  1. Resident Evil 4 “Separate Ways” DLC has arrived, letting players see what Ada Wong was busying herself with during the game’s main story (you can check out Wccftech’s impressions of the expansion here). Of course, as always with Resident Evil, Separate Ways contains its fair share of puzzles, secrets, and unique mechanics to unravel. RE4 Separate Ways Chapter 4 slows things down a bit and presents the player with more puzzles, as you’re tasked with finding specific ingredients in order to make a suppressant for the Plagas infection. The first of these ingredients is Red Ink, which requires you solve a pair of puzzles. You won’t be able to progress through the DLC until you solve this puzzle, but thankfully, we have the solution for you. Scroll on down for the answer…Step 1 – Opening the Stone Tablet Door LockShortly into Chapter 4, after saving Luis from a fire, you’ll be set loose in the castle to collect items for the suppressor, including the red ink. At the first junction you come to, head right. You’ll come to a locked door with a pair of “lithographic stones” in it. You have to place the right stones in the slots, but you only have two of them at the moment! You need two more. The idea here is to match the stones to the markings on the door. Some of these are obvious, but others are partly worn off, only showing a vague shape or color, but it’s still enough to suss out what goes where. Also, be aware that your can flip the stones over, as each one has different images on the front and back. The image above shows how to arrange the tiles. Starting at the top and going clockwise – red fan square, black umbrella square, black dress hexagon, and red bonnet hexagon. Step 2 – Shooting the ShieldsResident Evil 4 Separate Ways is available now on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. 2. The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) has released the open standard update for the connected home Matter 1.2 , adding support for connecting nine new home appliance devices ranging from washing machines and refrigerators to fans and air purifiers. Matter is an open standard for the connected home with the aim of building an ecosystem that allows the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) products from different manufacturers with the aim of avoiding user confusion due to the use of different ecosystems. , like those of Google, Amazon or Apple. Thus, the CSA launched Matter 1.0 in October 2022, which offers compatibility between a wide variety of products, including lighting devices, electricity, security sensors or door locks. Subsequently, Matter 1.1 was implemented, with which the CSA provided improvements and added new requirements for certified products , such as the need for them to offer over-the-air software updates. Now, the CSA has made Matter 1.2 available to device and platform manufacturers , which adds the ability to connect nine new home appliance devices such as robot vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, and fans, among others. In this way, companies can incorporate the updated standard into their products to include new types of devices , revisions and additions to existing categories, major improvements to the specification, and certification and testing tools , as shared by the CSA in a statement . on their website. Specifically, Matter 1.2 adds support for nine new device types , with new layers of " interoperability, simplicity, reliability and security ", making it possible to unlock new use cases and features. The new devices are, on the one hand, refrigerators , including related appliances such as freezers and refrigerators for drinks such as wine. In this case, Matter will allow you to configure and control basic options such as temperature. Following this line, air conditioners for rooms have also been included . Although thermostats were already included in Matter 1.0, these devices are now also included with the possibility of controlling the temperature and fan mode.Likewise, dishwashers have been added , along with features such as remote start capability and notifications about the washing process , operational errors, as well as information of interest, for example, the temperature at which it is operating. And the washing machines, which will also allow you to show progress notifications. Even in a future version, the company has assured that Matter will be implemented for dryers. That is, as the CSA has explained, semantic labels can be used to represent the location and function of the buttons on a device. Regarding the SDK , the CSA has detailed that it is now available for new platforms . Thus, developers will be able to work with the standard to create new products that are compatible . Additionally, improvements have also been made to the Matter Test Harness testing program , which is now available through open source. With all this, the CSA has stressed that the Matter 1.2 certification program is now open and that, therefore, members will be able to add these improvements and new types of devices to the market "at the end of this year" and from 2024... https://www.europapress.es/portaltic/software/noticia-estandar-abierto-matter-12-incluye-soporte-conectar-nuevos-electrodomesticos-lavadoras-ventiladores-20231024125503.html
