B.G. & Mannie Fresh) Other Information:Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. (born September 27, 1982),[2] known professionally as Lil Wayne, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter and record executive. He is commonly regarded as one of the most influential hip hop artists of his generation,[3] and often cited as one of the greatest rappers of all time.[4][5] His career began in 1995, at the age of 12, when he was signed by rapper Birdman, joining Cash Money Records as the youngest member of the label.[6] From then on, Wayne was the flagship artist of Cash Money Records before ending his association with the company in June 2018.[7] In 1995, Wayne was put in a duo with label-mate B.G. (at the time known as Lil Doogie) and they recorded an album, True Story, released that year, although Wayne (at the time known as Baby D) only appeared on three tracks.[8] Wayne and B.G. soon joined the southern hip hop group Hot Boys, with Cash Money label-mates Juvenile and Turk in 1997; they released their debut album Get It How U Live! in October that year. The Hot Boys became po[CENSORED]r following the release of the album Guerrilla Warfare (1999) and the song "Bling Bling".[citation needed] Lil Wayne's solo debut album Tha Block Is Hot (1999) was his solo breakthrough, and he reached higher po[CENSORED]rity with his fourth album Tha Carter (2004) and fifth album Tha Carter II (2005), as well as several mixtapes and collaborations throughout 2006 and 2007. He gained more prominence within the music industry with his sixth album Tha Carter III (2008), with first-week sales of over one million copies in the US. The album won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album and included successful singles "A Milli", "Got Money" (featuring T-Pain), and "Lollipop" (featuring Static Major)—the latter being his first single to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100. In February 2010, Wayne released his seventh studio album, Rebirth, which experimented with rap rock and was met with generally negative reviews. A month later in March 2010, Lil Wayne began serving an 8-month jail sentence in New York after being convicted of criminal possession of a weapon stemming from an incident in July 2007. His eighth studio album I Am Not a Human Being (2010) was released during his incarceration, while his 2011 album Tha Carter IV was released following his release. Tha Carter IV sold 964,000 copies in its first week in the United States.[9] His twelfth studio album Tha Carter V was released in 2018 after multiple delays. Wayne's thirteenth album, Funeral, was released in early 2020.[10] Lil Wayne has sold over 120 million records worldwide, including more than 20 million albums and 70 million digital tracks in the United States, making him one of the world's best-selling music artists.[11][12][13] He has won five Grammy Awards, 11 BET Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards and eight NAACP Image Awards. On September 27, 2012, he became the first male artist to surpass Elvis Presley with the most entries on the Billboard Hot 100, with 109 songs.[14][15] Lil Wayne also currently serves as the chief executive officer (CEO) of his own label, Young Money Entertainment.

Google Fined RUB 3 Million in Russia Over YouTube Videos on LGBT Propaganda: Reports Russian prosecutors said Google had refused to remove several videos posted on YouTube HIGHLIGHTS Russia strengthened its laws against "promotion of LGBT propaganda" The law has been heavily criticised by independent human rights groups Russian subsidiary of Alphabet's Google filed for bankruptcy last year A Russian court fined Alphabet's Google RUB 3 million (nearly Rs. 31 lakh) on Thursday for failing to delete YouTube videos it said promoted "LGBT propaganda" and "false information" about Russia's military campaign in Ukraine, Russian news agencies reported. Over the last year Moscow has levied dozens of fines against Western tech companies as part of a drive to ramp up control over what Russian internet users see online. As well as passing strict censorship laws shortly after it dispatched troops into Ukraine, Russia also last year strengthened its laws against what it calls the "promotion of LGBT propaganda". Under the new law, which widens Russia's interpretation of what qualifies as "LGBT propaganda" and has been heavily criticised by independent human rights groups, any action or the spreading of any information that is considered an attempt to promote homosexuality in public, online, or in films, books or advertising, could incur a heavy fine. The Russian subsidiary of Alphabet's Google filed for bankruptcy last year after authorities seized its bank accounts following a December 2021 fine of RUB 7.2 billion roubles (nearly Rs. 767 crore)) over what Russian authorities said was the company's "repeated failure" to delete content. https://www.gadgets360.com/internet/news/google-fined-rub-3-million-russia-youtube-videos-lgbt-propganda-4027004

