Looking for something new to watch, but feel like you've already seen all there is to see on your streaming service? Panic not. As we draw ever-closer to the holidays, Netflix and co are ramping up their offerings to ensure there's a good selection of old and new shows and movies to keep us entertained. While you might well expect an abundance of Christmas-flavoured treats to get you in the holiday mood, there's also a number of options for those of us looking for a little respite from that holiday cheer, too. We'll explain how to stream each one if you live in the US or UK (wherever possible) to help keep you busy over the next few days. Here's what's new in the world of streaming this weekend, including High School Musical: The Musical: The Holiday Special, Ava, and the return of that guy in the hockey mask... Sporting a fairly dismal 16% Rotten Tomatoes score, Ava is sitting pretty on the Netflix charts right now, probably because it a) stars the excellent Jessica Chastain and b) there are no new movies releasing right now. Ava is about an assassin who vanished out of her old life, only to re-emerge years later with people gunning for her after a hit goes wrong. If you're desperate for new Netflix movies, it's something you can watch. John Malkovich and Colin Farrell co-star. Starring The Marvelous Mrs Maisel's Rachel Brosnahan, this well-reviewed '70s-set drama is about a woman who has to protect her baby after her husband crosses his old 'work' partners. Expect more than just a story about a scared parent on the run, though. Fast Color's Julia Hart is the director, here.

In September 2017, Pimax launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the development of an ultrawide, ultra high resolution VR headset called the Pimax 8K. It ended up offering a 200-degree field of view (FOV) and dual 4K resolution displays for better image clarity and less screen door effect. At the time, these specifications were unheard of and scarcely believable. But it’s 2020 now, and while ultrawide headsets are hardly commonplace, dual 4K resolution is not as shocking a metric. That's the market in which the Pimax Vision 8K Plus ($899 MSRP) is competing for the title of Best VR Headset. Ultimately, the headset can provide a premium experience, but you’ll need some VR experience of your own in order to manage the amount of calibration needed to get the HMD running at max potential. A Little Bit of History Pimax Vision 8K Plus (Blue) at Amazon for $849 Let’s go back to 2017, when Pimax promised its 8K resolution head-mounted display (HMD). Despite the wild claims and the fact that GPUs of the time were not powerful enough to drive such a headset, the campaign drew in more than $3 million from trusting fans. That's more than Oculus collected for its Kickstarter campaign in 2013. The early-bird deliveries were supposed to ship within a few months of the campaign, but that didn't happen. Pimax endured several setbacks throughout headset development that caused significant release delays. The company eventually released the headsets it promised and then iterated and created the Vision 8K Plus successor on our test bench. As with all modern Pimax HMDs, the Vision 8K Plus is ultrawide with an extensive FOV. The headset’s two 4K displays face outward, giving you more peripheral vision than the average VR headset. Pimax advertises a 200-degree diagonal FOV, which puts it near the top of all headsets, including enterprise-class devices. For comparison, the Valve Index’s FOV goes up to 130 degrees. Our first impressions of the Vision 8K Plus were positive. The new headset features the same sharp-angled shell as the older model. The only difference other than color is that the π logo is no longer embossed on the left-front corner. Immediately, we noticed a significant improvement in the quality of the HMD’s exterior compared to the original Pimax headsets, the Pimax 8K and Pimax 5K Plus The 5K Plus' fragile shell left a lot to be desired, but the Vision 8K Plus features a soft-touch plastic material that feels much sturdier than the older headset. The old model flexed and creaked when we handled it; this one does not. Pimax chose a dark blue dye for the plastic that is almost the same shade as the HTC Vive Pro. We found the color gave the Vive Pro a premium look, and it has a similar effect on the Vision 8K Plus. The faceplate of the first Vision 8K Plus that we received featured a bright green chevron that lights up when the HMD is powered on, providing a bold contrast against the blue shell. The replacement headset includes a chrome finish over the chevron, which still lights up green. The chrome used to be reserved for the Pimax Vision 8K X, but Pimax recently revised the 8K Plus to include these shiny accents.

