstep, or pinging the crossbar after a cut across the center. Any situation calling for a hard outside rip is a nuisance--some shots require a simultaneous pull of the left trigger, others a tap of the right shoulder button, others a half rotation of the analog stick. Passing is a problem as well, leading to numerous turnovers and mishaps on both sides of the field. By holding the trigger, I bring up a floating dot above potential receivers' heads. This system would be simple and effective, but given the fact that the dot often jumps to another player just as I release the trigger, it's not. Casey Powell Lacrosse can feel great when the passing, shooting, and movement all play their part. But they rarely do. I expect to battle a staunch defense. I don't want to battle dense controls. The game's presentation doesn't do its poor mechanics any favors. Character models resemble neanderthals more than modern human beings, with hair gravitating somewhere between uncooked spaghetti and rotten pineapple husks. Their heads are often disproportionate to their bodies, too, making them look less human, removing me from the experience as I navigate the team management menus. The cinematics refuse to pull their weight as well. At one point, I scored a goal just as the clock hit zero and the game ended. My players leapt around the field, arms raised high as they performed their own personal celebrations and victory laps, high on the rush of a last-second goal. That denial embodies the experience of playing Casey Powell Lacrosse 16: trying to enjoy yourself despite the ordeal you just suffered. There's no finesse here, no style, and all too few moments where it actually resembles the source material it's trying to represent. The sport of lacrosse may be growing in popularity by the year, but it still lacks a proper video game representative. System requeriments. Memory: 8 GB RAM. Graphics: Radeon HD 7790 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 with minimum 2GB Memory. DirectX: Version 10.

  16. Monitors are one of the most important output devices, if not the most, and they have undergone a continuous evolution that causes them to end up in a closet or storage room before their time of life. Wouldn't it be better to take advantage of it instead of collecting space and dust? That is why we make a few recommendations to give your retired monitor a second life. It is not good to throw things away and even less something as useful as a monitor, which you can give it new uses so that it continues to help you on a day-to-day basis, whether for work tasks or during leisure times. Make it a second screen Dual Monitor If you work in an environment in which you continually have to change from window to window, either moving data from one window to another or in other circumstances, then we recommend rescuing your old monitor and using it as a second screen to facilitate your work. Of course, make sure that the graphic card of your PC has an output according to the video input of the monitor as long as you can connect both, in case you find that you cannot do it, remember that there are HDMI or DisplayPort adapters to VGA. Use your old monitor as a television Bedroom TV You may need a television to place it in another place outside the living room, for this there are several different solutions. If you are used to seeing Streaming platforms and your monitor has an HDMI input, you can connect one of those USB keys that transform any screen into a PostPC device, and it is that after all, Smart TVs are nothing more than screens with this built-in hardware and TV tuner. And speaking of TV tuners, there are devices, the so-called "TV Tuner" that allow you to tune the television in the event that your favorite series or channel is not broadcast by streaming platforms, but these are a lottery. The recommendation is that you buy a Raspberry Pi and connect the Raspberry TV-Shield DVB-T2 to it.
  17. OPPO has announced Full-path, the first Android color management system that supports the full DCI-P3 gamut and 10-bit color depth in capture, storage and display, which will arrive with the Find X3 series devices in 2021. . Full-path is based on the color performance of the OPPO Find X2 Pro, and has been developed to support 10-bit image capture and the HEIF format, as the company explains in a statement. With it, Oppo delivers "an exceptional visual experience with true and accurate color reproduction." The system is a comprehensive solution that spans from image acquisition to computation, encoding, storage, decoding, and finally display, supporting a HEIF image with 10-bit color depth and the entire wide gamut. colored P3. The Full-path management system uses complex algorithm and hardware in order to record color in capture. The algorithms have been created in areas such as distortion correction, multi-stream noise reduction, and extreme perceptual super-resolution. Also, OPPO will support image sensors with HDR Digital Overlay (DOL) mode. DOL-HDR technology allows you to synthesize different exposure conditions in an image, allowing you to capture bright colors even when photos are taken against the light. The Oppo screen calibration procedure allows achieving a color precision of the level of a digital film, of about 0.4 JNCD, as pointed out by the company. On the other hand, the proprietary algorithm ensures color gamut compatibility by matching the DCI-P3 with the D65 white point in the center of the color space. At about half the size of a JPEG image, the HEIF format is fully compatible with a wide variety of multimedia resources, such as still images, Exif, depth information, and dynamic videos. Full-path, the "first Android color management system that supports the full DCI-P3 gamut and 10-bit color depth", as noted by the company, will be available in OPPO's Find X3 series, scheduled for 2021 .
