Indianaβs new sweeping ban on abortion produced immediate political and economic fallout Saturday, as some of the stateβs biggest employers objected to the restrictions, Democratic leaders strategized ways to amend or repeal the law, and abortion rights activists made plans to arrange alternative locations for women seeking procedures. The Indiana law, which the Republican-controlled state legislature passed late Friday night and Gov. Eric Holcomb (R) signed moments later, was the first state ban passed since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade in June and was celebrated as a major victory by abortion foes. It also came just three days after voters in traditionally conservative Kansas surprised the political world by taking a very different tack, rejecting a ballot measure that would have stripped abortion rights protections from that stateβs constitution. The vote in Indiana capped weeks of fraught debate in Indianapolis, where activists demonstrated at the state Capitol and waged intense lobbying campaigns as Republican lawmakers debated how far the law should go in restricting abortion. Some abortion foes hailed the lawβs passage as a road map for conservatives in other states pushing similar bans in the aftermath of the high courtβs decision on Roe, which had guaranteed for the past 50 years the right to abortion care. The Indiana ban, which goes into effect Sept. 15, allows abortion only in cases of rape, incest, lethal fetal abnormality, or when the procedure is necessary to prevent severe health risks or death. Indiana joins nine other states that have abortion bans starting at conception. The new law represents a victory for antiabortion forces, who have been working for decades to halt the procedure. But passage occurred after disagreements among some abortion foes, some of whom thought the bill did not go far enough in stopping the procedure. After the legislation was signed into law, Eli Lilly, the pharmaceutical giant and one of the stateβs largest employers, warned that such laws would hurt its employee recruiting efforts and said the company would look elsewhere for its expansion plans. βWe are concerned that this law will hinder Lillyβs β and Indianaβs β ability to attract diverse scientific engineering and business talent from around the world,β the company said in a statement issued Saturday. βGiven this new law, we will be forced to plan for more employment growth outside our home state.β See where abortion laws have changed Salesforce, the tech giant with 2,300 employees in Indiana, had previously offered to relocate employees in states with abortion restrictions, though it didnβt respond on Saturday to a request for comment on the Indiana law. The Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce also warned the ban was passed too quickly and without regard for how it will affect the stateβs tourism industry. βSuch an expedited legislative process β rushing to advance state policy on broad, complex issues β is, at best, detrimental to Hoosiers, and at worst, reckless,β the chamber said in a statement, asking: βWill the Indy region continue to attract tourism and convention investments?β Indiana lost out on 12 conventions and an estimated $60 million of business after it passed a religious freedom law in 2015, according to one local tourism industry estimate. Indiana is the first state to ban abortion by legislature since the Supreme Court decision in June overturning Roe v. Wade. Other states enacted βtrigger lawsβ that went into effect with the fall of Roe. Indiana may be just the beginning. Abortion rights advocates estimate that abortion could be severely restricted or banned in as many as half of the 50 states. An official at Indiana Right to Life, an Indiana antiabortion group, said the new law will end 95 percent of abortions in Indiana and will close all Indiana abortion clinicsβ Sept. 15, the date the legislation takes effect, unless abortion activists go to court and get an injunction beforehand. Indiana has considered abortion restrictions for years, though it remained a state where many in the region traveled for abortion care. Now, as many nearby states β including Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia β also push for abortion bans, patients may have to travel hundreds of miles in some cases for care, said Elizabeth Nash, a policy expert at the Guttmacher Institute, which supports abortion rights. βPatients in Ohio wonβt be able to go to Indiana for access. Theyβll have to get to, perhaps, Illinois or Michigan,β she said. Passage of the Indiana measure occurred just weeks after national attention was focused on a 10-year-old girl who was raped in Ohio, where abortion is banned after six weeks, and traveled to Indiana to terminate the pregnancy. Caitlin Bernard, the doctor who performed that abortion in Indianapolis, tweeted Saturday that she was βdevastatedβ by the legislatureβs action. βHow many girls and women will be hurt before they realize this must be reversed? I will continue to fight for them with every fiber of my being,β she wrote. Doctors are reluctant to work in anti-abortion states The Indiana measure drew swift condemnation from national Democrats, who sought to cast Republicans as extreme on abortion β citing the Kansas vote earlier this week, where even rural, conservative parts of the state rejected changing the stateβs constitutional right to an abortion. The law is βanother radical step by Republican legislators to take away womenβs reproductive rights and freedom,β White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement. Democrats are hopeful, though, that they can use what happened in Indiana to cast the entire Republican Party as extreme on abortion. βThis has nothing to do with being βpro-life,β β tweeted California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D). βItβs about power and control.