  1. Built by go-karting's founding father, Duffy Livingstone, this pieced-together hot rod has an impressive history. Brock Yates's book, The Hot Rod: Resurrection of a Legend, follows his purchase and subsequent Pebble Beach win with the Eliminator. It's currently up for auction on Bring a Trailer, with bidding open through May 1, 2023. Let's connect Formula One, land speed racing, and the Pebble Beach Concours all in one car. If you expected that car to be a cobbled-together Ford Model A frame wearing bruised Model T bodywork and housing a patched-up small-block Chevy V-8 engine, well then, you've already read Brock Yates's book The Hot Rod: Resurrection of a Legend. Before we get into the hardware of this special Bring a Trailer—which, like Car and Driver, is a part of the Hearst Autos group—auction, let's introduce the main characters. Despite being listed as the "Ex-Brock Yates Ford 'Eliminator'", this historic hot rod was the work of a Pasadena, California-based racer named Duffy Livingstone. Livingstone is most famous as the man who gave go-karting its name. He also launched it as a mainstream activity in the late '50s. Livingstone didn't invent the go-kart, that's credited to Art Ingles at the Kurtis Kraft race shop, but Livingstone locked in its moniker when he launched Go Kart Manufacturing. Before that, Livingstone was racing a sort of full-scale go-kart in the form of a Ford T-bucket body mounted on a Model A frame. In 1950, Livingstone purchased the pile of Ford from another racer, Jay Chamberlin. (Chamberlin would go on to leave his own mark on automotive history by importing Lotus cars into California, among other things.) If you're getting the sense that the Eliminator has touched greatness all along its journey, you're correct. And we're just at the start. Chamberlin lost interest in the car after a rule change occurred in the class he was building it to race in, so he passed the old Ford over to Livingstone, who cobbled it up as a jalopy sports car, initially powered by a flathead, which was later replaced by a bored-out Chevy small-block. Livingstone wasn't alone in road racing a hot rod. Max Balchowsky's Buick-powered "Old Yeller" cars were formidable competitors against the snooty sports car set right around the same time Livingstone was building and campaigning the Eliminator. Livingstone raced in SCCA and USAC competitions, often pitting the Eliminator against open-wheel single-seaters or fields of exotic Ferraris and Porsches. The fans and other racers often scoffed, but ol' Duff was in on the joke. He often entered the car as a "Tihsepa Mk II" or the "Tihsepa Eliminator." Take a second to say that to yourself backward, and you'll also be in on the giggle. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a43725435/ford-eliminator-hot-rod-auction/
  2. Nottingham Forest were stunned as a late Brentford fightback denied them precious points in their fight for Premier League survival. Brazilian midfielder Danilo marked his 22nd birthday by putting Forest ahead just before half-time, reacting quickest to steer home Morgan Gibbs-White's shot which deflected into his path. Brentford had plenty of the ball but created few clear chances until Ivan Toney's 82nd-minute free-kick went in off Forest keeper Keylor Navas. With Forest hanging on and only 10 men on the pitch after Danilo went off injured, substitute Josh Dasilva scored the 94th-minute winner which was only confirmed after a long VAR check. After beating Brighton at home on Wednesday, Forest looked well on course for a second win in four days and earn a rare away victory. But, with all their nearest rivals yet to play this weekend, they remain in 17th place and just a point ahead of third-bottom Leicester. "It is a sense of massive disappointment - one that got away," said Forest manager Steve Cooper. "It was always going to be a tiring week with three games and there were a lot of tired legs on the pitch. It was a game of fine margins. "We felt in a comfortable position - Brentford weren't creating a lot of chances. The two goals we've given away are really disappointing and it has cost us the game. "No problem of the effort of the players but you've got to do everything right until the end of the game." Reaction to Saturday's Premier League games How did you rate Brentford's performance? Have your say here What did you make of Forest's display? Send us your views here Forest denied breathing space from bottom three With none of the other sides in the tightly packed bottom five playing on Saturday, Forest had an excellent opportunity to put pressure on their rivals. For a long period after Danilo's opening goal, and with Brentford providing little threat, it looked as though Cooper's team were going to move four points clear of the bottom three. Forest's survival hopes were given a significant