Android (Image credit: TechRadar) With each new year we get a new version of Android, and this year it’s Android 14’s turn. So you can expect a major upgrade to your phone, with new features and potentially a new look, once Android 14 – or Android Upside Down Cake as it’s codenamed – rolls out. We’ve got a few months to wait until it does formally arrive, but the operating system update has already been announced, and a Developer Preview of it is now available, with a public beta(opens in new tab) following shortly afterward. Google often holds its cards close to its chest until IO this week. That's where we'll learn a lot more about what’s in store. Below, you’ll find details of when Android 14 will launch in both beta and finished forms, along with all the other information we have about Android 14 so far; both rumored and confirmed. As soon as we hear anything new we’ll also add it to this article, so check back soon for updates. Sponsored Links Build Apps for any Screen Flutter Cut to the chase What is it? The next version of Android When is it out? Probably August or September How much will it cost? It will be a free upgrade Android 14 release date Android 14 was announced by Google on February 8, 2023, and the first Developer Preview launched on the same day, with the second Developer Preview also now here, having landed in early March. RECOMMENDED VIDEOS FOR YOU... CLOSE Google also shared a timeline for the rollout of Android 14 versions, with the first public beta landing in the second week of April. Another release is due for May after IO, and that version was the earliest we’d suggest trying it out, and even then you should be prepared for bugs and unfinished features. The final beta is planned for July, with the actual finished release not being given a month yet in the timeline, but August or September seems likely, as there’s unlikely to be a huge gap between the final beta and the finished release. Plus, August and September have been the most common release months for new Android versions in recent years – though Android 12 didn’t launch until October of its release year. Google's Android 14 timeline The current state of the Android 14 timeline (Image credit: Google) Another important date to note is May 10, as that’s when the Google IO 2023 developer conference is scheduled to take place. We’ll likely see one of the betas roll out after, with new features possibly also set to be announced at this event. Android 14 supported phones If you’ve used Android for a while then you’ll know it isn’t like iOS, where every phone made in the last five years or so gets the new version on day one. With Android, support is a lot more volatile, and many phones are left waiting months to receive their tailored update. That said, if you have a recent Google Pixel phone, then you will definitely be getting the update, and probably on day one. The Pixel 7 series, Pixel 6 series (including Pixel 6a), Pixel 5 series, and Pixel 4a 5G all support the Android 14 developer preview, so you can pretty much count on them all getting the finished version too. Older Pixels won’t though. This includes the Pixel 4a which came out just two months before the Pixel 5 and 4a 5G. Beyond that, most other phones that came out in the last year or so will get it, and many phones that are a couple of years old will too, as will some older handsets. Many Samsung phones qualify for four years of operating system upgrades, but that policy only applies to recent handsets, which would have gotten Android 14 anyway; devices like the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, the Samsung Galaxy S22 series, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. Other recent big-name phones like the OnePlus 11, OnePlus 10 Pro, Sony Xperia 1 IV, and the Xiaomi 12 will, of course, get Android 14 too. But so will most niche smartphones, just as long as they’re recent models. Again though, many of these phones won’t get the update on day one. The Nothing Phone will also be getting Android 14 and participating in the Android 14 Beta. Despite being a small brand that would ordinarily be expected to be terrible with updates, it's an enthusiast one, and the CEO Carl Pei has his finger on the pulse of its biggest supporters. "Google has been an early supporter of Nothing and both teams are dedicated to working closely in implementing feedback to deliver the best user experience," Pei said(opens in new tab). We expect Google to roll out a more complete list of phones in the following weeks once it's finished with Google IO. OnePlus 11 in green on wicker basket top with screen on The OnePlus 11 is one of many phones that will definitely get Android 14 (Image credit: Future / Philip Berne) Android 14 beta Alongside the Developer Preview, Google has also released the first Beta builds for the Android 14 preview. Not all the headline features are going to be here (and we don't even know what the headline features are going to be), so we would still recommend holding on to Android 13 until at least Google IO has come and gone. As for trying Android 14, it depends on whether you want to get the Developer preview or a public preview. We'd recommend the latter. If you’re set on trying Android 14 as a developer, you can head to the Android developer site(opens in new tab) to get it. Should you want to grab it as a member of the public, you can head to the Android beta(opens in new tab) site for that. Android 14 features The Android 14 logo (Image credit: Google) We don’t know everything about Android 14 yet, as neither the initial Developer Preview nor Beta release doesn’t have every final feature included, but based on that preview, along with some leaks, we are aware of some key things. You’ll find the most significant expected features below. Satellite communication The iPhone 14 series sports emergency satellite communication for when there’s no cell signal, and Google is building support for this feature directly into Android 14, so soon it might be common on Android phones too. Of course, Android phone makers will still need to choose to support this feature and equip their handsets with the necessary hardware, but native software support may make them more keen to do so. Sideload securely In an effort to save people from downloading malicious apps, Android 14 will stop users from sideloading apps aimed at ancient versions of Android. Apps on the Google Play Store already have to be aimed at fairly recent versions of Android, but currently there’s nothing to stop users from going to