Maulana Fazl, who is also head of the multiparty ruling alliance -- Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) -- had announced staging a “peaceful” sit-in outside the apex court on Monday (today) against Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial for “facilitating” and giving “VIP protocol” to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, following a meeting of PDM parties’ heads, also attended by PMLN supremo Nawaz Sharif from London via video link. Federal Minister for Interior Rana Sanaullah and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar called on Maulana Fazl at his residence and urged him not to stage the sit-in outside the apex court to prevent further tension in the country. “The government wants the PDM to hold the protest at the D-Chowk,” Dar said, adding that law and order situation was already created a few days ago. Setting aside their request, Fazl said that convoys from all over the country have left for Islamabad: “We have announced [about sit-in] and now the decision will be made in people’s court.” He assured the ministers that the protest will remain “peaceful”. Non-native house mice are to be removed from Marion Island in the southern Indian Ocean to protect the wandering albatross and other endangered seabirds, in the world’s largest eradication programme of its kind. Mice accidentally introduced on to the remote island by 19th-century seal hunters have thrived in warmer and drier conditions over the past 30 years, devastating the island’s invertebrates and plants, and then devouring the chicks and even adults of ground- and burrow-nesting seabirds. Marion Island, an uninhabited sub-Antarctic island ravaged by wind 1,370 miles (2,200km) south-east of Cape Town, hosts millions of breeding seabirds, including four species of penguin and a quarter of the world’s wandering albatrosses. Without action against the mice, the albatross is predicted to become extinct on the island, along with 18 of the 28 seabird species currently breeding there. “The need is urgent and clear for Marion Island’s globally important seabirds which include the iconic wandering albatross, other albatrosses, petrels and prions,” said Keith Springer, the operations manager for the Mouse-Free Marion project“While the removal of mice from Marion Island brings clear benefits to the birds and other animal and plant species that live there, the value of this conservation intervention reaches far beyond the island’s shoreline. Marion Island’s seabirds are members of a regional seabird community innately connected to the functioning and health of the sub-Antarctic region.” A fleet of helicopters will first be brought by sea from South Africa across the “roaring forties”, the notoriously strong westerly winds in the Southern Ocean. Renault CEO Luca de Meo has confirmed the company is looking to make a return to the United States, most probably with its sporty sub-brand Alpine, and possibly by 2027 or 2028. De Meo says Alpine, which last week revealed an exciting electric hot-hatch concept, the A290_ß, the production version of which will share its platform with the recently announced Renault 5 EV, already has Tiguan-sized EV crossover under development for launch in 2025 and is contemplating two even bigger EVs for the U.S. market. "The U.S. is an opportunity we will be looking at," de Meo told the Financial Times Future of the Car summit in London, "and if we find an opportunity it will probably be with the Alpine brand." Renault exited the U.S. in 1987 after selling AMC to Chrysler—though Renault engineer François Castaing stayed in Detroit to famously engineer the Jeep Cherokee and the Chrysler LH cars, among many others—and Alpine is perhaps better known to Americans because of its presence in Formula 1. Forget the quick fixes, such as yoga workshops and juice cleanses: lead a rewarding life, rather than chasing short-term pleasures Most of us strive for a life where we feel we have real choices about how we spend our time and energy. But we get boggled in that pursuit – confused about where exactly we’re heading. Self-care has become a staple in our lives. From juice cleanses to yoga workshops, we are sold breezy fixes in pastel-coloured packages. This is faux self-care, but we are made to feel at fault when they don’t work. But we are not broken: the game is rigged against us. Research on well­being is divided into two theories of how to go about living a good life: the hedonic approach and the eudaimonic approach. Hedonic well­being focuses on the feeling states of happiness and pleasure. In many respects, faux self-care – the diets, the cleanses, the retreats, the life hacks – is aligned with this, with its focus on what feels good in the moment and escaping difficult situations. Don’t get me wrong – we all need escape once in a while, and the ability to do so is a privilege. But eudaimonic wellbeing, by contrast, focuses on actions congruent with our values; it is the feeling that