β In Washington, Republican leaders have been largely silent on Republican-led statesβ push to ban abortion. Polls consistently show that near-total abortion bans like the one in Indiana are unpo[CENSORED]r with the general public. So when Indiana Republicans ban abortion for an entire state, βthey are effectively speaking for all Republicans,β said Martha McKenna, a Democratic political strategist, βand thatβs why I have hope itβs a good issue for Democrats in November.β Another political strategist, Jonathan Levy, who worked on the Kansans For Constitutional Freedom Campaign, which is opposed to limiting abortion rights, said the Kansas vote showed that extreme antiabortion positions are βgoing to be rejected by Americans across the political spectrum. The American people want legislators to focus on how to keep food on the table, keep the economy afloat. They think the legislatureβs priorities are out of whack,β he said. Alongside the near-total abortion ban, Indiana Republicans also passed legislation they said was intended to support pregnant women and mothers, but critics pointed out much of the money was directed at propping up pregnancy crisis centers run by antiabortion groups. The passage of the bill left health providers and abortion counseling agencies struggling to figure out the full impact of the legislation. Indiana University Health, a major health-care provider in the state, issued a statement saying it was trying to figure out what the ban meant for its doctors and patients. βWe will take the next few weeks to fully understand the terms of the new law and how to incorporate changes into our medical practice to protect our providers and care for people seeking reproductive health,β the health provider said in a statement. Meantime, activists began discussing plans to raise funds and provide transportation for those seeking abortion access after the ban goes into effect, said Carol McCord, a former employee at Planned Parenthood. βSince this is soon to be illegal in Indiana, we are looking for ways to help women travel to get services that they need,β she said. Indiana law was already considered restrictive compared with other states, so about 35 percent of women seeking abortions traveled out of state already, said Jessica Marchbank who serves as the state programs manager for the All-Options Pregnancy Resource Center in Bloomington. Democratic state legislators began strategizing Saturday about how to respond, including considering repeal measures and organizing voters to elect legislators who favor abortion rights. βThis is a dark time for Indiana,β said state Sen. Shelli Yoder, an assistant Democratic caucus chair. βThe plan going forward is to be sure we come out in November and vote out the individuals who supported something that only a tiny minority of Hoosiers wanted.β Immediately, Yoder said in an interview that she and like-minded state legislators are contemplating action that could undo the impact of the new law, noting that the legislature has not been formally adjourned. βWe can come back and fix this,β she said, adding that legislators are at the early stage of plotting how to do that. Katie Blair, the advocacy and public policy director of the American Civil Liberties Union in Indiana, said Saturday that her organization will examine legal action. βYou can guarantee that our legal team will be working with partners to evaluate every legal avenue available to defend abortion access here in Indiana,β Blair said in a statement. In signing the legislation, Holcomb applauded the work of the lawmakers he had called into special session this summer to find a way to restrict abortion, acknowledging disagreements among those opposed to abortion. βThese actions followed long days of hearings filled with sobering and personal testimony from citizens and elected representatives on this emotional and complex topic,β the governor said in a statement. βUltimately, those voices shaped and informed the final contents of the legislation and its carefully negotiated exceptions to address some of the unthinkable circumstances a woman or unborn child might face.β https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/abortion-law-in-indiana-leads-to-fallout-for-state-politics/ar-AA10nJAn?li=BBnb7Kz