third-party stores or websites and getting apps built for even the very earliest Android versions. That’s not secure, as hackers can create apps that target flaws in these earlier operating system versions, so with Android 14, wherever you get your apps from you should be a little safer from these vulnerabilities. Locked-down accessibility services Google now says that apps uploaded to the Play Store which aim to use accessibility services will now be restricted from using them unless they are truthfully reporting their intention. This means they would have to genuinely serve users who require these advanced accessibility services. Google's Talkback app, for example, allows users to have their screen contents read out. That user case would qualify as a genuine accessibility need. This also means that an app can't claim to use a shortcut or tool intended to mitigate the effects of disabilities to trick users into transferring money to someone else's account. At the same time, this means customization or functionality hacks that relied on accessibility services can no longer work. As this is approximately the 100th time Google's tried to lock down its accessibility services for safety and security reasons, we can only assume their developers are well prepared at this point. Proper passkey support Android 14 seems to be bringing in full support for passkeys, which could mean the days of passwords are numbered. Passkeys are a more secure alternative to passwords, and they work via sets of encryption keys. While passkey support already exists in Android, currently the keys have to be stored within Google’s own password manager system, whereas with Android 14, third-party password managers like Dashlane and LastPass will be able to store the keys, so you don’t have to be tied to Google’s own security. Regional preferences Screenshots showing Android 14's regional preferences feature (Image credit: Google / XDA Developers / @MishaalRahman) One other feature being tested for Android 14 – as spotted by XDA Developers(opens in new tab) – is the ability to set your preferred temperature units, first day of the week, calendar type, and number system, which will then be applied across apps. Health Connect Screenshots showing Health Connect on Android 14 (Image credit: Google / XDA Developers) Health Connect lets you sync data between your health and fitness apps and devices, so that you can potentially see all of this data in one place. It’s not a new app, but – as spotted by XDA Developers(opens in new tab) – with Android 14 it’s seemingly being integrated into the platform, rather than being a separate app that you have to download. App cloning Screenshots showing the cloned apps feature on Android 14 (Image credit: Google / XDA Developers) One feature Google is testing for Android 14 – via XDA Developers(opens in new tab) – is known as ‘cloned apps’, and allows you to create a second instance of an app, so you can be logged in with two different accounts at the same time, for apps that don’t natively support multiple accounts. We’ve seen this sort of feature before from some phone makers, but this is the first time it’s been a part of stock Android. Font scaling The first Developer Preview of Android 14 includes font scaling up to 200% to help low-vision users. It’s cleverly designed too, as it uses a non-linear scaling curve, which means that while the smallest elements might grow by 200%, already large text won’t increase by the same amount, so that it won’t get impractically large. View apps installed in the background Screenshots showing the apps installed in background display on Android 14 (Image credit: Google / XDA Developers) Your phone likely won’t just include the apps you installed on it. There will also be pre-installed apps, much of which could be considered bloatware. Worse, manufacturers and carriers will sometimes add apps to your phone at a later date, without your permission or knowledge, and of course viruses and the like could also add apps to your phone without your knowledge. These are described as apps that were installed in the background, and with Android 14, XDA Developers has found(opens in new tab) that you’ll be able to view a list of all of these, so you can keep on top of them. Emoji wallpaper Screenshots showing the emoji wallpaper on Android 14 (Image credit: Google / XDA Developers) If you're a Pixel user then it looks like Android 14 will let you create a wallpaper for your phone, using a combination of up to 14 different emojis of your choice, along with a choice of patterns and colors. You can see some examples of this from XDA Developers above. Enhanced live wallpapers Much like emoji wallpapers, there are also potential live wallpaper enhancements coming to Android 14. The sleuths at XDA Developers(opens in new tab)note that Google has planned to expand support for live wallpapers so that they would work like regular wallpapers. This means that you'd be able to set a separate live wallpaper for your homescreen and your lockscreen. Live wallpapers are a cool feature that Android (and iPhone) users have had for years and being able to set them independently of each other would enhance personalization. Auto-confirm PINs A small feature spotted like so many others by XDA Developers(opens in new tab), this time in the second Developer Preview of Android 14, is the ability to have correct PINs automatically confirmed. What that means is that when you enter the final digit of a PIN, it would automatically accept it, rather than you having to press 'OK' or 'Confirm' or the like. This feature will only work for PINs of at least six digits. Now Playing statistics and summaries page Google introduced Now Playing to Pixel phones as a cool feature that allowed you to essentially Shazam what was playing around you all the time. It even worked offline and is private(opens in new tab) on Pixels from the Pixel 4 and onward. Since its introduction, Now Playing had been left alone for years without changing, that's no longer the case with Android 14 according to a report from 9to5Google(opens in new tab). With Android 14, Now Playing is rumored to be updated to include a feature that tracks stats. In other words, you'll know how much you hear songs in the background. In other words, you'd see statistics and summaries. It's not life-changing, but it certainly is nice to have. https://www.techradar.com/news/android-14