boost when they fought back to beat a Brighton side chasing European qualification at a raucous City Ground on Wednesday. Lifting them out of the relegation zone, the win took Forest to 30 points - with 24 of those earned in front of their own fans. The challenge has been transferring their ability to pick up points at home into doing the same on the road. But, after defending well for most of the match, they were denied even a point at a time when each one is so precious. Forest had to wait 23 years for their return to the Premier League and are hoping to avoid an immediate exit. Cooper's task after this dispiriting defeat is to rally his players again, knowing their next game at home against Southampton on 8 May is likely to have a huge impact on their survival hopes. Brentford still 'giving themselves chance' of European football Brentford have continued to defy the odds and expectations in their second season in the Premier League, having already surpassed their points tally in an impressive debut campaign. Anything less than a win against Forest would have all but ended the Bees' push for Europe. While it still appears they have too much ground to make up, with the sides above them having played fewer games, Brentford maintained the pressure on the likes of Brighton, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Tottenham. "We didn't play our best. Sometimes you have to find a way to win and we did it ugly today," said Bees skipper Toney. "I think Forest are a great side, dug in well and if they stick at it they give themselves a chance of staying in the league. "It's still possible [for European football] but we have to focus on ourselves and give ourselves a chance." https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/65357222

Butter is used in the preparation of most food recipes, from sauces to baked goods and desserts. It adds a distinctive flavor and rich taste. It also plays a role in obtaining a crisp, soft and smooth texture for some recipes. We can make butter at home, but we often look for alternatives to this ingredient. Here are the most important types of butter, the reasons for avoiding its use and the most prominent alternatives: The most important type of butter salted butter. Unsalted butter. Organic butter. Whipped butter. Spread butter. Fat-free butter. fermented butter. flavored butter. butter butter © Provided by Atyab Tabkha Reasons to avoid using butter There are many reasons why we use butter substitutes, here are some of them: Milk allergy or lactose intolerance. Follow a vegetarian diet. Follow a diet to reduce weight. Suffering from heart problems or high cholesterol in the body. Strange alternatives to butter... including avocado! Apple sauce It is often used as a substitute for oil in recipes, but it can also be used as a substitute for butter and works best with cake recipes. avocado The use of avocado contributes to reducing calories and adding a soft taste to baked goods, and it is an ideal substitute for butter. Yogurt and oil We can use a mixture of equal amount of yogurt and oil equivalent to the same amount of butter in the recipe, so it will be a good substitute for butter in cake recipes. Ghee Some people use ghee as a substitute for butter in cooking, as it contains less casein and lactose, which makes it more suitable for those who suffer from milk and lactose intolerance, but it contains a higher percentage of saturated fats, so we must use it carefully. Nut butter Peanut and almond butter, for example, is similar in texture to butter, it remains somewhat cohesive at room temperature, and it also adds the taste of nuts in sweets, and we can use it in cookies, biscuits and cake recipes in particular. Margarine Margarine is one of the most po[CENSORED]r alternatives to butter, and it contains fewer calories and saturated fats, but it also contains unsaturated and unhealthy fats, so it is recommended to use it in small quantities. oils Oils are a good substitute for butter in cooking. The energy ministry said cooking gas prices, which were raised for the first time in 12 years, would rise from 7,750 dinars to 8,800 dinars. The ministry said in a statement that the price of petrol will rise on Tuesday by 3 percent from 2,330 dinars per liter to 2,400 dinars. Tunisia, which is facing its worst financial crisis, is trying to agree a new financing program with the International Monetary Fund. 5. Synopsis While markets are volatile, power utilities companies are making a comeback on the buy list of analysts . The companies in the list are covered by a minimum count of 3 and maximum by 21 analysts. The reason for having a minimum count of analysts for a particular sector is because higher coverage by analysts indicates higher institutional interest in individual stock. The list is based on upside estimated by the analysts, with the highest potential stock coming on the top of the list. Power sector stocks normally don't attract much attention. What gets ignored is the fact that their income streams are very stable. They don't normally witness any sharp spike in profit but also don't witness any sharp decline. Will their bottomline see another phase where they move up and stabilize? There is good enough reason to tilt in the favour of “yes”. After facing many headwinds, the power sector has started to see some respite. Some Source