Apple iPhone 14 series is expected to debut later this year in September. This lineup is expected to include the iPhone 14, iPhone 14, iPhone Max, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Rumours have been in abundance regarding the specifications and various design aspects of the iPhone 14 series. Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has now shared some of its production details. He claims that some of the iPhone 14 models will now be made in India simultaneously with China. The Cupertino company is seemingly attempting to reduce its dependence on the Chinese supply chain in the wake of the recent geopolitical issues. Kuo mentioned in his tweets that Foxconn's iPhone production site in India will purportedly take on the task of shipping iPhone 14 models simultaneously with the Chinese manufacturers. Apple has been manufacturing iPhone handsets in India for a few years. However, Indian production has been reportedly a quarter or more behind its Chinese counterparts. Production sites in India are expected to manufacture the iPhone 14 models with a 6.1-inch display which are tipped to be the vanilla iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Pro. The iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max are believed to feature 6.7-inch displays. According to Kuo, the Indian production sites' shipments are expected to lag behind China for the time being. However, it could be an 'important milestone' for Apple to establish a non-China iPhone production site. The Cupertino company could be seeking to reduce the impact of geopolitical issues on its supply chain. In addition, Apple is purportedly targetting the Indian market as the country could be the next key region to boost its growth. In related news, the top execs at Apple have reportedly decided to launch the iPhone 14 at the same price point as its predecessor the iPhone 13. The iPhone 14 could start from $799 (roughly Rs. 64,000). https://gadgets360.com/mobiles/news/iphone-14-6-1-inch-apple-india-production-foxconn-china-3228366#pfrom=topstory

Introduction A pioneer in foldable phones, Huawei is still making two different types - ones that fold in on themselves, and those that have the display wrap around the outside of the body when folded. Another iteration on the second type is what we have for you here - the Mate Xs 2. Showing up a full two years after the previous outie, the Mate Xs 2 comes with several hardware tweaks. A minor decrease in screen size from 8" to 7.8" will have little impact on usability but has to have helped bring weight down to a far more manageable 255g. That display now comes with a 120Hz refresh rate too, one-upping even the inner-folding Mate X2's 90Hz, and a selfie camera (or should we say video call camera) has appeared in the top right corner - the Mate Xs didn't have one at all. Things have changed in the rear camera setup too. A 50MP primary module similar to the P50 Pro's (minus the OIS) replaces the 40MP one on the old model, though the ultrawide's been bumped down to 13MP from the 16MP on the Xs. At the opposite end of the zoom range, the 3x-ish tele holds a notch more zoom power than what you can get on most foldables at the time of writing this. A chipset upgrade is also in place, though it's not cutting-edge silicon you'll find in the Mate Xs. Instead, we see last year's Snapdragon 888 in 4G-only form - the US-China dispute that hit Huawei the most is still taking its toll. That also manifests itself in the Google-less software package, which remains one of the strongest arguments against getting a Huawei phone - though we've heard some people list that as a pro as well. The minor increase in battery capacity (4,500mAh to 4,600mAh) is unlikely to be felt, though it's still nice that it didn't suffer from the weight cuts. Meanwhile, the 66W charging support promises speedy top-ups. Huawei Mate Xs 2 specs at a glance: Body: Unfolded: 156.5x139.3x5.4mm; folded: 156.5x75.5x11.1mm; 255g. Display: 7.80" Foldable OLED, 1B colors, 120Hz, 2200x2480px resolution, 10.15:9 aspect ratio, 424ppi; folded display: 6.50", 1176x2480px, 19:9 aspect ratio. Chipset: Qualcomm SM8350 Snapdragon 888 4G (5 nm): Octa-core (1x2.84 GHz Cortex-X1 & 3x2.42 GHz Cortex-A78 & 4x1.80 GHz Cortex-A55); Adreno 660. Memory: 256GB 8GB RAM, 512GB 8GB RAM, 512GB 12GB RAM; UFS; NM (Nano Memory), up to 256GB (uses shared SIM slot). OS/Software: HarmonyOS 2.0. Rear camera: Wide (main): 50 MP, f/1.8, PDAF, Laser AF; Ultra wide angle: 13 MP, f/2.2, 120Λ; Telephoto: 8 MP, f/2.4, 81mm, PDAF, OIS, 3x optical zoom. Front camera: 10.7 MP, f/2.2. Video capture: Rear camera: 4K@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60/960fps; Front camera: 4K@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60/240fps. Battery: 4600mAh; Fast charging 66W, Reverse charging. Misc: Fingerprint reader (side-mounted); NFC; Infrared port. Huawei Mate Xs 2 unboxing The Mate Xs 2 arrives in a package befitting its price tag and exclusive status - it's a properly big box by today's standards, made of thick dark gray cardboard and featuring golden lettering. The phone lies open in a tray on top and the accessories are further compartmentalized in separate boxes underneath. This year's case solution offers a bit more protection compared to the Xs' stick-on plastic frame protector, though it does come with its own peculiarities, which we'll