  1. Update: We got the full, official preview of The Last of Us Part 1 at Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest alongside the tiniest bit of new detail on the upcoming Last of Us multiplayer game(opens in new tab). Unfortunately, the Summer Game Fest segment didn't give us any more clarity on when we can expect the "in-development" PC version. Given the assurance that Naughty Dog is working on it, It will likely have a faster turn-around than we've seen on ports of Sony exclusives in the past. Original Story: This is a megaton: The Last Of Us, perhaps PlayStation's most iconic modern classic, is coming to PC. This is in the form of the long-rumoured remake of the game (which doesn't really need it, but whatever). The funniest thing is the ridiculous name they've lumbered it with: Thanks to the sequel, the original is now going to be called The Last Of Us Part 1. Okay, ludicrous names aside: This game is a belter. It's inspired by Cormac McCarthy's The Road, and sees the pair Joel and Ellie traversing a dangerous post-apocalyptic United States. Ellie's blood may hold a key to the cure for whatever virus has caused this, and Joel's job is to get her safely to the right people. If you've never played it, I recommend it. The game's announcement has been a bit bungled: It was leaked by Sony's own PlayStation Direct site, and the listing was picked up by ResetEra before it was taken down. God bless the internet! The trailer is still live here for now(opens in new tab)—when it's properly announced, I'll update with that. Most notably, the listing says it's releasing on PS5 on September 2, and is in development for PC. So perhaps don't expect it this year, but that's a statement of intent. The listing says this is "a total overhaul" of the original, "faithfully reproduced but incorporating modernized gameplay, improved controls and expanded accessibility options." It also promises "improved effects and enhanced exploration and combat." The Last of Us was already remastered once, but I guess this is the afterlife for any suitably high-profile and successful game these days. Sony has said that it's going to be making a big push on PC following the success of releases like God of War, and Spider-Man and now this suggest that exciting times are coming indeed Rich is a games journalist with 15 years' experience, beginning his career on Edge magazine before working for a wide range of outlets, including Ars Technica, Eurogamer, GamesRadar+, Gamespot, the Guardian, IGN, the New Statesman, Polygon, and Vice. 3. Under the amused gaze of many tourists, a robot dog wanders the ancient stone alleys of Pompeii's famous archaeological park. Meet Spot, a friendly, yellow-and-black remote-controlled creature with a gangly gait who looks like a dog crossed with an insect—all wrapped up in a robot's body. Spot's current mission at Pompeii is to inspect hard-to-access areas of the sprawling ruins, to collect data and alert his handlers to safety and structural problems. "Particularly underground structures where safety conditions won't allow (staff) to enter, such as in the park's many very narrow and dangerous tunnels," Pompeii's general director, Gabriel Zuchtriegel, told AFP. His purvey includes surveying tunnels dug out in clandestine excavations, which Zuchtriegel said "unfortunately still take place in the area". With its excavated ruins spread out over 44 hectares (109 acres), the archaeological site preserves the remains of the ancient wealthy city south of Naples, buried by ash after the eruption of nearby Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Spot—who weighs 70 kilograms (154 pounds) and is about the size of a Golden Retriever—is controlled remotely with a tablet and better equipped than people to survey certain areas of the park. The robot is made by US company Boston Dynamics, which specializes in robotics, including for the military. The company's website says Spot can be used in industries such as construction, mining and manufacturing, among others, carrying out inspections and capturing data. Controlling Spot this week in Pompeii was Valerio Brunelli, business developer for Leica Geosystem, which makes a 3D flying scanner, resembling a drone, that accompanies the robot in its rounds. Brunelli made Spot bow and wiggle for the crowd. "Spot is an amalgamation of technology that makes it a robot capable of exploring very complicated places, such as those found here," said Brunelli. "It's a leap into the future for a thousand-year-old park". The robot is being used on a trial basis and comes with a $75,000 price tag. Director Zuchtriegel said a decision on whether or not to buy Spot had not yet been made, but that rapid changes in the technology sector made choosing expensive, high-tech purchases difficult. "People are always needed, so there will never be a robot dog to be the guardian inside the Pompeii site. That is not the goal." https://csblackdevil.com/forums/forum/828-software/?do=add
