Hyundai sold just under 4 million vehicles in 2022, but big changes are looming as the parent company aims high in the EV world. Hyundai wants to be a "top three EV manufacturer" in 2030, but exactly how the company is defining that list is vague. What we can say is that if the Hyundai Motor Group wants to sell 3.6 million EVs in 2030, it's going to have to put in the work. The competition will not be resting. The Hyundai Motor Group wants to move on up in the world. The Korean company is objectively winning the "How 'bout these cool electric vehicles?" challenge all the automakers are playing these days, but it wants more. Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) announced earlier this month that it wants to be a "Top 3 EV manufacturer" by 2030. Exactly what that means is a bit difficult to define, and even Hyundai isn't willing to say publicly which companies it is targeting. Tesla is obviously the world's number-one EV company, but they're not alone. Will Hyundai include China-only domestic brands, especially companies like the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC Motors) that sell their fair share of city EVs? Or does Hyundai want to be considered in the top three, no matter which companies you look at? Who Even Are the Top Three? We asked whom Hyundai considers its competition here, but a HMG spokesperson told Car and Driver, "We do not comment on other automakers." The spokesperson did say that the company will measure the "global top three" EV sales company goal as including both passenger cars and commercial vehicles from HMG's three brands: Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis. HMG will offer more than 30 EV models in 2030. So, instead, let's look at the overall EV sales numbers. To put them in perspective and appreciate the magnitude of Hyundai's plans, let's take stock of where things are today. Globally, sales of plug-in vehicles dramatically increased in 2021, with total sales of EVs and PHEVs roughly doubling from their 2020 numbers. Despite the start of the pandemic, annual EV sales in 2020 were relatively stable compared with the preceding years, according to International Energy Agency data. Roughly 2.7 million EVs were sold in China in 2021, almost half a million in the U.S., and 1.2 million in Europe. Hyundai's spokesperson told us that HMG plans to produce and sell 3.6 million EVs around the world in 2030. The Hyundai brand sold 3.9 million vehicles, of all powertrain types, in 2022 and expects to sell 4.3 million vehicles in 2023. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a43675132/hyundai-targets-top-3-of-ev-makers/

Najam Sethi speaks during a press conference — PCB The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Najam Sethi, will reportedly demand a written guarantee from BCCI president Jay Shah that the Indian team will participate in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan before committing to Pakistan's national team playing its ODI World Cup games in India later this year. The BCCI has chosen Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata as possible venues for the 2023 World Cup, which will be played from October 5, according to the Press Trust of India. However, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), under the chairmanship of Jay Shah, has not confirmed the proposed 'Hybrid Model' for the upcoming Asia Cup, which would see India play its matches in the UAE and Pakistan play their games in Pakistan. As a result, Sethi has reportedly been advised to take a tough stance on the issue. According to a reliable source, Sethi is scheduled to leave for Dubai on May 8, where he will hold meetings with the ACC and International Cricket Council officials. During his Dubai visit, Sethi is expected to lobby for Pakistan's stance that it will not play its World Cup matches in India unless the BCCI and ICC guarantee that India will come to Pakistan to play in the 2025 Champions Trophy. The source added that Sethi has received tacit approval from government officials to convey a strong and blunt stance to the ACC members about hosting the Asia Cup in September. The PCB is proposing a hybrid model plan for the ACC, which would see the Asia Cup played in Lahore and Dubai. Sethi reportedly plans to make it clear to the ACC members that either they accept Pakistan's hybrid proposal or the PCB will not take part in the competition this year if it is moved from Pakistan. Sethi is apparently not willing to accept any more delays from the ACC on the finalisation of venues and schedules for the Asia Cup. The source claimed that Sethi is clear that if there are no Asia Cup matches in Pakistan, there will be no Pakistan team in the Asia Cup. Sethi's visit to Dubai is seen as a crucial move to secure Pakistan's interests in the upcoming cricket events. https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/1067902-pakistan-seeks-guarantee-for-indian-teams-participation-in-2025-champions-trophy