I cannot tell a lie, I'm feeling a little grotty this morning. And after spending yesterday sweeping up news, (as well as taking care of some fires - not literally - at home), I'm not quite as on-the-ball as usual for this, our regular Saturday soiree into all things gaming. Still, I'm here, and you're here, and I'm really happy for that, so let's get into it. While I haven't played anything new this past week - having been squeezing out time in recent haunts such as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night - I did catch up with The Keighleys, which I smartly chose not to stay up until 4 a.m. UK time watching. While there was very little that caught my eye, (though I'm still digging Returnal), I hope some of you found your next gaming obsession. 2021 is already shaping up to be a solid year for games, I hope that you're all geared up for it. But enough about tomorrow, let's look at today. Share with us the titles that have been keeping you occupied this past week. Perhaps you've been creeping through the streets of Night City, or maybe you're finally getting around to a major release from 2020 that has passed you by. But whatever is keeping you warm and comfortable as these dark winter nights draw in, stop by and fill us in on the scoops, the word on the street, the hush-hush.

The new Lynk&Co Zero, an electric coupé-SUV built on a new dedicated EV architecture set to underpin future Volvo models, has completed its first dynamic testing in China, ahead of going on sale in the country next year. The Volkswagen ID 4 rival will be the first electric model from Geely's Chinese premium brand, which is due to finally expand into Europe next year with the 01 SUV using an entirely subscription-based business model. The Zero is expected to eventually be offered in Europe as well. Shown in concept form at the Beijing motor show in September, the Zero is the first model build on Geely’s new Sustainable Electric Architecture (SEA), which the firm says features advances in both hardware and software systems - including the ability to offer over-the-air updates. Geely says the new architecture is open-source and will be “used throughout the Geely Holding portfolio of companies," which includes Volvo and its spin-off performance brand Polestar. Deliveries of the first Volvo EV, the XC40 Recharge P8, will begin in the UK early next year, but there's no confirmation on when the Swedish firm might launch a car using the SEA platform. Geely is also planing to offer the platform for use by third party firms. Lynk&Co has yet to release full performance details of the Zero, but it claims that it will offer a 0-62mph time of less than 4.0sec, with a range of around 435 miles. It uses an 800V underfloor battery pack, which the firm says has a lifespan of 1.2 million miles. The Zero also has 50:50 weight distribution front to rear, according to Lynk&Co, and rides on adjustable air suspension. The prototype completed initial testing at the Yan Cheng test facility in Jiangsu Province, running both on the venue’s high-speed banking and completing ‘moose test’ obstacle avoidance. The Zero is due to go into production in China in the middle of 2021 and customer deliveries will begin before the end of the year.

A man who killed his toddler daughter nearly 20 years ago has become the second US federal inmate to be executed in as many days. Alfred Bourgeois' death by lethal injection on Friday comes after Brandon Bernard was put to death on Thursday. Three more executions are planned before the end of Donald Trump's presidency on 20 January. Federal executions had been on pause for 17 years before Mr Trump ordered them to resume earlier this year. If the remaining executions go ahead, Mr Trump will have overseen the most executions by a US president in more than a century. In Trump’s final days, a rush of federal executions Brandon Bernard executed in Trump's final days They break with an 130-year-old precedent of pausing executions during a presidential transition. President-elect Joe Biden takes office on 20 January. Mr Biden, who for decades was a fierce proponent of the death penalty as a Delaware senator, has said he will seek to end federal executions once he takes office. The federal death penalty had not been used since 2003, in part due to concerns about the drugs used in executions. Abuse Courts ruled that Bourgeois had physically and sexually abused his two-year-old daughter before killing her as he passed through Texas while working as a long-haul truck driver. Prosecutors say he killed her by slamming her head into the car's window and dashboard after she spilled her training potty in the vehicle while he was parking. Bourgeois, who was sentenced to death in 2004, was making a delivery to a military base when he killed his daughter so he was tried in a federal court. His lawyers argued that he had a severe intellectual disability that should have prevented him from being executed. Brandon Bernard was executed in Indiana after last-minute clemency pleas were rejected by the US Supreme Court. Bernard, 40, was convicted of murder in 1999 when he was a teenager, and is the youngest offender to be executed by the federal government in nearly 70 years. line The inmates facing execution Lisa Montgomery strangled a pregnant woman in Missouri before cutting out and kidnapping the baby in 2004. She is scheduled for execution on 12 January. Her lawyers have said she experienced brain damage from beatings as a child and suffers from serious mental illness. She will be the first woman to face federal execution in the US since 1953. Cory Johnson was convicted for the murder of seven people, related to his involvement with the drug trade in Richmond, Virginia. Johnson's legal team has argued that he suffers from an intellectual disability, related to physical and emotional abuse he experienced as a child. His execution is scheduled for 14 January. Dustin John Higgs was convicted in the 1996 kidnapping and murder of three young women in the Washington, DC area. Higgs did not kill any of his victims, but instructed his co-defendant Willis Haynes to do so. Haynes has said in court documents that Higgs did not threaten him, or force him to shoot. Higgs is scheduled for execution on 15 January.