Rocket 2230 (Image credit: Sabrent) Sabrent normally sells the Rocket 2230 1TB for $159.99. However, for a limited time, this small and fast SSD can be yours for just $109.99(opens in new tab), saving you a nice $50 off the regular price. Thus far, the discount only applies to purchases from Sabrent’s online store. Admittedly, there aren’t many M.2 2230 SSD options on the current market. Although the SSDs are used inside po[CENSORED]r devices, such as the ultrabooks or the Steam Deck, manufacturers haven’t given the form factor much attention. That doesn’t take away the fact that the Rocket 2230 is one of the best SSDs even if there’s little to no competition in the category. The Rocket 2230 1TB is the flagship SKU of Sabrent’s M.2 2230 lineup. Sadly, the vendor doesn’t offer a 2TB option, which would have been great since modern games are only getting bigger. The Rocket 2230 is a PCIe 4.0 SSD and delivers performance that does justice to its credentials. The tiny SSD offers sequential read and write speeds up to 4,750 MB/s and 4,300 MB/s, respectively. With performance figures like that, the Rocket 2230 is faster than the default drives in the Steam Deck and some of the OEM drives on the market. Sponsored Links If You Need To Relax On Your Computer, You Have To Play This Game. No Install Elvenar Performance isn’t the Rocket 2230’s only selling point. The SSD has been demonstrated to be extraordinarily power efficient in our tests. It’s an important aspect when choosing an M.2 2230 SSD since its primary target is mobile devices, like ultra-thin notebooks and handheld gaming consoles. RECOMMENDED VIDEOS FOR YOU... CLOSE The Rocket 2230 also has a generous warranty, which is another point in its favor. True, there are cheaper OEM options out there but those don’t typically come with a warranty. It’s a tremendous risk since the OEM can fail in a few weeks or months. Maybe you’ll get lucky, and it lasts for a few years. But it’s a lottery. The Rocket 2230, on the other hand, comes with a five-year warranty with registration. Valve doesn’t plan to release a Steam Deck 2 “for a few years”. But when the company does and if the new device retains the same form factor SSD, you’re already set with the Rocket 2230 1TB. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/get-dollar50-off-this-m2-2230-1tb-ssd-for-your-steam-deck

Microsoft is reportedly looking to bring Xbox-style quick resume to Windows. As reporter Tom Warren spotted on Twitter, Xbox's head of hardware Roanne Soanes focused on the potential of "quick resume" tech at an Asus ROG Ally streaming event. Soanes speculates about the possibility of playing a game on a desktop PC, and then resuming the same game from the same point on a portable device like the Ally. She then points out that similar tech exists on Xbox, so it's a question of how to bring that to other devices. She said, "How do we think about integrating [quick resume] into Windows platform? How do we think about really working with developers and publishers, not just our own, but also more broadly with third party?" Microsoft dropping hints that it’s thinking about bringing Xbox Quick Resume or something similar to Windows. This would be great for PC gamers. Here’s Roanne Soanes, head of Xbox hardware, discussing improving the Windows experience here pic.twitter.com/8eT87PhYoy — Tom Warren (@tomwarren) May 11, 2023 However, Soanes makes no indication of when quick resume could come to PC, how it would work, or with what platforms it would be compatible with. Microsoft has been developing tech that promises to greatly reduce load times. For example, Direct Storage 1.1 released in 2022 and uses the GPU, rather than the CPU, to decompress game assets, which promises to dramatically reduce load times. Microsoft has also explicitly supported the ROG Ally. Players who purchase the device will get three months of Game Pass Ultimate for free. Unlike the Steam Deck, the Ally uses Windows, so it can run Game Pass Ultimate natively without further installations or changes. https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-hardware-exec-wants-to-bring-quick-resume-to-windows/1100-6514082/

We learned last year about The Store is Closed(opens in new tab), a survival game that trapped players inside an "infinite furniture store" that was quite clearly an Ikea in all but name—creator Jacob Shaw even referred to it as "an infinite Ikea game" on Reddit. The similarity was overt enough that Ikea threatened legal action, and so when we ran across Retail Royale(opens in new tab) on Steam—"a chaotic Battle Royale inside a furniture store where everything is a weapon"—our first thought was that The Store is Closed had rebranded, retooled, and come back as a battle royale game. But no: Somehow, there are now two distinct, large-scale pretend-Ikea games on the market. Retail Royale has been in early access for a year, and actually got some attention from streamers including xQc(opens in new tab) and JFJ(opens in new tab) not long after it went live. It's been quite well received during that time, too, with more than 3,600 user reviews on Steam giving it a "mostly