What is the worst thing anyone’s said to you? “You look like a fat Jack Whitehall.” What do you owe your parents? Everything and nothing. What is the worst job you’ve done? It’s also one of the best jobs I’ve done, but two hours in, when everyone’s pissed and ignoring you, hosting the Brit awards can be a tough gig. If you could edit your past, what would you change? All of my hairstyles from the age of 16 to 25. What do you consider your greatest achievement? Tricking my dad into doing naked yoga. What keeps you awake at night? Mainly my devil dog. What is the most important lesson life has taught you? Don’t make jokes at the expense of Little Mix. They have an ardent fanbase. What happens when we die? I want to come back as a ghost and torment my enemies. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2023/apr/29/jack-whitehall-interview

PMLN to contest for all Punjab Assembly seats.—AFP/file ISLAMABAD: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will contest the next general elections independently, without going into any electoral alliance, and the polls will be held strictly according to the Constitution on the completion of the mandated period of the National Assembly. The PMLN will kick-start its countrywide election campaign from May 28, on Youm-e-Takbeer, when PMLN Quaid and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif went for the detonation of six nuclear devices on this day against India’s five. Nawaz Sharif will deliver a historic message on the day that would be heard and shown across the country. The decision has been taken in an important meeting between visiting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif with his elder brother and party Quaid Nawaz Sharif in London. Nawaz Sharif has eulogized the alliance of ruling parties in upholding the supremacy of parliament and impressed upon the prime minister to stand by the policy and no compromise should be permitted on this count. He has asked for holding elections in the country on the same day under caretaker governments. Nawaz Sharif appreciated the view of the ruling alliance on the question of opposing polls in any province before the general elections. He termed it against the spirit of the Constitution that ensures free and fair polls. Well-placed political sources told The News here Saturday that the two leaders extensively discussed the economic and political situation in the country, especially price-hike and judicial matters. The sources said that Prime Minister Shehbaz, who is also the President of the PMLN, would chair a high-echelon meeting of the party tomorrow where all stalwarts, including Party’s Chief Organiser and Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif, will be in attendance. He will take the party leadership in confidence on discussions with Nawaz Sharif. The sources said that Nawaz Sharif has asked Shehbaz to keep him posted about the party’s activities in the wake of preparations for the polls. He has asked people should be provided relief and there should be reduction in the price of petrol and diesel. The sources said that Prime Minister Shehbaz briefed the party Quaid about the legislation being done in the parliament. He asked that the ministers should enhance their coordination with workers and masses. The sources said that two Sharifs also discussed the plan for return of Nawaz Sharif and accordingly Shehbaz will discuss the subject with party leadership. Shehbaz Sharif is leaving London today (Sunday) for back home, the sources added. https://www.thenews.com.pk/print/1067894-pmln-will-contest-general-polls-without-alliance

Social networks have become a fundamental space, not only for people, but also for pets. It is increasingly po[CENSORED]r to find dogs and cats that share their experiences, learning and advice through digital platforms. These pets are known as "petinfluencers" and, just like people, they can make huge profits with their content. The rise of “petinfluencers” began in 2015 and 2016, when social media became a po[CENSORED]r platform for pet owners to share photos and videos of their furry friends. Over time, brands began to realize that they could use these charismatic animals to promote their products and reach a broader audience. Just like human influencers, today you can find “petinfluencers” for wellness, travel, pet-friendly places, events, lifestyle, food, among others. According to Sara Ceballos, business administrator and