Canonical, the corporate sponsor of the po[CENSORED]r Ubuntu distribution, has announced the launch of their latest Ubuntu 21.10, which they claim is “made for Ubuntu developers.” Code name Impish Indri, Canonical hails Ubuntu 21.10 as the most productive environment for cloud-native developers. “From the biggest public clouds to the tiniest devices, from DGX servers to Windows WSL workstations, open source is the springboard for new ideas and Ubuntu makes that springboard safe, secure and consistent,” remarked Canonical’s CEO, Mark Shuttleworth. Check our roundup of the best Linux distros Here are the best Linux laptops for running Linux Also take a look at the best laptops for programming Developers galore Arguing that modern development practices rely on containerized images that are consistent, and trustworthy, Canonical shares that with the release it has also published Ubuntu 21.10 images in the Open Container Initiative (OCI) format on Docker Hub and the Amazon ECR Public Registry. Other developer-centric highlights of Ubuntu 21.10 include the availability of Apache Cassandra now packaged as a snap, as well as PHP 8 and GCC 11 including full support for static analysis. The release is built around Linux kernel v5.13, which introduces support for the Kernel Electric Fence (KFENCE) memory error detector. The feature is enabled by default on Ubuntu 21.10 and will randomize the memory location of the kernel stack at each system-call entry on both the amd64 and arm64 architectures. Ubuntu 21.10 is the final interim release before the next Ubuntu Long Term Support (LTS) due to be released in April 2022. Also check our collection of the best Linux distros for business

Like the best mechanical keyboards, large mouse mats that stretch far enough to put even a keyboard on can be expensive and an easy-to-ignore accessory that nonetheless greatly increases comfort when either gaming or working. The larger your mat, the less frequently you’ll need to lift your mouse up to reposition it, after all. That, or you can go without a mouse mat and let your desk wear down your mouse’s feet. But when faced with inducing wear and tear on precious peripherals, many gamers instead choose to lean into the mouse mat lifestyle and go for premium options like the best RGB mouse pads. That’s where you get accessories like the HyperX Pulsefire Mat, a massive rodent rug with two RGB modes that’s both grippy and feels comfortable on your wrists. But this model might be a little too large for some desks. The Pulsefire isn’t HyperX’s first foray into mouse pads or mouse mats, but it is the company’s first RGB mouse mat that’s available in HyperX’s XL size. Previously, you were limited to the mostly square-ish shaped Fury Ultra mouse mat, which is 14.15 x 11.79 inches (359.4 x 299.4mm), if you wanted RGB. While a square-ish shape isn’t for everyone, HyperX’s XL sized mouse mats aren’t without their own requirements. At 35.43 x 16.54 inches (900 x 420mm), I couldn’t quite fit this big boy on my 47.5 x 23.75 inch (1,206.5 x 603.25mm) desk without leaving some of it hanging over the edge. Yes, it technically fits, but it’s just too long to leave me any space for my monitor stand. To be fair to HyperX, this mouse mat does say XL right on the box, but since it doesn’t seem to be available in any other sizes quite yet, you’ll want to make sure that it will fit in your setup before considering it. Hopefully HyperX will offer up a somewhat smaller option that keeps the same or similar dimensions. Because I do prefer wider, more rectangular, mats. That said, all the space afforded by the Pulsefire did mean I never felt cramped when either working or gaming. While my daily driver before getting the Pulsefire was an already large 29.75 x 11.25 inch (755.65 x 285.75mm) Pecham mouse mat, I found myself lifting my mouse off the mat much less frequently with the Pulsefire. Aside from being more comfortable ergonomically, this also made arm aiming in shooters easier, allowing me to play with lower sensitivities and therefore make precise shots more easily. The Pulsefire mat also felt more comfortable on my wrists than my relatively thin and light Pecham mat. Its rubber base has a series of dots for enhanced grip, which definitely did the job, as I couldn’t adjust the mouse mat without either applying a lot of force or lifting it off my desk almost entirely. The mouse mat’s top surface is made of familiar “densely woven cloth,” which when combined with the rubber bottom, gives you a decent amount of cushioning when placing your wrists or even your entire forearms on it. It’s not a replacement for a full wrist rest, but it does beat my desk’s hard metal surface. This cloth also has a slightly bumpy texturing on it, which seemed like it would be rough and uncomfortable at first but instead simply helped give me extra feedback for large mouse movements. The bumpy surface also helped keep my peripherals in place. This mouse mat’s edges lie flat with the rest of the Pulsefire’s surface and aren’t likely to fray easily, thanks to the silicone housing the RGB strips lining the mouse mat’s entire perimeter. This was a major improvement over my Pecham mouse mat, which has edges that sit slightly taller than the rest of the mat fabric in places, and it’s already starting to fray after a few years of use. I also found myself appreciating the two-zone RGB around the mouse mat’s edges a lot more than I thought I would. I usually don’t like RGB peripherals, since I feel like they tend to make my desk feel more cluttered, but the lighting here made it easy to tell at a glance when I was about to hit the mouse mat’s edge during a sweeping mouse movement. That’s not likely to happen much with a mat this large, but it helped put my mind at ease regardless. Despite the clear quality of this mouse mat’s materials, much of its $50 price tag probably stems from its RGB functionality. For instance, HyperX’s XL sized Fury S mouse mat is largely identical to the Pulsefire, but is $30.00 without RGB. For your extra $20, you’ll get two zones of RGB control plus a touch-based sensor on the top left side of the mat for swapping between three profiles. By default, these profiles simply set the mouse mat to use one of three wave patterns composed of different colors, but you can further customize your RGB in the HyperX Ngenuity app. You can also long press the touch sensor to toggle the RGB off. The Ngenuity app has access to the full RGB spectrum, plus controls for opacity and speed when applicable. Supported effects include cycling, breathing, a wave pattern and just putting out a solid color. You can apply different colors and effects individually across two different zones, with one zone comprising the mouse mat’s top and right sides and the other lighting up its left and bottom sides. The Pulsefire’s RGB touch sensor did present a small annoyance in my time with the mat, since it’s thicker than the mouse mat itself. This meant it lifted up the top left corner of the mat surrounding it. Still, I could fix this issue by simply placing a heavy object on top of the lifted portion of the mat, and it’s likely that doing so over time would fix this problem entirely. When compared to other RGB mouse mats from premium peripheral manufacturers, the HyperX Pulsefire is an affordable and large option with a comfortable surface and plenty of customizability. It’s a shame, though, that it doesn’t come in other sizes, since its 35.43 x 16.54 inch (900 x 420mm) dimensions leave me with little room on my desk for much else.

This project, created by Reddit user Su77ungr, puts a spin on traditional displays in the most literal sense possible. Using a Raspberry Pi, he’s managed to create a rotating screen that operates just like the Samsung Sero TV. If you've never seen a Sero in action, you'll now that it works by synchronizing with a smartphone to both display what's on the screen and rotate to match the orientation of the phone. In this project, a Raspberry Pi 4 is used to cast an Android screen and send a signal to rotate the monitor. A YouTube video is available showing the build process. We spotted an L298D motor controller connected between the Raspberry Pi and a T150 USB steering wheel. According to Su77ungr, no steering wheels were harmed in the making of this project, just disassembled for the hardware inside. At full speed, it’s capable of spinning a 32-inch monitor To stream the Android display, Su77ungr is using a fork of the Scrcpy repository designed to provide screen mirror support over TCP/IP to, in this case, the Raspberry Pi. Check out Scrcpy at GitHub to see what it’s capable of, users can also use it with Linux, MacOS and Windows. To get a closer look at this project and see a demo run, check out Su77ungr’s official YouTube channel and be sure to follow him for more cool projects.