  3. AMD's Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX is officially the fastest workstation CPU to date as revealed in the latest performance benchmarks. AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX 96-Core CPU Crushes Intel Xeon, Leads In All Performance Metrics & Scores Big In Cinebench Benchmark The AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX CPU is the flagship chip within the new Threadripper 7000 family. The chip is outfitted with 96 cores based on the Zen 4 core architecture, 192 threads, and clock speeds set at 2.50 GHz (Base) / 5.15 GHz (Boost). The chip offers 384 MB of cache and up to 128 PCIe Gen 5.0 lanes, making it an insane chip for workstation users. With such big specs also comes a big price and the 7995WX has a retail MSRP of $9999 US.Soon after yesterday's reveal, PCMag published its early performance preview of the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX CPU featured within Dell's Precision 7875 which comes loaded with a 512 GB array of DDR5 ECC memory, dual NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada GPUs, and Windows 11 Enterprise OS. The outlet pitted the 7995WX against the Xeon W9-3495X, Threadripper PRO 5995WX, and the Ryzen 9 7950X.The benchmark which showed the most notable improvement was Cinebench R23 where the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX CPU turned out to be 56% faster than the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5995WX and 81% faster than the Xeon W9-3495X. The CPU was also able to complete a render within Blender with twice the time savings compared to the other two chips. In addition to the stock performance figures, Videocardz was also able to grab a screenshot of an overclocked performance figure from a press event showcasing the capabilities of the Threadripper CPUs and the chip posted an insane performance number of 148,719 points in the same test. The CPU was overclocked to 4.4 GHz across all of its 96 cores and the power consumption hit a peak of 620W.It is also reported that like the standard DIY chips, the PRO CPUs also fully support OC within the Ryzen Master software utility. Liquid Nitrogen was used to sustain these high clock speeds as standard cooling would have had no chance of keeping all those cores fed with 4 GHz+ clocks with a TDP of over 600W. HWBOT Cinebench R23 World Record Rankings : Comparing the overclocked results to other chips, you can note that the 7995WX is on par with two EPYC 9654 chips, each featuring 96 cores and 192 threads. 5. Microsoft has revealed the titles they’ll be adding to Xbox Game Pass on PC and consoles in late October, and while it isn’t quite as meaty as the lineup earlier this month (which included Forza Motorsport) it’s still fairly substantial bundle of games. Subscribers can look forward to the Dead Space remake, Like a Dragon: Ishin, Cities: Skylines II, and a number of other Day 1 releases including Dontnod’s Jusant and Headbangers: Rhythm Royale. Here are your headliner Game Pass titles for the next couple of weeks: Cities: Skylines II (PC) – October 24 "Raise a city from the ground up and transform it into a thriving metropolis in the long-awaited sequel to the smash-hit city-building game. With deep simulation, a living economy, and more realistic features than ever before, Cities: Skylines II offers world-building without limits." Dead Space (PC and Xbox Series X|S) EA Play – October 26 From Wccftech’s review – “The new Dead Space is a mostly-successful revival of a survival horror landmark, offering atmospheric new visuals and a series of precision updates to combat, level layouts, and the game’s scary bits that ought to surprise and excite veteran engineers. That said, there was room for Motive Studio to push further, as some game elements still feel a bit dated. Dead Space should satisfy long-suffering fans of the franchise, but compared to the latest, greatest AAA horror competition, it’s no longer a cut above.” These games will also be available in late October: Like A Dragon: Ishin! 