  9. Google Pixel Fold and Pixel 7a smartphones are expected to make their debut soon. There have been multiple reports and leaks surrounding these handsets over the past few months. The Pixel Fold, expected to debut as the first ever foldable smartphone from Google, is a highly-anticipated handset. New reports have leaked the probable launch date of the Google Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold. The purported price of these phones and the colour options they are expected to arrive in have also been leaked online.According to a 9to5Google report citing retail sources, the Google Pixel 7a is expected to be priced at $499 (roughly Rs. 40,900) in the US. This price is $50 (roughly Rs. 4,100) more than its predecessor, the Google Pixel 6a, which was launched last year. The jump in price can reportedly be attributed to the upgrade in quality of raw materials used. The primary camera of the Pixel 7a is likely to feature a 64-megapixel sensor, accompanied by a 13-megapixel ultrawide lens. The phone is also expected to be powered by a Tensor G2 chipset which has also been used in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro series of smartphones. The upcoming Pixel handset is also expected to sport a new 90Hz display, and wireless charging support.Previous reports suggested that the Google Pixel Fold will cost around $1,300 and $1,500 (roughly Rs. 1,07,400 to Rs. 1,23,935 ). These prices are considerably more expensive than the other models in the Pixel lineup. The upcoming Pixel Fold is still expected to be cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 which is priced at $1,799.99 (roughly Rs. 1,42,700) in the US. A tweet by tipster Jon Prosser (Twitter: @jon_prosser) suggests that the Google Pixel 7a will likely launch in Charcoal, Snow, Sea (light blue), and Coral colour options — the last colourway will only be available at Google Store, according to Prosser. The phone will be launched on May 10 during the Google I/O event and will also reportedly be immediately available for purchase in the US. In another post on Twitter, Prosser shared design renders of the upcoming Pixel Fold handset and claims that Google's first foldable smartphone is also likely to be launched on May 10 alongside the Pixel 7a at the Google I/O event. The tipster claims that the phone will be available for purchase in the US staring June 27, with pre-orders from Google Store beginning on May 10, and pre-orders from other partners or carriers starting May 30. The phone is seen in two colour options — black and white — in the renders shared by the tipster. https://www.gadgets360.com/mobiles/news/google-pixel-7a-fold-price-leak-launch-date-may-10-expected-3957918
  10. Rumors of iOS 17 allowing app sideloading continue to rumble on, but in the latest round of unconfirmed chatter there's a caveat: the feature will apparently only be available in Europe, and won't be coming to the US. This comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, a reliable authority on advance Apple information. Speaking to the MacRumors(opens in new tab) podcast, Gurman said that he thinks app sideloading will be only available in Europe. If you've not got a clue what we're talking about, app sideloading means installing apps from outside of an official app store – as you can on macOS, for example. It's also fairly easy to do on Android, but Apple has long cited security and reliability concerns for wanting iPhones and iPads to be restricted to approved apps only. Extra fees This Europe exclusivity makes sense: Apple doesn't really want to add sideloading, and is only doing so because of regulatory pressure from the EU. Gurman says Apple won't "shoot themselves in the foot" by adding it everywhere, and will probably introduce the feature quietly and without fanfare. In addition, developers may have to pay extra if they want their apps to be available outside of the iOS App Store, Gurman says. Don't be surprised if the feature is mentioned at the bottom of a press release rather than in the WWDC 2023 keynote. The Worldwide Developers Conference starts on June 5, and will be a showcase for all the software Apple is pushing out this year, including iOS 17. Gurman also adds that upgrades are expected for the Wallet and Find My apps. Analysis: Apple bows to EU pressure