  6. Microsoft’s Bing chatbot is now more readily accessible for iOS users thanks to a new widget, plus the AI has been bolstered to perform more responsively when using voice input on an iPhone. Windows Central spotted that Microsoft has implemented a Bing Chat widget that can be added to the Home screen, allowing you to initiate a session with the chatbot with a simple tap. That’s a handy ability indeed for regular users of Bing AI on iOS devices. For instructions on how to add a widget to the iPhone Home screen, check here. In the Bing blog post announcing this new feature for iOS, Microsoft also tells us that it has made progress on another front for iPhone owners – namely better performance for the voice input button on the Bing mobile app (for iOS, and Android as well). When you tap the button it should now indicate that it’s listening instantly. Analysis: Catching up with Android The widget is a very useful touch in terms of convenience for regular users on the iPhone, and it brings the Bing Chat experience up to parity with the Android version (which already had this feature). Overall, Microsoft’s setting a pretty fast pace of development with its Bing AI, as considerable progress is being made on a weekly basis, with both the mobile and desktop incarnations of the chatbot. Regarding the latter, we’ve just seen that Microsoft has brought voice input to desktop PCs (previously this had been a mobile-only feature). The idea is to make for a more natural chatting experience with the Bing chatbot, allowing you to speak to the AI, and have it reply via spoken words, too.
  7. Applied Materials has filed a lawsuit against Chinese competitor Mattson, alleging a systematic theft of confidential trade secrets over a period of 14 months, reports DigiTimes. Applied asserts that Mattson, which was acquired by Beijing E-Town Dragon Semiconductor Industry Investment Center in 2016, undertook a coordinated campaign to poach 17 of its top engineers, a move which allegedly led to the illegal transfer of semiconductor designs. "Applied Materials vigorously safeguards its intellectual property from theft or unlawful use," a spokesperson for Applied Materials told Tom's Hardware. "We are taking legal action to ensure our intellectual property rights are protected. We cannot comment further on pending legal actions." According to the lawsuit, the engineers — including a senior department manager — hired away by Mattson had access to classified information including fab production technologies as well as Applied Material's roadmap. The lawsuit was launched in 2022, with the last departure said to have provided definitive proof of industrial espionage. Applied Materials contends that this theft could provide Mattson with a significant competitive edge in technological development. In response to the allegations, Mattson has maintained its innocence, insisting that the claims are baseless and will ultimately be disproven. Meanwhile, Canfeng Lai, a director at Mattson, admitted to sending documents from his work email to a personal account, but claims this was to keep a record of his achievements. Lai denies using any of the confidential information in his new role at Mattson or disclosing it to any third parties. The lawsuit details a number of suspicious activities surrounding the exodus of key employees, including that most wiped their company-issued devices and were evasive or dishonest about their new employer. Specific emphasis was placed on Lai's attempts to download sensitive information following his acceptance of a job offer from Mattson. Despite his assertions that his new role at Mattson is unrelated to the stolen technology, Applied Materials remains firm in its allegations of a carefully planned and executed act of industrial espionage.

  16. Windows 10 version 21H2 is no longer officially supported by Microsoft, so those still running that incarnation of the operating system need to act now. As of yesterday, the last security update was released for Windows 10 21H2, namely the June cumulative update. That’s the final bunch of fixes for vulnerabilities that’ll be provided to users still on 21H2, hence the need to upgrade in the next few weeks, before July’s round of patching happens (and you miss out if still on 21H2). In a release health update, Microsoft informed us: “On June 13, 2023, Home, Pro, Pro Education and Pro for Workstations editions of Windows 10, version 21H2 will reach end of servicing. The upcoming June 2023 security update, to be released on June 13, 2023, will be the last update available for this version.” At this point, PCs still running Windows 10 21H2 will have a forced update initiated before too long. Microsoft explained: “Windows Update will automatically initiate a feature update for Windows 10 consumer devices and non-managed business devices that are at, or within several months of reaching end of servicing.” Analysis: Enforced upgrades are a necessary evil That forced update will push users to Windows 10 version 22H2, but of course, that has to happen. When the rug is pulled for support on an older version of Windows, and security updates are no longer provided, you shouldn’t keep the OS on your PC (unless you’re not going to connect to the internet at all). Staying online with vulnerabilities present on your system (which is bound to happen in time, as new security flaws are discovered and not patched) is a foolish thing to do. So, your choice is an upgrade to 22H2, or as Microsoft would prefer, you could make the leap to Windows 11. If, of course, your PC is capable of running Windows 11, which it may not be (if you have an older CPU, or your computer lacks TPM support – there may be ways around these problems, but such hardware upgrades can be fiddly, naturally). As you may be aware, Windows 10 will not get any new features going forward – Microsoft is only supplying security updates now (and maybe the odd very minor feature tweak here and there, but nothing of any substance). All of this is part of Microsoft’s not-so-subtle pushing to get you to upgrade to Windows 11, an OS which has struggled with its pace of adoption compared to Windows 10.

These users also have the option to further upgrade to the company's latest Xiaomi 13 Pro by paying an extra fee of Rs. 30,000. 25. Minisforum is well known for its inexpensive ultra-compact and quite capable desktops, but its ambitions do not end there. From time to time the company introduces gaming PCs and this week it introduced its Neptune NH2673 system that features a 10-core CPU and a discrete Intel Arc A730M graphics processor. The Minisforum Neptune NH2673 is based on Intel's Core i7-12650H processor (6P, 4E, 16T, up to 4.70 GHz, 24 MB, 45W) that is mated with up to 64 GB of DDR4 memory using two SO-DIMM modules and an M.2-2280 SSD with a PCIe 4.0 interface and a capacity of 2TB. For those who need more storage, the NH2673 has a 2.5-inch bay for a higher-capacity drive. To ensure consistently high performance in gaming workloads, the Neptune NH2673 comes with a rather sophisticated cooling system featuring four fans. One of the PC's main selling points is perhaps its discrete Intel Arc A730M GPU (24 Xe cores, 3072 stream processors, up to 95W) with 6 GB of GDDR6 memory that promises to provide performance that by far outpaces all integrated GPUs that exist today. This graphics processor comes on an MXM board, so it will be possible to upgrade it later, assuming that the new module is compatible with the system. Meanwhile, Minisforum does not directly say that the MXM module is upgradeable and only mentions DRAM and storage upgradeability. That extra gaming performance and potential upgradeability of the graphics subsystem should justify the dimensions of the system, which seems to be larger than what you typically expect from a Minisforum PC. We are certainly not looking at a tower here, but the Neptune NH2673 is probably comparable to other compact gaming systems, such as Falcon Northwest's Tiki. When it comes to connectivity, the Neptune NH2673 has everything that one comes to expect from a modern midrange gaming PC, including a Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth module, a 2.5 GbE port, three USB 3.2 Type-C ports (see their configurations in the specifications table and the picture), two HDMI outputs, five USB Type-A ports, and audio in/out connectors. As far as price is concerned, Minisforum's Neptune NH2673 can be obtained for $649 with 16 GB of memory and a 512GB SSD, a configuration with 32 GB of DDR4 and a 1TB drive costs $709, whereas the range-topping model with 64 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage is priced at $799.