  18. Game Informations : Developer: Josiah Renaudin Platforms: PS4 Initial release date: May 7, 2015 at 9:50AM PDT If you chip away at Remnants of Isolation's outer shell--its piano-heavy soundtrack, turn-based combat, and vibrant color palette--you're left with a lifeless love story. This dyadic core leaks into each subsequent layer, from the party system that never expands beyond a twosome to the title screen overpowered by two tightly clutched hands superimposed over a gang of silhouetted fiends unmoved by the romance. The narrative drives the experience, but the ride is neither touching nor inspiring. The bond between hero and heroine is hampered by the female character's lack of a voice, and the inconsistent writing makes it difficult to care when the male lead fumbles his way through conversations. The surrounding elements have their charm, but Remnants of Isolation falls far short of making a believable or memorable emotional connection. The stage is set with a scene of isolation. Stowed away in a castle is a lilac-skinned girl with eyes of mismatched colors, absent a voice but masterful with an acoustic instrument that she can summon from thin air. She's alone and seems to have been that way for some time, but that changes once she's mysteriously freed from her prison and runs into a brash, out-of-sorts mage, quick to make friends. Unfortunately, the girl cannot speak to the nature of the castle (or speak at all, for that matter), so the couple must explore its many corridors to discover their purpose for being there and, more importantly, how to escape. Learning both characters' connections to the castle can be interesting, but Remnants of Isolation runs just shy of three hours. That gives these two strangers a remarkably short window to get to know each other, let alone foster any sort of tender relationship. Additionally--and I'll continue to press this issue--the female lead is mute. Maybe it's her prolonged confinement that's kept her silent, but robbing such a substantial character of opinions, personality, and any opportunity to connect with the player at a deeper level is a missed opportunity. The text boxes are dominated by the hero, Melchior, who alternates between exposition-heavy blurbs and uncomfortable romantic gestures that he often retracts in embarrassment. The scattered notes that provide context for your environment tend to be well-written and mostly interesting, but the dialogue leads to more eyes rolled than hearts warmed. The link that the duo shares during battle is much more substantive. Along with a standard physical attack, each character can launch either an "innate" ability or a spell. Using your fire, ice, or lightning magic on its own doles out significant damage, but leading with one character's innate ability and following with the other's spell produces a combination attack that might do double damage, hit multiple targets, or cause myriad status effects. As you gain levels and acquire new abilities, your arsenal of offensive and defensive maneuvers expands, and you often need to experiment mid-battle to come up with combos that hit the hardest. For a two-character, turn-based system, there's plenty of strategy here. Both players start each battle with just three MP--gaining two additional points per turn--so it's critical to balance your attacks and not lean too heavily on a single spell or character, lest you run your MP dry. The enemies you run into don't go down easy, either, and the creatures you encounter don't often respawn after being defeated. Grinding out levels and currency isn't a viable option, so Remnants of Isolation trusts you to fight the fights presented and choose well-timed techniques over brute force. Creating new gear and optimizing your characters is rewarding, but the game's linearity and brief runtime don't allow for much variability in how you outfit your party. You earn souls from each battle, and this currency is used to create weapons, armor, and items. If there were a deeper weapons cache--multiple status effects tied to specific items or armor that heavily favored magic defense over physical defense--this system might be more interesting. There's an optimal permutation for each character, and as long as you engage in most battles and smartly spend your souls, you'll easily maximize your gear before the final encounter. The most emotionally resonant aspect of Remnants of Isolation might just be its sound design. The sweet, soft soundtrack is expertly accented by the satisfying pings and hums associated with even the most ordinary actions. Opening chests and surfing through menus just sounds good, but the visual counterpart does little to complement the sound. Remnants of Isolation was crafted in RPG Maker, so its familiar assets and a run-of-the-mill fantasy aesthetic make for an uneven visual package, and being forced to play in windowed mode doesn't exactly benefit the experience, either. It just doesn't strike as many chords or hit as many notes as it should. Remnants of Isolation is a truncated RPG that never allows its story or progression system to properly develop, and while the focus on a pair instead of a full party pays off in combat, the woefully undercooked bond between the protagonists never does enough to make you care about any of the three possible endings. It can be sweet, but Remnants of Isolation has far too many potholes to be worth its notably short ride. 23. Google has announced a new function in its recorder that through 'machine learning', or automatic learning, is capable of automatically marking the most important words of voice transcripts. The new function, called 'Smart Scrolling', is able to extract the keywords from each section of the transcripts and choose which parts of the text are the most informative. "Smart Scrolling offers additional text navigation capabilities that will further enhance the usefulness of the recorder, allowing users to quickly display sections of interest, even for long recordings," noted Google on its blog. To select keywords in the text, the model uses the ratio of the number of occurrences of a word compared to the conversational data set, but also takes into account how specific or broad the term is. Likewise, Google has indicated that the models used for this function are "light enough to run on the device without the need to load the transcript, thus preserving the privacy of the user." So far, the company has tested this feature on its Pixel 5 phones, but has not offered details on when it will be released for all devices.