our lives are imbued with purpose. Instead of prioritising pleasure, it emphasises personal growth, self acceptance, and connection to meaning. It is linked to improved sleep, longer lifespan and lower levels of inflammation. All the good stuff we’re looking for, right? Eudaimonic wellbeing focuses on actions congruent with our values Cultivating eudaimonic wellbeing isn’t straightforward. It looks different for everyone because achieving it depends on our personal beliefs and values. For some people, it means letting go of fitness goals and spending weekends volunteering. For others, it may mean switching to a career aligned with their values. But what is similar for most individuals is that each person is doing what matters to them and understands the meaning beneath how they spend their time. Far more than any wellness retreat, this is real self-­care. The million-­dollar question, of course, is how do we distinguish real self-­care – the practices that lead us to eudaimonic wellbeing – from the coping mechanisms of faux self-­care. At its core, real self-­care is ultimately about decision-­making. You must be assertive in prioritising your own needs and desires. To do that, you must learn to say no and to set boundaries. Balancing the needs of people close to you, like your partner’s preference or your children’s needs, with your own. You must learn to stop being controlled by feelings of guilt, which are inevitable. The next step is to look honestly at what you need (and what you want) and give yourself permission to have it. It’s a process of getting to know yourself, including your core values, beliefs and desires. It’s an internal decision-­making process that requires introspection, honesty and perseverance. You’ll know you’re practising real self-­care when it feels like your outsides are matching your insides. Everything appeared to have fallen into place for his opponent Kemal Kilicdaroglu to win. But incomplete results put him behind the president in the first round. And Mr Erdogan's alliance could also be heading for a majority in parliament. For months, Turkey's disparate opposition parties had pooled their resources in a bid to bring an end to a president who has extended his power dramatically since a failed coup against him in 2016. The election is being watched very closely in the West, because Mr Kilicdaroglu has promised to revive Turkish democracy as well as relations with its Nato allies. On the other hand, President Erdogan's Islamist-rooted government has accused the West of plotting to bring him down. In the early hours of Monday, Mr Kilicdaroglu stood on a stage at his party headquarters in Ankara, flanked by his allies but appearing less confident than before. "If our nation says second round, we will absolutely win in the second round," he said. In the event of a force majeure (e.g. natural disaster), the prayer may be delayed to the 11th of Dhu al-Hijjah and then to the 12th of Dhu al-Hijjah.[24] Eid prayers must be offered in congregation. Participation of women in the prayer congregation varies from community to community.[25] It consists of two rakats (units) with seven takbirs in the first Raka'ah and five Takbirs in the second Raka'ah. For Shia Muslims, Salat al-Eid differs from the five daily canonical prayers in that no adhan (call to prayer) or iqama (call) is pronounced for the two Eid prayers.[26][27] The salat (prayer) is then followed by the khutbah, or sermon, by the Imam.[28] At the conclusion of the prayers and sermon, Muslims embrace and exchange greetings with one another (Eid Mubarak), give gifts and visit one another. The family retains one-third of the share; another third is given to relatives, friends, and neighbors; and the remaining third is given to the poor and needy.[32] Muslims wear their new or best clothes. People cook special sweets, including ma'amoul (filled shortbread cookies) and samosas. The lunar calendar is approximately eleven days shorter than the solar calendar.[35] Each year, Eid al-Adha (like other Islamic holidays) falls on one of about two to four Gregorian dates in parts of the world, because the boundary of crescent visibility is different from the International Date Line.[36] The following list shows the official dates of Eid al-Adha for Saudi Arabia as announced by the Supreme Judicial Council. Tom’s Guide(opens in new tab) reports that during the launch of the new handheld from Asus, the ROG Ally, Roanne Sones, head of Xbox devices at Microsoft, dropped a pretty heavy hint that Quick Resume could be coming for PC gamers at some point. For the uninitiated, Quick Resume is a seriously cool Xbox feature that lets you jump straight into a game without having to go through loading up, navigating the main menu and so on. You can freeze multiple (supported) games (up to five of them) at the exact point you leave them, to resume any of them in the blink of an eye. And that’d be a boon for all PC gamers, especially for those interested in