positive" overall rating. It sounds pretty straightforward as battle royales go: 16 players try to kill each other using everything at hand, from guns to axes, rakes, and pieces of furniture. Items can be recycled, and the materials left over used to craft new stuff. There are cosmetic items to earn, the map is large and has "distinct store sections," and both free-for-all and duos modes are supported. Sponsored Links If You Need To Spend Time On Your Computer, You Have To Play This Game. No Install Elvenar But it's the setting that makes Retail Royale most interesting, because it's even more overt about the Ikea connection than The Store is Closed. This, in case there's any doubt, is the very first screenshot on the Steam page: RECOMMENDED VIDEOS FOR YOU... Retail Royale screenshot (Image credit: DarxDev) Ikea's lawyers insisted that the developers of The Store is Closed "make changes" to the game to lessen the Ikea connection, although it's not currently clear whether developer Ziggy intends to comply. The same fate could befall Retail Royale, but there might be an argument that both games count as protected parodies. According to SteamDB, Retail Royale actually predates The Store is Closed very slightly: Retail Royale's(opens in new tab) Steam page went live on February 18, 2021, while The Store is Closed(opens in new tab) showed up several weeks later, on March 31 of the same year. It's an odd bit of timing, but Ikea's problems with real-world battles royale in its stores—which is to say, massive games of hide-and-seek and other such tomfoolery—go back years prior to that: In 2015, more than 32,000 people signed up on Facebook to take part in massive games of hide-and-seek(opens in new tab) in Ikea stores in the Netherlands. The company learned about the plan and put the kibosh on it, although much like its approach to The Store is Closed, it did so very gently, saying it was "happy that our customers are playful" but "can no longer guarantee the security of those who are playing or our customers and employees." https://www.pcgamer.com/wait-there-are-two-different-games-about-causing-large-scale-mayhem-in-a-pretend-ikea/

A car carries former prime minister Imran Khan, as he arrives to appear before the Supreme Court in Islamabad on May 11, 2023. — AFP ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan Thursday declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan's arrest "illegal" and ordered his release — a major relief for the deposed prime minister who was arrested two days back in a corruption case from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC). The apex court has sent the PTI chief to the Police Lines Guest House and ordered him to present himself before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) by tomorrow, the same court which declared his arrest legal, while also setting the precedence that no person will be arrested within the premises of a court. When the authorities presented the PTI chief before the three-member bench at around 5:40pm — an hour later than ordered — the hearing resumed and there was a short exchange of words between Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial and Khan and then the order was issued. PTI — which has been on a rampage for the last two days and its protests have led to clashes with the police across the country, resulting in the death of several — welcomed the decision, with the government unhappy with the development. The three-member bench — headed by CJP Bandial and comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar — issued the verdict on PTI's petition challenging Khan's arrest. The petition was filed after the capital's high court declared his arrest legal on May 9 (the day he was arrested), despite expressing dissatisfaction over the manner of the arrest. “It is good seeing you,” CJP Bandial told Khan when he was presented before the three-member bench, and also asked him to "condemn" the violent protests that took place as a result of the arrest. Imran tells supporters to refrain from violence In response, the PTI chief, through the media present in the courtroom, forwarded a message to his supporters that they should refrain from damaging public and private property. “I don’t want any loss in the country nor do I wish for people to get incited. I just want free and fair elections,” the PTI chief told the court, pleading with the court that despite his responding to the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) notices, he was arrested. In response to the court’s question about whether he knew what was going on in Pakistan, Khan — who became the first prime minister to be ousted from office through a no-confidence vote in April last year — said his mobile phone was taken away and he was unaware about what was happening in the country. Then the PTI chief requested the CJP to send him home, but the top judge said he was not going to do that and assured him that he would "remain at peace at the Police Lines Guest House". "You can stay there, talk, rest, and then present yourself before the Islamabad High Court tomorrow," CJP told Khan. The CJP then directed authorities to allow Khan to meet as many as 10 people — including his lawyers, friends, and family members. Sit with political opponents even if 'you don't like them' The CJP then told the deposed prime minister to begin a dialogue with his opponents, which will lead to “peace” in the society. “This will be a good move as you have been entrusted with the people’s rights.” The chief justice noted that Khan should start talks with his political opponents even though he does not like them, adding that there is a need to do this as the narratives on both political ends have become “extreme”. “230 million are awaiting for