  4. Today at the Financial Analyst Day, AMD revealed new information regarding its Ryzen 7000 CPUs powered by the Zen 4 core architecture. From clocks to performance and IPC uplifts, AMD revealed it all. AMD Ryzen 7000 'Zen 4' Desktop CPUs: Over 5.5 GHz Clocks, 8% IPC Uplift, 15% Single-Threaded Perf & 25% Perf/Watt Improvement AMD unveiled its Ryzen 7000 'Zen 4' Desktop CPU family codenamed Raphael during Computex 2022 but left some key details such as the IPC and performance per watt gains out of their event. Now, this information has been made public and we can talk about the performance & IPC figures presented by the chipmaker. So starting with the most important aspect, we knew from the >15% single-threaded performance number that AMD was betting a lot on increased clocks which will see a major increase over Zen 3 chips. AMD already showcased up to 5.5 GHz clock speeds across multiple threads on a high-end 16-core part with additional leaks stating clocks north of 5.8 GHz. Now, AMD has confirmed that it will indeed hit over 5.5 GHz clocks on its Ryzen 7000 desktop CPUs. On the IPC side, we finally have a figure that ranges between 8-10% but in desktop-specific work-loads, Zen 4 will mostly deliver an 8% improvement. The >15% single-threaded uplift still remains intact and the overall performance per watt has been improved by over 25%. With that, the overall performance improvement over Zen 3 is rated at over 35% (performance measured on a 16-core / 32 thread Ryzen 7000 CPU in Cinebench MT). Another important performance criteria is fulfilled by faster bandwidth and data access that is provided by leveraging the newer DDR5 standard on the AM5 platforms. Some of the key features highlighted for Zen 4 CPUs include: Significant generational performance per watt and frequency improvement 8-10% instructions per clock increase 15% single thread performance gain Up to 125% memory bandwidth per core ISA extension for AI and AVX-512 In terms of ISA extensions, AMD Ryzen 7000 Desktop CPUs with Zen 4 cores will be outfitted with AI & AVX-512 instructions. So overall, you can call this start on the AM5 & SP5 platform as an evolution with the revolution coming in 2024 in the form of Zen 5. With that said, AMD will also have a Ryzen 7000 V-Cache family launching next year which would see similar performance gains as Zen 3 with V-Cache did versus Zen 3. 6. Valve has finally acknowledged the complaints of Team Fortress 2's players. Team Fortress 2 was released in October 2007, and Valve made the game free to play in June 2011, so it might be surprising to learn that people are still playing the game at all. But data from Steam Charts shows that Team Fortress 2 still has tens of thousands of concurrent players. The problem is that not all of those players are living, breathing humans sitting in front of a monitor. Team Fortress 2 has a botting problem bad enough that its Wikipedia page has been updated to cite "a spike in activity for these bot accounts" that have been "forcibly crashing servers, spamming copypastas in the text chats of matches, assuming other players' usernames," and using aimbots to automatically headshot actual players as soon as they spawn in to a match. Players allege that complaints about this problem have fallen on deaf ears, so on May 24, a group of Team Fortress 2 content creators announced their plans for "a peaceful TF2 protest." That was enough to get Valve's attention. The company tweeted the following on May 26: Valve hasn't explained how exactly it plans to address the Team Fortress 2 community's concerns, however, so it's unclear how effective the #SaveTF2 protest actually was. Prompting actual change for a nearly 15-year-old game would be a noteworthy achievement; causing someone at Valve to send a single tweet would be a letdown for the game's remaining players. Valve didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. https://csblackdevil.com/forums/forum/20033-consol-games/?do=add
  7. If you were hoping drastic changes would hit the 2023 Nissan Altima, well, that's a curious thing to stand on pins and needles for. Also, while there are a few mid-cycle changes meant to carry the Altima a few more years until its next full redesign, there aren't any major mechanical upgrades. What changes have been made improve the sedan's looks, its interior, and gives it some updated standard safety features. Nissan hasn't mentioned any improvements in its handling with its AWD system and it's lackluster CVT used in the 2.0 liter VC Turbo I-4. While it is essentially the same Altima that has been around since 2019, the 2023 model does away with the nose's chrome trim, adopting a new grille design on the SR model and Nissan's new minimal logo. Gone is the chrome flying "V" as that is now all "black chrome" trim that contrasts against the body, grille, and ends where the lower headlights terminate. The side ducts have also changed, so what once looked like smalls opening are now larger and encompassed by more expansive black trim for a bolder look. Also missing from those lower ducts are any lights, including fog lights in the photos that Nissan sent us. The lack of this lower signal is reflected in a change to the headlights with a new bulb where only a reflector was and LED lights being standard, but the overall shape remains the same from 2021. On the rear of the 2023 Altima not much has changed. The only thing missing is the "VC Turbo" badge that was found on the trunk of models equipped with that turbo engine, but overall, everything else is the same. Wheel sizes will also remain the same starting with a 16-inch steel wheel with a plastic cover and a P215/60R16 all-seasons all around on the 2.5 S. Stepping up to the 2.5 SV will get you a set of 17-inch wheels on P25/55R17 all-season tires. Finally, jumping into the 2.5 SR, 2.0 VC Turbo SR, or the 2.5 SL jumps you up into the 19-inch wheel with a 235/40R19 all-season tire. The wheel designs are also new for 2023 and each wheel is unique for the trim level, meaning there are now four different wheel designs overall for the Altima. Finally for the exterior, there will be two new colors joining in for customers to choose from: Gray