handhelds like the Asus ROG Ally, to avoid faffing about with the clunkier bits of the Windows 11 interface (which mar the Ally experience) and loading games. More broadly, we recently heard news that Microsoft is mulling over a ‘handheld mode’ for Windows 11 that would retool the desktop entirely to be more suitable for portable gaming on a small touchscreen, taking the tack of a greatly simplified launcher-style UI. That would be ideal for the ROG Ally and other handheld gaming devices (even the Steam Deck, on which you can run Windows 11 if you like). For us, Sones comments here definitely add weight to the prospect that this is something Microsoft is serious about. And given the po[CENSORED]rity of the Steam Deck, and interest in alternatives like the ROG Ally in general, that heightens the chances that we might see this handheld mode realized as another string to the gamer’s bow in Windows 11. CPUS (Image credit: Shutterstock (721076332)) As spotted by Linux publication Phoronix(opens in new tab), Intel released CPU microcode updates for processors all the way back to Coffee Lake on Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, the changelog doesn't delve into details other than that the new microcode fixes an undisclosed security issue. The security issue didn't make the list on Patch Tuesday, a colloquial term referring to companies that released patches on the second Tuesday of each month. Furthermore, Phoronix noted that there hadn't been any mentions of a CPU microcode update or any new Intel Security Advisory for the month. Security Advisories are fixes for vulnerabilities that Intel has discovered affecting its products. Given the sudden CPU microcode release, it's safe to assume that the security vulnerability is likely a new one that Intel hasn't publicly communicated yet. Whatever the security vulnerability may be, it evidently affects many of Intel's platforms, including the latest consumer Intel 13th Generation Core Raptor Lake and 4th Generation Xeon Sapphire Rapids server chips. However, it's the first time that recent lineups, such as Alder Lake-N and Atom C series (Arizona Beach), received a microcode update. The lengthy list includes desktop processors dating as far back as the Coffee Lake days and mobile chips starting from Kaby Lake going forward. Without proper documentation, we cannot assess the scope of the security issue. Intel's list only mentions the platforms that will receive the new microcode. It doesn't expressly state whether the issue only impacts the platforms mentioned in the list or if legacy processors before Coffee Lake are also susceptible. Motherboard vendors typically include new microcode in their firmware updates. However, unless it's a pressing issue, sometimes it takes a bit when manufacturers release new firmware. Occasionally, it's faster for chipmakers to push the microcode update through a Windows update. However, this medium type has disadvantages since it doesn't alter the hardware or the firmware. Instead, the operating system must load the microcode during each restart. In the meantime, the new CPU microcode update has already arrived on Linux, and Phoronix is already conducting tests to measure the performance impact on Intel's mobile Alder Lake-P and desktop Raptor Lake processors. Instead, you'll find Lightroots down below. Here's the important tidbit: Shrine locations correspond to Lightroot locations - they're basically mirror versions. As such, if you see a Shrine named "Gatakis" on the Surface, you can open the Depths map to see the "Sikatag" Lightroot below it. The same is also true if you find a Lightroot first. For instance, if you have to cross a gap, you might think that the only way is to glide, grab onto a ledge, then climb up, all while eating stamina food in the process. Bring out those Zonai Devices when needed - There are times when you'd see Zonai Devices lying around. In others, you might even pick them up while they're still in containers. Try to make the most out of them. You've got everything from Zonai Fans that blow gusts of wind, Flame Emitters that cast jets of fire, Hover Blocks that can be suspended in mid-air, Stakes that can be driven into walls, and so on. Upgrade your Energy Cell or use Batteries - While Zonai Devices are being powered, Link's Energy Cell will slowly get drained. You could always find the resources to upgrade its capacity. Alternatively, just attach a Battery or Big Battery to keep that contraption running. Ready a Hot Air Balloon so you can glide to distant locations. Survival and inventory items Pick/respec hearts or stamina - Most of the Blessings of Light that you obtain will come from Shrines, though there are other sources which we won't spoil here. You'll then need to talk to a Goddess Statue, such as the one in Lookout Landing, your main hub in Hyrule. You can exchange four Blessings of Light for either one heart or one stamina segment. You may also respec from hearts to stamina, or vice versa, depending