For many of us, it has been one of the most important apps of the lockdown and remote working world, but Microsoft Teams could be in hot water following complaints from some of its rivals. The video conferencing tool is facing an investigation from European Union antitrust regulators after a protest from Slack. The online collaboration platform has complained that having the Microsoft Teams app so firmly integrated into the company's Office suite gives it an unfair advantage. We've built a list of the best business webcams around Here's our list of the best VoIP services out there Check out out list of the best headsets for conference calls right now Teams dominance? According to Reuters, the European Commission has sent out a questionnaire to several Microsoft Teams rivals focusing on the period covering 2016 to 2021. The form covers a range of areas, including asking for a list of customers who have switched to Microsoft Teams or its bundled Office, as well as how much the pandemic has boosted demand for remote working tools such as video conferencing. Rivals will also be quizzed on any revenue losses seen since the launch of Teams, as well as any effect on research and development, and how it has affected the quality and price of their products. It's not known exactly which rivals are being consulted as part of the research, but it should be expected that Slack is involved, with other online collaboration giants such as Zoom, Google Meet and Cisco WebEx also likely to have been asked. Slack says that the bundling of Microsoft Teams with Office gives the tool a boost by suggesting it is the most suitable option for users. It also says that uninstalling Teams is unnecessarily complex, and Microsoft was refusing to provide guidance on how it would allow its service to work with rival platforms such as Slack. The company has asked the EU to split Teams and Office to make sure rival services such as itself are given a fair chance. Microsoft Teams has grown rapidly over the past 18 months due to the huge number of workers forced to work from home during the pandemic. The software is also set to play a central role in Windows 11, where it will be placed front and centre in the taskbar, with Microsoft apparently looking to make Teams 2.0 the one central communications hub for users. As we approach the rumored November 4 announcement for Alder Lake, more information about the hybrid chips has come to light. On this occasion, a Chinese netizen (via momomo_us) has shared some insights on Intel's next-generation platform. As with any leak, it’s prudent to exercise caution when approaching the information. If the rumors are accurate, the Core i5, Core i7 and Core i9 K/KF-series will lead the charge for the Alder Lake army. Since these are unlocked SKUs, motherboard vendors will launch their Z690 products first. According to a BiliBili user, we can expect the non-K models and the more accessible B660 and H610 motherboards to arrive in January 2021. Alder Lake purportedly has good headroom for overclocking. The leaker mentioned that a 5.2 GHz to 5.3 GHz all-core boost clock is available if you turn off the Gracemont cores. Heat dissipation may be decent as well thanks to the large integrated heat spreader (IHS). Outside of improving overclocking margins, disabling the Gracemont cores doesn't help lower power consumption, though. FIVR's Return (Kinda) As per the tipster's information, Alder Lake's V-Core and Core GT (iGPU) voltages stick to the normal scheme and only the Uncore conforms to Intel's FIVR (Fully Integrated Voltage Regulator) design. Intel seemingly combined the VCCSA and VCCIO voltages, and processors may need around 1.8V to post before FIVR kicks in to step it down. In terms of best bang for your buck, the user thinks that the Core i5-12400 is the chip to pick up. The Alder Lake processor wields six Golden Cove cores with Hyper-Threading and doesn't have any Gracemont cores. Even though it only has a 4 GHz all-core boost clock speed, it should be a substantial upgrade over the Core i5-11400 or the older Core i5-10400. As we already know, Alder Lake will only shine on Windows 11 with the new hardware scheduler. In Windows 10, programs and games will only work the Gracemont cores. Games that have been optimized for Windows 11 will put the Gracemont cores to sleep so the Golden Cove cores will have exclusive access to the large L3 cache. A few months ago, a mysterious document showed that Intel was reportedly pushing the ATX12VO power connector with Alder Lake. However, there's nothing to worry about. The tipster estimated that over 90% of the 600-series motherboards will arrive with the conventional ATX 24-pin 12V power connector. Take Your Pick: DDR4 or DDR5 Alder Lake natively supports DDR5-4800 or DDR4-3200 memory modules. When it comes to LGA1700 motherboards, we'll either get one or the other. For DDR5, we probably won't see those rare motherboards that support two different memory slots. Remember that DDR5 has its own 12V power management IC (PMIC) for voltage regulation. As a result, LGA1700 motherboards will not longer carry buck converters, but DDR4 still needs those. Therefore, the possibility of both DDR4 and DDR5 coexisting on a LGA1700 motherboard is less than 1%. Memory will function differently with Alder Lake, depending if it's DDR4 or DDR5. DDR4 can run on Gear 1, but the ceiling is at DDR4-3600. Increasing the uncore voltage could bump it up to DDR4-3866, though. By default, DDR5 will only run on Gear 2, due to the high data rate. In order to see any improvement over DDR4, DDR5 needs to be clocked over DDR5-8000. Gear 4 is present for future DDR5 memory modules that exceed DDR5-10000. In addition to DDR5 support, Alder Lake will leverage PCIe 5.0, but in a limited way. The processor reportedly offers a PCIe 5.0 x16 connection to the primary PCIe expansion slot whereas the connection to the M.2 slots, for example, is still confined to PCIe 4.0 speeds. AMD has shown us that PCIe 4.0 functionality takes a heavy toll on the chipset to a point where active cooling is required. The Chinese leaker claimed that Intel's 600-series chipsets don't run hot, or at least not enough to warrant a cooling fan. Lastly, the Bilibili user believes that Alder Lake will be a lot more expensive than Rocket Lake. Early U.S. retailer listings lend credence to his notion. He went on to mention that the supply for the fourth quarter of this year is around 300,000 units, although he didn't specify if that number corresponds to the Chinese or Asian market.