If you're wondering what app sideloading has to do with EU lawmakers, the previous history here is that Apple has been coming under pressure from regulators in Europe over the issue of the App Store being perceived as a monopoly run by Apple. The EU's Digital Markets Act coming into force this summer aims to limit the control of digital "gatekeepers". The EU would argue that Apple can't force iOS apps to go through its own App Store, whereas Apple would say that it needs that control to keep users safe and to maintain a quality experience. Apple has previously had to fight a costly legal battle against Epic over the issue of controlling in-app payments, and it will want to avoid another protracted case – which is why it now seems likely that iOS and iPadOS are going to allow apps to be installed from other sources, even if it is only in Europe. At the same time, the iPhone 15 is expected to make the switch from Lighting to USB-C. Again, this is in response to EU regulations – though it's much easier to make region-specific changes to software than to hardware, so the USB-C iPhone is going to appear in all of Apple's markets. https://www.techradar.com/news/ios-17-app-sideloading-might-only-be-available-in-europe
  11. Nvidia's recently-launched GeForce RTX 4070 isn't just one of the best graphics cards; it's also one of Amazon's best-selling graphics cards(opens in new tab). The AD104-based graphics card currently sits at the 7th position on the list. The GeForce RTX 4070 is a great graphics card for 1440p (2560 x 1440) gaming. It's a worthy successor to last generation's GeForce RTX 3070. The only qualm many have with the GeForce RTX 4070 is the price tag. At $599, you can hardly consider the graphics card a mainstream option for gamers. However, some custom GeForce RTX 4070 models received price adjustments just a day after the launch, bringing them back to $599. Despite all the controversy with the pricing, the GeForce RTX 4070 is in 7th place on Amazon's list. The graphics card is behind po[CENSORED]r models, including the GeForce RTX 3060, RTX 3060 Ti, and Radeon RX 6600. Even the more expensive GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is two positions ahead of the GeForce RTX 4070. So while the GeForce RTX 4070 is selling ok on Amazon, the graphics card isn't po[CENSORED]r at other retailers, like Newegg, where it doesn't appear on the front page of the best-selling list. What came as a big surprise is the Radeon RX 580 2048SP, a rebranded Radeon RX 570 8GB for the Chinese market. Despite being a graphics card from 2018, the Radeon RX 580 2048SP sits tightly behind the GeForce RTX 4070. Sales are obviously different for every retailer, especially the ones overseas. According to the latest report from German retailer Mindfactory (via TechEpiphany(opens in new tab)), the GeForce RTX 4070 outsold its current competitors, such as the Radeon RX 7900 XT, twofold. In addition, the GeForce RTX 4070 sales at Mindfactory were three times higher than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. Meanwhile, Micro Center recently saw the need to bundle a $100 Steam gift card with GeForce RTX 40-series purchases, including the GeForce RTX 4070, to help move inventory. Other reports claim that Nvidia hasn't ramped up the production of GeForce RTX 40-series graphics cards, which seems to confirm that the Ada Lovelace business hasn't been booming as Nvidia had hoped. It's hard for consumers to buy your product when even the mainstream SKU carries a premium price tag. German publication Igor's Lab got word from its sources that Nvidia is reportedly contemplating slashing $50 of the GeForce RTX 4070 for its AIB partners. If the idea comes to fruition, the GeForce RTX 4070's MSRP will drop to $549 instead of the original $599. Although a $549 price tag seems easier to swallow, it's still a considerable amount to fork over. Many consumers would like a $499 price tag for the GeForce RTX 4070. For comparison, the GeForce RTX 2070 and GeForce RTX 3070 launched for $499. Maybe we're just living in the past, and the days of paying less than $500 for an RTX x070-tier graphics card are long gone. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/geforce-rtx-4070-amazon-rankings