9. Google has launched a Pixel Buds progressive web application (PWA) optimized for Chromebook computers that makes it possible to configure and manage the controls of the headphones , as allowed by the 'app' for mobile devices.Until now, Google earbuds could only be configured with the Google Pixel Buds Android app , via a mobile device running Android 6.0 or later. In this way, users can check the battery levels of the headphones and the case , as well as manage sound functions , locate the device or configure the Google Assistant. However, now Google has launched a Google Pixel Buds progressive web app for Chromebook computers , allowing users to manage the earbuds' settings directly through the computer, just as they can from their smartphone.Specifically, as Chrome Unboxed has learned , the PWA is available through the Play Store , but when installed through the Google application store it does not work correctly , but instead displays a 404 error. In this sense, the same medium tried to install it from the address mypixelbuds.google.com, which the application was trying to access when downloaded. In this case, the Google Pixel Buds PWA did download successfully and started working without any problems. Likewise, as Google points out on the download website, the Pixel Buds PWA has been optimized for ChromeOs and, therefore, "is only fully compatible with this operating system." Thus, to download the application from the web address, you must press the icon with three dots located in the upper right corner of the screen and then click on the Install Pixel Buds option. In this way, users have access to the different headphone settings from their computer, in the same way they appear in the mobile application. In addition, it also allows you to link them directly from the computer and use their main functions , such as activating and deactivating noise cancellation or managing the equalizer. However, some more specific features such as spatial audio control are not available... https://www.europapress.es/portaltic/software/noticia-google-lanza-aplicacion-web-gestionar-auriculares-pixel-buds-compatible-ordenadores-chromebook-20231013133651.html
  10. Intel will soon be offering its 14th Gen Refreshed Raptor Lake-HX in brand new laptops aiming at the high-performance gaming segment. Intel 14th Gen Raptor Lake-HX Refresh CPUs To Further Boost High-End Gaming Laptops Based on a post by Momomo_US, it looks like Intel is preparing at least three 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs for the laptop segment. These CPUs will be targeted at high-end gaming solutions & certain SKUs will come with a spec boost, delivering more performance uplifts than 13th Gen chips. The following chips have so far been leaked for Intel's 14th Gen Raptor Lake-HX refresh family:The Intel Core i9-14900HX will be the flagship offering which would offer the same 8 P-Core and 16 E-Core configuration as the existing Core i9-13900HX chip. This will be followed by the Intel Core i7-14700HX which will feature 8 P-Cores but a 12 E-Core configuration which is 50% more E-Cores vs the Core i7-13700HX and should provide a decent performance uplift. The Intel Core i7-14650HX is also mentioned to utilize an 8 P-Core and 8 E-Core die which will be an upgrade over the 13650HX, a 6 P-Core and 8 E-Core configuration. Lastly, we have the Core i5-14500HX which will utilize the 6 P-Core and 8 E-Core, the same as the 13500HX. Besides the core spec bump on certain SKUs, all 14th-Gen Raptor Lake-HX Refresh CPUs will offer a clock speed bump. The Raptor Lake-S Refresh chips feature a +200 MHz boost so we might see a similar clock bump in the laptop refresh. Besides that, the upgraded configs will also carry more cache that can help in gaming applications. The CPUs will also come with new designs that support the higher TDPs and thermal envelopes of these chips. It looks like 14th-generation laptops will mostly be using NVIDIA's RTX 40 GPUs since those are the most premium graphics solutions one can find on the mobility platforms.Intel's Raptor Lake-HX 14th Gen Refresh CPU family is currently scheduled for an early 2024 or CES launch. We can expect loads of laptops after the chips are officially introduced. The follow-up to the 14th Gen family will come later in early 2025 with the Arrow Lake-HX chips which we detailed here recently. 11. Indi Gregory was born with mitochondrial disease By Samantha Noble BBC News Doctors can withdraw life support from a critically ill seven-month-old baby, a High Court judge has ruled. Indi Gregory has mitochondrial disease and medics at Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre have said they can do no more for her. Their High Court application to end treatment had been opposed by Indi's parents, from Ilkeston in Derbyshire. Mr Justice Peel ruled "with a heavy heart" that doctors can stop life support. Mitochondrial disease prevents cells in the body producing energy and the NHS says the condition is incurable.Indi's father Dean Gregory, 37, from Ilkeston in Derbyshire, has responded to the ruling In his judgment, Mr Justice Peel said the devotion of the family to Indi was "palpable" and their pain "almost unimaginable". He said: "Nobody could fail to be moved by their concern for their child, and their