co-founder of ¡Bru! Pet Marketing, a marketing agency specialized in pets, this type of social network profiles are increasingly po[CENSORED]r because they provide the audience with entertaining and valuable content. "For example, we found profiles like Lau Vet's that generate highly educational content, but also pet profiles like Manchitas El Pinscher or Bruno Blogger Collie, who share entertaining but also educational content that generates a lot of interaction," Sarah assures. Former diplomats and foreign policy experts say Pakistan’s decision to attend the SCO summit in Goa was correct By Zebunnisa BurkiMay 06, 2023 Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari addressing a press conference in Goa, India, on May 5, 2023, in this still taken from a video. — YouTube/PTVNewsLive Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari addressing a press conference in Goa, India, on May 5, 2023, in this still taken from a video. — YouTube/PTVNewsLive KARACHI: Pakistan’s decision to attend the SCO summit in Goa was correct, this was not a bilateral visit, and India clearly stuck to its familiar script regarding Pakistan, say former diplomats and foreign policy experts. In a comment to The News, former diplomat Salman Bashir who has also served as Pakistan’s high commissioner to India, says that the decision to attend the SCO meet was the correct one: “ I think we made our point of being present at an important SCO event. The Pakistan delegation did its job and should be returning satisfied.” Former ambassador Javid Husain, who has served in China in the 80s, explains: “FM Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s visit to Goa was primarily to attend the meeting of SCO foreign ministers. It enabled our foreign minister to put across Pakistan’s point of view on issues of security, development, regional connectivity, CPEC, Afghanistan, climate change, Kashmir and terrorism during the conference deliberations, media comments, and meetings.” He adds that the foreign minister’s visit “highlighted the high importance attached by Pakistan to the SCO.” Director Programs at Jinnah Institute Salman Zaidi, whose work has focused on Track 2 diplomacy, agrees on the clarity of vision that led Pakistan to attend the SCO summit, saying that “Pakistan must never give up platforms to which it is a member, and it is to the credit of our foreign policy establishment that a decision was taken to attend the SCO summit, despite the known challenges.” Pakistan’s presence at the summit also speaks to changing geopolitical realities and the visit to Goa is -- in a larger context -- of benefit to Pakistan. This is something Zaidi too points to in his remarks to The News: “global leaderships are adapting to rapid geopolitical changes. Not only should Pakistan’s presence be marked at such forums, it also stands to gain from diplomatic opportunities to address challenges and leverage its strategic advantages.” Pakistan’s former representative to the UN and twice ambassador to the US Dr Maleeha Lodhi says that there were no surprises in the SCO visit by Pakistan: “The visit went according to the script. No surprises. Both countries reiterated their positions and that meant [that], far from the ice melting between the two countries, the atmosphere was further vitiated -- ruling out any forward movement in their troubled relations.” Dr Lodhi may be pointing to the way India sought to respond to Pakistan right after the SCO summit -- Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar choosing to lash out at Pakistan and its foreign minister. Speaking to Indian media at a press conference held after the end of the summit, the Indian minister called Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari “a promoter, justifier, and I’m sorry to say, spokesperson of a terrorism industry which is the mainstay of Pakistan”. Salman Bashir says that “Jaishankar’s rhetoric against Pakistan was really not called for. But that is usual in such situations... I think the main thing is that the Indians are not prepared to engage with Pakistan at this point. And that is fine by us, I suppose.” This is not an isolated view. Javid Husain too feels that “No breakthrough in India-Pakistan relations was expected -- and none took place.” He says that the comments by Jaishankar “clearly showed India’s intransigence and its refusal to create a climate conducive to putting Pakistan-India relations on a positive trajectory. Apparently India is determined to exploit Pakistan’s current political instability and economic weakness to further its anti-Pakistan and hegemonic designs in the region. [Jaishankar] also underscored New Delhi’s refusal to show any flexibility on the Kashmir