As first uncovered by Stephen Totilo of Axios, Bungie recently won a $6.7 million judgment against Lavicheats in a US district court. As court documents read, roughly $5.5 million of that sum is for violations of the DMCA, $300,000 of it is for violations of the Copyright Act, about $600,000 is for violations of the Lanham Act, and the remaining $250,000 is for court fees and costs. Now Playing: Destiny 2: Lightfall - Launch Trailer This was a default judgment, meaning that Lavicheats never responded to the suit. According to Totilo, the Lavicheats owner is believed to live in India, which may account for this. Earlier in May, it was announced that Bungie won a similar lawsuit against VeteranCheats, AKA Mihai Claudiu-Florentin, for just over $12 million dollars. This was also a default judgment. Back in February, it won a lawsuit against a cheat-seller called AimJunkies for $4.3 million. Cheat-sellers aren't the only people that Bungie has sued for Destiny-related allegations. Back in July of last year, the company sued a Destiny 2 player for breaking the game's terms of service and threatening a Bungie staff member. In other news, Destiny 2's Guardian Games event recently began, and its Season of the Deep will start later in May. https://www.gamespot.com/articles/bungie-keeps-winning-lawsuits-against-destiny-2-cheaters-for-millions-of-dollars/1100-6513922/

  15. We recently got to see a full 20-minute quest walkthrough from Skywind, the mod recreating Morrowind in Skyrim. Earlier in the year, we saw four hours of Skyblivion, the mod recreating Oblivion in Skyrim, which is due out in 2025. But did you know about Skygerfall? As the name suggests, Skygerfall is a recreation of Daggerfall, the second mainline Elder Scrolls RPG, which was originally released in 1996. Unlike the mods bringing back more recent games it's been finalized, with a small patch earlier this year to fix some meshes bringing it up to version 1.10. Skygerfall is a more modest mod than either Skywind or Skyblivion. It's not aiming to bring the entirety of Daggerfall into Skyrim's engine, just the main questline. Which is still significant—a 20-hour romp across the Iliac Bay, visiting its maziest dungeons on behalf of Emperor Uriel Septim VII. It takes in some deep Elder Scrolls lore, lets you meet characters like Sheogorath and Mannimarco, King of Worms, and has been fully voiced. Sponsored Links If You Need To Relax On Your Computer, You Have To Play This Game. No Install Elvenar The reason to play Daggerfall wasn't just its main questline, however. It was the kind of open world RPG where you'd get distracted by joining guilds, performing assassinations for the Dark Brotherhood, becoming a vampire, finding a cure for vampirism, working for the Temples and Witch Covens, meeting all the Daedric Princes, and generally sidequesting your way across Tamriel. If that's the experience you're after, Daggerfall Unity is available for free and moddable. We've got a guide to having the best Daggerfall experience today. RECOMMENDED VIDEOS FOR YOU... CLOSE Skygerfall is more of an alternate start mod, the kind that gives your player-character a backstory before you begin yet another playthrough. It's just one that happens to be set 200 years before Skyrim begins. When it ends, you can bring your loot and spells from Skygerfall into Skyrim, and that includes spells like Levitate, Unlock, Mark, and Recall, which the series abandoned along the way. To play Skygerfall, you'll need to download it for either Skyrim Special Edition(opens in new tab) or Skyrim vanilla(opens in new tab). Make sure to disable any alternate start mods you've already installed, or grab an add-on from the files section(opens in new tab) for compatibility with Live Another Life or Realm of Lorkhan. There's also an optional add-on to replace the map menu with one that looks like the paper-style map of High Rock and Hammerfell included with Daggerfall. An imp hovers in a Skygerfall dungeon (Image credit: Oracus0/Bethesda) You'll also need to disable any body replacer mods, since Skygerfall's armor isn't compatible with them. Even with all that done, you may still run into some minor conflicts if you've got a heavy mod load. I seem to have invisible shins when wearing certain boots, and when I wield a battle staff it floats somewhere behind me. One other thing you'll probably need is the Daggerfall main quest walkthrough(opens in new tab). Skygerfall is so true to the original that if you get stuck you'll be able to rely on Daggerfall's walkthrough to find your way through its dungeons full of empty rooms and random grizzly bears. Though you might want to refresh your memory of Skyrim console commands as well. Fortunately you can fast travel to locations you haven't visited once you get quests to take you there, so you won't have to jog all the way across the two provinces, which could take almost 70 hours to cross in Daggerfall. Now, is someone out there working on Skyrena? The ghost of King Lysandus stalks the streets of Daggerfall in the Skygerfall mod https://www.pcgamer.com/while-you-wait-for-skywind-and-skyblivion-you-could-be-playing-skygerfall-right-now/