on your needs. Increase your inventory slots via Korok Seeds - You have very limited inventory space for your melee weapons, bows, and shields. However, the Korok Seeds that you've found can be traded to Hestu. You'll then be able to choose which inventory type gets another slot. Cook food for buffs - Ideally, you'll want to cook ingredients in a pot, as opposed to an open fire, as the former will let you turn the combined ingredients into a meal. Try to bring meals that aid you in a given situation, such as attack-boosters when you're about to fight a boss, or meals that use Spicy Pepper as an ingredient if you're heading to snowy regions. Farm ingredients and materials using the Purah Pad Sensor - Since we've talked about food, now would be a great time to mention that you'll likely farm ingredients. To make the process easier, get the Purah Pad Camera and Sensor+ upgrades. You'll be able to take a picture of a particular plant, ingredient, or material, so you can track it later. Combat Managing weapon degradation via the Fuse system - Yes, weapon degradation can be annoying, but there's really not a lot we could do about it. Thankfully, the Fuse system can alleviate this issue. Basically, some items have a "Fuse attack power," which essentially denotes their DPS. You can then Fuse these items (or even actual weapons) onto your weapons. As such, even a weak club or stick can be viable, especially if it has a Fused material with decent DPS. Needless to say, you'll see a few of these much later in the campaign. They do high damage, but you'll be affected by Gloom with each strike. This debuff locks out your heart, preventing it from being healed (sort of like lowering your max HP). But, if the Gloom weapon is the one that's being Fused onto an equipped armament, that debuff itself is negated. Sneakstrikes, parries, and Flurry Rush - There are many concepts to learn as you're fighting foes in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Even better, this will often cause your foe to get disarmed. With the Fuse mechanic in mind, you can quickly Fuse their previously weapon and smack them around with it. Attach materials to your arrows - Instead of just firing a boring ol' arrow, you can attach various materials. Some examples include Keese Eyeballs, which will home in on your target, Fire/Ice/Shock Fruits, which have their own elemental effects, and even some monster body parts, which tend to do decent damage. Slow down time by aiming while in mid-air - If you draw your bow while in mid-air, Link will slow down time (though stamina will gradually get depleted). This, however, allows you to do accurate headshots, often stunning the enemy. This can be used in conjunction with various Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom tips and tricks. It looks like the Federal Aviation Administration might have to do the same thing: YouTuber Trevor Jacob recently pleaded guilty to obstructing a federal investigation by hiding evidence that he intentionally crashed his plane in a video made as part of a sponsorship deal to promote a wallet. The whole sordid, stupid story began in November 2021, when Jacob took his single-engine private plane out, purportedly so he could spread the ashes of his best friend over the Sierra Nevada mountains. Midway through the flight, however, his engine suddenly went dead! Cursing his misfortune, he bailed out of his stricken craft, leaving it to crash into the Los Padres National Forest in Southern California, while he was forced to trek long miles through the rugged, mountainous landscape after touching down, before being rescued by a passerby. That might have been the end of it, except for the fact that Jacob tried to cover the whole thing up. Instead of immediately seeking help after reaching the ground, according to a new Guardian(opens in new tab) report, he hiked to the crash site and took the video from the cameras he'd installed on the plane. He reported the crash to the National Transportation Safety Board two days after it happened, but claimed he didn't know where the wreckage was; shortly after that, he and a friend recovered the plane, towed it to a hangar, and over the course of several days destroyed sections of the plane and stuffed the parts in trash cans in and around the airport, like some kind of serial killer leaving body parts in dumpsters. But it turns out that lying to investigators and destroying evidence in a federal investigation is actually a pretty big deal. Following an investigation by the Department of Transport, with "substantial assistance" from the NTSB and FAA—who apparently didn't buy his story for a hot second—Jacob copped to everything in a plea deal with the US Department of Justice(opens in new tab), and now he's facing up to 20 years in prison on one count of destruction and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation. The PTI chief, in his first detailed interview to Sky News after being bailed out of custody, said: "The way they manhandled and beat everyone and arrested me was unsettling and shocking." Khan expressed dismay at the brutal treatment meted out to him by everyone involved and the way excessive force was used for his "illegal" apprehension, which left a lasting impression on him. Recounting the day he was taken into custody, he recalled a moment of confusion and said: "Some individuals resembling commandos suddenly appeared at the time of his arrest. I thought they came for my security." However, former premier added, he soon realised that they were after him. Despite the challenges, Khan said he has displayed unwavering determination and readiness to face imprisonment once again. "I am ready to go to jail again," he maintained. 