issue which is an indispensable condition for its peaceful settlement.” Calling the Indian behaviour “unfortunate”, Salman Zaidi is of the opinion that despite the “expected vitriol from Indian officials” Pakistan can still “claim its rightful stake on foreign affairs, especially regional issues”. To him, “India’s posture on Pakistan is not unexpected. The talking points are familiar, and the tired script on terrorism has once again been put to creative use. FM Jaishankar reserved his choicest vitriol for Pakistan, which will not suit the top diplomat of any host country, but Jaishankar is more ideologically committed to anti-Pakistan rhetoric than any of his predecessors.” For Mosharraf Zaidi, political analyst and foreign policy commentator, “It was an excellent visit. It helped prompt a diatribe by the Indian foreign minister -- exposing India’s inability to rise to the occasion and engage w multilateral fora at the level expected of a regional power.” Salman Zaidi agrees, adding that “the Indians are out of ideas on how to deal with Pakistan or Kashmir, much as they would like to emphasize neither issue is relevant. In a tweet, former diplomat Abdul Basit, who has also served as Pakistan’s high commissioner to India, says he is impressed by Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s interview to Indian Today’s Rajdeep Sardesai, and that the foreign minister “was particularly superb on Kashmir. Glad he also raised [the issues of] Kulbhushan Jhadav and Samjhota Express blast. The way Jaishankar reacted in his press conference only reflected his hubris and frustration.” Tweeting about the goings-on in Goa South Asia Institute Director at The Wilson Center Michael Kugelman sums up the Pakistani foreign minister’s SCO sojourn: “There was much criticism of the Pakistan FM’s visit to India for SCO, but he appears to have accomplished what Islamabad sought: Participation in the SCO deliberations, and separate sideline meetings with all SCO members except India. Multilateral engagement [with bilaterals] on the side. “There is a word of caution here though by Ambassador Javid Husain who feels that: “The moral is that Pakistan must stabilize itself politically and strengthen itself economically and technologically to be able to play a more effective role in the management of its foreign affairs.” https://www.thenews.com.pk/print/1067564-diplomats-say-pakistan-delegation-did-its-job-at-sco-moot

In the Italian talent show Lo show dei record, broadcast from Milan and presented by Gerry Scotti, where the pocket chihuahua, Pearl, was presented in society as a candidate for the Guinness record for the smallest dog in the world, Vanessa Semler, its owner, He said of her that she was "a bit of a diva." Pearl appeared onstage in a lavish Easter egg and seemed delighted to be the center of attention, for unlike most Chihuahuas, whose temperament tends to be nervous, she was calm despite the applause. , the cheers and the spotlights. Semler also said that Pearl only ate high-quality foods, such as chicken and salmon, and that she had just enjoyed "a morning of shopping" in the city of Milan with her owner. On April 9, Pearl officially took the Guinness record. The dog, a female raised in Orlando, Florida (USA) and born on September 1, 2020, measures 9.14 centimeters in height and 12.7 centimeters in length (approximately the length of a US dollar bill). . She weighs just 553 grams, although at birth she weighed just 28. Pearl comes from a long line of winners, being the niece of a previous winner of the same title, Miracle Milly (9.65cm), who passed away in 2020, before that Pearl was born. Pearl is the daughter of one of Milly's sisters. Micracle Milly, who broke the record in 2013, was cloned as many as 49 times at a controversial biotechnical research foundation in Seoul, South Korea, which offers to "heal the broken hearts" of deceased animal owners and "prolong life." company of the dogs, bringing back the memories with our best friends”. As Semler revealed in comments collected by The Telegraph in 2018: “Miracle Millie was chosen for being the smallest dog in the world. The original idea was to make ten clones in total, nine for research and one for us, but they decided to clone her more times. They want to find out why she is so small and then study her genes to find out what makes her so small. It's amazing to be around all the clones of her, they are so smart, very playful like Milly and have very similar personalities." https://elpais.com/estilo-de-vida/2023-04-12/pearl-una-chihuahua-de-914-centimetros-es-el-perro-mas-pequeno-del-mundo-segun-el-libro-guinness-de-los-records.html