Back in 2018, Samsung unveiled The Wall, an impressive MicroLED TV system made up of several configurable modules which needed to be professionally installed, allowing for a sizeable wall-covering display of incredible visual fidelity. Now, Samsung has brought the next evolution of its MicroLED technology to market with a new streamlined and prefabricated 110-inch model that's available for pre-sale in South Korea starting today. Unlike The Wall, Samsung's new 110-inch MicroLED TV is already assembled right out of the box, meaning it no longer needs to be installed by professionals. Best TV 2020: amazing flatscreen TVs worth buying Best TV brand 2020: who to consider when buying a new television Best 120Hz 4K TVs: the best TVs for your Xbox Series X and PS5 According to Samsung, the new 110-inch model "uses micrometer-sized LED lights to eliminate the backlight and color filters utilized in conventional displays," further explaining that the technology is self-illuminating, allowing it to produce "light and color from its own pixel structures." Additionally, Samsung's new MicroLED TV offers a 4K resolution with 8 million pixels and a 99.9% screen-to-body ratio, and is capable of expressing "100% of the DCI and Adobe RGB color gamut," with the electronics giant claiming the display "accurately delivers wide color gamut images taken with high-end DSLR cameras." In terms of audio, the new MicroLED offers an "embedded Majestic Sound System" which is said to deliver "5.1 channel sound with no external speaker", along with immersive object tracking. While Samsung has yet to announce pricing for its new 110-inch MicroLED TV, you can expect it to be very expensive – Samsung's The Wall can cost anywhere between $100,000 and $300,000 depending on how many individual modules are purchased. As for the rest of the world, Samsung has announced that its 110-inch MicroLED TV will be available globally in the first quarter of 2021.

The Raspberry Pi continues to bring people together this year, this time through a festive display of interactive Christmas lights! This maker, known as Ryder, has created a Pi-controlled system of LEDs that anyone can change using a web browser. The major components in this project consist of a Raspberry Pi 3B+, and multiple WS2811 LED strings. The Pi runs a custom interface on a Flask server. Users interact with the web server interface, triggering Python scripts on the Pi, which direct the LEDs to change based on the user input in real-time. It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Every December, we see Raspberry Pi Christmas lighting projects appear on the web, but this year the crop has been bigger and better than ever before. If you haven’t set yours up yet, here are a few ideas, tutorials and displays to get you started. Let’s open with the Johnson Family’s Dubstep Christmas Show for a look at what can be achieved with a Raspberry Pi and an awful lot of festive elbow grease. We think this is the largest and most impressive Pi-based Christmas light show we’ve seen so far: let us know if you’ve seen bigger and better! You can read more about the Johnson’s setup (all controlled by a Pi) at their very detailed webpage about the project. Matt Johnson also has a behind the scenes video for you to goggle at. Frankly, the Johnson’s effort is an outlier in its size and complexity. But there are elements of a light show like this that you can make at home and use without scaring the neighbours. Andrew Oakley has kept his Raspberry Pi Christmas lighting setup compact: one LED matrix displayed in a window. For all that it lacks in size, its ability to play animations and the project’s low price make this a great option. Andrew has a really thorough tutorial and build diary (we love Andrew’s write-ups) available at his website, along with the animations he’s made and all the code you need to make your own. Lights are not just for Christmas. Here’s a giant animated menorah, built by Ben Forta and family for Hanukkah 2015. There’s a full description of how the animation was made in the video.