Sky Pearl and Garnett Pearl Metallic along with a single panel moonroof option. While the interior was hardly class-leading in the 2022 model, the 2023 version steps things up with a 12.3-inch touchscreen similar to the one used in the new Nissan Armada SUV. Underneath it and just forward of the shifter is an available wireless phone charging pad, which is also where the USB C, USB, and power outlets are located. Unfortunately, the 12.3-inch screen and the wireless charging are optional on the SV trim and only become standard when you jump up to the pricier SL and SR trims. Another huge step forward is the inclusion of ProPilot Assist in the 2.5 SL and 2.0 SR VC Turbo trims, though it is not available on the 2.5 SR trim and is only an option on the 2.5 SV trim. We do have to point out, again, that adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist features are standard on all trims of the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Subaru Legacy, Hyundai Sonata. We now get to the power and drivetrains, which go unchanged for 2023. That lineup is topped by Nissan's boundary-pushing 2.0-liter VC Turbo I-4, which delivers decent performance for a small-displacement four-cylinder engine while introducing a novel variable compression system to the market. Both it and the entry-level 2.5-liter I-4 are adequate engines, albeit hampered by their exclusive pairing with Nissan's Xtronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). In the 2022 Altima SR VC Turbo we last reviewed, it was the CVT that held us back from enjoying the experience. It was fun, quick, and handled very well on track and on the road, but the sluggish tuning of the CVT in conjunction with the variable compression and turbo boost mapping meant that power delivery is nonlinear and has a "rubber-band" effect where acceleration ramps up unnaturally. Unless the programming between the engine and CVT has been drastically improved, we expect the experience to be to before. The same is likely true about the Altima's "Intelligent AWD" on trims that have it. As before, it's more of a traction enhancer for poor weather drives than a performance upgrade. The 2.5 SV, 2.5 SR, and 2.5 SL trims offer all-wheel drive as an option—a relative rarity in the midsize sedan segment—while the 2.5 S and the 2.0 SR VC Turbo don't. Overall, the Altima looks better in pictures, but on paper, it remains mostly the same. We'll know more, including its pricing, when it gets closer to its on sale date in fall of 2022. https://csblackdevil.com/forums/forum/901-auto-moto/?do=add
  8. WASHINGTON – Americans who watched Thursday night's congressional hearing on the Jan. 6 insurrection heard then-President Donald Trump's attorney general dismiss his claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen, calling it, well, cattle dung. They learned that when Trump heard rioters chanting "hang Mike Pence," he replied that maybe his vice president "deserves it" for refusing to play along with his plot to stay in office. And they saw harrowing footage of the melee in the Capitol, where a police officer recalled getting knocked unconscious and later slipping on the spilled blood of her colleagues. But it is as though some top Republicans in New York didn't see or hear any of that. Rep. Claudia Tenney, a Utica-area Republican who's running to represent a redrawn district stretching from rural Niagara County to the Watertown area, issued a statement dismissing the work of the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol. "It is partisan performance art produced by the mainstream media to defame President Trump, attack his supporters, divide the American people and advance the federal takeover of our elections," Tenney said. And while Tenney described the hearing as "a sham," Rep. Elise Stefanik of the North Country, the House's third-ranking Republican, did several television interviews on friendly right-wing outlets where she called the investigation into the riot a "partisan witch hunt." In other words, Tenney and Stefanik are continuing to do what many Republicans have done in the aftermath of an unprecedented attack by Americans on the nation's Capitol, and an unprecedented attempt by an American president to stay in office after losing an election. In essence, they tried to change the subject. The Buffalo News contacted both Tenney's office and Stefanik's with several questions about the hearing, but neither responded. That meant the two lawmakers missed out on reacting to some of the hearing's most dramatic moments, such as: • Then-Attorney General William P. Barr's dismissal of Trump's election fraud claims as "complete nonsense" – and the response of the president's daughter, Ivanka Trump, who testified on video, saying: "I respect Attorney General Barr. So I accepted what he was saying.” • Rep. Liz Cheney's statement that when Trump heard protesters chanting "Hang Mike Pence," the president said: 'Maybe our supporters have the right idea." • Capitol Police Officer Caroline Edwards' description of being knocked out in the riot and her later comment: "I saw friends with blood all over their faces. I was slipping in people's blood." • Cheney's preview of the investigation's findings, in which she said: “You will see that Donald Trump and his advisers knew that he had, in fact, lost the election. But despite this, President Trump engaged in a massive effort to spread false and fraudulent information to convince huge portions of the U.S. po[CENSORED]tion that fraud had stolen the election.” In statements and appearances on right-wing media