You can argue that any and all of the freshly launched models from Build Your Dreams (BYD) is the most important in establishing the brand in Europe, but the Seal is a direct rival to the Tesla Model 3 and, in EV terms, that is Guy Fawkes levels of ambition. Mind you, let’s remind ourselves that BYD is new to us, but it’s not to many. This is a huge company employing some 600,000 people across six continents, and which – amongst the solar panels, cars, trains, buses and more - provides the batteries for roughly one in five mobile phones around the globe. Plus, it can manufacture everything in-house from the cobalt free, lithium-iron phosphate LFP ‘Blade’ battery to the touchscreens, semiconductors, seat upholstery and more. BYD is not the work experience kid, here. The Seal may be the most important model so far, then, and it also looks to be the best. From styling that gives this 4.8-metre long saloon unmissable hints of Porsche Taycan with a dash of Genesis GV60, to an interior that looks and feels smart, tactile and cosseting in a way that the more sparse-feeling Model 3 falls short of (albeit a way off the classiness of the BMW i4’s cabin), the Seal has the aura of a car that’s been designed from the off to be a European big-hitter. Set to arrive in the UK from autumn this year, the Seal sits on the company’s e-Platform 3.0 and will have the option of a 308bhp single motor rear-wheel drive model, or a 523bhp all-wheel drive variant. Both are complete with an 82kWh battery that’s good for WLTP range of 354 and 323 miles respectively. Prices aren’t confirmed, but the Seal will be priced keenly against core rivals, so expect it to cost from around £41,000 for the single-motor model and £47,000 for the dual-motor. We had a brief drive on track in the Chinese market versions of both variants, which are likely to arrive in Europe with minimal changes. This is fine by us as it doesn’t feel like there are many tweaks needed, to be honest. Naturally, you can scorch about doing comical sub-4.0sec launches all day long in the dual-motor model if you wish to, but the more important thing is that the throttle response is also easy to modulate, the refinement hard to fault and there’s even some satisfaction in the handling if you make the effort to look for it. The steering weights up quite noticeably in Sport mode and gives you enough confidence that you can enjoy the savage way the Seal dispatches rapid direction changes, keeping its body neatly tied down as you do. There’s an effortlessness to it that’s both impressive and a touch disappointing if you were hoping for any characterful scrappiness or chassis nuance. Certainly, the BMW i4 or Polestar 2 are more fun, but the Seal still feels sophisticated and capable. The single-motor version is a touch lighter and more playful, which isn’t all that surprising given the blunt, drag-race attitude that tends to dominate most potent, all-wheel drive EVs. Ride comfort is hard to comment on given the test track conditions, but the Seal has impressive torsional rigidity, so we’re tentatively optimistic. The AWD model also rides on active dampers, but we’ll have to wait until we’ve had more time with the car to pass judgement on whether the lighter, passively sprung RWD or heavier, AWD car will deal better with British roads. Our biggest quibble is that the brake response feels inconsistent as the regen’ gave way to friction brakes in heavier stopping, so there could definitely be better pedal feel and modulation here. The Seal has the tech you expect, too, courtesy of a 15.6-inch touchscreen, plus a full suite of adaptive driver systems including lane-change assist, vehicle-to-load charging and a standard-fit, efficiency-boosting heat-pump. As for practicality, the cabin is light and comfortable with a full-length glass roof and ample occupant space, and while the saloon boot opening is a bit limiting next to hatchback rivals like the Kia EV6, the 402-litre space will be fine for most small families or business users. There’s deep cable storage beneath the boot floor and a 53-litre frunk in the nose of the car. Mind you, charging could be quicker. At 150kW, the BYD is on a par with most VW Group rivals, but the 200kW-plus charging systems in Kia, Hyundai and Tesla put it to shame, and the Tesla Supercharger network remains a key reason why you might send your money West rather than East. Sure, the BYD Seal may have a comedy name and ‘Build Your Dreams’ written across its rump, both of which have something of a teeth-sucking cringiness to British sensibilities that make it easy to dismiss this car. But if you put those sensibilities and any political concerns aside for a moment, and view the Seal dispassionately as simply another contender in the electric executive class?