Musician Name:Nick Rotteveel Birthday / Location: January 6, 1989 (32 years old) Amerongen, Utrecht Netherlands Main instrument: EDM, House, Progressive House, Electro House Musician Picture: Musician Awards & Nominations:- Best Performance: - Other Information: School was never of interest to him, so, soon after finishing his studies, he started working as a waiter, for a while, in a bar, a place that made him wake up to the world of electronic music and to start being a DJ, it was also when he started producing music. Finally, he signed with his first label, Once Records, where he subsequently released the tracks "Privilege" and "Qwerty". Shortly thereafter the track titled "Funktion One" was released. From that moment on everything quickly changed. Dutch DJ and producer Madskillz signed "Funktion One" with Azucar (Madskillz and Gregor Salto's record label) in conjunction with the track "Hear My Sound". In 2009, he remixed Sidney Samson and Tony Cha Cha's track "Get on the Floor", and also did a bootleg for David Guetta's "When Love Takes Over". Both tracks got a lot of publicity, which prompted Ministry of Sound to contact him to remix some tracks from the label. Gradually, some videos were appearing on YouTube, with several DJs playing Nicky Romero's bootleg from "When Love Takes Over". In the same year, he also remixed the track "Alamo" by Dirty South. In 2010, Nicky came up with a new track called "My Friend" (released by Spinnin'), which features a preview of the well-known Groove Armada track, which has the same name. The combination of Groove Armada and Romero's innovative sound resulted in a great track. "My Friend" was performed by Tiesto, Axwell, Fedde le Grand, Sander van Doorn and many more. This track reached #4 on the Beatport main rankings, #1 on the Dance-Tunes charts and several other famous DJ rankings. In 2011, we saw Romero release many remixes such as David Guetta's "Where The Girls At" with Flo Rida and Nicki Minaj, Alex Gaudino's "What A Feeling" with Kelly Rowland, Erick Morillo & Eddie Thoneick's "Stronger" with Shawnee Taylor, "Where Is The Love" by Eddie Thoneick and "Rockin' High" by Ben Liebrand.

Windows 11 security is something of a hot topic, as the revamped OS comes with much tighter defenses than Windows 10, but with the side-effect of creating controversy and confusion on the system requirements front (and indeed for gamers – more on that later). However, Microsoft recently produced a video to show how Windows 11’s new protective measures – which include TPM (Trusted Platform Module), Secure Boot and VBS (Virtualization-Based Security) – help to make systems safer against hackers. Furthermore, it reminds us these moves are an extension of what was already happening with Windows 10 (but crucially, not on a compulsory level). Download the best Windows 10 antivirus Check out all the best PC games We'll show you how to build a PC The clip stars Microsoft’s security expert Dave Weston who explains more about why this higher level of security, which entails the aforementioned raised hardware requirements – including support for TPM 2.0, which rules out a fair number of not-all-that-old PCs – is required to defend against some potentially nasty security breaches. Weston shows how this nastiness could play out in real world situations, first of all demonstrating a remote attack leveraging an open RDP (remote desktop protocol) port, brute forcing the password, and then infecting the machine with ransomware. This was on a PC without TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, and naturally, wouldn’t be possible on a Windows 11 system. The second attack used for demo purposes is an in-person one using a PCI Leech device to access system memory and bypass fingerprint recognition to login. VBS stops this kind of attack being leveraged against a Windows 11 system, and the former remote attack is prevented by UEFI, Secure Boot and Trusted Boot (in conjunction with TPM). Analysis: Land of confusion This is an interesting look at the nuts-and-bolts of how these security countermeasures work against real life attacks. Clearly, in some scenarios there are good reasons for mandating TPM and the other mentioned security technologies to help keep a PC safer against a possible attack, whether that’s a remote or local intrusion. No one is going to argue against better protection, but the issue with making these pieces of security tech a compulsory part of the system requirements is the confusion around whether or not a PC has these capabilities. In some cases, newer machines do indeed have TPM on-board, it just isn’t enabled – leading to a frustrating situation where the owner of a modern device could be told it isn’t compatible with Windows 11. And while it might just be a case of switching TPM on, which isn’t difficult for a reasonably tech-savvy person, it could be very intimidating for a novice user (involving a trip to the BIOS, a scary place for the untrained eye). VBS or Virtualization-Based Security has run into further controversy, as well, given that while this isn’t an issue for upgraders from Windows 10, it will be enabled by default on new PCs that come with Windows 11 – and it causes slowdown with gaming frame rates. By all accounts, VBS can be a pretty serious headwind for frame rates, too; and again, this adds to the confusion around what’s going on with Windows 11 machines in general. Having a more secure PC is great, without a doubt, but there are costs here which have a potentially negative impact on the experience of some users adopting (or trying to adopt) Windows 11.