their leader to move the boat forward,” he said, also noting that the political divide has become so extreme that his friend informed him that during the ongoing protests, the next house that could be targeted could be of the CJP. The CJP told Khan that numerous cases have been lodged against him, to which, the PTI chief that “there aren’t many”. CJP Bandial, without naming anyone, also told the PTI chief that “they have registered many cases against you [...] you know who I am talking about”. Again, without naming the individual or group, the CJP said: “Even they have rendered many sacrifices.” In the backdrop of the chaos, Khan then told the bench that a reaction was bound to happen in response to the treatment meted out to him. At this, Justice Minallah asked him not to utter such words and be cautious about what he says in the presence of the media. Al-Qadir Trust case The former prime minister — along with his wife Bushra Bibi and other PTI leaders — is facing a NAB inquiry related to a settlement between the PTI government and a property tycoon, which reportedly caused a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer. As per the charges, Khan and other accused allegedly adjusted Rs50 billion — 190 million pounds at the time — sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the Pakistani government as part of the agreement with the property tycoon. They are also accused of getting undue benefit in the form of over 458 kanals of land at Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, to establish Al Qadir University. During the PTI government, United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA) seized assets worth 190 million pounds from a property tycoon in Britain. The agency said the assets would be passed to the government of Pakistan and the settlement with the Pakistani property tycoon was “a civil matter, and does not represent a finding of guilt”. Subsequently, then prime minister Khan get approval of the settlement with the UK crime agency from his cabinet on December 3, 2019, without disclosing the details of the confidential agreement. It was decided that the money would be submitted to the Supreme Court on behalf of the tycoon. Subsequently, Al-Qadir Trust was established in Islamabad a few weeks after the Imran-led government approved the agreement with the property tycoon. PTI leaders Zulfi Bukhari, Babar Awan, Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi, and her close friend Farah Khan were appointed as members of the trust. Two to three months after the cabinet’s approval, the property tycoon transferred 458 canals of land to Bukhari, a close aide of the PTI chief, which he later transferred to the trust. Later, Bukhari and Awan opted out as the trustees. That trust is now registered in the name of Khan, Bushra Bibi and Farah. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials were earlier probing the alleged misuse of powers in the process of recovery of “dirty money” received from the UK crime agency. Following the emergence of irrefutable evidence in the case, the inquiry against Imran, Bushra Bibi, Barrister Shahzad Akbar, and a real estate tycoon was converted into the investigation. According to the NAB officials, Khan and his wife obtained land worth billions of rupees from the property tycoon, to build an educational institute, in return for striking a deal to give legal cover to the property tycoon’s black money received from the UK crime agency. https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/1069214-three-member-sc-bench-hears-ptis-plea-challenging-imran-khans-arrest

The animal charity has said that the Genetic Technology (Precision Breeding) Act applies to all vertebrate animals, not only farmed animals, and that it could lead to cats and dogs being gene-edited to include extreme features. The law allows the creation and marketing of “precision-bred” or genome-edited plants and vertebrate animals in England. The government said it would allow farmers to grow crops that are drought- and disease-resistant, reduce the use of fertilisers and pesticides, and help breed animals that are protected from catching harmful diseases. The UK environment secretary, Thérèse Coffey, described the act, which received royal assent on Thursday, as a “Brexit freedom”, but the RSPCA said it could have dire consequences for animal welfare. David Bowles, the head of campaigns and public affairs at the RSPCA, criticised what he described as an “ill-judged policy”. He said the charity had tried to get the government to include an exemption for pets, but was “sadly ignored”. He added: “Gene editing could be a huge step backwards for animals. We do not believe this act should include animals, whether they are farm, pet or wildlife. Invasive procedures are needed to create each line of gene-edited mammals, there is no history of use for this powerful technology, and it can cause unintended changes to the genome, with unpredictable effects. The RSPCA has serious animal welfare and ethical concerns about this.” Genome editing is a group of techniques that enable changes to an organism’s DNA, and the animal charity warned that editing an animal’s genome involved procedures that could cause “pain, suffering, distress and lasting harm”. Gene editing was previously subject to the strict rules and regulations that control genetically modified organisms (GMOs), but under this new law gene-edited animals and food will not be classed in England as GMOs and will not need to be labelled as such. There are concerns that a demand for cats and dogs with extreme appearances could cause breeders to use gene editing to create pets with these characteristics. “We feel there is no justification whatsoever for non-farm animals to be covered by the [legislation],” Bowles said. “Ongoing demands for dogs and cats with harmful physical characteristics and exaggerated conformational features, and relentless pressure on sporting animals, are already of deep concern, and there has been no public consultation on gene editing non-farm animals.” The government has said it would take a “step-by-step” approach when releasing the regulatory framework that goes with the act. It said in a press release: “While there is great potential for increasing innovation, the government recognises that there is a need to safeguard animal welfare in the new regulatory framework. That is why we are taking a step-by-step approach, enabling use of precision breeding technologies with plants first followed by animals later.” https://www.theguardian.com/science/2023/mar/24/pets-could-be-gene-edited-under-new-english-law-says-rspca