belief in Indi's resilience, courage and fortitude." However, he said while the wishes of the family were a powerful consideration, the medical evidence was "unanimous and clear". Presentational grey line The judge's concluding comments in full "With a heavy heart, I have come to the conclusion that the burdens of invasive treatment outweigh the benefits. "In short, the significant pain experienced by this lovely little girl is not justified when set against an incurable set of conditions, a very short life span, no prospect of recovery and, at best, minimal engagement with the world around her. "In my judgment, having weighed up all the competing considerations, her best interests are served by permitting [Nottingham University Hospitals NHS] Trust to withdraw invasive treatment in accordance with the care plan presented. "That plan envisages weaning her off intubation within one week, and facilitating the use of a bag mask for up to a week after extubation. "I am quite sure that the Trust will, as they say, do everything they can to care for Indi with compassion, providing her with treatment to alleviate pain, and making her as comfortable as possible. "That can take place at home or at a hospice, as the parents may elect. "I therefore grant the application, and make the declarations sought, with sorrow but on the basis that it is clearly in Indi's best interests to do so. "I know that this will come as a heavy blow to the parents. I know that they love Indi dearly and want the very best for her. I sincerely hope that they will be able to spend as much time as possible with Indi." Presentational grey line Hearings have taken place behind closed doors but journalists have been allowed to attend and name Indi, her parents, and the hospital. A doctor working at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NUH) had told the judge Indi was dying from the illness. But her parents, Dean Gregory and Claire Staniforth, argued their daughter had "proved everyone wrong" and "needed more time". Following the ruling, Mr Gregory said: "We are devastated by the judge's ruling and will be appealing. "The doctors painted a terribly bleak and negative picture of Indi's condition during court proceedings. "Indi can definitely experience happiness. She cries like a normal baby. "We know she is disabled, but you don't just let disabled people die. We just want to give her a chance. "I and we as a family are prepared to do whatever it takes to fight for the life of our beautiful daughter, Indi." Dr Keith Girling, medical director at NUH, said the hearing was "challenging for everyone involved and our thoughts are with Indi and her family at this difficult time". He added: "Our priority will remain to provide Indi specialised care appropriate to her condition, and support her family in every way possible.".. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-derbyshire-67099053
  12. Camera traps recorded the wildcats as they took their first steps into the wild Wildcats released in the UK for the first time are thriving with only one death, say conservationists. Nineteen were released into the wild in the summer at Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands. The Saving Wildcats project is tracking the cats using GPS-radio collars. The project is a collaboration between the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), NatureScot, Forestry and Land Scotland, and the Cairngorms National Park Authority. Another 13 kittens have been bred for the scheme, which has partners in Sweden and Andalucia, Spain.Wildcat kittens bring hope for endangered species Scottish wildcat on brink of extinction - research The new kittens, born at RZSS's Highland Wildlife Park, will be released into the wild next summer once they are aged six to eight months. The endangered wildcats live in grassland and woodland where they hunt for mice and voles. Winter is expected to be hard for them due to a lack of prey and the harsh weather. The endangered wildcats are living in grassland and woodland Helen Senn, RZSS head of science and conservation programmes, said the UK's first ever release of wildcats was "a success so far". She said: "Life in the wild is full of risks and while most of the wildcats are currently doing well, it would be highly unusual for all to survive the first year. "The field team were alerted to a potential mortality through movement data recorded by GPS collars. "A post-mortem examination carried out by our expert veterinary team revealed the cat sadly died of peritonitis, an infection. "Further releases and many more years of conservation action will be required to increase the likelihood of saving this iconic species in Scotland." The Saving Wildcats team is working closely with landowners who now have wildcats on their land. The wildcats and their den sites are protected by law and it is an offence to deliberately or recklessly disturb one. Highland visitors who come across them are urged not to share the location... https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-67100886