discuss on the next page. Still, having a case in the box means that Huawei is not offloading all the responsibility for keeping that exposed foldable screen on you as the end user, which is nice. Also included is a Huawei Super Charge adapter rated for 66W output, though it does have a USB-A out and we tend to frown upon those in 2022. We'd be cautiously speculating it has something to do with charging the two separate batteries in the two halves of the phone, which is more easily done quickly with a proprietary charging tech. But then the previous model did have a USB-C based adapter, so it's not that, and this situation has us a bit perplexed. You do, of course, get a USB-A-to-C cable included. What has gone missing is the pair of wired USB-C earbuds that the 2020 Xs shipped with. That's two downgrades already, though the earbuds in particular won't be missed, we reckon. https://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_mate_xs_2-review-2459.php

Why would you plug in your phone when you could use a wireless CarPlay adapter? iPhone users typically love Appleβs CarPlay system. Of course, itβs easy to see why people love it so much once youβve tried it. But if you have to plug in your phone in order to use CarPlay in your car, youβre not enjoying the best possible user experience. Itβs so much more convenient when itβs wireless! So many automakers out there should be beyond embarrassed at this point. Why? Itβs because their infotainment systems are atrocious. I have Apple CarPlay in my car and to be perfectly frank, it makes every built-in car infotainment system Iβve ever tried seem ancient. And Iβve tried them allβ¦ even the newer ones like the updated systems from Mercedes and Tesla. If I stop to think about it, thereβs really only one problem I have with CarPlay in my car. Itβs the fact that my vehicle doesnβt support Appleβs newer wireless CarPlay feature. That means I have to plug in my iPhone with a physical cable to use CarPlay. At least, that was the case until I found the CarlinKit 3.0 wireless CarPlay adapter on Amazon. And right now, all three versions of this awesome gadget are on sale with surprisingly deep discounts. Best wireless CarPlay adapter for any car Being able to have all of your iPhoneβs main apps accessible right on your carβs display is so great. CarPlay offers a simple interface and quick access to all the core functionality you might need. On top of that, it supports Siri as well as third-party apps that are must-haves in your car. I cannot tell you how excited I was when Waze first came to CarPlay. Now, I seriously canβt drive anywhere without it. CarPlay even supports a widget view now. This way, you can have an animated map while things like your music player and phone controls are displayed off to the side. But not having wireless CarPlay in my car was definitely a bummer. Connecting a cable to my iPhone certainly isnβt the end of the world. Of course, itβs a whole lot easier to not have to connect a cable. Thatβs why I was so happy when I found this awesome wireless CarPlay adapter! The name says it all. This is the device youβve been waiting for if youβre like me and you have a vehicle that doesnβt support wireless CarPlay connections. The CarlinKit 3.0 wireless CarPlay adapter connects to your vehicle through a standard USB-A or USB-C port and acts as a wireless conduit between your car and your iPhone. This way, you can connect to the adapter wirelessly via Bluetooth. Now you wonβt have to plug your iPhone into your car every time you get in. As I said, this is the gadget youβve been waiting for! CarlinKit 3.0 reviews Read through the reviews on Amazon and youβll see that this wireless adapter works very well for most people. A few people do seem to run into problems, but there are fixes out there for most issues. So many people are quick to complain when all they had to do was actually read the instructions and perform a quick and easy software update. Typical. The bottom line is that the CarlinKit 3.0 wireless CarPlay adapter works very well for most people. And now is the perfect time to give it a shot. There are three different versions including the one above, and theyβre all discounted right now. In addition to the 2019-2020 version, thereβs one for older cars (2018-2019) and another for newer cars (2021-2022). CarlinKit 3.0 fast facts Thereβs really no question that this is the best wireless CarPlay adapter I have found in 2022. You donβt have to deal with a complex installation and itβs so easy to use. This model is also much more reliable than any comparable products Iβve come across. If you want to transform the Apple CarPlay in your car and make it wireless, this is the best way to do it. Here are some key takeaways that you should keep in mind if youβre considering the CarlinKit 3.0: The Carlinkit 3.0 Wireless CarPlay Adapter converts any car with wired CarPlay so that it supports wireless CarPlay Works with Audi, Porsche, Volvo, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Honda, Peugeot, Chevrolet, Ford SYNC 3.4, Mazda, and more Your car must have a factory-wired CarPlay system in order to work with this wireless CarPlay adapter No more plugging