Mercedes-Benz’s Maybach division already makes the largest version of the S-class (the Pullman) and the most secure version of the S-class (the S600 Guard). But what if you want to combine both of these extremes into one massive armored limousine? Maybach is now happy to oblige that desire with the new Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman Guard.
Perfect for well-to-do dignitaries and other VIPs, this imposing new S-class takes the 21-foot-long stretched body from the standard Pullman and upfits it to meet the same impressive level of protection as the S600 Guard. More specifically, that means overall protection up to the VR9 protection class standard (including glass areas) and blast resistance that meets Directive ERV 2010 requirements. Translation: It takes a lot of firepower to bust through the reinforced body structure and laminated, polycarbonate-coated windows.
Mercedes says that the Guard treatment doesn’t require any compromises on the Pullman’s extravagantly spacious and luxurious interior. Standard equipment includes a partition aft of the driver, leather upholstery everywhere you can think of, and sumptuous “executive” seats with adjustable footrests. As expected, customers will be privy to all sorts of customization possibilities.
The Pullman Guard’s 530-hp, twin-turbo V-12 engine will have its work cut out for it moving around the car’s whopping 12,000-plus-pound curb weight—that’s even heavier than an absolutely massive GMC Topkick C4500 we tested back in 2005. So we’re not surprised that the Pullman Guard is limited to a top speed of 99 mph.