'Democracy at an all-time low' The former prime minister — who was ousted of office following a no-confidence motion in April last year — expressed concern over rights violation in Pakistan following arrest earlier this week lamenting that democracy in the country is at "an all-time low". "Democracy is at an all-time low. The only hope we have is the judiciary," he said, after receiving respite from the courts. He reprised his faith in the judiciary and deemed it the "only hope" in restoring the rights and freedoms of the people. Khan said that it was due to the threats to his life that a judge previously issued orders for his protection. The "shocking and abrupt" nature of the incident, he recalled, left him momentarily believing that there was some terrorist in the room only to realise that he himself was the target. The PTI chairman also spoke about the violation of fundamental rights in the country, which he claimed had reached unprecedented levels. "The first time they showed me an arrest warrant was inside the jail. It happens in the law of the jungle," the PTI chairman said, narrating his experience of receiving a heavy hand of the authorities, with his house being raided twice by the police, even breaking down of his residence's doors at one instance. During the raid, he said, his wife was alone in the house terming it an alarming and unprecedented situation for him. The former premier mentioned that approximately 150 cases had been filed against — an unprecedented number of cases that no other politicians of the country has been slapped with. Khan also accused the government of fearing elections, as, according to him, they [the ruling coalition] believed facing a significant defeat in the elections. "The government is petrified of elections and they fear being wiped out by the PTI in the polls," he said. Revealing the extent of the political climate's hostility, Khan claimed that the ruling coalition was only willing to hold elections if he was incarcerated or killed. The PTI chief said that there had been two assassination attempts on his life, raising concerns about his safety and security. Droughts in continental Europe are a possible cause for sightings of a Mediterranean bird in Britain and Ireland, say ornithologists. Black-crowned night herons have been spotted on Scotland's remote St Kilda archipelago, as well as County Wexford in Ireland and Dorset in England. The British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) said the numbers were potentially unprecedented but not unexpected. It said warmer climate species have been appearing for a number of years. A BTO spokesman said climate change had created a "push and pull situation". Hotter conditions have made it tougher for some species in their native territories, while warmer weather in the UK and Ireland has made it easier for the birds to establish themselves there. BTO said some Mediterranean birds, such as little egret, were now breeding in parts of the UK. The Scottish Ornithologists' Club has said there could be a total of eight black-crowned herons in Scotland. It said the highest previous number was 12 in 1987. The birds are native to temperate and tropical regions of the world. In Europe, they are found in Mediterranean areas but also Germany, Poland and Czech Republic. BirdGuides said severe drought conditions in Spain and southern France could be possibly behind the recent influx. It has received reports of the herons from Scotland, England and Ireland, including seven at Drinagh in County Wexford and two at Iford in Dorset. A lightweight European-only spec of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R has set the record for the fastest front-wheel-drive production car at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Honda says the special CTR—called the Type R S—circled the 12.94-mile course in 7:44.881, beating the 2019 Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy-R's time of 7:45.399. The record-setting Civic Type R S wore a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 track tires, which on European models have to be ordered directly through Michelin. CLARIFICATION 4/21/2023: We've updated this story to clarify that the Honda Civic Type R that set the front-drive