  13. Police say the situation is now under control By Laurence Peter BBC News The French prime minister has put the country on its highest state of counter-terrorism alert after an assailant fatally stabbed a teacher and seriously wounded two others. Witnesses say the knifeman shouted "Allahu Akbar", or "God is greatest", during the attack at a school in Arras, northern France. He is now in custody. The "attack emergency" level has been used in previous counter-terror cases. The alert can trigger extra security deployments and public warnings. The attack at Gambetta high school in the northern city came amid rising tensions in France's sizeable Muslim and Jewish communities, due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said there was "no doubt" a link between the Arras attack and the Israel-Hamas conflict. The attacker, named as 20-year-old Russian national Mohamed Mogouchkov, is of Chechen origin and known to the security services for his involvement with Islamist extremism, according to police. As a former pupil at the school, he alarmed teachers with his extremist language, reports say. Police also arrested several members of the assailant's family - a brother aged 17, his mother, a sister and an uncle. Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne took the urgent step after a security meeting with President Emmanuel Macron.Police guarding the school in Arras after Friday's attack Earlier Mr Macron visited the school and condemned the "barbarity of Islamist terrorism". He called on French people to stay "united" in the face of the attack, to "not give in to terror or let anything divide us". The man killed was a French language teacher, stabbed in the throat and chest. Another teacher and a security guard were seriously wounded and are now in hospital. The security guard is critically ill, with multiple knife wounds. A third person - a cleaner - was less seriously hurt in the attack, and no children were hurt. Mr Macron said the teacher who died had "come forward to protect others and without doubt saved many lives". Martin Dousseau, a teacher who witnessed the attack, told AFP news agency of "a moment of panic during break-time, when the schoolchildren found themselves face-to-face with the armed man". "He attacked canteen staff. I wanted to go down to intervene, he turned to me, chased me and asked me if I was a history and geography teacher," Mr Dousseau said. "We barricaded ourselves in, then the police arrived and immobilised him." The attack comes nearly three years since the murder and beheading of another teacher, Samuel Paty, at his school outside Paris. The perpetrator of that attack, 18-year-old Abdullakh Anzorov, a Russian Muslim refugee, was shot dead by police shortly afterwards. France has been hit by a series of Islamist attacks in recent years. The worst was in November 2015 when gunmen and suicide bombers attacked entertainment venues and cafes in Paris, killing 130 people. That attack was claimed by the Islamic State (IS) group... https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-67107391

Compared to the mainstream H100s, NVIDIA's H800 comes with degraded specifications, with slacks made within the chip-to-chip interconnect speed. While ZTE themselves haven't disclosed the specific performance data for their flagship GPU server, it is disclosed that the R6900 G5 will pack eight H800 NVLINK GPU modules, totaling up to 297 TFLOPs of FP64 compute power. ZTE hasn't disclosed what model of Intel's Xeon Scalable processor is being featured, but it will indeed be in the higher-end range. Speaking of networking capabilities, the server features RoCE networking between individual nodes, giving 4.8 TB/s of non-blocking bandwidth. On paper, the server looks like a great addition to ZTE's arsenal for tech development, and will definitely aid in catering to the high computing demand from the industry. With such high-end components packed together, having an adequate cooling solution is a huge task to fulfill, and by the looks of it, ZTE has been successful. It is said that the R6900 G5 GPU server features fan adjustment capabilities as well as a "dual-cooling" liquid technology, which will provide optimal heat dissipation for both the CPU and GPU inside. Moreover, the server has the capability to reduce the power consumption by a whopping 1000W as well, demonstrating a power-effective design.Details such as the cost of the server machine and the overall performance figures are missing for now, however, we will try to dig them out, since they will indeed be something to look at. https://wccftech.com/zte-unveils-high-end-server-featuring-cut-down-nvidia-h800-ai-gpus-for-china/