Mission Accomplished? This week sees Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's sixth season of content come to an end. And as the mission clock ticks down on the shooter's most recent Battle Pass, there is no word from publisher Activision or developer Treyarch of a Season 7, suggesting that the Modern Warfare DLC timeline might be going dark for the foreseeable future. Launching back in November 2019, Modern Warfare essentially rebooted the blockbuster Call of Duty spin-off franchise (a "spin-off" that ultimately proved to be the most po[CENSORED]r brand, no less). But since its launch, Call of Duty has gone all-in on its mega-po[CENSORED]r battle royale title, Warzone, a project so huge in scope and so po[CENSORED]r among the community, that it seems even the recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is fighting to stand against it. However, speaking of Cold War, the latest update to Call of Duty's '80s adventure has implemented a new "dashboard-style" title menu, from where the player can launch Cold War, Warzone, or Modern Warfare - provided that respective titles are installed. From this, we can ascertain that Modern Warfare remains a relevant, mainstream member of the current Call of Duty family, even if Activision are, indeed, done with creating new content for it. Ultimately, there are only so many hours and so much worktime allotted to a day. As such, it's understandable that the development team might be focusing on the two newest titles going forward. Call of Duty: Cold War will receive its first season of content next week, bringing new maps, operators, and weapons to the game. Now if you can just see to adding the Farah to the CW operator roster... well that'd be just peachy, if a tad anachronistic. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Season 6 battle pass has come to an end - and there's no sign of a Season 7. Infinity Ward's first-person shooter launched on 25th October 2019. Since then, it's seen the launch of free-to-play battle royale Warzone, Treyarch and Raven's Black Ops Cold War, and six seasons' worth of new content and battle passes. But it looks like the focus from Activision's point of view is now squarely on Warzone and Black Ops Cold War. Modern Warfare players noticed this morning that the game's current battle pass had expired with no replacement or playlist update from Infinity Ward. The federal execution of a death row inmate is set to go ahead on Thursday, the first of five before the end of Donald Trump's presidency. Kim Kardashian West is among those urging clemency for Brandon Bernard. Bernard, 40, was convicted of murder when aged 18 and would be the youngest offender executed by the federal government in nearly 70 years. If the five take place, Mr Trump will have overseen the most executions by a US president in more than a century. It would bring to 13 the total of federal executions since July. The executions break with an 130-year-old precedent of pausing executions amid a presidential transition. Joe Biden becomes president on 20 January. The Brandon Bernard case The 40-year-old is scheduled to begin the five executions, along with 56-year-old Alfred Bourgeois. They are both scheduled to be put to death at a penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana. Bernard was given the death penalty for his involvement in the murder of Todd and Stacie Bagley in June 1999. He was one of five teenagers accused of robbing the pair and forcing them into the back of their car in Texas. They were shot in the car by 19-year-old accomplice Christopher Vialva before Bernard set the car alight. Defence lawyers say both of the Bagleys probably died before the car was set on fire. An independent investigator hired by the defence said Stacie was "medically dead" before the fire. However, government testimony during the trial claimed that although Todd Bagley died instantly, Stacie had soot in her airway, signalling that she had died from smoke inhalation and not the gunshot wound. In Trump’s final days, a rush of federal executions US executes federal inmate for 1994 murder Bernard's lawyers claim he feared what would happen to him if he refused to follow the orders of Vialva, who was executed in September. Others involved in the incident were given prison sentences as they were under 18 and classed as juveniles. Bernard's lawyers argue that he should be given life in prison without parole as throughout his time in jail, he has maintained a good record and worked with outreach programmes to stop people from getting involved in crime. Who has advocated for him? The federal prosecutor who defended Bernard's death sentence has since called for Bernard to see out his sentence in prison. In an opinion piece published in the Indianapolis Star, Angela Moore wrote: "Having learned so much since 2000 about the maturation of the human brain and having seen Brandon grow into a humble, remorseful adult fully capable of living peacefully in prison, how can we say he is among that tiny group of offenders who must be put to death?" Five of the surviving nine jurors have called for Mr Trump to commute Bernard's death sentence. Tens of thousands of other people have urged the president to grant Bernard clemency, including senators Richard J Durbin and Cory Brooker. Kim Kardashian West has sent numerous tweets about Bernard's case to her followers, urging them to get behind the cause and raise awareness.