Babar Azam poses with his awards. — Instagram/babarazam After earning numerous accolades and awards, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam revealed that his next aim is to lead the national side to victory in the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup, scheduled to be played in India later this year. Speaking during an interview conducted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ahead of the fifth One Day International (ODI) match against New Zealand on May 7, the 28-year-old exquisite stroke-maker reflected on his ODI journey. During the interview, he was asked, what goal he had set for himself next. The skipper responded: “Being the captain of a World Cup-winning side would be sweet.” Babar has had an illustrious career since he made his debut for Pakistan in an ODI against Zimbabwe in Lahore almost eight years ago and is one of the most successful batters in recent history. He has been the number-one batter on the ICC ODI rankings since April 2, 2022 and currently holds the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year. He also won the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award — which is his second. Attributing his success and achievement to his hard work, the skipper recalled the moment when he was first called up for the national side. "It was a different feeling altogether. There was some talk about me being selected, but when I got the call, there was a lot of excitement. I was sitting with my family and it made them happy. "When I entered the Gaddafi Stadium as a Pakistan player, I reminisced my journey of how I used to come here as a ball picker and how I had come here before Inzamam-ul-Haq's final Test match, which was against South Africa, as a net bowler," the skipper said. He further said that after he was not selected for the national academy for top performers following his first season as a U15-regional player, he started to set goals for himself. "My first goal was to become a part of it and for that, I worked hard day and night. I used to leave my house for training at 11am and stay in the ground till sunset,” he shared. The road to becoming an international cricketer was full of sacrifices. The Pakistan captain shared how at the poignant moments in his life, he was away from his family and how their support helped him reach the apex level. “I was very close to my paternal uncle and when he passed away, I was on a tour with Pakistan U19 in South Africa. He always used to take care of my bats and repair them for me. "I lost my paternal grandmother when I was playing a match in Islamabad. I could not make in time for the final rituals, as I could not find a bus to Lahore," he shared. He further said that while his journey had its fair share of sacrifices, he was glad for the support his family showed him. "My mother bought me my first-ever cricket bat and gear, and I used that bat for good two to three years. "My dad has been a great influence in my life. He tells me to be never complacent and that keeps me hungry and focused. My brothers always lend me support in tough times.” Babar said it was his three consecutive centuries in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) against the West Indies that turned his career around and gave him confidence. Speaking about the 2016 series, he said though his start to international cricket was a good one as he scored five half-centuries in the first 15 ODIs, he was unable to convert the starts into big scores. He added Mickey Arthur's presence helped him evolve into a reliable stroke-maker. “I want to mention Mickey as he played an integral role in my transformation. As a cricketer, there's a feeling that if you are not up to the mark, you might get dropped from the side, but he gave me confidence. "He asked me to give my best to the side and not worry about getting axed from the side and that helped me a great deal. He did not only do it with me but with every player in the side and that is why we have eight to nine players in the side currently from that lot.” Babar took the reins of the national side in 2019 and the added responsibility has brought the best out of him. While staying at the top of his game, he has also been able to get performances out of the team. At the time of the interview, Babar had the best ODI average of 73.72 for players who have captained their countries in at least 20 ODIs. The mantra behind that is clear communication with players and embracing his responsibility. “The first year was a little overwhelming as there were a lot of things to deal with simultaneously as a Pakistan captain. But, I learned how to manage that. I also learned a lot from how Saifi bhai [Sarfaraz Ahmed] managed the team. I used to see his demeanour on and off the field and used to ask him questions that helped me. “The most crucial bit in leading a team is to provide clarity to each and every player and have honest and open communication with the players. This breeds positivity in the team environment and brings everyone together as a team. As a captain, you have a kind of dual responsibility because as a non-captain, you only focus on your field and batting, but now you also have to run a team. I enjoy taking responsibility and it brings the best out of me.” https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/1067608-video-what-does-babar-azam-want-to-do-next

It is intended to be one more tool to combat the opioid death crisis that is plaguing the United States. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave the green light on Wednesday for the over-the-counter sale of Narcan, the main version of naloxone, an overdose reversal drug. "Today's approval of the over-the-counter naloxone nasal spray will help improve access, increase the number of places where it is available, and help reduce opioid overdose deaths across the country. We encourage the manufacturer to make the accessibility to the product a priority, making it available as soon as possible and at an affordable price," the agency said in a statement. More than 100,000 people die each year in the United States from overdoses, 80,000 of them from opioid use, according to the most recent data from the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), a number that has increased in 850% in two decades. Opioids are compounds that are often prescribed to treat pain. Although highly addictive, they are commonly used, and their use for non-therapeutic purposes is also widespread, due to the feeling of euphoria they cause. As policymakers debate and strategize to curb growing opioid addiction, they are also embracing measures to—as it is called in medical jargon—"harm mitigation."