  16. The chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, Imran Khan.— @PTIofficial RAWALPINDI: The chief military spokesperson has slammed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for his “irresponsible and baseless allegations” against a serving senior military officer. “Chairman PTI has levelled highly irresponsible and baseless allegations against a serving senior military officer without any evidence,” Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director-General Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said in a statement on Monday. The PTI chief has claimed that a senior military officer, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah were behind his assassination attempt on November 3, 2022, but provided no evidence to authorities so far, while all the people accused have rejected the allegations. “These fabricated and malicious allegations are extremely unfortunate, deplorable and unacceptable,” the military’s spokesperson said. Senior analyst Shahzeb Khanzada said although what happened with the deposed prime minister in November was a tragedy, his track record forces one to believe that he might be targeting people to bolster his political support, with anchorperson Muneeb Farooq backing his analysis. Khan has also blamed former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa for his government’s ouster in April last year, but has still not been able to prove it. The army’s spokesperson, in the statement, also said that a pattern has been witnessed over the last year, wherein, the army personnel are targeted for one’s political motives. “This has been a consistent pattern for [the] last one year wherein military and intelligence agencies officials are targeted with insinuations and sensational propaganda for the furtherance of political objectives.” The ISPR DG added that politicos should refrain from making baseless allegations and warned that if such a trend were to continue, the army had the right to take legal action. “We ask the political leader concerned to make recourse to legal avenues and stop making false allegations. The institution reserves the right to take legal course of action against patently false and malafide statements and propaganda.” 'Are military officers are above the law?' Before the army's statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had condemned the PTI chief's tirade against the senior military officer. At this, Khan slammed the premier, asking whether "[military] officers were above the law?" "As someone who has suffered 2 assassination attempts on his life in last few months, can I dare to ask SS the following Qs: Have I, a citizen, the right to nominate those I feel were responsible for assassination attacks on me? Why was I denied my legal & Constitutional right to register an FIR?" "Does SS tweet mean mly officers are above the law or that they cannot commit a crime?" he wondered. The PTI chief further asked that if a person is being blamed for a crime, how can it be perceived that an entire institution is being maligned? "Who was so powerful as to sabotage Wazirabad JIT while PTI govt was in power in Punjab?" Khan, without naming anyone, said that when PM Shehbaz can truthfully answer all his questions, it would point to point to one powerful man and his accomplices "all being above the law". 17. As there is no effective national strategy to regulate the conditions under which the specimens are exhibited, traditional zoos coexist with eco-parks, sanctuaries and reserves. Even if you change your name, the negligence is the same. In a context of recognition of rights and promotion of animal welfare, the discussions around zoos as captivity sites return -once again-. Is it okay that it still exists? Which ones are still working in Argentina? What practices were modified to avoid that the copies are only destined to provide shows? At present, Victorian infrastructures coexist with other more modern facilities that, under different names (ecoparks, theme parks, sanctuaries or reserves), promise to improve living conditions. And they justify their operation from an educational purpose; after all, they say, "nobody can learn to take care of what they don't know" and they insist on protecting endangered species in this way. However, what is the price of this protection? For decades, the negligence of zoo managers (public and private) was mixed with the joy of families, who enjoyed observing (feeding and petting, in some cases) exceptional animals. But the problem is the lack of planning and ordering: to date, the country lacks a strategy that regulates practices in the field. "Argentina does not have a national policy that can then be shared with the provinces and municipalities regarding where we are going in terms of animal exhibitions and their use for environmental education, as well as in relation to modernizing the concept of the zoo and the adaptation to a conception more typical of the 21st century”, says Sergio Federovisky, Vice Minister of Environment of the Nation, in dialogue with Página 12. The Luján zoo, closed by the