record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife is a lightweight model called the Type R S that will only be sold in left-hand-drive European markets. Regular versions of the Euro-spec CTR feature a 325-hp 2.0-liter turbo four, whereas U.S. models are rated at 315 horses. The new Honda Civic Type R is a front-wheel-drive beast. We've known this for awhile, and now the rest of the world is reminded of its greatness as Honda has announced it's the fastest front-drive production car to lap the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife. The track-focused hatchback circled the 12.94-mile track in 7:44.881. That time beats the previous FWD record of 7:45.399, which was set by a 2019 Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy-R. However, the record-setting CTR isn't the same one sold in America. It's actually a lighter version called the Type R S, which will only be sold in left-hand-drive European markets. In a nutshell, the people who operate the track have started regulating lap times, which includes new rules about where a lap starts and finishes. Previously, the Nordschleife's was 12.8 miles from beginning to end, but now it's 12.94 miles. The added 0.14 mile and official timekeeping obviously means lap times set before the 2019 rule changes can't be directly compared to those that came after. So, no, the new CTR's time isn't slower than its predecessor. Tupperware, the US maker of food storage containers, has warned it could fail unless it urgently raises new sources of funding. The 77-year-old company announced in a statement that there are "substantial doubts" about its ability to continue as a business. Tupperware has tried to reposition itself to appeal to a younger audience, but has been unable to stem its declining sales. On Monday, the company's share price saw a nearly 50% drop before recovering slightly on Tuesday. The "Tupperware parties" The company became known in the 1950s and 1960s for so-called "Tupperware parties" held at private homes to sell the famous plastic food storage containers. Tupperware still uses a direct trade workforce - where companies People earn a percentage of all the containers they sell-in addition to selling products on their website. It recently began selling its products at US retail chain Target as well, seeking to attract younger shoppers and other similar retailers around the world. In addition, it has expanded its product range into kitchen utensils, designing items such as a microwaveable grill. Khan was whisked away by paramilitary Rangers from the judicial complex in Islamabad on the instructions of Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) after the ex-premier arrived at the court for appearance in two different cases, Arab media reported. The arrest sparked violent protests by supporters of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party across the country, many of whom stormed government buildings, including the official residence of a top army general, and set public property on fire, demanding his release. Khan’s legal team also questioned the legality of the proceedings against him as they decided to challenge them before the superior judiciary. “He was kept in the dark; dark means (that he had) no television,” Babar Awan, a senior Khan counsel, told Arab News, describing the ex-premier’s situation in captivity. “When I spoke to him, he said ‘I will not ask for any facility’.” Khan was different from leaders of other political parties who asked for amenities to make life comfortable under similar circumstances, Awan said. He said the “interrogation was exclusively conducted by NAB,” adding that there was nothing to ask, though, since all the institutions Khan built, including the Shaukat Khanum Hospital and Al-Qadir University, had not been his personal ventures. Awan maintained all these institutions had their independent boards, and Khan could neither influence or appoint anyone nor utilize any funds raised in their name. “Not even a penny goes into his pocket,” he said. Khan in January admitted to investing around $3 million Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust (SKMT) funds in a private housing project, though he said the money was later returned. Asked if the PTI could be proscribed after the violent protests that followed its leader’s arrest, he dismissed the notion. “This is not the job of the government,” he said. “It is the job of the Supreme Court and it is written in the Constitution.” Awan contended the top court was aware of its responsibilities and it had already said that it “wanted to see Imran Khan in mainstream politics.” Khan’s counsel, however, was non-committal, when asked if the ex-premier would cooperate with the authorities if they summoned him to probe corruption allegations. It should be them who should cooperate with his client instead, he added. “They say they can’t control [people],” he said. “Enable him [Khan] to control [them]. Don’t make more cases.