Autumn is here, leaves are falling and it is time to unpack your leaf blowers. But being a maker of computer hardware, Asus can produce different kinds of leaf blowers: graphics cards with blower type coolers. On Monday, the company introduced its Turbo GeForce RTX 3070 Ti board, one of the industry's first RTX 3070 Ti products with a turbine-based cooler. Designed to compete with the best graphics cards, the Asus Turbo GeForce RTX 3070 Ti carries Nvidia's GA104-400 graphics processor with 6144 CUDA cores clocked at up to 1800 MHz in OC boost mode as well as 8GB of 19 GT/s GDDR6X memory. The board has two eight-pin auxiliary power connectors as well as four display outputs (three DisplayPort 1.4a, one HDMI 2.1), just like many competing RTX 3070 Ti cards. From performance point of view, the Asus Turbo GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is similar to other cards based on the same GPU and equipped with 8GB of GDDR6X memory. The main selling point of the product is its blower cooling systems that allows you to use the board in small form-factor systems or install several Turbo GeForce RTX 3070 Ti cards into one PC. Blower type coolers have a controversial reputation. They were first introduced to the PC world with Nvidia's GeForce FX 5800 Ultra graphics card that did not impress with performance, but surprised gamers with how loud its turbine was. Over time, developers of GPUs learned how to properly implement blower coolers to ensure that they were not as loud as the FX 5800 Ultra. At the same time, they started to build cooling systems with two or three fans that provided a similar level of performance without producing excessive noise levels, so blower type coolers became rare beasts in the early 2010s. But if you need to cool down a graphics cards that dissipates around 300W in a small PC, a blower type cooler is just what the doctor ordered as it exhausts hot air outside of the case and therefore can do the job even when internal airflows are far from perfect. Furthermore, when multiple graphics cards are installed into one system, blowers are the only type of cooling systems that can provide sufficient cooling performance in tightly-packed environments with restricted airflow. To that end, Nvidia itself uses blowers with its datacenter and workstation-oriented products. This is reason why Nvidia does not really like when its partners install blowers on their consumer-oriented boards. It is close to impossible to find a GeForce RTX 3090 or a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti with a blower cooler, though Asus offers its Turbo GeForce RTX 3080 cards with a blower cooling system.

Microsoft's Windows 11 is a pretty operating system on almost any PC. But if you have a monitor that's capable of running in high dynamic range (HDR) mode, you'll get a brighter, more vivid experience--whether you're mousing around the desktop, watching your favorite HDR movies, or hunkered down with your favorite HDR game. So you'll want to make sure it's enabled. And if your monitor can display HDR, you'll want to make sure it's switched on as soon as you boot Windows 11, so that you get to experience the OS' vivid wallpapers and visual design improvements in the best possible light. If you upgrade to Windows 11 on an existing PC, download a Windows 11 ISO for a clean install, or buy a new laptop or desktop with it preloaded, the HDR setting may be enabled by default. That seemed to be the case when I first installed Windows 11 on my desktop using my LG C1 OLED TV. But then once I rebooted for the first time, I found that HDR had been disabled for some reason, lending Windows 11 a duller, flatter image. So whether you're looking to enable HDR on Windows 11 for the first time, or you had it enabled and it went away, we'll show you how to turn on HDR (or just make sure it's enabled) in Microsoft's latest OS below. Don't worry, it's a simple process that only takes a couple of steps. How to Enable HDR in Windows 11 And as is often the case with Windows, there are a couple ways to enable HDR in Windows 11, either via the desktop or the Start menu. 1. Right-click on the desktop and click Display settings. Avoiding the new Start menu for now, clicking Display settings from the desktop's right-click menu brings up a newly redesigned window for most of your monitor adjustment needs. 2. Flip the switch labeled Use HDR. One item down on the Windows 11 Display settings window, you should see a Use HDR item. To the right of the label is a toggle switch. If your monitor is capable of HDR, you'll be able to switch it and bathe in the glow of extra colors, contrast and brightness. If you'd like to play with Windows 11's HDR settings, rather than just turning HDR on, there's also a more advanced HDR menu. You can get to by clicking the Windows logo (or pressing the Windows key) to open the Start menu, typing HDR and pressing Enter. From this HDR settings window, you can enable or disable HDR, and change the HDR settings on all of your available HDR-capable monitors. You can also select which type of content you want to play in HDR, turn on Auto HDR (which attempts to make SDR games look more like HDR), and more.