Environmental Control Brigade (BCA) of the Ministry of the Environment, is an example of mismanagement. According to the complaints made by the portfolio, there were, apparently, inconsistencies between the animals declared and those that were actually part of the place. They were also part of the menu to allege animal abuse and alleged trafficking. Not to mention the po[CENSORED]r crosses between lions and tigers, the “ligers”. Currently, the institution remains closed to the public, within the framework of a procedure validated by the courts on two occasions. almost a jungle The situation is dissimilar in all provinces. In Tucumán, recently, a legislative project was presented to prevent the opening of animal exhibition establishments, which sti[CENSORED]tes a period of four years for the pre-existing ones to reconvert their operation. The initiative arose as a response to the state in which the specimens were found in the San Pedro de Colalao Reserve. Thus, in a transition stage, traditional zoological gardens coexist with others that adapt their operation to the current ones. Along these lines, although there are regulations in force --such as the national laws for Fauna Conservation (22,421), Animal Protection (14,346) and adherence to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (24,375)-- they do not guarantee the welfare of animals exhibited in captivity. This is what Federovisky warns: “The concrete thing is that there are no regulations on zoos. We have a great anarchy between private, provincial and municipal zoos. In short, each one ends up being permeable to the pressures they receive from the society in which they operate, and adopt measures based on it”. Then he continues: “From Environment we fight for an animal welfare regulation, a parameter of minimum budgets. It is necessary to regulate the conditions of captivity and the profile that the institutions in which they are exhibited must have”. In general, the official assures, the reforms that have occurred are chaotic: "There are everything from eco-parks to reserves, going through conventional zoos, although with more modern cages," highlights who has also worked as a biologist and communicator. Ecoparque BA (Palermo) began this transition process in 2016, when it replaced the Buenos Aires Zoological Garden. Today equipped with capybaras, monkeys, ducks, the occasional camel, giraffe and rhea, it is a space that must be converted amidst public knowledge controversies. Two of the cases that were on the media agenda were that of Sandra, the first orangutan in the world to be declared a non-human person by a court, and in 2019 transferred to the US; and that of Winner, the last polar bear, who died a victim of high temperatures and stress from fireworks on Christmas Eve in 2012. “Both the Ecoparque BA and Temaikén, the one in La Plata or the one in Mendoza, represent a search to adapt the logic of old zoos to the demands of the 21st century, in relation to the bond that humans strengthen with animals. However, all the examples are different, they have different profiles and they all still have problems to solve”, details Federovisky. A favor and against Beyond the fact that other zoos have been recognized as places that do not guarantee the welfare of animals (a premise that, among other things, promoted the closure or conversion of a large part of these institutions), there are still voices in favor of these spaces. from captivity. Among the common reasons, those who defend its operation maintain that natural life should not be thought of as an idyllic landscape, quite the contrary. At present, it is -rather- complex scenarios with multiple threats: climate change, pollution, epidemics, accidental catches, hunting. Faced with this, the specimens that are in the zoo have veterinarians available, live (at least in theory) in better conditions and even live longer. Likewise, the defenders of maintaining places such as zoos suggest that if knowledge is generated, they also contribute to protecting diversity because, after all, no one can learn to protect what they do not know. Zoos are spaces, from this perspective, in which knowledge is produced that benefits the entire po[CENSORED]tion. Its educational function consists, therefore, in raising public awareness: an audience that, in many cases, is going to have fun and be entertained and culminates in learning about the natural world. For their part, the arguments against these spaces of confinement are linked to the fact that they do not guarantee the exercise of a fundamental right: freedom. In addition, its detractors argue that zoos are spaces whose infrastructure was designed for the animals to be displayed and not to ensure their comfort. So, when offering a show, from a sociological point of view commonly applied to humans, it is possible to point