Xiaomi is reportedly going to launch a new smartphone in India in December with 120W fast charging support. The phone is expected to either be the Redmi Note 10 Pro+ or the Xiaomi 11T Pro. These phones have debuted in China and Europe respectively, and are now tipped to arrive in the Indian market. This comes just a few days after tipster Mukul Sharma tweeted that other OEMs like Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, and Realme are also looking to launch 100+W fast charging phones in the Indian market. 91Mobiles cites industry sources to report that the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ may launch in India in December. The phone will reportedly launch as the Redmi Note 11i Hypercharge in India. The report does not offer an exact launch date, but tips that it is expected to launch before January. The publication also spotted the Xiaomi 11T Pro on BIS certification site with the model number BM58. This hints that the Xiaomi 11T Pro may also launch in India soon, as this phone had also been unveiled in Europe with 120W fast charging support. The European Union consumes hundreds of millions of chips every year, but only a handful of them are made within the bloc. Although countries like Germany are encouraging chipmakers to build fabs there, it is unlikely that the EU will ever become completely independent from other countries as far as semiconductor supply is concerned. That is according to Margrethe Vestager, EU's Commissioner for Competition. Leading contract makers of semiconductors -- such as Intel, Samsung Foundry, and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. -- spend around $30 billion per year on capital expenditures and billions on developing new process technologies. Analysts believe that a country, or a group of countries, that wants to build a competitive semiconductor industry locally would need to spend over $150 billion over a period of five years on direct help, tax breaks, and incentives. However, the chances of success are extremely low. The EU official believes that such investments are impossible to make, which is why the bloc will continue to rely on internal and external chip supply. "The numbers I hear of, sort of, the upfront investments to be fully self-sufficient, that makes it not doable," said Vestager in an interview with CNBC. "What is important is that there is a different level of production capacity in Europe." It is noteworthy that Europe does not produce smartphones or PCs, two kinds of applications that need chips made using leading-edge fabrication technologies. Meanwhile, the EU produces cars, consumer electronics, and other things that do not need chips made using the latest nodes. Thus, the bloc wants to expand production of chips for these products to protect its economy. It also does not want supply chains to be disrupted by China or tensions with the U.S. and Germany. "You would need a lot of chips that come from legacy technology, a lot of the chips that goes into sort of internet of things, your fridge, your coffeemaker, that's legacy technology, and it will take quite some time because that sort of migrates into leading edge," said Vestager. As mentioned earlier, Samsung began giving the Galaxy Note experience to its users through the Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 (review) by adding support for the S Pen stylus. The report suggests that the Galaxy Note series has been confirmed to be excluded from the 2022 annual smartphone production plan. The report also mentions that the decision to stop producing the Galaxy Note series could have been caused in part by the decision to increase the production of Samsung's foldable smartphones. Samsung shipped nearly 12.7 million units of the Galaxy Note series in 2019, 9.7 million units in 2020, and produced 3.2 million units in 2021. The report states that Samsung's shipments target in 2022 for the Galaxy Z foldable series is nearly 13 million units, exceeding that of the Galaxy Note series.

Microsoft is working on a new update for Microsoft Teams designed to improve the guest user experience in its increasingly po[CENSORED]r online collaboration tool. For those unfamiliar, guest access allows businesses to provides access to teams, documents in channels, resources, chats and applications to those outside of their organization while still maintaining control over their corporate data. Guests may include partners, vendors, suppliers or consultants and anyone with a business account like Azure Active Directory or an account for an email service like Microsoft Outlook or Gmail can participate as a guest in Teams. Now tough, Microsoft will give guests even more control over their experience in Teams by allowing them to decline invitations, initiate leaving an organization and manage the guest tenant list. For instance, guest users will now be able to decline a pending guest invitation within the Teams app and when they click “Decline”, the Teams Tenant List will not show the tenant with the pending invitation in the Account Management tab. Guest users can now also initiate leaving an org and when they click on “Leave Org” they will be guided on how to leave a tenant from both Teams and the company's Azure Portal. Finally, guest users can now manage the guest tenant list in Teams by choosing to hide or show guest tenants in the menu of Microsoft's video conferencing software. Rostec, a Russian high-tech conglomerate, has introduced a USB flash drive with a built-in detonator that can destroy the NAND memory chips inside. The detonator can be activated manually, and the resulting destruction is completely safe for the user, the manufacturer says. Technodynamika, a Rostec company, has developed a USB drive that looks like a standard flash stick, but unlike regular drives, it not only contains a NAND memory chip and a USB-to-NAND bridge/controller, but also a battery and an electric detonator. When activated by a press of a button on the end of the device, the detonator 'burns down printed circuit board with a cumulative charge,' according to Rostec. "This message will self-destruct in five seconds," is probably the most familiar phrase from the Mission Impossible franchise. The phrase is usually accompanied by a cinematic sequence of self-destruction, which includes burning, dissolution in acid, or something else. But in the case of Rostec's drives, the case of the device remains intact, which guarantees the owners' safety. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen how Technodynamika intends to protect the destruction button from accidental activation. Modern drives that can quickly erase their contents usually encrypt the stored data with an AES-256 key, and they just destroy the key when it is time to retire the data. Unless you have a quantum computer with formidable performance, it is impossible to break a 256-bit key in any reasonable amount of time. Yet, for true paranoids who do not want to take any chances, Rostec's method is certainly the preferable one. "We have created a new device that is able to reliably protect information from unauthorized access: the impossibility of data recovery has been proven by the expertise," said Igor Nasenkov, chief executive of Technodynamika. "In the future, the device will be tested for safety during long-term storage, resistance to mechanical impact, and climatic factors. We are also going to work on various design options for the case." At present Rostec only has prototype drives, but it says that it can configure both the performance and capacity for custom orders.