What is it? Roewe is the China-only sibling brand of SAIC-owned MG. In fact, the UK’s new MG 5 SW EV is a rebadged Roewe. The brand has had considerable success selling electric and plug-in hybrids to fleet users but SAIC is now looking to go more upmarket with an electric-only brand badged with just an R. The car is based on the Roewe i6/ei6, which hit the market in 2017 but has been available in only petrol and PHEV forms so far. It shouldn’t be mistaken for a mid-life update because it is largely a completely new car. In fact, R claims it is based on a dedicated EV platform, but the wheelbase length and width of the ER6 are exactly the same as the i6's. What's it like? First of all, there is that minimalistic new R logo on the front, back and key fob, although, curiously, the steering wheel and speakers still say Roewe. Whereas the ei6 has been an inconspicuous fleet car, the ER6 cuts a much sharper profile, with its steeply raked bonnet. As this is a fully electric car, there is no traditional grille, although the front spoiler still gets some fake air inlets. The front-end design and some aerodynamic alloy wheels help to reduce the car’s drag coefficient to an impressive 0.24. From the side and rear, the design is largely a carry-over from the base vehicle. Occupants get one of the best interiors to date from SAIC. It's a huge improvement over the i6's. Materials are of good perceived quality, with plenty of soft-touch plastics, and the grey, brushed silver and starry blue colour scheme is a definite break from the norm. There are also some nice detail touches, such as a strip light that illuminates on the roof when the vanity mirror cover is opened. Rising out of the high centre console and dominating the dashboard is the 14.3in curved infotainment screen. This, along with voice activation, controls nearly every function, right down to the sunshade and air conditioning. The apps on the system are of limited use, though. One even tells you what car you are driving and its colour. While the functions are mostly touchscreen activated, there are a few buttons at the base of the screen, but navigability could be greatly improved. The ER6’s most striking feature is the three square metres of glass making up the roof and the rear passengers get the full benefit of this as it slopes down to the boot. Head room is at a premium for anyone taller than six-foot as a result, and leg room is none too generous, either. Although the near-flat floor will be appreciated by the middle passenger, the lack of a headrest and the uncomfortable seating position makes that perch suitable for short journeys only. Boot space is sufficient to accommodate large cases. This is an electric car very much optimised for range rather than performance. Even though the acceleration figures will put those of most combustion-engined saloons to shame, this is no Tesla. The three driving modes – Eco, Comfort and Sport – have an easily discernible difference. Push the ER6 hard, though, even in Sport, and you leave it scrabbling for traction. Like most Chinese cars, the suspension set-up gravitates towards comfort. There are three levels of energy recovery, with the highest KERS allowing almost one-pedal driving. Regenerative braking settings are independent of the drive mode, too, unlike in many other EVs. Our mid-level-trim test car lacked the driver assist features, such as lane keeping assistance, of the range-topper. Despite being electrically adjustable, the lowest setting on the driver’s seat is already relatively high, meaning taller drivers might be pushed to get a comfortable position. One interesting feature is an augmented reality function on the instrument panel, which shows a video of the road ahead along with information such as navigation cues.

While Samsung has yet to officially reveal its upcoming Galaxy S21 family of flagship smartphones, there have been plenty of leaks and rumors on the upcoming flagships, and today we've seen what seem to be official teasers of the smartphones. Android Police has gotten a hold of three official-looking teaser videos, giving us our best look at the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus and Galaxy S21 Ultra to date. Although the leaked teasers don't show any of the phones in full, they do offer a very clear look at each handset's rear camera arrays and glimpses at their displays, confirming the designs seen in previously leaked renders and real-word photos. The Galaxy S21 may have a plastic back Gear wearables are on the way out Samsung Galaxy S21 Fan Edition: what we want to see The short Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus teasers show two seemingly identical handsets (which will almost certainly differ in size and battery capacity when finally released), as well as a gorgeous new two-tone color option that's reportedly dubbed Phantom Violet. Both handsets sport a flat display, a centered pinhole selfie camera and a rear triple camera array with an almost flat bezel. That two-tone color is the biggest news from this leak, and it's a bold design choice from the company but it looks premium in the short Galaxy S21 Plus teaser you can see below. There is a separate teaser for the Galaxy S20 that Android Police have provided, but we've decided not to include it here as the design looks identical to what you've seen above. Meanwhile, Samsung's design diverges somewhat with the Galaxy S21 Ultra. If this teaser is official, it suggests it will boast a curved display with centered pinhole selfie camera, alongside a quad camera setup on the rear. This teaser doesn't give us any clear idea of the spec to expect, but other reports suggest it'll include a 108MP primary sensor, a 10MP periscope telephoto lens, an additional 10MP telephoto lens and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor. Another supposed inclusion is a laser-autofocus sensor, which is said to replace the Galaxy S20 Ultra's ToF (time of flight) sensor. From what we can tell in this short clip, all of those elements seem to be there on the rear of the phone in this footage.