SAO CAETANO DO SUL. - If there is a segment that has been growing significantly year after year, it is that of electric vehicles, which closed 2022 with almost 10% of world sales of passenger vehicles, against 8.3% the previous year, according to the consultancy EV Volume. But despite the rapid po[CENSORED]rization of future technology, many people still have doubts about how to drive a vehicle like this, the only one with zero emissions. "In fact, an electric car is even easier to drive than a conventional automatic vehicle," says Luiz Eduardo Martins, director of vehicle engineering for GM South America. Since EVs have a system called One Pedal, it is enough for the driver to relieve the pressure on the accelerator pedal for the vehicle to begin gradual braking, also taking advantage of the energy dissipated in the maneuver to potentiate the autonomy of the batteries. "A button on the dashboard activates this driving mode, and if there is a need for more abrupt braking, the driver must use the conventional brake pedal," explains Martins. Another advantage of electric vehicles is the absence of noise and vibrations from the engine, which makes long trips much more comfortable and pleasant, especially. EVs are also relatively very useful in terms of performance, with powerful starts that make them a lot of fun to drive. This is due to the fact that full engine power is instantly available and there is only one forward gear, which also helps maneuvering back into gear, giving a greater sense of safety when overtaking. https://media.gm.com/media/ec/es/chevrolet/news.detail.html/content/Pages/news/ec/es/2023/mar/0321-electrico.html

A collage featuring the captains of all six countries gearing up to participate in Asia Cup 2023. — Asia Cup website The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suggested a new proposal for the Asia Cup that suggests that the matches should be played in two different phases, according to sources. The new proposal suggests that in the first phase, all the teams except India will play one match in Pakistan in the first phase. In the second phase, all the teams including India will complete their remaining matches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The new model suggests that the final match will also take place in the Gulf country. Earlier, The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) suggested a “hybrid model” to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for the Asian event with India’s matches scheduled offshore. However, that model was reportedly rejected by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The members of the ACC will present the new plan to Indian cricket board secretary Jay Shah before making the final decision. Meanwhile, PCB Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi has left for England after discussing the new proposal with ACC members in Dubai. It must be noted that in October last year Pakistani cricket authorities hinted they may pull out of next year's World Cup in India, a day after officials there said they would not send a team to the 2023 Asia Cup in Pakistan. Shah had said that India "can't" send a team to Pakistan, adding the tournament would be moved to a neutral venue. His announcement caught Pakistan by surprise, with officials warning it could "split" the international cricket community. The PCB said Shah's comments "can impact Pakistan's visit to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and future ICC Events in India in the 2024-2031 cycle". The Pakistan board said it has not received any official communication from the ACC, and noted that hosting rights for the 2023 Asia Cup had been given to Pakistan under Shah's leadership. Despite being considered one of sport's greatest rivalries, India and Pakistan have not met on home soil in any version of the game since 2012, and only play each other in multinational tournaments on neutral grounds. https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/1069239-has-pcb-suggested-new-proposal-for-asia-cup

The family of a Palestinian man, killed during a riot by settlers in the occupied West Bank, say they were unable to report his death to police, and relied on Israeli media reports to trigger an investigation. Sameh al-Aqtash was shot outside his home near Hawara in February, after a crowd of Israeli settlers and soldiers gathered at the perimeter fence of the nearby Palestinian village of Zaatara. His brother, Rashdan, said the family had tried twice to report his death to the Israeli authorities in the days after the killing, but were turned away. Israeli police opened an investigation after media reports highlighted the family's difficulty in reporting the death. Rashdan al-Aqtash said the residents of Zaatara - all part of the al-Aqtash extended family - were unarmed when confronted by the crowd of settlers on 26 February. "They started throwing stones, and we