your phone into your car with a Lightning USB cable Play music, listen to podcasts, navigate with your favorite mapping app, and more β all through CarPlay with now cable needed Compatible with every iPhone model from iPhone 5 and newer as long as itβs running iOS 7.1 or later Initial connection from your iPhone to the Carlinkit 3.0 Wireless CarPlay Adapter takes between 7 and 14 seconds depending on your car and iPhone model Comes with a one-year warranty in addition to lifetime technical support Add Apple CarPlay to any car, no installation required The CarlinKit 3.0 is a fantastic wireless CarPlay adapter. But what about cars that donβt have Apple CarPlay, to begin with? If you have a Tesla, you can hack CarPlay onto your car as long as youβre the daring type. But thereβs another solution thatβs so much easier. As a matter of fact, itβs so easy that it doesnβt even require you to install anything. Itβs called the Car and Driver INTELLIDASH Plus, and it adds CarPlay to any car in seconds. Just pop it on your dashboard somewhere, plug it into power, and youβre done! Thereβs also an upgraded model called the INTELLIDASH PRO with wireless CarPlay thatβs very po[CENSORED]r. Of note, both models go on sale from time to time so you might be able to scoop one up at a discount. I recently told you about this awesome gadget in our coverage about how to add CarPlay to any car without installing anything. The INTELLIDASH Plus is a CarPlay device that has its own screen. You simply connect it to the power in your car, stick it on your dashboard, and youβre done! Definitely check it out if you want to add Apple CarPlay to any car that doesnβt already support it. https://bgr.com/deals/wireless-carplay-adapter-amazon/

The Japanese police no longer know what to do with the macaques in Yamaguchi, a town in the south of the country. The attacks are becoming more violent. The situation is delicate. In kindergartens, in public spacesβeven in homes, the people of Yamaguchi face troops of violent macaques who, seeking to reclaim their territory, mess with human beings. Some of the attacks are frontal: local police reports indicate that primates intimidate babies with screams. Other people have expressed concern about the looks they feel on their shoulders when walking down the street. Most likely, it is the Japanese monkeys that, watching them from the tiles on the houses or the trees, wait for the perfect moment to launch their attack. This is the reason. We suggest: The story of Yakei, the first female alpha macaque in Japan A rocky recovery The problem Yamaguchi faces with the growing po[CENSORED]tion of macaques is not new. On the contrary, according to the BBC, it has been a recurring situation for decades. The increasingly virulent growth of the species occurred, in an unusual way, after the extermination that these primates experienced during the 19th century. Due to the excessive felling of Japanese forests -which are the only habitat for macaques in the country-, the 'snow monkeys' were left without shelter. The reduction of its ecosystem was added to the excessive hunting that Japan allowed at that time. Homeless, and threatened by the pressure of human activity, the species was pushed to extinction until the middle of the 20th century. IT WAS NOT UNTIL THE SECOND WORLD WAR CAME TO AN END THAT THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT PROHIBITED THE HUNT OF THE SPECIES IN THE WHOLE COUNTRY, EXPLAINS LIVE SCIENCE. WITH THE INSTRUCTION OF PRESERVING A NATIVE SPECIES OF THE JAPANESE FORESTS, THEIR HABITAT WAS RESTORED AND THE MACAQUES BEGAN TO PO[CENSORED]TE THE TERRITORY FROM WHICH THEY WERE DISPOSSESSED. More than half a century after this resolution was made, in pursuit of reestablishing the po[CENSORED]tions in the country, the macaques took the city of Yamaguchi as their own. It is not the only one: in other towns in Japan, people are afraid to go outside without an umbrella, to protect themselves from the violent attacks they receive from snow monkeys. Invasion, or recovery of the territory? A team of scientists describes for Mammal Study as "a problem of modern Japan" the closeness situation with the snow monkeys. In contrast, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists the species as one of least concern on its Red List for threatened animals. That's how vigorous his recovery has been. At the same time, the local police had to shoot down one of the most problematic specimens recently. After entering a kindergarten and attacking students on several occasions, the State decided to end the life of the animal. The problem, however, does not end there. Some media consider that the situation in Yamaguchi is an invasion of macaques. Rather, Japan's natural history suggests that they are reclaiming territory that has been theirs for thousands of years. Perhaps those who invaded space were human po[CENSORED]tions. Meanwhile, the human po[CENSORED]tion in Yamaguchi has to take precautions when going outside: lest, if luck is not on their side, they receive a macaque bite on the back. https://www.ngenespanol.com/animales/el-ataque-de-cientos-de-macacos-en-yamaguchi-preocupa-a-la-policia-japonesa/