outlets, Tenney and Stefanik focused on none of that, instead emphasizing other issues. “The American people are deeply concerned about the historic and unprecedented failures of Joe Biden’s Administration, from skyrocketing costs, soaring fuel prices, rising crime, and the erosion of our Constitutional rights," Tenney said in a statement. "Tonight’s event was a distraction from these very real issues facing our nation." And on NewsMax, Tenney lit into Cheney, the Wyoming congresswoman who serves as one of two Republicans on the panel and the committee's vice chair. Tenney accused Cheney of "Trump derangement syndrome," adding: "She is currying favor with the Democrats because she has an obsession with Donald Trump." Meanwhile, Stefanik appeared on Fox News, Fox Business, NewsMax and Steve Bannon's War Room to offer her alternate take on the hearing. "This committee is illegitimate," Stefanik said on NewsMax's "Spicer & Co." "It's illegitimate because for the first time in the history of Congress, (House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi shred 232 years of precedent by not allowing the minority party, the Republicans, to appoint members of Congress" to the panel. Then again, the committee that's investigating the insurrection exists only because congressional Republicans rejected legislation calling for an independent commission to do the job. Both Tenney and Stefanik opposed that proposal, but Rep. Chris Jacobs, an Orchard Park Republican who's leaving Congress at the end of his current term, supported it. Jacobs' spokesman did not respond to a request for comment for this story, and the congressman did not post any reaction to the hearing on his website or on social media. But Rep. Brian Higgins, a Buffalo Democrat, offered a blunt reaction on Twitter. "Clearly, substantial evidence exists of an attempted coup," Higgins said. "Donald Trump & others responsible must have their actions fully exposed & be held accountable." Meanwhile, Cheney and Rep. Adam Kinzinger, the other Republican on the panel, lashed into lawmakers who continue to support Trump. "I say this to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible: There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain," Cheney said at the hearing. And on Twitter, Kinzinger offered a cutting critique of Stefanik's Newsmax performance. "Man. I’d hate to be on your side of the insurrection right now," he said. "Today was just a taste. Truth always wins." https://csblackdevil.com/forums/forum/109-news/?do=add

  11. A brand-new DOHC 5.5-liter V-8 engine, coupled with a mild hybrid system common to all the field's cars, will power the similarly new Cadillac Project GTP Hypercar that will debut in January at the 2023 Rolex 24 at Daytona, and run in the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans. Cars from Chip Ganassi Racing and Action Express will continue to field the cars in the U.S. in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, where they will be called GTPs, while an unnamed team will field one Cadillac in the World Endurance Championship, where they will be called Hypercars. Rules are the same, though, and wherever Hypercars are racing the GTPs will be welcome, including at Le Mans. This is the third generation Prototype race car from the U.S.-based luxury brand of General Motors. Others building a new Hypercar/GTP include Porsche, BMW, Acura, Toyota, Lamborghini (2024) and Alpine, a division of Renault. Cadillac revealed the car today, and it's a gorgeous design, full of delicate touches and LED lighting that may or may not make it to the actual competition car. The taillights, in particular, recall a certain 1950s-era flourish that, while common to many American cars at the time was perfected and maximized by Cadillac. Face it: They look like tailfins—and there's even a third tailfin standing vertically in the center, at the peak of the car's dorsal fin. The '50s, you'll recall, are when the first Cadillacs raced at Le Mans. "Cadillac will be competing again on the world racing stage, and we are all thrilled to return to Le Mans after 22 years," said Rory Harvey, Vice President Global Cadillac. "By competing in both the 2023 IMSA and WEC championships, Cadillac Racing has the opportunity to demonstrate its capability, craftsmanship and technology." Co-developed by Cadillac Design, Cadillac Racing and Dallara, the Project GTP Hypercar incorporates key brand design characteristics. Elements of the brand's heritage such as vertical lighting and floating blades are present throughout and connect the Project GTP Hypercar to the future of Cadillac, including the upcoming Lyriq and Celestiq EVs. "The Project GTP Hypercar is a unique convergence of form and function and showcases Cadillac's future performance aesthetic," said Chris Mikalauskas, lead exterior creative designer, Cadillac. "We have plenty more to come, from the upcoming race car to amazing production vehicles." Since 2017, Cadillac has been competing at the forefront of American sports car racing in the IMSA manufacturers championship achieving numerous wins, podiums and championships in the Cadillac DPi-V.R. "Competing for the overall win at Le Mans with an iconic American brand like Cadillac is an honor," said Laura Wontrop Klauser, GM sports car racing program manager. "The entire team is excited to continue building Cadillac's racing legacy by competing against the very best internationally and in the world's toughest race." The race car will begin on-track testing this summer. https://csblackdevil.com/forums/forum/901-auto-moto/?do=add