pelted them with stones as well while shouting 'Allah is Great'," he said. "In situations like this, the army usually fire tear gas to disperse people, and then rubber bullets, and finally they fire into the air. This time, they started firing live ammunition directly into the people." It took 40 minutes to get Sameh to hospital, he says, because roads were blocked. He was pronounced dead on arrival. The family said they first tried to report his death to the military liaison office in Hawara, but that officers there had refused to receive them. It is not clear who fired the bullet that killed Sameh. Incidents involving soldiers are referred to Israel's military command in the West Bank; incidents involving settlers are referred to the police, who are often based inside Israeli settlements. After being turned away from the military liaison office, the family went with their lawyer to a police station in the Israeli settlement of Ariel. "We waited an hour outside, but they refused to meet us," Rashdan told me. "They said there was a security problem and they needed to handle it first." The family returned to the same police station the following day, but say they were again turned away. Few indictments Ziv Stahl, executive director of the Israeli human rights organisation, Yesh Din, says many Palestinians in the West Bank encounter problems reporting crimes to Israeli police. "Police stations are located mostly inside settlements," she said. "Palestinians are forbidden from entering Israeli settlements [without a permit], so they have to come with a police escort. Then they are faced with claims that there is no investigator, or no-one who speaks Arabic to take the complaint." Police from Ariel did later contact the family, after Israeli media highlighted the situation. A police spokesperson confirmed in a statement that media reports had prompted an investigation, including the collection of forensic and other evidence. The BBC understands that police have no official record of other attempts to report the incident, and that Sameh's body was buried before the investigation was opened. "We will continue to investigate this case thoroughly in order to reach the truth," the statement said. "They listened to us," Rashdan told me, "but we are not hopeful they will do anything." Ziv Stahl says 93% of complaints filed with Israeli police regarding settler violence or ideologically motivated crimes are closed without indictments. "It says something about the quality of the investigations and resources that only 7% of complaints end with indictments," she told me. According to the organisation's data, the rate for military indictments is even lower - less than 1%. We asked the Israeli police about these figures, but they did not respond to our question. Ms Stahl says Palestinian trust in the system has eroded to the point where, in more than a third of cases, families do not file a complaint at all. Rashdan al-Aqtash told me the chances of police finding the person who shot his brother were extremely low. "[Sameh] was known for helping everyone," Rashdan said. "He helped Jews. His children still can't believe that he's dead." 'What's done is done' Violent confrontations and attacks between Palestinians and Israelis in the occupied West Bank have been rising for months. The riots in Hawara - in which settlers torched houses, shops and vehicles - came hours after two brothers from a nearby settlement were killed by a Palestinian gunman on the main road passing through the town. Since then, three British-Israeli women were killed when they were shot by suspected Palestinian gunmen as they drove through the Jordan Valley; an Italian tourist died after a car-ramming attack by an Israeli Arab in Tel Aviv; and a Palestinian teenager was shot dead during an Israeli raid near Jericho. The division and mistrust between Israeli and Palestinian residents here is widening, as Rashdan's parting words made strikingly clear: "There's no justice," he said. "His Jewish friend told us to file a case, but it won't bring Sameh back. [They] kill people and get away with it. For us, what's done is done." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-65347218

A research team from the University of Southampton plans to implement ultra-modern wing sails on merchant ships, with the aim of reducing carbon emissions. The group intends to create new software tools that accurately predict the performance of modern ships in the ocean when equipped with FastRig wing sails. These sails are developed by the British company Smart Green Shipping and have government financial support. Joseph Banks, lead scientist on the project, said global shipping needs to be decarbonised quickly. “Our team of researchers will investigate the complex interactions between the wing sails and the hydrodynamics of the ship, allowing for accurate predictions of the ship's performance that will be compared to the Pacific Grebe demo ship as part of the project,” explained Banks, a member of the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute and who works at the forefront of the Winds of change project. As part of the two-year development programme, scientists will test the impact of an adapted 20-metre tall FastRig retractable wing sail on the commercial vessel Pacific Grebe, a 105-metre British ship. Banks considered this project innovative, because the sails can be retrofitted to existing boats to rapidly reduce emissions from existing boats. In addition, quieter and emission-free ships will be created in the future, which do not harm ocean environments and improve air quality in ports, towns and cities. https://www.eluniverso.com/larevista/tecnologia/investigadores-probaran-velas-en-grandes-buques-mercantes-para-reducir-la-contaminacion-nota/