out that they are also "reified". their functioning indicate that seeing them in these confinement conditions does not contribute to understanding how nature works. Having predators and not having predators are two aspects that do not replicate real scenarios. Finally, although among its objectives are institutions that "seek to represent the planet's biodiversity", there are only the highest-grossing species. “There are several discussions that we have to settle. First, whether or not we are going to want zoos. Then, if the answer is affirmative, we have to define what kind of zoo we want. Changing the designation from zoo to theme park, reserve, or sanctuary does not imply an underlying transformation. Ultimately, we will have to define what is pursued with the exhibition of animals: if the goal is educational, reproductive, if there will be autochthonous or exotic fauna. It is not enough, as some believe, just deciding the size of the cages”, says Federovisky. Link: https://www.pagina12.com.ar/540830-anarquia-animal-la-actualidad-de-los-zoologicos-en-argentina
  18. Porsche has teased the refreshed Cayenne's front end before its Shanghai auto show debut next week. In addition to a freshened-up exterior, the 2024 Cayenne has a slick new cabin, as well. We've already driven a prototype, and the refresh also picks up some engineering tweaks. The 2024 Porsche Cayenne will make its official debut at the Shanghai auto show early next week (Monday, April 17, in U.S. time zones). Even though we're just a couple days away from that reveal, Porsche has seen fit to throw one last teaser into the mix. The teaser reveals a small portion of the Porsche Cayenne's mid-cycle refresh, and none of it really comes as a surprise. The headlights, which we've seen under camouflage, look a lot closer to those of the electric Taycan. The recently refreshed Macan appears to have loaned the Cayenne its full-width lower front fascia too. On the whole, things shouldn't look too different, but it'll bring Porsche's larger SUV up to date with the rest of its lineup. The Cayenne's interior will pick up a healthy dose of new tech. Analog gauges are dead and gone, and in their place is a 12.6-inch curved display, again similar to the Taycan. There's also a 12.3-inch dashboard touchscreen running the Porsche Communication Management infotainment system, in addition to a 10.3-inch optional passenger touchscreen—because reaching an extra three inches to change the radio is so last year. Looks only tell part of the 2024 Porsche Cayenne's story, though. Earlier this year, we took a prototype for a spin to get an early taste at what's to come. In addition to some adjustments to the tire and suspension setup, Porsche's engineers also went to town on the powertrains; power is up on both ends of the trim spectrum, while the mid-tier 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 is gone and replaced with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8. Hell yeah. The 2024 Porsche Cayenne makes its debut at 10:40 p.m. ET Monday night. 19. Lionel Messi. — AFP/File Argentinia's World Cup-winning captain Lionel Messi agreed to sign a contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, Daily Express reported Monday. Messi's future with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has been one of the main talking points in the football world, especially after the World Cup and with his contract set to expire at the end of this season. "The Argentina captain has been linked with a host of teams including Inter Miami and a return to Barcelona but it now appears he has settled on another club instead," the UK-based publication reported. The deal will be £262 million a year, which will be one of the most expensive contracts in football history, it said. Two of his former Barcelona teammates — Busquets and Jordi Alba — are also set to join him in Riyadh. "Messi's move would see him face old foe Ronaldo again as the duo re-establish their rivalry in the Middle East. Busquets joining alongside the Argentine would also be a blow to the 38-year-old after Al-Nassr had hoped to sign him themselves." Lionel Messi returned to training with PSG earlier today six days after Argentina's World Cup-winning captain was suspended for going on an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia. He was suspended by the Qatar-owned club after failing to turn up for training last Monday. Instead, the seven-time Ballon d´Or winner travelled to Saudi Arabia without PSG's permission to fulfil commitments as part of a contract with the country´s tourist office. The affair has made it increasingly unlikely that Messi will remain at PSG beyond this season, when his two-year contract with the club expires. https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/1068357-messi-set-to-join-saudi-club-report
